Kevin and Sally get some bad news from the Building Society.
Ivy decides to take matters into her own hands when the factory
workers don't get paid enough, but can she persuade Mike to part

pretences, and Vera causes trouble for Connie. Kevin and Sally

Rita's decision to employ pensioner Harry Ashton as the
new paper boy at The Kabin causes problems for Mavis. Ivy takes
a dim view of Don's acquisition of some sports equipment.

Mavis has to make a decision about Harry's proposition,
but he's causing far more trouble amongst the younger generation
of newspaper deliverers! Vera advises Ivy about her relationship
with Don and Brian makes a decision about his links with Gail.
Thursday (2802, Wednesday 3 February 1988)
It's Sarah's first birthday, so the Tilsleys organise a
party for her. Brian has a question for Gail - but it's something
she doesn't want to hear. Bet has to remind Alec that they haven't
had their honeymoon.
Friday (2803, Monday 8 February 1988)
Brian's proposal makes Gail appraise the situation - does
she want things to change at all? Alec and Bet can't even agree
on where to go on honeymoon to, and Mavis gets a threatening visitor.

Gail confronts Alf about the reasons for Audrey flying
to Canada. Statham has some interesting news for Ken about The
Recorder and Gloria has an ultimatum to give to Mike.

With Audrey in Canada seeing the brother Gail never knew
she had, Gail decides to bring the wedding forward. Glora gives
Mike a hard time about the way he treats her, and Ken has big
plans for the future as the sole proprietor of The Recorder.

Mike decides to formalise his relationship with Gloria,
but how will Linda feel about it? Ken's plans for The Recorder
go badly wrong. Gail and Brian get married at the Registry Office,
but their night is spoiled. Linda goes to see Mike, but a struggle
begins.

Linda tells Mike that she's leaving Graham for him, and

Bet's startling revelation that she is pregnant causes
worries at the Rovers and gives Betty the opportunity to make
fun of Alec. Linda asks Gloria to warn Mike that she has left
Graham and that he may be in danger.
Wednesday (2811, Monday 7 March 1988)
The news quickly spreads that Mike has been badly beaten
up by Graham and his friends with varying reactions. Jack discovers
that Amy has been stealing bottles of stout, but how will Vera
react when she is told the truth about her mother? In the Rovers,
the Gilroy's are starting to look forward to the idea of the patter
of tiny feet, but when Bet starts to feel pain in her side, Alec
calls the doctor.

Ken faces troubles on the work front when Nick employs
an ally to work full-time in the office, while Vera confronts
Amy about her kleptomania. Who will be the first to break in this
mother-daughter battle of wills? The loss of the baby is a shock
to Bet and Alec, but is he just putting on a brave face?
Friday (2813, Monday 14 March 1988)
Ken gets some reassurance from Fiona about her working
in the office, and Shirley makes a decision to move out of her
mother's house. Bet is upset over the loss of the baby, but the
tragedy helps to bring here and the Gilroy's closer together.
Meanwhile Curly decides to ask Alf if he can rent the flat above
the shop, Sally gets an uncomfortable surprise from her sister
Gina.

tactics.

The suspicions grow that Alf might be a racist after he
offers the flat to Curly instead of Shirley. And the problems
continue for Sally when she is introduced to Gina's new boyfriend,
Billy, who is on probation - will he be a bad influence.
Wednesday (2816, Wednesday 23 March 1988)
Now that the Barlows are a two-car family, Deirdre considers
having driving lessons. Emily and Alf are at war over the dispute
about the flat, but Shirley comes up with a novel - if shocking
- answer to the dilemma.
Thursday (2817, Monday 28 March 1988)
Shirley's suggestion that she and Curly move into the flat
together pleases him - but how will Alf and Emily react? Billy
asks Brian for a job, but Kevin doesn't want him there because
that means Gina will want to continue to stay at Number 13. Alan
is getting bored with running the video library so he decides
to work fitting burglar alarms with Dave Craig.
Friday (2818, Wednesday 30 March 1988)
Alf makes it clear that, like Emily, he disapproves of
Curly and Shirley living 'in sin' together, but Curly decides
to get his double bed from his parents' house. Rita is finding
Alan's secretive nature difficult to cope with, and Ivy stars
to wonder what Audrey is really doing in Canada.

Martin and Gina spend another day together at Number 13,
but there's trouble in store when Billy comes round to see her.
Alan gets a surprise when he asks Dave if they can become partners
in the firm, Billy admits that he is banned from driving to Brian,
and Curly gets shocked when his parents come to visit - and meet
his new girlfriend for the first time.
Wednesday (2821, Monday 11 April 1988)
Even though Dave has turned him down for partnership, Alan
asks Rita to lend him £6,000, but she wants to know more
about the business. Shirley celebrates her birthday and tells
Curly that she's happy with him. Alf is missing Audrey and feels
that she doesn't love him.
Thursday (2822, Wednesday 13 April 1988)
Alf oversleeps after a heavy drinking session and fails
to open the shop on time. Alan spends the £6,000 on a new
car and Curly has to try to win over Shirley's mum. Rita cooks
Alf a mean and then his surprised that he has a secret of his
own to tell.
Friday (2823, Monday 18 April 1988)
Curly's mother writes him a letter disowning him because
he is living with a black girl, so he goes to see her in Crewe.
A bunch of roses arrives for Gloria, but who are they from and
what does he want? Rita and Alan argue over the car and Alf still
can't contact Audrey in Canada.

Alan's lies have caught up with him and Rita feels that
she cannot trust him anymore. Audrey returns home to find that
Alf isn't happy about her having gone to Canada and Gail demands
to know all about her half-brother. Meanwhile, Alec advertises
for a new cleaner for the Rovers.
Wednesday (2826, Wednesday 27 April 1988)
Audrey can't stop talking about Stephen and Alf loses his
temper. Bet forces Alec to apologise to Ken for barring him from
the pub. Meanwhile, Mike has to face up to his drink driving and
accept the sentence he receives.
Thursday (2827, Monday 2 May 1988)
Sandra Stubbs answers Alec's advertisement for a cleaner,
while Mike overhears Vera laughing about his conviction and gets
annoyed about the quality of some recent orders. Mike decides
someone will have to be sacked to set an example for the others
and Alan talks Rita into letting him use the Yard for his business.
Friday (2828, Wednesday 4 May 1988)
Mike makes an example of Vera, believing her to have set
him up when he was drinking and driving. Alan pesters Rita into
giving him £1,000 for equipment and offers Martin a job.
Ida, after much thought decides that she has a confession to make.

Ivy tells Mike that Vera is innocent, but can't tell him
that Ida told the police. Percy has some bad news from the Council
and Alf tells Audrey about his jealousy.
Tuesday (2830, Wednesday 11 May 1988)
Now that Ida has confessed to Mike, Vera asks for her old
job back, but still angry about the situation, Mike refuses. When
threatened with an industrial tribunal, he proves to Vera that
she hasn't got a leg to stand on by showing Vera, her discipline
file. Both Audrey and Alf get a shock when she gets a massive
credit card bill and his card is refused in a shop. Deirdre decides
to help Percy not that he is retired and having to move to a new
flat.
Wednesday (2831, Monday 16 May 1988)
Alan talks Alec into having a burglar alarm fitted at the
pub, while Don offers to decorate Ivy's house. Percy is increasingly
worried about having to move out of the Centre and decides to
make a dramatic stand.
Thursday (2832, Wednesday 18 May 1988)
With the new flat not going to be ready for two months,
Percy has decided to move in with Emily, but what will Emily think
of that? Alec gets a better quote for an alarm system than Alan's
and Don begins redecorating Number 5. Ivy tells Don that he has
helped her to live her life again and in return Don has a question
for her.
Friday (2833, Monday 23 May 1988)
Emily agrees to let Percy move in with her temporarily,
but has Percy misled her? Ivy is surprised that Brian doesn't
object to her acceptance of Don's proposal of marriage and Vera
if thrilled by the good news. Jason gets turned down when he applies
to have a paper round and is turned down.

Phyllis is jealous of Percy moving in with Emily and stops

is forced to sack one of the boys and decides to offer the paper
round to Jason. Ivy gets to meet Don's Mother and Daughter, but
is concerned whether they will get on or not.
Tuesday (2835, Wednesday 1 June 1988)
Don begins making wedding plans and wants to buy a ring
for Ivy, but can she bear to take off Bert's wedding band? Emily
discovers that Percy, her new lodger, is more of a handful then
she imagined. Mauves takes up Jason's cause as he is being harassed
by the sacked paperboy, Wayne.
Wednesday (2836, Monday 6 June 1988)
Despite the threats of violence from Wayne's mother, Mauves
continues to support Jason and wants to call in the police. Don
has a honeymoon surprise for Ivy and Jack persuades Vera to buy
him a new suit. Emily gets a shock when she discovers Percy doing
some of her more personal ironing.
Thursday (2837, Wednesday 8 June 1988)
The factory girls got to the Rovers for most of the afternoon
to celebrate Ivy's upcoming wedding. Mike gets angry when they
return late and Jack goes to collect his new suit. Ivy carries
on the afternoon's festivities and get merry at her hen party,
while Jack manages to escape Vera and join Don on his stag night.
Friday (2838, Monday 13 June 1988)
Jack awakes with a terrible hangover to discover that he
has somehow, lost his new suit overnight and it's the day of the
wedding. He has no choice but to wear his Vince St Clair outfit
to the wedding. Brian gives Ivy away, but Jack can't find the
ring and they have to use Bert's. Vera spots the 'thief' at the
reception, leading to more trouble for Jack.

strikes in the Rovers' cellar and there's bad for Ken.

Percy begins his new job as a school-crossing warden, with
uniform and lollipop, in high spirits. Fiona tells Ken how the
Clarion Group is in dire financial straits, and how Nick has disappeared.
Alan's decision to sack Martin is changed when Martin tells him
what he knows about Alan's relationship with Carole.
Wednesday (2841, Wednesday 22 June 1988)
The news that the Receivers must be called in worries Ken,
because of his financial interest, but is he really facing financial
ruin? Mike parks his Jaguar on the Street and Percy makes it his
personal duty to watch out for him driving while banned, but he's
in for a surprise. Sandra Stubbs' estranged husband Ronnie searches
for her.
Thursday (2842, Monday 27 June 1988)
Ronnie is on the trail of his estranged wife, Sandra, and
is threatening to follow her to find out where she is living.
Ken and Statham get some mixed news about the position of the
'The Recorder', and Vera offers her services as a driver to Mike.
Friday (2843, Wednesday 29 June 1988)
Ronnie has decided that he wants to make it up with Sandra
and he is sorry that he hit her, but will she want him back after
getting the black eye? Vera is getting all romantic with Jack,
but a mistimed kiss causes an accident. Ken and Fiona work together
to get 'The Recorder' published again.

that he is a changed man - will Sandra believe him.
Tuesday (2845, Wednesday 6 July 1988)
Mike tells Jack that he has a good case for compensation,
so he decides to sue Vera. Kevin tells her how much the repairs
will cost and she starts to think that everyone wants her money.
The independence of 'The Recorder' is confirmed by the Receiver.
Ronnie goes to beg Sandra to take him back.
Wednesday (2846, Monday 11 July 1988)
Jason runs for help to save Sandra from being beaten up
by Ronnie. Jack continues in his plans to sue Vera for compensation
and Ken makes Statham an offer he just can't refuse.
Thursday (2847, Wednesday 13 July 1988)
Emily hears that Percy's new flat is now ready for him
to move into, and is delighted, but what will Percy think? Sandra
applies to the courts to grant an injunction banning Ronnie from
seeing her after she had to spend the night in hospital. Fiona
pleads with Ken to modernise 'The Recorder'.
Friday (2848, Monday 18 July 1988)
Bet lends a helping hand and Deirdre feels that Ken is
spending too much money. Percy is finally moving into his new
flat on Parliament Street, but Emily feels worried about the move
when she goes to visit him. With Ivy and Vera going to the bingo,
Don persuades Jack to come to the casino - with Vera's housekeeping
money.

Ivy and Vera are not talking to one another over Vera's
accusation of Don leading Jack Astray. Shirley refuses to go to
dinner with Curly's parents and Alf plans a holiday in the Lake
District, only to receive some unwelcome news from Audrey

Alec is asked by Gus Ferris to provide an act to fill a
gap at the Old Bank Club, and comes up with an awful replacement.
Audrey is thrilled when Malcolm Reid flies in from Canada, but
how will Alf feel? Percy is feeling lonely and depressed in his
new neighbourhood.
Thursday (2852, Monday 1 August 1988)
Audrey neglects both Alf and the shop to spend time with
Malcolm, whom Ivy believes to be her brother-in-law. However,
Malcolm lets slip about Audrey's natural son, Stephen and Emily's
good nature gets the better of her when she realises how lonely
Percy is. Sending Vince St Clair to fill the gap at the Club pays
off for Alec.
Friday (2853, Wednesday 3 August 1988)
Ivy is angry that she has been lied to about Audrey's trip
to Canada and confronts Audrey. Don decides to organise a coach
trip to Blackpool and gets some generous help, while Percy moves
back in with Emily.

Because the coach to Blackpool was fully booked, Alf has
to make a trip on his own to try to find out what Audrey is up
to. Meanwhile, the coach party is full of romantic intentions
between Phyllis and Arnold Swift and Malcolm has a suggestion
for Audrey to take her away from her life of 'drudgery'
Wednesday (2856, Monday 15 August 1988)
Audrey's protests that she hasn't been unfaithful fall
on deaf ears - and Aurdrey has others' disapproval to face, too.
Much to Percy's surprise, Arnold and Phyllis find their own way
back to Weatherfield. Gloria and Sandra go out to a night-club,
where they have a bit of fun and Bet introduces a new member of
staff to the Rovers.
Thursday (2857, Wednesday 17 August 1988)
Alec finds that he can't cope with the new member of the
family at the pub, Rover the stray Alsatin, and does his best
to get rid of him. Audrey and Alf's relationship grows frostier,
but will her protestations convince him of her innocence?
Friday (2858, Monday 22 August 1988)
Curly has some work on his hands when Mrs Armitage leaves
her daughter Lucy with him. Bet gets great satisfaction from making
Alec feel uncomfortable around Rover the Alsatian and Mavis applies
for a new job.

While Rita is hurt about Mavis's decision to move on, Mavis
begins to doubt her own abilities. Curly annoys Shirley by taking
Lucy out to the fair for the whole day. And for one family, there's
joy and suspicion as a prodigal return to the Street.
Wednesday (2861, Wednesday 31 August 1988)
Mavis goes to her interview to find a highly embarrassing
situation with an old friend. Newly returned Terry Duckworth can't
believe that Curly has a girlfriend, let alone that he lives with
her and there's a panic for Shirley and Curly when he loses Lucy
Armitage at the fair.
Thursday (2862, Monday 5 September 1988)
Don annoys Brian by suggesting he did a bad job repairing
the car when it breaks down again. Mavis is horrified and humiliated
when she receives a letter from Derek saying she hasn't got the
job. Terry needs money desperately and is forced to see his gold
watch to Alec. When Don sees Terry he grabs him, demanding his
taxi fare. Terry swears he doesn't know what is going on.
Friday (2863, Wednesday 7 September 1988)
Terry gets annoyed when Kevin refuses to lend him money.
The sight of the Webster's happiness at being married sickens
him. Emily and Rita are stunned that Derek has proposed. Mavis
is delighted and revels in the euphoria of someone wanting her.
Brian tells Don he wouldn't botch his repair and to make up he
tells Don that he will knock 10% off the service bill.

Sally believes Kevin's explanation that Terry tricked a
girl into kissing him, telling her it was his Stag night. Terry
tells Sally he knows nothing about that and Kevin is annoyed that
Sally believes Terry and not him. Rita and Emily can't believe
Mavis has accepted Derek's proposal. They fear he'll jilt her
again and Emily takes it upon herself to sit Mavis down and tell
her she is mad.
Wednesday (2865, Wednesday 14 September 1988)
Since Curly needs to write a thesis on a working business,
Mike allows Curly to study the factory. Curly becomes frustrated
when Mike ignores his intelligent questions by saying he's in
the business to make money. Kevin guesses that Terry has put the
girl up to phoning Sally and decides to confront Terry and give
a little friendly advice. Terry gets his mate Dazz, to tell Sally
that Kevin should keep his hands off his girlfriend, which visibly
upsets Sally. When Sally confronts Kevin about the situation he
is oblivious to the goings on and Sally apologises for not believing
him.
Thursday (2866, Monday 19 September 1988)
Vera tells Sally and Brian that she feels sure Terry is
ashamed of what he did and asks them to forgive him. Curly writes
his report, which says Mike makes his girls work in terribly Victorian
conditions. When Shirley tells the girls about Curly's report
they all agree and set out to tackle Mike about their poor working
conditions. Gina turns up and asks Sally and Brian if she can
stay, because Billy is in prison and she has nowhere to go.
Friday (2867, Wednesday 21 September 1988)
Curly lets Mike read the report, but when Mike finds it
damaging and wrong he rips it up, to Curly's surprise. Derek assures
Mavis that he is doing the best he can to get his divorce finalised

Vera boasts to the girls that Mike is grooming Terry for
management. Alec is mugged on his way to the bank. He is hit on
the head and his briefcase is stolen, containing over £2,000.
Bet is stunned to hear Alec was banking so much money. Alec assures
her they are insured, but Bet is suspicious and accuses Alec of
fiddling the insurance, as she knows the pub didn't take £2,000
over the weekend.
Tuesday (2869, Wednesday 28 September 1988)
Emily is upset when Mike tells her he intends to sue Ken
for the slamming story he wrote about Mike running a sweat shop
and if that wasn't enough he plans to call Emily as a witness.
Sally takes Gina to the Magistrates Court and Gina is fined £100
and put on probation. Sally has to promise to look after her and
let her live with her at No. 13, which does not please Kevin.
Wednesday (2870, Monday 3 October 1988)
Cecil calls on Alec and suggests that if the Rovers is
taking so much money the rent should be increased. Alec gets fed
up with having to explain about his club money. After all of the
problems with the story about Mike, Ken prints a two-paragraph
apology to Mike. Sally pushes Gina to find work, but she prefers
to spend her time drinking with Martin rather than going to the
Job Centre.
Thursday (2871, Wednesday 5 October 1988)
The Police find Alec's briefcase and return it to him.
He takes great joy in showing Bet and Cecil his two paying in
books - one for the Rovers and one for his artists. Bet apologies
to him forever doubting his honesty. Deirdre calls on Mike at
his flat and pleads with him to drop the libel case. She tells
Mike that they could lose everything he sues them, but Mike tells
Deirdre that all he wants to do is teach Ken a lesson and doesn't
want to hurt her.
Friday (2872, Monday 10 October 1988)
Phyllis fears that if Gail brings a young kid to help with
sandwich round she'll be pushed out. Jack gets a cheque for £600
from Vera's insurance and promises Terry a bottle of whisky if
he keeps the news of his cheque from Vera. The problem with the
plan is that Jack doesn't have a bank account so he can't cash
the cheque and Alec refuses to cash it for him. Ken is horrified
when Mike tells him he is dropping the libel case as Deirdre talked
him out of it. Ken accuses Deirdre of making him look a fool and
suspects Deirdre flirted with Mike to win him round.

Vera demands half of Jack's compensation but Jack hides
the cheque and refuses to let her cash the cheque at her Building
Society. Vera and Jack have a row in the Rovers, telling everyone
the insurance claim was a fiddle. Jack realises his only chance
of cashing the cheque is to give it to Vera, so reluctantly he
agrees to give her half the money. Joanne tells Jenny she's seen
Alan hanging around with Carole Burns and has seen them kiss.
Tuesday (2874, Monday 17 October 1988)
When Jenny accuses Martin of covering for Alan, Rita quizzes
Jenny as to why she was rowing with Alan, but Jenny tells her
it was nothing. Gail give Gina an old butcher's bike to do her
deliveries on, but Gina doesn't know how to ride a bike but agrees
to have a go. Derek tells Mavis he expects her to make the reception
at her flat. However, Mavis doesn't like the idea and is grateful
when Emily tells them she'll have the reception at No. 3.
Wednesday (2875, Wednesday 19 October 1988)
Jenny begs Rita to forget what she said. She tells her
she wants to keep them all together as a family. Rita promises
she won't throw Alan out so Jenny tells her that Alan's been seeing
a woman in Oakwood Road. Rita takes matter into her own hands
and goes through Alan's files to find out who lives on Oakwood
Road. Gina has had enough of Phyllis getting at her and decides
that she is going to tell Gail that they can't work together.
Audrey tells Phyllis that faced with a choice, Gail will keep
Gina on. Phyllis tries to make up with Gina and begs her not to
talk to Gail. She promises things will be better and Gina agrees
to keep quiet.
Thursday (2876, Monday 24 October 1988)
Jenny blames Rita for driving Alan out of the house and
into the arms of Carole. Alan tells Jenny he tried as hard as
he could to make a success of his relationship with Rita but now
it's over. Percy is annoyed when Emily is disturbed at night by
Don coming home late at night in his taxi, while Mavis and Derek
decide on a honeymoon in Paris.
Friday (2877, Wednesday 26 October 1988)
When Percy paints 'No Parking' outside No. 3, someone changes
it so it reads 'nosy parker'. Emily orders him to get all the
paint off the pavement, but he refuses to believe anyone thinks
him a nosy parker, believing it was meant for Emily. Rita tells
Mavis that Alan has left her and Jenny tells Alan that if he makes
her choose between him or Rita, she'll choose Rita.

Jack has some fun telling Arnold that Phyllis is two-timing
him with Percy. Arnold tells Phyllis he knows she's seeing Percy
and accuses her of using him to make Percy jealous. Derek doesn't
know who to have as a best man now Alan has left Rita. Mavis hopes
the wedding will bring Alan and Rita back together. Terry decides
he is going to flirt with Gina, thinking that she is a sure thing.
Tuesday (2879, Wednesday 2 November 1988)
Emily goes with Mavis to look for her wedding outfit, but
Mavis is having a hard time making her mind up about what to wear.
Alan tries to get public sympathy by saying Rita is after all
his money, but as he is looking for somewhere to live, he tells
Carole he doesn't want her being dragged into everything. Phyllis
assures Arnold that she is not using him and finally he agrees
to take her out. Emily is worried that Derek is having second
thoughts about marrying Mavis, so she enlists Percy to keep an
eye on him.
Wednesday (2880, Monday 7 November 1988)
Mavis is upset when the paperboys joke about he possibility
of Derek jilting her again. Alma returns to Weatherfield and hears
Gail has started a sandwich round. She tells Gail she can't be
doing so much business in the café if she's encouraging
people to stay at work to eat. The lads play a joke on Derek at
his Stag Night, phoning the Rovers as Victor, saying Mavis has
run off with him. Derek guesses it's a joke, saying he knows Mavis
loves him.
Thursday (2881, Wednesday 9 November 1988)
Mavis fears that she isn't worldly enough for Derek, and
is frightened by the knowledge that things are going to change.
Alma tells Gail to stop the sandwich deliveries, telling her the
café is the business. Gail is annoyed which causes Alma
to threaten to sack her. Rita takes Mavis to the Registry Office,
while Percy brings Derek and Emily attends the service. After
Mavis and Derek are married, they leave for Paris on their honeymoon.
Friday (2882, Monday 14 November 1988)
Gail is annoyed that she has to stop the sandwich round.
She feels frustrated working under Alma and tells her she wants
to run the round down slowly to let the customers find someone
else but Alma wants it stopped immediately. After selling Vera's
microwave, Jack tries everything to get the money, even asking
Derek for it at his wedding. Vera is furious that Jack hasn't
got any money for the microwave and refuses to cook him any food
until he sorts it out.

Brian urges Gail not give up her job, as they can't afford
to set her up in business. Sandra falls in love with Pet Shaw,
the man she met in the supermarket and wants to see more of him.
Jack sneaks into the Wilton's flat and steals the microwave, behind
Rita's back. Mike plans a trip to London. He tells Terry he doesn't
want him touching the Jag whilst he's away. However, Terry tells
Kathy Pritchard the Jag is his and arranges to take her out. Gail
tells Alma she's thinking of leaving the café. Alma considers
selling up is she leaves, as she doesn't want to look after the
café alone.
Tuesday (2884, Monday 21 November 1988)
Sandra has to attend a parent/teacher evening so has to
break her date with Pete. She is pleased when he arranges to see
her afterwards, but things go on longer than expected and she
has to stand him up. Gloria comes to the rescue and looks after
him at the Rovers and he gives her a lift home afterwards. Terry
takes Kathy on a night out - in the Jag. Kathy entertains Terry
at her flat and he is horrified to find the worlds 'Stay Away
From My Wife' spray painted across the Jag.
Wednesday (2885, Wednesday 23 November 1988)
Terry tries to get the graffiti off the Jag but it needs
a new spray job. When Mike returns, Terry shows him the car, letting
him believe the graffiti is a warning for him. Mike is horrified
and gets it re-sprayed quickly. When Rita doesn't hear from Alan
about the Yard, she decides to see her solicitor. Gloria feels
awful as she's fallen for Pete. He tells her he really likes her
and wants to see more of her. Sandra calls on Gloria whilst Pete's
in her flat and Gloria manages to get rid of her without making
Sandra suspicious and then has an attack of guilt.
Thursday (2886, Monday 28 November 1988)
Jenny tells Rita that Alan is moving out of their lives
and begs Rita to do something to stop him. Rita calls on Alan
and tells him he is hurting Jenny by staying away. Alan feels
he has nothing to offer Jenny and tells Rita she has to stop hiding
behind the trauma of widowhood, saying she was a sexual iceberg
and had nothing in common with him. Terry advises Mike to forget
about the graffiti, but Mike discovers that his girlfriend Jenny's
husband is definitely in Kuwait. Mike tells Terry he's worried
about security, the married man might turn up and wreck the place.
He talks Terry into spending the night in the factory to guard
it.
Friday (2887, Wednesday 30 November 1988)
Gloria tells Sandra that she's been seeing Pete and they
are in love. Sandra refuses to let her come between them, she'll
forgive Pete as she loves him, but Gloria tells her it wasn't
planned. Sandra calls Gloria a smug tart and throws a pint over
her. Gloria breaks down as Jack holds Sandra back from attacking
her. Rita feels she humiliated herself, begging with Alan. The
bank manager refuses to give Alan a loan to buy new premises,
so Alan asks Carole if he can move in with her, as he knows he'd
get a loan with her help.

Terry tells Vera he's resigned from the factory. Vera can't
believe it and demands to know why Terry has left. Mike tells
her he's been fired and Vera feels all the girls are talking about
her family. Rita is surprised that Alan is back but is too frightened
to ask him why in case he leaves again. Alan tells Carole that
he still wants to see her even though he's returned to Rita and
she accuses him of being after Rita's money but he says it's for
Jenny's sake.
Tuesday (2889, Wednesday 7 December 1988)
Terry tells Vera that there is nothing left for him in
Weatherfield. Vera begs him to stay for Christmas, but Terry sells
all of his jewellery and heads for Bournemouth. Distraught by
Terry's decision Vera blames Mike for Terry's departure. Alan
tells Rita he plans to give up the Yard and raise the finances
for a shop. He assures her he won't be asking her for the money.
Alec doesn't know how to tell Bet that Gloria has left, so when
he phones the Health farm they have been staying at, he is shocked
to find that Bet and Stella have already out after only a week.
Wednesday (2890, Monday 12 December 1988)
Alec learns from Paul Rigby that Bet and Stella are living
it up in a hotel, as they couldn't stand the regime at the health
farm. When Bet returns to the Rovers she keeps telling Alec and
everyone what a wonderful time she had at the health club. Bet
starts to become uncomfortable when Alex keeps going on about
her looking healthy. Ivy is annoyed when Audrey doesn't invite
the Brennans for Christmas dinner
Thursday (2891, Wednesday 14 December 1988)
Bet finds out from Stella that Alec knows they booked out
form the Health Farm. She stuns Alec by telling him she's booked
him into the Health Farm, as he obviously is so interested in
it. Ivy demands to know from Alf where they stand over Christmas.
Friday (2892, Monday 19 December 1988)
Ivy is stunned when Audrey tells her she and Alf are going
to a hotel for Christmas. Gail invites the Brennans to join them
for the day. Ivy is please as she won't have to have Don's mother.
Deirdre is annoyed when a mentally disturbed Roscoe keeps phoning
her up, but Roscoe calls at No. 1 whilst Deirdre is out and Tracy
decides to let him only to be put out by his strange behaviour.

Alec is annoyed that none of the staff will work on Christmas
Day. Bet refuses to serve as she's got to cook the dinner, so
he tells her they'll do without dinner. Deirdre buys presents
for Roscoe's children and Ken accuses her of being a soft touch.
Deirdre takes the presents round to Roscoe's only to find his
wife has left and taken the children with her.
Tuesday (2894, Sunday 25 December 1988)
Ken reports Deirdre missing to the police. They suspect
she's run off with another man. Roscoe sits against the door,
refusing to let Deirdre out despite her pleas, finally at 4am
having had enough, Deirdre starts to shout at him, telling him
she's working class as well. She tells him she's sick of hearing
about what he wants and tells him he lives in luxury compared
to other people. Deirdre shoves the TV at Roscoe and escapes the
flat and runs all the way home.
Wednesday (2895, Monday 26 December 1988)
Tracy has nightmares about Deirdre disappearing. She tails
Deirdre everywhere, fearing she'll go again. Ken wants Roscoe
caught as he feels he could have raped Deirdre, but Deirdre just
wants to forget all about it. Finally Deirdre breaks down and
tells Bet she really feared she was going to be raped. She felt
vulnerable and frightened. Bet tells her she mustn't be frightened
anymore.
Thursday (2896, Wednesday 28 December 1988)
Social Services tell Deirdre her interference in the Roscoe
case has made extra work. They accuse her of trying to make a
name for herself on the Council. Deirdre is horrified to her that
Roscoe assaulted his father-in-law and is in police custody. Mike
sets up another card school and so Mike, Don, Jack and Alan play
cards. Alan and Jack step out of the game when big money is laid
down as stakes.
Friday (2897, Monday 2 January 1989)
Don doesn't know how to tell Ivy he's lost the cab, but
Ivy realises something is going on with Don and Mike and Don is
forced to tell her about the poker game and Mike having give him
a week to repay the £1000. Mavis gets it into her head that
it is time for her and Derek to find a house of their own and
decides to come clean to Derek.
