KINDLE... JULY 14 2013 Term’s ended and campus life is winding down but Leanne still thinks it’s a good idea to host a student night at the Bistro. Inexplicably, it’s packed out with extras posing as students, who in real life are already on the train home to mother with a suitcase full of dirty washing, only some of it their own. David rings the cops and tells them there’s drug dealing going on at the Bistro student night and the Bistro, as they say in common parlance around the parish, gets busted. Well, there’s a ticking off from the cops after they look for and find no drugs, but the story does get splashed all over the front of the Wethy Gazette by a hack with nothing better to do. Katy, the pretty plastic looking one with the long and shiny hair, finds out that Ryan’s been cheating on her with some woman in town so she dumps him. At the same time Chesney dumps Sinead and Katy’s straight round to see Chesney and there’s a heart to heart on the sofa. I did a little cheer when Chesney tells Katy to leave and no, he most certainly Will Never forgive her. I’m team Chesney, me. And I do hope that’s not the last we’ll see of Sinead and we might even see her mother (would she be Beth’s sister?) and her new fella, Omar from the fridge shop. Paul the fireman is stressed. He’s had a formal complaint made against him at work after he told off a couple of kids for dialing in hoax emergency calls. So stressed is he that he tells Steve in the pub over a game of darts to “play the white man”. It’s a racial slur that’s not been heard in many years, but a racial slur all the same. Lloyd overhears, tackles Paul about it, calls him a racist and demands an apology. But it’s an apology which Paul refuses to give and he can’t understand why everyone now hates him – and he wasn’t even likeable before. Eileen tells Paul straight: “I am ashamed and embarrassed. Lloyd did nothing wrong. You did!” And even Jason chips in with something intelligent, for once, telling Paul: “I don’t think you’re a racist, I think you’re an idiot”. Best line of the week goes to Sean when Leanne pops into the pub wondering if her mother is about. (Thankfully for this fan, St Ella has been nowhere to be seen for some time). Sean’s reply to Leanne to explain St Ella’s absence, with a nod to the back room: “She’s got the mobile waxer in and she’s asked not to be disturbed.” There’s also been some excellent comedy this week especially with Steve supergluing his hands together when he tried to fix the head back on to Amy’s doll. Then he goes and puts a wad of cash on a horse called Fizzy Lizzy in the bookies, because “It reminds me of me mother”. Well, the old nag loses the race and Steve loses his cash, which is perhaps not what he meant. And finally this week, Ken’s absence was explained away saying that he had to make an emergency trip to Canada to see grandson Adam who’s had an accident. Apparently Adam’s got no other family but Ken. I’m enjoying Deirdre more without Ken and am looking forward to more while he’s away. And that's just about that for this week. Remember, you can
