Weekly updates with pictures on the Coronation Street Blog

2011 - October 10

It's Eileen Grimshaw's 50th birthday this week and she's got a face like a wet weekend in Weatherfield. In serious need of cheering up at getting old, she registers with an online dating agency but only after Rosie has photoshopped Eileen's picture so she looks all sleek and wrinkle free and her face resembles a new salad potato.  Anyway, Eileen doesn't get a date from the internet but she does end up having dinner in the Bistro with the fireman who comes to rescue her when she gets her head stuck in the railings on the roof of Underworld.  What was she doing up there in the first place? I hear you ask, well, I'll tell you seeing as though you asked so politely. The factory girls had put up a huge banner announcing to the world that it was Eileen's big Five-O. Horrified to see it, Eileen went up there and tried to take it down and got her head stuck in the process. But at least she did get to meet a man on her big day which is pretty much what she wanted.  Gail's jealous as sin on finding out nemesis Eileen has managed to bag a man: Been hanging around outside the one o'clock club, have you?

Over at Weatherfield General there's a bombshell dropped when the ultrasound confirms two heartbeats - it's twins for Tracy and Steve! She's not sure she can cope with two more babies as well as Amy and in what appeared to be a genuine plea to Steve, Tracy tells him she's going to have an abortion, she can't cope with being a single parent to three kids. Steve does the right thing and tells her he'll stick by her but it's not enough for our Tracy, she always wants more, and this time she gets it when Steve agrees to be her fella and they are now officially an item. I'd love to see these two get wed in the nastiest, cheesiest McBar Corrie wedding that's ever been seen.  In the church, Steve's mum Liz can seethe at her son's side. Deirdre can wear a mad fascinator, little Amy can be bridesmaid and Ken can fall asleep.   Now that Tracy and Steve are together, she tries and fails to lord it over Stella in the pub.  I've still not warmed to Stella at all, not one little bit, and I've tried really hard, really I have. But if there was one way that Corrie could get us fans to like Stella, it'd be to have her clamp down, and hard, on toxic Tracy-luv, ?cos someone has got to.
Carla's still staying at Maria's flat and gets a visit from Stella who shares news with her that she too was raped. She gives Carla some wise advice, to get back on her life, the sooner the better. Fired up after their talk, Carla swans back into work only to find Frank's evil mum acting as his proxy for his 40% share in Underworld now that Frank's been released out on bail. "'ll be watching you, ladeh!" I think (hoped) she told Carla.
At Lloyd and Cheryl's, Chris gets some good news from the hospital although needs another scan to confirm if he's getting better or not. Does he share this good news? No he does not, in fact he pretends he's getting worse so that Cheryl will feel sorry for him and he can get back with her. His evil plan looks like it just might work too. What a nasty piece of work he is. Wrong move of the week though, Corrie when Lloyd and Cheryl were sharing a tender moment on their sofa in the house, the soundtrack was all wrong. There is no way in high heaven that Lloyd would ever listen to Simply Red, not in a million years.
Over at the Barlow's, it's Ken's 72nd birthday and Deirdre's present is a hand-made pottery gift where Ken can put his nuts. They're peanut bowls! she shrieks in delight as she dances around the living room to Hooked on Classics in a wonderful little scene.
And that's just about that for this week.
This week's writers were Peter Whalley, Chris Fewtrell, Jonathan Harvey and Ellen Taylor. Find out more about the Coronation Street writing team at: http://coronationstreetupdates.blogspot.com/2008/11/exclusive-all-current-corrie-writers.html
