January

After spending New Year together, Liz and Jim decide that they will slowly reconcile themselves, but are overtaken by events when Richard Willmore finds Jim helping out at the Queens and issues an ultimatum - decide between Jim or the pub. To Jim's surprise and delight she chooses her husband; Liz and Steve move back into No11. Later, Ken Barlow advises Liz that she should be entitled to compensation from the Brewery.

Using Des Barnes as in intermediary, the Duckworths visit Tommy's grandparents The Hortens in Blackpool and agree that they can see him at the holidays. Alf Roberts is suffering from gout and finds it difficult running the Corner Shop; he turns down the offer of becoming Mayor due to his pressures, but Audrey, who fancies herself as Mayoress, makes him reconsider. They decide to sell the shop. Don Brennan stays with Ivy - but in separate beds; he also tries to apologize to Denise, but only upsets her more. Tanya Pooley moves into the flat above Jim's Cafe.

Curly Watts receives a redundancy list from head office - including Maureen's name. Reg Holdsworth accuses Curly of adding her name out of spite, and when faced with Regional Manager Mrs Rogers he threatens to resign if her redundancy goes ahead. To Reg's horror she accepts his resignation and still makes Maureen redundant. Curly is staggered to learn the new Area Manager is Elaine Fenwick! After a little persuasion by Audrey, Reg agrees to buy the Corner Shop from the Roberts' with his redundancy pay.

Reg doesn't invite Curly to his and Maureen's wedding - Maureen warns that this will only fuel gossip. Eventually Curly turns up at Reg's solitary stag night, where they make amends and Curly agrees to be Best Man. The Holdsworth's marriage goes ahead, but at the reception at the Belstaff Hotel Reg argues with Maureen's brother-in-law Clive over who should care for Maud, Maureen's mother. Maud overhears the row with neither wanting to care for her and quietly and sadly wheels herself away from the hotel. Maureen is furious with Reg and refuses to leave for her Parisian honeymoon until her mother is found, by which time they miss their flight. They later make up and Reg persuades Martin Platt to watch over Maud whilst they embark on a belated honeymoon in the Lake District.

Bet Gilroy is disappointed when Vicky moves to her Grandad's in Southampton to get away from Steve McDonald, but her life brightens up when she enjoys a night out with trucker Charlie Whelan, who later accompanies her to the Licensed Viticulers Ball - stripping off his overalls in the middle of the Rovers to reveal his dinner suit underneath.

Despite being pushed around by Mike Baldwin, Steve McDonald continues to work at the Print Shop. Mike soon finds out why, when Steve offers a customer a 'special' price on T-shirts, with 15% going directly into Steve's pocket. Steve calls at a flat to collect his money, only to find it's actually Mike's and he sacks Steve on the spot.

Kevin is stunned when he discovers his £800 fine has been paid. Steve McDonald hadn't paid it, and Sally's suspicions turn to Joe Broughton. Sally confesses the whole story to Kevin, who thumps Joe next time he comes to the house. Sally tells Joe never to come back. Kevin is amazed when he finally finds that the fine has been paid by Mike Baldwin's wife, Alma. Kevin agrees to pay Mike back at £100 a month.

The Baldwin's are having their own troubles: Mike is finding it hard to find the money to support his son Mark, especially when he agrees to pay for his school skiing trip. Eventually Alma packs her bags,fearing Mike was more interested in Mark. Mike agrees to see Mark less, particularly when Mark says he feels suffocated by Mike's generosity.

Emily collects for a church charity auction, and the Websters give her a watercolour given to them as a wedding present by Percy Sugden. The picture is bought by Denise Osbourne, who shows it off in the Rovers - where it is recognised by Percy - who is most upset. Kevin explains the situation to Denise and they finally agree to sell the painting and split the proceeds.

February

Although she consults a solicitor, Liz McDonald feels claiming against the brewery will revive too many bad feelings. Unbeknown to Liz, Ken Barlow goes to the brewery and she is offered £2,000 compensation; Richard Willmore is sacked.

Maud Grimes is distressed at the thought of living with Reg Holdsworth and fears he wants to put her into an old folk's home. Reg and Maureen decide to sell both their properties and move to one better suited to Maud's needs - which turns out to be the house Rita and Ted Sullivan lived in. But although she paid the mortgage, Maureen's house is still owned by Maud, and when an offer is made on her home, Maud secures her future by signing a lease arrangement with Weatherfield Finance. In an attempt to stand up to her mother, Maureen moves in the flat at No12 with Reg. Meanwhile, Reg and Maureen take over the Corner Shop and Reg swaps his Mini for a van.

Raquel Wolstenhulme is offered a modeling session and as a result is asked to model for the Brewery's 1995 calender. At this session she meets motorbike racer Erik Mikaelson, who takes her out afterwards. Des Barnes becomes jealous seeing Raquel out with another man, asks her to break her date, and promises never to use her again. Raquel hopes that Des will ask her to move back in with him.

Alma Baldwin lets the electricity meter reader in the Cafe flat and is surprised to find it isn't lived in; she wonders if Tanya Pooley is on the game! When she finds that Alma has been in the flat, Tanya demands her privacy. Later in the month, Tanya's father dumps all her belongings in the Rovers, calling her a slut after finding that she is having an affair with a married man with two children. She moves into the shop flat, and is alarmed when her lover - Des' employer - Alex Christie turns up at the Rovers. As Alex can't see Tanya often he promises to take her on a foreign holiday.

Mike Baldwin has trouble finding a replacement for Steve McDonald in the Print Shop, and decides to sell the lease. Steve offers to buy it but Mike refuses to sell it to him on principle - he does however agree to rent it to him for £100 a week plus overheads. Mike is also still having money troubles, and can't afford to pay Mark's school fees at Oakhill. The headmaster turns down Mike's request for a scholarship, but Mike is determined Mark continues to study there.

Derek arranges a day trip to London to brighten up Mavis' life - but she is surprised to learn that another four people are coming to ensure Derek gets a free seat! Emily, Ken, Alf and Audrey accompany them to London - though things are a little stained between Mavis and Derek after Des sends Derek an anonymous Valentine's card, much to Mavis's annoyance. On the way home, Derek gets left at a motorway service station - but Mavis doesn't notice until they get home. Derek finally arrives home at 5am after being given a lift by traveling salesman - Norris Cole. Consequently, Derek falls asleep at work - and the school is broken into; £3,000 of equipment goes missing.and Derek is suspended pending a Governors' hearing.

Charlie takes Bet to a Country & Western club and enters her in a Dolly Parton look-alike contest. She is not amused and finishes with him at the end of the night. By the end of the week she sees the funny side and patches things up. Bet is also cheered by the return of Vicky, who conspicuously ignores Steve McDonald and talks of her new boyfriend, Leo.

Rev Bernard Morton comes back from retreat and tells Emily he is going to give up the church as he has lost his faith. Emily supports his decision and the Bishop later accepts his resignation. Percy Sugden feels it's his duty to warn Emily that Bernard may wish to stay at No3.

Ken Barlow has his hair cut at the salon, provoking speculation between Denise and Fiona about Ken's age. Fiona starts questioning customers - Ken tells her to mind her own business, and Denise later apologises, complimenting him that he looks good for his age. Flattered by this, Ken asks her out - and she agrees. She is shocked when he takes her to an over 60's Club - but sees the joke, and later tells Ken her life story when they go to a pub.

March

Maureen Holdsworth is still fighting with her mother Maud Grimes, and she panics when she can't find Maud and calls the police - but Maud's just gone to Blackpool for the day with Percy Sugden and Martin Platt. Percy accuses Maureen of abandoning Maud, and her takes her under his wing, cooking dinner for her. After she suffers a break-in, Maureen moves back in with her mother, straining her marriage to Reg, who reluctantly agrees to move in with them. Maud mistakenly takes Percy's praises of her as a marriage proposal, much to Reg's delight.

Denise and Ken's friendship blossoms as they cook each other meals, but Denise cools when people consider them an 'item'. Ken also has problems with a leaking tap in his flat, and has to resort to threatening to withhold his rent to get Reg to repair it.

Vera Duckworth is annoyed when Curly Watts turns her down for a Bettabuy's job, reminding her of the shoplifting incident. He later catches 10 year-old Jamie Armstrong shoplifting. His mother, Tricia, pleads for leniency - and ends up going out with Curly ! He pays Jack Duckworth £10 to babysit, who gets thumped by Carl Armstrong mistaking him for Tricia's new boyfriend. After Carl turns up at Bettabuy, Curly dumps her.

Bernard Morton invites Emily Bishop on a walking holiday in the Dales. She agrees after some thought; they book separate but adjoining rooms. Bernard assures her he won't take advantage of her ! At the end of the month Bernard confesses his love for Emily, and she admits she feels the same. They agree to marry.

Hard up Mike Baldwin sends Steve McDonald a rates bill for £1200.

Des Barnes finally gives Raquel Wolstenhulme a key to No6, and they throw a party. Meanwhile Alex Christie cancels a date with Tanya Pooley, who complains their relationship is no longer special. Alex promises a weekend in Amsterdam as compensation - which he also cancels at the last minute because his wife needs him. Raquel lands a modeling contract, which involves an overnight stay in Birmingham. Des intends to stay in, but Tanya, who has again been stood up by Alex, encourages him to come out for a drink. They flirt with each other in the Rovers and Tanya invites him to "fly nearer the flame". He brings a takeaway to her flat, and intends to leave - but doesn't. Next morning Des confesses that he's attracted to Tanya, but doesn't want to hurt Raquel. Tanya tells Des about Alex, and threatens to get Des sacked if Alex ever finds out. When Alex has to go to Newcastle on business, Tanya suggests Des goes instead so they will have less chance of seeing each other.

Rita Sullivan notes Kevin Websters's honesty when he finds a £10 note in a car he's repairing. She realises finances are difficult as they haven't paid their paper bill. When Rita chats with Sally, she breaks down and admits she's pregnant and is convinced Kevin will be mad at her. When Sally finally picks up courage to tell Kevin he walks out, and refuses to talk about it, but after speaking with Martin Platt, Kevin apologises and tells Sally he is happy. Rita takes Sally on at the Kabin to work Sunday mornings, and is touched when they invite her for Sunday dinner. They are stunned when Rita offers them £5,000 as a token of friendship, and after some thought accept the money.

Derek Wilton, on suspension, starts to redecorate No4. The school governors consider his case,and decide to reinstate him, but are amused at a letter of defence sent by Mavis. Derek feels humiliated and resigns, telling Mavis he wish he'd never married her. She retaliates by declaring he is wallowing in self pity. Unexpectedly, Norris Cole turns up - he has acted on "Dirk's" advice, left his wife and has come to stay with the Wiltons ! Norris explains EnviroSphere's pyramid selling to Derek, who attends a sales meeting and falls for the sales patter. He pays £2,000 to start up. Mavis tries not to be sceptical when Derek teaches selling to Norris, but is still surprised when Rita buys a product. Derek is annoyed to find that Norris has already tried to sell to the rest of the street, but they agree to work together in future. They talk Mavis into letting them see the newspaper order books to work out the wealthier residents until they are thrown out by Rita. By the end of the month, Norris is flourishing whilst Derek is floundering. Norris insists that Derek buys his old car - he is now doing so well he can buy a new one. Mavis insists she wants to stop sharing her house with a stranger.

Sarah Louise Platt starts with a tummy ache, and within a couple of days is rushed into intensive care with a ruptured appendix; Martin works on that ward and complains of understaffing; Gail befriends the mother of another sick girl, Mrs Baker, and after Sarah Louise comes home, Martin keeps her updated. However, Mandy is very ill and dies a few days later. Both Martin and Gail are very upset and realise that it could have been their daughter. They send a wreath to Mandy's mother.

April

A very upset Mrs Baker calls on Gail Platt and passes on Mandy's toys for Sarah Louise. Because Martin appears unaffected by Mandy's death, Gail accuses him of being cold-hearted. Mrs Baker tells Gail she blames the hospital for Mandy's death and demands an inquiry; Gail backs her up, saying there weren't enough staff on the ward. Martin later admits to Gail that as the ward was understaffed, Mandy didn't receive the best possible treatment, but then worries that Gail might say something that jeopardises his nursing career.

Ken Barlow turns down an offer from Reg Holdsworth to buy the shop flat, but later agrees to vacate the flat - if the price is right. He takes Denise Osbourne for a walk in the country, and assures her that he and Deirdre are just good friends now. They both realise they don't have to get back and book into a country hotel for the night. Afterwards he wants to take their relationship further, but Denise warns him not to take her for granted. After a meal at the Roberts' Ken spends the night at Denise's flat. Ken then takes her to a barn dance at the school, but Denise is upset when she finds Don Brennan is the taxi driver, and she goes home alone at the end of the evening. Ken tries to phone her but she refuses to answer, and accuses Don of pestering her again. Afterwards she is very cool towards Ken, who suspects she is seeing someone else, but they do go out again - which upsets Don.

Percy Sugden tries to set Maud Grimes straight about his 'proposal' but as they chat about it, Percy realises they do care for each other, and he formally proposes to her. A potential buyer appears for the No12 flat but Maureen Holdsworth refuses to move until Maud has married Percy. Reg and Maureen are stunned when Maud reveals she still owns the house and hasn't sold it to the finance company. Fearing Percy might become the main beneficiary, Reg furtively hunts for Maud's will, but only finds the radio that was supposedly stolen! Reg learns that marriage will invalidate all previous wills, but Maud eventually assures Maureen that she won't be forgotten.

Percy also tells Bernard Morton about Emily Bishop's nervous breakdown. He gets upset that Emily hasn't told him herself. Bernard confesses that his mother was mentally ill for many years, that he can't face the situation again and calls off the marriage. Emily is heartbroken and becomes depressed. When Percy brags that his budgie Randy is 18 years old, Emily snaps and admits Randy died six years ago and she secretly replaced him with another bird. Percy accuses Emily of upsetting his emotions. Emily seeks refuge with Rita Sullivan, confessing she didn't want to see old age alone, and how she really loved Bernard. Percy postpones his marriage to Maud until Emily can get over Bernard. Emily invites the Wiltons to tea, but serves up frozen peas. She breaks down and confesses to being annoyed and upset. She feels foolish for thinking anyone could ever love her. Derek spends time comforting her.

Mavis Wilton puts her foot down and asks Norris Cole to leave. Derek buys Norris' old car, and organises a birthday party for Mavis to patch things up. The exhaust falls off Derek's new car. Lots of people turn up for Mavis' party, but Derek rather spoils it all by trying to sell EnviroSphere to the guests, who all make excuses and leave. Fiona Middleton seems genuinely interested in the products and environmental issues, so Derek offers her a sales job, but when that involves paying £2,000, Denise Osbourne talks her out of the idea. Derek's car needs a new carburettor, and Denise warns Derek about talking advantage of teenagers. Mavis begins to feel an outcast amongst her friends. The distributor breaks on Derek's car... By the end of the month Kevin Webster is forced to tell Derek the car isn't worth repairing.

Mike Baldwin receives an unexpected tax demand; Alma forces him to ask Maggie Dunlop to help with the school fees by refusing to let him touch her money. Maggie is livid and accuses Mike of emotional blackmail.

Sally Webster is upset when people guess she is pregnant after Rosie kicks her in the stomach. The Websters plan a night out, but ask Vera Duckworth to babysit, and not Rita in case she feels they are wasting her money. Rita realises her dilemma and encourages Sally to enjoy the money and spend some on a new car.

Alf Roberts runs through the mayoral ceremony at the Town Hall, and Audrey upsets him when she gets bored. When he complains, she suggests he finds another mayoress. Alf invites Rita Sullivan to be mayoress, and she agrees, as long as Audrey doesn't mind. Audrey is livid when she finds out and demands he drops Rita; when he refuses Audrey threatens to start rumours of an affair. Alf is forced to retract his offer to Rita, who is annoyed at being messed around.

Jim McDonald wins a day at the races in the Legion raffle. He is amazed when Mike Baldwin lends him his Jaguar for the day. When he's at the races, Jim meets up with Major Williams from his Army days, and allows the major to think the Jag is his. Jim finds there's a catch when he returns the Jag and Mike announces he's setting up Baldwin's Executive Taxi Services, ferrying businessmen around.

Raquel Wolstenhulme buys Des Barnes a leather jacket and plans a party for his birthday; he still feels guilty about sleeping with Tanya Pooley, and confesses to Curly Watts - who tells him to forget it. Raquel throws the party for Des and gets drunk; Alma Baldwin takes her into the garden for some air, and only just manages to avoid her seeing Tanya kissing Des. Later Alma assures Des she will keep quiet.

May

The hospital holds an enquiry, and Mrs Barker is unhappy with the result. She asks Gail Platt to help with an appeal, but she refuses. Mrs Baker accuses her of siding with Martin, who sits down and explains Mandy's death was a tragic accident.

Sally Webster suffers from high blood pressure and Rita Sullivan lends a hand. She offers Sally financial help if she wants to give up childminding.

Alf Roberts takes over as mayor, and Audrey Roberts is soon friendly with chauffeur Brian Bowes. She gets him to take them on a detour down Coronation Street where they get stuck behind a lorry, and incur Percy Sugden's wrath, who accuses Alf of high living at the ratepayer's expense. At a tree planting ceremony, Audrey refuses to get out of the car as she may dirty her shoes; she stays in the car and flirts with Brian.

Charlie Whelan comes back from a trip to France, bringing Bet Gilroy perfume and cheap lager for her to sell in the Rovers. Bet refuses as it is illegal, and so he strikes a deal with Reg Holdsworth, much to both Bet and Maureen's annoyance. At the end of the month, Charlie's lorry is hijacked.

Des Barnes sees Tanya Pooley plan a weekend away together in the Cotswolds, and tells Raquel Wolstenhulme he has to work away in Newcastle for a week. Alex Christie again promises to take Tanya to Amsterdam; she immediately phones Des and cancels their weekend. Raquel models wedding dresses for a day, and shows Des the photos in the hope he will propose. Des thrills Raquel with a surprise weekend away - in the Cotswolds, and Raquel spots Tanya's mystery lover - Des' boss - as he picks her up for their Amsterdam weekend.

Des ensures Tanya knows how much he and Raquel enjoy their weekend. Tanya is shocked when Alex announces he is leaving Val, his wife. However, both Des and Tanya confess they can't stop thinking about each other. They both agree to drop their other lovers, but Tanya is still annoyed when Alex tells her he can't leave Val. Tanya enjoys phoning Des from the Rovers - in front of Raquel, and when Des takes Raquel out for a meal and they find Tanya and Alex dining together, Tanya plays a dangerous game by asking Des and Raquel to join them. Des assures Alex he won't tell Val.

Derek Wilton tries to quit EnviroSphere, but finds he can't get any money back. Derek starts 'working' evenings and a suspicious Mavis Wilton watches him deliver flowers to a woman's house. Derek is forced to admit he has been trying to sell EnviroSphere to his ex-wife Angela Hawthorne - and that she has offered him a job at her company. Derek takes the job and then tells a jealous Mavis that Angela is single again. After going out on a business lunch with Angela, Mavis sabotages Derek's sandwiches and he confesses to Mavis that he finds her jealousy 'erotic' !!

Ken Barlow and Denise Osborne become closer, but he is still delighted when Deirdre Barlow pays a visit. She catches up on the gossip but Ken doesn't tell her about him and Denise. When he drops Deirdre off at the bus station, she kisses him and tells him how much she has missed him. On his return, Ken is stunned to be told by Denise that she is pregnant and will keep the baby. However, she tells him she is capable of surviving on her own and is pleased to hear that Ken isn't looking for a wife, but that he will play a role in both their lives. They agree to wait three months before telling anyone.

Maud Grimes agrees to accompany Percy Sugden to the D-Day celebrations in France, and Maureen Holdsworth decides to go with her mother, but Reg Holdsworth objects as he needs her in the shop. He relents after Maud recounts her experiences as a wartime munitions girl.

Jim McDonald chauffeurs some yuppies in the Jag for a day, putting up with their Irish jokes - and they pay with a dud cheque. He delights in showing Mike Baldwin his £50 tip - in cash ! Major Ronnie Williams turns up in Coronation Street at the end of the month and is amused to find Jim is only a mechanic, who neither owns the garage nor the Jaguar. Steve McDonald shows him where the bookies is and is impressed when Ronnie places a £100 bet and shows no emotion when he wins £800. Steve arranges to go to Redcar Races with Ronnie and wins £200, but Jim tells him he will loose eventually.

Andy McDonald leaves his shirt out to dry in No7's yard, and one of Jack Duckworth's pigeons muckies it. The Duckworths refuse to compensate Andy. Curly Watts finds a pigeon has flown into his 'observatory'. Jack identifies it as 'Fergie', but Andy refuses to let Jack retrieve her. Sense prevails and Curly agrees to let Jack get Fergie , Vera Duckworth agrees to wash Andy's shirt - until Curly finds Jack on his roof, trying to get into the observatory. Curly closes the window and Andy removes the ladder - leaving Jack on the roof. Jack refuses to move and Vera proudly says she will stand by him, whilst going off to bingo ! As night falls, Jack ties himself to the chimney.. The next morning Curly opens the window and Fergie flies home; Andy replaces the ladder but Jack's limbs have gone dead and they have to call the fire brigade out. The Weatherfield Gazette turns up and runs a story about "The Bird Man of Weatherfield". Jack is turned into a minor celebrity.

Nicky Platt announces that he wants to be called Nick from now on. He wants a new pair of trainers, but Gail Platt refuses to buy them. he plays on granny Audrey Roberts sympathy, but Gail stops him again and forces him to do housework. Rita Sullivan agrees to take Nick on as a paperboy, but again Gail refuses. She makes Nick babysit; he takes Sarah-Louise and David out to the garage, where David gets oil all over his top. In the end Nick turns to cleaning cars; Derek Wilton pays him £5 because he does such a good job.

June

Des Barnes tells Tanya Pooley he can't stand the thought of her with Alex Christie and he promises to stay away from her. Des becomes increasingly irritated with Raquel Wolstenhulme as he can't stop thinking about Tanya, and after a week he arranges to meet her again - he leaves Raquel early in the morning to make love to Tanya. He again urges her to finish with Alex and says he will leave Raquel.

A fortnight later Tanya tells Alex she has had enough of the deceit of an affair with a married man and breaks off their relationship. She tells Des now it's his turn to dump Raquel.Meanwhile Alex stuns her by moving into the flat, explaining that he's left Val, his wife. Alex suggests they look for a flat together and they give notice on the café flat. A thrilled Tanya tells Raquel her news, who tells Des. She can't understand why Des is so annoyed and follows him when he walks out of the house at midnight. She watches him let himself into Tanya's flat and looks on horrified when Des confronts Alex and Tanya in bed together, calling Tanya his woman. Raquel flees in tears to Bet Gilroy at the Rovers whilst Alex and Des fight downstairs in the café. Alex leaves, but Des is shocked when Tanya tells him he has ruined everything. In the morning Alma Baldwin finds the café in a state and immediately throws out Tanya. Bet helps Raquel move out of No6. Tanya hits herself about the face before confronting Bet and Raquel at work, telling them how Des blackmailed her, and beat her up after they finished. She is comforted by Raquel.

Charlie Whelan is questioned about the lorry hijack, and upsets Bet Gilroy by lying to cover up an unofficial detour for booze and fags. He explains to Bet that he was hijacked a couple of years ago and is worried that his insurers may think this was a setup. Bet has her own doubts, but Charlie is upset when he hears this. He suggests a holiday in Spain - but Bet fears he is trying to evade the police. The lorry turns up in Stoke minus the trailer of whisky, but the police have a tip-off about this and may recover his load. Charlie walks out on Bet, feeling betrayed she didn't trust him, and takes a fortnight to return.

Martin Platt points out to Gail that Nick is getting desperate for his own money; she relents and allows him to take a paper round. Don buys Nick the trainers, and Nick agrees to repay him in instalments.

Derek Wilton looks forward to his new company car, but is distraught when it arrives - complete with a giant paperclip on the roof.

Percy Sugden, Maud Grimes and Maureen Holdsworth travel to France for the D-day ceremonies. Percy admits he still feels bitter towards the Germans. They visit the war graves and Percy weeps for his lost pals. Maud then takes Maureen to an American cemetery pointing out the grave of Leonard Kennedy, and tells her he was her real father; she wanted Maureen to know the truth before she died. A stunned Maureen was amazed how Maud had managed to keep the secret to herself for nearly 50 years. Maureen assures her mother that she thinks no worse of her for her affair, and when they get back to Weatherfield Reg is equally understanding, but when Percy hears the story he accuses Maud of betraying her husband Wilfred and breaks off their engagement

Steve McDonald asks his mother to lend him £500 for a business deal, and she takes it from her compensation money, not realising he is going to the races with Ronnie. Jim McDonald finds out and accuses Steve of conning Liz McDonald and a fight breaks out. Steve returns the £500, saying he has won thousands, moves out of No11 and goes to London for a few days.

On his return, Steve asks Andy McDonald to put him up at No7. Liz is furious when she finds out.and Steve hadn't told her. When he does some washing, he turns both Andy and Curly Watts' shirts pink. They soon tire of Steve sleeping on the sofa, but Curly is pleased that the pink shirts have a positive reaction on the women at work. The rift between Jim and Steve widens, especially after Steve books Jim as a chauffeur for him and Andy, planning a wild night for the three of them. The plan backfires and Jim feels humiliated.

Deirdre Barlow's mother moves into a nursing home and Deirdre moves back into No1. Ken Barlow tells her he is seeing Denise Osborne - and she is pregnant ! A very upset Deirdre throws him out, saying she always wanted his child but he refused to consider it. Denise is annoyed Ken has let their secret out, and Deirdre makes matters far worse by announcing to the whole of the Rovers. Fiona fears for her job, but Ken assures she will need her more than ever. Deirdre confides in Liz McDonald that she was expecting Ken and her to get back together, and how she wishes she was pregnant. She books a Moroccan holiday to get away from the Street. Denise goes to childbirth lessons alone and Ken feels excluded. He proposes marriage and they row. She eventually apologies and wants him involved, but will never marry him as they don't truly love each other.

Jack Duckworth's story appears in a national newspaper; Jack is horrified when Dulcie Froggatt publishes her story as the Bird Man's lover. Jack hides the papers from Vera, only for her to read the story a few days later in fish & chip wrappings. Vera announces she is going to sue - but only because Jack has never been a "five times a night" man ! Jack persuades her that action wouldn't be suitable with her 'royal connections'.

Sally and Kevin Webster decide they should have a holiday in Blackpool, and invite Rita along. She declines as Blackpool has bad memories for her, but in the end agrees and tries to put the past behind her.

July

Jim McDonald patches things up with son Steve. Steve agrees to 'keep an eye' on No6 whilst Des Barnes is away and moves in. He buys a Fiesta XR2 for £2,000 and uses it to impress Fiona Middleton. When Des returns he tries to throw Steve out, but Steve reminds him he is unemployed and needs the rent, so allows him to stay on.

The Websters and Rita Sullivan go on holiday to Blackpool, but their boarding house turns out to be terrible. Rita plays with Rosie and even takes her on a tram, overcoming her fears. When they change guest houses and Rita pays for it all, Sally worries that they are taking advantage of her, but she assures Sally that she is really enjoying herself.

Bet Gilroy tells Tanya Pooley to start looking for a new job, and Alex Christie dismisses Des Barnes when he turns up for work; he threatens an industrial tribunal. Des talks to Tanya and is shocked to be told her bruised her face. He admits he still loves her, but Tanya tells him she isn't interested. Curly Watts warns Des to keep away from Raquel, telling him he despises men who hit women. Raquel moves the rest of her stuff out of No6. Tanya tries to persuade Alex to start again, saying Des blackmailed her, but Alex says he isn't interested in soiled goods. However, she does persuade Alma Baldwin to allow her to stay on in the café flat. Des tries to convince Raquel he didn't hit Tanya and pleads for another chance with Raquel, but she refuses. Des decides to spend some time in Hartlepool. He returns a fortnight later, and this so upsets Raquel that she goes on another modelling course in Croydon.

Charlie Whelan returns and starts working behind the Rovers bar. Later he tells Bet how much he enjoys it and considers giving up driving.

Vera Duckworth misses her grandson Tommy, so travels to Blackpool and stays in Shirley Horten's boarding house - Doreen Horten's sister. She is surprised at how much Tommy has grown, but even more surprised to find her old flame Lester Fonteyne staying at the same boarding house. He is now working as a bingo caller and Vera pays a visit to the bingo hall where he works. She is thrilled he remembers her and they go dancing together. He flatters her and persuades her to stay on for a few days, and then asks her to come and live with him in his bungalow in Filey. She is tempted but returns to Jack and Weatherfield. She becomes worried that she was spotted with Lester by Rita and the Websters - but she gives herself away when Jack finds Lester's photo in her handbag. He makes her tear it up.

Deirdre Barlow returns from Morocco, tanned and very happy, and Liz McDonald correctly guesses that she has had a holiday romance. She shows Liz pictures of her lover, a younger Moroccan man called Samir. She goes for an interview at Bettabuys, and despite Curly Watts' 'patronising' interview style, she takes the job.

Ken Barlow recognises that Denise Osborne is wary at Deirdre's return and suggests they move in together, but Denise refuses to talk. Reg Holdsworth is keen to regain the Corner Shop flat for a storeroom and suggests that Ken rent No12, which he does - though lamenting that he has spent his entire life on the street. Denise has a faint in the salon, and later is rushed to hospital, without telling Ken. He is annoyed when his finds out, and rushes to the hospital to support Denise. She breaks down as she explains she has lost the baby, but a scan reveals there is another, twin baby, fit and well.

Back at the salon, stylist Fiona Middleton finds it increasingly hard to cope on her own, and fears the salon may have to close. Ken gets Audrey Roberts to help out, not very successfully, so Denise arranges for stylist Jon Welch to start working at the salon.

Reg Holdsworth discovers that Bettabuy have introduced a share option scheme and decides he made a mistake buying the Corner Shop. He considers selling and persuades Ken Barlow to rent his flat at No12. Reg spends less time in the shop, and Maureen soon tires of working all alone, but when Reg reveals his plans - sell the shop and take up a job offer at Firman's Freezers, she is adamant she enjoys her freedom and refuses to give it up. Reg takes the Firman's job, leaving Maureen and Maud to struggle on in the shop, thinking they can't cope; a 'for sale' sign goes up outside...

Ivy Brennan leaves her husband Don, and decides to spend some time in a religious retreat, but once there she shows no sign of returning.

Mike Baldwin continues to have money problems - only made worse when Steve McDonald starts flashing his money around. Then he receives letters from the Spanish Government demanding taxes on his Spanish property bought off Robert Prescott; he ignores them. Things get worse - the bank threatens bankruptcy and his cheques bounce. The letters from Spain continue and Mike finally gets Charlie Whelan to translate them. Fearing the worst, Charlie tells him that the land is being compulsory purchased for a road scheme and he is being offered £70,000 compensation !

August

Tired that Derek Wilton is at the beck and call of his boss and ex-wife Angela Hawthorne, Mavis Wilton joins Emily Bishop at her art class and finds she has an aptitude for it. They go on an outing and she is befriended by librarian Roger Crompton. Emily finds she hasn't the time to continue, but Mavis does. Roger gives her a lift home, but Derek dismisses him as an artistic oddball.

Alf Roberts takes great pleasure in reliving memories and showing Maureen Holdsworth the ropes at the cash & carry. Meanwhile Reg Holdsworth is found spying in the freezer section at Bettabuys and is thrown out by Curly Watts.

Charlie Whelan gives Vicky Arden a lift to Worcester in his lorry to visit a friend. Charlie finds out it is really a rave party - but Vicky finds out from another driver that Charlie may loose his licence in a forthcoming court case. Vicky worries that Charlie is just using Bet Gilroy as an insurance - but both agree not to tell Bet of their secrets. However, worried for Bet, Vicky confesses all. Bet rows with Charlie only to find that he was won the case but intends to give up driving to help out at the Rovers. Bets asks him to move in with her.

Mike Baldwin gets an official translation of the Spanish documents and he and Alma go to Spain, leaving a non-too-pleased Gail Platt in charge, helped by her mother Audrey Roberts.

Des Barnes finds himself pursued by someone called Sean Skinner. When they meet he fears he is one of Alex Christie's heavies, but finds he is starting a rival chain of bookies and offers Des a job in the new Rosamund Street office ! Sean takes a fancy to Tanya Pooley, but Des warns him off. Tanya becomes worried about the publicity at Des' tribunal when he calls he as a witness. She turns to Alex for help but he washes his hands of her. Worried about her safety from both Des and Alex, Tanya asks Charlie to walk her home from the Rovers. In the end Alex agrees to settle out of court and pays Des £1,500.

Deirdre Barlow is overjoyed when she receives a love letter from Samir Rachid in Morocco. Liz McDonald cautions her to be wary, but Deirdre insists Samir really does love her. To prove it, she phones him - but finds he is "unavailable"... However, later that day he returns the call - to Deirdre's delight. She decides to send him the money for a ticket to Britain, and asks Mike Baldwin to lend her £300, but he's broke until the Spanish money comes through. Liz refuses, saying she doesn't want to help Deirdre make a fool of herself, and so Deirdre approaches Emily, leaving her with the impression it's for unpaid bills, and she readily agrees. Deirdre rather guiltily take the money. Before Emily leaves for a break in Bridlington, she approaches her again for another £300, and within a few days Samir is on his way. When he arrives at Manchester Airport he is detained by immigration officers, and Deirdre has to go to the airport, and feels embarrassed when she is forced to admit Samir is her lover, but he is allowed to enter the country. She introduces him in the Rovers, and things go well until he meets Ken Barlow and Samir thinks he is Deirdre's father !

Paula Maxwell surprises Andy McDonald by approaching Bettabuys for a summer job. After a spat over staffing, Curly Watts gives in and employs her. Paula is impressed with how Andy has matured and handles staff, and makes a play for him - but he doesn't want a relationship again, and she is left feeling hurt. When Curly asks her out for a drink she turns him down, saying she isn't interested in him or Bettabuys.

Mayor Alf and Audrey Roberts visit a local pensioner who is 100, and who turns out to be an ex-neighbour of the Roberts'. He cringes as she remembers he was always a greedy little boy, nicknamed Fat Alfalfa ! Audrey gets excited when she hears there is an official mayoral visit to Weatherfield's twin town in France - Charleville, but is disappointed to find she won't be visiting Paris, and she will be judging a black pudding contest ! They set off for France with the Weatherfield butchers, including Fred Elliott, who tries to bribe Alf with food and Audrey with lingerie. He later tries to bribe the French judges, and a row breaks out. Alf sticks up for Fred and England very vocally and eventually finds he has inadvertently 'untwinned' the two towns !

Gail Platt is concerned about Ivy Brennan and visits her at the retreat. Ivy says she will not return to Coronation Street; Don Brennan is unsurprised when Gail breaks the news to him - he is glad she is finally happy. Led by his friend Gary Ryan, Nick Platt starts smoking, and look to sell his old computer to buy a CD-ROM drive - Martin stops him. Gary finds that Martin isn't Nick's father and quizzes him about Brian Tilsley. Nick paints a picture of a tough guy hero, riding a motorbike. Hearing he was murdered only elevates his hero status. Martin Platt brings some photos from work about the effects of smoking, but Nick angrily tells him he isn't his real dad. They row over the next few days and Gail feels very hurt. Nick tries to sell his computer stuff again, but Martin stops him again, and the atmosphere upsets Sarah-Louise. He considers changing his surname back to Tilsley, but Don Brennan talks him round.

Mike & Alma Baldwin return from Spain; as a thank you Alma gives the two weeks profits to Gail. Mike calls round to see his son Mark Redman and is shocked to hear that Maggie Redman is remarrying and moving to Felixstowe. Mike forces Alma to agree to let Mark stay with them, but is even more upset when Mark says he's happy with the move, had never settled into Oakhill School and is looking forward to spending time on the yacht Maggie's fiancée Gerry Woodward owns...

September

Bet Gilroy reminds Tanya Pooley that she is still only working at the Rovers until she finds a new post. Charlie Ryan sympathises with her, saying they are both just on probation. Bet also has a worrying dream that Raquel Wolstenholme is in trouble; she contacts the modelling school and finds the course has finished. She tracks Raquel down and finds her overworked in a busy Croydon pub. Despite Bet's attempts to bring her back, Raquel is staying in London to look for work, and is saving to have her nose shortened. Meanwhile, Charlie and Tanya are left in charge of the Rovers - Tanya tells Charlie he is becoming domesticated and it doesn't suit him. Soon Raquel turns up in Weatherfield - she confides in Bet that a photographer told both her and her agency that she was useless and she was dropped. A wounded Raquel begs Bet not to tell Tanya - but Bet does tell Charlie.

Tanya is convinced Raquel has been away to have an abortion. Charlie puts her straight, and when a copy of the brewery calendar arrives with Raquel's picture in it, Tanya wastes no time letting everyone know Raquel failed as a model. Raquel runs sobbing from the bar, Des Barnes tells Tanya she is a bitch, and Bet sacks her on the spot. Charlie tries to defend Tanya, but Bet won't listen. Charlie visits Tanya's flat where they both agree Bet uses people - they kiss, and then spend the night together. Charlie tells Tanya he does care for her. He decides he can't sell his lorry and takes a job in Hamburg; Tanya asks if she can tag along. Charlie tries to just walk away, but Tanya tells him to face Bet. Tanya then takes the opportunity to tell Bet they are lovers and they are leaving together. Minutes later a heartbroken Bet has to wear a painted smile as the customers in the bar push over a stack of coins for charity. A couple of days later, Bet and Raquel hold a tip contest in an attempt to cheer themselves up. They spend their winnings after closing time making cocktails and getting drunk. Raquel tells Bet how she deals with people she hates - she writes their name on a piece of paper and puts it in the knife drawer. Bet sits down and starts a long list...

There's more friction between Martin Platt and his stepson Nick. Don Brennan offers to look after Nick for a night at No5 to give everyone a break, but then Nick doesn't want to come home. Don stops Nick's friend Gary Ryan from smoking in his house, and tells Nick that his father, Brian Tilsley hated smoking. After a week, Don persuades Nick to come for tea at No8, but he refuses to come home. Don arranges it so he has to work nights - but instead of going back to No8, Nick upsets Gail further by staying at Gary's house.

Alf Roberts smooths over the political wrinkles after the French fallout and re-twins Weatherfield and Charleville after realizing that Fred really did attempt to bribe a contest judge.

Steve McDonald is still gambling big money on the horses and his luck is running high. He takes a flat right next door to Mike and Alma Baldwin which irritates Mike no end.

Andy McDonald and Curly Watts fall out over Paula Maxwell and Andy resigns from Bettabuys, deciding to return to university.

Derek Wilton becomes pouty over Mavis's attention to her art classes, and scandalized when he realizes she's been drawing nude male models.

Samir Rachid decides to stay in England. Deirdre couldn't be more pleased. Samir finds a job in a Moroccan restaurant but is in fact working without a permit which makes Deirdre very nervous. Tracy discovers a handsome young man in her mother's house and is appalled to find out that he is Deirdre's lover. She whines to Ken about how disgusting it all is but he stays neutral, conveniently avoiding telling her that he's having a baby with Denise. This falls to Deirdre to break the news to spite Tracy after another barrage of insults and Tracy storms off in a temper.

October

Steve McDonald persuades Mike Baldwin to invest in the T-shirt business because no bank will give him a loan. Mike laughs it off as ridiculous, initially, but sees a way to have Steve where he wants him and make a few bob in the process. Mike takes advantage of Steve's preoccupation with winning Fiona's heart to set up a dirty deal where Steve ends up with a very small share of the profits on a very lucrative contract. This leaves Steve frustrated and Mike laughing all the way to the bank.

Steve's persuit of Fiona Middleton is persistent, very on again off again because she has serious concerns about his gambling and he has proven many times he cannot be trusted. Fiona arranges a holiday to Tenerife with her friend Maxine Heavey and a few other girlfriends but Steve tries to side track it by offering her a posh holiday to Florida instead. Failing at that, he books himself a ticket to Tenerife and a room in the same hotel until Fiona, appalled at his presumption, tells him that she will have him arrested by the police if he comes near her on any beach. Steve slinks off to Orlando, Florida to lick his wounds without telling anyone.

Mavis Wilton continues to resent Derek's involvement with Angela and Hawthorne's. Derek is chagrinned when Norris Cole wins a Northwest High Acheiver award after he taught Norris everything he knew. Mavis and Roger Crompton spend a lot of time together, quite innocently as Roger asks if he can sketch and subsequently paint Mavis's portrait. Derek sees the end result, a lovely painting, at a student art exhibition and goes beserk in a jealous rage and accuses Mavis of all manner of untoward behaviour with Roger! Derek attempts to sell Mavis's car but Mavis, smarting from Derek's mistrust of her and Roger's friendship, insists on keeping it to maintain some semblence of independence, which only fuels Derek's suspcions further.

Things really explode when Derek is cited as co-respondent in Angela's divorce. Mavis accuses Derek of hypocrisy, blaming her to cover up his own affair. The Wilton home becomes a battleground. Mavis flees briefly to Rita Sullivan's but decides she was firmly innocent and makes Derek leave instead. He decamps to Norris's lounge. Roger takes advantage of the situation to make some inroads with Mavis but Derek continues to make much more of the friendship than there is. Even Angela tries to intervene, telling Mavis that she's playing into the solicitor's hands by evicting Derek and making it seem the allegations of adultery are true which, Angela insists, are most certainly not! Mavis admirably stands up to Angela and sends her away with a flea in her ear, confident in her position and still not willing to believe in Derek's innocence.

Mike Baldwin buys a second hand Mercedes to fortify the chauffeuring side of his business.

Charlie Whelan returns to Weatherfield, tail between his legs and hat in hand. He asks Raquel Wolstenholme to find out if Bet Gilroy will see him so he can make up. Bet and Charlie meet on neutral ground where he apologizes profusely and tells her he was drawn in like a bug to a black widow spider and he still loves her. Bet has a think for a few days and finally tells Charlie that though she still loves him too, she cannot take him back because she could never trust him again. They say their final goodbyes.

Nick Tilsley is still at Don Brennan's and Gail and Martin Platt are still bickering. Gail is having reservations about the way Don is looking after Nick, allowing him to take advantage of his good nature. But Nick won't come home and Martin and Don both think that Don should be allowed to use his good judgement where Nick is concerned.

Andy McDonald returns to university, securing a position at University of Manchester.

Raquel Wolsethulme offers to help Curly Watts when he decides he needs to redecorate. They strip the wallpaper and toss the old furniture but disaster strikes when Curly is sacked from Bettabuys after an accumulation of many complaints, several from Kimberly Taylor and Elaine Fenwick the most serious being charges of sexual harassment. There's poor Curly - no job, no furniture, reputation in tatters. Raquel does her best to support him but when she realizes he fancies her, she gently turns down his hopes. She just wants to be his friend. Curly sinks into depression and bitterness.

November

Norris Cole attempts to get Derek Wilton off his sofa by suggesting that "Dirk" move into a B&B and make a clean break with Mavis. But when Derek lets himself in to No4 to retrieve his belongings, he discovers Harry dead in his cage. Mavis is devastated, blaming all the contention in the house for Harry's early demise and they make up their differences. Derek buys Mavis a new budgie that they name Beauty. They decide to celebrate their reunion and upcoming wedding anniversary with a dinner party but Mavis is aghast at Derek's insistence on the guest list: Rita Sullivan, Roger Crompton, Norris Cole and... Angela! The dinner party is a bit contentious and awkward but one surprising outcome is a blossoming friendship between Rita and Roger. Meanwhile, unaware of this, Mavis and Derek go on a little holiday to Troon where Angela has offered them the use of her cottage there.

Deirdre Barlow is increasingly tense about Samir Rachid working illegally after immigration officials investigate the restaurant and Samir has to stop working until things cool off. She decides to propose to him to keep him in the country. She reasons they would have married eventually anyway as they love each other, but Samir initially reacts badly to the suggestion due to the timing. In the end however, they happily announce their engagement. Some of the Street residents are very happy for them, with contributions of a makeover and a wedding hat that Rita has donated. Bet throws a surprise reception for them at the Rovers as well. But Ken is not happy and gets the idea in his head that Samir is just using Deirdre. He manages to sway Emily Bishop to his reasoning as well, and Emily and Deirdre fall out as a result. Emily won't even attend the wedding and Tracy is outright obnoxious about the whole affair though does grudgingly attend the Register Office ceremony, leaving shortly after in tears.

Maureen Holdsworth, Raquel Wolstenhulme and Des Barnes all try to lift Curly Watt's spirits. Des is persuaded to give Curly a job in Skinner's betting shop but it doesn't work out very well. Fortunately, Curly realises this as well and quits before Des is forced by Sean Skinner to sack his friend. Curly does manage to get a job in a bulk food store, Soopa Scoopa, where he's forced to wear an American-style brightly striped uniform. Still... it's a job.

Sally Webster gives birth to a little girl that they name Lauren. Rosie insists on calling her new sister Sophie however, and Sally and Kevin decide to go with that instead. Rita Sullivan feels left out though, as she waits across the road for an invite to see the new baby. Sally and Kevin are in an uproar trying to adjust to the new hectic schedule and only think that Rita is too busy to pop across the road. Finally Sally urges Kevin to make sure Rita knows she's welcome anytime which soothes the red ruffled feathers and Rita opens a bank account for Sophie as a gift.

Gail Platt nearly persuades Nick to come home after he stays overnight one night while Martin was on night shift. However as soon as Nick sees Martin he takes off again, leaving Gail to moan and blame Martin for coming downstairs instead of staying abed after coming home. The Platt house is not a happy one these days.

Audrey Roberts is enjoying the perks of being Mayoress, especially having a handsome chauffeur to flirt with and a car more or less at her disposal. She takes full advantage of this, taking the kiddies to school and going on shopping excursions while the lovely chauffeur Brian trails behind her carrying her bags and catering to her every whim. Alf catches her hiding from her official duty one night, sitting in the car drinking and laughing with Brian and retaliates by using the limo as a cost cutting measure, losing the car and driver in the process. Brian has to be content with general council tooing and froing and Alf insists he and Audrey will take the bus or a taxi to official functions. Brian tries to get Audrey to change Alf's mind but Alf digs his heels in and so does Audrey. She threatens to resign as Mayoress if she doesn't get her car and driver returned - but it backfires when Alf accepts her resignation.

December

Mavis Wilton discovers that Roger Crompton is now taking Rita Sullivan out and is jealous that he has so easily transferred his affections. Mavis tells Roger about some of Rita's recent past including her marriage to Ted and the trouble over the will. Rita scolds Mavis soundly but she and Roger determine that they really only have a future as friends.

Meanwhile, Rita finds out that Alf Roberts is on the lookout for a new Mayoress but manages to head him off before he asks her. Eventually, Alf's quest is successful when Bet Gilroy puts fortward Betty Turpin - which suits both Alf and Audrey just fine.

Maureen Holdsworth is reaching the end of her tether, trying to run the Corner Shop alone with just her mother Maud Grimes for help. Reg is sulky because she spends so much of her time and energy on the shop and when he finds her in tears in the back yard one day, pledges that he will be more supportive. Maureen decides that they should sell the shop and contacts the estate agents. In the meantime, Sally Webster agrees to work part time in the evenings when Kevin is home to mind the children to help out.

Gail Platt wants her family to be together for Christmas. Nick is reluctant as is Martin but the fur flies when Gail discovers Martin has to work on Christmas Day, accusing him of volunteering for the shift. Martin says he didn't but admits after Christmas he did. Nick does spend Christmas Day with his family but the day is less than happy for Gail because Martin isn't there and she's very sharp with him on the phone when he calls. The end result is that Martin, in a fit of spite, ends up having a one night stand with a fellow nurse, Cathy Powers. Alf Roberts, in the hospital on official Mayoral duties witnesses the pair kissing but keeps quiet for the time being. Nick hasn't returned home yet but Gail and Martin make peace with each other after the holidays, Martin attempting to assuage his guilt.

Liz McDonald quits her job at the Legion. Sean Skinner takes a shine to her and creates a job for her at his betting shop, giving Des cause to question who's the real manager. Steve McDonald and Fiona Middleton are back on good terms and he asks her to move in with him. She thinks hard about it and accepts.

Jack Duckworth's brother Clifford shows up. Jack is highly suspicious of Clifford's claims that he doesn't have long to live but Vera is taken in completely by his charming ways. She tries to convince Jack that they could be the inheritors of Clifford's estate - which Clifford hints could be considerable.

Deirdre and Samir Rachid don't get to be happy for very long. Immigration arrest Samir and interrogate both him and Deirdre. The marriage is legal but they suspect it was only arranged to keep Samir in the country. They have also found out that he was working illegally. It looks like Samir will be deported and Deirdre makes a decision. She will leave Weatherfield and move to Morocco to be with her beloved husband. She's still not on speaking terms with Emily Bishop, Ken heartily disapproves and Tracy is horrified but Deirdre and Tracy do make up before they leave. Deirdre sells her house to Mike Baldwin for an advance of £15,000 with the rest to follow when he resells it and they fly off to Agadir just before New Year's Eve.

Curly Watts lies to his new boss and says he is engaged. Now he has to find a fiancee to drape over his arm at the staff Christmas party. Bet Gilroy has fun winding him up, and Curly tries to figure out a way to gently tell Bet she wasn't really what he had in mind - but in the end Raquel Wolstenholme volunteers to go, just for their friendship's sake. The evening goes very well - so well that Curly suggests they make the engagement real. Raquel knows she doesn't love Curly but she also knows he's a good man and would treat her well. After weighing the options, she decides to accept, although Bet has serious reservations. A ring is bought and a future begins to be planned...
