2017

Wednesday 1 November

Sarah, Gary and baby Harry arrive home from Milan. They tell Gail that Bethany has decided to stay on with Uncle Stephen for a while. Shona asks Gary how Faye is, and then it becomes apparent that he doesn't know anything about Seb's accident, so rushes off over there. Sarah then tells Gail that she and Gary are going to get a flat in Victoria Court, they're moving out.

Craig is anxiously watching the clock before he leaves for work. Chesney comes downstairs as Sinead is pouring cornflakes into a bowl, and tells her that he is going to take Joseph out for a special breakfast and suggests that Sinead goes and gets him up.

Over at Anna's, Gary asks Faye if she's going to get tested for HIV, and she says that she is. Anna says that they were up all night researching it. Just then there's a knock at the door and when Faye goes to answer it, Gary asks Anna why Seb would say that she pushed him when she didn't. Anna doesn't know, so Gary wonders if he might have spoken to Nicola. Anna tells him that Nicola has gone, she learned a few facts about Pat, her dad, and has seen his true colours. She adds that it's probably for the best, seeing as she's pregnant. Gary looks rather shocked. Faye then comes back into the room, followed by two police officers who want to talk to Anna about a potential assault on Sebastian Franklin.

Over in the cafe, Chesney is wondering why Joseph hasn't touched his chocolate pancakes. Sinead thinks that maybe he just wants something normal. She also thinks going to school might help him, but Ches thinks it's a bit soon. Brian is sitting just behind them and turns round, saying that he thinks Sinead is right, the daily routine of school, and making new friends, probably will help him. He says he'll have a word with the head of Bessie Street school.

Audrey, Maria and David are also sitting in the cafe. David tells them that he's thinking of asking Shona to move in with him. Maria thinks that's a very big step, and Audrey thinks Shona might now want to.

The police asks Anna to tell them about the altercation she had with Seb on the morning of his accident. She admits that she lost her temper, but is normally a very calm person. The police officer points out that just yesterday she assaulted Seb's mother in the hospital. Anna tells them they're twisting things and Faye rushes in and tells them that Anna wouldn't hurt Seb. The police officer thinks that Anna could have been in the solicitor's office while Seb was cleaning the window and she pushed him. Anna tells them she's never been anywhere near that office. "So we won't find any of your DNA in there?" asks the officer. Anna assures them that they won't. She's then asked if she'd like to get a solicitor but she says she wouldn't, because she hasn't done anything wrong.

Rita, Jenny and Gemma are walking down the street. Rita tells them she's going into town to have a mooch round the shops. Gemma thought she was getting her results today, but Rita assures her that it's tomorrow, then she leaves them, saying she fancies having some time to herself. Jenny goes on into the cafe for breakfast, but Gemma stays on the pavement watching Rita walk over to the taxi office, and looks puzzled.

The police officers have arrived at Adam's office and want to ask some questions and have a look round. Adam tells them they have no chance, not without a warrant, he doesn't trust them one bit. The police say they'll go and get a warrant then, and who knows what a full search of Adam's office will turn up? Adam relents then, and says they can search. They ask him if he was present when Seb was assaulted, Adam replies: "No comment."

Gary goes to see Nicola, he's heard she's leaving. She tells him that she's found out that Pat isn't the man she thought he was, his secrets have finally caught up with him. He tells her he's heard she's pregnant and asks if it's his. She tells him it's Scott's, the timing wasn't right for it to be his. Gary is relieved.

Rita has gone to the hospital to get her results. Just then there's a knock on the door and a secretary comes in and says she has Rita's daughter (!) outside demanding to come it. Just then Gemma bursts in, she knew what Rita was doing and she's going to get the results with her, whether she likes it or not! Rita smiles then, and says she's glad she came. The doctor then tells them that the tumour was benign. Rita weeps with relief.

In the salon, Audrey asks David if he's thought any more about his living arrangements. He tells them he thought he had it all worked out, but she and Maria have put him off the idea. They tell him it's probably for the best, after all who would want to live with Gail? Audrey says she wouldn't and she's her mother! Just then Shona herself comes in with a buttie for David, and as she's leaving he calls her back and asks if she'll move in with him. She says she will, and he turns to Audrey and Maria. "In your face, spinsters!" he grins.

Back at the hospital, the doctor inspects Rita's operation wound on her head and says it's healing nicely. Rita says the doctor has given her her life back, and thanks her.

Sinead is trying to do a jigsaw puzzle with Joseph, but he's angry and throws the pieces on the floor. Just then there's a knock on the door, it's Brian, come with good news, he's arranged for them to go and meet the head of Bessie Street school in half an hour. Chesney starts trying to put Joseph's shoes on but he won't let him, and runs off upstairs. Ches then tells Sinead to look after him, he'll go on his own to the school, and rushes off out. Sinead doesn't look very happy at this turn of events.

In the cafe, Anna tells Faye she can't understand why Seb thought she pushed him. Faye wonders if it was a dream, and says she doesn't want Anna to go to prison. Anna is sure that won't happen, she didn't do it.

Adam comes in to the cafe and tells Shona that the police have been searching his office because of Seb's accident and found nothing. Anna looks at Faye and smiles, "Told you," she says.

In the pub, Jenny tells Audrey and Gail that she's thinking of having a party for Rita. Audrey remembers that she's getting her results today. "No, tomorrow," says Jenny. Sarah wonders if Rita will want a party, but Audrey is sure that she will if the news is good. Sarah points out it may be bad news, and they all look somewhat crestfallen. Then Audrey says she's sure Rita will want a party whatever the news is. Jenny starts to get tearful, saying she won't cope if the news is bad. Just then Rita and Gemma walk in, and Rita announces that she's had the all clear! Everybody is delighted of course, and Rita says they must all go back to her place for a party. Audrey says that Colin won't be happy about that, so Gemma suggests they go back to Jenny and Johnny's.

Beth goes back to the fancy dress costume shop to try to return her flower costume, telling the assistant she hasn't worn it. But there are stains down the front, and she's told she can't have a refund. Beth is adamant she hasn't worn it, and says she's not leaving until she gets her money back. The proprietor then comes out from the back and asks what's going on. Beth starts getting very aggressive, and when the proprietor tells her to calm down, she tells him she's a personal friend of the mayor, Sally Metcalf, and her husband is Buzzer the Bee. The proprietor remembers that there were pictures of them in all the papers, and goes to get one, and shows the assistant. There is Kirk in his bee outfit, and there is Beth, in her flower costume!

Gary is walking down the Street when Nicola comes up to him and tells him she lied earlier, and it is his baby! She's decided she can't lie to the baby for the whole of it's life, it will need to know who it's father is. Then she says she's sorry, she didn't know what to do, and starts crying. Gary gives her a hug and says they'll work something out. Just then, David appears at the end of the ginnel and sees all this.

Anne Logan.

Very quick update from me.... I'll be on my holidays for a few weeks and the good folks at Corriepedia haven't got their Wednesday update posted yet.

Seb spoke to the police last night. He remembers waking up and thinking Anna pushed him but he doesn't know why. Anna promises she didn't push him. Seb refuses to get tested for HIV and neither Anna nor Faye can talk him round. He doesn't want to know.

David confronts Gary about Nicola. David pretends Nicola spoke to him. Gary only admits to a kiss, citing his post-trauma. David insists on telling Sarah himself because Gary is a liar.

Craig and his mentor answer a call at a shop where they find Beth kicking off trying to take the money to return her costume.Craig threatens to arrest her if she doesn't take the costume and leave. She does, angrily. Craig is praised by his mentor.

The police discuss not finding anything at the solicitor's office. Rosie overhears and feels appreciated for her great cleaning job, vac and all. The police want to see that vacuum.

Neither Gary nor David can get hold of Sarah who's seeing about the flat.

David tells Gail that Shona's moving in and they're surprised when she's pleased. Shona can go power walking with her!

Joseph still won't talk and Sinead doesn't know what to do. Chesney has found out that Joseph will be going to Bessie Street school starting in January, to give him a chance to settle in his new home. In the meantime, Chesney expects Sinead to take care of him since she only works a few morning shifts. Ches will coovrdinate his shifts with hers. Sinead does not look pleased.

Gary begs David again not to tell Sarah about Nicola. Sarah comes home while talking to Bethany. Bethany calls Sarah and tells her she's never coming back to Weatherfield. Sarah is devastated. She thinks if she doesn't move out Bethany might come home but David asks her to leave anyway. He wants to make a fresh start with Shona. David doesn't tell her about Gary and Nicola.

Faye tells Seb she can't stay with him if he doesn't get tested. Anna brings Seb's little brother and sister to the hospital which cheers him up. She has an agenda, it's to make him realize that his head in the sand approach to his potential disease affects these little people who need him. He agrees to have the test.

Gail goes to Eileen's with Shona to help her pack up her things. Gail starts to list the rules for living in her house. Shona decides it's not worth moving in and Gail backs down quickly. Shona was, of course, teasing Gail who really seems to like Shona.

Craig is in the pub with his mentor at the end of their shift. He finds out about Bethany from Sarah and his day is ruined.

Gail takes Shona out power walking. David threatens Gary. If he hurts his sister, he's a dead man.

Friday 3 November

Written by Julie Jones and directed by Gill Wilkinson

Seb's due to come home from hospital but who's going to look after him? As usual Anna's ready to jump in but Kev's not keen. He has Jack to think of and surely it's a job for social services? He accuses Anna of never listening to a word he says.

It's breakfast time at Todd and Billy's and Summer's reluctant to go to school. Everyone keeps calling her Stupid Spice after the drug incident. She wants to change schools but this is a problem. Despite living in a very populated area, apparently the only other school for miles around is the private Oakhill where Rosie went. Billy says they can't possibly afford it but Todd says he'll see what he can do.

Sarah's looking forward to moving into her new home with Gary but his mind is elsewhere. She's being very understanding, assuming he's just worried about Faye getting her HIV results.

Johnny goes into his living room to find a bleary-eyed Gemma waking up on the sofa, amid the detritus of the previous evening's celebrations. He's not best pleased, especially when he discovers Gemma's polished off his best whiskey. Rita appears and apologises.

Still trying to sort out arrangement for Seb, Anna tries her luck with Tim and Sally. Tim's not keen – he's worried he won't get a wink of sleep with Seb sneaking into Faye's room. To Anna's surprise, Sally overrules him. She tries to make out it's because she's a good citizen then admits she has a guilty conscience and confesses she was the one who rang social services. Anna can't believe what she's hearing and tells Sally she has to put Faye and Seb straight.

At Barlow Legal Services work's thin on the ground but Adam has some good news for Todd. He's found a potential new client who could bring a lot of business their way. Adam may not be able to afford to buy a Bugatti just yet but Todd thinks it may just pay for the school fees at Oakhill.

In the Kabin, Rita is reminiscing with Norris and Mary while Colin hovers in the background.

We go to the hospital where Anna and Tim have arrived for Faye and Seb to get their blood test results. But Faye asks her parents to leave so the she and Seb can hear the news together, on their own.

The doctor breaks the news to Faye and Seb. It's good and bad. Faye is clear but Seb has tested positive to HIV.

Meanwhile, back on the street, the police are conducting interviews about Anna's involvement in Seb's accident. They go into the cafe to speak to Roy. Kev and Billy spring to Anna's defense as, indeed, does Roy. He describes in detail how Anna was pushed over the edge by Seb who said some really cruel things. Oh dear – now the police think they've found both the means and the motive.

A man walks into the Bistro and bumps into Aidan who turns out to be an old friend. It also transpires the man's come for a meeting with Barlow Legal Services.

Gary has joined Anna and Tim at the hospital. They all wait in the corridor for news of the blood test results.

In the Bistro, Sarah and Gail are also waiting for news. As they chat Gail tells Sarah she's found a good ‘un in Gary and asks if they plan to have any children together. Sarah thinks they already have enough between them and says they haven't discussed it. Gail advises her it's time they did.

Back at the hospital the doctor is talking to Faye and Seb. She reassures them that provided Seb looks after himself and has a healthy lifestyle, there's no reason he can't live a full and long life. She leaves them on their own. Faye goes to kiss Seb but looks hurt when he pulls away.

Norris is ready to hand the keys of the Kabin to Colin when Rita, Gemma, Mary, Sally and Roy arrive holding balloons and party whistles. Colin looks slightly bemused by this ceremony. They all troop off to the Rovers to begin their celebrations. Rita says she'll join them in a minute but she just has to pop back to Johnny's flat. She has one last tearful look round the Kabin before leaving.

In the Bistro Aidan is busy putting his friend Dave straight about Adam Barlow. By the time he and Todd arrive, Dave has already been convinced to take his business elsewhere. Todd and Adam vow to wipe the smile off Aidan's face.

Rita is in Johnny's flat holding an envelope. She's about to leave it when Johnny comes back. He's speaking to someone on the phone. Rita slips behind the door from where she can overhear his conversation. He's complaining about having Rita and Gemma staying in his flat and says enough's enough. He finishes by saying that if Rita wants grow old disgracefully it's fine by him but she needs to go and do it somewhere else. Poor Rita looks really upset.

Anna, Tim and Gary go into Seb's room and hear the news. Tim tells Seb he can go and stay with him and Sally. But before they can say any more the police arrive. They've come to arrest Anna on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and she gets carted away in handcuffs.

Hello again. We really could do with some volunteer updaters. If you can help then please get in touch!

This is episode 9292. The writer for this episode was Mark Wadlow and the director was Gill Wilkinson. Copyright remains the property of ITV whom I would normally thank but they have put the episode up on the ITV Hub without subtitles - epic failure people - we need this to ensure we get key words right, so please do not do it again.

We open at the hospital Gary leaves to go to the police station and Kev arrives so that he can be told that Anna is answering questions.

At the police station Anna is answering questions. She has to admit to having argued with Seb earlier and to slapping Seb. And she has to admit to arguing with Abi over the HIV status. Anna denies entering the legal practice at any point. The officers then show Anna her missing earring which they have found inside a vacuum cleaner at Barlow Legal services.

Rosie has left the phone off the hook. She complains she has nothing to do. Adam and Todd realise they need to keep clients away from Aidan (not meeting potential clients in the Bistro would be a good start). Rita comes in and wants to see Adam. She wants to invoke the buy back clause that was added into the sale of the flat as she changed her mind. (No I do not remember the clause being inserted either - poor continuity or poor memory - please tell me). Todd goes to get a copy of the contract. Rita heads off to Norris's drinks do. Todd finds the buy back clause expired today after Rita has gone.

In the Rovers Gemma is on her dating app. There are 35 hot men close by - one of whom, Niall, walks into the bar and her phone goes off to say she has a match. So does his. Angie has a g&t and Mary makes a snotty remark over her drinking mother's ruin. Gemma and Niall are getting on well already - but Gemma is buying the drinks! He makes a suggestive joke - but luckily he is not a politician and does not lose his job.

Anna does not yet grasp how her earring came to be inside the solicitors office. She thinks she lost the earring in Phelan's yard when she had another row, it got violent and Pat had her in a head lock. She told Faye she had lost it. She also tells them that as Pat had it he must have planted it in the offices.

After the break the police are listening to Anna's allegation. In all Anna had three arguments that day. The police struggle to believe her story. They terminate the interview and release Anna without charge whilst there are further investigations and she is advised to stay clear of Sebastian Franklin. Anna is released to find Kev, Faye and Gary waiting for her. She tells them that the police do think she had done it.

And Gemma buys the next round. She goes to the toilet. Niall gets a call and is boasting about his conquest being a dog. Jude and Peter hear him. They tell Gemma that he is a nasty piece of work. Peter says he will get rid of Niall. Which he does by telling him he is unwanted and then manhandling him out of the Rovers.

Mary is spreading her belief about Angie to Dev. Rita arrives from the Barlow legal practice and Rita has changed her mind over selling the flat. She gives Johnny a replacement bottle of whisky for the one which got consumed at the party.

Peter is pulling Niall outside when the police arrive. PC Heywood jumps out of the car immediately by for some god forsaken and unbelievable reason Craig sits still until the clock moves to 36 rather than 35. This is stupid. Niall gets it away on his toes and if the police are this stupid I am not surprised. Craig goes to take a statement.

Gary finds Nicola's flat and he wants to talk to her. I have no idea how he knows where she lives. The deed was done at Eileen's as I recall and she then moved to her new flat. Gary has decided that he will not be involved and thinks Nicola should have a termination. She rightly tells him to get out and stands aside. He promises that one day she will realise that having an abortion was the right thing. Nicola responds that if he goes near her again she will take out a page in the paper announcing the father of her baby.

Ken toasts Norris for a long and happy retirement, using Shakespeare's words. Adam arrives to let Rita that it is too late to change her mind over the flat. She accepts it reluctantly.

With Faye out of the way Anna goes off on one with Kev who has to ask if her story is true. She tells him it is not over because of the earring - she explains the events. Kev cannot understand why she had been at Phelan's yard and that she was in a fight with him. Kev struggles to understand and she can see that Kev does not believe her.

Norris is heading homeward - they all go for haddock and chips. Jenny assures Rita she can stay for as long as she likes (but Rita knows from earlier than Johnny would like her gone). Rita assures Jenny she will not outstay her welcome. Rita says she will soon move on.

Peter serves Todd and Adam and the latter thinks about talking to Colin. Todd suggests changing both contracts to show a revised date. Todd knows it is fraudulent.

Gary is talking to Sarah who asks him if he wants any more children. She admits Gail asked. Gary does not want any more kids and nor does Sarah apparently.

Anna is still shouting at Kev. She shouts at him until he asks if she pushed Seb off the ladder and then will not talk to him for even thinking that she could. She storms off to bed.

Roll credits.

I will not be here next Friday as ITV will be showing a football match. We are not sure when we will catch up again just yet.

I never did quite buy Anna and Kev as a couple. And the whole relationship has been poorly depicted. Nothing against either performer - but the material they have been given is s***.

And talking of more s*** this imposition of (I am guessing OCD) on poor Craig without rhyme, reason or development is simply nonsense.

Kate cut the crap, bring back some heart warming comedy and cheer us up. Managing our favourite continuing drama is a tightrope, please do not push too many nasty monsters at us (and get rid of Colin please). The OCD and Chesney's recent "disorder" plus Gary's alleged stress problem have all been created out of nothing and have not been properly developed, explained and resolved. Mental illness was done well with Steve, so leave it out please.

Finally in the words of Mrs Dale I remain very worried about Emily Bishop or should that be Eileen Derbyshire?

Monday 6 November

Aidan is shaving in almost darkness, when Alya calls him. He arranges to meet her in 20 minutes.

Meanwhile Faye sees her mother in the street. Faye was concerned that she didn't come home last night. Anna confirms she stayed with Izzy, She said she had had a row with Kevin, and then coincidentally Kev comes round the corner, Anna tells him that they will talk later.

Adam goes round to see Colin saying that Rita has had a change of heart and wants the shop back. He is not having it, and says she signed on the dotted line.

Sinead comes in from her first day at work at Freshco's. The family want to know how she got on. She is stacking loo rolls on the shelves.

Back in the solicitors office, Adam comes back and tells Todd that Colin isn't wanting to help. They suggest to go for Plan B. They ask Rosie to be a "little bit naughty".

Sally is showing Seb around the house, and he can help himself to anything he wants. He talks with Faye, and she says that Anna has had a row with Kevin. Sally then confesses to Seb and Faye that it was her that rang Social Services.

Moira comes into the Kabin and buys some sweets. Rosie then comes in and looks at the magazines and says it is hot, and takes off her jacket, revealing a crop top. Colin looks 'interested', so she suggests to him that they could go for a drink in the Rovers.

Rita is doing her make-up, and chatting to Gemma . Gemma finds a letter from the factory insurance company. They have paid out £80,000. Rita says Jenny had said that the money hasn't come through and she wouldn't lie. Gemma says then somebody is lying.

In the Rovers, Kevin is looking despondent staring into his beer glass. Toyah tries to cheer him up, but he just walks out. Sally and Moira come in and order the same drinks and are both wearing the same jacket.

Rosie and Colin are drinking and she suggests he takes his jacket off. (A lot of jacket removing tonight!).

Peter remarks about Sally and Moira looking similar wearing the same jacket, and wonders if they are twins! (neither remove their jackets!) Sally says her jacket came from a top quality shop. Mary says Moira's is a better cut. Mary invites Toyah and Peter round for a meal, saying she has arranged with Sean to cover at the Rovers.

In the kebab shop, Gemma gives Chesney a teddy to give to Joseph. Then coincidentally Sinead comes in with Joseph. Gemma then tells everyone about the insurance cheque. Aidan is also in the shop pretends he knew about it.

Faye wonders why Seb isn't talking to her. He says he is "dirty". She doesn't consider so, but he is concerned what may happen if the condom split again.

Adam and Todd break into the Kabin.

Johnny and Jenny are chatting in the Bistro. On another table Rita and Audrey are looking at a holiday brochure. Then Beth and Izzy come in and ask Johnny if it is true that the money has come through. He says he was about to tell Jenny. Johnny explains that he doesn't want to start up the business again. He just wants to spend the rest of his life with Jenny in Spain.

Todd and Adam are going through the Kabin's papers and find the lease. They are about to swop it with a doctored one when Colin comes in, and threatens to ring the police.

So what will happen? Will Weatherfield's 'finest' come and investigate? Will Kevin and Anna get back together? Will the staff get their share of the insurance money? Next episode coming your way soon.

Martin Rosen

This is episode 9294. The writer for this episode was Jonathan Harvey and the director was Gill Wilkinson. Copyright remains the property of ITV whom to whom many thanks and they have re-instated the subtitles so that I can listen to Mike Brown @CHBNRadio whilst doing the update.

Colin has caught Adam and Todd in the act of trying to switch contracts on Rita's flat. He threatens them with the Law Society but Adam has found paperwork showing the Colin has a number of employees - he was siphoning off four wages into his pocket. Adam asks Colin to sell the flat back to Rita in exchange for his silence over the fake employees.

At the Bistro Jenny and Johnny are celebrating retirement and ask Beth and Izzy to join them in a drink. Beth and Izzy hope the drinks choke them and stomp out. Audrey and Rita share the drinks however. Jenny assures everyone that she might be a natural red-head but she is one of those who likes some sun. She is going trikini shopping. Aidan comes dashing in as he has heard the good news that the insurance claim has come through - he is so happy. Johnny breaks the not so good news - he is retiring and is taking the money to fund him in Spain (don't know about you but I am not sure £80k will go far in Spain these days). Aidan is thunderstruck. Jenny and Johnny resume their meal.

Much later Aidan storms back to the couple and tells Johnny he is mad. Rita and Audrey leave before it turns ugly. Aidan accuses Johnny of being selfish. He asks Johnny to think of him for a moment - if he can turn the factory around then perhaps he can turn their relationship around. Johnny reminds Aidan how he got them into Underworld in the first place - because Aidan stole the money from him to invest. Jenny tells the departing pair that she was going to offer ice creams and programmes in a minute. Johnny continues at Aidan that he is responsible for paying for all of Aidan's mistakes. Jenny tries to calm them down but Aidan turns on her saying she is behind all this (she is a gold-digger remember). Aidan is sure she will bleed Johnny dry and then leave him half dead. Johnny pushes Aidan away from the table trying to get him to stop. Aidan swings wildly and hard landing a huge blow on Johnny and the latter crashes to the ground. Aidan leaves and Johnny holds the left side of his face.

Mary, Dev, Peter and Toyah have gathered for a dinner party (where is Gina?). Jude and Angie arrive with only a single bottle of wine. Clearly they are not drinkers, people always turn up here with either two bottles or some beer as well! Toyah turns down a crab stick croquette reminding us that she is still a veggie so gets a cheesy ball for her efforts. Mary makes Angie feel bad for bringing a bottle of wine anywhere near the recovering alcoholic called Peter. {Mary he is living in a pub!!!}. Peter says he does not have a problem being around alcohol. Turns out that Toyah had brought wine - Mary had assumed it was grape juice (which it sort of is ...). There is lemon-infused water on the table.

Joseph is kicking the washing machine and being difficult upsetting Beth who is cautioned by Sinead. Joseph goes upstairs and Sinead finds the washing machine is no longer working. Beth tells her that the namby pamby approach with Joseph is not working. Beth tells her that it takes time to learn to be a mother. She calls Fiz to ask to use her dryer.

Kev goes into the cafe to ask Anna to come home - Sally is in there. Kev just wants to sort things out with Anna, but she refuses to live with anyone who could believe she deliberately hurt Seb. She accuses him of playing into Phelan's plans - but he points he that she cannot leave him out of any conversation. They argue until Anna asks Sally what she is staring at! She and Sally argue as well! And she glares at Kevin.

Seb is at Sally's with Faye who plans to get him to kiss her eventually. Seb meanwhile does not believe that Anna can have hurt him as it does not make any sense. Faye suggests that he lies so the police drop the case. Sally returns an tells Seb that he must not lie to the police (in the heat of her recent argument) as it will be seen as Anna coercing him and that could make it worse for Anna in the long run. Faye does not believe Anna would be capable of hurting Seb and for what it is worth nor does Sally. But changing his story could make it worse for Anna.

At the dinner party Jude is explaining his work. Mary claims it comes from her studying tadpoles turning into frogs when at school. (Mary is simply overdoing it). Dev is uncomplimentary about Asha and Aadi's school play. Peter sympathizes, saying he was drunk for most of Simon's performances. Mary of course missed Jude's shows. Apparently Jude and Angie met at a theatre. It leads back to alcohol which gets Mary saying sub voce to Dev that Angie is fixated on alcohol. Mary then asks Peter how he realised he had a drink problem and how much did he drink every day? Dev changes the subject and wants Mary to help get something from the kitchen. Mary is convinced that she can get Angie to come out as an alcoholic. Dev does not seem convinced.

Chesney returns to find Sinead and Beth dealing with the wet clothes they have taken out of the washing machine and he is told in no uncertain terms to get it fixed. Sinead admits Joseph was hitting the dial. Sinead repeats that Beth wants them to be tougher with Joseph. Chesney refuses to accept Beth's guidance.

Anna returns to Kev's. She does not want a brew. She tells him two things - firstly she has only returned home for Faye and if Kev does not believe then she knows she cannot convince the police. She is going to have a bath.

At home Johnny refuses to see a doctor. And he cannot believe his own son thumped him. Anyway Johnny assures Jenny she will not need to have anything to do with Aidan in future.

Aidan is in the Rovers where he hopes Colin has turned Adam and Todd over to the police as he saw them break in earlier. Colin has simply no idea what Aidan is talking about. Rita and Audrey are spreading the news that the factory will not re-open. Colin goes over to Rita and asks for a word. Colin says he has changed his mind about the flat - he does not like her taste - so perhaps she would like to buy it back. Rita thinks he is joking - but no Colin is serious. Rita thanks him very much as she accepts. Audrey thinks it is a bit fishy but Sean behind the bar says that might be him as he has just had a bag of scampi fries!

Colin goes to talk to Moira. He asks her if she would like to join him in the Bistro as he does not want people looking at him strangely and she agrees immediately.

Aidan goes into the solicitor's office where Rosie is checking something and he starts looking for papers. He finds the illegal amended contracts. She twats him around the ear, throws her drink over him and before he can recover she has grabbed and shredded the contracts. Well done Rosie.

Billy and Summer are returning from a visit to Drew's grave when they meet an angry Aidan come the other way. Billy sends Summer up to the flat. Aidan cannot believe a man of the cloth can turn a blind eye to this. Billy asks to what? Todd's everyday immoral and criminal activities. What has he been doing asks Billy. Breaking and entering, forgery at least - he has seen forged contracts which have been shredded. Todd has got away with it but one day Billy will be visiting him in prison.

Toyah and Peter are leaving early as Sean needs relieving. Angie raises her glass in a farewell gesture. Then she suggests to Jude a quick drink the Rovers before they release the baby sitter. Jude wants a couple of minutes with Mary so Angie goes. Mary sits down and lifts a huge wine glass to her mouth. Jude tells her she missed nothing with his school performances. Quivering Palm Tree 4 in Joseph. And a store detective in the Nativity (sorry my brain does not compute this one). She assures him his happiness is all the concerns her now.

In the flat Billy is having a drink when Todd returns, claiming an eventful day. Billy's mention of Aidan leads Todd to declare that whatever is alleged he did it for the right reasons. Billy says it all feels toxic. Billy never used to row all the time and wondering what was going to go wrong next. He does not recognise the world - and it all changed when Todd came along. Todd apologises and asks if they are mates again and they shake hands. [Reminder Todd used to be pretty bad, then with Billy he got better, Adam is not a good influence]. They kiss.

It is a dark evening outside and Jenny emerges from Dev's with wine. She sees Aidan on Maxeem's bench. She tells him he punched a man with MS and this could bring on an episode and make Johnny's symptoms worse. Aidan says he will come round and sort it out. Jenny tells him not to come anywhere near Johnny. And when Johnny is in a hospital bed it will not be the gold-digger who put him there - it will be the idiot son. She heads back to Victoria Court and leaves Aidan to reflect on his failings.

Roll credits.

Oh come on Ms Oates. All a bit too dark and dismal in this episode. Where's the light alongside the shadows? Where is the gentle humour and if we are going to have northern battleaxes (Sally and Anna) can we have a good Street fight please? I really don't think Aidan would ever hit his father, whatever the provocation.

Todd is turning bad again - clever timing that.

And I fear Mary will go a step too far ere long. (But then I have seen Wednesday evening).

Finally in the words of Mrs Dale I remain very worried about Emily Bishop or should that be Eileen Derbyshire?

Wednesday 8 November

Angie knocks at the door when Mary is cooking breakfast. She wonders if she left a lipstick there last night. Mary says there was one left in the bathroom, and then, full of quite irritating bounce and enthusiasm, asks her if she'd like some scrambled eggs, they might help with her 'wine-head', they got through quite a few bottles last night. Angie says she didn't really drink a lot, but Mary thinks she looks peaky. Angie tells her she didn't get much sleep last night, she just wants her lipstick. As she's trying to leave, Mary asks when she's going to see her grandson again. Angie is sure she will soon, and rushes out of the door.

Outside on the pavement, she's just taking deep breaths when Toyah comes along. Angie asks if she knows why Mary hates her so much, she's implying she's got a drink problem. Angie feels that Mary is constantly hinting that Angie is a bad mother. Toyah suggests they have lunch together later.

Summer is on her way to school. She tells Billy and Todd she hopes they make up their argument before she gets home. When she's gone, Billy tells Todd he should be apologising, but Todd points out that he's not the one who beat up Peter Barlow. Billy tells Todd it was an emotional reaction that he then regretted, and Todd should try honesty sometime. Todd tells him that Aidan has played him, but Billy wonders if it's actually Todd who has played him. As Billy walks off, Todd sees Aidan shuffle out of the factory door looking half asleep, but something in the bin, and shuffle back inside again.

Breakfast time at Chesney's, and he is watching Joseph like a hawk. Poor Joseph is sitting with a plate of toast in front of him, but he's not touching it. Sinead is hoping they're going to get a new washing machine. She then tries offering Joseph something else to eat, cereal maybe? But Joseph doesn't want anything. Beth comes down then, she's running out of clean clothes and hopes they're going to get a new one. Chesney says he'll ask Tyrone if he knows of any second-hand ones.

Outside in the Street, Tyrone is just putting a 'For Sale' notice on his van when Chesney comes along and asks about washing machines. Tyrone does know of one, as it happens, but Chesney will have to collect it and fit it himself, so they arrange to go over with the van at lunch time.

Jenny and Johnny pass Jude with baby George. Jenny thinks he's gorgeous but Jude says she wouldn't say that if he'd kept her awake half the night. As they walk on, Johnny finds a text from Matthew Singh who wants to buy the factory. Johnny thinks he's got a cheek, he's trying to undercut him, but Jenny reckons a buyer is a buyer, and as long as they sell it doesn't matter.

Jude has brought the baby to a delighted Mary to look after while he goes for a job interview at the university. Angie is having a rest, he tells her, and then meeting Toyah at the bistro, she needs a break.

Adam and Todd are in the cafe trying to drum up business for their will writing service. Aidan comes in then, talking loudly on the phone about meeting someone at 12.45 at the bistro, and telling the person on the other end not to worry, he knows how to play the financial advisors. Todd looks over at him and remarks that his shirt looks very crumpled. Aidan asks if he always listens to private conversations. "When I can," admits Todd. Aidan then finds he's 10p short to pay for his coffee, and Todd tells him it's a good job he's seeing a financial advisor. When Aidan has gone, he says he thinks Aidan's day is going to get a whole lot worse, and asks Adam if he fancies lunch at the bistro.

Toyah and Angie are in the bistro, and Angie tells her that she feels that Mary is watching her all the time, and can't wait to pick holes and tell her what to do with George. She feels Mary wants to prove that Angie is a terrible mother. Toyah is sure that Mary is just being very caring – but Angie is afraid she might be right. Michelle comes over then with the drinks – wine for Toyah and orange juice for Angie. Toyah offers words of comfort, she says that every new mother struggles, she used to work on helplines and has had calls at 4 am. Angie says she's exhausted all the time and feels like she can't cope, but she hasn't talked to Jude about it. Toyah thinks she might have post-natal depression. "That's what the doctor said," says Angie.

Aidan and Alya are walking down the Street, he points out Tyrone's van, it could the answer to their delivery problems. He goes over to Tyrone and asks how much he wants for it. Tyrone, not wanting to really sell his beloved van, tells him it's a death trap, the suspension has gone and the brakes need doing, he couldn't sell it to him. Disappointed, Aidan walks away.

Sinead, with Joseph by her side, comes out of the house with a large pile of dirty washing in a flimsy bag. Just near the corner shop, it all falls to the ground as Daniel comes out. He goes over to help her pick it all up, and as it happens he's just bought a roll of bin bags so he helps collect it. He offers to look after Joseph while she takes it to the launderette, he'll take him to the park. Sinead is reluctant, but eventually agrees.

Mary takes George into the florists and asks Tracy if George seems ok to her, he's a bit hot. Just then Moira comes in to buy a large bouquet of flowers. She assumes that George is Mary's, and Mary doesn't correct her. When she's gone, Mary decides that George is definitely getting hotter and rushes out with him.

Back in the bistro, Angie comes out of the loo to find that Toyah has got her a glass of wine, she felt she needed one. Angie tells her she feels ashamed that the can't cope with her own baby, but Toyah says that post natal depression is very common and she has nothing to be ashamed about.

Aidan comes into the bistro just seconds ahead of the financial advisor. They go to sit down.

Mary has taken baby George over to Dev's, sure that something isn't right. Dev tells her to go and get Angie out of the bistro, so he takes the baby while she rushes over there.

In the bistro, Alya has joined Aidan and the financial advisor and they're talking about their business plans.

Mary rushes in and tells Angie that George is hot and crying, so Angie jumps up and says she's going to take him straight to the hospital. Mary points out that she's been drinking but Angie says she's had less than half a glass and goes out of the door. Toyah tells Mary that it's true. "That you've seen!" snaps Mary, and runs out behind Angie.

Todd and Aidan come in then, and sit down near Aidan and Alya's table. Then Todd calls across and asks if he doesn't need an address to get a bank loan? Adding that he seems to be sleeping in the factory. Alya is shocked, this is obviously news to her. "So where are you living now?" asks the financial guy.

Daniel, Sinead and Joseph are in the park, and Sinead thanks Daniel for looking after Joseph. Daniel remarks that Joseph doesn't say much, and Sinead tells him he hasn't spoken since he arrived. Daniel is sympathetic, he knows what it's like when mum is suddenly not there. Sinead is worried that Joseph hates her. Daniel looks at her and smiles. "Who could hate you?" he asks. Sinead then calls to Joseph, asking if he wants something to eat. Joseph ignores her. Daniel then asks him the same question in Portuguese and Joseph answers him in Portuguese. Yes, he's hungry. Sinead looks at Daniel with admiration as he explains that he once studied a Portuguese writer. Sinead thinks Chesney will be really pleased (doubtful I think!) and Daniel takes Joseph by the hand and they walk out of the park together.

Johnny and Jenny are showing their potential buyer round the factory, but when he goes looking round the office he's shocked to find a sleeping bag and some clothing on the floor. "Looks like you've got tenants," he says, adding that they could cause problems. Johnny says they'll get rid of them, once he confirms an offer they'll get security. Mr Singh isn't too sure, he says he'll think about it. When he's gone, Johnny looks at the things and realises they're Aidan's.

Chesney and Tyrone are struggling out of a property with a washing machine. Tyrone thinks they should put handles on these things to make carrying them easier. Just then, Chesney looks down the road and sees Daniel with Sinead and Joseph, and he's not happy. He marches over to them. "Daddy!" says Joseph. "What's all this then?" Chesney demands to know.

Angie is strapping George into his car seat when Mary rushes up and tells her she can't let her drive. Angie protests that she's had 2 sips of wine. Mary says she knows she's got an alcohol problem. Angie is angry and says she doesn't have time for this right now, and gets in the car and drives off. Dev comes out of the shop as Mary pulls out her phone and calls the police to report a drink-driver!

This is episode 9296. The writer this evening was Ellen Taylor and the director was Abe Juckes. Copyright remains the property of ITV to whom many thanks. In the absence of a real person to write this update you should be aware that this update originally appeared on Corriepedia at http://coronationstreet.wikia.com/wiki/Episode_9296_(8th_November_2017), reposted here with permission from the site.

Chesney is forced to thank Daniel when Sinead shows him how he got Joseph to speak by explaining that Joseph is only willing to respond to Portuguese and is simply ignoring English. Lucky Daniel who knew 2 sentences of the language. However Chesney has upset Sinead in the process by not believing her.

In the Bistro Alya steps in and tells Mark the banker that Aidan is living with her. The sniping from Todd and Adam on the next table has not been overly helpful so perhaps they will all learn that business meetings in the Bistro do not work. After a mollified Mark has gone, Alya suggests Aidan moves in with grandmother Yasmeen to give him a permanent address. Yasmeen subsequently agrees to Aidan moving in with her, Cathy, Zeedan and Rana, so that will all be a bit crowded - Aidan gets the sofa. Obviously Yasmeen is responsible for waifs and strays now, not Eileen.

Angie is stopped by the police as she is driving George to the hospital who have had a report of drink / driving. When Dev and Mary arrive in Dev's car, a furious Angie realises who reported her. Mary accuses her of drinking and will not listen to her story of only having had a couple of sips of wine. Angie's breath test shows she is well under the limit. Then Angie calls Mary a "desperate cow", threatening that she'll never see her grandson again before heading off at speed to the hospital a good 30 minutes wasted.

Aidan lets slip to Fiz that Tyrone told him that the van is a death trap. Fiz is not amused tells Aidan he can trial the van for twenty-four hours and if there are no problems he can buy it. Mark the banker wanted to know how transport would happen for the new business.

Kirk and Chesney bring the washing machine to No.5 but it's dropped on Kirk's foot. Also when they get it to the kitchen it does not fit the space of the old one (and despite what we all think they are not all the same size - I know). So Beth has another go at Chesney for hurting Kirk and for not making sure it was the right size before buying it.

Sinead tries to learn Portuguese from the web, angering Chesney who tells her that Joseph needs to learn English so that he can fit in at school and with the others of his age on the Street.

In the Rovers Mary remains convinced that Angie is hiding something but Dev tells her she is wrong and that she should apologise profusely. Mary tries to contact Angie but she doesn't return her calls. Toyah drops hints to Mary that she should be kinder to Angie. Doctor Toyah did earlier diagnose post - natal depression (probably due to leaving South Africa) but maintains her doctor patient confidentiality and does not explain why Mary needs to be kinder.

Aidan apologises to Johnny for punching him when they meet in the factory from where Aidan is removing his belongings. However they immediately fall out again when Aidan criticizes Jenny for her involvement in Johnny's decisions and especially when he hears that Matthew Singh is potentially buying the factory.

In Preston's Petals Chesney is going to buy some flowers to apologise to Sinead for his earlier behaviour but Tracy tells Chesney that he lets everyone walk over him. She waxes lyrical on the subject. He listens to Tracy and agrees with her, leaving her with unsold flowers as he decides to act on her guidance. (Why would anyone listen to Tracy I ask myself?).

At Dev's a furious Jude arrives and he will not listen to Mary's protestations that something is wrong with Angie, even if she is not an alcoholic. Jude tells her Mary she is twisted and a freak and to stay away from his family. Mary breaks down.

As he moves the van Todd sees Aidan and assumes he has bought it, knowing it was for sale, but Aidan does not see Todd.

Aidan tries to hurt Todd by yelling at Summer that her guardian's a failure.

Chesney has had enough of Beth's complaints about the crowded house plus her wanting to be tougher in their handling of Joseph. Chesney tells Beth and Kirk to leave the house and to take Craig with them.

Jude having left, Dev comforts a sobbing Mary - he realises she has overstepped the mark.

Late in the evening a hooded figure approaches Tyrone's van which is on loan to Aidan; the hooded figure sets fire to the van. As the figure walks away we see the hood come down and we can see that it is Todd who has done the deed.

Friday 10 November

No Corrie tonight.

Monday 13 November

There was no Corrie last Friday (10 Nov), as ITV decided to show a lot of men kicking a ball around instead!

So onto tonight's episode, where we start with Sophie who is out on a run, and she spots and smells the burnt out van.

Billy and Todd are sleepless in bed. Billy accuses Todd of tossing and turning.

Kirk is walking his dog, Peanut, and is talking to him. He says he doesn't blame Chesney for them being homeless.

Michelle gets Daniel to help unload a van. It is champagne Michelle suggests to Daniel that they could have a 'do' to celebrate Robert coming home. Tracy overhears and says if her and Robert were still married today would have been their 21st wedding anniversary. and the last thing he would want is a 'do'.

Kirk is still talking to Peanut, when Maria calls out of the window inviting him to come up to discuss their housing problem.

The doorbell rings at Billy and Todd's place. Todd gets up and sees the police outside. Summer comes into their bedroom to say the police are at the door.

Roy gives Fiz and Tyrone with the kids, a free breakfast. Tyrone feels embarrassed that they don't need free food. Fiz tells him that the kids have got long Christmas lists. Fiz wants to sort out the Crowdfunding page. Todd says he will see Aidan to discuss it.

The police come into see Todd and Billy. The policewoman arrests Billy on suspicion of robbery.

Roy seems to think Fizz is troubled. They talk about the Crowdfunding, and he tells her there is no moral impropriety. There are two options he explains.. Either spending it on Hope or dividing it up amongst her colleagues. It would have been better if she told everybody in the first place.

Dev and Mary are in the cafe. She wants to make sure George is okay, but Dev warns her against it. Roy asks Mary how George is, but she says she doesn't know, and is trying to give them some space.

Todd and Summer go round to Aidan and Daniel's and tell them about Billy's arrest. Todd thinks he will start confessing to everything even though he is innocent. Summer wants to get involved, but they want her to go to school.

Cathy and Yasmeen are talking about Aidan being a pocket dumper, a person who cannot keep things in his pockets and puts everything on a table. There is a knock on the door and Tyrone rushes in to say the van has been burnt out.

At the police station, Billy is being interviewed about the robbery in 2001. He says he has no idea about it.

Daniel tells Summer it is probably a misunderstanding. As he is walking down the Street he bumps into Sinead coming out of the house. They go off their separate ways; Summer asks what is happening between them, he says "nothing".

Joseph sees the burnt out van and thinks it has been in a crash. Sinead tells him it has just been burnt. Sinead then tells him that she was in a crash once. She tells him he can talk about anything he wants.

There is a delay with the interview at the police station, the police officer says they are waiting for his solicitor, and then Adam walks in. He advises Billy not to say anything. He advises him to say nothing but his name, address and date of birth.

Michelle brings Robert back in the car, while Tracy looks on from across the road.

Sinead is talking to Joseph while Chesney is watching them. He says she is very good with him.

Beth sees Chesney and tells Tracy that she is living at Maria's.

Dev tells Chesney that his offer for the chip shop has been accepted. Chesney offers to manage both shops.

In the cafe Beth and Izzy chatting. Izzy says that she hasn't got a job. Roy mentions the crowdfunding money and then realises that they obviously don't know anything about it.

The police are interviewing Billy asking why his fingerprints were found on a burnt out car in 2001.

So will Billy be send 'down'? Will Fiz confess about the Crowdfunding money? Richard will be along shortly, however, just before the second part starts there is an ad for the Nationwide Building Society - in Welsh! Corrie is transmitted all through the UK. Wales accounts for 4.8% of the UK population, and a Survey in 2004 showed that only 21.7% of the population of Wales speak Welsh! I wonder why they showed such a niche ad ?

Martin Rosen

This is episode 9298. The writer for this episode was Owen Lloyd-Fox and the director was Abe Juckes. Copyright remains the property of ITV to whom many thanks. When this episode was transmitted I was in Birmingham walking to the Arena for Blondie who was due on stage at 9pm according to the Arena's email. So when we arrived at 8:50 pm and found she had been on stage since 8:30 pm we were not happy. This update has therefore been crafted with assistance from the ITV Hub which is more reliable than the management of the Arena.

We open at the police station (is it me or has Corrie decided to become a police procedural recently?) where AQfter a 30 minute wait Billy, looking troubled, manages to utter a "No comment" to the question posed by the policewoman 30 minutes ago. Billy gets stuck in now and "No comment" is his mantra. She really would like to know how his fingerprints appeared on a burnt out car in 2001. He manages another "No comment" when asked to identify the burnt out wreck. (Beyond belief really two burnt out vehicles in one week!).

At the Rovers Toyah has delivered a brew to Angie who has come in with George. Angie is starting to wonder if Mary is right about her being an alcoholic. Apparently the hospital do not know what is wrong with George (over anxious mother and grand mother is my diagnosis). There will be tests and once they have the results they might have a better idea. Angie has not spoken to Jude about her Toyah diagnosed depression. Angie reckons it will make her seem even more of a failure.

In the other booth Fiz joins Sinead, Izzy and Beth; she is late because of the torched van. Beth is not sympathetic. Beth accuses Fiz of scamming the money out of the crowdfunding based on Roy's earlier comments. As the row develops, Dev joins Sophie and Rosie who are listening with interest. Toyah asks them to behave and then when they continue she and Angie go into the back room. Beth wants it straight. She setup the crowdfunding and organised the website and suggested using Hope's story (without Fiz's approval). And yet Fiz is not sharing the cash she received directly. Fiz defends her corner as it was received direct and the eaves droppers are listening very carefully. Beth says it was all her hard work. Sinead says others helped. She accuses Fiz of stealing and she is as selfish as Chesney which Sinead finds objectionable. Beth calls Fiz a liability, a thief and she is glad the van got torched.

At Victoria Flats Robert and Michelle are half dressed and he is opening the post which contains the contract making Michelle a full partner in the Bistro. She is not interested and drags him back to bed for more.

At the police station a waiting Todd overhears a police officer being sent out on a lead connected to the burnt out van. Adam and Billy emerge - the latter looks pretty shell shocked and head back to the Street.

Tracy is in a corner of the Bistro and she tells Daniel that she is meeting a supplier and would like another pinot please (It was red). Michelle introduces the new "silver fox" - Robert's hair has gone silver during his incarceration. Kate says the new hair is great but Daniel points out her straight crush is Philip Sheffield (for our overseas readers he is a morning TV presenter notable for having gone suddenly gray a few years ago). Zeedan observes that online reviews have been really hot whilst the chef has been away, although Kate reckons Zeedan is writing them! Zeedan says it has been quiet in the kitchen without Robert throwing his temper tantrums. (Throughout Rana is beside Zeedan looking very happy). They toast his release and Robert makes his big announcement; there is a new partner in the business; there will be a refit and the new name will be Robert and Michelle's Bistro - well it won't - but they will be finding a new name (how about Street Saloon?). He then turns to Michelle and tells her to get on with work - he expects a partner to pull her weight! Tracy is watching all of this carefully.

Fiz has left the pub and is chased across the Street by Beth, Sinead and Izzy (who has to go to the end of the Street and down the slope and back up the other side). They stop outside Sally's. Rosie has been summoned back to work and Dirk (not Kirk) and Sophie are told to keep a record and tell her later what is going on. Some police arrive on the Street as Fiz brings Ty up to date on Beth's allegations. Fiz accuses Beth of firing the van - but Beth is not standing for that sort of dirt spreading - she tells Fiz she ought to know what real dirt spreading is like and grabs some of Sal's flowers and earth and hurls it all at Fiz who responds in kind. And the two launch themselves at each other - but the fight comes to an early end as the police intervene and pull them apart. Dev wants to know if it qualifies as mud wrestling.

In Billy's flat Adam asks Todd if he did torch Aidan's van and Todd is non-committal but will get his story straight before talking to the police. Adam goes and Billy emerges looking very shame faced. Billy says it was no mistake that he was arrested and admits he did do something. Before Billy can admit his problem Todd insists on telling him that he torched Aidan's van and he believes the police know. Todd explains Aidan shouting the odds in front of Summer so he lost it. Todd says he wanted to make Aidan suffer. So he knows he is not worthy of Summer. Billy admits he has done far worse.

After the break Billy tells his story which dates back to when he broke up with Drew. Billy took it badly (although he reconciled with Drew later). At the same time his father re-appeared in his life. Billy dropped out of University and ran out of money so his father asked him to return home. Billy hit his father who wanted Billy to admit it was "just a phase he had gone through" and his father then walked away from him. Despite no money Billy started drinking heavily and hanging out with "these idiots". They would go out looking for fights and Billy loved it. It made him feel proud of himself as he could not be touched. He then tells Todd that Todd does not really know Billy. He never has. The bad lads Billy was hanging around were on the rob, shop lifting them cars; one acquired a replica gun and decided to rob a petrol station (ahh that is why they want the cashless society). Billy was in favour as he was getting a huge buzz from the adrenalin - they stood outside and he put a mask on then it all went pear shaped as the gun was not a replica so as they went in, he shot out a window (the other bloke fired - not Billy).

No-one hurt but Billy remembers the terrifying sound. The 18 year old girl cashier was very scared, Billy had never seen anyone look so scared. Billy knew he should have walked away but he got in the car and they all drove off. The driver was off his face and they were swerving all over the place. They got too close to one car, it swerved and it crashed - he looked back and it looked like a twisted heap of metal. No-one could have survived. Billy cries; it was a woman driver with a passenger. Billy urged the driver to drive away from the accident, saying there was nothing they could do - which he now accepts was a lie. Billy did not want to look back any more as he was so scared. They drove away.

Over at the Bistro Daniel has noticed that Tracy's meeting has not happened. She has to admit to Daniel that she has come in to check up on Robert on their anniversary. She sarcastically says she is full of jealousy for ex, now an ex-con. She is not amused at being rumbled.

R'Toyota shows Jude through into the back room of the Rovers. Angie admits to Jude she is not OK and does not know why. She admits she is not coping, she is depressed and needs help (perhaps Mary could help by looking after George?). Jude agrees to help. They hug.

Robert is working through paperwork in the Bistro office. Michelle joins him and he is pleased - the takings are up in his absence. He is not needed! Michelle says they have been stretched and he is needed. Michelle particularly needs him - he asks for more recovery time! They snog.

Fiz and Ty are pulling earth out of their hair and clothes as they take a drink the Rovers. Fiz is complaining about Beth and what she called her. Fix is particularly pleased with the way she hit Beth with a pansy. Ty has never been more proud. They both laugh. Ty asks if Fiz wants to share the insurance money when it arrives. Fiz says they are thought to be selfish - so they might as well keep the money and have some fun with it.

Billy explains to Todd the police took his fingerprints when he confessed he had beaten up Peter and cold case review had matched his prints with ones on the car which was torched after the accident. The car has been linked to the robbery but not to the accident. Billy has said nothing. He lied, just as he has done for 16 years.

Chesney returns home. Joseph is talking English. Chesney tells Sinead he has additional responsibilities running "Prima Chips" but Sinead does not think he has the time to do it. They need the money to cover the loss of rent from Beth and Kirk. Sinead is worried that if Chesney is doing two jobs he will have no time for her for Joseph. Chesney says he will be in and out and to prove it he is off for a couple of hours to discuss plans with Dev. Sinead has to put her special Bolognese in the oven to keep warm for him. And Joseph does not like Bolognese!

Todd and Billy agree not to tell Summer until they have talked through all these problems. Todd notes that Billy is pretty good at lying. On cue Summer returns and Billy says it was a case of mistaken identity. Summer senses something is wrong - but they both deny it. Was Daniel all right Todd asks? Summer responds that hanging out with a nerd from weird family was odd as they have nothing in common. She then notes with relief that at least the two adults are talking to each other again. Billy is afraid he will go down. Todd says he will not leave them. Todd assures Billy they will get through this together. Billy just cries.

Roll credits.

This was rather more sensible than some episodes recently. I suppose I have to accept Michelle and Robert as an item.

Chesney really needs to be careful. Daniel is still around.

Now we know why Billy had to beat up Peter. So that he would have to give fingerprints.

And we could have had more of the Beth and Fiz Street fight - a good old fashioned scrap -ages since we have had one of those!

Finally in the words of Mrs Dale I remain very worried about Emily Bishop or should that be Eileen Derbyshire?

KRW

Wednesday 15 November

Eileen and Pat arrive back from their holiday, but before they can get in the front door, Shona comes over and tells them that there's been a fire at the house that Pat was supposedly doing up. They start asking her questions, but she says they should speak to Todd, he knows more about it.

Michelle and Robert are enjoying their first breakfast together since his release. He's in some pain, but tells her it's fine.

Eileen has gone round to Todd's, and asks him why he didn't ring her. He says he didn't want to spoil her holiday. She tells him Pat is round there now, sorting it out. It was supposed to be their dream home. She then asks where Billy is, and is told he's still in bed. Summer then informs her that he's worn out because yesterday he got arrested for robbery! Todd tells Eileen that it was a cock-up by the police, although Summer says it's a pity because it would have been cool to tell her friends that he was a robber when he wasn't being a vicar. Todd isn't amused and tells her to go and get ready for school.

Fiz and Tyrone and the children come out of the house. Ty tells Kevin as they're not busy at the garage, he's going to take the children to school and then they're going shopping. Beth comes by then and makes nasty remarks about them using the crowd-funding money that belongs to all of them.

Anna comes out of the shop and tells Kevin she's going to ask Roy if she can go back to work. He points out that she's going to get some flack from some people and asks if she'd like him to go with her. She snaps at him that she doesn't, then goes into her house and seems upset.

Todd comes back in to the flat to find Billy is now out of bed. He apologises and says he overslept as he'd been awake half the night. Todd tells him to stop dwelling on it, and then reminds him that the social worker is calling this afternoon. Billy says he wanted to go to the church and pray for guidance, but Todd reckons they need to be doing more, they need to go and see Adam and find out where they stand legally, and tells him he's had all night to pray.

Over in the bistro, Zeedan tells Rana he's going to stay at Alya's overnight, as it's bad luck to see the bride on the morning of the wedding. She points out that they're already married, this is just a civil ceremony, her dad can't even be there. He points out that their friends will be there, like Kate. He then asks if she's sorted out the trouble between them. Rana looks uncomfortable and asks what it has to do with him. He says he wants them all to get on, everyone is talking about it. Rana says it's fine, and leaves in a hurry.

Billy and Todd are over at the solicitor's office, talking to Adam. Billy says he didn't know it was a real gun and assures him no one got hurt. They left the car on some waste ground and ran off. Adam is sure it'll be fine, it was 17 years ago, his face was covered, there was no CCTV, no one could identify him. Billy is worried about the fingerprints on the car. Adam says that as they were on the outside he could have walked past the car and brushed against it, and provided no other evidence turns up, they can't prove anything. He asks if Billy has told him absolutely everything. Billy sighs and then says yes.

Anna goes into the cafe and asks Roy for her job back, she knows she did wrong, hitting Seb, but swears that she did not push him off the ladder. Roy hesitates, worried about what other people might think. She pleads with him, and Kevin comes in behind her and points out that she's had three weeks off, that's time enough for the dust to settle. Eventually Roy gives in and says ok. Anna gets straight behind the counter.

Eileen and Shona come in and Eileen tells Roy that the house that Pat was doing up has burnt down. Pat is at the police station now.

Over at the police station, they tells Pat that it was arson. He seems surprised, and asks if they're sure. They ask how long he's been away, and he tells them 2 weeks. He asks if they have any idea who might have done it, and the police officer shows him some CCTV of two youths running down the road in the dark, apparently half an hour before the fire brigade was called. She then tells him that it looked like someone had been living rough in the cellar, and asks if he'd had any problems with squatters. He tells her that he stayed there occasionally, as he was doing the house up, which seems to satisfy her. Then, just when Pat thinks this interview is over, he's told that another police officer would like to talk to him about another, serious matter, and is asked to stay put.

A detective has come into the room and starts asking Pat questions about Seb, he says he's trying to build a picture of what happened the day he was injured. He asks where Pat was at the time, and Pat says he was on his way to do a plumbing job. Pat tells him he'd seen Seb earlier in the cafe, having a row with Anna, who slapped him. He said Seb was humiliated and left, and Pat paid his bill, and didn't see him again that day. The detective then asks if he'd seen Anna Windass later that day, did she go to his builder's yard? Pat says she didn't, and goes on to say that he thinks Anna is unhinged.

Adam is in the bistro, typing on his laptop. (Why? When his office is just across the road?) Daniel is immediately interested and tries to see what Adam is doing. He shuts the laptop quickly, but does tell Daniel that a pillar of the community has a secret past.

Zeedan asks Kate if she can put up some speakers and fairy lights at home for the wedding party. Kate tells him that Rana doesn't want a fuss, but Zee wants to make it special for her. Eventually she agrees.

Tyrone and Fiz are walking down the ginnel with a big box, they've bought the children a trampoline, but are trying to get it home without everyone seeing. Just then, who should come the other way but Beth! She tells them they owe Maria 50 quid, because she and Kirk are eating her out of house and home, and it's Fiz's fault they can't pay their way. She hands Fiz a list, that's what they owe Maria for. Fiz looks at it. "Three tubs of ice-cream?" she says. Beth tells her that Kirk needs his treats, he's a growing lad. She then tells Fiz she's going to get the serious fraud squad on to them. "Bring it on!" says Fiz.

Back in the bistro, Daniel and Zeedan are talking about exercise and keeping in shape. Robert joins in and it ends up with him and Daniel arranging to have a race to the Red Rec and back, twice. Roy then comes in and books a table for five for 6pm.

The social worker has arrived to see Todd and Billy, and she asks how it's going with Summer. They tell her they're loving it, and she's settled in. The social worker asks about Peter Barlow, have they had any further contact. They tell her they see him all the time, but it's not a problem, and Billy adds that he's just waiting to be sentenced. Just at that moment Summer comes in through the door and hears this last bit. "So you are in trouble?" she says, and a shocked and embarrassed Billy tries to laugh it off. The social worker asks Summer what she means, and Summer tells her that Billy got arrested for robbery. "I tell all my friends he's a gangster, they think it's great," she grins.

In a back alley somewhere, Pat meets the two youths who were seen running away from the house. He pays them, as they did what he had told them to do, but tells them they were caught on CCTV, although the images were a bit fuzzy, he advises them to keep their heads down for a bit. "This never happened, ok?" he says. They nod and ride off on their bikes. Pat pulls out his phone and calls Eileen and tells her the police think it was arson, and he's been in touch with a loss adjuster. She tells him she's invited Nicola over for tea.

Back at Billy's flat, they've been explaining to the social worker that the robbery thing was all a daft mistake, but she looks sceptical. When she's gone, Billy and Todd turn to Summer, who looks suitably chastened. "Did I mess up?" she asks. They tell her just to be careful what she jokes about. She goes off to her room, and Billy is worried. He thinks Janette, the social worker will check up, but Todd assures him she'll find there was no case to answer. Billy is then filled with guilt and remorse and wants to tell the police about the car crash.

Kate is at Zeedan's house, fixing up the fairy lights. Zee goes upstairs to get something and Rana walks in. She's not happy to see Kate there and asks what she's playing at. They glare at each other, just inches apart.

Robert and Daniel are out on the cobbles, preparing for their race. Then Robert shouts, "3,2,1 go!" and runs off. Daniel is quick to follow him.

Nicola is walking towards Pat's house when he gets out of his van and asks her if she's changed her mind. "Far from it," she says, adding that she's going to tell Eileen what kind of man she married. He tells her he's already lost her, he doesn't want to lose Eileen as well. "This isn't about you," she says, just as Eileen approaches them.

Kate is trying to get past Rana and leave, when Rana says, "Don't go, please," and stares at her. Kate then leans forward and kisses her. Just then they hear Zeedan coming down the stairs so they break apart and Kate heads for the door. Zeedan turns to Rana. "What did I miss?" he asks, "something just happened – what?"

Rana doesn't say why Kate walked out and gives Zeedan a hard time for setting them up in the same place at the same time. Zeedan just wanted to try and mend the fractured relationship and is not aware of the true feelings which are powering the "dispute".

At No.11, Phelan seems powerless to stop Nicola from telling Eileen everything. He tries to convince her that he isn't a danger to Eileen. Phelan tries to make Nicola doubt Anna's word by telling her that she pushed Seb off his ladder. She doesn't fall for it. She knows how far Pat pushed Anna over the earlier blackmail and therefore retains some sympathy for Anna. She is starting to become very aware of how far Pat will go.

Todd is scared that Billy is going to confess and reminds him that he'd be reneging on his promise to Drew to ensure that Summer is looked after properly. Hope and Ruby let Mary play on the new trampoline, although Mary will not go very high as she is worried about her pelvic floor.

With Eileen back Nicola spares Phelan and announces that she's moving to Australia this weekend and staying with a mate whilst she looks for a job (not easy when you are pregnant and what about the mortgage she has to pay on her new flat?). As she leaves she walks past Pat without speaking to him, just ignoring him.

In the run to the Red Rec and back twice Daniel, despite having given Robert a head start and not being particularly fit himself just about beats Robert back to the bistro. Robert decides that he needs to get into shape.

Adam writes a statement for the police for Billy denying any involvement in the robbery and explaining how his fingerprints might have come to be on the car and Adam reads it to the police. PC Fox makes an awkward Billy confirm verbally that the statement is correct. Billy clearly does not like lying but realises the pressures which require him to do so.

Rana visits Kate in the flat. Kate asks Rana if she really wants to be with Zeedan. Rana refuses to answer until Kate tells her how she feels about her. Kate tells her to stop messing with her head and get on with marrying Zeedan.

Eileen believes that Nicola is leaving because of the need to get away from Gary and suggests to Phelan the idea of paying her to stay in the country.

The police have no evidence on which to charge Billy, so he is released and it looks like that enquiry is at an end.

In the office at the builder's yard Phelan burns Vinny's (or was it Harvey's?) passport. He also takes a chunk of the money which Harvey / Vinny gave him on the run up to the shooting which Pat has been keeping in his office safe.

Nicola gets the true story about Anna's arrest over Seb's accident from the woman herself. Anna is in turn is shocked that Phelan admitted blackmailing her into sex.

Zeedan stays over at Kate, Luke and Alya's flat on the night before his wedding. He gives Kate the rings to look after as he does not trust Luke to remember them.

Pat offers the money he extracted from the safe and VInny's bag earlier. Nicola refuses Phelan's money and tells him not to contact her again. Anna sees her off as she leaves the Street.

Friday 17 November

Written by Joe Turner and directed by Nickie Lister

Tonight's first episode opens in the cafe where Pat and Eileen are talking about Nicola going off to Australia. Eileen wonders if he can persuade her to change her mind. Pat has things closer to home to worry about as he's off to the house to meet with the loss adjuster. As he's leaving Faye comes in and Anna is not best-pleased when Pat gives Faye a message for Seb – he can have his old job back.

Zeedan pops back home to pick up his clothes for later where Yasmeen is happily preparing food for the wedding celebrations. Nobody seems to notice that Rana looks more like she's preparing to go to a funeral.

Across the street, Kate is in her dressing gown. She tells Alya and Luke she can't make the wedding as she thinks she's coming down with a bug.

Meanwhile, Michelle and Robert have been making up for lost time in the bedroom but Michelle is worried. She's noticed a lump on Robert… you know … down there, she explains awkwardly, presumably to avoid saying the word testicle before the evening watershed. He tries to brush it off as a groin strain but, as Michelle points out, if she found a lump in her breast he'd march her straight down to the medical centre. (Apparently saying breast is acceptable before 9pm).

Sinead comes home, exhausted after her nightshift but Ches is off to work so she'll have to look after Joseph. He promises to sort it with Gemma so he can get off early giving her a chance to go out later.

We return to Michelle and Robert. She is determined he's going to get his lump looked at so she lays it on the line: no more nooky until he's been to see the doctor.

At the Nazirs' Zee is spruced up and ready to go while Rana is yet to get dressed. Alya pops round to break the news that Kate won't be coming as she's ill. Rana's face falls even further.

The next scene takes place in the Kabin where we establish the following: Kate is stocking up on supplies for her day in bed, Sophie might call round and see her later and Colin and Norris both have a habit of cleaning their glasses in a particular way. Moira comes in and, in a completely ridiculous and over-the-top attempt at sounding seductive, asks Colin if he sells double sided sticky tape.

Rana goes round to see Kate. She spells is out on the line: she wants Kate to tell her not to marry Zee and then she'll find a way of getting out of it. But an emotional Kate refuses to let Rana make her be the bad guy and she throws her out.

Rana comes downstairs dressed for her wedding. The only person left in the house is Aidan. They have a conversation about making decisions which doesn't mean much to Aidan as he isn't party to what's going on in Rana's head but she thanks him and hurries out, saying she now knows what to do.

In the Bistro Robert's looking stressed. They're a man down because of the wedding and he tells Daniel he has a couple of things he needs to cancel.

Eileen turns up at the burnt out house. Pat persuades her not to go inside. The loss adjuster seems satisfied, so he doesn't want to do anything to affect the insurance payout and jeopardise their dreams.

At the Bistro Alya gets a message from Rana telling her that she's going on her own to the register office and she'll meet her there. Meanwhile Robert has a word with Daniel. If Michelle asks, he wants Daniel to tell her that Robert popped out for a couple of hours. In other words, he hasn't gone to the medical centre as promised.

We now go back to the Kabin where Norris is chatting to Colin about his life in the world of stationery. In a scene that lasts all of 30 seconds we learn that Norris once spent two weeks in Darlington in 1961, Norris gets called away to join Rita in the Rovers, Moira comes in to complain her double-sided tape is only sticky on one side and Colin grasps her hands to share his discombobulating discovery – he believes that Norris may be his father.

Anna finds Seb in the kebab shop. She tells him that Nicola is going away and warns him that Pat is about to offer him his old job back but Seb tells her not to worry, he's OK about that.

Ches rings Sinead to let her know he'll be home shortly but Gemma has lost her lucky skull charm. With a sigh he tells Gemma he'll stay for another five minutes to help her find it.

We now know what's happened to Rana. She's decided to seek the advice of the Imam. She tearfully tells him that she's fallen in love with two people and she needs him to tell her what to do.

Sophie turns up to visit Kate but far from looking ill, Kate appears to have been drinking.

Having not got anywhere talking to Seb, Anna decides to try her luck with Pat. She knows he set her up but she tells Pat that, unlike him who gets away with murder, she's not going to get sent down for something she didn't do. She warms to her theme and enjoys reminding him that Nicola has gone off to Australia thanks to her. She should have learned by now that Pat always gets the upper hand. With great relish Pat tells Anna they'll need to get along now they're family. After all, they'll both be grandparents to Nicola and Gary's baby ….

Given all the warnings and past events is it any surprise when Anna storms into the office at the yard to tell Phelan "No way". (Personally I think she finds him very attractive - she cannot stay away from him). She is refusing to believe that Gary has fathered Nicola's baby. Phelan wishes it was not true - but it is - so the two of them have to move on, but not like Nicola. Phelan says he has changed mentally since meeting his daughter even if Anna cannot see it (yep he never was a killer and now he is). Pat reminds Anna that they are gong to share a grandchild and need to work together to get Nicola to change her mind. Pat is looking forward to the shared Christmases - it does not bring even a smile to Anna's face. Pat knows she cannot turn her back on Gary's child. Anna does not believe this is real (luckily it is not). She does not believe Gary would do it - Pat assures her it is. He makes it simple for her - she has the opportunity to be a grandma again; if not the alternative is jail (for Seb's accident). Pat admits he planted the idea in Seb's head and the earring. So he suggests she plays happy families and help get Nicola home. Anna asks if it is blackmail. Pat says he wants to bring an end to the fighting. Anna does not think getting Nicola back will work but Pat reckons that Anna and Gary can manage it. And Eileen is to know nothing of the blackmail. They both love their families and the baby will be family to both of them. Anna leaves and Pat is smiling - another little win.

The Imam helping Rana hands her a tissue and guidance. He tells her to close her eyes and study the future. The things she wants to do, where she wants to be in 5 years' time, 10 years, 20 years, the journeys; who does she want to be with on those visits to wonderful places? Who should stand by her side? She opens her eyes. Apparently the problem has been going on some time. The Imam says that time heals wounds and allows us to put problems into a proper perspective. Rana knows the problem is not going to go away. She says she needs to choose now. She loves her husband and she does not want to hurt him. The Imam realises she is married - the nikah was a year ago. The Imam says the path is clear - in the eyes of Allah she is already married. There is no choice - she knows what she must do. Her mobile rings - it is Kate - she rejects the call and shortly after sees she has a voicemail message. The Imam cannot help her further.

At the Registry Office there are lots of worried people - but Luke has the rings. Suddenly out of nowhere Imran, Rana's brother appears. Imran criticizes Zeedan's white trainers at the bottom of his otherwise excellent suit (suited but not booted - poor form).

Brian and Cathy are having a light lunch in the Bistro as Brian does not want to ruin his appetite ahead of Yasmeen's special biryani. Michelle arrives and lies about seeing the doctor saying it is merely a groin strain. She accepts it.

Sophie is at Kate's - the latter is desperate for a kebab on top of all of the alcohol she has consumed. Sophie agrees because the fridge is empty. There are numerous empty bottles around. Sophie leaves and Kate grabs her phone rings Rana and when she rejects the call (see above) she leaves a message on the answering machine - "Sorry I chucked you out - you want to say it, so I will. Don't do it! Don't marry Zeedan! I love you." And smiling to herself she hangs up.

Chesney rescues Gemma's charm skull from the fryer - but it is ruined and only cost £1.99. Rosie has come in wanting chips and Sophie is after a kebab for Kate. Rosie says her body sugars are dangerously low and she needs the carbs! Rosie goes to the chippy and Sophie takes the kebab. Crisis averted Chesney (who seems to have forgotten his panic attacks) is heading home when he trips over a can of cooking oil which needs to be cleared up before work can resume. There is oil everywhere - and before clearing it up Gemma suggests a wrestle in the oil! Chesney is somewhat taken aback and wants the place clean! (David and Shona did not bother with oil on the cafe floor!).

Sinead and Eileen are checking on progress of Jake with Gary. Fiz is looking after Joseph. Anna comes up to Gary - she tells Sinead that Gary was always trouble. Eileen has already gone and Sinead goes as well. Anna asks Gary to tell her it is not true that Nicola is pregnant with his child. He does not answer and Anna gives a little shake of her head!

After the break we are at Kev's house where Anna is serving Gary with a brew. Apparently Gary made a mistake (which required him to remove his clothes and impregnate a strange woman). Gary tries to explain how working in Ukraine affected him. But they all needed the money (and how is Jake's speech by the way?). Nicola was prepared to talk - but as Anna points out you do not get pregnant from talking. In turn Gary is surprised that Anna found out from Pat. She explains they have to get Nicola back so they can all play Pat's happy families. Gary is not playing ball. She explains the blackmail and the alternative to Nicola returning is jail for Anna.

Along at the Bistro Robert is online shopping buying special bike riding shorts for his planned involvement in a triathlon. Daniel takes the Michael. Michelle tells Daniel that she had to bully Robert to go to the doctor's earlier and he has been diagnosed with a groin strain. Daniel points out that ordering things on line will not cause any more strains! Michelle tells them both there are to be no secret training sessions. She goes and Robert thanks Daniel for not dropping him it. Daniel thinks that Robert should get himself checked out - but Robert insists it is just a strain and if it carries on he will get himself checked out.

Imran's Italian leather shoes are now on Zeedan's feet. No sign of Rana. Zeedan starts to panic. And then of course she rushes through the door. Apparently the taxi got lost and took a wrong turn. She greets her mother who arrived with Imran. If only they could sort Zeedan's hair they would both look attractive. They go in to get married again.

Eileen returns home and suggests a quick pint in the Rovers - but Pat is tired and does not want to go. She diagnoses that he is pining for the lost house. She tells him that he needs to give it time and they will find a new dream. Pat goes off to have his bath. Eileen gets Andy's little "house" out of her bag and looks at it.

Gary wants to go to the police and tell them what Pat said - but there is no evidence and the truth about Nicola's baby will come out. Gary says he will have to tell Sarah. Gary will not let Anna go to prison to protect him. Anna knows Pat is lying and they need to think about it. She does not think the battle is lost yet. Anna suggests letting Pat sweat for now.

Huge numbers of people are digging into Yasmeen's much loved food. Zeedan has calmed down for now - all the panic was for nothing. Zeedan says he cannot help fearing how painful losing something so lovely might be. Yasmeen tells him to celebrate the now. Daniel is explaining Robert's fancy new cycling shorts. The doorbell rings and a somewhat inebriated Kate falls over the doorstep. Imran is apparently a criminal lawyer. Kate wants to wish the bride and groom well and proposes a toast (reminder they do not drink) that they may both be happy forever and ever! Zeedan suggests she should have a coffee; Rosie observes that there is always one at a wedding and it is usually her! Rana's dad phones interrupting her opportunity to speak to Kate. Rana says she is very happy. Kate looks completely broken.

Sinead brings Joseph downstairs. Chesney returns home to recount his nightmare of a day. Apparently he is so loathe Beth has gone without Sinead and it is too late for her to follow. Sinead is unhappy but realises she has to get used to it. She sends Chesney for a shower as he still stinks of chip oil. Sinead sits down on the bottom of the stairs and considers her responsibilities - principally young Joseph.

Back at the party Rana established that Kate is drunk and Kate observes that Rana is married. Rana admits to getting the voicemail message and deleting it unheard. Kate will not tell her what she said on the message. Rana pleads with Kate not to make a scene. Kate says she will sneak away as if she was never there. Alya pops her head round the door and checks everything is OK and Kate assures her it is. In the morning she will be sober and Rana will still be married. Kate apologises and asks for Zeedan to be told she apologised. She leaves. Rana assures Alya there is no problem - just that Kate has drunk too much. Alya tells Rana not to let it ruin her big day. Rana says they are like sisters now and they hug enabling us to see Rana's very worried face over her shoulder.

Roll credits.

This episode is in memory of Jason Crossley. From a couple of internet searches it appears he worked on Corrie as costume supervisor.

Well Rana and Kate - where next I wonder? I also feel for Zeedan.

When will Eileen learn the truth about Pat? Has Nicola left for good or will Gary and Anna get her to return?

Sinead & Chesney - were they right to re-unite or not?

And finally I think we can guess that Robert is really ill. We have to hope they will catch it in time.

Finally in the words of Mrs Dale I remain very worried about Emily Bishop or should that be Eileen Derbyshire?

Monday 20 November

Tonight's first episode was written by Susan Oudot and directed by Neil Alderton

Kate is trying to keep her head down after her behaviour following yesterday's wedding while Robert has taken up bike riding and is in training for a triathlon.

Across the street, Norris calls into the Kabin and is surprised to discover Colin is wearing an outfit identical to his own; a distinctly unappealing combination of yellow shirt and beige tank top. They engage in conversation and Norris mentions he suffers from high cholesterol. Colin is particularly interested to learn that Norris is due to go into the medical centre that very afternoon to have a blood test.

In the Bistro Daniel overhears Michelle on the phone – she's telling Carla about Robert's medical concerns but adds that he's been to the doctor and it's nothing to worry about. Daniel decides he has to put Michelle straight.

Over in the Rovers, Gina asks Dev for an advance on her wages. They may be an item but Dev won't break his rules, even for her. As Gina heads out of the door she passes Rosie coming in and treads on her skirt, causing a large rip. It's lucky Gina's a dab hand with the sewing machine: she takes Rosie home to repair the damage.

Meanwhile Sinead has been landed with Joseph once again so Izzy offers to take him to the park with Jake so Sinead can stay and have a drink with Beth.

Alya goes over to the Bistro to have words with Kate about her behaviour at the wedding. Kate puts it down to mixing medication with alcohol and promises to apologise to Rana and Zeedan.

We return to the Rovers where Liz is complaining to Sinead and Beth about her unwanted lodger. Not only is Moira using her expensive magnolia bubble bath, she's not even offered to pay for it. But Liz thinks she might know of somewhere Moira could be persuaded to move to …

At another table, Anna is having a drink with Pat but not for any social reasons. She may, at long last, have one over on him. She tells him that Gary might be able to persuade Nicola not to go to Australia but he'll only do that if Pat goes to the police, withdraws his statement and finds a way to get them to drop all charges against Anna.

Sinead leaves the Rovers to go and pick up Joseph but she's had one too many drinks with Beth. Daniel appears like a knight in shining armour and escorts her back to his flat to administer black coffee which doesn't go unnoticed by Tracy who's watching from across the street.

Over in the Bistro Robert is making a risotto when Michelle comes in with some good news – Will has been sentenced to a year in prison. Robert's delighted but his mood changes when Michelle tackles him about lying to her over visiting the doctor. Michelle tries to get him to talk to her about his fears but Robert walks out.

In the medical centre, Liz is encouraging Moira to have a relationship with Colin. Moira doesn't need much persuading but she tells Liz he keeps blowing hot and cold. Liz makes out she might be interested in him – anything to give Moira the shove she needs in Colin's direction so she'll move out of the flat. At that moment Colin comes in and Moira goes into full flirting mode. It gives a whole new meaning to incredulous when Moira admires Colin's lookalike Norris outfit and tells him the tank top enhances his erogenous zones. But cold water is poured on Moira's ardour when Colin tells her he needs a favour. He's acquired a DNA kit and wants Moira to take a few drops of Norris's blood from his test. She couldn't possibly risk her job, says Moira. Colin leaves the sample bottle behind, just in case.

Sinead is starting to sober up. She tells Daniel she loved living in the flat with him. She goes to leave but Daniel doesn't want to miss the chance to finally talk and persuades Sinead to stay a bit longer.

Gina's been busy mending Rosie's skirt. Tim's stunned when Rosie sees how Gina's covered the hole with some sparkly material and fake fur and declares it to be "amazeballs". Rosie tells Gina she could start a business pimping clothes from charity shops. Could this be the answer to Gina's prayers?

Izzy's returned from the park with Jake and Joseph but there's no sign of Sinead so now she's stuck with looking after two small boys.

Meanwhile, Sinead is deep in conversation with Daniel. They talk about their regrets over the abortion and Daniel tells her how she taught him to have feelings again. They both say how much they miss each other and are on the point of kissing when Sinead reminds Daniel she's engaged.

Zeedan and Rana go into the Bistro to speak to Kate. She repeats her earlier apology, blaming her behaviour again on mixing meds with alcohol. She's on her way to the cash and carry but Rana grabs her as she leaves. She wants to know what Kate said in her voicemail. Kate refuses to tell her and pulls away. She gets into the "Nick's Bistro" car.

Across the street, Michelle finds Robert sitting on the bench. She tries once more to talk to him about his lump and apologises for being a nag but says it's only because she loves him.

Izzy comes round the corner with the two boys running ahead and Kate sets off in the car. She's distracted by her phone ringing on the seat next to her – it's a call from Rana. Joseph runs into the path of the car. Just in time, Robert sees what's happening, leaps across the road and pushes Joseph out of the way. Robert is hit full on and is thrown over the top of the car.

As Robert lies motionless in the street, Michelle rushes to his side and yells at Kate to call an ambulance. Chesney gathers Joseph in his arms and wonders what's happened to Sinead.

If he but knew it, Sinead is still with Daniel. She doesn't want to leave but feels she must. She tells Daniel Ches is a good person, as if trying to convince herself. He says he's lucky to have her. Sinead finally tears herself away.

Out in the street, Rana has taken over. She speaks to Kate who's in shock. Sinead comes running along the street to find out what's happened. When Ches asks where she was she tells him she was with Beth. Daniel then appears and catches Sinead's eye. As we hear the ambulance coming, Robert opens his eyes.

Over in the medical centre, Moira has decided to risk her job after all and is delving into the fridge to retrieve Norris's blood sample. She hastily pretends to be carrying out an electrical check when the doctor walks in with Sean in tow.

Meanwhile Gina doesn't let the grass grow. She's had a rummage through Sally's clothes cupboard and has been busy making new creations. As a thank you for letting her take over a corner of the living room she's made a hideous hat for Tim and a sparkly top which she thinks would be perfect for Sally's inauguration ceremony as mayor. Sally does her best to look grateful.

We return to the medical centre where Joseph's been checked over. He seems fine but Ches wants to know why Sinead left him with Izzy. He looks guilty when she tries to explain about needing some time to herself. Ches apologises, after all Joseph is his son, and he tells Sinead he doesn't deserve her. Now it's Sinead's turn to look guilty.

Over at the hospital, Michelle and Kate receive the good news that Robert isn't as badly injured as they feared. Apart from a few cuts and bruises he'll only need to stay in overnight for observation.

Joseph also seems to have come away unscathed but Sinead gets landed with him once more while Chesney goes back to the kebab shop to cash up. On his way past the florist's he sees Beth talking to Tracy. She asks how Joseph is. Oblivious to Sinead's version of events, Beth lets slip that they were no longer together when the accident happened. Beth walks away and Tracy calls Ches over. She can't wait to tell him that she saw Sinead going off with Daniel.

Chesney is furious and is ready to go after Daniel with all guns blazing. But Tracy, who is an expert at such things, has some advice for him: keep your friends close and your enemies closer. She takes him off for some coaching in how to deal with Daniel.

The police have been round to the flat to interview Kate. Luke has overheard and offers her the chance to talk. He knows there's something she's not telling him and presses her for the truth. Kate finally admits that Rana loves her and that she feels the same way.

At the hospital Robert is talking to Michelle and recalling what happened but the moment she mentions sitting on the bench he sends her off to fetch some water, rather than getting onto the subject they'd been discussing at the time.

Now that he knows the truth, Luke questions Kate further. She tells him that now Rana's made her choice, her feelings don't really matter and, to be honest, she hates her right now for messing with her heart. As they hear footsteps on the stairs Kate begs Luke not to tell Alya.

At the hospital Robert apologises to Michelle about their conversation on the bench but when she raises the dreaded subject again he shuts off and says he needs to sleep.

Back on the street, Gina's feeling miffed. Sally won't wear her top to the inauguration and Tim isn't wearing his hat. But it seems not everyone feels the same way. Tommy Orpington, the pride of Weatherfield County FC, posted a photo of himself wearing Tim's hat on Twitter and now everyone wants to own one.

A few doors away, Moira pops into the Kabin with something for Colin. He leads her through to the back. Moira delves seductively into her handbag and pulls out Norris's DNA sample. She follows this with another gift of a hat (and, before anyone asks, I haven't a clue what the significance of this is). One thing swiftly leads to another and moments later they're sharing a passionate kiss.

Out in the street Tracy meets Michelle and asks after Robert. She bets he didn't go into hospital without a fight. Michelle looks confused. Why? Well, after what happened to his dad, says Tracy. The penny drops as Tracy tells her that his father was in and out of there for months with his cancer.

Tracy then pops into the Bistro where Chesney's putting her coaching into practice. He starts a conversation with Daniel and tells him that the accident puts everything into perspective as it made him realise how close he was to losing his son. He thanks him for getting Joseph to speak and even brings himself to shake Daniel's hand. As Ches leaves, Tracy congratulates him and announces it's now time for phase two. She says that Daniel's temper is his Achilles heel so tomorrow night he should get Sinead in the Bistro and then watch the fireworks ...

Wednesday 22 November

Michelle arrives to see Robert in hospital. He apologises for kicking off yesterday, but she says it doesn't matter. He impatient to be discharged, and Michelle tells him that Tracy has told him about his dad, she wonders why he never told her, but adds that now she understands how scared he must have been when he found the lump. He tells her that she's the one that's scared, and most lumps are nothing to worry about. She wants him to get it checked out, but he's tight lipped and tells her to drop it.

At Sally's house, she's all excited about her forthcoming inauguration. Gina comes downstairs and Sally asks her if she's had any thoughts about how to get her new business off the ground. Gina reminds her that she doesn't have any money. Sally suggests she and Rosie go round to clothes shops and ask if they have any old stock they don't want.

In the cafe, Kate tells Daniel that Robert has a cut shoulder and a bit of concussion, but otherwise he's ok. She feels dreadful about it.

Colin and Moira come in, all loved up, she thinks she should hurry to the surgery and put Norris's blood sample back before it's missed, but he urges her to stay and have breakfast with him.

Sinead comes in, and Kate goes over and tells her she feels terrible about what happened. Sinead says it wasn't her fault but Kate wants to drop off a present. When she's gone, Daniel goes over and tells Sinead it wasn't her fault either, but Sinead thinks she should have been with him, not with Daniel. Just then Chesney comes in, and initially doesn't look happy to see the two of them talking, but then adjust his face and cheerfully greets them. Sinead goes off and he offers to buy Daniel a present, but says he's just had one.

Back at the hospital, Michelle stops the ward sister and explains that Robert found a lump recently and wonders if someone could have a look at it. The sister says she'll see what she can do.

Roy goes into the Kabin and asks for his Classic Railway magazine. Colin produces another, cheaper alternative, but Roy points out that that isn't the one he ordered. Norris is in the Kabin and interrupts them, saying he's sure that Colin could order the correct one. Colin starts to object but is silenced, and then agrees. Mary comes in then, and while they're talking, Norris gets a phone call. The surgery want him to go back for another blood test.

The ward sister takes the urologist in to see Robert, who is not at all pleased but eventually agrees to be examined.

Chesney goes into the corner shop and sees Tracy. He tells her now he caught Daniel and Sinead in the cafe earlier looking very cozy.

Back at the hospital, the doctor has examined Robert and strongly recommends a scan. Robert isn't happy and Michelle is very worried.

Sally is back at home after her inauguration, and is wearing her chain of office while a newspaper photographer takes photos. Dev comes in and, after congratulating her, starts waffling on about high business rates, while Yasmeen hopes that some council funds will be going to community centres. Sally hopes to form strong working relationships with both groups. Gail whips out her phone and gets close to Sally for a selfie, and just then Gina and Rosie come back, not looking very happy. They've had no luck getting any old stock from clothes shops. Dev asks Sophie what that's all about and she explains Gina's business idea. "That's great," he tells Gina. "Not if you haven't any money," she says.

Gemma is preparing to leave Johnny and Jenny's flat and move back to Rita's. She hands over a pack of chocolates to Johnny, and then a large bottle of expensive body lotion to Jenny. "That's your's," she says. Jenny starts to thank her when Gemma interrupts, it really is her's, Gemma was going to pocket it, but then thought better of it! Johnny and Jenny are off to Sally's little celebration, and Gemma tells them that she's going to a party as well, only she doesn't know who's party it is, she just saw the open invitation online. Jenny warns her to be careful, but Gemma reckons it will be fine because it's in a posh part of town.

Robert has had his scan and meets up with Michelle in the corridor. He's not happy with her for her part in it all, and they have a few cross words.

Kevin tells Sally that he never thought, when he first drenched her with a puddle when they first met, that she would end up being mayor of Weatherfield. Just then the doorbell goes and in come some bailiffs, here to present Sally with a court order and collect goods to the value of five thousand pounds for non-payment of debts! The photographer gets to his feet and starts snapping.

Norris is back at the surgery wanting to know why he has to have another blood test. The doctor tells him they appear to have lost the other sample. Just as Norris starts ranting and raving about making a formal complaint, Moira pipes up that it was her fault, she dropped the other one and smashed it. However, the next minute Colin appears and says that he coerced Moira into stealing Norris's blood because he wanted to get it tested. "I think you might be my dad!" he tells Norris.

Back at Sally's house, she's telling the bailiffs that it must be a huge mistake, she doesn't owe anyone anything. As the bailiffs start taking out the tv, Sophie looks at the paperwork and tells Sally that she stood as guarantor for a loan. As Gina starts to slope quietly out of the room, Sophie reads out that the loan was taken out by Gina Seddon. Sally turns and tells her to stop right where she is.

Michelle is sitting miserably on the hospital bed when Kate arrives to see Robert. Michelle tells her he's gone to see the consultant. Kate goes on to say she feels terrible about what happened, but Michelle says it's fine, it wasn't her fault. Kate then tells her that it was, and confesses that her phone rang and she looked down at it while she was driving. By the time she looked back up it was too late. Michelle then tells her it doesn't matter and to go home.

Robert is in the with the consultant who tells him that it would seem that the lump is malignant. To be sure they need to remove the testes. Then, if it does turn out to be cancerous they will need to do a CT scan to find out if it's spread. He wants to get Robert to surgery within the hour.

Robert won't sign the consent form immediately, demanding time to think. He hides his condition from Michelle, saying the lump is only a swelling.

Sally is despondent that her big moment has been ruined by her sister. Dev walks out on her and Sally tells her to leave her house.

Dr Gaddas sacks Moira.

Chesney books a table at the Bistro. Daniel sees another booking supposedly from Denise and grows stressed, much to Chesney's pleasure as he realises this is due to Tracy.

Norris tells Colin he was just in hospital in Darlington in 1961 following a car accident and met no women, especially his mother. He is nevertheless regretful that Colin hasn't turned out to be his son.

Robert goes out for a bike ride, refusing to listen to Michelle's concerns.

Gina convinces Dev that she's going to make amends.

Robert finds being in the saddle painful and Steve, stopping next to him in his taxi, notices he has blood on him.

Gemma steals items from the party, watched by another of the attendees, Henry Newton.

Steve takes Robert home. Michelle insists he goes back to the hospital and he admits the truth to her. Dev announces to Mary and the twins that Gina is moving in. Mary wonders if he's doing the right thing and counsels caution.

Henry gets to know Gemma, seemingly attracted to her exuberant character.

Rosie decides to try damage limitation on behalf of her mother by appealing to the better nature of the photographer.

Moira is stunned that her infatuation of Colin has got her the sack but when he proposes that they leave for Stoke-on-Trent together as he has sold the Kabin back to Norris, she happily agrees.

Robert breaks down and confesses that his fears date from the experience of seeing his dad die. He knows that he does have cancer and there is no hope of a mis-diagnosis.

As they eat their meal, Chesney is delighted as he and Sinead witness Daniel unfairly losing his temper with Kate.

Gemma is pleased as Henry flirts with her. The police raid the party and she runs off, leaving a shoe behind.

Robert astounds Michelle when he won't give her any assurances that he will have the operation.

Thursday 23 November

An extra episode tonight to make up for one of the two missed due to football recently. I am doing this as I am about to go on holiday and will not be around for a while.

This is episode 9307. The writer for this episode was Jan McVerry and the director was Neil Alderton. Copyright remains the property of ITV to whom many thanks.

At their flat Robert is on the phone and the operation will be tomorrow or the day after. Michelle is impressed (you and me both - does this really happen?). Robert is understandably apprehensive. Michelle wants to tell the Bistro staff. Robert disagrees.

The Weatherfield Gazette has a headline about the new Mayor rejecting her bipolar sister - which Dev is reading in the shop. Tracy is looking for "Nuts?". Then she mentions "Marbles?". Dev tells her that the day compassion was handed out Tracy was as the back of the queue. Tracy says she is not shacked up with a barmpot - the joke is on Dev.

Tim reads the newspaper story to Sally. Tim regrets inviting the photographer. Sal defends the photographer. Rosie appears - the bailiffs took her straighteners and the remaining hair dryer is useless.

At the cafe Gemima is telling Cathy, Alex and Gina about her new man who thinks she is a nurse. Gina is served and Sally meets her leaving - with money for takeaways - Gina tells her it is Dev's money. Sally accuses Gina of telling the paper when Rosie rushes in wearing god alone knows what and says that before Sal goes off on one she was only trying to help.

Michelle tells the Bistro staff that Robert will not be in work for a while as his injuries need to recover. For reasons I cannot comprehend given they managed so well whilst he was inside Zeedan goes into panic mode and is unable to cope! Chesney has wandered in and hearing Robert will be missing for some weeks starts feeling very guilty.

Colin is in the Rovers with tuna custard bake Moira hanging off his arm. He tells Norris the papers on the sale of the shop will be with him by Friday. He also gives Norris a forwarding address. Liz says that there will be a massive Moira shaped hole in their lives and Steve agrees. Moira wants them all to visit Stoke. Colin is going to miss his Colossus of commerce and gives Norris a huge bear hug. Moira hugs Liz and tells her not to come out as she does not want to make it any harder for herself. Colin has departed without paying so Steve makes good and Norris heads off to help Rita move back into her flat. Liz sighs and says it is a small price to pay for getting the couch back.

Dev returns home to find Gina is packing. She insists she has not taken anything. He wants to know why she could not tell him she was going after he took her in against advice. Gina tries to explain how the mania enveloped her. And it turns into a downward spiral. He does not mean that - he wants to know if he was just a boyfriend because she wanted another one. He throws the paper at her.

Chesney goes to Robert in the flat with an envelope. It is the last £1000 of the compensation which he throws on the table. Chesney admitted he had left Joseph and so he feels responsible. Chesney tells Robert that he is a hero, although Robert does not want to believe him. Chesney is not changing his mind and he tells Robert to look after himself.

Gina follows Dev into the kitchen and tells him it was not the way he said it was. She was not manic when they got together. She was stable and taking her meds. She knew he would be good for her and she hoped that she would be good for him. She starts crying. She admits she is frightened of the big bipolar bear. She was not trying to con Dev. She is sick of being a loser and wanted Dev to think he had found a winner. Dev admits to being hurt and embarrassed - and he too sheds a tear. He says she does not deserve the junk in the Gazette, or the way Sally talks to her or the need to apologise for her existence. He calls her bright, kind and funny and she cannot take a compliment. She has a lot to offer and she has never had a break. He tells her to unpack her bags. She smiles.

Robert is waiting for a driver in the cab office and Tracy enters as she saw him go in. She knows that Robert and hospitals do not see eye to eye. And she knows that Robert had not told Michelle about his father. Tracy remembers it was 13 or 14 years ago. Tracy says she always got on well with Maurice. Tracy says Maurice would have been proud of Robert - carpet fitter to chef to local hero. Tim returns with keys and thought they were going to the Sunset Casino but Robert says there has been a change of plan and rushes out of the office. Peter comes in - although why I am not sure!

There is a big party eating in the Bistro but one plate of mussels has not arrived. Daniel is sent to deliver a complimentary bottle of white. Zeedan says it will take 8 minutes. Chesney comes in and offers to do a few hours before his next shift - apparently Joseph is at the zoo.

Billy is sitting in a pew, no doubt praying for forgiveness, Robert enters and places the envelope of cash in the donation box. He goes to leave - but Billy catches him and Robert recounts his church involvement when a child. Maurice was a pillar of the community apparently. Until he died 14 years ago, in agony. He is at peace now observes Billy and offers to add him to his prayers which Robert accepts. Billy will add his carers at the end - so that they might find peace too. Robert thanks him. Robert goes and Billy opens the donation box and finds £1000.

After the break we find out why Peter was in the cab office - he has set Steve up with trial membership of 10 dating websites. Peter has entered all the traits of Steve's perfect partner and "Search 4 a Stunner" website starts searching. It is creating a 3-D image of his perfect partner. Steve reckons it is a con. Peter has fed Steve's bank details into the website - but Peter says there is a small price to pay for true love. The computer chimes - it has found perfection! Peter laughs and then shows the screen to Steve - the perfect match is Tracy! Peter says Steve cannot argue with the science! Steve would rather have the dog than Tracy!

Now in the kebab shop Gemma is looking for snaps of Henry and she eventually finds one to show Cathy and Alex. Gemma is definitely struck. However they did not manage to swap numbers before the police arrived. Gemma has put the word out and reckons that within 24 hours he will be back in her arms.

Robert comes into the Bistro and is challenged by Michelle but he is relaxed. He sees Chesney wandering by and did not realise they were hiring. Robert is going to ring the hospital and delay the operation (as if they had not managed whilst he was banged up). Billy comes in and tells Robert that they cannot accept that amount of money. Chesney of course identifies the envelope and contents. Robert says it was his decision - but Billy says he needs to sleep on it for a night or two. Michelle frowns as she knows nothing about all of this.

Gina has sent Sally a text message and the latter has packed up Gina's goods. Gina tells Sally that Rosie has done some good as it is all in the open now. Gina assures Sally she is going to pay back every penny. Dev has got Gina a stall on the Christmas market and will pay for her materials - investing in Gina is investing in "us" according to Dev. Gina assures her sister that she is going to make something of herself. She gives Sal the "Otter Hound" plate as a present. Gina is going to be sewing and blinging things up. "Tomorrow is another day" says Gina with an American accent.

Chesney is explaining the history of the money to Billy. Robert starts snapping and Michelle says he is not in a good place at the moment, so he snaps at her. Well he would be if they all get off his case. Billy and Chesney think it is all about the incident - but Robert says that is not the cause. Everyone is arguing until Daniel observes that is a £1000 but you cannot put a price on a life. Zeedan and Daniel sense there is something more serious as the bickering continues. Robert admits that he has testicular cancer. Silence reigns as they all take it in. It might be early - but they are not taking any chances and that is the real reason he needs to take time off. Chesney and Billy are the first to say how sorry they are. Robert asks them all to back off. As he leaves the Bistro the closing shot is of Michelle looking very worried.

Roll credits.

I wonder how long before Dev and Gina fail? I am surprised at Dev - so I wonder if he can keep on the straight and narrow.

Moira and Colin are gone. Not sad about the latter and given the way she was announced I had expected longer from the former.

I assume that like Rita recently Robert will recover with an all clear following the operation.

We can already see all the signs that Steve and Tracy will soon be having another ding dong - is this round three or four?

Finally in the words of Mrs Dale I remain very worried about Emily Bishop or should that be Eileen Derbyshire?

Friday 24 November

Written by Cameron McAllister and directed by Tim Royle

It's early morning on the street and Dev is in fine spirits while poor Norris didn't get a wink of sleep on account of baby George crying all night. He comments that standards of public decency are slipping as they watch Michelle heading off to the Bistro wearing her pyjamas under her coat.

Michelle finds Robert working away in the Bistro kitchen. He says he needs to make sure everything's is in order before his operation but she points out they managed fine while he was in prison. Michelle asks what he's going to do with Chesney's money. Roberts says he's giving it back as he doesn't want to accept charity from a kid in a kebab shop.

Yasmeen goes into the Kabin where life is back to the way it was before Colin's arrival with Rita and Norris working together again. She notices Rita has a card identical to the one she's received. Inside the message reads: "Meet me at the Bistro at 1pm today. You won't regret it." The sender is anonymous. Rita promptly tears hers up assuming it's a kid's prank but Yasmeen decides it's worth the risk to find out what it's all about.

Eileen and Pat are having breakfast in the cafe. She can't believe the insurance money's come through so quickly and wants to go out and celebrate. Meanwhile Pat does something most uncharacteristic. He calls Billy over and hands him some money for the church. He says he'd heard about Billy giving back the large donation and wanted to make a small contribution. Anna watches from behind the counter.

Eileen leaves and Gary arrives. Pat goes over for a quiet word with Gary and Anna who asks if he's turned over a new leaf. It seems he might have done because he tells them he's not going to say anything to Sarah about Gary getting Nicola pregnant. In that case, Anna wants to know, will he go to the police and tell them she's innocent? Pat promises he's sorting it. Meanwhile, he tells them, everyone else is going to know he's a reformed man when he does something this afternoon but beyond that he's not saying more.

Angie and Jude are taking the baby out for a walk, to Norris's relief – anything to help him sleep. He tells Mary he can't put up with them staying for too much longer and, whilst she's desperate for them remain nearby, the strain isn't doing her any good either.

Adam is working on his laptop at home while Daniel paces angrily round the flat. His life's falling apart again what with his mother making the mystery booking at the Bistro and his career as a journalist floundering before it's begun. Then he spots what Adam's working on: Billy's arrest. Perhaps it's given him the germ of an idea for a story?

Gina's also working at home – in this case, Dev's. He's impressed by her efforts but she's struggling to get everything done in time. Perhaps she needs to pay someone to help her.

Robert goes round to see Chesney and give him back his money but it's proving hard to get rid of it because Chesney refuses to take it. Robert saved Joseph's life and, what with the news of his cancer, Ches thinks he deserves it.

Sarah is waiting in the Bistro when arrives. As they look around the room Yasmeen points out that everyone there was affected by the Calcutta Street scam. Pat walks in and they realise who was behind the secret notes.

Meanwhile in the Rovers, Johnny sits down with Robert and sympathizes about his news. But Robert can't stay – he confides he's off to a private poker game. Johnny asks if he can join him and, while Robert goes off to call his mate, Johnny quickly rings Michelle to tell her. She's all ready to come rushing over but Johnny says not to worry, he's going with Robert and will make sure he doesn't do anything stupid.

Back in the Bistro Pat is explaining why he's called everyone together. He tells them he's had a bit of a windfall on one of his properties and he's going to share some of the money with them. It's not everything they're owed but it should help. Eileen's face is a picture as she arrives and watches Pat withdrawing wads of cash from a bag and handing it out.

Jude arrives at the health centre where Sean is behind the desk and Sally is in the waiting room. Jude's come to enquire about an appointment for Angie to see a counselor. Sean tells him the waiting list is longer than that for tickets to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Sally steps forward and introduces herself as the new mayor. She has a particular interest in mental health issues she tells a startled Jude and, before he has time to answer, she leads him off for a private chat.

We return to the Bistro where Pat has transformed everyone's opinion of him. Sarah is so delighted that she and Gary can now put a deposit on a home that she gives him a hug. Eileen, on the other hand, is far from pleased and pulls Pat aside for a quick word. Why didn't he tell her what he was planning? What about the money he owes Jason? Pat promises he'll sort it. He claims he just wants to do right by everyone. Eileen softens and gives him a kiss. Todd wanders across and comments it's a bit weird paying everyone in cash. Then he notices that the bag looks like Vinny's. Pat shrugs and says it's been lying in the yard for ages. Yasmeen shakes Pat's hand and says she may have misjudged him.

Gina goes into the cafe and finds Izzy. She's just the person she needs to help her and Izzy happily accepts Gina's offer of some work.

Sally arrives and is surprised to find Mary behind the counter. She was hoping not to see her until later when she might have some better news, explains Sally. Mary looks confused. Assuming Mary knows all about it, Sally tells her she was hoping to get Angie bumped up in the queue to see someone about her post-natal depression.

The scene moves to the poker game where Johnny's decided to call it a day. Robert gambles the remainder of his chips on one hand. Needless to say he loses. Johnny is horrified when Robert pulls out an envelope containing a thousand pounds and lays it on the table. Johnny says he needs to go and make a quick call but he's not allowed to leave the table.

We go back to the cafe where Daniel catches Billy. He tells him he's working on a new story about people who turn to religion after a life of crime. Billy looks anxious, especially when Daniel says he was hoping for his personal take and reveals what he already knows. He rushes off before Daniel can ask him any more.

In the Rovers everyone's talking about Pat's hand out. Yasmeen is planning to give some of hers to Dev to repay what Sharif owed him. Gary comes in and Sarah shares the good news that they've all been given £5,000 and rushes off to spend some of it on a bottle of Champagne to celebrate. When Anna comes in Gary tells her what's happened and says maybe Pat really has changed after all.

Back at the Poker game Johnny tries again to get Robert to leave but Robert isn't going anywhere and turns on him. Johnny gives up and says he'll wait for him downstairs. Robert's now run out of cash so he takes out a card and puts it on the table. The man running the game points out it's Robert's business card for the Bistro. That's right, says Robert and they continue with the game ….

Richard's off on his holidays and I'm back from mine so we're doing a bit of a switchover.

Michelle is upset that Johnny has come back from the poker game without Robert. Johnny kind of glosses over the game, not telling her that Robert seems intent on burning through his cash. Tracy overhears Johnny mention the operation and insists Michelle tell her what's going on. She's quite taken aback to find out about the potential cancer diagnosis. Robert, meanwhile, is betting heavily against his company credit card and loses 10,000 pounds.

Billy is freaking out because Daniel seems to have found out what he did in his past and tells Todd and Adam about it. He really doesn't want this to get out, he'll lose everything. Adam promises he'll sort Daniel out.

Anna sees Phelan on the street and tells him he did a good thing, repaying those debts. He's a bit surprised she's complimenting him. She wants to talk.

Mary has come to see Norris in the Kabin, frantic after finding out Angie's actual diagnosis. She feels terrible that Jude and Angie didn't tell her. She's come for advice but Norris doesn't think they'd take any further interference well.

Anna offers Phelan a drink and takes one herself. She makes out that she may start to believe he's actually changed. She's gone from one extreme to the other in a very short time. Does Pat believe her? He does sit down and take a drink.

Jude and Angie aren't pleased to see Mary outside the florist shop but although they all exchange glances, none of them says anything to the other. Jude tells Angie he'll bring a chippy tea home and sends her off. But Sally stops Angie on the street to talk about her condition and her attempts to help but Angie gets angry that Sally's stuck her nose in and also that Jude apparently told her about it in the first place. Mary trots over when she sees Angie getting upset and defends Angie, sending Sally on her way. She does get to apologize to Angie though Angie then just walks away.

Anna tells Phelan she thinks perhaps they should bury the hatchet now that her son is having a baby with his daughter, if he's really changed, that is. He says he has. He says all the right things about doing things differently and that he's scared he'll never see Nicola and his grandchild again. She offers to help him find Nicola but she offers him a deal first. Tell her why he's setting her up for Seb's fall. Of course, he pretends he has no idea what she's talking about and that pushes her shrieking harpy button. She screams at him to get out. I do hope wee Jack wasn't trying to sleep upstairs. He walks out, chuckling and she fetches her phone which was recording the conversation.

Phelan goes to see Seb who's still at Sally's. He's there to pour some more poison and tells him Anna probably did push him. He saw Anna head into the solicitor's office and looked angry.

Dev is trying to fix a blocked sink. Gina has been very successful selling her gear at the market and divides her profits between Dev and Sally after paying Izzy's wage. But then she realizes she has no money to buy new supplies. Dev hands back his share and tells her they'll rework the numbers.

Daniel comes home and has a look at Adam's laptop. Adam comes out of the bathroom to catch him at the computer. He accuses Daniel of looking at private legal documents without permission and he could ruin his career that way.

Robert finally returns to the Bistro. Michelle confronts him. He admits he lost but not the full extent of it. Not even close to the extent of it. Johnny apologizes but Robert tells him it's the least of his worries.

Seb is trying to process the fact that the police found one of Anna's earrings in the solicitor's office. He's shocked, can't believe Anna would do it. Phelan tells him that Anna never wanted he and Faye to be together and tried many times to split them up. She hates Seb and that's a fact and hates him more now because of his HIV diagnosis. He pours it on thick so that Seb starts to question himself.

Sally meets Gina in the Bistro. Gina gives Sally 300 pounds as a start on what she owes and the sisters share a laugh. Over at the bar, there's been a large party cancel. Robert gets a bit mouthy but backs down, realizing it's not Michelle's fault. Johnny heads home, giving Robert a concerned look. Michelle thinks Robert should go back to the flat and relax and he agrees.

Todd and Billy are in the pub. Todd is going to pick up Summer but Billy seems intent on drinking. Todd tries to tell him that he thinks Adam will sort out Daniel and not to worry. Billy's not so sure he trusts Adam.

Tracy and Mary are also in the pub. Mary's feeling low but perks up a bit when Jude and Angie come in to have a quiet word. Tracy leaves them to it. Angie is grateful for Mary's defense against Sally and Jude apologizes for the things he's said as well.

Sally pops in for milk at the corner shop and thinks Dev is a good man for taking on Gina who has so much baggage. He reckons he doesn't travel light himself and then shocks her when he writes her a cheque for the balance of the money Gina owes her. She accepts.

Robert is perusing his bank balance and it looks like he's used up almost all of his 7000 pound overdraft. Things look grim. Does Michelle have access to the Bistro's bank accounts, too? If she does, he won't be able to hide that for long. He closes the laptop when she arrives home. She tries to make him feel better by suggesting some bedroom olympics.

Anna is trying to get hold of Gary. There's a knock on the door and it's the police. She's being arrested and she is dragged out of the house and shoved into the police car screaming that she didn't do it. Seb and Phelan watch from across the road, Seb hoping he's done the right thing.

Monday 27 November

Part 1 and 2 Written by Damon Alexis-Rochefort Directed by Mickey Jones

Michelle talks to Robert about a holiday in the Maldives in January. He, of course, knows he can't afford it so keeps trying to put her off. She wants to go to the cash and carry so asks for the business card. He puts her off. The more she hints about the travel agency, the more he deflects. They've only just got the Bistro back on its feet, Robert protests. Daniel and Zeedan think she should book it anyway.

Later Michelle sends Robert home to get sorted for the hospital op tomorrow. She shows Daniel and Zeedan another holiday offer she's found and they think she should book it. She goes ahead and books it, hoping the holiday will take his mind off things. She goes back to the flat to show him the booked holiday. He's not best pleased. He tells her his recovery could take months. She's disappointed but tells him there's no cancellation fee. He tells her they'll book something even better once he's recovered.

Tim and Gary talk about Anna. No bail hearing yet. Gary is sure Phelan is behind all of it but doesn't quite know how he's managed to talk Seb into pressing charges. In prison, Anna is brought tea and toast and asks if she can make a call. Seb explains to Faye how he remembered what Anna did after Phelan helped him. Roy and Faye agree that Anna is not capable but he continues to persuade her. He gives her something to think about.

In prison, Anna is pacing up and down the interview room while her duty solicitor tries to get her to focus but she's ranting about Phelan and accusing him of all sorts. All she wants to do is get Anna bailed. She's advised to stay silent during the hearing.

Gary, Kevin, Tim and Faye are waiting in the cafeteria at the courthouse for the hearing to start. Faye confronts them with the evidence of the earring but later, Gary defends his mother and believes her that Phelan was the one that left the evidence. Faye is questioning everything. Gary is upset that she could turn on her mother after everything her mother has done for her. At home, Phelan tells Eileen that once he and Seb put their heads together and Seb remembered more, they had to report it. Eileen still isn't so sure Anna is capable of doing something like that.

At the hearing, the solicitor asks for leniency from the judge for Anna's bail but the severity of the charge and the intention of harming a minor, Anna is not going to get bail. Anna tells Faye she loves her and asks Gary to look after Faye for her before she's taken away.

Back on the Street, we find out that Seb is moving in with Eileen. Faye wants to go with him but Gary won't let her be under the same roof as Phelan. Eileen will let her stay for today. Tim allows it because Eileen will keep an eye out for her. Up the street, Kevin has to explain to Jack that it's a big mistake that Anna has been accused.

Jude has brought George to see Mary at Number 7. She's still upset over what she'd done. He promises he'll stick around. He says Angie is ok with it. They're going to view some rentals and asks if she can have George. She will, of course, but has to take him in to the shop with her. Looks like everyone has made up for now. Later in the shop, George seems just a bit fussy but that could be the flowers in his hair that Mary has added. Beth and Kirk are there and they chat about being new mothers, the ups and downs. Beth loved being a new mum because of the pressies, maternity leave and other benefits. Tracy comes in and is disconcerted by all the people there but when Kirk mentions how expensive baby photos are when they involve flowers and props, Tracy calls him a genius.

Now she's decided to offer a photo service. Kirk and Beth have come to the Bistro to ask if Robert will post flyers once the business is up and running. Robert is more concerned with persuading the flower shop Christmas party venue to be the Bistro. He's really drumming for business.

Mary returns to the flower shop later to find Tracy singing at the top of her voice and joins her in finishing the song. They then discuss enjoying a television program that sounds a bit grim with intestines and survival. Walking Dead, maybe? Apparently Norris is intrigued by the survivalist aspect at least. Mary then takes a call from Jude who tells her that George is ill again and has to stay overnight. Mary keeps offering to help in any way she can but Jude wants her to leave it and he'll keep her informed.

Later she tells Dev about it all and he offers to take her to the hospital but she honours Jude's wishes and says she'll text him about having flowers in the baby's hair, maybe it's hay fever or something? Dev finds Mary back at home. She's fretting, not having heard anything yet. Dev tries to distract her but she's not distracted though appreciates Dev's hand of supportive friendship.

Gemma went back to the house where the party was and did not get a very happy reception from the owners who were away at the time when their children had the party. Now she's got a wanted poster up in the Kebab shop window to find Henry! Except Brian has pulled them all down. Later at the cafe, Norris assured Gemma that Brian doesn't have any authority to arrest her for posting flyers but he does think finding Henry is a lost cause. Cathy comforts her.

A young man comes in the Kabin. He reckons newsagents are a good place to ask for information. Norris is more concerned that the man purchase something. It's Henry, and he buys some chewing gum. He asks after Jemima, sweet, lovely laugh. Norris thinks anyone named Jemima would be too posh for that neighbourhood. But just as Henry is about to leave, Norris calls him back.

Next time we see Gemma, she's in the pub and Liz is chuckling about Gemma leaving her shoe behind. Apparently this is nothing new, she's always leaving things like her phone or her pants behind (!) Norris comes in with Henry behind him. Gemma leaps into his arms joyfully! Liz tells Norris she recognizes Henry from somewhere. Henry and Gemma make plans to do something the next day but he's off back to work for now. Before he goes he tells Liz and Toyah it's a fantastic little boozer they have. Norris inquires about the reward that the poster offered and gets his face kissed enthusiastically all over for his troubles. Liz remembers who Henry is. He's Henry Newton of Newton and Ridley fame. He's loaded!

Billy is staring off into his conscience while Summer chats idly about her history project. Todd is surprised she's actually enjoying school. Summer corrects him, History. And she's not being picked on anymore, someone else has taken the baton on that front. Todd tells Billy to put himself together and leave the past in the past. He's having difficulty doing that.

Adam tells Todd that the police would have been in touch by now if they wanted to investigate Billy's past any further. They discuss Billy's state of mind, being overwhelmed by his conscience. Todd takes a call from Toyah who tells him Billy is getting drunk in the pub and goes over to fetch him home. Todd promises to prove that nothing happened as a result of the accident, he's got a private investigator on the case. Daniel, on a quest for his phone charger, overhears Todd on the phone with said investigator, the tail end of a confidential conversation though Billy's name is not mentioned. No charger found, Daniel leaves but is clearly intrigued at what he may or may not have overheard.

Todd gets a scan of a newspaper headline, it recalls a car crash with local woman Susan Barlow killed. (mind you, I recall Susan was not local at that time, she lived in Newcastle) Todd realizes there was a fatality from the car crash that Billy was involved with. Now what? does he tell Billy and make him feel even worse or does he lie? Even more so, does he tell Adam that Billy was responsible for the death of his mother? Todd lies to Billy. No fatalities. Billy's relief is huge. Todd reiterates the necessity of looking to the future now.

When Summer gets home after school, it's clear that Todd and Billy have been enjoying an afternoon in bed. Billy is full of the joys of life but Todd decides to go back to work. They'll all go out for tea later, though and Summer has time to do her homework first.

In the office, Todd and Adam talk about Summer and things they did as kids to wind up their parents. Meanwhile, Billy and Summer are at the Bistro waiting for Todd who shows up a bit later. Daniel makes a remark about Todd's "grisly" cases which makes Billy look at Todd sharply and he keeps hovering, making pointed remarks, making Todd snap at him. Todd gives Daniel a warning but Daniel says he's just trying to be friendly.

At home, Todd and Summer start a game of chess until she's sent off to bed. Billy questions Todd about the investigator. He knows when Todd is scared and lying. Todd admits there was a fatality. Billy is crushed. Todd reminds him that he wasn't driving but Billy still takes responsibility because he didn't try to get help. Billy is gutted to find out the identity of the woman that died. Peter's twin sister. Adam's mother.

Wednesday 29 November

Johnny steps out of the Kabin and sees Kate passing. He asks her if she'd like to come to Spain with him and Jenny, but she points out that her job, her friends, her life, is in Weatherfield.

Gary and Izzy are going down the Street, talking about Anna and how terrible she looked and how upset she is by Faye's actions. Izzy points out that Faye is in love and felt she had to pick a side, and wonders if now is the time to tell Faye the truth about what Phelan did to Anna. Gary isn't so sure, it's a lot to put on a kid. Izzy says that Anna is banged up and could lose Faye for ever, she needs to know that Phelan raped her mum.

Toyah goes into the cafe and bumps in Rana who asks how little George is. Toyah tells her that Angie says he's stable. Mary is sitting at a table with Norris and immediately pricks up her ears, and asks if Toyah has been to the hospital. Toyah is a bit embarrassed and says she just went there to drop Angie some stuff off as Angie had texted and asked her. As Toyah moves away, Mary turns to Norris and says that she should have been the one to drop stuff off, she's family. Norris is sure it wasn't a deliberate snub. Mary then realises that at least it means they are accepting visitors and jumps to her feet, she can't wait to see her little cherub.

In his car, Robert is on the phone, angry at being denied an extension on his loan. Michelle gets in and asks what it's about and he fobs her off with a tale about a new wine merchant.

In the hospital, Jude and Angie are talking to the doctor, asking why George keeps having these episodes. The doctor says it's a bit of a mystery at the moment, and asks if they think there's anything that Mary could have forgotten to mention as it seems that she was with George each time he's been taken ill. Angie thinks it's very weird, but Jude is sure that Mary couldn't have had a hand in it. The doctor says they could share their concerns with the duty social worker, so Angie says they will.

Aidan is in the cafe, Yasmeen asks how his back is, seeing as he's sleeping on her sofa. She drops hints about him leaving and he says he'll be shipping out soon. Alya comes in then and tells Aidan that Matthew Singh is having a survey done today. Aidan is shocked to realise that means Johnny is definitely selling up. Aidan urges Alya to speak to Kate to get her to talk some sense into Johnny. She tells him to speak to Kate, although he doesn't think Kate will give him the time of day. Alya points out that someone has to make the first move, and she's sure that Kate misses him.

Todd comes in and remarks to Billy that he was up early. Billy says he went for a walk, hoping it might clear his head a bit, but it didn't. Whichever way he looks at it, Adam's mum died because of him. Todd points out that Billy wasn't actually driving the car, but Billy doesn't want to hear that. He says he killed someone and hasn't paid the price for it. Todd says that maybe living side by side with the Barlows is his punishment – it's going to be tough. When Todd leaves the room, Billy picks up his tablet and starts looking for someone called Gareth Brannigan on social media.

Back in the hospital, Mary has arrived at the children's ward and goes in, telling the nurse that she's George's grandmother.

Aidan arrives at the Bistro and tells a rather hostile Kate about the survey. She can't blame Johnny for wanting a hassle-free life in the Spanish sunshine. He asks if she'll speak to him and at first she refuses, but he tells her how sorry he is, he never meant to mess up and put good people out of work, so eventually she says she'll talk to him.

Jude and Angie are in the hospital corridor, talking about Mary. He thinks she wants to blame Mary for everything – he could draw up a list. She says that they must let social services do their thing, she wants to get to the bottom of it. Even the doctor had noticed a pattern, and she's impartial. Jude thinks Angie has never forgiven Mary for calling the police, it's colouring her view of things. Just then the alarm in the baby rooms goes off, and hospital staff start running that way. As Jude and Angie arrive at the door, a nurse hustles Mary out of the room. Angie wants to know what she's done to George, and why was she even in there? Mary says she has done nothing, and she's his grandmother.

Jude, Angie and Mary are waiting for news. Angie can't understand why Mary was even in there, and she replies that she just wanted to keep him company. "Why does it keep happening when you're around?" asks Angie. Mary mutters something about babies getting sick all the time, and adds that she loves George. "New flash – so do we!" snaps Angie, then begs Mary to tell them if she's done something to George. Mary is adamant that she has done nothing wrong.

Kate is in the pub when Alya and Rana come in laughing. Alya reckons it's time for a girls' night out, she's sick of the bad vibes between Kate and Rana, but when it comes to picking an evening, Kate says she's working at every suggestion. When Alya moves away, Rana asks Kate if they can be mates, but Kate says she's got enough mates, and then tells Rana that she's moving to Spain. Jenny is passing at this moment and is taken by surprise, then continues on her way looking less than pleased.

Back in the hospital Mary asks Jude if he thinks she would hurt George. Jude doesn't answer for a few moments, and then starts to say that he knows she loves him, and there may be an innocent explanation. Mary says she would never hurt George, she would never hurt anybody, least of all her grandson. At that moment the doctor comes into the room and says they have stabilised the baby, and the social workers are coming to speak to them. Mary starts to say to the doctor that Jude and Angie are wonderful parents, they don't need social workers sniffing around, but Jude interrupts her and says that actually they'll want to speak to her too, and she should go home.

Elsewhere in the hospital, Robert is waiting for his op, with Michelle holding his hand. She tells him that whatever is in store, they'll get through it together, they're a team.

Kate goes to meet Johnny in the Bistro, and is surprised when he tells her he's pleased she's going to Spain with them. Then Jenny appears and says she's delighted too, but she won't want them cramping her style so she'll go flat hunting with her when they get there.

Gary is in the cafe with Faye, who is prickly towards him. Gary asks about Seb, he's doing well. Gary says he's lucky to have a girlfriend like her, it's a pity she won't go the extra mile for her mum. Faye however, still thinks that Anna pushed her boyfriend off a ladder, although Gary asks if she really believes that, deep down. Gary tells her that Pat has got in Seb's head, but Faye is insistent that Pat has been very good to her and Seb. Gary then tells her that Pat raped Anna, and Faye looks shocked.

Pat meanwhile, is sitting in his van when he sees Nicola get out of car and go into a house.

Mary goes back to the Kabin and tells Norris that Angie thinks that she's hurting George. Tearfully she tells Norris that while they're putting their energies into blaming her, they're not finding out what the real problem is, and even Jude has his doubts about her, and now she's going to be investigated by social services.

Back in the cafe, Gary tells Faye that now she can see why Anna hates Pat Phelan so much. Faye wants to know what the police said, but Gary tells her that Anna didn't report it and then explains about how Pat was working him and Owen into the ground, Owen was screwed financially, and the only way was for Anna to sleep with Phelan. "So she did it for money?" asks Faye, and Gary explains that Pat had CCTV of him beating Pat up, and was going to take it to the police. "So you beat him up, and Mum slept with him for a trade-off?" asks Faye, incredulous. "She slept with him for money, it's called prostitution," she says, adding that Anna didn't tell the police because it wasn't rape. She gets up and picks up her bag to leave. Gary asks where is her compassion, how can she go and sleep under the same roof as that animal, knowing that he raped her mum. She stares at him for a moment and then goes out of the door.
