2017

Wednesday 1 February

Leanne is in the cafe with Eva and Toyah. As she leaves for her medical check up, she urges Toyah to talk to 'Fred', after all if they're in a relationship they should be honest with each other. She doesn't notice Eva and Toyah exchange glances.

Kate goes into the Bistro and asks Nick for a job, telling him she's had lots of experience helping mates out in bars. Eventually he agrees to give her a trial.

Liz is in the cafe, and she asks Anna how it feels to be back at work. Anna says she's fine, and asks when she can go back to her cleaning job at the Rovers. Liz doesn't seem too sure about it and tells her to see how she gets on in the cafe first. Kevin comes in and quietly asks Anna if she's thought ay more about the 'thing' with David. Anna says she doesn't want to take matters any further, it could take years of messing about with solicitors, and how is that going to help them now?

Ken sees Tracy outside the florist and asks her to round up the boys, he wants to talk to them all about something.

Jenny is in a strop with Johnny, she reckons he's called her a gold-digger with all this talk about pre-nups. "Who do you think you are, Kanye West?" she snaps.

Eva and Toyah are walking down the Street, Eva says that when the time comes for Toyah to tell Leanne, she'll do her best to smooth things over. She then goes off to work and Toyah sees Peter leaning on a cab. She goes over to see him, but he's not happy and calls her a liar.

In the cafe, Kevin and Anna are sitting with Adam, and he's giving them some legal tips about finding a 'no win, no fee' solicitor. Anna then tells Kevin she doesn't think she can go on with it, she can't deal with raking it all up again.

In the factory, Sally asks Jenny if Johnny is in, she needs to speak to him. Jenny tries to find out what it's all about, it may be something that she can help with, but Sally isn't going to tell her. Jenny tells her that Mr Connor is a very busy man, but just then Johnny comes over to them and Sally asks if it's still ok to go out for a couple of hours. He says that it is, and as she turns to leave, Sally turns to Jenny and tells her it's for a breast cancer checkup, if she really has to know.

Toyah and Peter are back at the flat and he's cross because, despite all their plans, she's never mentioned wanting children. He wants to know why she's never mentioned all the IVF treatment she's had. "If you've not been honest about this, what else have you been keeping from me?" he says as he storms out, saying he's going to his dad's.

Toyah follows him out, and when they get outside Tim calls out to Peter, asking if he'll take a young lady to the airport. Peter says he will, but Toyah tells him they need to talk, he can't just walk away. The lady gets into the car, and Peter tells Toyah they'll talk later.

Tracy, Adam, Daniel and Ken are all waiting for Peter. Daniel asks if they can't start without him, but Ken says he's not saying anything until Peter arrives.

Peter and his passenger arrive at her destination. She asks if he's going to go back and make peace with his girlfriend, but he tells her he's got to go to a family meeting, he's late for it. Then she asks if he'll join her for a coffee, she's got time to kill and he seems to have the weight of the world on his shoulders.

Toyah goes into the Bistro, wondering if Leanne is back from her appointment. Nick says she isn't, but he thinks she looks like she needs a drink. Kate is still there, and says she can join her if she likes. Then she hurries round the bar and starts to serve her. Toyah spots a jeweler's bag on the bar and peeps inside, asking Nick what he's been buying. He pulls out a ring box, showing her an engagement ring.

Peter and the lady (whose name seems to be Chloe) if it's normal for her to drag random blokes into hotels. She points out that he hardly needed dragged, but he seems interesting. He tells her the family will be waiting for him, it's been lovely and he thanks her for the coffee. She then pays him for his time and he leaves.

Kevin walks into the pub, where Tyrone asks if he's heard from the insurance company. Kevin says he rang them, but still no news. Tyrone then gets cross and goes back to work. Sally comes in and tells Kevin she wants to celebrate, she's just had a check-up, and it's another year cancer free! He hugs her and she asks him to have a drink with her.

Back in the Bistro, Nick is asking Toyah if she thinks Leanne will say yes. Toyah is sure she will, but tells him he must get the proposal right. Just then Leanne comes in and joins them, asking what they're up to. Toyah tells her she just needed some advice, and Nick jumps up and hurries away. Leanne is convinced that the two of them are up to something.

Peter has eventually arrived home, where Ken tells them that he's given his doctor 'Do Not Resuscitate' instructions. He adds that Adam has been helping him sort out his will, his priority being to make sure they are all provided for once he's gone. Tracy gets upset by all of this and rushes out of the front door. Ken asks Daniel and Peter to go after her and make sure she's ok. Once left with Adam, Ken tells him he's pleased to hear he's taking his solicitors' exams, and once he's passed he might help him get started. He says he knows Adam is upset at being put with the grandchildren in the will, but he is as important to Ken as anybody.

In the pub, Sally asks Kevin what he's going to do about Tyrone. He doesn't know, but tells her he wants Anna to make a claim against David, then they could at least get some cash together. Sally tells him that as some of his money troubles are due to Sophie going to America without travel insurance, she would like to help him out, and will pay seven thousand pounds into his account, after all Sophie is her daughter too.

Kevin goes off back to work, and Jenny comes in and asks how Sally got on at her appointment. She says she was out of order earlier and shouldn't have stuck her nose in, she wants to apologise. Sally accepts the apology, she says life is too short for petty feuds. Jenny sits down with her and they get into conversation, and Sally mentions how hard it is to find a decent mastectomy bra, and Jenny says that she's never really thought about that. She stares at her for a moment or two, then she gets up and says she'll see Sally back at work.

Gary goes into the cafe and asks Anna what was going on with Kevin and Adam Barlow. He tells her not to let anyone push her into anything she doesn't want to do. Anna tells him she doesn't want to but they need to get some money out of David. She's sorry if it puts him into a sticky situation with Sarah but she doesn't know what else she can do.

Toyah goes into the cab office and asks Tim to contact Peter, but Tim tells her that since Peter went off on the airport job earlier he hasn't been answering calls. Toyah asks what he thinks Peter has been up to. "Pretty girl, hotel drop off, I can guess," says Tim, adding that he's had jobs coming out of his ears.

Kevin tells Anna he wouldn't blame her for doing a runner, having to cope with a loser like him. She tells him that maybe it's worth a try.

Toyah goes back to the flat to find Peter, and wonders why he was with that woman in a hotel for at least an hour. Peter tells her that if she must know, they were talking about her. Then they start to argue about how she didn't mention the IVF. She tells him she had a choice to go back with Toby and try again, or stay with him and she chose him. "How stupid am I?" she asks. Then she tells him it's over, and storms out.

Anne Logan.

Friday 3 February

Hello, let's get going with the first Friday episode.

We start out with Leanne and Toyah discussing Toyah's mystery man and the argument they had. She tells Leanne that he seemed to think she just wanted him as a sperm donor. The relationship is well and truly dead, she thinks. There's been no phone call, no text. . .

Pretty much the same thing's going on in the taxi office, where Peter's telling Tim all about "Wilma." He moans that they don't want the same things. Tim says they shouldn't. He uses the analogy of it being fine for him to sit on the sofa watching the telly, having a beer and maybe letting go a fart or two. That's fine for him, but if Sally started doing the same thing he's be worried! He tells Peter that men and women aren't chalk and cheese - they're cheese and pickle: Different but complementary.

Anna, Kevin, Fay and Jack leave the house and chat about Fay needing new shoes. Anna won't let Kevin pay for them. She'll find the money. She sees David and shouts at him that she'd like a word with him if he could call into the cafe later on. David agrees but looks puzzled.

Kirk clears away the bedding from the sofa while Chesney makes special sandwiches for Sinead. But when she comes down she's less than grateful. She can make her own sandwiches and wishes he hadn't but she takes them anyway. She goes off to work and Chesney confidently tells Kirk that it'll all work out if he just keeps plugging away.

As they clock in for work, Kate and Alya discuss Jenny and the pre-nup, only to find Jenny's got to work before them and is busy sewing. She's making a prototype of a new mastectomy bra. Kate thinks it's a good idea but Alya demands to know whether Mr Connor is OK with this. She doesn't think Jenny should be going ahead without approval. Jenny says that's nothing to do with junior management and she'll tell Johnny once she's got a properly thought out proposal ready with prototype. "That's called professionalism," she tells Alya. "You might want to look it up some time."

Back in Leanne and Nick's flat, Toyah makes a cup of tea and a text arrives on her phone, which is next to Leanne on the sofa. It's from Fred and says: "Sorry 4 yesterday. I've got to CU xxx" (as if someone who writes in text-speak would stop to put in an apostrophe!). Leanne replies, pretending to be Toyah and asking him to come to the flat. He replies straight away that he'll be there and Leanne deletes the whole thread, at the same time telling Toyah she shouldn't write off "Fred" too soon. Her cunning plan is somewhat spoilt when Nick arrives and insists he needs Toyah to help out in a staff shortage. Toyah insists on going with him against Leanne's protests.

Tim tells off Peter. It's bad enough that he sent a text to "Wilma" and he certainly shouldn't have replied to hers straight away. It never hurts to keep women on their toes. Peter says he's not playing games and goes off to get changed.

Johnny's getting ready to go and see Richard Drake, a potential client who deals in huge volumes and who can take his pick of suppliers. Kate would like a word but he brushes her off because he's running late. Sally goes over to Jenny. She's got the number of one of the mastectomy ladies for Jenny to contact. She looks at the sample Jenny's been making. "Oh, you've done a smashing job," she says. "I know we haven't always seen eye to eye but that's really thoughtful."

In the Bistro we see why Toyah was happy to go with Nick. She's helping him organise proposing to Leanne. He's sprinkling rose petals over the floor. Leanne rings Toyah and tells her she's lost her house keys so can't go out because she'd have to leave the flat insecure. Toyah says she'll come right over.

Leanne's in the flat when there's a knock on the door. It's Peter, who looks a bit surprised to see Leanne. "What are you doing here?" she asks.

Peter's apparently come to talk about getting Simon a new pair of football boots, but he doesn't know the size. Leanne tells him but it's too late because she's already bought him a new pair. And by the way, isn't that shirt a bit too good to wear while driving around a taxi? Peter says he likes to make an effort. Leanne reckons she could have smelt his aftershave all the way up the stairs. Toyah arrives back and Leanne says she's found her keys after all. She confesses that she needed to get Toyah back there and tells her about the text exchange. "So when's he coming?" Toyah asks. "Ten minutes ago," Leanne says. Toyah's really annoyed that Leanne interfered and when Peter says something she snaps, "Do you mind! It's got even less to do with you then it does with her!" She tells Leanne that Nick needs her over in the Bistro. As Peter follows Leanne down the stairs he signals to Toyah to stay in the flat.

Kirk plays marriage counselor to Sinead. She doesn't know what she wants. Kirk says it's unfair to keep Chesney hanging.

Emma, the bra lady, turns up with a gaggle of other women, all keen to see a pretty mastectomy bra. Alya steps out of the office and disapproves. She says Jenny should focus on the work she's paid to do. Jenny explains to Emma that her fiance owns the factory. The phone goes in the officer and Jenny suggests Alya answer it - it's what she's paid to do. The phone call is from Johnny. He's bringing the client over to see the factory. Alya says that will be fine. She looks almost gleeful.

In the hair salon, David talks to Sarah and tells her what Anna said. Sarah's got no idea what Anna wants to talk about.

Fay tells Anna that Tim's taking her to get some new shoes. He's happy to help, he says, because Sally has told him how they're placed. He lets slip that Sally has given Kevin 7,000 pounds.

Peter's back at the flat trying to talk to Toyah. She keeps interrupting but he finally manages to say he'd like to be flexible and they can talk about having a baby. "But no amount of talking can give me what I want," Toyah tells him. Peter asks if it's a choice between a baby and him. "Only if you turn it into that sort of choice," she says.

David's surprised when his next client is Chesney, who wants a trendy haircut.

Toyah tries to explain to David how long she's wanted a baby and how much she wants one. She says being with him was like a break from all of the IVF and other stuff, so that's why she never brought it up - she didn't want it intruding on their time but wanted to enjoy her time off that treadmill. Peter asks what will happen if he gets on to the treadmill. She says then she'll know she's found someone who loves her enough to try.

In the Bistro, Nick's practising his proposal speech.

Leanne's on her way there but she's stopped at the Kabin for sweets and meets Tim as she's going out. She offers him a sweet and he comments that Rhubarb and Custard never let you down, unlike real people. He mentions that Peter's gone AWOL. He's gone looking for his new woman, "Wilma." As he witters on, the penny drops and Leanne stands stock still.

Good evening. Here I am back on my own beat. A very quiet week this week in the real world for various reasons whilst things continue to develop in Weatherfield. This is episode 9093. It was written by Chris Fewtrell and it was directed by Mickey Jones. Copyright remains the property of ITV to whom many thanks. Funking in the background is the Craig Charles Funk and Soul show on Radio 6. It may intrude on events.

We open in Nick's flat where Wilma and Fred, sorry Toyah (also known as R'Toyota) and Peter are discussing babies. In simple terms she wants one more than anything and Peter doesn't. Has she heard of a turkey baster - no never mind. Apparently she never loved Toby the way she loves Peter and he strokes her face and then moves in for a kiss. Inevitably at this point the door opens dramatically and Leanne waddles in wearing her coat and a tunderous look on her face to catch them! "Fred and Wilma I presume?" and they both stand and turn to face her.

Over at the factory Jenny is demonstrating her prototype bra to the breast cancer ladies - not to Alya's amusement! Sinead is making tea all round and they can see it looks elegant and well made and Jenny is happy to tweak the design for any suggestions they might have. They are already impressed and one of their number, Rachel, writes for the Gazette. Jenny credits Sally with the original discussion which led to the idea. Rachel will be happy to write a piece for the paper if they do go into production. Johnny returns with potential clients whom he is assuring that they run a very tight ship - to see no work being done and a gaggle of strange women in the corner. Alya tells Jenny they should all get back to work. Jenny says when the tea has been finished. Alya then turns round and tells Mr Connor that she tried to get them working. Jenny turns round stunned. Johnny grabs a cup of tea from Dirk (NOT KIRK, DIRK - a different employee). The new customer asks about the tight ship he runs. Johnny is unable to answer and Alya looks the cat who got the cream as she smiles at Jenny. Jenny is all smiles whilst Sally has pursed lips.

We cut to the garage where Anna is telling Kev she is concerned about facing David Platt. Kev thinks David will want to settle out of court. Anna does not think so. And they need the money don't they? He agrees and she calls him a liar. She cannot believe he was going to make her relive the worst day of her life when he has Sally's money burning a hole in his overalls. Why did she have to hear it from Tim and not from Kev? He was waiting for the right moment; Anna observes just after David's cheque clears. She refuses to sue David. Belatedly he says it is only £7k. Anna says he did a deal with his ex-wife behind her back. He claims it was a mistake. She says he makes a lot of them. He says it is not his fault that the insurers will not pay out. Unaware to either of them Tyrone comes into earshot just as Kev says this. "You what?" says Tyrone.

We cut back to Leanne shouting "Fred and Wilma! You must be laughing your heads off". She is not sure why she did not see it (I did months before Toyah returned). Toyah tries to calm her down - but there is no calming Leanne at the moment. Peter and Toyah both say this was why they had not told her - they knew she would kick off. So they have been betraying her for her benefit! They argue but Leanne does not want to know. Peter says they have done nothing wrong - he was single and Toyah was in a bad marriage. Leanne has the answer - they are sisters and exes are out of bounds and she knows it. Exes with the name Peter especially. She continues to rant at the two of them.

Jenny is telling Johnny that she did not know he was bringing clients back. Alya claims she tried to tell Jenny but she would not listen. Johnny begs the client not to go. Jenny fronts the clients up explaining that the events are down to her. Mr Connor did not know but he encourages his workforce to use their initiative. The ladies are from a breast cancer clinic - which I attended adds Sally really trying to help Jenny, which given past history was really nice, she adds that the available mastectomy bras are not great and Jenny ran up a prototype - and Jenny adds that Underworld might put a range into production. The client says very commendable, if a little niche. Rachel advises him that 20,000 mastectomies are performed every year, most of them on women. A large niche observes Jenny. And Rachel adds she will be writing an article for the Gazette if it goes live. The client observes that finding gaps in the market is hard these days. He wants to discuss it further and they go into Johnny's office, Jenny is asked to join them and she takes great pleasure in shutting the door in Alya's face excluding her from the meeting. Johnny asks Sal to look after the visitors.

Kev is explaining to Tyrone that there was a loophole in the insurance policy small print. He had not told Tyrone because he did not want to worry him. Kev thought he could turn the business round - but he cannot even afford to pay the staff at the moment. Anna explains that they had been hoping that suing David Platt would provide the funds needed. Kev says it was the only solution he could come up with. But he did and he would have made Anna go through it in court she replies. She shakes her head at him and goes.

Eva walks into the empty bistro (I assume Nick has closed it for the day) to find a slightly forlorn Nick who is waiting to ask Leanne a question. Eva looks round and spots what the question might be. Eva congratulates him. Eva is sure she will accept. She is probably eating a cream slice rather than being in the Bistro. He tells Eva not to phone her as he has sent Toyah to find her. He does not want to overdo the searching as she loves surprises.

Peter says he knows it is all a bit of a surprise (after all Leanne likes surprises) but they had hoped she would be pleased for them. Does Leanne want her sister to be happy? Toyah chimes in - Peter is the best thing to happen to her. Leanne says she should get out more. Leanne finally tells them they are welcome to each other, Toyah asks her not to go as she storms out - she wants her friendship. But Leanne goes saying she should have thought of that sooner. Peter says she was irrational, but Toyah says she does have a point. She has never seen Leanne like that - but Peter has and she never gets over it. Toyah knew it was wrong and she shut her eyes to it. Toyah thinks that Leanne will never accept them together - but Peter does not want to give in. Toyah says they must and anyway he does not want a baby. Peter does want Toyah and if having a baby is part of the package, making him the oldest dad in the playground, then so be it. Toyah can hardly believe her ears.

Sinead is lumping along the Street and Chesney greets her as he emerges from the salon. She is not sure if she likes the haircut. Ches observes it is fashionable. Sinead does not see him as fashionable. Ches says it is time he changed taking more of an effort. She almost tells him and then says she will see him later. Chesney walks away disconsolate. Sinead is heading to Roy's and meets Daniel coming out, he suggests she needs to smile, does she want to talk - but she says she does not have time. He says he is student and nothing but time and suggests going to the Rovers. And he is buying.

Nick is pulling the petals off a rose. Apparently the champagne is now warm, the flowers wilted and Eva can try and trakc down Leanne. At which point Leanne slams through the door and is still shouting about she could not see it when it was under her nose the whole time! Apparently she is absolutely fuming!! Toyah comes in and wants to talk to Leanne who responds by telling her to get lost. Toyah says they cannot leave things like this. Eva and Nick beat a retreat to the kitchen. Leanne gives Toyah the absolute evils.

After the break Eva is briefing Nick about what Simon saw. Si and Eva did not want Leanne or the baby to suffer. Eva will tear the skinny cow and Peter apart if anything happens to Leanne. And of course Peter was never after Leanne. Eva knows this has been going on for months. Nick was definitely wrong about Peter.

In the Rovers Jenny is told by Johnny that the client was putty in her hands. Well Jenny said she wanted to prove herself to him. With Kate they sit in a booth and Jenny makes an announcement they if they do negotiate when married it will not be over money -she will sign the pre-nup as she has thought about it and wants to prove she is not a gold digger. Nor does she want to be a kept woman. Johnny says if Aidan showed half the nous that Jenny did today he would have retired years ago. He suggests she goes shopping for a business suit. In the background we see Kate's face as she clocks with dismay Jenny's ability to get her way.

In the other booth Sinead has a face like wet weekend - it is hard at home with Ches sleeping on the sofa. and it is causing nothing but trouble. Sinead knows Ches deserves better. She could make it work but Daniel points out it is not what she wants. What does she want? This minute she will settle for a bag of salt and vinegar, which he gets. Her smile returns.

Ty and Fiz are in the cafe discussing how Kev does not share running the business with his partner. Tyrone says he wants to know if he is about to be dragged over a cliff. He reckons that they have spent 12 months getting out debt and he does not want to go back there. It looks like the workforce will need downsizing. Ty reckons that they have managed so well without Sophie she is the one to go. Fiz does not think Kev will sack his own daughter - but Ty is certain.

R'Toyota starts by telling Leanne that she knows how much she means to her. Leanne says she does now, somehwat acidly. Leanne says it is not like borrowing a top and not asking. R'Toyota points out she always kicked off then as well. Leanne thought she could count on Toyah - but now she has lied to her. Toyah admits it was wrong, but she needs Lee to forgive her as she needs her sister in her life. Leanne makes it clear just what Toyah has to do to become R'Toyota again. Toyah replies that it is not easy - she loves him. Leanne counters that Peter does not love her - he might say it; he might think it but Peter only loves Peter. Toyah believes he has changed whilst Leanne thinks he has changed Toyah - she never used to be gullible. Leanne is crying. Toyah says Peter has helped her through some very difficult times - the IVF was failing, they were running out of money, marriage in pieces, Toyah felt a total failure and was tired of fighting and losing. Peter saved her. Made her feel normal again - and have a life worth living. And she could not go to Leanne who had troubles of her own. Leanne says "But Peter, of all people!". Toyah says it could not have been anyone else and Leanne realises that she feels strongly for Peter. Toyah says she would not have risked all of this for Mr Right Now. She tried not to fall in love. For Leanne's sake and for Toby's. But without Peter she could not have carried on. Leanne's face changes as she realises that R'Toyota really means it all.

At the factory Kate goes into the office and delivers a cuppa to Johnny. Now he is worried - it will have two sugars and an agenda. Kate tells him she is handing in her notice. And it is not because of Jenny (yes it is), she is glad it is working out for them. She needs a proper challenge. Johnny counters by saying "No offence to Kirk, but we do need a functioning brain in packing". She says her heart is not in the rag trade, so she has a job at the Bistro. Her first shift was enjoyable and it felt like a good fit - she knows he is happy at work and she wants that as well. She feels like she is letting him down. Johnny gives her a huge hug and is not worried what she is doing providing she is happy.

On the factory floor Sinead is telling Kirk (Kirk not Dirk) that she is out of order over her and Chesney. After all Beth is his taskmaster! Sinead says Chesney has done nothing wrong and should not be sleeping on the sofa - he should be in his own bed. Kirk assumes that Sinead will also be in the bed. She makes it clear that she will not be there. It is over.

Tyrone walks up to Kev in the garage. They agree they do not want another argument. But it needs to be sorted. They talk and are clearly both talking about making someone redundant - Kev thinks it is a pity it has to be someone so close to Ty - Kev thinks Freddie should go on last in first out basis. Ty says it is not his fault - it is Sophie's (actually it has rather more to do with Pat Phelan). So Ty makes it clear that Sophie must go. Kev demurs. Ty points out that they have managed without anyone in the office - they need Freddie as a mechanic. Tyrone refuses to back down. He ponts out that he may have lied to the police - so they will do things his way in future.

Leanne tells Toyah that she picked the scabbiest knight in shining armour ever. Leanne accepts that perhaps Fate has a funny sense of humour. Toyah says that Peter got her through. She is not asking for Leanne's blessing - just understanding. Nick and Eva return and Nick says that Eva has told him what is going on. Leanne blows up again. Then Toyah admits that Eva was keeping Simon's secret. So all of Leanne's family knew! She goes back to being mad with the world. Eva wanted to tell her - but were aware of her condition. Toyah would have told her once she had had the baby. Leanne cannot believe that they kept her in the dark. She adds "You WERE my sisters". Toyah says she still is - but Leanne says she is not. Leanne storms out of the bistro and Toyah, Eva and Nick look at each other, with Toyah getting the closing shot, reflecting on how much she has upset her sister.

Roll credits.

And another proposal bites the dust. Will Nick and Leanne ever marry again (is it the third time)?

Kev / Anna - yes Kev is in the wrong - but Sal's £7k is half of Sophie's medical bill - and not really aprt of the garage problem at all. But then Kev has never been a good communicator. Ty and Kev might consider Sophie working for nothing to get in extra business until they were making a profit - she might even offer it?

And looking at the end of the episode have Eva and R'Toyota gone from hating each other to being friends - nothing is that simple is it?

Finally in the words of Mrs Dale I am still very worried about Emily Bishop or perhaps that should be Eileen Derbyshire.

See you next week.

Written by Perrie Balthazar Directed by Diana Patrick

Anna is still not too happy with Kevin and Kevin is getting bad news upon bad news with Tyrone considering retracting his statement to the police that gave Kevin an alibi for the fire. Anna thinks Kevin needs to keep from winding Tyrone up but he just can't help himself. Kevin refuses to sack Sophie but he's right about one thing, if Tyrone retracts his statement, he would get into trouble as well for lying. Tyrone wasn't happy that Kevin didn't tell Sophie she was sacked but Freddie's right. She's only just got home but it looks like Tyrone is taking matters into his own hands.

Anna's in a very bad mood at work too, snapping at Shona and hollering at Faye for lingering, hoping Seb would show up and surprise her. Oh how I remember teenage love/crushes! Seb seems to be dangling her on a string, doesn't he? He even eyes up other women when he's standing right beside Faye. Seb then decides it's a good idea to steal a power tool from the back yard of Number 11, Phelan's tools. Oh dear. He's crossed the wrong psychopath this time.

At least, for now, David's off Anna's hook and Kevin has a distraction. Not only is Sophie back, but Rosie has come with her. (take notice of that leopard print bag that the taxi driver forgot to unload, it'll be important though not in this episode) Rosie's full on, isn't she? Just as shallow as she ever was, nice to see some things don't change. Still, her homecoming turned out to be quite eventful with the arrival of the police who want to search the house. For what???

Over at the cafe, Shona found a stuffed toy under the table where David and the kids were. Why did she throw it out? She must have realized who it belonged to. She found it only minutes after he and the children left. David brought Lily back to look for it and Shona said she hadn't seen it but of course she had. Strange.

Now that the secret's out, Toyah can move in with Peter and she's going to be working behind the bar where everyone can gawp at her. Peter has to tell his father he's seeing the sister of his ex-wife. Adam finds it amusing that Peter's had sisters. Ken just sighs. "Peter!" the way he does. Ken knows darn well Peter's relationships usually end in flames. Meanwhile, that Chloe from the taxi the other week has come looking for Peter to drive her somewhere and then pick her up and take her somewhere else. She's very flattering though. Peter likes it but seems to be keeping it on a professional basis.

And with Leanne still in an uproar, poor Simon is worried. Nick make him smile by telling him he's going to propose when the time is right and told him where the ring was hidden (sweaty gym bag). Toyah and Eva tried to make peace and show a united front but Leanne wasn't having it. None of it. Simon wasn't happy. He thinks she's jealous when she's got a great bloke, Nick, and he wants to marry her. Simon even finds the ring where Nick hid it and showed her. Doh!

Sinead is sleeping on the sofa but she's being civil to Chesney who's begging and pleading for her to come back to him. I would think if she's split with him, she should be finding somewhere else to stay. Maybe she can rent Maria's flat for a bit? Poor Chesney. Nothing can cheer him up, not even a big hug from Gemma. Gemma thinks playing hard to get will do the trick and Fiz takes it upon herself to lay a guilt trip on Sinead to make sure she doesn't give up on Chesney until they've given it their best try. But Sinead unloads on Daniel who wants to help her make her decision. Seems like he's never been much of a ladies' man like his brother and father.

Daniel and Adam are still bickering. It must be a war zone in that flat between the two of them on at each other all the time. Adam's not having much luck studying for his exam to transfer his law qualifications and he's not trying very hard either, he's trying to get someone to get hold of the exam so he can cheat! But Adam's method of "studying" is too noisy for Daniel who's trying to study as well. All he wants is a quiet place to study but Sinead says she can help him there. Stay tuned to find out how.

As the police start to search the house Kevin thinks he's the guilty party but it turns out they're looking for drugs and they make a beeline for Rosie's suitcase. Sophie asks Anna why Kevin assumed he's the one under investigation. All she'll tell her is that he has a few money worries at the moment. The police ask Sophie to open her suitcase.

Out in the street it's all action round the cafe's rubbish bin. First Shona sorts through the black bags to retrieve Lily's toy rabbit and then Seb and Faye come along. Seb is about to hide the stolen drill in the bin when Phelan creeps up behind and makes him jump.

Round at the Bistro Nick is unblocking the kitchen sink when Leanne appears. He doesn't want her anywhere near the fumes from the drain cleaner but Leanne is on a mission. She opens the ring box and asks Nick to finish what he started earlier. It's hardly the romantic proposal that Nick had planned but with encouragement from Leanne he gets down on one knee amongst the potato peelings and she flings her arms round him and says yes even before Nick has popped the question.

Phelan arrives home with Faye and Seb. Eileen's all for taking him to the police when she hears what he's done but Phelan has other ideas. He tells Seb he can help him install the new kitchen at number 1 and, since Seb's already been excluded from school, it looks like he doesn't have much choice in the matter.

Back at Kevin's he's telling Sophie the full extent of his financial troubles while the police conclude their search. They produce Rosie's passport, followed by a plastic bag of white powder. The police ignore Rosie's claim that it's sweetener for her tea and arrest her for being in possession of Class A drugs.

Across the street, Johnny is handing the factory keys to Sinead who is going to do some overtime. She's told him she wants to earn some extra money so she can treat Chesney to a weekend away.

Sinead is joined by Daniel who notices a car parked outside number 13 and reckons it's an unmarked police vehicle. As if on cue, a regular police car draws up outside and Rosie and Sophie are brought out under arrest. This doesn't go unnoticed by Freddy and Ty in the garage who catch Kevin's eye.

Peter is sitting in his cab outside Streetcars counting a pile of £20 notes when he spots Toyah. He tells her she may not have had much joy with Leanne but he still loves her. To prove a point he hands her the keys to his flat and says it's only the beginning. He tells her he meant what he said this morning, he wants them to try for a baby. He can afford it, continues Peter, what with his job and the rent money from Tracy.

Kevin marches over to the garage to confront Ty as he's convinced he tipped off the police about the drugs. Ty is furious at the accusation and it's only Jack's arrival that stops them starting a fight.

Rosie is being checked in at the police station where her claim to be a model/hostess raises a wry smile from the desk sergeant. She asks if they're sure her sister can't stay with her while she's interviewed as she's pressure phobic and her mouth has a habit of running away with her. "It had better not do," mutters Sophie as Rosie's led away.

Sinead has asked Daniel to join her in the factory. In theory this is so he can have some peace and quiet to study while she does her overtime but he seems more interested in admiring her sketches.

The scene moves to the police station where we see Sophie being interviewed. They ask her about Rosie's friends in the States. According to Sophie they're mainly would-be actors and models, most of whom find it hard to walk and talk at the same time. She denies bringing anything back to the UK for anyone and tells the police she wouldn't be that stupid.

Meanwhile next door Rosie is telling the cops all about her boyfriend Antoine who has a "portfolio career" as a DJ/roadie and paid for her plane ticket home. She's horrified at the suggestion she might have taken drugs and tells the policeman that her body is her temple.

Back at home Kevin is pacing the floor in frustration as Anna asks him if he's sure that the tip-off came from Tyrone. As if his day couldn't get any worse a furious Sally turns up wanting to know why Kevin was too busy to ring her to let her know that their daughters had been arrested.

In the Rovers Sean's relishing the gossip about Rosie. His theory is that she was arrested by the fashion police for bringing Barbie dolls into disrepute.

Gemma and Chesney are playing darts for drinks. He's concerned about getting too drunk but Gemma thinks it will do him good. She advises him to let Sinead go to bed pining for him. Just then Johnny comes in to the Rovers. He tells Chesney how lucky he is to have a girl who is working hard to earn extra money to treat him to a trip away.

We return to the factory where Sinead is sitting at her sewing machine. She suddenly becomes aware that Daniel seems upset. He tells her he's been reading poetry and he comes across to explain its meaning. The two of them are very close and the tension between them is palpable. Sinead suggests they do another hour of work before they lock up. Daniel moves his chair away but tells Sinead that some distractions he can live with …

Sophie and Rosie arrive back from the police station to everyone's great relief. Anna's saved them some tea but Rosie's keen to get back to Sally's and have a bath. Before she goes Sally produces a hold-all. Apparently Rosie left it in the back of the taxi and Tim managed to retrieve it. Rosie's delighted as it contains her make-up bag and a few little "homeland treats" that Antoine asked her to bring back for his friend Greg. We see a frown cross Sophie's face as she takes in this piece of news.

Toyah and Peter go into the Rovers for a drink. Toyah was hoping to avoid seeing Leanne but unfortunately for her she and Nick had the same idea. She expresses surprise as she didn't think they normally drank in there but as Sean says, you'll drink anywhere when you're celebrating. He realises he may have let the cat out of the bag.

Shona goes into the Rovers looking for David. She's put Lily's rabbit through the wash and wants to return it. As she leaves Gemma tells Chesney she still can't remember where she recognizes Shona from.

Nick and Leanne are aware of Toyah watching them. Nick says that now they're happy and have everything they want Leanne should be the bigger person and make the first move. Leanne agrees – she has everything she needs.

Sophie and Rosie are back at Sally's. Now they're on their own Sophie asks Rosie about the "homeland treats". Rosie tells her it's stuff like chocolate and Koolaid "Open it," commands Sophie placing a container on the table. Rosie can't believe her sister is making such a fuss so Sophie opens the canister. Her worst fears are realised as she lifts out what looks like a very large pack of cocaine. Rosie swears she had no idea and she's so ditzy that this is bound to be the case. "Does he know where we live?" asks Sophie. Rosie can't bring herself to speak and simply nods in reply.

Wednesday 8 February

Good evening. This will be a relatively short update this evening as I am using non-standard technology and cannot stop and start the recording easily.

This episode was written by Jonathan Harvey and it was directed by Diana Patrick. Copyright remains the property of ITV to whom many thanks.

We open with Daniel drinking coffee and Adam looking to be wished luck as today is his big exam. Adam is sure he will pass. He looks at Adam's search history on his laptop.

Billy is talking to Shona who is sweeping the Street outside the cafe. Rosie rocks up, confuses two films - or was it a song and then asks if it is a queue noting how much more popular it all is since she was last here. Rosie tells us that they do not queue in the States - but stand in line. Inside Shona asks Billy what he would like and Rosie completely oblivious to the queue asks for an egg white omelette with spinach because she knows it is no good asking for kale. Shona denies that there is any spinach. So an egg white omelette with loads of black pepper and hot sauce on top. Shona asks if she is taking the mick. Rosie totters over to a table to take some selfie / instagrams with a retro bottle of tomato sauce. As air-headed as ever. Sophie comes in and asks Rosie how she could be so stupid as not to know that Anton was a drug dealer. Rosie thought she was just doing someone a good turn with some home comforts! Rosie thought he was the "one" - but he was just using her! Apparently he has completely disappeared off social media and further more is not answering his phone. Sophie wants to tell the police the truth. Rosie is not keen and suggests they just deliver it to Greg and then they can forget about it.

Sinead is doing her makeup and singing along with the radio whilst being watched by Kirk who is cuddling his little pooch (the dog not Beth). Things are no better with Chesney. However as she heads off to Underworld Chesney stops her and invites her for a spot of tea at the Bistro tonight. She thinks she is working late again. She goes and Kirk observes to Chesney that he has a good feeling about Chesney and Sinead.

Gary and Sarah are surprised that Bethany is doing so well at school. Bethany goes and David comes downstairs to hear Sarah call Gary cute! Max and Lily are making a thank you card for Shona for finding the rabbit. They give it to David to give to Shona.

About 11 Daniel is working in the cafe and Sinead comes in on the cake run. Adam is getting coffee at the counter (I thought he had an exam?). Sinead goes to order and Adam comes across to Daniel and asks him to name Richard Branson's company. Daniel professes innocence - but Adam of course wants to be able to label Daniel as "Virgin". Adam saw what Daniel was searching earlier - "How to drive her wild on your first time". Daniel tells Adam to do one. Peter asks what is going on - but gets little out of either of them before Adam departs. Sinead comes over to Daniel - she is working late and he can come and do work at the factory. He insistently tells her no and when she demurs he says it again asking if she is thick as well as daft (he of course has been riled by the reference to virgin oil and the forty virgins by his nephew Adam). Peter watches with a brotherly eye.

David is cutting Billy's hair and Kirk is next in line. David asks Billy about Shona - but he is not giving much away. David recounts the odd story of the suddenly re-appearing bunny. Billy being a Christian (cf Tracy Ullman show) tells David to give her the benefit of the doubt.

Peter catches Adam in the Street and wants to know about the fuss earlier with Daniel. "Baby Daniel is a virgin - would you believe it?" Adam asks Peter. Peter tells Adam to grow up. Sinead is eating fish and chips and Ches comes out of the kebab shop to give Ty his change. She runs up to Ches and agrees to meet him later for tea at the Bistro about 7. He is over the moon.

Seb (Faye's boyfriend for those who have as much memory as me) is working for Pat Phelan on Ken's kitchen [which as I write this a month later is still being sorted]. Seb looks through some drawers and finds Uncle Albert's medals which he half inches not knowing that Pat is watching him.

At Kev's home Rosie and Sophie are arguing. Rosie is going to Greg's and Sophie is not going to stop her. For protection Rosie throws the iron into her huge shoulder bag. Rosie says she is a big girl now and tells Sophie to get out of her way. She pushes Sophie aside and totters out of the front door at high heel speed (slow).

After the break leather trousered Rosie is walking past some overflowing bins using her phone for navigation and with Sophie running along behind. Rosie lets her come along as they head for Clement Atlee court. Looks far from salubrious, with hugs dogs barking.

Back at Ken's Seb is yawning - he is bored. Seb denies he stole the medal to Pat when challenged but Pat has him bang to rights and Ken will know that one of the two of them took it. Pat tells him to put it back and they will say nothing more about it. Pat says that Seb could learn a lot from him - just remember who is the boss. Seb asks if Pat is grooming him - but Pat just wants cheap labour (and Seb is only 15). Looks like Pat is lining up another control-bot.

At their destination Rosie is banging on a chipboard door secured externally after the police have broken down the original. They meet a scruffy neighbour who tells the girls that Greg was lifted by the police yesterday on a surprise visit and is banged up. It is likely that Greg has sung like a canary (all the time there is loud music from another house across the Court). Sophie grabs Rosie's arm and hustles her away.

Peter has dropped in on Daniel - the latter reckons Adam is like a Scottish Tigger bouncing off the walls. Peter observes that Daniel could wake up tomorrow no longer a virgin - but Adam will still be a fool. Peter says there will be a woman out there somewhere for him. Daniel has been packing stuff - but says it is for the charity shop. Peter convinces him to stay.

Shona is also singing along with the radio (to the Corrs!) in the cafe as she clears up when David comes in. He hands over the thank you card. Shona does not seem overjoyed. David asks her a question about her lack of emotion - but does not get an answer. She reads the card and is obviously close to tears. The Corrs are still running away when she stuffs the card into the black rubbish bag.

Gary and Bethany return to the Platt mansion - where Bethany has had some parcels arrive. It has a little note which Says "Enjoy. Nx" So from Nathan. They are beauty products and she then shows them the videos she has been making with Nathan. She is going to be Weatherfield's Zoella. [I am confused - Bethany has been shooting these videos at Nathan's salon - yet this one has been shot in the Platt front room with Sarah's underwear visible in the background].

Sinead is sat in Underworld all on her own - not working either. Daniel comes in and says he is sorry. She claims she did not notice. He says he is not used to feeling like this. he cannot stop thinking about Sinead. He tells her he really likes her. But is she really on her own? She does not want to be with Chesney - but why would she want to give Daniel a second chance? Daniel gets much closer to her and they kiss. She then grabs him and pulls him much closer for another kiss.

It is dark on the Street and Peter sees Adam emerging from the Rovers. Adam observes it was easy. Sophie and Rosie pass by and Adam observes that Rosie does not get uglier! She tells him not now. Once inside Sophie wants to flush the drugs down the toilet. Adam tries his luck again with Rosie - again not now. Rosie enumerates the potential consequences of getting rid of the drugs if someone turns up for them.

Chesney has smartened himself up and is waiting in the Bistro for the love of his life. A new waitress delivers a drink and Chesney says he will read the menu so the extra says OK. He has bought Sinead a huge bunch of Tracy's best.

In the factory Daniel is banging Sinead against a wall as they kiss hard and passionately. Daniel looks at the clothes and tells her they would look good on the floor. Did he get that from the cheese counter at Freschco's? she asks. And then she takes his hand and leads him to the storeroom. He enthusiastically follows her. The door closes behind them.

Roll credits.
Did you spot Peter's remarkably prescient prediction?
What will Rosie and Sophie do next?
How long will Chesney wait in the Bistro?
And what wicked plan will Seb follow for Pat?
Finally in the words of Mrs Dale I am still very worried about Emily Bishop or perhaps that should be Eileen Derbyshire.

See you on Friday.

Richard

Friday 10 February

we begin with Billy, Todd and Shona leaving the house together and Todd making a snide comment to Shona. When she's gone, Billy tells him off.

Sinead's folding bedding from the sofa. Kirk is worried. He thinks this is all getting out of hand. He says he's not being judgmental, he just cares. He thinks everything will work out but Sinead says not to count on it. When Chesney comes downstairs she apologises to him and says she's ready to talk now. Before she can begin, Dev calls Chesney to tell him the delivery driver is running early. She says she'll make something nice for his tea. Chesney goes off to the kebab shop. Kirk still looks worried.

Rosie's doing an exercise routine from 1969 and has just started on star jumps when Tim comes in. He doesn't know where to look. He can't find the biscuit tin (it might be that one Sophie shoved behind the cushions when he came in) and Rosie gives him a lecture about refined sugars being poison. He goes out again and Rosie tells Sophie they should put the drugs in a cremation urn and put it on the mantelpiece. Sophie thinks Sally would question the sudden appearance of a dead person. Sally comes in. She's just seen Tim looking very pale. She thinks they can have some mother-daughter time but Sophie's going to the garage. "Since when?" asks Rosie. Since she owes her Dad seven grand.

In the cafe, Bethany shows Todd her vlog. He's impressed. Shona seems to have introduced table service and Bethany tells her Lily's really taken to her. Shona says Lily's card is in pride of place on the fridge. Yeah, right. When Bethany's gone, he asks Shona about the card and she asks why he hates her. He says he doesn't hate her. He just doesn't trust her.

Daniel's cleaning the kitchen and Adam's giving him a hard time about being a virgin. He knows Daniel fancies Sinead and tells him she's already got a fella. Something Daniel says makes him realise they've already been together. He goes off. Daniel goes to empty the wastepaper basket and finds a crumpled up law exam paper in there.

Bethany's on her way to double maths when Nathan draws alongside in her car. She tells him she has to get to school and he admires her for getting her priorities right. That seems to change her mind and she gets into the car.

Daniel stops Sinead in the street and she shakes him off, saying someone might see. That answers his question about whether she's told Chesney yet. She promises she'll do it tonight. He warns her that Adam guessed their secret.

In the salon, David comments that Rosie has a few split ends. Rosie's offended and Sally chatters away about Rosie eating healthily and only eating organic produce. She hopes they can produce some food from the allotment this year. The allotment is news to Rosie and her eyes light up.

In the cafe, Ken, Daniel and Adam discuss Adam's exam. He's sure he's flown through it and he'd like the money now, thanks. Ken thinks they should wait for the official results. Adam's adamant. Daniel questions how he can be so certain he's passed. Adam is certain but Ken still won't give him the money. When Adam's gone, Daniel tells Ken that Adam's certain of his marks because he already had the answers. He shows Ken the exam paper. "Your grandson's a cheat."

In the pub, Adam and Todd talk about "Barlow's Solicitors." It's a done deal, Adam reckons. Todd's keen to know when he can start. He goes off to the loo and Ken comes in. He'd like to talk to Adam about his exam results and how he can be so certain he's passed. "You cheated, didn't you? Don't try to deny it." Adam says: "Fine, I cheated. I'm already a solicitor." He doesn't see that it matters but Ken points out he's only qualified in Canada. Adam still doesn't see the problem. Ken tells him he wasn't investing his money in Adam the solicitor, but in Adam the man. Adam blusters that he would have passed anyway. "That's the saddest part of it," says Ken.

In the tanning salon, Bethany tells Nathan and Mel that she's going to do the next video with a split screen so people can see the front and rear views at the same time. Mel thinks that will be confusing. Nathan takes her aside and tells her to shut and get on the computer. He wants Bethany to feel loved.

Billy's at the garage arranging to have his car done quickly. Rosie's there, which surprises Sophie when she arrives. She tells Sophie she might have a solution to their problem. Sophie says she'll be back later and Kevin tells her they need a talk about her hours and work.

Todd tries to talk to Adam outside the pub but Adam's a bit distracted when he sees Rosie. Todd asks if he has a plan B. Adam says he's working on it but Todd doesn't think the solicitors' firm will happen.

In the cafe, Tim tells Kirk he needs blinkers with Rosie around. Kirk seems very quiet and tells Tim about Chesney and Sinead. Beth would know what to do. He just hopes Sinead is gentle with Chesney. Gemma comes in and greets Shona cheerily, reminding her of their chats at the Dog and Gun. Shona knows nothing of this and Gemma must have her mixed up with someone else, she says. "I don't know you and don't want to know you, so sling your hook before I lose my rag."

Adam's at home and he's angry. He looks in the waste bin and realises the exam paper is gone.

The Webster girls are at the allotment but are immediately spotted by Brian, who wants to know why they're there.

At the kebab shop, Chesney suggests to Gemma that she's made a mistake about Shona. Her denial is interrupted by Adam. Chesney's sharpening a knife and Adam suggests he puts it down - he doesn't want to give bad news to an armed man. He asks if he knows where his girlfriend was last night and tells Chesney that Sinead slept with his Uncle Daniel. Chesney asks if this is a wind up but Adam says it's not - and points out that Daniel was a virgin.

In the garage, Kevin and Luke are working on a car outside and David comes over to ask if they could take a quick look at a client's car. Kevin goes off to look at it. Luke crawls under a car which is up on a jack (if a reason was given for not using a hoist or a pit, I missed it). As he struggles to undo something, the jack slips and the car falls on him.

Uh oh.
The end.

Margaret Carr

Good evening, here I am again. When this was aired I was in Guildford attending a wine and food pairing evening. Whilst we do not normally drink reislings we had one this evening which paired very well with some Indian samosas. And some great port to match with some very strong cheddar. In consequence therefore this episode is brought to you through the convenience of the ITV Hub.

This episode was written by Mark Burt and it was directed by Diana Patrick. Copyright remains the property of ITV to whom many thanks.

We open tonight on the Street itself with Adam and Tracy chatting - the former needed that money. As they pass the garage they hear Luke shouting for help. Adam follows instructions to get a proper jack under the chassis and quickly pumps it up freeing Luke's leg which had been trapped, but luckily not crushed. Kev returns to the garage as Luke is helped out from the under the car and Tracy gives him a massive hug.

At the allotments Brian is preventing the druggie sisters from hiding the biscuit barrel. (Given Brian has not long returned how did he manage to get an allotment so quickly?). Rosie, being Rosie, after some staged prompting by Sophie, uses her mouth and asks Brian to tell her all he about vegetables as they are "so interesting" and she is thinking of bringing out a veggie-based face pack range. Sophie is left to do the dirty digging. Brian wants a biscuit but they allege they are super high fibre as Sophie is not regular alleges Rosie getting her own back for comments Sophie had made. Well I am no Percy Thrower says Brian and takes Rosie back to grace his shed. "Percy who" asks Rosie, before calling Sophie uptight and judgy!

Tracy and Luke are inspecting the damage at the garage - Tracy suggests a hospital visit - but Luke does not think it is too bad. Kevin is very apologetic. Adam is inspecting the original jack and is no doubt contemplating how much he can win in his first case. Tracy latches onto the lack of a proper stand and Kev admits it is entirely his fault as they were trying to get it done quickly. Luke keeps telling everyone that it is not serious. (I suspect at the very least it needs reporting to the H&S Executive). Tracy and Adam take Luke home. Tracy gives Kev a warning that this is not over.

In the factory the girls are working on an order which is thanks to the mastectomy bras, for once it is something worthwhile. And there should be a lot of overtime as a result. Although only Jenny got her photo in the Gazette! Sinead is not joining in the banter as she is clearly somewhere else. Fiz asks if she is alright and Sinead assures her she is. Sinead it also being praised by Johnnie for the overtime she did last night. (Getting paid and laid at the same time - cannot be bad). Chesney comes into the factory with a face like thunder and asks Sinead for a private word by saying he wants to know WHO she's been doing! Sean is open mouthed!.

In the cafe Shona is scrolling through her phone looking at photos. She finds two photos of Gemma in a cowgirl outfit and she smiles to herself.

Chesney is telling Sinead that Adam Barlow told him. She tells Chesney they have been in a rut for ages - but Chesney thinks they can get through it, if their love is strong enough. Sinead says it is not about love - they have outgrown each other. Chesney would have looked after Sinead for the rest of her life if it had been needed. But no - she sleeps with the first virgin she meets. She hates that she has hurt Ches, but in the long run he will see it is for the best. He replies - the best for you and he leaves.

At Nathan's salon Bethany has found that the likes on her French plait have almost doubled (all on a "See Me" website). It has been liked 69 times, we can see at least three other videos she has made. Nathan's brunette assistant also makes her read the corny comments an anonymous user has posted! Bethany is a bit surprised she has suddenly gained in popularity. Nathan observes that it helps if you are the compete package. {This is grooming by the way}.

At the allotment Sophie is digging and Rosie is listening about vegetables. The biscuit barrel is dropped in a hole and the composter is moved back into place above the hole. For carrots there are three words - preparation, preparation, preparation (no Tony Blair has not arrived on site). Rosie and Brian disagree on technique - she tells him the Americans have all sorts of gadgets and would do it differently. Rosie says they have different ideas about fun and getting dirty as Brian show her some very dirty carrots. Brian starts to sing - but Sophie has finished and comes to rescue Rosie before her head explodes. The two girls depart.

At the flat Daniel is comforting Sinead. She wants to know why Adam dobbed them in. Daniel says it is payback and shows Sinead the exam paper. And Adam is not stupid so worked it out when he spotted the paper was missing from bin. Daniel apologises. Then works out that Chesney will want to kill him. He will speak to Chesney. Sinead says wherever they are going they must be truthful with each other. Daniel agrees. She tells him Daniel can tell her anything at all - but he does not know what she is talking about. Sensibly he asks her what he is not telling her. Did I pop your cherry she asks?

At Number One Tracy is cheerfully telling Luke he could have died - as he drinks a cuppa. He is not easy to be rid of he replies. She says she is going to make Kevin Webster very sorry. Luke tells her to leave it. She says he should be sued into taking responsibility and make some money. Luke is not prepared to kick Kevin. She reminds him he could be out of a job soon as the garage is in trouble. Luke is still shaking his head. Tracy says the insurance will pay - it is not Kevin getting a kicking. She tells him he has to talk to R'Adam. Luke agrees.

Sinead said last night was amazing (in the store cupboard?, well she was getting paid for it.) Daniel would have preferred earth shattering. She tells him practice makes perfect. They have a huge snog and Daniel is working towards a second helping when Sinead remembers she has to return to work. She will see him later. She kisses him several more times and goes. And Daniel is obviously pleased with his performance as he leans back on the sofa!

Chesney is skulking in a corner and sees her emerge from the flat. Adam is coming out the Corner shop and Sinead observes that he is probably pleased with himself. She does not know how he can be so cruel. Adam did it to put them out their misery as the relationship with Chesney was going nowhere. He tells her that he knows that Ches is better off without her. She tells Adam that Daniel is twice the man he will ever be. Adam guesses it is the soppy poetry which has attracted Sinead to his uncle. She says he is jealous of Daniel, because he is everything which Adam will never be. Decent. Kind. Intelligent. And her face change from almost crying to a wide smile as she makes this list. And she points out that Daniel must be the bright one as Adam had to cheat at his exam. This wipes the smile off of Adam's face - but as Scout Sinead tells "Truth hurts doesn't it?".

Chesney has emerged from the Kabin. He has collected the spare keys to the kebab shop from Cathy - he admits he is having a bit of a rough day. He looks up at the flat above the Kabin.

After the break Gemma is hard at work when Shona pops into see her and to apologise. Shona says she cannot multi-task and was busy earlier. Gemma agrees as Dev has told her that Gemma's idea of multi-tasking is to muck up two things at the same time. Shona says they have met and Shona tells her about a party they both attended four years ago where Gemma was a cowgirl. Gemma instantly forgets her earlier belief about Shona being a regular in the Dog and Gun and Shona has managed to remove the threat she had perceived. [I cannot work out what this is about by the way]. Gemma makes it clear that she has distanced herself from the people on the estate as she does not want to be that person any longer. A customer comes in and Shona goes breathing a huge sigh of relief outside the door.

Chesney using the spare keys has wandered into the flat and Daniel wants to know how he got in. Ches shows him the keys. Ches wants a chat.

Rosie and Soph return home and agree that they make an awesome double act. Sophie says that next time Rosie is on her own. They walk into the kitchen and ask Dad (Kev) why the garage is closed. He tells them there has been an accident. Kev's tool box stopped Luke being crushed. Sophie immediately asks why the axle stand did not hold the car. They were not used Kev admits. Tyrone has not been told and will be upset. Kev says that Tracy and Adam were there and he is expecting to hear more. He reckons this will bury him.

Daniel is trying to explain to Ches that it was not planned. Ches does not accept it. Daniel says he never set out to hurt Chesney. And Ches accuses him of not being man enough to take responsibility. Daniel accuses Chesney of misconstruing what he is saying. Chesney is stunned with Daniel's love of long words. Chesney accuses Sinead and Daniel of laughing at him. Chesney starts pushing Daniel around, the latter tries not to respond with violence. Daniel briefly gets annoyed and then remembers himself, pulls himself to his full height and politely asks Chesney to leave the flat. Chesney tells Daniel to make him leave. Daniel cleverly responds that if Chesney will not leave he will - and he goes out of the door. He tells Chesney to let himself out.

Nathan has brought Bethany to somewhere close to home and she thanks him for his support today saying they work well together. He suggests another session next week. They see Chesney chasing virgin boy into the Street. Chesney bets that Daniel does not even like Sinead - which Daniel disputes. Ches accuses Daniel of stealing Sinead - again Daniel disputes it. Sinead thought they had already broken up. Nathan puts hi money on Chesney if they get stuck in. Daniel keeps heading along the Street and Chesney chases him and accuses him of running to his mummy. This brings Daniel up short and he turns, grabs Chesney by the his anorak and slams him against a wall. Daniel tells Chesney that fear and weakness define his entire existence which is why he will always come second best. He lets Ches go and says he hopes they understand each other now. Chesney tells Daniel that he is welcome to Sinead. Bethany will text Nathan tomorrow. Daniel turns to the wall and punches it. It hurts.

In the Rovers Adam, Gemma and Sean discuss Chesney, Daniel and Sinead. Not much sympathy at all for Sinead in that group. Gemma reckons that girls like Sinead give girls like her a bad name! Gemma mates for life apparently. Luke limps in for a meeting with Adam. Adam says they are practically family. They sit in a booth and as they do a very glammed up Rosie. Adam asks Luke if he wants to make an injury claim. Luke says no. Luke says accidents happen and Kev does not deserve further bad news. Adam tries hard to convince Luke to make a claim. But Luke is insistent that Kev is a mate and you do not do over mates for a quick buck. Luke apologises for wasting Adam's time. Luke goes and Rosie slides smartly into the vacant seat. She takes her coat off and ensures her wares are on display for Adam's benefit and in answer to her question Adam confirms that Luke is about to sue Kev. Putting on best little girl voice she asks Adam to talk Luke out of suing Kev. Adam promises he will try on two conditions - firstly that this conversation remains confidential between the two of them. And the second one is that he takes her out tonight. She refuses the second on the grounds that she is taking him out.

The scene moves to a graveyard where Shona is stood at the end of a relatively new grave. The metal plate on a simple wooden cross comes into focus - Kylie Platt and gives her dates of birth and death. She cries.

Sinead has returned to the flat and she tells Daniel she has spoken to Adam. Daniel says he is being conspicuous by his absence. However Chesney popped in! Daniel tells her it was intense but they did not fight. She says she is sorry for putting him in this situation. Daniel says they could not avoid each other for ever. Daniel says they both managed to get their points across. She does not know how Daniel can be so cool. Daniel responds that at least it is now all out in the open. It seems she is having regrets. She tells him that as a brainy guy he asks some really dumb questions. And she gives him a big hug. She cannot see but over her shoulder he sneaks a peak at his watch and has a very worried expression.

Roll credits.

It was very early in the episode but clearly the writer has taken huge delight in being able to exchange comments between Rosie and Sophie as part of the dialogue. The interplay at the allotments was first class and it is with pleasure therefore that the announcement that Rosie is not leaving in a hurry has to be welcomed.

Daniel trying to be "better" than others? Still something odd in his final shot.

And Shona obviously does know Kylie, a cousin perhaps? Or a relation of her killer?

Finally in the words of Mrs Dale I am still very worried about Emily Bishop or perhaps that should be Eileen Derbyshire.

See you next week.

Richard

Monday 13 February

Written by Martin Allen Directed by Brett Fallis

Sinead feels guilty the morning after but happy to be with Daniel. They are a bit flummoxed when Rosie Webster comes out of the other bedroom followed by Adam. So that date went well, I take it? Sinead notices Daniel's scraped knuckles (he bashed the wall after losing his temper with Chesney). He doesn't tell her what happened, just brushes it off.

Sean sees Kirk with Liam. He must have been staying at Maria's flat with Liam while Beth is away nursing her mother because he tells Sean that the boiler is bust and Audrey can't get a new one fitted until next week.

Todd has another job interview at a legal firm tomorrow. He and Billy cuddle on the doorstep. Todd asks if Billy has a tie he can borrow but Billy can only offer a dog collar. (I don't believe Todd doesn't have a closet full of good clothes he can wear) Adam and Rosie come round the corner. Adam introduces them but of course they would know each other of old and greet each other with a warm kiss on the cheek. Adam is still hoping Todd will come work for him once he gets his practice started but it doesn't sound like Todd is all that open to it at this point. Adam promises Rosie he'll talk Luke out of suing Kevin (of course we know Luke has no intentions of suing).

Rana and Zeedan are getting ready for work. Zeedan has a headache and snaps at his grandmother. He is roundly scolded by her and Rana points out that spending 3 hours in front of a club speaker will do that to your head. Rana gets off. Yasmeen directs him to her bag for paracetemol. He picks up a pack of a different sort of pill which she snatches out of his hands, finding the right ones for him. What are they for, we all wonder?

Kevin has another breakdown call. Tyrone offers to go instead. Sophie arrives for work because nobody has told her she's to be sacked yet. Rosie rocks up and tells Kevin the good news. Adam has talked Luke out of suing. Kevin is quite happy and relieved. Sophie confronts Tyrone about the atmosphere. He admits they have to lay someone off but Kevin won't sack his own daughter. That gives her something to think about.

Sinead phones Kirk to bring her some clothes. Daniel offers to get her things for her but that will only make things worse. She reckons it will be very awkward for her to keep on living at Number 5 so asks Daniel if she could move in there. He's a bit reluctant since he has so much school work to do preparing for final exams and wants them to have a good chance at making a go of it. She assures him she's ok if he spends most of his time studying but he still wants to leave it for now.

Sarah tries to have a conversation with Bethany about school. Bethany's attention is on her phone. She gets a text asking if she wants to do another video but tells her mother she's not going to as her schoolwork will suffer. Yet, Sarah thinks doing the videos is a good thing and something Bethany loves to do. Bethany snaps at Sarah and says she's not doing any more.

Kirk has brought Sinead a change of clothes and we see what it is when she gets to work. A very fancy purple silk blouse and a pair of track bottoms. Kirk tells her she's going to have to face Chesney sooner or later. Sinead has found out that Kirk is back home for the moment and that at least takes some of the pressure off her and Chesney being alone together in the house but it's only temporary, Kirk reminds her. (So there, then, it seems Kirk and Beth would be staying in Maria's flat, for Liam's sake) Fiz gets a couple of sarcastic remarks in at Sinead's expense in defense of her brother.

Luke limps to the flower shop and tells Tracy it's not too bad. Luke has come to tell Tracy that she has to pack a bag for his Valentine's surprise, a night away. She's chuffed but won't let him tell her any further details.

Zeedan is trying to get hold of Rana. Alya sees him on the street and approaches. He tells her about the pills he found in his grandmother's pills. He's found out one of the things they're prescribed for is Multiple Sclerosis. They're both concerned.

Ken encounters Daniel outside the Kabin. He's meeting an old friend who lectures on the MA program Daniel is hoping to be accepted into. He would be a good contact to make to find out more about the course and what the program wants in a candidate. Daniel promises to be at the pub for 5.

Chesney comes home to find Sinead there. He's not happy, and wonders why she's not living with her "pet virgin" (nasty git, isn't he? nothing wrong with being a virgin.) She tells him there's no room there. Chesney is unsympathetic and refuses to have her back in the house. She insists. She's paid rent to the end of the month and insists she has rights. He allows it but warns her that he doesn't have to be nice to her.

Alya joins Zeedan at the house. He still hasn't heard from Rana who's apparently with patients at the hospital. They talk about what their grandmother must be going through, tests, appointments and all on top of the stress of Sharif leaving etc. Yasmeen arrives home just as the siblings are regretting that they fell out, thinking she would have felt more like using them for support. Yasmeen sees Alya and isn't pleased but when Zeedan confronts her about the pills and asks her about her health she denies that she has MS. She does admit, though, that they're used for anxiety. They insist on the truth.

Kevin thanks Adam for his influence. Adam wants to make a deal with Kevin. Kevin can lease him the viaduct garage for free for 6 months. Adam will make the improvements and open his legal firm there. If Kevin wants to sell it, he can take a cut to pay back for the improvements. Kevin is reluctant and turns him down.

Yasmeen tells her grandchildren she had no intention of telling them she was struggling with anxiety but is only saying something now so they wouldn't think she was ill with something worse. Rana arrives and does explain that the drug is used for all sorts of things including MS and anxiety. Yasmeen is still a bit annoyed but touched that they care. She asks the siblings to make up their differences or they'll regret it the rest of their lives. They admit she's right. All over one mistake. They apologize to each other. Yasmeen apologizes to her grandmother for everything and her apology is accepted.

Sinead and Kirk are watching a movie with Liam. Chesney puts the tea on the table. Three bowls, for he, Kirk and Liam. Sinead goes to the kitchen to make something for herself but Chesney picks at her for using his beans and his pan and justifies his attitude after what she did. But they are all reluctant to explain to Liam. Sinead goes upstairs to pack even though she has nowhere to go. Chesney does not look triumphant.

Kevin returns from the second breakdown of the day, all cash in hand. Sophie tells her father that she's handing in her notice, pretending that she doesn't think the job isn't really her thing in the long run. Kevin asks Tyrone if he said something and of course Tyrone wears every emotion on his face. He can't lie but Sophie insists it's for the best. She realizes she's the one that isn't really contributing and also insists on giving her 21% back since she won't be part of the business. She tells her father she'll find a job.

Ken has met up with his old friend in the pub. Tracy is finally trying to figure out where Luke is taking her. It's not Paris, Rome or Venice, turns out it's Bristol. Bristol? She twigs that Bristol is where Andy went and realizes Luke wants to find Andy.

Bethany opens the door to Mel. She's come to find out why Bethany doesn't want to do more videos which Nathan is disappointed over. Bethany admits that she's getting a crush on Nathan and he's too old for her and probably just thinks of her as a kid. Sounds like she's learnt a lesson about older men. She also admits to Mel that she's a virgin. Mel looks thoughtful.

Daniel, on the way to the pub, sees Sinead on the doorstep with all her things and Chesney and Kirk there as well. Kirk is trying to convince Chesney to let Sinead stay until she can find somewhere but Chesney rudely tells him to keep out of it. Sinead tells Daniel that Ches didn't throw her out but has made it impossible for her to stay. Daniel and Chesney end up shoving each other around. Fiz comes out, hearing the ruckus, too. Chesney tells Sinead Daniel had him up against the wall yesterday and points out Daniel's scraped knuckles, proving he's been hitting something or someone else. That gives Sinead pause for thought when Chesney wonders what else she doesn't know about Daniel.

Ken doesn't know where Daniel is, he's late.

Adam meets up with Rosie in the pub. Rosie feels bad about Sophie losing her job, blaming herself for encouraging Sophie to come visit her. Without insurance, Adam points out. There's more, though. Rosie's also worried about something else. She tells Adam about flying back with a pack of coke for her boyfriend and she and Sophie have buried it in Tim's allotment. Adam realizes she's not kidding. She isn't indeed, and is scared it's all going to go wrong and she'll end up in jail. Adam looks thoughtful (that's happening a lot this episode, isn't it?)

Having unburdened all her worries, Rosie needs very little prompting by Adam to describe where she and Sophie have buried the drugs.

Meanwhile outside number 5 things are getting nasty as Chesney confronts Daniel. Sinead starts to cry so Daniel picks up her bags and tells her she's going to stay with him.

Back in the Rovers Tracy is making her feelings felt to Luke. She tells him she'd got her passport out and had been Googling beautiful places with famous bridges, only to discover Luke was planning a trip to Bristol to search for Andy.

Over at the bar, Ken's lecturer friend Gus is getting restless waiting for Daniel to appear. An embarrassed Ken says he'll try calling him.

The scene moves to Daniel's flat where Sinead asks him what happened between him and Chesney. Daniel admits he did have Ches up against a wall but he only punched the wall. Sinead asks why he wasn't honest with her earlier. They agree to be truthful with each other from now on and Daniel tells Sinead she can stay with him. They start to kiss and don't hear Daniel's phone buzzing on the other side of the room.

We return to the Rovers where Adam is talking on his phone to a friend in the States. He tells him about a stash of cocaine that has come his way courtesy of someone called Antoine. Rosie comes back from the Ladies' so Adam sends her off to the bar so he can continue his conversation.

Ken and Gus are interrupted by Phelan asking Ken if he's decided on the cupboards for his kitchen. Gus uses the opportunity to make his excuses, leaving an embarrassed Ken sitting at the bar.

Rosie comes back with the drinks and Adam starts to yawn. He tells her he has to call it a night then reassures her that she shouldn't worry about what she told him earlier.

At the Platts' Melanie is paying Bethany a visit. She hands her a box containing a necklace and says that Nathan had bought it for her to wear on her next shoot. Melanie tells Bethany that she's on the cusp of something really big and she shouldn't throw it all away now.

Kate turns up at the Nazirs' to talk to Rana. She wants to chat through plans for Alya's birthday. Rana suggests they should go and discuss it over a drink.

Sophie calls into Streetcars to tell Tim tea's nearly ready. Tim is exhausted – there aren't enough hours in the day to work at Streetcars and run his window cleaning business. Sophie says it's a shame she can't drive as she needs a job. As if on cue, one of Tim's customers rings to ask why her windows haven't been cleaned. "I could do it!" declares Sophie in a split-second decision to start a new career (leaving me wondering how she plans to drive Tim's van in view of her previous remark).

In the Rovers Sarah is showing Gary one of Bethany's videos on her phone. She's worried she may have made a mistake advising Bethany to give it up in favour of her schoolwork. Gary asks why she can't do both. Sarah asks Rosie what she thinks, bearing in mind her expertise in the world of modeling. It's hard to imagine anyone taking advice from Rosie but Sarah seems swayed by Rosie's declaration that Bethany's got what it takes and she'll never forgive Sarah if she makes her give up this opportunity.

Daniel is just putting the finishing touches to the table ready for a romantic dinner a deux when a furious Ken rings the doorbell. Suddenly remembering where he should have been Daniel tries to pretend he was engrossed in writing an essay but the game is given away when Sinead emerges from the bedroom in search of a hair dryer wearing nothing but a towel.

Meanwhile, under cover of darkness, Adam has arrived at the allotments. Rosie was quite specific when she described how the drugs were buried next to an upturned green bin. But Adam's face falls as he scans the area with his torch and realises that almost every allotment is equipped with an identical bin.

Ken is absolutely furious with Daniel for forgetting the meeting and he's not at all impressed to discover his new relationship with Sinead. Daniel apologises and points out he's not the first student to have a girlfriend but as far as Ken is concerned, Daniel should be giving his studies 100% of his concentration, particularly since Ken is the one footing the bill.

Kate and Rana are in the Rovers trying to come up with ideas for Alya's birthday and they invite Mary to join them. As she sits down Sarah places a bottle of wine on the table and tell them that it's courtesy of their admirer at the bar. Their collective hearts sink as the man in question asks if he can join them. Kate and Rana have to stifle their giggles as Mary turns her attention to the man.

Over at the allotment Adam is busily digging away but so far to no avail.

Back in the Rovers, Mary is still philosophising with the admirer who clearly thinks his luck's in. He asks if they could meet up for a drink to continue their discussion. Mary says she'd love to but unfortunately she goes to the convent next week to test her vocation as a nun. As the man leaves looking very confused the three women collapse in hysterics and tuck into the bottle of wine.

Phelan is working on Ken's kitchen when Tracy comes storming in, ranting about her abortive trip away with Like. Ken isn't interested in discussing it, claiming he has more important things to worry about, so Phelan gives her the benefit of his relationship advice. Since Luke knows he's in the doghouse he suggests Tracy's in a strong position to get him to do what she wants.

Bethany's sitting at home staring thoughtfully at the necklace from Nathan when Sarah comes in looking for her phone charger. She tells Bethany she and Gary have been talking about her and they've come up with the idea that she could film some more videos at home on her phone. Bethany feels it's not quite the same as what she's been doing but Sarah says it's better than nothing and at least that way she can carry on with her schoolwork.

Round at number 5 Kirk is taking Liam out for an ice cream leaving Fiz to try and talk to Chesney who is moping on the sofa. She thinks Sinead has behaved terribly and advises Chesney that he would hurt her more if he behaved well and he'd also gain other people's respect. Fiz tells him that this behaviour isn't like him as he was always such a nice boy. Exactly, replies Ches, and look where that got him. First Katy dumped him and now Sinead. He resolves that he's never going to let anyone walk all over him ever again.

Kev's at home pouring over his accounts and trying to work out how he can save money when Sophie comes in with some good news. She's decided to take over Tim's window cleaning business she tells him and she's determined to pay Kevin back for all her medical bills. Kevin leaves and Rosie comes in. She's in high spirits after her evening with Adam and tells her sister that he's just what she needs after that "double-crossing cheat in Miami".

Meanwhile Adam is arriving home after his visit to the allotment where he finds Sinead and Daniel about to retire to bed. As soon as he's on his own Adam pulls out the mud-covered biscuit tin from under his jumper. He takes off the lid and smiles to himself as he withdraws the large packet of cocaine.

Wednesday 15 February

We open with Adam sitting and staring at the tub he's unearthed from the allotment.

Faye and Bethany are waiting at the bus stop. Faye says that she liked her latest video, even though the lighting seemed different somehow and it seemed less professional. She tells her to ignore all the stupid comments. Bethany is dismayed and pulls out her phone to see that lots of her followers have unsubscribed.

Rosie hears Sally talking to Brian. It seems that somebody has dug up several of the allotments – all those with a green bin.

Meanwhile, Adam is in the cafe talking to Todd, and suggesting that Todd sells the cocaine and they use the money to set up their own legal firm. Todd, however, tells him that he's had his fingers burnt before, and anyway he reckons that whoever this stuff belongs to, or is intended for, is going to come after it, so he declines the offer.

Phelan is round at Ken's, working on the kitchen. Tracy comes down in her dressing gown, and then there's a knock at the door – it's Luke. It seems he has a cash flow problem and he asks Tracy if she'll pay for the hotel, he'll pay her back he swears. Tracy is not pleased, she tells him she never wanted to go to Bristol in the first place, and now he expects her to pay for it! She tells him to go on his own.

Daniel is in the cafe working on his essay. Sinead is there and she asks if he's still upset about his dad. Daniel tells her he's angry, it's none of Ken's business who he lives with. Sinead thinks he should invite him round for tea and then apologise for standing Ken and the professor up.

Rosie and Sophie are in the cafe. Sophie is furious that Rosie told Adam about the biscuit tin of cocaine being hidden on the allotment. Rosie protests that it just slipped out - he's really sexy and she didn't think!

Tracy is now dressing and is sitting down enjoying a cuppa with Phelan. She explains about Luke wanting to go to Bristol to find Andy. Phelan gulps and then asks where she thinks Luke will start looking. She tells him Andy was going to ask a mate for a job in a restaurant, adding that apparently Andy hasn't put anything on Facebook for ages. "If you're not updating your status every five minutes all your mates think you're dead," she jokes.

Sophie and Rosie have gone round to confront Adam. After initially denying it, he eventually confesses that it was he who dug up the drugs. Sophie tells him they tried to make the delivery and sooner or later someone will come looking for it, when they do she will tell them exactly what happened. Adam reckons he's done them a favour by removing the evidence. Soon they'll be gone and he'll have started his own law firm, if anyone comes looking they can deny all knowledge.

Although Phelan had an agreement with Ken for half the money for the job up front and the other half upon completion, he's now saying he needs to buy more materials so needs all the money now, with nothing to pay upon completion. Ken is reluctant, but reckons he's left with no choice.

Adam goes to see Kevin and offers him £40k for the burnt out garage. Kevin tells him he'll think about it.

Phelan is on the phone, confirming that all he needs to bring with him is his passport and the reference number he's just been given. Ken appears looking smart, telling him he's off to Daniel and Sinead's for tea.

Kevin and Anna are talking about Adam's offer when Sophie comes in. She warns her dad to stay well away from Adam, but Kevin wants to know why, saying he's desperate. "You tell me what you know, or I'm going to do this my way."

Todd is in the pub talking to Billy. He's just been for a job interview but been told that his qualifications and experience are out of date. He now feels like he's too old, he's over the hill. Billy points out that he's 32, just a baby.

Ken arrives at the flat and is greeted by Sinead. He offers her a bottle of red wine.

A rather hysterical Sophie has told Kevin and Anna all about the drugs and Adam. She's really scared. Kevin is furious and says he's going to wring his neck. Sophie tells him he can't, but Kevin goes out anyway.

Bethany is in the pub talking to Sarah, she's not happy because nobody liked her new video.

Adam and Todd have a meeting in the pub. Todd reckons that maybe he was a bit hasty earlier, and he'll go in with him, depending on the small print, but he doesn't want Billy to know about it.

Adam is walking back down the Street when he's accosted by Kevin who grabs him by the lapels and demands to know where 'it' is. Adam starts to say he doesn't know what Kevin is talking about, but Kevin then threatens to shout about it so his granddad hears. Adam then retaliates by saying he wouldn't advise it, seeing as it was Rosie who smuggled it though customs in the first place. Adam tells him that when he's sold it nobody could link it to Rosie and Sophie, then he can buy the garage and he'll be happy. Kevin tells him he doesn't want to see a penny of that money and he's going to the police. Adam replies that he'll drop Rosie and Sophie in it and say he dug up from their step-father's allotment, so he must've been in on it too.

It's a fun evening at Daniel's flat as Ken quizzes them on Abraham Lincoln. It seems he's just finished reading 'Team of Rivals'. When Sinead leaves the table to get more water, Daniel apologises to Ken, he was rude not to show up. He says he appreciates all the help Ken is giving him as far as his MA is concerned, but there is nothing else he's going to apologise for.

Bethany is standing in the Street texting Nathan but apparently getting no answer.

Sophie and Rosie are sitting in the bus shelter when Adam comes along and tells Rosie how Sophie has told Kevin everything. The girls start to argue, but Adam stops them saying that the gear is his and he's going to sell it, but if anyone comes looking for it he's going to pin the whole thing on them.

Ken is in the pub now, talking to Brian. He says he feels that Daniel could really achieve something, climb his way out and do what Ken never did. Although Sinead is nice, he can't help feeling that Daniel has thrown himself at the first person who has come along.

Bethany is now sitting in Nathan's car, talking about her latest video. Then the conversation gets round to their relationship. He says that there's nothing worse than a one way crush. "It wasn't one way," says Bethany and kisses him.

Anne Logan.

Thursday 16 February

This is like buses. You wait awhile for one to come along, and then two come together. That is a little like these reports tonight !

Anyway here is an extra episode for you tonight.

I have a confession, I watched this at the time of transmission in the UK. I record the programme automatically anyway, and when I have watched it delete it, or if I am writing the report keep it until I am ready to write the report. This time, I deleted it without having written a word down, but luckily it is still on the ITV website. If all else fails, I would have to invent my own storyline !! "Once upon a time in La La Land ..." (oh no, somebody's given me the wrong script !!).

Well we start off with Sally wondering whether Rosie is suited for window cleaning. It would be okay for Sophie, but cannot imagine Rosie with a chamois in her hand. Although Rosie says she has done modeling, Sally says she couldn't wear a tiny vest or tiny shorts, particularly with Tim around. Tim's eyes glaze ! Sally then thinks there could be some valuable publicity in this; Rosie suggests, 'Top model takes time out from her busy schedule ...' . Sophie doesn't think it is a good idea having just smuggled cocaine through customs to have her photo in the paper. Sar

ah comes downstairs to eat her breakfast. She tells Gary who is serving her poached eggs on toast with spinach that he needn't come round just to make breakfast for her. Bethany then comes down and says she doesn't want any breakfast and goes straight out. Sarah says she is going off to see her friend Mel.

Phelan tells Eileen that he is going away as he has a couple of weeks work elsewhere. He then spots Sophie and Rosie, and says he understood they were taking over. He thinks it is a good idea for a female window cleaning company. This gives Rosie ideas about another photo-shoot, sexily posing with a sponge !

Leanne is about to go out shopping. Nick reminds her of her blood pressure, but she says she will be okay. Her phone rings. Nick thinks it will be Toyah, but it is Eva trying to apologise. Leanne says she gets more messages from them both since she stopped talking to them!

Bethany arrives outside the school gates, and Nathan is waiting for her with a cup of coffee (it may be tea though !!!). He suggests she skip school so he can take her shopping.; He wonders if she wants to shoot another video at lunchtime. She says as long as he wipes the one with her and her mother! He doesn't consider it a problem.

Luke suggests to Tracy that they would have a good time if they went to Bristol. There are some good bands playing. She tells him she is not interested and he goes off. Mary overhears them talking about a band that Tracy had never heard of. Mary says that shows the age difference. She refers to "women of our generation" have different standards. Tracy exclaims she is only 40, and then Mary says she is 46 ! Tracy says that her parents had 16 years between them, and they didn't have much in common music-wise. He preferred Beethoven's 5th to her mother's Nolan Sisters. Mary says that a friend of hers married a man who was much younger. They were one of the happiest couples she had seen. She had wisdom and experience and he had get-up and go - zing. When Tracy asks if they are still together, Mary says she suffered a massive heart attack water-sking on their honeymoon ! He later met someone else of his own age and they have had twins.

Bethany arrives at Nathan's photographic studio. She says she can only stay for an hour. He calls to Mel (his assistant) to get her made-up.

Phelan arrives at the Rovers just as Luke has ordered a drink. Phelan says he will pay for them both. Luke fears that he is about to get a rent rise, but Phelan says he is just being neighbourly. He says he understands he is planning to go to Bristol to see Andy. Luke says it is not a social visit after the way he broke Steph's heart. Luke thinks Tracy has put Phelan up to asking the question, but he denies it.

Todd is trying to negotiate a deal with Adam regarding the drugs money. Adam says it hasn't been sold, but tells him to put on his coat as they both have a meeting to go to.

Eva receives a text message and starts to laugh. Toyah asks what she is laughing at, and she says it is a gif of a coughing parrot and that is hilarious. She thinks Leanne would love it.

Simon comes bounding into the pub and asks Eva and Toyah to stop texting to his mother, because her blood pressure is up, and it is making it worse. He says when she wants to talk she will let you know.

Back in the studio, Nathan notices that Bethany isn't wearing the necklace that he gave her. She says she didn't want her mother to see it, as she would go on at her if she knew she had a boyfriend. Then two police officers come in to arrest him regarding an alleged abduction in December 2016. They give him an Official Caution, while he asks for his coat. He calls to Bethany that it is a mix up.

Adam, Todd leave a property with an estate agent. A little concerned Todd reminds Adam that he already has a boyfriend. Adam reassures him that he is not his type. He just thinks two local lads inspires trust, with a local legal office, especially for those that would be intimidated by a big, flashy lawyers' office.

Phelan is in the flower shop. He says he is not a 'flower person'. He only tends to buy them on special occasions and then buys them from the petrol station. Mary says she feels sorry for petrol station flowers! She thinks it must be hellish for them with the fumes of the vehicles. Tracy suggests Mary should go to the M6 motorway service station and set them all free! Phelan says that he wants to buy flowers for Eileen and asks advice from Tracy. A typical shopkeeper, Tracy says she doesn't care !!!!! Mary suggests red roses. Phelan then turns the conversation back to Luke going to Bristol. He says that he wants to give Andy a 'going over'. Tracy says she is not concerned. He says that if he went away on Valentine's week, not only would he be out of the door, but probably in Casualty.

Bethany comes home late. Sarah asks where she has been and she says she has been in town. Sarah wants to know about her day. Bethany says she is going for a run and would have tea later. She then spots the necklace on Bethany and asks her where it come from. She says it came from a school friend, her mother sells them on the market. Bethany goes upstairs to get changed and texts to Mel if there is any news about Nathan. The reply is no.

The Webster girls are doing window cleaning. Rosie says it is doing havoc with her nails, and that she has a splinter in her finger. Sophie tells her the ladder is made of metal ! They then start to discuss Adam. Sophie says Kevin would go ballistic if he thought she was seeing Adam. Rosie realises it. Meanwhile Todd is in the next garden and overhears the conversation.

Tracy calls out to Luke asking him how much the train fare to Bristol is. Before he responds she shouts £80 plus even a dingy b&b would be another £70 a night. Then there are meals and drinks to be paid for. She considers he is throwing their relationship away. She is annoyed because they could have a lot of fun with £300. She wonders what he is going to do when he gets there and sees him. Is he going to try and beat him up, particularly as he has a gammy leg, and then his face may get smashed up. He would be of no use to anybody then. Within a moment, Luke agrees and says he could be doing much more staying with Tracy.

Phelan and Eileen are walking down the road and calls over to Luke and Tracy asking her if she is going to Bristol after all. She says she isn't, she is stopping there for more fun. Eileen then asks why he has given her roses. He says he has decided not to go away after all as the money was rubbish.

In the Rovers Sally is talking to Tim. She tells him to be friendlier towards Rosie, as he hardly talks to her. He says he is a bit starstruck by her! Sally says she likes him because he is so 'provincial'. Meanwhile Rosie comes in. Sally asks her about her window cleaning round and whether she has any questions for Tim. Rosie says she just wants a drink. Sally thinks she is so funny and tells an embarrassed Tim to get Rosie a drink. Sally then asks Rosie how it is going with Adam. She wonders how her mother knows about him. She says nothing gets past her, and then says Sinead has been gossiping at work. Rosie remarks that her agent says beauty is only skin deep, but ugly goes down to the bone.

Eva asks Toyah to serve Adam at the bar. Toyah turns to Eva and asks her whether she was just texting to Leanne. Eva says she promised she wouldn't and hasn't done so. Todd then comes in and indicates to Adam that they should sit down. He tells Adam that Kevin knows about the drugs as well as Rosie and Sophie. Adam is convinced he won't say anything else he will tell about Rosie smuggling them in, in the first place. Todd wants to disassociate himself from Adam and turns down his offer of going into business together.

As Bethany returns home, Nathan is waiting for her outside the flats. He says he has been calling her, but she says she left her phone at home. He says he has never been more terrified in his life.

Nick comes rushing in from work. Leanne is surprised to see him home so early, but he explains that he spilt some food down him and needs to get changed. He thinks Leanne looks bored, and she says she could do with some company. Simon calls out that he is there, but Leanne says she didn't want to disturb his homework. Leanne suggests that he invites Amy over if he is bored, but Simon says she is making a 'welcome home' banner for his father and Michelle who are due home the next day. Leanne suggests he goes round to help. He says he is bored, not desperate ! Nick says that he will try and get off early. He says he thought Leanne would have heard from her sisters. She says she hasn't heard from either of them. He hopes that they are now getting the message.

Nathan explains to Bethany that the police have CCTV of a blonde girl getting into his car. He says it is not the missing but someone he picked up at a club. He says it was months ago, long before he met her. Bethany wonders why the police would think it is the missing girl. He says it was near her house and they are both blondes. He is worried they are going to fit him up for it. He asks her for her help. She says just tell the police the truth, but he says he can't prove it wasn't the missing girl. He doesn't have the other girl's phone number or anything. He asks Bethany if she trusts him that he wouldn't do anything like this. She says of course she does. He thinks if he went to jail it would kill him. He suggests that she tells the police it was her. He pleads with her to save him.

Well the look on Bethany's face suggests that she doesn't want to lie to the police. What will she do? Will Nathan go to prison? Your Friday night reporters are Margaret and Richard and no doubt they will be following this up for you.

Friday 17 February

Hello, here's the first Friday episode.

It's breakfast time and as a news item about the missing girl, Annabelle, comes on the radio, Bethany turns it off. Sarah goes on for a bit about how awful for the parents and she doesn't know what she'd do. . . then she remembers to tell Bethany she has to work tonight because Michelle and Steve are coming home.

In the Kabin, Brian goes on (and on and on and on) about recycling. There's a queue behind him and when he finally goes, taking a magazine and telling Norris to put it on the cafe's tab, Cathy tells Norris that Roy won't like that. Norris says he knows from experience as Brian's landlord that Roy will have a lot more to put up with. They discuss Nick and Leanne's wedding, planned for Christmas, and Toyah overhears the discussion.

Nathan's outside the school. He tells Bethany that she didn't have to do much, just tell the police it was her who was seen getting into Nathan's car but Bethany says she doesn't like lying to the police. She hints at the family experience of it. But Nathan thought they were friends. He thought they trusted each other. "I'll see you round," he tells her.

For a moment I thought my notes said "St Peter," and I don't remember him in this episode. But they say Street, Peter and Toyah discuss how she feels about Leanne's wedding. Adam comes past. He's off to a job interview with a local legal firm, but Peter refuses him a free taxi ride. Simon and Nick come past and Peter suggests a boys' night in, but Simon wants to be at home for Leanne. Toyah and Nick are going in the same direction. She asks him if it's his idea to just feed Peter scraps - to give him small glimpses of Simon and to engineer situation where they can only talk very briefly. She suggests he start thinking about what's best for Simon.

In the pub, Sarah's talking to Gary and Bethany's at the bar. She hears Sarah mention that the missing girl has turned up. She'd taken herself off to Tenerife with her mates. Bethany tells Sarah she's going to see Mel.

Out in the street she passes Alya, Rana and Kate, who are off on a night out. It sounds as if Mary was supposed to go with them but she has to work late. A black cab pulls up and Steve and Michelle get out of it (no, I have no idea why they didn't order an airport pick-up from Streetcars). They meet Leanne and there's an awkward moment when they ask her how she's doing.

Simon's doing his algebra homework in the Bistro. Nick asks if he'd like to spend the evening with his Dad. He promises Leanne won't mind.

Bethany's in the tanning salon trying to apologise to Nathan. He's being very distant. He says it's too late to say she's sorry. He thinks it best if they don't see each other any more.

The girls-about-town are in the pub, trying to decide where to go. At Kate's suggestion they decide to try a gay bar in town.

Mel talks to Bethany. She explains how disappointed Nathan is. If Bethany doesn't trust him then maybe she's just been using him. She suggests she and Bethany hit the bars in town. Bethany points out she's too young to get served but Mel says she isn't. On the pretext of fetching her keys as they leave, she nips back into the salon for a word with Nathan. "You know what to do?" he asks. She does.

Peter and Simon compete in some car-racing game. Peter wins. Simon's phone pings with a message and Toyah comments on how many messages he's getting. Si says his mates are at a birthday thing at the Trafford Centre (big shopping centre/mall). Peter thinks Si should be out having fun with his mates. He offers to drive Simon there and when he's ready to come home he can call and Peter will go and pick him up.

At Walmsley Croft solicitors, Adam flirts with the receptionist as he waits and asks her out for a drink.

In a bar, Mel tells Bethany how Nathan saved her from a life of drugs and homelessness. Bethany notices some marks on Mel's arm and asks about them, but Mel hurriedly covers them up. Bethany asks if Mel and Nathan have been a couple but Mel says they're just good mates. Bethany thinks she should head home but Mel convinces her to have just one drink. Bethany asks for a Cola. At the bar, Mel gets her a Coke, with double vodka!

At home, Nick and Leanne discuss Toyah. It seems there is a possibility that Leanne's thawing towards her. Nick is glad Simon's spending some time with his dad. Leanne fancies an early night and picks up her phone to check in with Simon. But it goes straight to voicemail. Nick offers to go over to Peter's.

In the back of the pub, Steve and Michelle tell Liz how relaxing Ireland was, with lots of long walks. Michelle wants to keep up the walks now they're home. When she leaves the room, Liz tells Steve she's fetched the baby's ashes, just as he asked.

Sarah and Gary revel in the silence at home. Sarah gets a message from Bethany to say she's staying at Mel's tonight. Oh, no she isn't. Sarah is annoyed. She wants Bethany to ask, not tell. She texts back that Bethany has to be home by midnight.

Bethany is well drunk. Mel says she's bored and suggests going back to hers. She tells Bethany to go outside and she'll fetch all their stuff. When Bethany's gone she phones Nathan and says she's done what he asked.

Nick's appalled to discover that Peter and Toyah have let Simon go to the Trafford Centre on his own. Peter explains the plans to collect him but when he tries to call Simon the phone goes straight to voicemail.

Bethany's trying to persuade a doorman to let her back inside to find Mel. In the street, a Streetcars cab stops and out get Alya, Rana and Kate. They're about to go into the bar when Rana spots Bethany. She asks if she's OK. She's clearly the worse for drink and Rana thinks she should get Bethany home. Then Nathan pulls up, tells Bethany that Mel called him because she couldn't find Bethany. He'll take her home. Rana tries to argue, but he says it's up to Bethany.

The end.
Margaret Carr

Good evening. A quiet week in update towers so straight over to the mean Street of Weatherfield. This is episode 9104 and it was written Susan Oudot; it was directed by Brett Fallis. Copyright remains the property of ITV to whom many thanks.

We are somewhere in Manchester but not on Canal Street as we are against some arches with trams running above and there is no sign of the canal! Rana is trying to help a slightly the worse for wear Bethany but Nathan the scumbag has just arrived in his car. Bethany rejects the sisterhood and chooses the scumbag. He assures Rana he will take care of her and tells her to have a good night. Rana rolls her eyes and leaves Bethany to her fate.

At their flat Leanne is emerges from the bedroom looking for Nick. She picks up her phone and calls him. His phone rings on the table (and yes I believe it - I went up to London in December for the afternoon and evening and completely forgot my phone).

Meanwhile Nick is telling off both Peter and R'Toyota for letting a 13 year loose in a shopping centre. Toyah has phoned Si - but it goes straight to the answering machine. Nick heads out to get Leanne - Peter tries to calm him down. Toyah agrees that Leanne does not need the stress. Peter and Nick agree to go looking for Si. Toyah is left to wait for him.

Steve and Michelle have been for a walk with Rover. People just do not know to find the right words to console them, particularly "at least". Michelle particularly dislikes being told "at least you held him, at least you could try again". Steve tells her that Liz has collected the ashes. Then he says "at least we managed to go for a nice walk. She has a small smile. Oddly Robert is not in the kitchen and meets them outside the Bistro. Steve tells him they did a lot of walking and eating and he remembers he never got a chance to thank Robert properly for looking after Michelle who is cold and goes home. Steve repeats how grateful that Robert found her. And having thanked him also heads home.

Leanne arrives at Peter's flat wanting to know where Si is as he is not answering his phone. Toyah explains the disaster so far. Peter and Nick are looking for him. Leanne is worried in the light of the teenager missing the previous day. Leanne swears that if anything has happened to Si then she will never forgive Toyah or her boyfriend.

In the back room of the Rovers Michelle assures Steve she is ready for this. Liz comes in carrying a small black box which is opened by Michelle and contains a small metal casket containing Ruairi's ashes. Liz goes. Michelle observes that it is good to have him home. She starts sobbing and Steve moves to hold her. He wishes he could make it better, he can't and he is sorry. There will be ups and downs but given time there will be more ups than downs. Steve adds that as long as they have each other that is all that matters.

Adam has bought the legal secretary a drink in the Bistro. She does not have a boyfriend. She likes to keep her options open. Adam tries to extract some information about the felon "Mr (Ronan) Truman" we saw entering the legal practice earlier. Apparently he is regularly in trouble. But still free so her boss must be good. She agrees he gets them off every time - which is why Mr Truman pays so much - she types the invoices! She reveals that Truman gives good parties - hinting that drugs may be involved (remember Adam has a stash to sell).

Nathan is steering a slightly more sober Bethany into his flat on the other side of town. They both drop onto the sofa. She says she let him down. She should have gone to the police station. She will do anything he asks her to do. He suggests sobering her up with some water.

In the gay club Rana is getting chatted up by another girl. Kate collapses with laughter. Rana has been chatted more this evening than Kate has in months! Alya points out that she is married to her brother. Rana assures her that Zeedan will be glad they are there - no male competition. Rana is still thinking about Bethany. Alya assures her that there was nothing they could do and they all down a round of shots in one. Then all three head off to the dance floor with gay abandon.

Bethany is asleep on the sofa when Mel turns up and returns Bethany's mobile phone. Nathan tells Mel off for nearly losing her. He dismisses her in quite a nasty way. He pockets the phone.

After the break Daniel is asleep on his sofa when Adam and the legal secretary return to the "penthouse" flat. He introduces Trina (Robson) to Daniel. Apparently there is no booze in the house unless Adam has bought some since the last time he drank it all. Adam tells Trina to ignore Daniel has he has a condition - it causes him physical pain to see other people having fun. She heads off to Adam's bedroom. Adam tells Daniel that working for other people is for losers. He plans to be his own boss. Daniel did not think Adam had the right qualifications to practise. Adam says he will once they have been converted to UK requirements. Adam has found a half full whisky bottle which Daniel would regard as half empty. Daniel protests on linguistic grounds as full and empty are absolute terms and cannot be halved or modified. Adam tells him he is too clever for his own good. Daniel says that he does not think that is possible. Adam heads towards the bedroom and tells Daniel to turn up the music.

Mary and Liz are chatting over the Rovers bar. She tells Mary that giving the ashes to Michelle earlier had upset her. Mary hopes it will give them all some closure. Mary observes that losing a child can be a very lonely journey. She and Liz hold hand in mutual sympathy. Steve wanders into the bar - they are both recovering slowly he tells Liz. Have they decided what they will do with the ashes - Steve says yes - but at the moment Leanne storms in wearing her red coat wanting to know if Amy is around - but she is not. She briefly explains about Simon being missing. Leanne has spoken to some of the others - when they split and left and no-one has seen Simon since. Leanne has another go at Peter. Steve tells Leanne to calm down for a minute and to think of the baby. She gives him a furious look.

Bethany is awake now and Nathan gives her another glass of water. She is embarrassed. Nathan cannot explain why he came to collect her - he puts it down to feeling protective (and nothing to do with making her feel obliged to him). Well she is a stupid kid who needs looking after. Nathan does not think she is stupid. Bethany rightly observes that Sara would go mental if she knew where she was at this moment. They agree not to tell her. Nathan observes that parents never want kids to grow up. Nathan does not see her as a child so does not have that problem. And he lunges at her and kisses her. She responds with enthusiasm. Then he breaks off and tells her she did nothing wrong. He goes and gets a duvet so she can sleep on the sofa. She (still slightly drunk perhaps) is very confused.

At Peter's flat PC Connolly has brought Simon back. He had been found with a dead phone so could not call. He had forgotten Peter's number so could not call. PC Connolly is thanked and he observes that it might be an idea to check phones are charged before going out. {And to corroborate Simon I cannot remember my wife's mobile number either}. Leanne is giving Toyah a piece of her mind when Peter and Nick amble in. Si and Nick go downstairs but Leanne turns back and tells Toyah the reason she was not worried is because she is not a mother. Peter moves to comfort R'Toyota.

In a bar Rana, Kate and Alya have broad smiles. Alya says it is liberating not being chatted up by a load of blokes, not that she gets chatted up very much. Apparently Kate brought Johnny to a gay bar once - he was terrified. Different generations, different experiences says Kate. And now everything is amazing! And another amazing drink. (Rana is drinking although she clearly should not but is Alya drinking?).

Toyah is telling Peter that she will not go to Leanne's stupid wedding even if she was invited. (Sisterly blues are strong tonight). Peter is trying to calm her down. Toyah knows it was said because it would cause hurt. He assures her that she is every bit the woman that Leanne is. And someday she will be a mother as well. He repeats it.

Bethany is wide awake, lying on the couch; she is 16 and will be 17 in June. Remember in the UK the age of consent is 16 (clarification for those abroad), in some countries the age may be higher or lower although the last century has seen that age adopted widely. She is thinking. Then she gets up and goes to the bedroom where Nathan is on his computer. She does not want to sleep on her own. Wordlessly he puts the computer down moves over and opens the cover and pats the bed. She closes the door behind her and the camera does not see what transpires.

Michelle comes into the back room and Steve pours her a whisky. She needs to tell him something and he tries to make a joke out of it saying he has seen the bank statements - but then sees she is serious. She tells him she tried to kiss Robert the night he found her by the canal. She tells him it meant nothing. Steve asks why she has told him if it meant nothing. She says she was a little drunk and not in her right mind that night. She wanted to feel something other than pain. Steve asks if that is why Robert was so awkward earlier. Michelle says it has nothing to do with Robert - he did nothing wrong. She just was not thinking and it was a massive mistake, a moment of madness. She tells him that she loves him and no-one else. She reminds him that after Will they had promised they would always be honest with each other. (Steve is there anything, anything at all you might want to mention to Michelle?). And so she is doing just that. Steve just says OK. He understands why she did what she did and he does not hate her. He tells that whatever happens or has happened she is the love of his life and she must know that. She leans her head on him. She is relieved that he has taken it so well. The look on Steve's face is a reminder of the ticking time bomb in Victoria Court.

Bethany is now sleeping the sleep of the recently ravished. Nathan slowly gets out of bed and goes into the living room. He phones someone and tells them it has worked - like a dream as it goes. No he tells the other person you cannot rush it. Then he says "Don't I always?". Apparently he is gong to get his investment back and then some. In the bedroom Bethany wakes and calls him. He ends the call but tells the other person to remember what he said - this girl is special. And makes it clear she is good! He goes back into the bedroom and the bed. He kisses Bethany and puts his arm around her. She settles down to sleep again?

Roll credits.

I am an innocent in these things but I do wonder how or why Mel would do what she has done for Nathan. I assume we will never know - but she seems completely at his beck and call and under his control. I do not think Nathan's final call was with Mel.

Before I lose track I think Adam's current count is three - Maria, Rosie, Trina - did he have any conquests when previously on the Street?

And does anyone remember when Sarah was groomed over the internet in 2001? So like mother like daughter.

And we lost two children tonight - Bethany and Simon. Who will go missing next?

Am I alone in thinking that the chances of the police actually bringing a 13 year old home in this day and age are close to zero? The best I would anticipate is a phone call telling the parent to collect from the police station - or perhaps Manchester is another world!

Finally in the words of Mrs Dale I am still very worried about Emily Bishop or perhaps that should be Eileen Derbyshire.

See you next week.

Monday 20 February

Written by John Kerr Directed by Gill Wilkinson

The morning after, Bethany does mention the lack of protection from the night before so Nathan suggests a morning after pill. Sensible. Probably wouldn't have suggested it if she hadn't brought up the subject, that's my guess. His familiarity with Mel and her reaction made me think she's just a little jealous of his new thing with Bethany. She seemed to have a regretful attitude or perhaps reflective? Meanwhile, Sarah is not happy that Bethany stayed out over night and ignored her texts to be home early. Nathan still has Bethany's phone, the one Mel had nicked off her. The lie that someone stole her phone is true though she doesn't realize she actually knows the thief!

Rana is still worried about Bethany. I wondered if that would come into play at some point, and it did, with Rana asking Sarah if Bethany got home ok and mentioned that she was drunk and with a man that she said was a mate. Oops.

Brian is still living with Roy who doesn't seem to like it very much. Brian's charging Roy's Kabin account with his own personal reading material (even if he did then leave them in the cafe for customers) and eating the cakes from the cafe without paying. He doesn't really take the hint and goes on the offensive, telling Roy he was not happy with Roy's approach to the situation. Roy stood his ground. He accused Brian of using his flat like a hotel with Roy doing all the dirty work.

Even though Robert knows Michelle only tried to kiss him out of grief, it couldn't have been nice to hear from Steve that it meant nothing, when he wishes it could have! Michelle is still finding that she's wondering what life with little Ruairi would be like. It's very difficult. Steve's suggestion of going for a drive and bringing the wee box means that he thinks maybe they might find a nice spot to scatter the ashes. They end up on a beach in Wales. Gorgeous scenery though chilly, I should think. They walk to the edge of the water, Michelle in tears and Steve swallowing back a lump. He draws a heart in the sand with all three of their initials inside it. M, S, R. The ashes in the wee egg is emptied onto the heart and the two of them have a cry in each other's arms as they say goodbye to their son.

Leanne is finding that not working is boring but she's having a twinge or two. I reckon that's the first sign, don't you?

Peter needs money and the lady with the big tips, Chloe, hasn't been asking for him lately. He wants to pay for a consultation fee for the fertility clinic so he's asked Ken for a loan instead. I can see Ken's point about Peter starting all over again. But then he's been there at about the same age or older, hasn't he?

Liam somehow let Darryl out of his cage and Craig is not too happy about it. Nor is he happy about having a 5 year old underfoot. Liam then nags Eva to be taken to see his mum and ran off behind her back to the bus stop, intent on his quest. Leanne found him and in the end, Leanne and Eva made up their differences.

Toyah is fuming about that crack Leanne made about her not being a mother. She even gets a bit of sympathy from Eva. But later, seeing that Leanne and Eva made up, she gets even further annoyed that she's still getting Leanne's cold shoulder. Confrontation is the order of the day and she runs after Leanne and gets into the lift when she's supposed to be getting in the taxi for the fertility clinic appointment. They start bickering. Leanne looks a bit uncomfortable and wow, everything goes black and the lift stops for a minute. Power outage? But though the lights come back on, the lift doesn't budge. There's a bit more bickering, and Toyah can't get a signal on her phone. Leanne left hers in the flat. The two sisters are still sniping at each other when Leanne moans. Her waters have just broken!

Oh dear. Things are not looking good for Leanne. She's stuck in a lift with Toyah, her waters have broken and now it seems the contractions have started in earnest. Robert arrives on the scene and shouts through the lift door that he's going to call an ambulance. Personally I'd have opted for the fire brigade but then fortunately I've never found myself in a similar predicament.

Meanwhile across town Peter is waiting at the fertility clinic. As Toyah hasn't turned up he suggests to the doctor they should make a start without her.

Sarah arrives home to have a word with Bethany who looks suitably guilty when her mother reveals what she's found out from speaking to Rana.

Back at Victoria Court Johnny has now joined Robert on the outside of the lift while Leanne groans in agony and tells Toyah she wants Nick. Toyah relays the message to Robert who says he can't get hold of Nick and helpfully tells them both to wait there while he goes to the medical centre. In between contractions Leanne tells her sister exactly what she thinks of her relationship with Peter. Toyah may be the closest thing she has to a midwife right now but that doesn't stop Leanne venting her feelings before giving in to another contraction. Rana arrives. "How are you?" she calls through the lift door. As it's before the 9pm watershed, Leanne resists the urge to call back "how the **** do you think I am?"

At the fertility clinic the doctor points out to Peter that she can't really do much more without Toyah in attendance. He gets out his phone to call her and plonks his cigarettes on the desk. The doctor suggests if he's serious about trying for a baby he might want to knock that habit on the head.

Brian's in the Rovers bemoaning the fact that Roy has thrown him out. Liz can't understand it – it doesn't sounds like Roy at all. Brian asks Tim if they've got a spare room but Tim couldn't possibly agree without Sally's say so. Cathy comes in and joins the conversation. Hearing what's happened she's not totally surprised as she knows how Roy likes things done in a particular way. Brian asks if Cathy could give him a few pointers to help him out.

We return to the lift where there is still no sign of the ambulance. Rana advises Leanne to stay calm and take deep breaths. Inside the lift Toyah says she's read somewhere that walking around can help with the pain. Leanne points out where they are so Toyah makes do with patting her sister's arm instead and telling her not to worry, she's there for her.

At the Platts' Bethany is having a row with her mother. She tells Sarah she wasn't just with some random bloke, he's called Nathan, he works at the tanning salon where she filmed her videos and they both really care about each other. Bethany claims, contrary to what Rana told Sarah, that Nathan's about her age. She adds that Nathan was the one who found her on Christmas day. Sarah asks Bethany if they're sleeping together and she demands to know the truth. Bethany, unsurprisingly, lies through her teeth. She tells Sarah that she can't stop them seeing each other and then storms out.

Back at the lift, Leanne appears to be in full-blown labour and Toyah tells Rana the contractions are a minute apart. We hear the sound of a siren in the distance and five seconds later the ambulance crew appear. Unfortunately the lift door is still firmly closed (if only they'd had the same thought as me and called the fire brigade). Leanne is starting to panic, she's convinced something's wrong. As a matter of fact there is – in all the excitement neither she nor Toyah have noticed that she's still fully dressed.

Meanwhile out in the street Liz waylays Roy. She tells him she's heard all about his falling out with Brian and suggests he pops in to the Rovers for a quick word with him but Roy hurries on his way. Just then Robert comes running down the street and stops Nick in his car. Liz overhears as Robert breathlessly tells Nick that he'd better come quick as Leanne's having the baby in the lift. As Nick runs towards Victoria Court he passes on the news to Eva who hurries along in hot pursuit.

We return to the lift where the paramedic finally asks if anyone's called the fire brigade. It's looking a bit late for that because Leanne screams she needs to push. "Nice deep breaths'" advises Toyah as she manoeuvres Leanne into a sitting position.

The crowd outside the lift continue to shout out helpful comments. "Is the baby coming?" calls Rana. With barely a downward glance Toyah calls out that she can see the top of his head and then fixes her gaze on Leanne's face which, to my mind, is the last place she should be looking. Leanne lets out one more groan and in less time than it takes Johnny to ask Robert if he's found a crowbar we hear the baby make his first cry. Another five seconds later, Toyah hands Leanne her baby neatly wrapped up in a blanket which presumably she found conveniently lying on the floor of the lift.

Round at the Rovers, Michelle and Steve have returned from scattering Ruairi's ashes. Steve tells Michelle how proud he is of her, acknowledging how hard everything's been. "Not just for me," replies Michelle, returning Steve's kiss.

Out in the bar, Cathy and Brian are talking about Roy and running through the list of his idiosyncrasies. Brian asks Cathy, hypothetically, what he would cook to make Roy his favourite meal. "Shepherd's pie'" says Cathy without hesitation. Brian can tell that Cathy misses Roy but as she says, what's done is done.

Liz has a quiet word with Steve and breaks the news that Leanne has gone into labour in a lift. She asks if he's going to go over there but Steve says he can't, he has to stay there for Michelle.

Meanwhile, in the lift, Leanne cradles her new son in her arms. She's so grateful for Toyah's help that she apologises for everything she said and it looks like the sisters are best buddies again. At that moment the lift doors are finally forced open, revealing the crowd all waiting anxiously outside. Toyah goes to ring Peter and explain why she never turned up while Nick joins Leanne in the lift and is introduced to 'his' son.

Out in the street the search for Daryl continues. Liam is worried it's his fault and tells Kirk he didn't mean to let him out. Kirk reassures him they'll find him. As it turns out Kirk's right. Just round the corner two workmen appear with a shoebox. Tim tells them they've lost a pet rat but, judging by Tim's expression when he looks inside the box, Daryl has come to an unfortunate end.

Across town, Bethany has gone to pay Nathan a visit. She explains how her mum has found out about their relationship and has gone ape. Nathan looks pretty disconcerted by this news although he manages to regain his composure when Bethany says she told Sarah they weren't sleeping together. Nathan tells Bethany he has something for her and hands her a brand new iphone.

Back on the street Tim is telling Kirk about Daryl. It looks as though he was responsible for chewing through the cable that knocked out the power to the flats and, in doing so, was electrocuted. Now Kirk has to break the news to Craig; he says he hopes he'll go easy on Liam. In fact Liam has overheard the whole conversation and he quietly slips upstairs with a glum expression on his face.

Round at Roy's flat, Brian has cooked a meal. He tells Roy he's done everything exactly as he likes, with cutlery carefully aligned and gravy in a separate jug. Roy realises Brian's been speaking to Cathy. Still, the meal has the desired effect as Roy says that in view of the effort Brian's gone to he can stay. A grateful Brian tells Roy that Cathy still holds a candle for him and asks whether they might get back together. Roy is quite adamant that isn't going to happen – Cathy's a good friend he says but nothing more.

Gary goes to see Sarah in the Rovers. She wants his advice about Bethany. Sarah tells him what happened with the row over Nathan and she's worried she's pushing her daughter away. Gary advises her to wait for Bethany to calm down and says she'll listen to Sarah's advice eventually as she loves her mum and knows that Sarah loves her too.

Robert and Johnny arrive in the Rovers. Steve listens in the background as they tell Liz that Leanne has had a baby boy. Liz asks Steve if he's OK. He tries to make out he's fine but says he's going off to see to the dog and will be back in a bit.

Brian pays Cathy a visit. He's clutching a bottle of wine and tells her it's to say thank you for her advice as he's now back living with Roy. He's obviously hoping to be invited in but Cathy chooses not to pick up on this and wishes him goodnight.

Leanne and the baby are being put into the ambulance. Nick tells her he loves her and then turns to see Steve watching from across the street. The two men stare at each other before Nick joins Leanne in the ambulance. Steve watches Nick looking down at a smiling Leanne holding the baby and takes a deep breath …

Wednesday 22 February

Nick comes hurrying out of Victoria Court with an empty carrycot which he puts into the back of his car, he's off to pick up Leanne and the baby. At the same time, he's phoning through a birth announcement ad to the local paper, as local residents call out their congratulations.

Michelle, meanwhile is in the Kabin buying a newspaper when Zeedan comes in looking for baby cards, and tells her and Rita how Leanne went into labour in the lift. Michelle is visibly shaken by this news and Zee apologises, but she tells him it's great news, and then rushes out.

In the Rovers, Liz is berating Steve for not telling Michelle the news before she went out. "What if someone else tells her first?" she says, as Michelle comes back in. She realises straight away that Steve and Liz already knew. She's upset, but realises she can't crack up every time someone has a baby.

Leanne is sitting on her hospital bed, cuddling the baby, with Simon at her bedside. Toyah and Peter arrive, and Toyah asks to hold him. Leanne tells them he's going to be called Oliver. Just then Nick arrives and isn't too happy to see them all. "I thought we agreed no visitors until we set up at the flat?" he says. Leanne reminds him that Toyah was her birthing partner. "And I'm the birthing partner's partner," says Peter. Then Nick takes the baby and holds him proudly, telling Leanne he's made an appointment with the register office tomorrow afternoon. Toyah and Leanne exchange glances.

Kirk and Beth are talking about what happened to Darryl, Kirk reckons Craig will be devastated when he finds out. Beth is horrified that Kirk hasn't told him already, but Kirk thought that she would do it. Liam is fiddling about with a bag in the background, and tells Kirk and Beth he's lost a trainer, but we see him put a phone in his pocket. Just then Craig comes back in and Kirk breaks the news that Darryl seems to have chewed through the wires at Victoria Court and would have been electrocuted. Craig then gets tearful and Beth puts an arm round him. There's a knock on the door and Eva arrives for Liam. She looks around at the situation. "Who's died?" she asks.

Michelle, Steve and Liz are in the back room of the Rovers. Michelle feels that everyone is scared to talk to her about Leanne and baby, and it should be a happy day. She tells Steve they should go round there. He's aghast, but she says Leanne is her friend and she wants her to see she's happy for her.

Jenny and Johnny are in the office at Underworld. She's impatient for Aidan to get back, she wants him to know that she's got an order from Richard Drake. Just then Aidan walks back in, holding a newspaper. He throws it down on the desk. "Since when did she become a partner in this firm?" he asks. Johnny picks it up and sees a photo of himself and Jenny with Richard Drake, sealing the deal for the mastectomy range.

Meanwhile, Liam goes out into the back yard with the phone he put in his pocket earlier. He calls the police. "I want to report a crime," he says, "I think I've killed Darryl!"

Back in the flat, Leanne tells Nick it's like a sauna in there. Nick doesn't want Oliver to get cold. Then the intercom phone buzzes, it's Gail, Nick told her it would be ok for them all to come over, much to Leanne's annoyance. Anyway, they all come in – David, Sarah, Bethany and the kids. Sarah is cross with Bethany and they snipe at each other, and then start cooing over the baby. Bethany pulls out her phone and starts taking photos. Sarah sees it's a new phone, and Bethany tells her that Nathan gave it to her, it's his old one. Gail remarks that Oliver reminds her of Nick, and wants to know if he's going to be a Tilsely. Nick and Leanne exchange glances. "Battersby-Tilsley," says Nick. Then his phone rings and he moves away to take the call.

Outside, Steve and Michelle are on their way over, with blue balloon and a teddy bear. Michelle suddenly decides she wants to take flowers too, and leaves Steve standing while she goes over to the florist's. Nick comes out on his balcony, talking on his phone, when he spots Steve, standing on the pavement holding the baby gifts. He's obviously horrified.

Nick rushes across the road and tells Steve they don't want him there. He says he doesn't want to be there, but Michelle does, she wants to show Leanne that she's happy for her. Nick apologises, and Steve says he'll try and come up with an excuse so he doesn't actually have to come in. Michelle walks up with the flowers she's just bought and hands them Nick, asking if he minds if they come up to see the baby. Steve then tells Michelle he doesn't think he can do it, so she goes on her own, saying she'll see him back at the pub.

Back at Underworld, Johnny tells Aidan the paper have made a mistake, and Jenny tells him she was mortified when she saw the article. Aidan isn't convinced, and mutters that he's surprised he's still got a desk. Jenny then falteringly starts to explain to Aidan how she got to thinking about certain women who are badly served, and then unveils the mastectomy bra. Johnny comments that anything that gets them closer to Richard Drake has to be a good thing, and Aidan agrees. Just then Johnny's phone rings, it's Richard.

As the Platt family leave Leanne, Nick gets back with a rather apprehensive Michelle. "Tell me if it's a bad time," she says. Leanne says it's fine, and asks if Steve is with her. Michelle says he's busy, and Nick leaves them to it. Michelle sits down next to Leanne and strokes the baby's face. "This is Oliver," says Leanne, and lets Michelle hold him while she goes off to the loo. Michelle talks to him, saying he's a little miracle and has no idea how special he is.

The police have arrived at Beth and Kirk's house, saying they'd had a call from a young man who said he'd killed someone called Darryl. Beth explains that Darryl is a rat, and Liam tells them he did it and he wants to go to prison. "I want to see my mum," he says. Eva hugs him and tells the police they've had a wasted journey.

At Underworld, Jenny is devastated to learn that Richard Drake is pulling out of the deal. She says she's not giving up.

Michelle comes out of Victoria Court to find Steve waiting for her. She tells him the baby is lovely and it really helped her to see him.

Upstairs, Nick is telling Leanne how upset he was when he thought Steve was coming up to see the baby. Leanne reminds him that this is a massive responsibility and she wants to do it right, she doesn't want to do anything that's going to cause any distress.

Toyah tells Peter she's made another appointment at the clinic and needs all the cash she can get her hands on. He's sure it must be hard for her to see Leanne with the baby. Then he asks why she and Leanne looked at each other when Nick said he'd booked the register office. Toyah acts innocent and then mumbles that it's Nick being controlling. Then Peter tells her that he already knows about Nick not being the baby's dad.

Leanne tells Nick that she's changed her mind about putting his name on the birth certificate. She wants to do what's right for Oliver, she can't go to the register office and lie.

Back in the pub, Michelle tells Liz that seeing the baby really helped her. She puts her arms round Steve and tells him he's allowed to hurt too. Then she goes off to work in the bar. Liz tells Steve that to lose a baby is a terrible thing, but to know that he has a healthy baby across the road that he can't see must be killing him, she knows it's killing her. "It's their baby, not mine," says Steve.

Friday 24 February

We begin with Nick, who is still very angry. He won't believe Leanne ever intended to put his name on the birth certificate. "We're getting married!" he points out. Simon comes in. He's got a list of the stuff he needs for his school trip and it includes wellies (proper name gumboots ) for the Eden Project.

In the back room of the pub, Michelle tries to talk to Steve. She tells him that holding baby Oliver really helped her and, most of all, it made her realise she still wants a baby.

Eva and Aidan talk about Maria and Liam. Aidan thinks Maria doesn't want Liam to see her in prison. Eva says that, prison or not, Liam needs to see his mother.

In the prison, Maria's doing another woman's hair (her cellmate?) and talking about Eva and Aidan. She tells the other woman that Aidan slept with someone else and Eva doesn't know. The other woman asks whether Maria's going to tell Eva and Maria appears to nod.

Steve tells Michelle he just feels really frightened at the though of having another baby. What if something goes wrong? Michelle says if they can survive what they've just been through, then they can survive anything. She doesn't want to replace their son. And he's brought them closer together. Steve says they need to carry on thinking about it and carry on talking.

In the factory office, Jenny's upset about the canceled order, though Johnny tries to explain that these things happen in business. He doesn't want Jenny to do anything that would make things worse. Aidan comes in and boots Jenny out of his chair. When they're alone, he tells his dad that Eva's going to see Maria. "What if she says something?"

Steve books a table in the Bistro for tonight, asking Kate if he and Michelle can have a quiet table.

As he leaves, Gail comes in and interrogates Robert about booking the Bistro for a family party. She seems to be just gathering information and doesn't have a definite date in mind. Or at least not until Robert tells her he can even put on a party for Oliver's family today. That's fine by Gail.

In the Kabin, Mary looks at a yoga magazine and asks Rita if she's ever tried it. I can't remember what Rita said because of the traumatic amnesia I got when Brian described getting a double hernia while doing the Downward Dog. He offers to buy Cathy a coffee but she has to rush back to work.

In the street, Leanne and David chat across the pram. David talks about middle names and somehow ends up mentioning how bad he feels that Max, whom he thinks of as his son, doesn't have his name. He's a Turner, not a Platt. He gives Leanne a warning that Gail's organising a party. Over the road, Liz is watching. Leanne gives her an awkward nod.

In the pub, Rita and Yasmeen discuss the spark they saw between Cathy and Brian earlier. In my opinion, Cathy should be careful with sparks around Brian - all that hot air might explode.

Down the end of the bar, Mary's got photos of her grandson. She wishes they lived a little closer. Liz isn't really listening. She tells Steve she saw Leanne taking Olly for a walk. "Don't you feel anything?" she asks Steve. Steve replies that he loves his wife, he loves his daughter and he loves hi mother. That's enough for him.

Nick's back from his long run and Leanne tells him she met David and got thinking - she'd like Nick's name on the birth certificate. Nick's thrilled and says he'll have a shower and then they can go straight to register the birth.

In the factory, Jenny's on the phone to the Gazette, who have sent a whole lot of pictures taken at the factory when the new line of bras was announced. While she scrolls through them she spots one which is very interesting - the big-wig client with his hand on his PA's backside in the background of a picture of the Connors. Aidan comes in and chucks her out of the office yet again. As she rushes out he tells her she should be sewing. "Trust me - this is more important," she says.

Nick and Leanne and baby Olly set of for the registry office but they've gone about six feet when David stops them and tells them the party is NOW. They rush back inside to change the baby into something Audrey gave him.

When Yasmeen sees Cathy she suggests she take up sprinting as a hobby - based on her turn of speed away from Brian this morning. Cathy denies there was any flirting and there were certainly no sparks. Cathy says she has to think of Roy but Yasmeen thinks Roy would be more upset if Cathy passed up a new friendship in order to spare Roy.

In the prison, Liam spots Maria and races in for a hug Maria tells Eva this is exactly what she didn't want. "But it's what you need," says Eva.

At the Bistro's "quiet" table, Michelle and Steve talk about Peter and Toyah. Michelle feels sorry for Leanne. Imagine if she and Steve broke up and she started seeing Andy? That picture's a step too far for Steve. There's a sudden influx of Tilsley-Platts and Sarah apologises to the McDonalds for being there at the same time.

In the prison, Maria sends Liam off to the drink machine to get a cola. Maria realises she might have been wrong to keep Liam away. Eva thinks it might be good if Liam can come and live with her and Aidan for a while. Liam comes back and tells Maria that he let Darrell out and he got lost and chewed through the lift cables and Leanne had a baby in the lift and Darrell got electrocuted "and now Craig hates me."

Nick and Leanne arrive at the Bistro with Oliver dressed in a Baby-grow given to them by Audrey, who isn't there because she's not well. Michelle tells Steve that Gail's loving this. She's right. Gail wants to make a speech about how proud she is that her three children have now all got children of their own. Michelle gets up and says she's going to a bathroom. In fact, she heads for the toilet/lavatory/loo (enough of this American-speak, I say!).

Jenny barges into Richard Drake's office as his PA (her with the handy bottom) tries to stop her. She shows him the picture with the hand on Jemima's bottom. "That's exactly the look I hoped I would see," she tells him as all the blood drains from his face. She tells him she has a new project - blackmail.

In the Bistro, while Michelle is in the Ladies, David asks Steve if he can take a photo of the whole clan. Steve does so. Michelle comes back as David asks Steve if he can hold the baby for a sec. Michelle's heart softens as she sees him with the baby. Leanne bumps a tray and breaks some glasses and David leaps away from Steve, leaving him holding the baby, and goes to help clean up the glass. As he stands there, isolated, holding his baby, Steve looks at Michelle. "I am so sorry," he says. Michelle looks puzzled. "This is my son. This is my son," Steve says. And Michelle's look turns from puzzled to appalled.

The end
More very soon.

Good evening. This update is being written after a somewhat disappointing trip to Wembley. The Saints played extremely well but a valid goal was ruled offside. So we lost 3-2. No European football for us next season I regret. But the lads played better than the opposition, so deserve great credit.

This is episode 9109. Copyright remains the property of ITV to whom many thanks. The episode was written by Joe Turner and it was directed by .

We open in the Bistro where the previous episode closed. Baby Oliver is in the arms of his father Steve who has just admitted that the baby is in fact his. Michelle is having trouble with her hearing as she cannot believe the statement she just heard and in plain text it is impossible to record how her face goes from simple uncomprehension (she tells him it is not Ruairi), through an awareness of the meaning (Steve says again it is HIS baby), to complete hatred of Steve and his lies over recent months. Nick and Leanne are watching the web of lies unravel and Nick moves to take the baby away from Steve. David asks if Steve has cracked. Steve turns to Michelle and says he is sorry - but she still does not know what he is talking about. Proud grandmother Gail is stood in the background looking totally gobsmacked. Michelle turns to look at Leanne and she simply raises her eyebrows, then nods that Steve is right and finally Michelle realises that Steve is telling the truth. Steve wanted to tell Michelle so many times. She vanishes to the kitchen. He passes the baby to Nick. Robert protectively stops Steve running into the kitchen. Nick admits to David and Gail that he knew about Steve being the father. Sarah asks Steve if he slept with Leanne (not much sleeping!). Steve admits it - one night when he and Michelle were over. Nick wants to know why Steve is spilling the beans and tells him in no uncertain terms that Steve will play no part in Oliver's upbringing.

At the factory Aidan finds all of the photos on his computer and immediately spots the hand on the bottom photo. Aidan smiles.

Back at the Bistro Leanne tells Steve and Robert that this is her mess and she will go and talk to Michelle in the kitchen, on her own. Gail is giving Nick the third degree - how long has he known he is not the father? Nick explains that Leanne thought it was her last chance to have a baby. Gail observes that Steve McDonald appears to be able to impregnate all women he looks at. Sarah reminds her that his baby died. David notes that he thought his life was messed up. Nick is going to bring up the baby he asserts again. Gail thinks the whole world will laugh at him. David reminds Gail he is bringing up Max who is not his. Nick has chosen his family - Leanne, Simon and Oliver. Robert asks the Platt Tilsley family to take their discussion elsewhere. Nick says he will wait for Leanne. David takes Oliver. Steve is watching from the other side of the Bistro.

In the kitchen Michelle is being sick into the sink. As she stops Leanne starts by telling her that Steve genuinely thought his marriage was over and she was in a really bad place. She has no excuses - it was wrong - they never meant to hurt Michelle. They never had feelings for each other and Leanne never expected to get pregnant. Michelle wants to know what kind of woman Leanne is. After all they celebrated their pregnancies together. And seeing Leanne pregnant had made Michelle want another baby. And then two days ago Leanne handed Michelle her husband's baby, when her own had died. Michelle wants to know why hers died and Leanne's baby lives.

At the prison Eva is explaining to Maria how upset Liam has been at not being able to see his mother - and that is why Liam is there today. Eva tells Maria that she and Aidan love having Liam to look after. She can trust them. In particular she tells Maria that Aidan could not love Liam any more than if he was his own. Maria of course cannot explain why she does not trust Aidan.

Back in the kitchen Michelle recounts the story of the sea taking Ruairi's ashes. She thought Steve was being so strong, perhaps hiding his own grief in his support for her, but now she knows the truth; they were not coping with a shared tragedy - but it was not shared - she was on her own, totally on her own because he was not devastated - because he had a spare didn't he? No says Leanne. Michelle continues that she was going through the most painful experience of her entire life. Leanne says she knows that Steve loves Michelle - but she denies it. If he loved Michelle he would not have slept with Leanne. Leanne cannot regret that night - but she does regret all the lies. Leanne knows that Michelle must hate her and she has every right - but Steve loves Michelle and everything he did and all the lies were to protect Michelle and to protect his marriage as that was the most previous thing to him before, during and after the pregnancy. Michelle is crying throughout this exchange and then she tells Leanne that only this morning they had discussed having another baby. Leanne tells her not to give up on Steve. But the pain of feeling for Ruairi is all she has left of him. Leanne says that Michelle has lost Ruairi and she must not lose Steve. Michelle had turned away from Leanne but now she turns back and hits her across the face almost sending Leanne to the floor. Leanne's nose starts bleeding.

Jenny wants the contract re-instated with Underworld or she will send the picture to his wife. He calls her a conniving little cow. She tells him that comment means he can double the order. She leaves.

Steve tells Nick that he cannot be cut out - but Nick says he can and will. Gail returns with Oliver who needs his nappy changing. Nick says he will do it. Nick tells Gail not to worry about him. Michelle emerges from the kitchen and rushes past Steve ignoring him. Leanne emerges more slowly holding her nose. Steve tells her he is sorry and heads after Michelle. Leanne confirms to Rob that she is OK.

After the break Liz breezes into the bar of the Rovers and asks Sarah if everything is all right. Fine she replies. She asks how was the party. Fine she says. David is with her and says nothing. She tells David it is not her job to tell Liz what happened. Cathy buys Brian a peace offering - dry roasted nuts. She says she is sorry for being a bit off in the Kabin. Brian understands that sometimes people get out of the wrong side of the bed in the morning. Elsewhere in the Rovers Jenny is telling Johnny and Aidan that thanks to her charm and diplomacy the order is re-instated. She says that sometimes there is a deal to be made if it can be grabbed. Aidan asks if there are any strings attached and Jenny says not. And the order has been doubled.

Steve is chasing Michelle along the ginnel into the back yard. She turns on him and tells him she always knew he was an idiot, but he was her idiot! But now she is the idiot for ever trusting him. For ever believing a word he speaks. Steve did not know Leanne was going to get pregnant. Michelle has heard it all before. Karen heard it all before. Becky heard it all before. Michelle tells Steve that she punched Leanne in the face and it felt really good. And a punch in the face is not even close to what she wants to do to Steve at the moment. She tells Steve to go to the son that Leanne managed to carry to full term.

Jenny emerges from the toilets to run into Aidan. He tells her she left the photo on his computer. Aidan has deduced that Jenny has employed blackmail and she does not fool him. She comes back at him asking him outright if he cheated on Eva. So it might not be Alya - but she is good at spotting a man who cheats - and she knows Aidan does.

Robert and Nick are trying to get Leanne to go to A&E. Robert is worried about Michelle. Nick is taking Oliver home.

Michelle comes storming into the Rovers bar and demands a brandy for shock. She stands on the public side of the bar and insists Steve serves her a drink. Steve says they need to talk as she demands a drink. She continues shouting as Steve tries to get her to go in the back. But she points out that they have no secrets any more. She wants to do it in the bar. (Sarah, David, Liz, Johnny, Jenny, Aidan, Cathy and Brian all listening). So Steve how did you get Leanne Battersby pregnant? She calls him Daddy-two sons, one alive, one dead. How did he manage to keep the secret? Even after she lost her son? Then he holds son 2 and he broadcasts it to the whole world. Johnny wants to know how Steve could do something so cruel. Steve again tries to keep it between themselves. As does Liz. Michelle points out that Steve loves an audience - he had one in the Bistro after all. So tell everyone in the Rovers Steve. Michelle asks if Leanne has started turning tricks again - how much does she charge these days? She hates Steve. And starts throwing glasses off the bar at him. Liz is closing up. Johnny ushers Michelle away. But she refuses to go - she has things to finish here and she will call him later.

Nick is having a drink when Leanne returns. As she says it was all going to come out one day. But she says they can still be a family - with Simon and Oliver. Except Nick points out he is not on the birth certificate. (This is odd as I remember Leanne agreeing to Nick being on the birth certificate and they registered Oliver earlier in the day before going to the Bistro, so I am confused). Oliver starts crying. Leanne goes to see to him. Nick decides to go for a run. He can think when he is running and he has a lot to think about.

Brian is telling Roy about events and that he is worried for Michelle and Steve. Brian thinks they have to be left to get on with it. Side with one and alienate the other - it is a minefield. There is a bell and tea is ready.

Liz asks Steve what possessed him? And Michelle knows that Liz knew all along as well. Michelle cannot stand to look at either of them. Liz refuses to defend Steve because she can't. Liz says she told Steve to tell Michelle the truth. But he was concerned for her and the baby. Michelle refuses to listen to Steve. A few hours ago Michelle did not think there was anyone she could love more than Steve. And now ... nothing. Steve tells her that he loves and that was why he could not lie to her any longer. He says they can survive this. But she says not. And she is going away from him and he is not to follow her. She goes out on to the Street. Steve leans against the other side of the door.

Aidan returns home with a story to tell Eva but finds Liam in residence. Eva comes in and tells Aidan that Liam will be staying for a while. Maria said it was all right adds Liam. They can take it in turns to take Liam to see Maria. Aidan is not obviously overjoyed. Eva confesses that she may have put her foot in it with Maria. She was angry - but Eva hopes she has smoothed it over. Aidan will tell his story later and they all sit down to eat pizza. Eva tells Aidan that Maria will be out soon and it will all be over.

Robert comes to the front door of the Rovers and finds it locked and dark. He goes to use his phone and then thinks better of it. We see Nick emerge from Victoria Court in his running gear. He starts running and passes the Rovers on his right and in a dark corner we spy Michelle sitting against a roller shutter sobbing her heart out. She gets a close up shot before -

Roll credits.

Some viewers are critical of Kym Marsh but once again tonight it was all about her and on top of her recent amazing story I thought tonight was excellent. No doubt she will be taking Steve for every penny.

Nick's alter ego, Ben Price, has announced that he will be leaving Corrie later in the year. Last year he was the actor with most episodes and he has been a significant presence on the Street for some years. He wants to spend more time with his own family and whilst this episode was written and recorded before his announcement it probably marks the point at which a split commences.

Big question of course is how quickly Michelle will fall into Robert's waiting arms?

And how soon will Maria be released? And has anyone tracked down mad Caz? Is it only me who feels that some stories seem not to get the proper follow through?

A reminder - the Conversation Street podcast covers the same ground as these updates but with much more discussion. Our own Tvor is a regular contributor - it is usually published on Saturday mornings. Available on a podcast catcher near you.

Finally in the words of Mrs Dale I am still very worried about Emily Bishop or perhaps that should be Eileen Derbyshire.

See you next week.

Monday 27 February

Written by Ellen Taylor Directed by John Anderson

The day after everything kicked off, Michelle is still in the bottom of a bottle of wine and appears to be in Maria's flat. I wonder if she actually asked Maria if she could stay there?

Eva scolds Leanne for not telling her about Oliver's paternity and calls her on being a hypocrite for having a go at her for keeping the Peter and Toyah secret. Rightly, so, too. She's not angry, just disappointed. Leanne apologizes. She said she didn't want to put Eva in the middle, seeing as she works for Michelle. Eva's not having it. Leanne's phone rings and Nick looks at the text, from Steve who wants to talk about Oliver. Nick is starting off on the wrong foot, isn't he? He's even trying to take over, by attempting to text back to tell Steve where to go but Leanne pulls *her* phone out of his hands and advises they all keep things calm so Steve doesn't get angry and make things difficult. Nick is surprised she's not even angry. Her statement about all of them acting like adults falls on deaf ears. Nick storms out just as Toyah arrives, followed out the door by a disgusted Eva.

Johnny has come to see Michelle who has had the key from Kirk. I did wonder. Johnny's concerned. He can see she's well sunk into pity (oh, and that bottle of wine is the second one, she picks up an empty along with one that's still got liquid in it) She reckons she's entitled to a bit of self-pity. He offers to take her out somewhere for the day. She tearfully looks out the window, having heard a car horn, and sees Steve signing for a delivery. It looks like her anger is overwhelming her pity once again and she tells Johnny she can see clearly everything Steve has taken from her. He even offers to take her over to Ireland but she's got a plan and needs his help.

Steve is concerned that he hasn't heard from Michelle and doesn't know where she is. Liz isn't the least surprised. He is intent on trying to get Michelle back and he also thinks he's not going to lose his son, either. He's not mired in self pity, he's mired in the mud of "De Nile".

Rita is all smiles in the Kabin, serving folks. Gary tells Kevin and Rita he's got a job working on the renovations at the brewery (which is behind Coronation Street, at the end of Victoria Street, near the back of Streetcars, by the way) Gary gets off. Kevin chats to Rita who expresses shock that Steve has fathered a baby. Then she looks a bit abashed, considering Kevin's history. (fathered Jack with Molly Dobbs, you may recall). Norris gets off the phone with an unsuccessful phone call. He decides to take his tablet to the shop since he couldn't get through to tech support. Rita takes exception, because she's supposed to be off from noon and had even written it on the calendar. No good to Norris who keeps all his notes on a digital calendar so had no idea (in spite of the fact that Rita probably told him several times as well) She's not pleased and curses him as he leaves.

Rosie and Sophie are washing the cafe windows. Anna brings out mugs of tea while a worker in front of the brewery catcalls Rosie who just smiles, appreciating the attention. Sophie isn't so happy about it, though. Anna agrees with Sophie, it's harassment but Rosie doesn't see it that way. Sophie points out that she wouldn't do it to a man but Rosie begs to differ. That's how she met that Antoine in the States, she went up to him in a bar and pinched his bottom! Anna thinks it's ok if a girl does it to a man. No, no it is not, and Rosie asks that question, why not? At least she has that much sense. Rosie turns around and flirts right back at the bloke who laps it up.

Daniel and Sinead walk towards the cafe for breakfast since Adam has scoffed all the groceries. Only it turns out neither of them have any cash on them so breakfast is off. They kiss goodbye and Sinead heads back towards the factory.

Johnny and Kate come out of Kate's flat. He has told her about Michelle.

At Platt Towers, David is making lunch, buttering bread and about to put a bag of crisps into a sandwich. No point cooking for just one, he tells his mother. He asks if she's heard from Nick but he's not replying to her texts. David figures Nick is busy with the baby but Gail goes on a rant about that, and not, she assures David, because he'd be taking on another man's baby, but because the father of said baby is living right across the street. She blames Leanne. No better than she should be or always was! She then snatches the crisp sandwich out of David's hands and says she'll take him for a proper lunch.

Liz finds Steve still trying to get hold of Michelle. Johnny, Kate and Michelle come into the pub, all three looking grim and towing a solicitor with them. That makes Steve's face fall. Steve thinks they just need to talk, the two of them. She has no intention. She wants a divorce and she wants half of everything including the pub. I hope the solicitor realizes that Liz owns half of the pub and Tim owns half of Streetcars. She can only get half of Steve's half.

Leanne has got the baby to sleep and comes out to sit with Toyah. She tries to get Leanne to understand why Nick is so upset. She's the baby's mother but she's taken the baby from him as far as paternity goes. Leanne thinks getting married should be enough, he'd still have parental responsibility. She insists she still wants to marry Nick but Toyah points out there's nothing from stopping her *not* marrying him and keeping the baby from him altogether if she wanted to. No wonder Nick feels threatened. Leanne tells Toyah she really doesn't want Steve involved. If she tells Steve that, Toyah reckons, Nick will be happy (if she can stick to it!), he just needs assurance. Toyah agrees she never thought she'd be defending Nick but thinks he'd be a better dad than Steve and that's what matters most.

In the back room, Steve is facing all the Connors and the solicitor who is defining the demands. Steve is trying to talk to Michelle but she's saying silent until she accuses him of lying. He pretended to be devastated when their baby died, all the while knowing he had another child on the way. She doesn't take any defense from Liz either because she knew all along as well. Steve tries to defend himself, he couldn't tell her after she'd lost the baby. Then he makes the mistake of saying how much she's grown to love Amy. Liz isn't able to stop him in time and Michelle hits the roof. Steve refuses to let her have a divorce. The solicitor points out the adulterous elephant in the room. (I think Steve could fight that since he thought Michelle had walked out on him at the time) He also refuses her any part of his assets. She hisses at him "We'll see about that!" and leaves.

Rita compliments Sally on her girls' efforts. Sally, of course, doesn't want her children to be seen as mere window cleaners, they're just earning a bit of extra money to help their father. Mary's there too and tells them that she used to be an assistant blacksmith while traveling with a group of Romanys in eastern Europe. I can just picture her in a leather apron sweating over a force, can't you? She recalls that she was the only one strong enough to lift the horse's leg! I can believe that! So can Sally. Norris finally returns with a fixed table, a mere setting problem it turns out. He asks Sally why Rosie and Sophie are cleaning windows and surmises that the modeling career has gone south. Sally adamantly denies this and leaves on her high horse. Jenny comes in with an arm full of flowers. Rita's face lights up but falls again when she finds out Johnny bought them for Jenny. Mary orders candy and Norris, face in his tablet, asks her to stick the kettle on. She smacks some newspapers down and hollers at him to look after the customers and make his own tea then storms out like a ship at sail. She's taking her afternoon off! Norris remarks that she's been grumpy all day but when she brings up his electronic calendar, he realizes why. He shows it to Mary and Jenny who also look shocked. What could it be?

Sally is outside while Rosie and Sophie are finishing the Kabin windows. Rosie is actually doing her bit, too, rather than just letting Sophie do all the work. Sally wibbles on about how it's a demeaning job for Rosie. Rosie is perfectly happy and cites the added advantage that it's a good upper body workout. Sophie reminds Sally that her husband did the job, too. Sally points out Tim had a hard life. They sent Rosie to private school and she now has a successful career, a flat in London with a balconet! Sally thinks she needs to talk to Kevin about letting Rosie work for money to pay Kevin back. Sophie sees Nick go by and asks if they can do the Bistro windows. Nick says no. Sophie tries to offer a good rate, he says no again and is accused of being rude. He was only rude because of her hard sell tactics. Sophie does wonder why Rosie hasn't gone back to London and asks if the agency isn't missing her. Rosie says they'll just have to work around her but when her back is turned, it's clear she's lying about something...that star career, perhaps?

Outside the pub, the Connors are having a war council with the solicitor who points out that Steve can make things as difficult as he wants. He points out that Michelle doesn't have a financial stake in the business which could be a problem. The entitlement to half isn't necessarily the law so they have to work out a plan. Michelle tells Johnny and Kate she needs a favour.

Daniel has set a nice table for Sinead and has bought them each a sandwich that was on offer and a tin of pop. She smiles at his thoughtfulness (though it would have been cheaper to buy a loaf of bread and a couple of slices of ham) She thinks she could start making and selling soaps again. He offers to help her create a website so she could sell it online, too. She has to get her equipment from Number 5, though and she should get the rest of her stuff. He offers to get it for her but she declines the offer.

Sally is at Kevin's and rattling on about him holding Rosie back. Anna says it's a proper job and nothing to be ashamed about. It's just not good enough for her girls, Sally continues, and accuses him of being a rubbish father. That starts to get Anna's back up. The two women start trading digs and barbs with Kevin stuck in the middle. After Sally accuses Anna of being a bad parent, Anna, in a classic Anna move, loses her temper and tells Sally her precious Rosie was a drugs mule! Sally refuses to believe it but Kevin defends her by saying it was accidental, Rosie didn't know. Rosie then arrives and asks who's going to make her poor, exhausted self a green tea?

Gary and the other construction workers are in the cafe. The one that flirted with Rosie is eyeing up Shona who shoots daggers at him. Gail and David are at another table, having had something to eat. She still hasn't got hold of Nick and is worried. David asks Shona for the bill and tells his mother he'll go see if Nick is at the Bistro. Gail goes into her handbag for her wallet and realizes it's missing. Now, just the minute before, Shona was behind her sweeping so Gail instantly accuses her of stealing from her. She grabs Shona's bag to see if the wallet is in there but Shona yanks it out of her hands and refuses to open it for her. Fine, Gail huffs, they'll wait for Roy to come back.

The truth comes spilling out. The drugs, burying them on Tim's allotment, Adam's involvement. Sally wants to go to the police. When Anna puts her two pennies in, Sally figures Anna is loving all this but Anna says she only takes pleasure in Sally's misfortunes, not those of the rest of the family! Kevin thinks they should leave Adam alone. Sally rounds on Rosie for being stupid which makes Rosie spin around and stalk out. Sally now regrets that private education!

Liz tries to impress on Steve that he's never going to get Michelle back by fighting with her like this. He doesn't think being a doormat is going to be helpful either, and reminds his mother that she does own half of the pub Michelle is after. Eva arrives for her shift.

Rita is sitting alone in a booth. Jenny, Mary and Norris come in with flowers and chocolates, apologetic. Rita is disappointed in them but graciously accepts a large vodka and tonic. They hear the rumbling of a vehicle engine right outside the pub door and a shadow darkens the windows. Steve goes out to find the Underworld delivery van pulled right up onto the side of the street blocking the access to the pub door. They go out the back way and come around. Johnny and Kate had voiced the fact that Michelle is hiding round the bins, probably waiting for their exit. Johnny hopes the plan works and Kate thinks it's a great idea. Liz and Steve start to shout at Johnny and Kate who don't move the van until a text bleeps through. Off they go, but the pub door is locked from the inside with a smug Michelle on the other side, insisting that she'll take what's hers if he's not going to give it.

As the saying goes, "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned" and Michelle certainly has cause to feel scorned. To the consternation of everyone in the Rovers, not to mention Steve who is banging furiously on the door, Michelle turns the key and announces she's having a lock-in. Michelle tearfully explains to her captive audience that she wants a divorce and has demanded Steve gives her half of everything and she intends to start by spending his profits. In that case, says Rita, since it's her birthday they'll have a bottle of Champagne. Better make that two says Jenny, getting into the spirit of things. Norris decides to push the boat out and have a pint instead of his usual half.

Meanwhile Steve isn't getting much sympathy from Tim. Not only does he think Steve's behaved like an idiot, more to the point he wants a pie and a pint and he's stuck on the outside of the door.

In the cafe, Gail is waiting for Roy to return. The moment he walks through the door she tells him how Shona has stolen her purse and refuses to let her check her handbag. Shona insists she didn't take it and at Roy's suggestion empties her bag to prove it isn't there. Gail flounces out and tells Roy neither she nor her family will be eating there again until he gets rid of Shona. Shona insists she's innocent and Roy says he believes her. Shona puts the items back in her bag before pulling a photo of a baby out of her back pocket and staring at it sadly.

Over at Prima Doner Gemma is making Rita a special kebab for her birthday while dispensing relationship advice to Chesney. She tells him the best way to get Sinead back is by making her jealous and going on a date with someone else. She decides he needs to sign up to a dating app but just as she's about to grab his phone a message comes through. Chesney smiles as he reads Sinead's text - Can I come over this evening? S x – and cheerfully tells Gemma there's no need as he already has a date.

Sally arrives home to find Rosie sobbing on the sofa. Sally tells her daughter she's lucky she hasn't decided to call the police and tells her to pull herself together. But Sophie says her mum has no idea what's going on in her life and then confesses all. She doesn't have a boyfriend, a modeling career or anywhere to live as she was sacked by the modeling agency. She tearfully tells her mum that she's right to be ashamed of her. Sally takes Rosie in her arms and gives her a hug.

In the Bistro Nick's is talking to David about his problems. David can't believe he's the one saying this but says maybe fighting with Steve isn't the answer. After all, Max thinks of him as his Dad even though he isn't his biological father. But Nick says that he had Kylie's support whereas he's not sure he can say the same of Leanne.

Back in the Rovers, everyone's enjoying the free drinks. The only person who isn't happy about the situation is Eva. When Michelle asks her to fetch another bottle of Champagne for Rita she refuses and tells Michelle she's made her point. By now Michelle has had quite a few drinks herself and tells Eva she's the most stupid person she knows. She says at least her sister's intelligent, albeit a slag. Eva is understandably upset and tells Michelle she feels betrayed herself as she only just found out that Steve is the father. The slanging match continues and Michelle tells Eva she's fired. Eva refuses to go since Steve is her boss as he owns the pub. Michelle decides to resort to physical means and grabs Eva by the hair. She marches her through to the back, comes back into the bar and asks someone to stick some music on.

The scene moves out to the street where Liz has arrived with cups of coffee while Steve and Tim peer through the window. Eva appears and tells Steve he needs to break the door down. Now, maybe I'm being stupid but presumably Eva has just come out of the back door and walked round the front? In which case, surely Steve could get back in the same way? Clearly I'm missing something because Liz says they've got to get in there somehow so Steve gets out his phone and calls the police.

Gemma turns up outside the Rovers with Rita's kebab. She sees Sinead and lets her know that Chesney has a date tonight. The police are next to arrive, complete with siren and flashing blue lights. It's not exactly the hostage situation they were expecting. "What seems to be the problem, officer?" asks Michelle as she unlocks the door and lets them in.

Rosie is having a heart to heart with Sally. She tells her mum that she admires her for being strong and sticking up for her beliefs, just like Sophie, whereas she doesn't know what she wants. Sally tries to reassure her that she's beautiful and clever. After all, Rosie went to London and America she says, whereas Sally and Sophie haven't even left Weatherfield. Rosie asks why she feels she's let her mum down. Sally doesn't have an answer to that.

Across the road in the Rovers, Michelle is explaining to the police that she's the landlady and she was hosting a birthday party for her friend Rita. Steve interjects that it's his pub and he didn't give permission for a private party. The police conclude it's a domestic matter and warn Steve not to go wasting their time again. Steve tells Michelle she's made her point. She says she hasn't even started yet. There's no way she'll agree to Steve's demand for her to come back and if he won't let her half her half says Michelle, she'll just have to destroy it instead. With that she begins smashing bottles and hurls one straight through the front window. Robert calls after Michelle as she marches out of the pub and across the street.

Gail is on the phone, canceling her credit cards, when David arrives home. He picks up one of Lily's toys. Lo and behold, he finds Gail's purse lying underneath.

Leanne turns up at the Bistro pushing the pram. She tells Nick that everything's kicking off at the Rovers. She adds that she doesn't want them to end up like Steve and Michelle and says she's sorry about this morning. "Look who I've brought to see their Daddy," coos Leanne as she hands Oliver to Nick. Leanne says that she's going to tell Steve that he's got no rights. "This is our baby," she says.

Tim arrives home to find Sally looking miserable. She tells him she's a terrible mother as her daughter couldn't talk to her because she made her feel like a failure. He asks him to be honest with her – is she really that judgmental? He admits Sally can be a bit critical at times; but only because she wants people to make the best of themselves, he adds quickly. Sally decides she needs to think less about her job and more about her family and adds that it includes Tim. She tells him he's her rock and they have a hug.

Gail arrives at the cafe to apologise to Shona although it's rather half-hearted. Shona asks why she bothered if she's not genuinely sorry. Gail tells her she's right, she isn't, and walks out again.

Meanwhile Sally is putting her promise into action. She's taking Rosie out for her tea and they walk along the street deciding where they'll go. As they reach the building site the cheeky builder wolf whistles and shouts out. Rosie replies she isn't in the mood so he calls back that she's a tease. With that Sally marches across and threatens to do him for sexual harassment. She says that if he so much as looks at her daughter again she'll get him sacked.

Across the street, Chesney opens the door to Sinead. She apologises when she hears music and sees the wine glasses on the table – has his date already arrived? Chesney smiles at Sinead and tells her she's here. Oh dear. He says he understands now why she slept with Daniel because she was unhappy but from now on all that's going to change. Sinead gently tells him he's got the wrong end of the stick as she's only come to pick up her stuff. As realization dawns Chesney tells Sinead she'd best get back to Daniel. He won't even let her pick up her stuff and says she can get it another time.

As Sinead walks out into the street she hears Steve shouting up at the flat above the salon. He yells out that Michelle she can have half of everything. Inside the flat Michelle is sobbing to herself and drinking a bottle of wine. Steve slumps down on the bench. Leanne and Nick appear. Leanne tells him that there's nothing to discuss as far as Oliver's concerned. She says that Steve being part of Oliver's life will just confuse him and it's not what they agreed. Steve looks utterly shell shocked as the realization that he's lost everything sinks in.
