Monday 2 May

Written by Chris Fewtrell Directed by Jordan Hogg

Nick returns from a run in the rain. David calls him over and asks when his appointment is. He's told it's at noon but David soon realizes Nick hasn't told Carla and he thinks she should know. Nick doesn't want to tell her unless it's bad news and promises to do the right thing by her.

Sophie and Kevin have bought breakfast at the cafe. He tells her she doesn't have to come in to work if she doesn't want to but she's not of a mind to skive off. He jokes that if she gets a better offer, he's ok with it. Sophie watches Caz and Kate come out of the flat and reckons that's not going to happen.

Michelle is busy, something Aidan notices. He mentions that Steve made a comment about not seeing much of Michelle since he's been back. She's defensive and points out that she's trying to give her best mate the wedding of her life. Aidan tries to advise her, but does it badly, that her job shouldn't get in the way of her marriage. She doesn't seem to thing that he, never having been a married man, has a right to interfere. His retort is that sometimes an outsider to the institution has a clearer view. He defends Steve as being very sorry he messed up. She's not having it and flounces out in a mood.

Jason and Phelan meet up in the front room. It's a bank holiday but Jason is going to go into the yard to do some work. Phelan starts talking about feeling old and Steptoe and Son and a Munich agreement, all of which is before Jason's time and, bless him, it all goes right over his head. Jason doesn't want any help clearing up the yard and snaps at Eileen when she thinks he should take it easy. He does apologize and tells her and Phelan not to change their plans, a day out in Chester. He'll be fine, just needs to keep busy. Off he goes, leaving his mother sighing that she can't find a way to help him. Phelan reassures her and decides to go help him anyway and she tells him not to worry about Chester. Jason needs a friend.

Carla comes out to find Nick in the kitchen, hydrating. She offers him a pyjama day but he wants to get some things done. She lets him know she's making inroads with Gail, after making sure she knows they'll always have a room for her in Devon. He's intent on going out so she decides to do some paperwork in the factory and then consult with Michelle about wedding things because nothing is going to stop her becoming Mrs. Tilsley. I shudder at that statement. Phrase of Doom is what it's called.

Phelan and Jason are beavering away at the yard and bickering about it as well when Todd comes along. Jason goes up stairs and Todd and Phelan have a conversation about trust or the lack thereof but Phelan insists he'd defend both Jason and Todd if he had to because Eileen means a lot to him and her sons are the world to her. He said Jason gave him a chance when nobody else would and he doesn't forget things like that. (he just uses them)

Yasmeen instructs Sharif on the use of the lawn mower. Sally isn't too happy about the impending noise of the mower. She and Yasmeen trade insults about their respective gardens with Sally explaining that Tim will be attending to her shrubbery later. Tim informs her he has to go to work. Yasmeen informs Sharif they're going to christen the garden with a barbeque. Tim wants to pop over later but Sally insists they're busy.

Carla comes across various Platts who are on the way to a petting zoo. David asks after Nick and is told Nick is sorting out things to do with the move and maybe a surprise, she thinks. Gail asks Carla to come by later. She has something for Carla for the wedding. David runs back to ask Carla to go with them but she declines with a smile.

Michelle is waiting for Carla outside the factory, staring off into space. Carla unlocks the door for them.

Nick is at the consultant's office and listing his symptoms, headaches, temper, insomnia. He admits he's worried and stressed over it all and is told he did the right thing coming in. There will be further investigations, an MRI the sooner the better. The doctor can't venture a diagnosis until they know more information. Nick gets frustrated that it can't be sooner than a few days for the test. The day after tomorrow is the soonest they can fit him in and that's not helping Nick's stress levels. The doctor has no guarantees at this point given the nature of his existing injuries, they may never be able to say for certain, but can only make generalities. He advises Nick to go home and wait for his wedding. What wedding, Nick snarls.

Jason, Todd and Phelan are having a pint. Phelan suggests they go to a county match. That doesn't appeal to Todd who would prefer the cinema. Jason is talked into the match.

Kevin and Sophie are back in the cafe. Sophie's been bored in a quiet office on a bank holiday but there's clearly more bringing her down. Cathy tries to maneuver around some bags from Freshcos Yasmeen has on the floor beside the table where she's sitting with Sharif. Apologies all around. They discuss gardens and she invites Cathy to the barbeque just as Sally arrives. She asks Sally again if she'll join them but is told Sally's busy. Yasmeen invites Kevin and Sophie as well. Sally mutters that a downpour is forecast but Kevin reckons a barbeque is just the thing, bringing a scowl out on Sally's face. \

At Platt Towers, Gail has given Carla a pair of earrings and gives her a photo album she's made with family photos. Carla is very touched at Gail's gesture. Gail admits she has come to like and approve of Carla and welcomes her to the family. They even hug.

Kevin and Sophie get ready to leave the cafe. Sophie turns around and bumps into Caz. It looks like a near miss but Caz howls in pain and pretends Sophie caught her on the ankle though she didn't mean it. Sophie is insulted and howls back that she didn't do anything but Kate leads Caz back out to rest her foot. Sophie whines that Caz is playing on Kate's guilt and is sure Caz is up to something.

Carla is looking through the album at home when Nick gets back. She shows it to him and said Gail was actually happy for them. She tells Nick that she was really touched to be accepted. Nick is looking uncomfortable. She cuddles up to him and tells him she couldn't be happier. He hugs her close but looks troubled.

Liz finds Michelle still at Carla's wedding planning. Liz suggests she and Steve do something together but is told there's too much to do for the wedding. Liz asks if she's been a lot more tired than usual lately and defends herself. Steve hasn't said anything but she's got eyes in her head. She knows her son and can tell he's missing the bedroom action by the way he tears up the beer mats. Michelle is not comfortable discussing it with her husband's mother and neither is Liz happy to be talking about her son's love life either. Michelle insists she's just tired. Liz suspects there's more to this and isn't quite sure there isn't something or someone else involved. She knows Michelle has put up with a lot from Steve. She then asks outright if Michelle is sleeping with Will. The credits end and we will have to wait until next episode to find out how Michelle defends herself.

Michelle has worked herself into such a state that Liz accuses her of cheating on Steve. So Michelle confesses everything. It was her 40th birthday, she was feeling abandoned and unloved and … shock, horror … she kissed Will. Liz looks as though she's been punched in the stomach by this revelation.

Carla finally seems to have noticed that all might not be well with Nick but he insists he's fine and changes the subject by picking up a box Carla has left on the table. It's their wedding rings. Nick's face says it all when Carla tells him there's no backing out now.

Sally's enjoying a quiet moment at home when Tim arrives with Steve. He tells Sally he's going to take Steve upstairs to show him where the magic happens. Sally's shocked until Tim explains he's referring to his home brewing kit.

Round at the Nazirs' Yasmeen's in a state. Their guests are due soon and Sharif is struggling to assemble their new barbecue. Hearing the commotion, Sally can't resist offering Tim's services which, needless to say, Yasmeen declines. Sally cattily remarks that she hopes it doesn't rain. Alya and Zee step in and send their grandparents inside to deal with the food while they sort out the barbecue. Once they're on their own Alya admits she's invited Rana. It was Sharif and Yasmeen's idea. They really like Rana but Zee says it's a shame she's a total head case.

In the Rovers Liz picks up the conversation again with Michelle. She's tells her she's the best thing that ever happened to Steve. She doesn't want Michelle ruining her marriage over one snog and advises her it's best swept under the carpet.

Gail's having a drink with Kylie and David. She's hoping to get some decent photos from the wedding to go in the album. Not like the ones she had from their wedding which were more like police mug shots, she tells Kylie. David meanwhile is looking distracted as he sends texts on his phone.

Meanwhile Carla and Nick are trying on their wedding rings for size. When Nick's fits perfectly Carla notices he's on the point of crying but mistakes it for tears of joy. She notices he's been getting loads of texts from David and sends one back on Nick's behalf saying they'll meet him in the Rovers in 15 minutes.

Round at the Nazirs' the guests have started to arrive. Rana can't help commenting on Mary's outfit which is understandable since she's dressed up as though she's going to a palace garden party. Sally looks over the fence from next door and comments on the gazebo they've erected. Yasmeen asks if she's changed her mind about her invitation but Sally tells her she and Tim are having their own, indoor barbecue. Rana uses the opportunity to get even further into Yasmeen's good books and tells her it's a case of "mind over matter" – she shouldn't mind because Sally doesn't matter advises Rana.

Kevin and Sophie's arrival coincides with Kate and Caz. Sophie looks daggers at Caz as she swings past on her crutches.

Back inside at Sally's Tim is giving Steve the benefit of his advice on women. He tells Steve that unsophisticated blokes like them should adopt the caveman approach. But his technique backfires when Sally comes in to tell him it's salmon burgers for tea. "Man want beef!" declares Tim. Sally tells him to stop embarrassing himself, they're having fish because it's much healthier.

Carla and Nick arrive in the Rovers where Gail gives her daughter-in-law-to-be an enormous hug. Kylie mutters Gail wants to adopt her. Carla asks David if everything's sorted. David looks confused. Nick jumps in and says he told Carla that David had been having a bit of a meltdown. "Did you?" asks David, looking at Nick. When Kylies asks what it was about, David quickly makes up a story to cover for Nick. The two men go up to the bar. "Well?" David asks his brother. Nick tells him it's not the time or place to talk about it so David insists they go outside, unless Nick really wants to see a meltdown.

In the backyard of the Rovers Nick tells David about his visit to the consultant except in his version he claims there's been no change in his condition, the episodes he's been having are par for the course and he just needs to rest and relax a bit more. This confuses David – if the doctor confirmed he's OK, how come he's not over the moon? Nick claims it's because he felt a bit stupid for putting David through all that worry.

At the Nazirs' barbecue, Mary has latched on to Rana. She has a number of medical issues she's keen to share with her. Zee can't resist telling Mary that Rana loves to be consulted and she should make the most of the opportunity. Mary is more than happy to oblige.

Caz is telling the other guests about her accident which she says happened when she landed awkwardly in training. "Don't they teach you stuff like that?" asks Sophie, making it clear she's suspicious. Yasmeen mentions that her son was in the armed forces and adds that she's surprised they let Caz off base for treatment. "Me too!" chimes in Sophie. Quick as a flash Caz says she already had leave booked so they allowed her time off to have treatment in the UK. Yasmeen says she must have a very understanding commanding officer.

Steve arrives back at the Rovers. He tells Michelle he's arranged Eva to cover her shift so they can spend an evening together with a movie and a takeaway. But Michelle doesn't seem keen. She claims she'd rather save her night off to do something special. Steve tries Tim's caveman approach. "Steve need quality time!" he announces. When Michelle finds out how he came up with the idea she's even more upset to think Steve's been discussing their love-life with "that numpty".

At the Nazirs' Kevin takes Sophie inside for a word. He advises her not to go interfering with Caz and Kate but Sophie is sure Caz is lying about something. Kevin tells Sophie that even she's right, Kate isn't going to thank her.

Steve is now in the back room of the Rovers with Aidan, seeking his advice about Michelle. Aidan's tells Steve he just needs to be patient with her. He advises Steve to forget all the stupid gimmicks and trust his gut.

Back at the barbecue Mary tells Rana and Zee she can't help noticing they have a very complicated relationship. "It's not a relationship," declares Zee as he walks away. Mary advises Rana to hang in there as she thinks she's wearing him down.

Caz tells Kate she's going inside to rest her leg. Sophie can't resist going to speak to Kate and asking her to tell her again what exactly happened to Caz. This earns Sophie short shrift from Kate who tells Sophie in no uncertain terms that it's not her concern. At that moment the heavens open and all the guests rush inside to the delight of Sally who's watching from her window. Only Sharif and Yasmeen are left. He tells her he knows why she wanted to hold a barbecue, as a distraction. "I miss him too, you know," he tells her. Yasmeen claims she doesn't know what Sharif is talking about.

Nick and Carla are at home. She tells Nick she really enjoyed this evening then laughs that she's a bit worried that Gail's going to start stalking her. Carla then confesses something to Nick – after the episode with David earlier she was worried Nick had got cold feet. This distracts Nick who is in the middle of making tea and he pours water onto his hand. He completely over-reacts, smashing a mug in the process. A piece catches Carla on the cheek. She doesn't even feel it but seeing the blood on her cheek, Nick starts to sob in horror of what he's just done. As he cries like a baby Carla takes him in her arms.

Wednesday 4 May

Hi everyone. I have volunteered to do this update for Annie so she can do the next one. Writer this evening was Mark Wadlow and the director was Jordan Hogg. Copyright remains the property of ITV Studios to whom many thanks.

We open at the Platt's, Gail is moaning (surprise) about a leaky tap. Jason is coming over with the cupboard doors today. She will ask him to look at the tap and he has made a good job of the door. Sarah dances down stairs with a huge smile on her face. Harry is still sparko and Sarah has had a good night's sleep. Sarah is wearing David's clean socks - but Kylie comes to her defense. Kylie says she needs a good pampering and she and David will do it all for free. Gail refuses to babysit.

Lee asks Steve for some change but when Billy appears he runs away. Billy goes after him.

Sharif and Zeedan discuss Rana - her game playing drives him mad. So Yasmeen. Sharif reminds Zeedan that it is nearly a year since Kal's demise and she is ultra sensitive at the moment.

Across the Street we hear Jason on the phone - going to sort Gail's leaky tap and the cupboard doors. Pat tells him off for wasting time on piddly little jobs. Eileen tells Jason that she has seen Liz who is also mourning Tony's death but Jason says it is crocodile tears. Jason refuses to invite Liz to the funeral because she never gave Tony a break so she does not deserve one.

Kate tells Caz that her phone is ringing. It is Linda the Support Officer - and before the discussion can take place Caz makes sure that Kate is out of earshot. Linda wants to visit Caz - but (and she does not know that Kate is still listening) Caz says that is not possible and cannot happen.

Jason arrives at the Platt's and goes to start work on the tap in the annex telling Sarah to bring a drink through. Sarah asks him to do the doors first. He agrees.

Billy and Sean are in Roy's Rolls. Billy is not keen on morning service. Anyway Sean can cheer him up - the holiday is booked. And the boss has agreed - not the Bishop - him upstairs. Anyway the deposit has to be paid by Friday morning. Billy is not happy about it, cannot afford it, may not get the time off. Sean is insistent that they both need holidays and he has been fobbed off several times. Sean gives him his half of the deposit and tells him to go and pay the travel agent by the church. As Sean goes he crosses with Carla coming in and notes the cut on her cheek. She and Nick sit down. Nick apologises again for lashing out. And Carla says it is the third time and she is not worried. Nick needs to stop stressing and spend some time with the Platt's whilst he is not working (bad idea - they will really stress him out). Nick tells her that he loves her and is desperate to marry her. And he will not accept any buts. They are both smiling at each other.

Jason is fitting doors. Sarah says they are nicer than the old ones - to me and to Jason they look identical! Jason has memories of the place - he is referring to working there with Tony, Sarah has other nastier memories of course. Jason asks how could Tony die and Sarah responds that she does not know - but she is thinking of another death. Jason apologises as Tony did not die there. Sarah can take no more and goes to check on Harry.

Yasmeen tells Sharif that she did not sleep well, she has only just come downstairs. She has spent the night worrying about the hostess with leastest! Yasmeen thinks she is looking down on her. Sharif tells her to let it wash over her. Yasmeen would doze off and then see her condescending face (!). Yasmeen has thought of something which will drive her crazy. She will tell Sharif once she has made a call.

Kate asks Caz about the conversation and the latter tells her off for listening to a private conversation. Kate wants to know what Caz is hiding. No answer.

Back at the Platts Sarah brings Harry downstairs. Jason needs his tools in the annex. She cannot enter the annex and Jason rushes out. Sarah says she cannot go in there - he is in there she says but when Jason asks for an explanation she stops talking.

After the break Jason has finished working and wants to know why Sarah freaked out. She blames it on not getting any sleep since Harry was born. Sarah says she has been having nightmares about Richard (Hillman). Sarah assures him she will be fine once she gets some decent sleep. Gail arrives with Nick. All the work is done. Jason does not charge for the tap and having checked Sarah is OK he departs. Nick gets the baby sitting job so that Sarah can go and be pampered by David and Kylie. Sarah's face lights up and she heads to the salon.

Kate and Caz argue over the visit by the Support Officer. Their shouting carries down to the cab office where Tim and Eileen stare at the ceiling. When Lloyd and Andrea lived up there Eileen always knew they had had a barney before Lloyd arrived for work. Eileen answers a call and passes the booking onto a driver (Vince). Then Tim decides to offer her some advice on being more chirpy with the customers. She tells him to keep his nose out of her work and Steve's love life. Who does he think he is - Omar Sharif? She will not be following his advice as they will go bust in six months. Michelle is fuming that her sex life has been discussed. Tim cannot believe Steve dobbed him in. She tells him to keep his trap shut in future.

Sean is wearing a new shirt and is looking forward to their first holiday together. And they can go all inclusive for an extra £50 each. Billy keeps on raising objections. But Sean will not be moved.

Caz and Kate are making up. Caz is trying to move on - but Sophie's constant presence does not help. Kate wants Caz to put the events behind them. They hug. The whole Support Officer visit story then vanishes.

Sarah has been glammed up and Audrey has a fascinator which David, Kylie and Sarah all find highly amusing. Both girls want to try it on. David does likewise. It is the most fun which Sarah has had in weeks - David has been making Sarah laugh all the time.

Nick is getting Harry to sleep - but when he stands his headache is bad.

Pat Phelan is measuring Yasmeen's garden - he is able to put in an orangery which will be huge and annoy the neighbours and she also wants the inside revamped as well. If it annoys Sally Metcalfe it will be a real bonus.

Sarah returns home. Harry is crying and Nick's head is banging. Nick tells her off for being too long. He is nasty and offhand. He calls Harry a handful. Nick realises he has gone too far and calms down. He tells her she looks nice. She asks Nick if she could move back in with him. And with Harry of course. Nick tells her she is joking - it has done his head in being with Harry for a few hours - being in the same residence would be impossible. Nick says No and when she protests he sharply tells her that the world does not revolve around her. He slams the doors as he leaves.

At the Rovers bar Pat is telling Jason that the orangery should be a nice little earner. Pat tells Jason off for fixing a leaking tap for free.

Erica and Eileen can see Jason is upset - he still has to clear Tony's stuff and the funeral is looming. Erica says that Liz is really struggling. Apparently she is so bad she is thinking of going to see Andy in Spain she's so bad. Eileen says that Jason will not budge.

Sophie and Tim discuss Sal - Tim keeps putting his foot in his mouth. He also tells Sophie about the barney upstairs between Kate and Caz.

Sarah is at the kitchen table staring at the door into the annex crying. When Harry starts crying she visibly flinches.

Roll credits.

Richard

Friday 6 May

Hmmm, it's a week later than my last post and they're still talking about clearing out Tony's flat.

Todd plans to go with Phelan and Jason, though Eileen wonders what he's up to. She warns him off causing any trouble.

Meanwhile, Steve's getting relationship advice over the breakfast table. Nothing unusual in that, except that it's Amy giving it to him. She reminds him that she's in a relationship herself, with Sam. She reminds Steve that Michelle's probably feeling neglected.

Simon's behaviour is improving - he even made Leanne breakfast in bed this morning, she tells Zeedan. We don't get to see Simon so we'll just have to take her work for it that he's not been sold into a life of indentured servitude. Zeedan sees Rana across the road and his demeanour changes. Leanne asks if they've had a row.

Caz tries to persuade Kate to take a day off work and come back to bed, but Kate won't. She suggests they have a drink later on.

Michelle asks Liz where Steve has got to and Liz tells her he's gone into town but she has no idea why. However, he has left a note and his credit card. The note says he's going to make everything up to her and tonight he's cooking a romantic dinner for two. Michelle's more worried than thrilled by this. Liz tells her it's Steve's way of saying sorry.

Phelan and Todd snap at each other.

Sophie stops Sarah to admire baby Harry. She thinks he looks just like Sarah, though it seems she's the first person to mention it. Kylie comes over and starts asking questions. It seems Sarah's been out all morning. Sarah snaps at her because she feels she's being interrogated.

At Tony's flat, Jason wonders if this is what life amounts to - a few nice clothes, a flash motor and the numbers of some birds you're never going to call. He's very weepy. Todd tells him that Tony had something else going for him. "You." Phelan reminds them there's still the lock-up to clear.

Sean comes into the taxi office and tells Eileen he's just had a call from the travel agent. Billy didn't pay the deposit on the holiday.

Tony's lock-up if full of the kind of stuff he used to try to sell through Barlow's Buys. Phelan's eyes light up and he wants to sell it but Jason refuses. He knows it will all be stolen. He has to get to his appointment with Tony's solicitor and Todd begins to go off with him. But they're barely out of Pat's sight when Jason tells Todd to play nice and help Phelan.

Michelle tells Carla the dreadful news that Steve's left her the credit card and approved a spending spree. It makes her feel guilty. Carla's appalled to hear that Liz knows about Will. "Why can't you just be like a normal person and lie?" She tells Michelle she just has to live with her guilt and make sure it never happens again. She and Michelle head off to use the credit card.

Todd arrives back at the lock-up in time to overhear Phelan on the phone to someone called Jeffrey, telling him to bring the van because he's got something for him. Todd tiptoes away.

Sean and Eileen have a heart-to-heart. Sean's beginning to doubt his relationship with Billy. Billy comes in and Sean tells him they've lost the holiday. "I'm sorry," says Billy. "Are you?" asks Sean. He wants Billy to explain. Billy wants to go somewhere private to do that.

Sarah's taken Harry to the medical centre for a check-up. Nurse Rana tells her he's perfectly normal. Sarah asks her if she thinks babies can pick up on atmosphere - and she doesn't mean among the living.

Phelan's mate says he'll take the contents of the lock-up. They'll load the van and then talk money. Todd, peeking around a corner, films them on his phone.

Steve's been talking to Lloyd on the phone. He tells Amy that Andrea's just had a baby girl weighing over 10 pounds. Amy's horrified. She's never going to have a baby. She plans to tell Sam they'll have to adopt. She tells Steve to make sure he gets everything ready before Michelle gets back.

Bill admits to Sean that he lied. Something happened to do with a parishioner which means they can't go on holiday. He says he's still got the week's holiday booked off so maybe they can get away somewhere a bit closer. Sean tells him he feels as if he's very low down on Billy's list of priorities. He gets up and leaves.

Zeedan tells Leanne about Yasmeen's feud with Sally and her plans for an orangery. Rana comes into the bistro to see him but Zeedan says he's not got time.

Jeffrey and Phelan haggle over money, eventually settling on three thousand pounds. Jeffrey hands over a roll of notes. Phelan fumbles it and when he bends down to pick it up he spots Todd's arm with the phone, filming them. He's very angry and in that tight, controlled way he has when he's angry, he asked Jeffrey if he's got a printer.

Billy goes to Eileen's and tells her he and Sean have had a row.

Sophie and Kate talk outside the factory - Sophie's just giving her a message about a van that's been serviced. Neither of them notice an angry Caz across the street.

Michelle and Carla are back. Michelle tells Carla she knows she's just trying to help but she doesn't know if she can keep on pretending everything's all right. Carla points out she went through a similar crisis not so long ago. "Don't tell him."

Leanne tries to give Rana relationship advice but it seems Rana's convinced Leanne is after Zeedan herself. She's seen them having little chats. Leanne laughs at that and advises Rana to just be straight with Zeedan and tell him how she feels. Rana walks straight through to the kitchen, despite Leanne trying to stop her. "We need to talk," she tells Zeedan. "I want you back and I'm not going to take No for an answer."

Billy asks Eileen about Phelan and she says she can't remember when she was last this happy. [Soap line of doom, that is!] Todd arrives back and despite Eileen protesting that she's sick of his attitude to Phelan, he shows her the footage on his phone. Eileen's face falls.

The end.
Margaret Carr

Welcome to another update. This is episode 8898 and I have literally just finished writing the last update to find a week has passed and I have another one to do - well we were a bit busy with a wedding on Friday, out to dinner on Saturday and then reading the papers on Sunday.

This episode was written by Perrie Balthazar and directed by Jordan Hogg. Copyright remains the property of ITV Studios to whom many thanks.

Before getting on the verbal Street key to the previous episode and this one was a performance by Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney). Elle has been Amy since May 2010 and has had regular nominations for awards. Anyway tonight she played an absolute blinder. With Blanche for great-grandmother, Deirdre and Liz as grandmothers and Tracy as her mother we might expect the genes to show through - and boy are we seeing that - the way she took £30 off Liz a couple of weeks ago, got Steve pointing in the right direction and also talked some sense into 'Chelle. Sometimes writers and directors can just hand it to a youngster and it works like magic. Elle appears to be in exactly the same right place at the moment.

We open in the back room of the Rovers where the table is laid, the flowers are ready and Liz knows they need to make themselves scarce - but Amy is waitress for the evening. Liz wishes Steve good luck.

Todd has presented the video evidence that Pat is a thief but neither Billy nor Eileen are buying it. Pat arrives and suggests a Chinese as a treat. Todd accuses him of flogging Tony's stuff and saying he has a video to prove it. Pat admits he did sell it. Todd gives him an earful of abuse for robbing Jason. Pat explains he went through the boxes, found one with all the legitimate paperwork, so Pat did Jason a favour and sold the goods for £2000 all for Jason. And Pat puts two rolls of notes on the side for Jason. Pat says he phoned Jason earlier but had to leave a voice mail message. Todd has been completely stitched up like a kipper and he knows it. Pat makes tea all round.

Rana is in the Bistro kitchen explaining that she gets messed about and has very high walls. But she knows Zeedan is different - he is not fake or shallow, he is real. She admits she tried to make him jealous - but it is only because she likes him so much. So she tilts her head to one side and says "So...?". Leanne bustles in wanting extra quinoa. Rana says she is leaving and Zeedan lets her go. But before she is through the door he asks if she wants to come back later for dinner on him. She nods and goes. Leanne smiles at him.

In the Rovers back yard Michelle is not all dressed up and is deep in thought. Amy tracks her down and asks if she is hungry. There are Dolphin-noise potatoes (Dauphinoise) out of a packet but Steve did everything else himself. Amy tells her that Steve can be a right clown which makes Michele laugh - but he is trying to make everything perfect. Amy asks Michelle if she still loves Steve and of course she does. And she is not leaving Steve. Amy says she knows Steve loves Michelle and so does Amy. Amy says that if Steve can't be with Mum (Tracy) then the only person he should be with is Michelle (remember there were two other step-mothers - Karen and Becky). Michelle gives her a huge hug and says thank you. Michelle follows her in.

Todd is still hacked off and heads to the pub. Pat is being extremely magnanimous saying that Todd was merely looking out for Jason. Eileen says he has rarely been that brotherly. Eileen says she will apologise when Todd does to Pat. Todd offers Billy a pint and they head off to the Rovers together. Todd comes back to say he will apologise once he has seen all those receipts. Eileen simply points at the £2k on the sideboard all thanks to Pat. Pat says they will see him in the Rovers later.

Amy brings in a large jug of water. Steve then tells her to play the violin. Quite clearly Amy is not actually learning to play the violin. She did not find a dress in town, but Steve tells her she is quite gorgeous - stunning in fact. Michelle wants to know if Amy is playing Westlife - but it is Beethoven! Steve observes that he will be singing along in his grave (whilst rotating rapidly think the rest of us) and Michelle grins as the screeching restarts.

Gemma (Callum's former drug mule and now Dev's kebabist) presumably has the evening off, even though Ches is sunning himself in Portugal, and is telling Eva at the bar that the Rovers needs a better variety of alcopops and more eye-candy. Todd and Billy arrive with the former still moaning about Pat. Billy points out that all he has managed to achieve is to bring Pat and Eileen closer. Billy continues to counsel Todd on not alienating his family. Eva observes that they were looking for eye-candy and it is much better now. Gemma almost asleep observes that they both bat for the other team. In a booth Kate and Caz are discussing three episodes from a box set and a massive pizza each. Kate makes disparaging remarks about Caz's former girlfriend who looked like a terrier. Sophie creeps in and joins them - Caz maintains a broad smile.

Steve says he has not cooked much for Michelle. She says she did not marry him for his cooking skills. He asks for her top 10 reasons for marrying him and before she can answer he volunteers his top 10. She is fit - proper turn-heads, make cars crash fit. She does not know how fit she is. Two she is funny. Not as funny as Lloyd - but then who is? And three her loyalty. Not just him - but also Carla and Ryan (her drug consuming non-son). Steve puts his foot in it. He is simply trying to make up for all the time he has been gone. And then he realises the potatoes are burning! Michelle tells him to stop going out about the dinner (so he sits down without turning off the oven) as it is the least of their worries.

We revert to the bar and Kate says that on behalf of herself and Caz that it was silly for them all to dodge each other. So Kate suggests they all forget the past and all go back to being mates. Sophie agrees. In the bar there are a couple communicating by sign language and we find this is one of Eva's other talents (I gather she is also launching a recording career as well as being a new mother).

Eileen and Pat arrive in the Rovers and at Billy's prompting Todd approaches them. He says Billy has talked some sense into him - he was just trying to protect Jason at a difficult time and he got it wrong. So he suggests a truce. Pat encouraged by Eileen says truce as well and they shake hands. Billy suggests Todd buys a round to make the fresh start. Jason arrives, admits he got Pat's message and says he should be buying the drinks. Apparently Tony has done quite well for himself he admits as Eva delivers a pint. £80k plus the flats and the yard. Jason is now a landlord with money in the bank. Eileen observes that Tony was claiming to be on his uppers - the lying dog. [I think this is where the story slips, it was supposed to be Liz that Jason has problems with but it was rewritten at short notice and now Eileen is in the firing line]. Jason tells her to stop to having a go at Tony. He wants his dad shown some respect. She cares more about Liz than how Jason feels. She tries to calm him down. But he remains riled and that he does not want her at the funeral. He warns her to stay away.

After the break we see Gemma fancying Jason across the bar. Pat and Todd are friendly and Pat suggests Jason goes home to chat to his mother. In the Street Billy congratulates Todd on his apology - but the latter makes it clear that he still does not trust Pat. Todd will be watching the creep's (Pat) every move. He will not allow Jason to be ripped off. Jason is asking Pat for advice about the flats - in the past he has always turned to Tony and Pat will help him out.

Michelle is saying the last year has been difficult for her as well. She thought she was getting her Steve back and she was proud that part of it was down to her. And then she felt he ran away. And she visited and he was fine, in fact he was the old Steve, no cares, laughing and he got better without her and did not want to come home to her. He has returned for her and Amy and Michelle saved his life - without her his life is worth nothing.

Gemma asks about Eva's ability to read signing - a mate at school was always getting her into trouble, swearing at the teachers. Eva moves to talk to Jason saying that Tony always was a bit of a law unto himself. Jason admitted he was expecting the solicitor to unmask a couple of secret wives! Eva thinks it is lovely that Tony has left Jason set up. And Eva makes it clear that she is not interested - she is with Aidan.

Kate goes to the ladies and Caz takes the opportunity of being alone with Sophie to ask the latter not to take Kate away from her. Sophie denies it - but Caz says that Kate is all she has got.

Gemma wants to remodel the pub as a sports bar. Not likely. Jason follows Eva into the hallway and apologises and thanks for listening to him. He is glad she cares. She gives him a hug and then he tries to kiss her. He invites Eva back to his place but she tells him to leave - she is with Aidan.

A distressed Sarah returns with Harry having been out most of the day. She does not understand how Kylie can sit there quietly drinking tea with the knowledge of what happened and that Callum is in the annexe. Sarah is sure that Harry can sense Callum. Kylie says that Callum is not really there, he has gone forever and cannot hurt them any more. Sarah wants to go and stay with Audrey. Kylie says it is not fair as Audrey is getting on and could not manage a crying baby. Kylie says she knows how Sarah is feeling - if she stays then she can help Sarah. They can help each other.

Rana thanks Zeedan for dinner, gives him a huge smacker on the lips and then departs saying that she cannot resist his cooking. He admits to Leanne that he and Rana will see how it goes. Leanne tells Zeedan to take it easy - she is a handful and she knows because she is one as well. Leanne does not want to see him get hurt.

At the Rovers a chuckling Steve is heading towards the stairs at a run pulling Michelle behind him when they run into a shocked looking Liz. She asks if everything is sorted and Michelle tells her that they have had a long talk and they are going to move on.

In the bar Jason demands another pint - but Eva refuses as he is the worse for wear. Gemma buys it - pulling an emergency fund out of her bra. Jason asks Gemma what she is doing tonight - nowt is the answer. So Jason invites her back to his. Eva tries to stop them, but Gemma immediately says yes. Eva points out she just knocked him back. Gemma says Eva had her chance, grabs Jason's hand and pulls him out of the pub. Jason makes it clear that henceforth he will do what he wants to do. And because she cares Eva gets the closing shot as Jason and Gemma depart.

Roll credits.

As I remarked last week Stuart Blackburn remains the credited Producer for this episode - but we must be close to the point at which this changes.

Roy is due back from his agreed absence in the near future and Carla leaves at the end of the month. And BGT is on so the schedules will soon be disrupted.

Liz did not look great when she appeared in the penultimate scene - she vanishes about now.

See you next week.

Monday 9 May

Written by Ellen Taylor Directed by David Kester

Gemma stumbles down the stairs, gathering her bits and pieces. Jason doesn't ask her to stay on so she lurches out the door, trailing clothes behind her. Jason turns and sees his suit hanging on the door.

Erica startles Michelle, having let herself in with a key Liz gave her. She also has Liz on the phone and hands it to Michelle since Steve is still in bed. The funeral is today, Erica says, and Liz sounds a bit shaky. She's gone to Spain, you see, to get away.

In the cafe, Anna arrives for her shift. Cathy has installed a fancy coffee machine unbeknownst to Roy. Cathy has obtained it to keep up with the competition, free if they buy the coffee from the provider. She does agree she'll call Roy later and tell him. Alex arrives with a smile and asks if his friend Jordan can come over for a bit. Cathy says he can but reminds him he has a shift after lunch. He notices the coffee machine and asks for an espresso. She has trouble making it work but Anna points out it needs coffee and water first.

Sarah is juggling a crying baby. Gail talks to Kylie about a pampering afternoon for the women before the hen do. Gail goes to take the baby from her and into the annex but Sarah doesn't want Harry anywhere near any hint of a ghost so decides to take him out for a walk.

Jason, Sean and Todd are sitting in the front room, Sean examining Jason's trousers that seem to be either dirty or damaged. Eileen arrives, wearing her bathrobe which is, at least, black but isn't going to the funeral because Jason doesn't want her there. Jason affirms this. They exchange bitter words, Eileen accusing him of using Gemma for comfort rather than actually caring for her. They shout at each other until Phelan comes in. Todd holds him back from interfering, this is family business.

Gail is taking advantage of the new coffee machine in the cafe. She tells them about the pre-hen do pamper party but then realizes that they don't think it's a good idea, not really something Carla would enjoy. Gail tastes the coffee and asks for chocolate sprinkles. It doesn't seem to meet approval, not nearly as good as Nick's. Alex's friend comes in and there are a few other lads behind him. Alex helps them get smuggled in. They're carrying arms full of beers!

Sinead is on Skype with Chesney who is having a great time with Joseph and is thinking of staying on. She doesn't seem impressed and tells him nothing much is going on for her. She seems upset that he's planning to go out in a speedboat fishing. Craig is clattering with the ironing board behind her so the end of the conversation is a bit muddled. He's ironing a group of shirts because he can't decide which one he's going to wear to meet Caitlyn after school. Sinead offers to help him match up an outfit.

Jason doesn't seem too happy with a eulogy he's written and bunches it up. Phelan comes in and tries to convince Jason to let Eileen go to the funeral but he refuses. They are told that the funeral car is there and they need to get going. Todd sends Phelan out before he and Sean guide Jason out, with a quick tie straightening. Todd picks up the crumpled paper, too, just in case. Outside, people gather by the hearse as Jason comes out. Eva is there when Jason looks at the coffin. Across the road, we see Roy! He asks Gemma who's passing by who the funeral is for and is surprised to hear it's Tony. He slopes off toward the cafe. Eileen comes out behind Jason and Todd and pleads but is again refused. She goes inside, upset.

After the break, we're in the cafe and Roy has arrived. He spots the coffee machine right away and asks about it but Cathy is excited to see him and asks after Sylvia who is recovering. He attempts to go upstairs but Cathy tells him that Alex has a friend over and offers to make him a brew in the cafe. Roy notices that a picture has been moved too and it seems to unsettle him. Roy likes things in their own place!

We are at the church. Billy is waiting for the funeral but Lee comes up behind him wanting cash for a bed for a night or two. He is insistent that he get it just as the cars arrive. Billy shoves some cash at him, not enough but all he has and Lee takes off to the back. Everyone gets out of the cars. Billy tells Jason they'll give Tony a good send off. Todd has noticed Lee leaving but Billy tells him it was a troubled parishioner. The coffin is taken into the church by men unknown to we viewers.

Back on the Street, Gemma knocks on the door of Number 11 to retrieve a hair scrunchie. Eileen lets her in and then apologizes for Jason's behavior, the one night comfort stand. Gemma isn't bothered. Eileen thinks she should be, as Gemma is cute and sparky... but not pretty, adds Gemma. Eileen recalls thinking of herself the same way at that age, willing to take on any man that would have her even if they treated her like dirt. She took Tony back a few times. Gemma reckons Eileen loved Tony and tells her that she loved Callum who wouldn't look twice at her but it didn't matter. She thinks Eileen should be at the funeral. Everyone deserves to say goodbye to the ones they love, she says.

Sinead has helped Craig put together a rather natty suit jacket, shirt and assures him he looks hot and like he made an effort. Caitlyn comes up the road talking on her phone, dressed casually as usual. He runs to her and hugs her and tells her he's taking her to the Bistro for the early bird special. Turns out she's turned vegetarian and hadn't told him. It looks like she's got something else on her mind she hasn't told him, too.

Kylie and Max find Sarah sitting on the bench eating a pasty, baby in the pram. Kylie knows she's avoiding being in the house. Sarah tells Kylie that Harry stops crying when he's outside of the house, as if he can sense Callum's presence, which Kylie thinks is ridiculous. Kylie tries to get her to see sense.

Billy speaks about Tony, a character with a big presence. He describes Tony as a restless soul but a good one. Aside from a few of the characters, there are only 3 or 4 other people scattered through the church. Billy talks about Tony's love for his son. Sean gets emotional as Billy continues, urging people to celebrate Tony's life. Billy asks Jason if he wants to speak and Todd pulls out the speech, telling him he'll regret it. Jason takes a deep breath and goes up to the pulpit.

Cathy talks to Roy about Sylvia while Anna struggles with the coffee machine which is proving popular. Cathy convinces him to keep it for a trial. Roy admits he wasn't trying to surprise Cathy in a romantic way but he did want to be with her. Today was .... but they are interrupted by very loud music crashing from upstairs. Roy and Cathy jump up and head through the door. Upstairs there are a group of young men staggering about the flat with beer, and knocking things over. Roy freaks out when he sees a broken windmill and throws them all out. He even shouts at Alex, clearly upset.

Jason starts talking, but not using the written speech but speaking from the heart. He talks about Tony coming back into his life, making up for the past. Even Todd is wiping his eye. Jason notes that most people didn't trust Tony who proved most of them wrong. Just as he's about to finish, Eileen comes into the church quietly. Jason stops talking and then orders her out.

Eileen's arrival at Tony's funeral causes a disruption to proceedings. Despite Todd and Billy's efforts to calm him down, Jason is adamant he doesn't want his mother there and Eileen decides she'd better go.

As Roy clutches the broken pieces of his precious model windmill, Cathy apologises and promises Alex will pay for it. But Roy tells them there are some things that can't be measured by monetary value. Cathy says they'll have the flat cleaned up in no time and Alex offers to help but Roy tells him he's done enough damage. In a rare show of emotion Roy snaps back that he doesn't think their living arrangements can continue and announces he's going out – he wants to find somewhere that doesn't smell of pizza.

Craig's date with Caitlin in the Bistro isn't going too well. He tries to talk to her about their plans for uni. He hopes she'll get into Manchester and he'll get in next year so they'll be together but, judging by her curt responses, that's the last thing Caitlin wants.

Gail gets home from shopping for Carla's do and she's wittering on about going to pay her respects to Jason. Her remark about Tony being alive one minute and buried in a hole in the ground the next pushes Sarah ever closer to breaking point. This goes completely unnoticed by Gail who's worried she's forgotten the Thousand Island dressing. Sarah immediately offers to go and buy some – any excuse to get out of the house. Kylie comes in and says she's off to get Max so Sarah offers to go with her. But Sarah can't escape that easily – her mother insists she stays to help put up the bunting.

The funeral service is over but Eileen is still waiting outside with Sean, Eva and Todd while Phelan is with Jason. Phelan comes over and suggests Eileen should talk to Jason. She doesn't think there's any point since Jason hates her but Phelan says she's his mum, Jason loves her and she should remind him of that fact.

In the cafe Cathy is giving Alex a talking to. She tells him he betrayed Roy's trust and now Roy wants them to go. Sinead comes in and has a chat with Cathy about Ches. It sounds like he's enjoying Portugal and Sinead is getting a bit fed up. Alex meanwhile is worrying about Roy and he suggests to Cathy he could make amends by cooking a paella for tea but Cathy tells him the damage has been done. Sinead overhears and when they tell her what's happened she tells them not to worry – Roy's a sensitive person but she's sure he only snapped in the heat of the moment and he didn't really mean it. Carla's next to come in. She asks Cathy if Roy's all right, given what day it is. Cathy looks confused. Today would have been Hayley's birthday, explains Carla. Cathy's face falls as the penny drops.

Back at the church Eileen finds Jason standing by Tony's grave. She tries to talk to him but all of her anger comes pouring out. He blames his mum for pushing Tony away when Jason was a child, leaving him without a dad. A tearful Eileen stands her ground as she tells him it's not fair and untrue. Tony was the one who kept walking out and she hated him for the fact that it hurt Jason but there were times she loved him, too. She loved him because he was Jason's dad she tells him. The truth finally dawns on Jason. "I miss him so much, Mum," he sobs as Eileen gently wipes away his tears.

Eileen sits beside Jason on a bench in the graveyard as they talk about his dad. She tells Jason that he inherited the best bits of Tony and so his dad will never be totally gone as all the best parts of him will live on through Jason.

Meanwhile, on another bench in Coronation Street, Roy is also thinking about someone who is gone. His thoughts are broken into by Carla who comes rushing over to welcome him back. Roy is pleased to see her but he admits that he had hoped to spend the day at home remembering Hayley but now it seems his journey with Cathy has come to an end. He says he can't cope with the fact that Cathy is happy to live in chaos whereas he is totally different. Carla tells him being different isn't always a bad thing and he and Cathy bring out the best in each other. Roy admits he may have made a horrible mistake. He tells her Cathy's in the cafe with his broken windmill so Carla suggests he should go and fix it. Roy replies he doesn't have the requisite skills, he'll have to take it somewhere. Carla laughs and gently tells him she wasn't referring to the windmill.

Sinead's Skyping with Chesney but he only manages to chat for five minutes as they're having a barbecue and he's being called. Sinead complains that everyone's having a nice tea except her. Ches suggests they could have a romantic meal together on Friday – they'll both cook the same thing, light some candles and Skype each other. Their call is cut short by Katie calling Ches and Craig arriving home with a face like a wet weekend. He tells Sinead he hasn't got a clue where things have gone wrong with Caitlin. She says relationships are hard, especially long distance ones.

Round at the Platts', Kylie's trying to talk some sense into Sarah and pull herself together from dwelling on Callum. She tells her she must just try and forget about him. "Forget about who?" asks Gail who's decided she needs to test the pink sparkling wine for Carla's do. Sarah and Kylie make up some story about a man Sarah saw at the gym so Bethany wants to know why she hasn't been told about it. Gail says as long as he's not a drug dealer with a silly swagger she'll be happy.

At the Rovers, Steve's doing his best to pull his weight. Michelle comes through in time to see him drop a large pile of boxes. She gives him a kiss and reassures him he doesn't need to try and impress her – their relationship is fine.

Roy comes home in time to see Cathy and Alex, bags packed, ready to leave. He awkwardly tries to explain about what happened earlier. Cathy tells him she now knows about it being Hayley's birthday. Roy replies that the reason he wanted to be at home was because his mother can be very insensitive and he wanted to be surrounded today by people he feels deeply about. "I wanted to be with you, Cathy," he says, in case his meaning wasn't clear. Suddenly Roy announces he's hungry. Cathy mentions Alex makes a good paella then adds that maybe it's not Roy's sort of thing but Roy says maybe it would be good for him to try different things.

Eileen and Jason are now back at home and she produces a bottle of Tony's favourite Scotch so they can toast his memory. "Thanks, mum," says Jason. They start to reminisce and begin to laugh over the fact Tony was scared of spiders. Phelan comes in and is pleased to see that Jason and Eileen have made things up. He says Sean and Todd have been in a flap so Eileen says she'd better so and see them. Jason asks if she can get him some sausages and chips on her way back. Eileen is happy to oblige, delighted he's got his appetite back. After she's gone Phelan pours them both another drink. He tells Jason he'd have made his dad proud today. Jason says he doesn't know about that but Phelan says it's not about falling down but about how you pick yourself up. "And you have," he says, adding that it's the same in business and that you have to have the strength to succeed. Raising his glass, Phelan tells Jason they have the world at their fingertips and their empire awaits.

Wednesday 11 May

Jason is loading up the van for a day of work. Pat is trying to gee him along to get busy and also start thinking about the flats Tony had. Jason suddenly sees Gemma and rushes off, leaving Pat looking a little irritated.

Across the Street, Jason apologises to Gemma for the other night, he says he was an idiot, and they arrange to meet around 5pm for a drink in the Rovers.

Gail goes to the factory with an invitation for Carla to a pamper party at her house later on. Carla doesn't look keen, but thanks her and says it's thoughtful of her, but she's unfortunately up to her eyes in work right now. "Aren't I Johnny?" she says, looking pleadingly at him. Gail interrupts and says she's already cleared it with Johnny and Aidan that Carla could be spared, so she says she'll expect her at 3.30. Johnny avoids Carla's gaze and looks uncomfortable, as Carla then has to accept.

Over in the salon, Nick asks David what he's doing about a stag night. David says he thought they'd keep it low-key. Nick gets irritable and says David should be taking it more seriously. David replies that just a few guys together for a drink is not going to take a lot of organising. Just then Nick gets a phone call, he looks down to see it's his consultant ringing, he doesn't answer it, but snaps at David to forget it, he'll do it himself, and then he walks out.

Tim is in the cafe with Jack, who is off school ill. Tim tells Roy that Kevin was busy so he drew the short straw. Roy tells him that Sally is lucky to have him, he's a good family man.

Todd comes into the cafe and sits down with Billy, who is sitting looking thoughtful. Billy asks how Jason is, and Todd says he's doing all right with Pat Phelan looking after him. "Or Saint Pat as they call him in our house," he says, adding that Pat actually does his head in. Billy tells him just to be there for Jason.

Alex comes into the cafe, fed up because his friend couldn't go the cinema as they'd arranged. Roy asks if he'd like to join him later for 'an activity'.

Over at the Platt's house, Gail is getting stressed out about getting everything ready for Carla's visit for the pamper party. Sarah however, is getting even more stressed and doesn't feel she needs to be there and says she's going out. Gail tries to stop her, just as Bethany starts to carry a tray of drinks across the room, and of course the whole lot goes on the floor. Gail flings her tea towel across the room in anger, just as Carla steps through the door, and it lands on her face! "Hi," says Carla, removing the towel, and there's an embarrassed silence.

Nick is in the pub, talking to Steve about his stag do. Just then he gets another phone call, but again doesn't answer it. David comes in and joins them, and Steve tells him he's going to help with the stag do. Nick tells the two of them to just get on with it, and walks away, making a phone call to his doctor.

Back at the Platt's, the pamper party is underway, with Carla sitting with her feet in a foot-spa, and Gail is having her eyebrows plucked by Bethany, as Kylie mops the carpet. Sarah is cuddling the baby, and Gail suggests that she takes him into the annex. Sarah is adamant though, that she doesn't want to. As Carla goes into the kitchen to get another drink, she tells Sarah that baby Harry is gorgeous. Sarah says she doesn't think the house is good for him, she doesn't think he's very well. Carla says if she's worried she should take his temperature. Kylie comes over and touches his head. "He's fine," she says, and she and Carla go back into the living room.

Over in the factory, Jenny is making tea and sharing a joke with Johnny, much to Sally's disgust and annoyance. She tells Sean she doesn't know how Jenny has the nerve to show her face. Just then Jenny comes over with a tray of mugs asking if they fancy a brew. Sean is just about to take one when Sally declines, so he drops his hand and shakes his head.

Tim comes into the factory then, with Jack who is now dressed up as a pirate. He's come to tell Sally he's booked them a mini holiday. Sean says if it's somewhere that involves a foreign phrase book and a flight path, he doesn't want to know. Sally suddenly is very interested. "Does it?" she asks. He won't tell her, it's a surprise, but it's going to be dead romantic. She asks if he's done it to try and get round her. "Yes, is it working?" he asks. Then Johnny comes out of his office so Tim says they'll talk later.

Johnny walks over to Jenny and tells her the workers are a tough crowd, but as the saying goes, if she wants to play in the river she'd best make friends with the crocodiles. She sighs and says it's not for want of trying. He tells her it's their problem, she's lovely. She looks surprised and pleased to hear this.

Over in the pub, Jason tells Eileen that she's got a good one in Pat. Pat tells her to listen to her son. Just then Gemma walks in, all dressed up to the nines, for her drink with Jason. She looks somewhat awkward when he tells her to sit down with Pat and Eileen while he fetches her a drink.

While Jason is at the bar, Todd comes in and goes over to Billy who is also at the bar. He asks if Billy is worried about that 'bin friend' of his. Billy snaps at him he's like a dog with a bone, but no, he's not worried. Just then Sean and Beth come in, and join them.

Back at the pamper party, Sarah is out in the kitchen, still holding the baby. She puts the kettle on to boil and then holds the thermometer in the hot steam, then she shows it to everyone, saying that Harry isn't well, he's got a temperature. Then she heads for the door, saying she wants to take him to hospital – now! As everyone starts jumping up and heading for the door, Kylie looks very suspicious.

Alex is up in the flat with Roy, they're doing a large jigsaw puzzle of a locomotive while Cathy makes tea. It's not long however, till Alex gets bored and asks if Roy has any games for the Playstation.

In the Rovers, Gemma is still sitting with Jason, Eileen, Pat and Todd and looking very uncomfortable, and eventually she decides to leave. When she's gone, Eileen asks Jason if he's had any thoughts about Tony's flat. Jason says he has, thanks to Pat.

Sarah and the family are at the hospital with baby Harry. The doctor can't find anything wrong, his temperature is fine, and the urine sample was clear, he's fine to go home. Sarah isn't happy to hear this, she insists that he's ill, he can't go home, they have to stay at the hospital.

Carla arrives back home to Nick, and snuggles up to him on the sofa.

As the family all start to walk out of the hospital, Kylie stops Sarah and asks what is going on, she knows that Harry never had a temperature. Sarah tells here that they can't be in that place where 'he' is. Kylie tells her that Callum is dead and can't hurt her. "Oh yes he can, and he will, if I don't get away from him," says Sarah. Kylie looks her in the eyes. "You have to deal with this," she says, "you have to." Sarah just shakes her head and walks away.

Friday 13 May

Friday the 13th?

Is it bad luck for Nick? His phone rings and the display says "Consultant" so he turns it off. Carla asks who called but he won't say. Instead he changes the subject to her hen do.

Beth wants Sinead to come out tonight but Sinead refuses. She's got a date with Chesney - they're going to chat face-to-face online, eat the same meal from a Nigella recipe together. . . Beth doesn't want to know any more fearing they're going to get "mucky." Craig seems very moody and he says it's because he's got another date with Caitlin. Sinead suggests he do something different with her but Craig says he's saving his money for paints.

Sarah wants to go out but Gail and Kylie are both involved with the hen do - Kylie because she's doing the hens' nails and Gail because Carla apparently wants her there. Sarah will just have to stay back and look after Harry.

In the factory, Sean questions Sally about Tim's cryptic promise to take her away. He won't say where and she has to guess. Carla says the hen do is going to be very sedate. Kate wonders if Tim was on drugs when he wrote the clues, but then Jenny guesses - Blackpool! Of course, all the clues fit. Sally is not a happy bunny. She was guessing places that started with "Puerto . .." She calls Tim and leaves a snippy message on his voicemail.

Roy's swotting up on a computer game that Alex plays and he's wrestling with the controller and the written instructions.

Craig chats to Bethany in the cafe. He's written a poem for Caitlin and Bethany promises not to laugh. It's a really bad poem. Bethany tells him it seems a bit desperate.

Sally's still not happy. "Well, you can stick it up your Kiss Me Quick hat - I'm not going!" she says down the phone, before ripping up all the holiday inspiration postcards that were displayed round her workstation. She rips up the pictures of Blackpool and calls, "Cleaner!" Jenny appears coldly furious. Sally won't even say her name.

Gail and Kylie have tea in the cafe. Gail has a hip flask, she's had a disco nap and she's ready for action. She's quite nasty, saying she's only in the cafe because where else would she go to get some stodge to line her stomach.

In the pub, Kirky is revving himself up for the stag do. Carla comes in expecting to see all her hens but they're not there. A moment later they come into the bar, all dressed in black and wearing jet black wigs.

In a club somewhere this side of the Pennines. the hens are gathered, including Cathy. The DJ makes the mistake of taking a break and suddenly Kate and Carla are on the decks.

In the pub, Nick's suddenly got very angry at Steve's slow service. He stomps out into the Rovers' yard with David and tells him he lied about getting the all-clear from the consultant.

"It's raining men!" sing the hens. Gail's annoyed - she thinks she and Carla have become close and she should be up there with Carla, not Kate. Of course Kate is Carla's sister but that doesn't sway Gail. She goes up to the booth and struggles with Kate, trying to get the microphone. Kate is knocked to the floor in the struggle and a gleeful Gail dances, punches the air and shouts "Give me a C, give me an A, give me an R . . ." Sally (I'm loving her uppityness at the moment) confides to Cathy that she's worried about being filmed on a Smartphone. The club staff try to get the hens out of the booth before they do any damage, but Gail's having none of that.

Nick tells David that no matter what happens he's going to lose Carla. He blames David for all this, because David was driving. David thinks the blame should be placed earlier. "If you hadn't slept with my wife. . ." Nick doesn't want Carla to become the victim of his anger.

Craig, carrying a red rose, meets Caitlin but she tells him straight away that she has something to say. She tells him she'd going away to Dundee for university.

Two police officers arrive in the club and ask which of the hens is Carla Connor. She admits to this but then the hens start: "I'm Carla Connor." "No, I'm Carla Connor . . ." Gail suddenly realises these aren't real police officers (she's wrong), they're male strippers. She tries to get their clothes off. Oh, she is so very wrong.

Roy struggles with the games controller. Sinead arrives to borrow some rosemary and offers to give him a crash course.

Johnny finds Jenny weeping behind a rack of clothing. She's looking at some of the ripped pictures of Blackpool and tells Johnny that's where her father died. The last time she was there was to identify her father's body.

David tells Nick he must talk to Carla. Robert comes out to check everything's OK. It isn't. Nick says they have to cancel the wedding.

Margaret Carr

Welcome to another update. The weather has been pretty nice recently and my summer occupation of walking the dogs my wife is boarding has recommenced. In residence at the moment are a pair of "Cockerpoos" who are wonderfully well behaved dogs, the return when called and one or other sits close to my wife in the evenings. One has a permanent smile, the other one seems more serious. And they are annoying me for their morning walk at the moment - which will be a bit later this morning.

This is episode 8903; it was written by the very wonderful Jonathan Harvey and it was directed by David Kester. Copyright remains the property of ITV Studios to whom many thanks. We do know we are running behind in publishing these and I hope we can catch up a little.

Events open in the yard at the Rovers where Nick is with David and Robert (who has re-appeared with a mysteriously darker skin tone; I suspect he has been away in the sun). Nick is repeating himself - after some thought he has decided he cannot marry Carla as it would not be fair to her. David is sure that Carla will understand that Nick's brain damage has return and will be grateful for the cancellation. Robert cannot believe what he is hearing. David explains that as the brain damage never went away Nick is not thinking straight! Nick reveals that it is worse under stress and marrying Carla is causing stress - he needs to end the stress. He will not have Carla stand by him out of some misguided loyalty. So he is out!

In the Rovers bar Luke, Kirk and Dev are singing along to the Jukebox and Tim is on the phone. He tells Aidan and Steve that the hens have all been arrested. They reckon Sally is winding him up but Aidan says that Sally is not the wind up sort and they all agree with him. So they start believing the hens have been arrested. Johnny reckons that sounds like his definition of a good night out! There is a brief interchange between Jenny and Johnny - yes the 2 Js are going to get it on. Steve is talking to Michelle's voicemail. Kirk is getting the gen from Beth. Tim tells Nick and David that their Mum has been arrested. Including Kylie after Gail hit a copper. Steve will line up some cabs but Tim is going nowhere until he has finished his pint.

At the back of Victoria Court there is a huge building site (in the back of a shot) with the modern plastic sheeting screening what is being developed - so some form of major new set is being built - anyone know what is coming? Walking away from Victoria Court are Craig and Caitlin - the former knows where Scotland is! Caitlin is saying these things don't work out. She thinks it is for the best. Returns his rose, gives him a peck on the cheek and says "See you Craig" (she will soon learn that it is "See ya Jimmie" when she moves north. And Craig has been dumped from a huge height by the dumpstress.

Tracy wants to know what the gossip is from Robert who tells her Nick's brain damage has resurfaced - she is disappointed that the news is not new news or juicy. Ah says Robert but as a result Nick wants to cancel the wedding. Now that gets Tracy's attention - although she hopes they will still move to Devon. Carla has ruined everything for them again. She reckons that Nick will want to buy the Bistro back but Robert says no chance. And Robert points out that even Carla does not know yet.

Roy and Alex are playing a computer game which Roy loses. He wants to do a jigsaw, Alex doesn't - he does not have the patience. Roy suggests chess.

Sinead's mobile rings. It is Chesney and she tells him the casserole is ready - except that he is still abroad and is going to a beach party. And the line dies. She goes to open the wine and Craig returns looking downcast. Craig asks why he took relationship advice from someone whose partner is not even in the country?

Along at the cop shop most of the hens are sobering up. All have been released without charge apart from Carla.

As I remarked last week Stuart Blackburn remains the credited Producer for this episode - but we must be close to the point at which this changes.

See you next week.

Monday 16 May

Written by Damon Rochefort directed by John Anderson

Tim comes downstairs with his packed rucksack to find Sophie in the kitchen with Sally. Tim tells Sally he's ready to head off to Blackpool, the holiday he booked for the two of them but Sally declined to go with him. He's going anyway though Sally doesn't believe he'll actually leave. Sophie is likely there just to see the look on Sally's face when she sees the door close behind him. Because she knows something Sally doesn't but soon will when the doorbell rings. Tim is going to Blackpool with Kevin and little Jack who has been wearing that pirate costume for days!

Carla strides down the road past them trying to get Nick on the phone and she blanks Sally. After Tim and Kevin leave, Izzy and Sean rock up and wonder where the little party is going. Sally lies that Tim is helping Kevin look at some cars and they're taking Jack to a party after. Sophie raises an eyebrow at her mother. Sally gets away and pulls Sophie to the side. Sophie asks why Sally lied and is told that the factory workers would never let her hear the end of it if they knew Tim had chosen to go to Blackpool with Kevin instead of her. This virtually guarantees that they'll all know before the end of the episode.

Carla heads to Platt Towers and leans on the doorbell. David answers angrily and insists that Nick isn't there and hasn't stayed the night. He gives her a hard time for over-buzzing the bell since he's got a baby trying to sleep. Then cancels that out by slamming the door hard. Inside, of course, is Nick who has indeed spent the night on the impossibly small sofa. Nick doesn't know what to do. David, the odd choice for Voice of Reason in this episode, advises his brother to speak to the consultant and then speak to Carla.

Aidan is teasing Johnny about Jenny though Kate isn't so sure a day out with a woman that was accused of kidnapping a child is such a good thing. Johnny insists he's just doing a good deed. Carla comes round the corner heading away from the factory saying she has stuff to do. Johnny worries that he can't leave the factory if Carla will be gone but Aidan reckons they'll be fine without him for the day. Johnny insists they not say anything about where he's going. They'll think he's playing favourites and he'll never hear the end of it. Something tells me the news will get out one way or another.

Jenny talks to Rita about her father's demons. She wonders if she inherited them. Rita tells her that Alan Bradley wouldn't get help for whatever ailed him, not like she did and she's the stronger for asking for help. Rita thinks if it helps to see where her dad died, then she should. Jenny doesn't actually know the spot but Rita does and can at least help her on that score. Jenny tells her they're taking the train. Rita teases her about the romantic journey. Just friends. Yes.

Sophie tells Tyrone and Luke will slip and tell the factory workers about Tim and Kevin in Blackpool because of Sally's fears. Freddie approaches, wondering if the garage works on motorcycles only he needs some parts. They point him in the direction of a nearby garage. Sophie notices Jenny come out of the Kabin. The two women exchange glances then Sophie turns to chivvy the mechanics back to work while Jenny meets Johnny coming out the factory door. They exchange small talk about Blackpool and head over to get a cab.

Carla is worried sick and wonders if Nick has found out about Robert. Michelle reckons if he had, she'd have heard about it. Carla tells her she did speak to David but he's shifty as always and won't talk to Gail unless it's a last resort. She'd make things worse. Michelle thinks she should pressure David, maybe use the softly, softly approach. "Or I could just beat it out of the devious little get" is Carla's alternative.

Sean is playing passive aggressive about the lost holiday that he and Billy didn't get to go on, loading sarcasm and guilt aplenty and Billy gets highly annoyed, as you would. Billy snaps at Sean and leaves. Sean realizes he's probably gone too far but Eva wonders why Billy is so un-Billy-like. Erica is working at the pub and tells them she's doing a favour for Michelle who's helping Carla in a crisis. Tyrone and Luke come in. Tyrone has good news, he's got his cab license. They see Freddie at the bar and exchange a few words. Sally, Izzy and Beth are in a booth talking about Gary's court case and the hotpot, accompanied by Sally's holier-than-thou remarks about both subjects. Tyrone tells them about his cab license and then spills the beans about Kevin's day out in Blackpool with Tim. Beth and Izzy are thrilled at the gossip.

In the Salon, David sees a client out the door. Carla comes in and grabs him by the chest and shoves him against the wall, desperate to get answers. She backs down and begs for information, loading on the guilt and tears. It works. He tells her Nick is at a consultant appointment because he thinks his brain injury symptoms have returned. After the break, he tells her the name and location of the clinic. She calls and leaves a message for Nick, saying she's on her way.

In the factory, everyone knows about Blackpool and Sally is suffering the teasing and insults. Everyone is making fun about Tim and Kevin being a proper couple, a modern family complete with a little boy. Nothing Sally says is going to get them to ease up. Aidan comes out and scolds them for gassing but even he has a chuckle. Beth scores a point when she tells Sally that Kirk would be devastated if she'd thrown a nice seaside holiday with a hotel back at him. Sally retreats to the bathroom.

In Blackpool, the threesome are walking along the beach boardwalk. Tim refuses to take a call from Sally and then takes a selfie of all three to post online to rub it in Sally's face.

In the flower shop, Sean is grousing to Todd about the holiday. Todd noticed that Billy was upset earlier. Sean wonders if Billy is seeing someone else, due to secret phone calls. Todd doesn't think that's what the problem is and notes that a lot of Billy's business is confidential. He points out that Billy is an honest man and tries to reassure Sean.

Back to Blackpool, Jenny and Johnny are standing across from the Strand Hotel on the promenade, the more or less exact location where Alan Bradley was hit by the tram. They are sipping coffees and talking about what happened. She says she only really found out about a lot of what was going on with her dad until much later on. Johnny asks if she wants to say any particular words but she's happy enough to be there, remembering. She tells Johnny he's been very kind. Now she's ready to make new memories. He thinks they should go for a drink.

Carla comes into the waiting room to find Nick who has got her message and knows David has told her all about it. She wants to know everything and why he hadn't told her before. He says that everything could change once he has the results. She demands, gently, to know the whole story. From the start.

Sally is still coming under fire about Blackpool. Izzy takes a text from her child minder to say that the creche will be closed tomorrow which is the day Gary's in court. She'll have nobody to mind Jake. Sean offers to keep him and when Sally questions his suitability, reminds them all that he does have a son, he's off tomorrow and happy to help. Izzy is grateful. They give Sally some more grief about Kevin and Tim causing her to insist that Tim is a fully heterosexual male. That doesn't help matters and she's further annoyed when Beth shows her the selfie they took. They give her a hard time for treating Tim so badly. Sally tells Aidan she's leaving early and will be in late tomorrow. She gets all 80s rock ballad on them by telling them all she's had an emergency of the heart!

Rita greets Sophie outside the Kabin/garage.

Todd sees Billy and warns him that Sean is very upset about the holiday. There's more to it than just that, and he should talk to Sean. We see the raggedy man lurking around the corner.

Sophie sees Sally coming out of the factory and runs over to invite her for a drink but Sally's got other things on her mind. She's going to Blackpool to save her marriage.

As Carla and Nick wait to see the consultant he admits what's really concerning him. He tells Carla that he once hit Leanne and he's worried he's going to hurt her too. But Carla's not scared of Nick and makes it clear she's staying firmly put. A relieved Nick declares his love for Carla.

In Blackpool Tim, Jack and Kevin are sitting in a cafe while Tim pours his heart out to Kev about Sally. He's really hurt she didn't want to go on this trip. Since she got elected, he tells Kev, Sally is all art galleries and canapes whereas he's just kebabs and karaoke. But Kev tells him that opposites attract and says the two of them are more suited to each other than Tim realises.

Meanwhile back in Weatherfield Sally's packed a bag. She's seen the light about what a cow she's been (her words) and she's off to Blackpool to get her man. She gets into Tim's van, taking Sophie along for the ride.

Izzy and Gary are going along the street and talking about Sean looking after Jake. There's no way Gary wants his mum having him after the things she's said. Izzy thanks Gary for everything.

Carla and Nick are talking to the consultant who has his brain scans up on a screen. He says it's good news as he can't see any physical signs of a worsening in his condition. He advises him to "chillax" and avoid any stressful situations but otherwise tells Nick he has nothing to worry about. Judging by the expression on Nick's face that will be easier said than done.

In the Rovers Sean's serving Erica and talking to her about Billy while Kylie's having a drink with Freddy. The young man who's been hanging around Billy comes in and causes a fracas over ordering a pint. Anna is next to come in. As Sean's serving her he gets a text and says it's from Gary about the arrangements for Jake. "What arrangements?" asks Anna, trying to sound casual. Sean explains he and Billy are looking after Jake while Gary and Izzy are at court.

We return to Blackpool where Johnny and Jenny are enjoying an ice cream as they walk along discussing their past. Johnny tells Jenny he has a lot of respect for the way she's managed to get her life back together.

In a nearby cafe Jack, Kev and Tim are having lunch but Jack doesn't seem keen to eat so Tim and Kev start playing a game with him. Outside, Sally and Sophie are walking along. They draw level with the cafe and look through the window at the very moment Tim is pretending to feed Kevin. Tim waves awkwardly and Sally goes marching in.

Johnny and Jenny are still walking and talking, enjoying their day out together.

In the cafe Sally seems to have forgotten her resolve to make things up with Tim. She's most put out to discover he's having a good time when she was expecting him to be heartbroken and missing her. Suddenly Sophie realises that Jack is nowhere to be seen.

Outside Jack is running along the pavement where he's spotted by Jenny. She calls out to him but he doesn't hear. He's heading towards the road. Kevin and the others come out of the cafe just in time to see Jack running in front of a tram and Jenny diving after him.

Kevin arrives on the scene to find that apart from Jenny twisting her ankle, no harm has been done. As the others join them Sophie asks what Jenny's doing there. Johnny puts her straight and tells her she should be grateful to Jenny for saving her brother's life.

Carla and Nick are back at home. He seems determined to believe the worst about his condition whereas Carla is doing her best to be upbeat. She has no intention of calling off the wedding and reminds him of the traditional vows – 'in sickness and in health'.

Everyone's arrived back on the street from their trips to Blackpool. Kevin sees Jenny and asks after her twisted ankle. He thanks her for saving Jack's life.

Anna sees Gary and asks if she can go with him to court tomorrow. But he tells her she's made it quite clear where she stands and he doesn't want her there. She asks if she can at least look after Jake but Gary says it's all sorted and they can do things without her help.

In the Rovers Freddy's playing darts with Kylie. He'd been hoping to bump into Audrey but apparently she's had the day off. We see Billy's dubious acquaintance looking at Erica's handbag which is lying on the barstool next to him. Over at one of the tables Jenny and Johnny are having a drink with Rita. Seeing that Sean is gossiping about them Rita comments that if he knew what Jenny had done today he'd change his tune. Jenny says she doesn't want people making a fuss but she looks secretly rather pleased.

Billy comes in just as Erica spots the young man opening her bag. He tries to deny it but Gary grabs in an arm lock. Billy jumps in and says he knows the man and he and Gary take him outside. Billy tells Gary he can handle it from here and the man confirms they know each other.

On the other side of the street Sally comes out of the house with Tim and Sophie. She's gone back to apologising for her behaviour and admits she's been a bully and a nag. Tim promises to forgive her in return for a pint. Sally promises that from now on she'll put him first every time. "Baby steps, eh?" suggests Tim. The three of them walk off up the street, arm in arm.

Billy is arguing with the young man outside the Rovers. He's refusing to give him any more money and says he wants to get him into a proper programme of support. The man says he's been there and it doesn't work. "Let me help you Lee, come and stay with me at the rectory," begs Billy just as Sean comes out. Lee tells Billy he's not much help to him at all and storms off. Sean wants to know what's going on but all Billy will tell him is that Lee's a man who needs his help. A tearful Billy begs Sean not to hate him and promises to call him later.

In the Rovers Tim suggests to Sally she should go over and speak to Jenny but that's a step too far for her. Sophie, on the other hand, has no such qualms and goes over to thank Jenny. Shown up by her daughter Sally has no choice but to join her. She makes it clear she hasn't forgiven Jenny for what happened previously but says she was very brave and asks if they can start again. Jenny smiles and says she'd like that. They all join each other for a drink. Over by the bar Sean wants to know why everyone is suddenly Jenny's best mate so Johnny fills everyone in on the story and orders a bottle of bubbly to help them celebrate. Carla arrives at that moment and Johnny if she can borrow him for a quick chat.

In the back yard of the Rovers Carla is confiding in Johnny about Nick's problems. She tells her father she loves Nick but before she can say more Jenny joins them. Carla makes to leave but instead Johnny asks Jenny to give him five minutes with Carla. She says of course but before she goes, thanks Johnny for their day together and kisses him on the cheek. Carla observes that someone has put the snap back into Johnny's celery. He swiftly changes the subject back to Nick. Carla tells Johnny that the consultant said Nick has to avoid stress at all costs which is why it would be a disaster if he ever found out about her and Robert. Johnny asks who else knows. "Just Michelle," replies Carla, shifting awkwardly in her seat. Johnny says as long as Robert keeps his mouth shut she'll be alright and he can't see him spilling the beans as Tracy would skin him alive. Johnny asks if there's anything else Carla's worried about. She insists she's fine and she'll see him tomorrow but Johnny doesn't look convinced.

Wednesday 18 May

It's the day of Gary's court case. He tells Izzy she doesn't have to come to court, but she insists that she's coming. He helping her get Jake dressed, and when he's not looking she's wincing with pain.

Kylie sees Kevin working on a car, he's snowed under with work. Kylie asks if he's taking on any extra staff, but Kevin says he's too busy to interview anyone. Kylie then suggests that Freddie might like to come and work there. Kevin, however, doesn't think it's a good idea at all.

Fiz, Jenny and Sinead arrive outside the factory just as Johnny and Kate come along. Jenny flirts a little with Johnny and Kate looks at him knowingly. "What?" he asks her. "You know what," she grins.

Izzy is on the phone to her drug dealer friend, asking for a little more weed. She needs it so that she can look strong in court, show everyone she's coping. He's obviously not keen to sell her any, but she begs and pleads until he gave her the name of someone else.

Sean and Billy are in the Kabin talking to Rita. Sean is wittering on about making the place child proof, as he's looking after Jake for the day. As Sean leaves the shop, Billy gets a phone call. "No, Lee, I don't care what the question is, that's the answer!" he says, passing Todd who is coming in as he goes out. Todd wonders what has made him so tetchy, and remarks to Rita that if he hadn't just seen Sean he would have thought it was him that Billy was talking to. "No," says Rita, "I think the name was Lee."

It's coffee time in the factory, and Fiz and Sinead are talking about Jenny's act of bravery, much to Sally's irritation and annoyance. "Do you have to go on about it all day?" she snaps. Just then Johnny appears in the doorway of his office, asking why they're not working. Sinead reminds him that they still have 4 minutes left of their break. Kate tells them all that Johnny is cranky because he just spilled coffee on his keyboard, so Jenny rushes forward with a cloth and goes in to mop it up. He follows her into the office and they flirt a bit more.

Gary is outside in the Street, sitting on a bench with Jake, who is opening a package. Inside is a Superman outfit, and Jake laughs with delight as Gary puts the cloak on him.

Rita has gone over to the garage, asking Kevin if he can look at her car, she thinks a bulb has gone. He says he'll look at it when he's finished the one he's working on, and she remarks that she thought he was getting more staff. "Oh don't you start," he says, "I've had Kylie her trying to foist her pet pensioner on me," he says. "Oh, a pensioner," says Rita, sarcastically, "dead wood!" Kevin then tries to back track, saying he'll be out of touch. "And he won't be able to work with his gnarled, arthritic hands," mocks Rita, until Kevin says he'll stop digging!

Gary is dropping Jake off with Sean, as Billy is leaving. Sean asks if he's off to see his parishioner, the one that's more important that his boyfriend and their young guest? "You know I am," says Billy, adding that he'll be as quick as he can. Gary gives Jake a kiss and Sean takes him inside.

Izzy is in the cafe when Anna comes in with Gary's suit that she's picked up from the dry cleaners. Roy asks her if he's going to let her attend, but Anna thinks he won't. She turns and asks Izzy if Gary has said anything to her, but he hasn't. "You know what he's like," she says. Anna goes to hang the suit up and asks Izzy to tell Gary that it is there.

Jenny is in the office asking Johnny what kind of sandwich he wants from the cafe. Kate comes in as she's leaving, and tells her dad that the workers are talking about the way he and Jenny are behaving. He scoffs and says that even if he were eyeing her up, and he isn't, it would be none of their business.

Izzy is sitting by the kerb beside a busy road, a tall, bald man comes along and tells her they have to go somewhere else. He suggests her place. She says no at first, but then he says she won't get the drugs, so she finally agrees.

A reporter from the Gazette arrives at the factory to see Jenny. She's horrified, she says she doesn't want to be in the papers. "You have before though, Jenny," he says, adding that he knows she's had a few tough years, he Googled her. Johnny suggests they go into the office, and as Jenny passes him, looking worried, he quietly tells her that it's better to talk to him than have him write what he likes.

Kylie is in the cafe, buying a hot meal to take to Freddie, when Kevin comes in. She says she'll tell him that the meanie mechanic at the garage is ageist. Kevin says she can tell him to come and talk to him, Kylie is delighted and goes off to get the bus. Gary comes in then, looking for his suit. Anna fetches it from out the back and explains that she had it dry cleaned for him. He's annoyed that she didn't take it back to the flat, so he has had to come to the cafe and talk to her. He grabs the suit and storms off.

Izzy and the drug dealer have arrived back at Izzy's house. He pulls a little package out of his pocket and says he has this special product that targets pain. Just then there's a knock at the door and the police burst in. The drug dealer runs out of the back door, chased by one officer, while the other tells Izzy to stay there. "You're being detained for a drug search!"

Back in Johnny's office, the reporter puts a little recording device down on the table and starts to ask Jenny some questions. She says she really doesn't want to make a song and dance about it and asks if he's going to drag up her past. He says it's a moving story – a woman suffers bereavement, has mental health issues, and then saves a life. "You have done your research," she says, and asks how much background he's planning to put in. "What ever's relevant," he says. Jenny looks uncomfortable, until Johnny leans forward and suggests giving an employer's perspective. He says he wasn't surprised, he's seen her generosity in lots of small ways. Jenny looks across the office smiles at him gratefully.

Back at Izzy's, the police officer won't let her answer her phone, and when she says she has to be somewhere, he tells her yes – the police station. The car is apparently outside, but again Izzy says she has to get to court. "You should have thought about that before you let a drug dealer into your house," says the policeman.

A very smart suited and booted Gary is in the Street looking for Izzy. He stops to ask Todd and they talk for a few moments, then Todd looks round and sees Billy's friend helping himself out of the till. He shouts and the boy runs out past them both and bumps straight into Billy. Both look shocked and the boy darts round him and runs off. Gary goes off to get a taxi, and Todd pulls out his phone to call the police. "Don't," says Billy, "please don't."

Johnny steps out of the office and tells the workers the reporter wants a photo and he thinks they should all be in it. Sally is very scathing, until Johnny tells her that the reporter knows Jenny's history and no matter what Sally thinks, Jenny did a very heroic thing.

Billy is in the florist shop, trying to dissuade Todd from calling the police. Eventually, as Todd starts to dial, he tells him that the boy is his brother.

Back at Izzy's, they're waiting for transport that will take her chair to the police station. Izzy is cross and says she's being treated like a criminal and she's done nothing wrong. Her phone rings again and she goes to answer it, only to have the policeman snatch it out of her hand. "I warned you," he says, "I'm taking this as evidence." Then Izzy reaches for the box of her prescribed medication. He asks what she's doing. "I'm taking my painkillers," she says. He takes the box from her and says they'll take them to the station and see what the nurse says she can have. (Can he really do this?) Izzy rolls her chair forward and tries to grab the box back, and in doing so runs over the policeman's foot. He shouts, and then tells her he's arresting her for assaulting a police officer!

Thursday 19 May

Not quite sure why but there was an extra episode this week. And next week Corrie is displaced because of BGT and so all of the big stories will explode as they various strands unwind. So I will be here tomorrow and then again on Thursday next week.

This is episode 8907 and it was written by Julie Jones. The director was John Anderson. The copyright remains the property of ITV Studios and we offer them the usual thanks. Once again I should also thank ITV Hub for being there.

We open this evening with Gary at the cab office, in a suit, unable to get a response from Izzy. Tim is entirely sure that Gary will no get sent down - he is small fry and there are real villains out there. Tim says if he was sent down he would spend his time getting a GCSE in woodwork or something useful.

At the police station Izzy is apologising about the events and the policeman is off to A&E to sort his foot out (frankly in my opinion he should be wearing suitable footwear).

The reporter is taking photos of the factory staff except Sally (who wants nothing to do with it). Jenny is front and centre. Fiz accuses Sally of being jealous. Sinead tells her how models should stand to show the best of themselves. The reporter snaps away and confirms it will be in the paper tomorrow. Johnny sees the reporter out and Sal sounds off saying that she was surprised Jimmy was in the picture - and that Jenny has Johnny exactly where she wants him. Johnny hears this and tells Sal she has a right nasty tongue in her head - it could get her into serious trouble. In a cutaway shot Jenny turns on her smile as she hears this! Which she then turns on Sal!

Sean is having a haircut at and by Audrey. In the corner 'Chelle having her nails done confirms she had a "Rachel" (off Friends) in the nineties. Sean calls her predictably glam and looking a million dollars. 'Chelle reckons it cost her a million dollars in upkeep! Sean is looking after Jake who is sitting quietly in the other chair. Freddie pops in to say he is off to see Kev at the garage about a job. They all wish him good luck. Sean calls Audrey flirty.

In the back of Preston's Petals, Billie is telling Todd about his troubles listening to other people's troubles. Todd wants to hear all the details. Lee is Billie's brother. Billie is reluctant but slowly he explains that Lee is struggling. A recently jailbird, heroin addict and Billie abandoned him instead of looking after him. Their Mum was long gone and Dad was worse than useless - alcoholic. Billie had argued with his Dad over his sexuality and so Billie walked out on the family. Lee was 16 when their father's liver failed and Billie tried but his father threw him out and Lee never knew. Once their father had died Lee went off the rails. He might be a good vicar but he cannot help his own flesh and blood.

Tim seems to have mastered the switch and Gary is pacing relentlessly. Gary has to go with or without Izzy. Tim spends some time telling Gary about the nervous Mr Cowley who watches the speedo and whacks the driver if he exceeds 20 with a rolled up Gazette. Anna arrives to tell Gary he should be at court. Anna has a go at Izzy for not being there - Tim says Gary has called repeatedly. Anna insists on going with him to court. And the taxi is waiting outside.

Inside the police station PC Wendy Mills and PC Tania Davies are asking Izzy about her mobility as they plan to do a strip search. So she has to move to another chair and remove her clothes. She is in pain but only has to remove one item of clothing at a time to preserve her dignity. Izzy starts crying.

At the factory the girls are on tea break whilst Jenny mops the other side of a wall - but she can hear what they are saying as they talk about her and Johnny. Sinead reckons it is like "Love Actually" when Hugh Grant and Martine McCutcheon meet for the first time. Sally remarks that if she was not with Tim then she could see herself with Hugh Grant! Sinead asks Kate what Johnny's last girlfriend was like. Kate did not like her - one minute she was all over him like a rash and then the next she would not even answer the phone. Classic treat 'em mean , keep 'em keen observes Sally. Apparently it worked on Johnny says Kate.

Izzy having dressed again has proven she has nothing on her - so they take the wheelchair apart. And inevitably find the packet she had hidden earlier.

After the break Billie admits he has been giving money to Lee to waste on drugs. Billie has taken advice - unless Lee wants to clean up his act the rehab places will not help. Todd says that Lee will eventually forgive him.

Audrey and Kylie are talking hairdressing giving customers whiplash! Freddie arrives bearing a huge bunch of flowers for Kylie as he has got the job. The questions were tricky - but Freddie has been to Play School and knew the answers. Audrey offers to buy Freddie a drink to celebrate. Freddie says he has to go and remind himself of how to do things so has to go. Audrey is disappointed. Kylie says she fancies him - but Audrey says she is too old to fancy anyone. Kylie is not so sure. Kylie responds that Gail believes she has always been a flighty piece! Audrey assures her that she and Freddie are best off being friends. If she needs a companion she will buy a dog. Neither of them believe this rubbish.

In a police interview room the WPCs are interviewing Izzy. Assaulting an officer, caught in possession - not a good day. They remind her she received a caution on her last visit. They ask about Marc Randall the dealer. She knows nothing. She apologises for the assault but not for the cannabis. She thinks the law is wrong on possession of cannabis - it helps her manage her pain. The cannabis was for personal use. One of the officers tell her that kids get targeted by the Randalls of this world and then move them onto hard drugs. Then violence, misery and crime follow. Izzy is part of the same world. Izzy argues for medical usage of cannabis and she would not need a dealer.

The girls are leaving the factory and they invite Jenny to join them at the Rovers. She will catch up shortly as she has not finished cleaning. They go and Johnny asks if she is all right. She apologises that he got dragged into everything. She tells him people have been gossiping about them. He does not care what people think. She says she put him in an impossible position as she took advantage of his good nature. She carries on that it was unprofessional of her - so as of now it is back to a purely work basis. He tells her they are mates. She says that he is her boss. They cannot be mates. All through her eyes are smiling as her plan comes together.

In the bistro Billie apologises to Todd for bending his ear. Billie asks Todd to keep it to himself. Todd sees it as top gossip which needs spreading around. But Todd is joking and will keep it quiet. Todd reckons that Sean will sense it however. And he will apply the thumbscrews. Billie admits Sean is feeling neglected. Todd confirms that Sean thinks Billie is cheating on him. Todd explains that Billie's odd behaviour has sparked Sean's imagination into running riot. Todd tells Billie he has to pay Sean more attention and all will be well. Billie observes that there is good in Todd after all. Todd tells Billie not to wreck his bad-ass reputation.

Tim thinks Jenny should be awarded a medal for diving in front of a tram. Sally is not supportive. After a real flight of fancy Tim admits he is joking.

Anna and Gary return from court and she is going to make him a nice tea. He is not hungry. She tells him to take a deep breath of free air. He has been given a suspended sentence. Tim observes that he was right over Gary not being locked up. Anna badmouths Izzy for not turning up in court.

In the Rovers little Miss Mischief (Jenny) is admitting she is grateful for the work at Underworld but she feels like her brain is shriveling up. And she admits that it is not glamorous behind the scenes on cruise ships. Sinead likes the idea of a man in a uniform (and why has Chesney not returned?). Johnny comes in and offers a drink to Fiz, Sinead and Jenny but the latter does not accept. He turns to order and little Miss Mischief realises that he is on the hook - she has her man! Eyes dip and a slight smile around the lips!

Gary collects Jake from Sean and asks after Izzy. Sean does not know. Sean is happy about Gary's sentence.

In the Rovers LMM (Jenny) is by the juke box when Johnny comes out of the gents. She hopes he did not think she was being nasty before in the factory. He knows the factory rabble had given her a rough ride. But she is making friends with them now and she does not want to wind them up - he has worked it out. But if she does need anything she should come to him. But she is to keep it to herself as he does not want a queue outside the office door. She says there is one thing perhaps? Well she would really like to be a machinist. She has done some sewing - made curtains and done alterations. And she has a lot to learn. He must have contacts at other factories - perhaps he could put in a word for her? Johnny is sure he can find a way at Underworld. He knows she is a good grafter. He will arrange to get her trained up. He leaves her and they both have huge grins on their faces. But Jenny has a real cat got the cream look as the camera lingers on her.

At the police station Isobel Armstrong is formally charged with assaulting PC Daniel Birch and causing actual bodily harm; then she is charged with possession of four grams of cannabis - controlled drug class B. She protests to little effect.

Roll credits.

This was a Sally Matthews (Jenny Bradley) episode. Either there is something going on or someone has taken a real shine to her. No denying that it is a pleasure to see her back on the Street - I think I said that last time. However last time she ended up going mad (Jenny not Sally). Can I hope that she is back for the long term - perhaps a cat fight with Tracy and it goes from there? Either way in the short term she will twisting Johnny around her little finger.

And for those who want more I have only just discovered the podcast "Conversation Street", although one of my update colleagues is a long term listener. But beware how much time podcasts take up!

Friday 20 May

Hello,

Here we go with another Friday as we try to catch up.

We start in the flat where Nick looks at a pair of shoes he hoped to wear to the wedding but the cobbler on Tile Street has closed down. Carla's in a bit of a rush but tells him she'll take them to the place in the precinct. She tells him the surveyor's coming and asks him to keep his cool. She heads out the door but gives him a worried look just before she goes.

Jenny leaves Kabin with the Gazette, goes just around the corner and stops to look inside. She sees the story about her saving Jack and smiles.

Izzy's told everything Gary. "How have we made such a mess of things?" she asks. He tells her Anna cannot find out what's been going on. Sean comes over and asks whether the story's in the paper. They have no idea but Jenny comes over with her copy and pretends she's hasn't looked yet. Sean snatches it from her and goes into the factory.

Tracy tells Robert she's looking forward to Nick and Carla being gone. She tells him she's positive they will actually leave Weatherfield.

"Zero to Hero" says the Gazette's headline, though Sally criticises the word choice. Everyone looks at the paper except her. Even Carla comes in and moves over to the group with Sean. He reads out the story.

In the cafe, Kevin looks at the paper but he's on the sports pages. Anna is furious about Izzy not being there to support Gary. Kevin suggests she show Izzy some sympathy - after all, it could have been worse. Anna thinks he should show some sympathy instead of going on about the football but Kevin points out she's been talking about nothing else since last night. He's already read the story about Jack and wants to keep reading the story about County.

Jenny sees Johnny at coffee machine. they make small talk then she tells him she had a dream about the two of them last night but, coyly, she won't say what happened in the dream She asks whether he's thought any more about getting her trained on the machines. Then she goes back to her cleaning, leaving Johnny looking discombobulated. He calls Beth over. Beth thinks she's done something wrong. Jenny asks the machinists what's going on. Johnny tells Beth the plan to train Jenny and, apart from being relieved she's not being hauled in for badly stitched underwires, Beth is puzzled. Why her? "Can you think of a better machinist?" asks Johnny, getting her onside immediately.

There's a bloke whistling as he gets a clipboard out of his car. Tracy admires the whistling and tells him to keep it up. It seems he's the surveyor and she tells him she knows the flat and the people moving and he'll find everything in order.

As she walks away, Tracy sees Yasmeen and asks if she's all right. Yasmeen's not. She says it's nearly a year since her son died. Tracy comments that that's a real conversation killer. Yasmeen snaps at her. "Just occasionally you should stop and think because when it comes to the anniversary of your mother's death I will make no smart remark."

Beth's told the others Jenny's getting trained up as a machinist. Sean keeps an eye on Sally as he comments that Jenny's really going up in the world. She'll be running for councilor next!

In the factory office, Carla's on the phone. "See you 10 minutes." It was Michelle and Carla tells Johnny she has to look at wedding cake. Johnny tells her about the plan for Jenny and says Beth volunteered to do the training. He says Jenny's keen to learn. "Johnny's got the hots for Jenny," teases Carla. Johnny changes the subject and says he's just trying to give Jenny a leg up. Carla picks up Nick's shoes to deliver while she's out and Johnny gives her his dry cleaning as well.

The surveyor arrives in the flat and whistles a bit before telling Nick he'll crack on. Whistle, whistle, whistle.

Anna's at the garage still going on about Izzy. She saw her on the street and reckons Izzy sped up to get away from her. She's not going to go chasing her down the street but Izzy needs to explain herself and apologise. Kev tells her to cut Izzy some slack.

Nicks's forehead is creased as the whistling surveyor keeps on whistling. And whistling. And whistling. "Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!" he screams, pushing the surveyor towards the door. "Go on! Forget everything! Get out!" He slams the door behind the whistler and leans on the door, breathing deeply.

Sophie looks at the Gazette story and reckons her mum will be fuming. Kevin's troubled by Anna's family problems. Sophie suggests he make a chili.

Beth shows Jenny straight stitch then stretch stitch. "Can you say that after me - stretch stitch." Meanwhile Sal's going on about what a close-knit team they are and how they don't want Jenny worming her way in. Beth asks Jenny if Mr Connor said anything about the wiring in a faulty batch of bras last week. Jenny assures her he didn't, sees Johnny watching from the office and asks Beth to show to show her more.

Nick's outside on Maxine's bench with his head down. Robert tells him he looks shocking and Nick admits he's just lost it and kicked out the surveyor for whistling. He says he can't move away. "How can I do it? How can I change every aspect of my life when I can't cope with a bloke whistling?"

Kevin goes to the gym and orders Gary to come over for chili tonight.

Robert tells Tracy how Nick snapped and now says they can't move.

Kevin's in the factory talking to Izzy, persuading her to come for tea. Beth and Sally watch. Beth suggests they might be having an affair. Kevin tells Izzy all the family tension isn't healthy. She promises to think about coming for tea.

Nick's back home when Carla comes in. She's spoken to the surveyors. She's also heard from the solicitor and the buyers have also heard about Nick's behaviour.

It's home time at the factory. Jenny goes to see Johnny and talks about the training, doing an imitation of Beth. He says he could get another machinist to do the training. Jenny suggests he does it. He's reluctant and Jenny says he's right - in the factory someone just needs to make a cup of tea for someone and there's a rumour they're having an affair. He's right, they don't want people gossiping . . . "unless we kept it between ourselves." Johnny says yes, he might be able to spend ten minutes giving her some pointers. She thanks him and leaves him all discombobulated again.

Nick tells Carla he lost all self control. "What happened here? You were meant to be having a calm day," she tells him. He says they could stay here after they're married instead of rushing off to Devon. Carla points out they're buying a house and a restaurant down there. "I'm nuts. I am nuts," Nick tells her. She snatches up her keys and walks out.

At Kevin's, Gary, Anna and Sophie have a drink. Faye arrives with Izzy close behind.

Tracy asks Carla how Mad Max is this evening. Carla says it's none of her business. Tracy tells her that if they don't move, "I'm going to blab with a capital B." Carla suggest Tracy lay off - she's got everything she wanted. Jenny comes out of the factory and watches them argue outside the Kabin. Carla says Tracy seems so obsessed that Carla thinks she might have a crush on her. Johnny comes over and asks if everything's OK. Tracy turns to walk away as Carla tells him: "She's blackmailing me."

The end.

Yes that's right - I was here yesterday and now I am here again.

Never accumulate 240Gb of unwanted data. Apparently it is going to take more than a day to copy it so that I can delete it. Why am I copying it - well you never know do you!

This episode is numbered 8909 and we are once again going to enjoy a Jenny / Johnny episode. Je_Jo looks like it is taking over ahead of the more serious stuff next week - someone is definitely making the most of this pairing. The episode came from the pen of Ben Tagoe, whilst the director was John Anderson. Copyright remains the property of ITV Studios.

Action opens in the Street with Carla having told Johnny that Tracy has been blackmailing her and is threatening to tell Nick about the "Robert" matter unless they leave immediately after the wedding. Tracy might lose everything - but she is so keen to take Carla down. Johnny calls her a flaming kamikaze pilot and Carla assents. Get through Sunday and escape says Johnny. Tilsley does not want to go reveals Carla as he is worried about his turns.

Mega chili at Kev's with pizza for the kids and Faye! Anna dishes up being jolly and trying to cheer Izzy and Gary along.

Carla and Johnny discuss how they might get Nick to go - hypnotism? Carla reckons that Paul McKenna could not change his mind - so it is down to Carla's powers of persuasion. They meet Kate who is worried about the looks on their faces whilst Roy diligently sweeps the Street. Johnny suggests the family have a quick brew in the cafe. Kate has to rush back to Caz and Carla is not keen either. Johnny suggests a drink in the Rovers later. Eventually Carla agrees to a cup of tea.

Izzy wants to know from Gary why Anna is being nice all of a sudden. Izzy thinks they need to tell Anna about her trip to the cop shop on the previous day. Gary says later would be better. Izzy is not happy keeping a secret. Anna cheerfully clears the plates away.

Johnny assures Carla that everything is going to be fine. Johnny adds that he will control Tracy and all Carla has to do is ensure she leaves with Nick as soon as she can. Carla goes to sort Nick out and Roy asks Johnny if Carla is suffering some pre-wedding nerves. Roy congratulates him on Johnny's calming influence and he invites Roy to join the drinks in the Rovers at 7. Roy accepts.

For reasons which I have forgotten Yasmeen has some workmen giving her quote and she refers to them as part-time comedians and loses her rag. The workmen go and she then has a go at Sharif. Zeedan tries to calm her down but she stomps upstairs and slams a door like a teenager!

Jenny is walking around the factory and looks at a photo of Rosie and Sophie on Sally's machine when Johnny returns, apologising that he had been held up - just family stuff and sorted. Johnny says he is now all hers and chuckles. A Jenny smile is given in return! She says they must make the most of it. Flirt!

Izzy tells her story whilst Gary holds his head in his hands. Anna is well into her wine this evening as the tale of assault is recounted. Izzy had her phone and medication taken, so she could not call Gary. Gary supports her but Anna has another go. Anna asks if Izzy is going to start smuggling the stuff in by the ton? Anna drinking almost continuously says that she despairs. She calls Izzy stupid and Gary says she is out of order. Izzy needed it for the pain control. She says she was desperate and people do daft things when desperate - Anna should know that better than anyone. Kev tells her she is bang out of order on that one. Anna goes off upstairs to check on the children.

Nick has cooked dinner. Nick is insistent that they stay in Weatherfield. Carla reminds him that a year ago she could not have contemplated having her heart set on a new life in Devon with him. Nick reckons he is an accident waiting to happen - he cannot move to the other end of the country. Carla says she would be there for him. It goes back and forth. Carla gets him to visualise the little cottage, green fields, sea in the distance, pottering in the garden, just the two or maybe three of them. She says they have not got forever - if they are going to do this then they need to do it now! Even she is surprised at campaigning for domestic bliss. He tries again to say they could do it in Weatherfield. She wants a fresh start - just the two of them. He has to think about it. Fleetwood Mac kicks in singing "Dreams". as she hugs him tightly.

After the break we are back at Kev's - his peace keeping mission was really successful!! He comforts her over Izzy's comment. Anna admits that Izzy had a point and wishes she could control her own gob. Kev says she does it because she cares and both Izzy and Gary know that. Anna agrees but it does not help does it? Anna reckons that Izzy is losing the plot and Gary is not much better. Anna is worried about Jake. They assure Faye that there is nothing to worry about. Jack is OK upstairs in a den that Sophie and Faye have built. The two girls return to give Jack a bath. {Reminder Jake is Izzy's baby; Jack is Kev's}. Anna wonders where it is all gong to end - and she did try tonight - but her family is crumbling in front of her.

Johnny is instructing Jenny in the use of a sewing machine - she needs to get her line right. He gets much closer to show her how it is done. He asks if she minds but she says not. Little Miss Flirty says it is like the film - but Johnny is not with it. She hints - Patrick Swayze, a potter's wheel and she turns to look at him, heads close together. He leans to kiss her but at the last second she turns her head away and he says "I'm sorry". She says it is fine and he should not worry about it. Johnny is discomforted. Jenny says she would be lying if she said she was not tempted. Johnny says it was his fault and it will not happen again. Time to call it a night. She agrees. She adds that if he promises to give her another lesson she will not tell a soul about his terrible mistake. He agrees and apologises again. She tells him it never happened! Closing shot of the scene Jenny with big smile and her tongue licking her lips like the cat got the cream.

Leanne approaches Zeedan in the Rovers. He is worried about Yasmeen - she will not talk about the forthcoming anniversary and pretends she is OK when she is not. Yasmeen has been acting weird for weeks. Sean tries to cheer them both up. Leanne reminds us that it is a year next week since Kal died (BGT is to blame for all this!). Zeedan asks if Leanne will have a chat with Yasmeen. He thinks she might listen to Leanne, but she is going to see Peter next week to avoid the date - she agrees to try anyway.

Kate, Nick and Carla have gathered but there is no sign of Johnny - but then he arrives a little late. He does not say what he has been doing. Caz is not in the mood to join them. Nick confirms that after all they will be going! Roy arrives and Johnny buys a round. Roy wants a word with Carla in private. So they move to the next booth.

Izzy reckons she will be in front of the judge on her own. She appreciates Gary standing by her. Gary says he really should move in. He just wants to help. Izzy recalls getting the keys to the flat, door shut and it was her own little castle. He reassures her it will work.

Roy has a difficult subject to broach. He suggests that Johnny should walk Carla down the aisle after all. He would be honoured to do it - but can see how much closer she and Johnny have become. Carla assures Roy that Johnny understands why she has asked Roy. He puts the choice back to Carla (in the background Michael Buble sings "Sway").

Leanne is offered a drink - tea or coffee - by Sharif. He leaves her with Yasmeen. Apparently the three most stressful tasks in life - getting married, moving house and planning a conservatory (oh that was why the workmen). Leanne says she will be away next week. Nowhere nice - just Portsmouth (spit!). Si wants to see his dad (and taking him out of school again - is that allowed these days? - apparently she has had permission!). Leanne only came round to talk to Yasmeen - but the latter has nothing to talk about. Leanne says she knows that one day will be different - because of the date. So what is Leanne suggesting - that she should run away as well? Leanne tells her to look to Zeedan, Sharif and Alya - she has to give them a chance to help her. It might be a nice surprise. And what about Tracy asks Yasmeen. She walks around as if nothing has happened. Leanne says she must forget Tracy. And they look at each other.

Back in the Rovers it is red wine for Carla and this for "son". Thanks "Dad" says Nick. but they should probably stick to names. Kate bemoans the lack of crisps! Carla says Roy has had second thoughts over walking Carla down the aisle. Tracy has arrived at the bar and is projecting evils immediately. Roy thinks Johnny should do the job she tells Nick. And Carla thinks Roy may be right. So? Johnny accepts the invitation. It will be an absolute honour. Toasts to the happy couple, father of the bride and happy ever after in Devon. Tracy tells them they are all being a bit premature. Next week they will be hand in hand in the Champs-Elysees. Tracy asks Sean for a sick bag as the happy couple kiss. She decides she does not like the ambience and leaves.

Johnny follows Tracy outside. People who destroy end up destroying themselves and he says Tracy should stop going that way. She tells Johnny that Carla and Nick are welcome to each other. Good riddance when they go. Johnny reckons that Tracy cannot stop herself. If she does anything to disrupt the wedding she will pay for it he warns her. If she steps out of line on Sunday he will deliver more misery on her door than she could ever imagine. Tracy shakes her head in disbelief.

We dissolve too quickly into a trailer for next week.

Stuart Blackburn remains in charge.

Not quite so much Jenny as the last update - but well on the road to having a puppet on a string. And sadly I was not convinced by Johnny's hard man act with Tracy - nor was she!

A big week next week - we find out if Britain has Got Talent so Corrie gets moved to the sandwich filling between the heats and the results show. Being put out at 9 it is just beyond the watershed, so can be darker. See you for next Thursday's update.

Sunday 22 May

Written by Mark Burt directed by Michael Lacey

The wedding day dawns. It's a beautiful day. Tracy calls over to Johnny about it being a beautiful day for it. She gets a short remark in reply. Around the corner, Nick and David come, returning from a run, and are greeted by Eva. Nick seems in a fine mood, all smiles. Kirk comes along with a smile. Nick mentions that Max hasn't been feeling well and Tim and Sally canceled as well and asks Kirk if he's feeling ok, which he is. He's looking forward to it! Tyrone drives by in the Woody with a wave. Robert also comes along and establishes that Nick isn't at all nervous.

But in the flat, Carla contemplates her wedding dress, hanging up beside her, and looks distinctly dubious.

In the flower shop, Amy comes swanning in showing off her new dress. She's going to the wedding, apparently. Todd flatters her but Tracy is sour. Amy points out that sour and twisted isn't a good look and reckons Tracy's suffering "sour ape". Robert corrects her, "sour grapes" but Todd likes the first one better! Robert sends Amy home rather than further winding up her mother. Todd leaves the shop. Robert establishes that Tracy is going to behave. Tracy insists she hasn't given Carla another thought. Robert is relieved, pointing out they're very close to the finish line. He doesn't quite look confident.

Rita is looking for a wedding card in the back stock. Eva asks Jenny if she's going to the wedding. Turns out Jenny wasn't invited. Rita finds what she's looking for and Jenny insists on paying for the card. Jenny looks a bit downhearted.

Tracy has gone into the cafe for a cappuccino and is dismayed that the cafe is in fact closed. It's all decorated with flowers and Anna is putting out food. They're having a wedding brunch for Carla. Kate and Caz are already there. Anna thinks it will be easier if they just serve her but Roy doesn't want to set a precedent. Tracy spies a card in the bouquet on the countertop and nicks it. The rest of the Connors come in. Johnny asks Tracy to leave and is given a mouthful of typical abuse. Tracy wishes Carla good luck. It even sounds like she means it, that is, it's not sarcastic at least. Carla reckons luck doesn't come into it, virtually guaranteeing she's going to need all she can get. Tracy leaves with a remark about the flowers being sub standard. She could have done better! Outside, she goes across the road and pulls the card out of her pocket with an evil smile.

In Number 5, Alya, Sinead, Beth and Fiz are doing beauty routines before getting dressed for the wedding. Sinead has made custom face packs. Fiz comes down in an ill-fitting dress and worries about it. Sinead thinks it just needs a few quick alterations because it's a bit big on top. Beth hands her a glass of wine.

Tracy is on the phone when Todd comes in. Sounds like she's making some sort of arrangements to reroute a delivery to Crewe and emails the address to the flower shop that she's speaking to. Todd is perplexed. She declines to tell him what it was she was doing.

In the cafe, Carla is still thoughtful. Roy approaches her and tells her that Hayley would have loved to see her so happy. She caresses his arm as he turns. Cathy comes over to her. Carla admits she misses Hayley every day. She tells Hayley that she'd always keep an eye on Roy. Cathy knows where it's going and promises to do it herself. Carla hugs her. Michelle comes in finally and pulls Johnny to one side. Turns out there's a glitch with the flowers. They're being delivered to Crewe on the orders of Michelle's P.A. Michelle doesn't have one of those. They don't tell the others what's going on. Johnny doesn't want her to tell Carla and implies that Tracy is probably responsible. Johnny promises to sort it.

He goes into the flower shop and confronts Tracy. Todd clocks what Tracy had been doing earlier. Tracy already knows exactly what the order was, implicating herself, as intended. She points out he needs flowers and she's got them though it won't come cheap. He's up the creek and doesn't have much of a choice.

Nick asks David how Max is. Not that well and David wonders if maybe Kylie won't make the wedding either. The two of them have the laptop open and are following instructions on tying ties. I am stymied. Surely Nick knows how to tie a tie but perhaps he's doing it for David's sake. They look more like they might be cravats, actually.

Kirk returns with the wedding gift, having had some trouble tracking one down. It's a foot spa. Alya seems a bit surprised. She's given them a digital picture frame. Sinead made signature homemade soaps. Fiz found something at a charity shop, an old fashioned Toby Jug. She thought a move to the country warranted something "rustic". The others smile and pretend it's a great idea. Kirk is freaked out by the jug, its eyes following him around the room.

Todd tells Tracy she has no shame and is playing with fire. She corrects him. She saw an opportunity. He notes she's overcharging him shamelessly. She has filled out something and put it in a small envelope and wants Todd to take it to Number 8. It notes on the front not to open until after the ceremony. Todd is reluctant and warns her that messing with a bloke like Johnny will come back to haunt her. She doesn't look too worried.

Tyrone comes into the cafe and hands the keys to the Woody to Roy. He looks a bit grubby for the work he's done. Cathy brings a canvas down and tells them it's her wedding gift. She did a painting of Adam and Eve under a tree and made them look like Nick and Carla. They have strategically placed leaves, of course, and as tacky as it is, she did get the faces pretty accurate! Nobody else really knows where to look! Roy thinks the brushwork is superb. The men go out to the car. Anna offers to wrap it if Cathy wants to get ready. She recalls her own wedding where it only took her a half hour to get ready. In reply to Anna's question, it was a lovely day, a wedding to a lovely man who then cheated on her with her sister. Anna wonders if it's put Cathy off marrying again. No, it doesn't seem to have done so. Does Cathy have ideas in that direction, we wonder?

Johnny is still waiting in the shop while Todd and Tracy gather big, white, fluffy flowers of various sizes and sort them into arrangements. Frankly, they're ugly and don't look like wedding flowers at all. Johnny won't leave because he doesn't trust Tracy and can't see why Todd puts up with her. Tracy asks if there's a message to go with the flowers. No, thanks. She then teases Johnny and tells them she's already written a card to Nick, panicking Johnny, who runs out.

In Platt Towers, the men are still struggling with the ties when Johnny comes knocking frantically on the door. He comes in, looking around. The buttonholes are there and Nick has already noticed that his fiancee's arch rival has done the flowers. Johnny brushes it off, referring to a glitch with the original florist. He admits Carla doesn't know. David doesn't know why Tracy agreed to it. Johnny picks up the small envelope, saying it's the bill and he's paying for it. He makes his exit. David muses that Tracy probably put poison ivy in Carla's bouquet.

Outside, Johnny is relieved to have retrieved the envelope. He opens it and is angry at the note inside. Jenny approaches with a smile. He's still preoccupied a bit. She wants to help if she can, suggesting she could be a plus one. Johnny is distracted, telling her he hasn't got time and goes off with his phone, leaving her looking glum.

The girls are still working on their beauty regime. The face packs are off and the faces are glowing. Tyrone comes in with another bottle of wine but is only staying long enough to wash his face. Tyrone tells Fiz she looks amazing even though she's not even in her dress yet. He goes upstairs, with the others sighing at his lovely remark, (the women, not Kirk)

Tracy comes into the factory, summoned by Johnny. He'd told her he had her money for her, 900 pounds! She wants it. He demands a truce out of her. She's enjoying watching everyone run around in a panic. He warns her. No truce, no money.

Back to Number 5, the finishing touches are being applied and more wine is being poured. Kirk is holding the Toby jug and speculates that it knows what he's thinking. He's really creeped out! Tyrone comes downstairs looking upset. He says the bathroom was steamy and he'd had some grit in his eye and he's really sorry. He thought it was a towel and brings out Fiz's dress from behind his back.

Johnny points out that Tracy has everything she wanted. Not quite, Tracy says, everything would include Carla broken and drunk and slumped in a corner. Johnny accuses Tracy of being jealous because even though Carla has had a rough life, she's still strong and successful and happy and despite all her failings, Carla is still the better woman. Tracy knows it too and decides she's going to spill the beans after all but Johnny grabs her and shoves her into a storage room and locks the door on her.

Monday 23 May

There was just visit to Weatherfield this evening due to some rescheduling caused by various events both on and off the cobbles. So here, without further ado, is what happened on Monday 23rd May. The episode was written by Julie Jones and directed by Michael Lacey.

We open in the factory where Tracy is locked in the store room. While she tries unsuccessfully to kick the door down, Johnny paces up and down outside.

Over at Platt Towers Nick's ironing his shirt. David comes downstairs and announces that poor Max is suffering from a stomach bug and it looks like a scene from the Exorcist upstairs (too much information). Robert arrives, clutching the Corrie clipboard, to go over some last minute details. He keeps trying to call Tracy who has gone AWOL.

Meanwhile the women are all getting ready at Carla's. They're drinking Champagne, apart from Carla, who uncharacteristically has decided to stay sober for her special day. She announces she's going out to give Johnny her gift of some cufflinks. Kate tells her he's probably at the factory.

In the Kabin Jenny's down in the dumps. She was hoping to be Johnny's plus one for the wedding. Rita suggests she may be reading too much into their friendship. She tells Jenny he's been very kind to her and has given her a chance to improve her life and suggest she concentrates on that.

On her way to find Johnny Carla bumps into Robert. They have an awkward but very civil exchange. Then Robert mentions that Tracy has gone missing. Carla has bent over backwards to make sure nothing goes wrong today but alarm bells start to ring. Something is up, but what?

Roy and Cathy are all dressed up for the wedding. On their way out Cathy remembers she needs tissues. She sends Roy on ahead and stops for a quick chat with Anna who comments that they make a very handsome couple. Anna asks Cathy if she would marry Roy if he asked her. "In a heartbeat," replies Cathy.

Back at the factory Tracy is still shouting at Johnny through the locked door. She tells him she only has one kidney. She says she has to take her medication six times a day and if she doesn't she could die. Johnny starts to look worried. He looks in her handbag and finds her pills. He turns up the radio to drown out the sound of her shouting and says he's going to find the key. But as he turns away, Carla comes in. She hands him to cufflinks and then tells him Tracy's gone missing. Carla asks Johnny if everything's alright. He replies that he loves her and that he'd do anything for her, then sends her off to get ready. After Carla's gone, Johnny pushes Tracy's pills under the door then says sorry, she's going to have to sit it out.

At Beth and Kirk's house, they're trying to sort out the problem of Fiz's ruined dress. Sinead is convinced they can cover up the stain with a scarf – at least it's worth a try, she says.

Carla has returned home and she emerges from her bedroom in her finery. The dress is lovely but her face looks like she's going to a funeral. There's a knock on the door – it's Todd with the bouquets. Seeing the expressions on Michelle and Carla's faces he realises Johnny hasn't filled them in. He breaks the news that the florist was "detained" and that the "lovely" Tracy stepped in and saved the day. Carla's face falls even further.

In the Bistro kitchen Nick is practising his speech. He's looking nervous. Robert suggests a brandy but David has a better idea and distracts him with a Rugby tackle.

Sean calls in to buy something from the Kabin. He asks Jenny how the knicker-stitching's going. She admits she's struggling. Sean suggests she takes advantage of the fact the factory's quiet and goes in to have a practice on the machines. Jenny says that sounds like a great idea, she might just do that.

It may only be a hundred yards away but Michelle has ordered a car to take Carla to the Bistro and it's arrived. Carla looks like she's about to walk the plank rather than get married. Michelle takes her hands and tells her it will soon all be over, she'll be on the plane to Paris with her husband and she can forget all about Tracy Barlow.

Jenny arrives at the factory to find the radio blaring. She turns it down and Tracy shouts at her from the store room to let her out. But before she unlocks the door Johnny appears and tells her to stop. "Don't tell me you're playing hide and seek," says Jenny.

At the Bistro the guests have started to assemble and Gail is fussing round like a mother hen. David jokes to Nick that if he wants to change his mind, now's the time to say but Nick says he's fine, marrying Carla's the best thing he's ever done.

Fiz comes downstairs wearing a scarf over her dress but it just doesn't work so Beth tells her to pop down the shops and buy another one. Ty reminds her they're skint. No problem says Beth – just take it back tomorrow and ask for a refund.

Carla is driven along the street and everyone gathers outside the Bistro. Everyone, that is, except Johnny. His car's parked outside the flat but there's no sign of him. Realising there's a problem, Roy offers to step in. He tells Carla it would be an honour to give her away. Carla finally cracks a smile when the photographer assumes Roy is the father of the bride. She insists Cathy is included in the photo.

Back in the factory Johnny tells Jenny that he doesn't normally go locking women in cupboard but Tracy has something on Carla and she's threatening to ruin the wedding. As Tracy continues to shout and thump on the door, Jenny tells Johnny he can't go to his daughter's wedding looking like that. She offers to stay and mind Tracy and suggests Johnny leaves by the back door in case someone sees him. Jenny smiles to herself as Johnny thanks her and says he owes her big time.

In the Bistro the moment has come. As Nick takes a few calming deep breaths, Roy walks Carla up the aisle. He tells her he's very proud of her and he knows Hayley would be, too.

The registrar says the introduction and reaches the part where he says that today is a proud confirmation of the respect and the trust they have for each other. Carla looks at Nick and tells him she needs to speak to him. In private, she adds. The guests all exchange worried glances. "I need to tell you something," says Carla …

Tuesday 24 May

The wedding guests are wondering what's going on, Gail says she never trusted Carla, and the registrar has to go soon, he's playing squash! Johnny rushes in, worried that he's missed it. On being told that Carla stopped the proceedings and that she and Nick are in the kitchen, he tries to go in there, but Aidan stops him.

Out in the kitchen, Nick is all smiles, sure that he knows it's just Carla not letting herself be happy, until she mutters that she slept with someone. That wipes the smile off his face, pronto. "What?" he says. She tells him it was a one-off, she was drunk, it was a mistake, but it happened. Nick demands to know who it was, and eventually she tells him it was Robert. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry," she whispers.

Over in the factory, Jenny has the music up loud while she sews, and Tracy is still in the cupboard. She kicks the door, angrily.

Back in the kitchen, Nick is getting increasingly wound up as he thinks of all the wedding preparations that Robert has been involved in. "I bet he's laughing his head off, isn't he?" he says. Carla assures him that no one is laughing, but Nick suddenly loses it and starts shouting and knocking pans to the floor. Robert, outside in the restaurant, starts looking very worried. Nick demands to know when it was, and Carla stammers that it was weeks ago, months. Nick wants to know why Carla pushed him to sell Robert the Bistro. "What was that? Compensation?" he shouts. She starts to explain about Tracy, but he interrupts, saying that the new life wasn't about them was it? Then he wants to know why she's chosen now to tell him. She tells him she can't live with it, she can't stand out there in front of everyone and keep hating herself for it. She tells him she needs him to forgive her, so they can start again. "Please," she begs.

Tracy is still in the cupboard. Jenny turns the music up louder and leaves, laughing.

Nick is calmer now, and wonders how he never saw it. Carla tells him she didn't let him see it. She knows she should have told him straight away and begged his forgiveness, but she is begging his forgiveness now. She wants them to grow old together. He tells her to go, to leave him alone. She tells him she won't give up on them, she says she'll go out there and wait for him. "Marry me," she says, "please marry me."

In the cupboard, Tracy comes across a box of matches, and looks up. On the ceiling is a smoke alarm. She strikes a match and picks up a piece of card.

Nick wanders outside, and David comes out. Nick looks at the mess beside the bins. "As long as it's pretty in there, no matter what mess he leaves behind," he says. "What's happened?" asks David.

In the Bistro, Robert tells Michelle he can't understand why Carla has done this. "When she was this close to getting what she wanted." Michelle tells him that not everyone is like him, getting what they want at all costs. "You and Tracy make a great couple," she says. Carla is sitting alone, staring into space. Gail wants to go over and ask her what is going on, but Audrey stops her. Roy sits down next to Carla and tells her that today is not the end of the story, whatever the outcome, the story will continue. He tells her not to let despair take hold.

Out in the back yard, David and Nick are still talking. Nick is sure that Carla is kidding herself that she wants him, she will always want blokes like Peter and Robert. David thinks she just messed up, and Nick agrees it could be true, but he's anguished over the fact that it happened months ago, and there's been months of whispering in corners, getting their story straight, secret looks between them. David points out that Nick has done worse – with Kylie, but he got over it. "Are you still after Kylie now?" he asks. Nick shakes his head. "Exactly," says David, "it was a one off." David says that if Nick still loves Carla, it might be worth another chance.

David goes back into the restaurant and picks up some glasses of champagne. As he walks to a table he comes face to face with Robert. "You know what? You're lucky I've got my hands full or you'd be licking the floor," he says as he walks past. Steph frowns. "It's hardly your fault, is it?" she says to Robert.

Aidan's phone rings, it's Rita telling him that the factory alarm is going off. He goes off to see what the problem is.

Cathy is worried about Alex, she finds she's had 3 missed calls from him, and got a jumbled up message. Carla tells her to get off, she thinks the circus is over anyway. She then stands up and announces to the guests that the wedding is off – her fault completely. However, just then Nick comes back into the room and smiles at her. "Let's get married," he says.

Aidan rushes into the factory, closely followed by Rita and Jenny. He turns off the music and hears Tracy banging on the cupboard door and shouting. He opens the door and Tracy marches out. As she passes Jenny she waves a finger. "You are next!" she snaps.

In the Bistro, Carla and Nick are exchanging vows at last, as all the guests look on, smiling. Then suddenly Tracy barges in and stops everything, demanding to know if she's missed the objections. Nick says she can have her moment, despite Carla pleading with him not to let her. "She can't hurt us now, can she?" he says. "That slag slept with my boyfriend!" says Tracy, pointing at Carla. Nick points out that objections have to be lawful, making a mistake isn't illegal. "What? You know?" asks Tracy, dumbfounded. "Yes, sorry to rain on your grenade," says Nick. Tracy however, hasn't finished, and starts to ask what kind of an idiot Nick is. Nick says she can go now, and Robert takes her by the arm and tries to pull her away. Tracy then announces that is was she who made Carla persuade him to sell the Bistro to Robert. Then she tells him that Carla gave Robert the money so he could afford it. "Did she tell you that?" she asks. Nick looks shocked. "You see, she will never stop lying", says Tracy, and starts to shout more and more poisonous things about how Carla doesn't love him, she only loves herself. Then Johnny jumps up and he and Robert drag Tracy out. Carla whispers to Nick to stay with her, they've got their whole lives ahead of them and begs him not to let Tracy poison that. She says that no matter what lies she might have told, the truth is that she loves him. There's a moment's pause, and then Nick continues with his vow to take Carla as his lawful, wedded wife.

Fiz and Tyrone are in a dress shop, and she's trying on dresses, but is worrying at the prices.

The wedding party is underway, and Johnny is making a speech, wishing the happy couple a long and happy life together. Then Nick gets up and starts to make his speech. He starts by saying that six months ago Carla walked into the Bistro and asked him to marry her. Then he stop, freezes and frowns. He looks down and Carla. "Was it then?" he asks. "Months ago, was it then? Is that why you proposed?" Carla insists that it wasn't, but Nick isn't so sure. "The truth," he says. She assures him that is the truth, but Nick reckons that after weeks and weeks of lying he can't tell when she's lying or telling the truth. Then he gets really upset and tearfully announces that he can't do this, throws down his napkin and leaves. The guests all look stunned and worried. Carla weeps silently.

Wednesday 25 May

Yes, it's a Wednesday episode, and it's me, because we're all displaced updaters this week

This wedding (or non-wedding) has been going on for days and it all seems a bit over-written, with lots of Portents of Doom. I'll capitalise them when I get to them so you can read them out in a deep, important voice. They're like a SatNav for plot lines.

We open at that wedding where Michelle wants Carla to talk to Nick and Gail wants to run her out of town. Gail thinks maybe David knew about all this and Johnny tells Nick that Carla needs him. "You Can Get Through This," he says. he tells Nick he can't let Tracy win. "It's not Tracy, it's her," Nick says, glaring across the room at Carla. He says the worst thing she's ever done is lie to him. Gail stomps over to confront Carla. "Gail, I'm so, so sorry," says Carla. Whack! Gail knocks her for six.

Max has made a parachute and floats his Action Man-type figure down to the street, where Kylie picks it up and shouts up at him that she's not fetching it again. Poor Max. He's been trapped up there since Monday when this wedding began!

Michelle remonstrates with Gail but she explains to childless Carla (yes, she makes that point) that if someone hurts her child, Gail will hurt them. She warns Carla not to plead with Nick for a second chance. "Walk away and don't come near my son again!" Roy tries to bring some common sense into the scene but Gail gives him a warning, too. "One Day Carla Will Hurt You Just Like She's Hurt Everyone Else." [It's as if they wrote the episode then went back and added signposts so we wouldn't get lost along the way] Roy knows Carla has a good heart - he's seen that for himself. Nick announces he's leaving to go and find a lawyer. He's got an annulment to organise.

Tracy and Robert are outside. She says Nick's a total idiot. Robert says he's not the only one. Tracy asks what that's supposed to mean and Robert asks what she thinks it means.

In the cafe, disaster is averted when Cathy discovers the chiller is just accidentally unplugged and not broken down. They talk about weddings and marriages and the difference between the two.

In the dress shop, Fiz opens the dressing room curtain to reveal herself looking stunning in a scarlet frock. Tyrone insists she has to buy it. He promises he won't let them get into debt again.

Alex thinks Roy and Cathy should marry and he suggests she propose.

In the Bistro, Audrey's taking some of her family, including Gail Tyson back to hers. She asks Sarah, David and Bethany, "What's wrong with us, eh? I Don't See How Things Could Get Any Worse For This Family."

Ken and Amy confront Tracy outside. She's gleeful that Nick dumped Carla at the wedding. Ken walks away in disgust. Tracy wants to get back to watch the results of her handiwork but Robert manhandles her away from that. Nick comes past and tells Robert he should grow a spine. He says Robert wasn't forced into doing anything. Robert says getting him to sell the Bistro wasn't his idea. "That was her. You've got to believe me, mate." Whack! "Don't call me mate!" roars Nick as his fist connects. "Baby!" shouts Tracy. Robert pushes her away. "I thought I had a strong stomach but you repulse me!" He walks away, leaving Tracy slumped against a wall.

Carla asks Roy for help to escape. He says she shouldn't drive and goes off to get the Woody.

Robert's packed a surprisingly small bag for a man with suits. He apologises to Ken who tells him we all make mistakes but the problem is that Tracy never learns from hers. Tracy comes in and pleads for Robert to talk to her but he just leaves. Ken tells her not to try talking to Amy, either. Amy doesn't want to see her.

Sinead and Kirk talk about leave the non-wedding but Beth's realised the free bar is still operating, so they stay. Michelle asks Maria to help persuade everyone to leave, to give Carla some privacy. Aidan takes the blame for letting Tracy out of the storeroom. Carla leaves.

Max drops the parachute again.

Carla comes out of the Bistro. Outside the shop, Cathy stops Roy as he's hurrying past to get his car, kneels on the ground and asks him to marry her. "No, no, I can't - I have to get the car!" he explains.

Tyrone and Fiz are on their way back in the breakdown wagon. Tyrone's feet are killing him and at the traffic lights he takes off his uncomfortable shoes.

Rita's trying to find out what happened at the factory but Jenny's being very evasive.

Carla goes to her car and finds a parachuted Action Man on it. Roy doesn't see her and drives up to the Bistro, where Johnny tells him he can't park there. Jenny comes out of the paper shop to bring in the Shouty-Paper-Boy paper banner thingy but finds someone's moved him over near Gail's garden. She begins to drag it back across the area outside the garage and factory. Carla gets in her car and sees Tracy directly ahead of her. She puts her lights on high beam and revs her engine. Alex and Cathy are outside Dev's shop. Roy is still doing a 97-point turn to move away from the Bistro. Then, Carla shoots forward towards Tracy but swerves, affected by the fact the Woody is in her way, just as Tyrone drives into the street and swerves to avoid Carla but his shoe gets caught under the brake pedal just as he sees Jenny in his way and the truck keeps turning and goes straight into Gail's annexe. Whew! It all had a too-choreographed feel to it.

Johnny runs to Carla and Roy runs to Cathy, who's been knocked down by Carla and is lying unconscious outside the shop. In the truck, Fiz tries to rouse Tyrone, who appears to be knocked out.

David and Kylie and Sarah race through the wrecked house to find the children. Lily seems to be missing but is found under the dining table.

David has a torch and climbs through the wrecked former garage to ask if Fiz and Tyrone are all right. Tyrone's awake and tells him he's sure he's run over someone. He felt the truck go over them. I'm assuming this is the paper boy figure. And then the truck lurches through the floor as the concrete slab over Callum's tomb breaks.

Outside, Roy blanks Carla as he climbs into the ambulance to be with Cathy. David breaks the news to Sarah and Kylie that when they pull the truck from the house they'll find Callum's body.

And that's the end of that one.

Thursday 26 May

This is my third update in less than a week. No Friday night transmission as the football is on. We have further disruption coming as Euro 2016 takes precedence over a mere soap transmission.

This is episode 8914 and it was written by Jan McVerry. The director was Michael Lacey. Copyright remains the property of ITV Studios to whom many thanks.

We have finally left Sunday behind. It was a long day covering the previous four episodes and now it is early Monday morning as David, flashlight in hand climbs around the front of the lorry and he looks down into the broken drain and is almost overcome with the stench of a rotting body. Outside we hear workmen wanting to get props into place as it looks like the roof is going to collapse. David backs out rapidly.

At her flat Carla is packing and 'Chelle accuses her of doing a bunk as Kate watches. She has been breathalysed and was under the limit. [The first time there has been no detectable trace of alcohol inside Carla Connor - almost unbelievable given her titanic red wine consumption]. 'Chelle tells Kate that Carla is gong to Devon as she had planned - but by herself. Carla knows that she could have killed Cathy (hooray she is not dead!). She tells "Shell" that she cannot see Roy being forgiving this time. [We can, of course we can!]. She knows Roy has done with her. All three of them are in tears.

In the hospital Roy, still wearing suit and tie sits at Cathy's bedside and we known instantly that there is nothing seriously wrong as most unusually for a Corrie hospital scene she does not have oxygen tubes in her nose. She has some serious abrasions to the right side of her head.

David enters I think Nick's flat where Sarah asks where he has been. He tells her he has been home to see what the damage was like. It is pretty bad. The manhole has caved in because of the weight of the truck [assessment in this house was that this was unlikely unless the building work was bodged - this was in a garage and could reasonably have to take the load of a car]. David says that the smell emanating from the hole is awful. Sarah starts falling apart and Kylie is looking very pale. David says they are finished - they are history. So they need ideas to save their skins. Neither girl has anything to say.

Michelle tells Carla that she is the only person who understands her. Carla lists the people she has hurt - Nick, Cathy, Roy, Tyrone and Fiz. The damage Carla has done is simply too great; the guilt she feels is simply too great. Carla assures "Shell" that someone will fill the gap which is opening up, but Michelle knows that they will not be "Carla". They hug again.

Tracy is slumped in Ken's armchair thinking about where it all went wrong. Ken passes her her beeping phone. It is a message from Phil as Robert spent last night on his sofa. Ken reckons it is some consolation that Robert was not with another woman. Tracy says she was lied to, she was locked up and nearly mown down by a car. Amy appears around the door and {I swear she is Blanche re-incarnated} asks very sarcastically if she should get her violin out? Tracy looks stunned. But Amy continues to stare at her in a quite scary way.

Audrey, David, Kylie, Gail and Sarah walk along the Street to watch the recovery operation. Bethany has been left in charge of the other children. They stand outside David's house mouths wide open at the disaster scene. David offers to get teas and coffees. Kylie tells him not to be long. Audrey orders a tea with lots of sugar for Gail.

Jenny stands outside number 9 also watching events. Tracy approaches and starts sounding off - but Johnny and Aidan come from the other direction pointing out that Tracy entered the factory uninvited and then tried to burn the place down - for which she has form. Johnny suggests that they should sue! One word against another. Tracy says she would relish the fight and calls Jenny a loser. Johnny walks close to Tracy and replies saying she should not disrespect his staff or family. He reminds Tracy that Aidan freed her and Jenny was practising her overlocking. "Whatever", answers Tracy and adds that Jenny needs to watch her back because the goon squad will not always be around to prop her up. [And a new feud is born - Tracy v Jenny; catfight anyone?]. Tracy stalks away.

In Roy's Rolls Sinead says the factory is closed and she is helping Fiz with the kids. She is very shaken up. Apparently if the police think Ty contributed to the accident then he could end up in prison. Ty at this point still thinks he ran over a body - it was the newsstand paper boy. Anna upbraids Nick about more of Carla's chaos. Nick denies being the cause of the crash - but Anna merely means that he is not the only one who is hurt. All this time David is not getting served. Nick is waving around some tickets. Nick nods. David sits down with Nick who is not looking forward to everyone's pity. David tells him to leave. Nick should be on a plane tonight to Paris. David says he should still go without the psychopath. Nick would rather burn the tickets. David looks at the tickets.

Tracy returns home to Number One to find Robert bringing his clothes downstairs He ignores Tracy. Robert tells Ken that he will come back for the rest when "she" is not here. Robert admits there are wrongs on both sides and that no-one is perfect. He made a mistake - but she stuck the knife in and twisted it. Tracy does not look at all apologetic. Robert finally addresses Tracy - he would tell her to have a nice life but he knows she won't. She agrees - not without you. "And without me" adds Amy. She announces she is going to live with her dad and Michelle. There is a knock at the door and Amy lets Michelle in. Tracy says wires are crossed. Michelle does not think so. Amy says she can say it here or in front of a judge. She has seen good mums and Tracy is not one of them. And turns to look at Michelle as she says it to emphasise the point. Amy calls Tracy "Nasty, Lazy, and she always puts herself first". Tracy says she has bought Amy some bon-bons! Amy adds "And whenever you know you're in trouble, you just throw money at me." Michelle tells Tracy that she has brought all of this on herself. Tracy tries to reach out to Amy who simply backs away towards Michelle. Tracy says that Amy is angry but she will understand when she is older. Amy, back in full Blanche mode, tells her to save her breath. Tracy insists on getting Amy her pillow to take with her. Robert walks out telling Tracy that this ship is sinking and she should start swimming. Michelle looks quite pleased at that! She tells Tracy that what goes around, comes around. Michelle and Amy leave as well. Ken in the background is not surprised in the slightest.

Along the Street Tyrone, Eileen and Tim are watching the lorry being winched out. They are all amazed that the Platt children all escaped unhurt. Ty asks if the truck is knackered and Eileen thinks the fandangle's knackered but the spondoolicks can probably be patched up! Suddenly one of the men insists the winch is stopped. Work has to stop as they think they have found a body. The boss summons the police. Ty goes into meltdown. And Kylie, now even whiter wonders where David has got to.

After the break we are back at Cathy's bedside where Roy is looking at the list of sandwiches for lunch. Cathy wants to talk about the proposal saying Alex egged her on. She accepts it is far too soon for Roy to be thinking about marriage. Roy does not respond and then ever so slowly the door opens (how do Corrie patients always get a private room?) and a penitent Carla comes in. Carla knows that she is that last person they want to see - but she had to come. Cathy reports concussion, bumps and bruises. Carla that sorry is not big enough. Cathy says it will fade. Carla saw Roy's face and will never forget that look. Roy says that perhaps she will remember that the next time she lashes out. But Carla knows that Roy does not believe that. Carla observes that if you have been here once, twice, three maybe four times it all wears a bit thin. She says they will not witness the next time - she will spare them as she is going away. But she will not forget she assures Roy. She tells them to take care of each other. Roy almost ignores her. Cathy points out that Carla is going. He says bye-bye. Carla goes and Cathy looks distressed; Roy ignores both and studies the menu.

The police in high-viz jackets are everywhere. Gail has still not got her tea. Ty is very worried until one of the policeman reveals that the body is not a recent death - it has been under the floor for some time and it is badly decomposed. Kylie listening pales further if that is possible. "Under my bed" gasps Gail. Sarah is melting down but Kylie says she can manage it - they just need to be there a few more minutes. Audrey briefs Eileen, Tim, Ty and Sinead and the relief on Ty's face is clear. Tim recalls Richard III being found under a car park! Eileen looking for the humour reckons it might be one of Gail's many husbands. How does it go? Divorced, buried under the bed, died, divorced ... Sarah snaps and tells her to watch her mouth - it is her mother she is slagging off and someone's son she adds. Kylie tells Sarah that Eileen did not mean it. Ty spots that a son was mentioned and asks if it was male and Kylie says son or daughter - someone's child. [Fatal slip there from Sarah - could this be the end for her?]. Eileen apologises for opening her big mouth. David appears in the distance and we see him heading towards the salon.

Anna is serving Jenny. The news of the body has reached the cafe. Anna has missed the hoo hah but still gets the aftermath! Johnny arrives and Jenny rushes across to him to thank him for what he had said previously (to Tracy). She calls him her knight in shining armour. He recalls she rescued him the previous day. And he notes she is not frightened of anyone. She says that maybe she likes his smile (little miss flirty is back on form). And maybe Johnny likes hers! They are both smiling.

Cathy is bending Roy's ear. Carla is going and he needs to say goodbye. 200 miles away. Hayley's friend. Cathy assures him she is fit to be left. Alex is coming. She is being used an excuse. Roy says he is tired of the insanity. Roy adds that Carla will not change. Cathy tells him that Roy will have to live with his decision.

On the Street Aidan is loading Johnny's rather nice Jaguar with Carla's bags. Kate hugs Carla and hopes she hates Devon and that the men have heads like spuds and the conversation stops when she enters the pub. Carla says she will give the locals something to talk about. Michelle is in tears. Nick runs in from the other end of the Street, in front of d-i-y shop, "J Eccleston & Sons" which I have never seen before. he stops. Carla waves. Nick runs on. Carla says she has to go. Johnny says he will be in touch over the car and flat. Aidan and Johnny both hug her in turn. Johnny wishes he had been better. She says "I love you Dad." Michelle dissolves in tears. Behind the Connor family Tracy emerges from her shop.

Inside the salon David is telling Kylie that they can head for Paris. He has Nick's tickets, change the names and buy some more for the kids. he has not told Nick about Callum. They will just say they are going to see Martin. She wants to confess. David says that there is not enough time. There is a knock at the door of the salon. It is Sarah. She wants to know what is going on - and then sees the tickets. They all look at each other.

Carla walks over to Tracy and offers her a free slap. Tracy doesn't do it - she can see Carla is going. She has hated nay loathed Carla for years. Carla has realised that Tracy wanted to be her. It is not all it is cracked up to be! Carla got a send off - but she did not get the husband, or a kid. Tracy tells her to go. Carla says we're done and heads to the car. Johnny is about to drive away when a bus swings through the railway arch and blocks the way - Roy is at the front of the bus waving at Carla to stop. Carla smiles.

David, Kylie and Sarah are arguing. Kylie wants to confess, David wants to do a runner and Sarah does not want to be left on her own. David observes that the police will know of 10 or 20 people who wanted Callum dead. But Kylie knows that Sarah cannot hold it together. Kylie believes that if they confess it can be defense. Sarah says that all three of them were meant to be in this together. Kylie calls Sarah a wreck. Sarah thinks she has been through the worst of it. Sarah says she can do it. And then there is another knock at the door. David hides the tickets and tells Sarah to get the door. DS Kerr of Weatherfield Police is looking for Mr and Mrs Platt. Sarah explains she is David's sister. It will be some time before the decomposed body can be identified but they have found a credit card which leads them to suspect that it is the missing Callum Logan. Spectacularly Kylie collapses onto David saying "In our house?" and he catches her. DS Kerr knows they had close links with the dead man and so asks them to stay around to answer questions as this is now a murder investigation. David nods in acknowledgement. Kylie and Sarah are both reflective.

On the Street Roy approaches Carla. He says that she is who she is and she must not lose that. He suggests that if she could learn to love herself as much as everyone else loves her it would be good. He tells her it is a fresh start in calmer waters. She tells him to come and paddle. And she gives him a huge kiss on the lips. He says he will as she gets into the car. Johnny drives them away past the crime scene.

Roll credits.

This episode was brought to you powered by the music emanating from CHBN - a small station based in Cornwall which plays great music every Friday between 12 and 4. Usually I cannot listen to the entire show but today I could; wonderful listening and without the internet I could not hear it. Ranks alongside Cerys on 6 as my favourite wireless listening! If you do not listen to either both are strongly recommended. CHBN had an hour of Beatles song covers whilst I was doing this. Pure luxury.

Still Stuart Blackburn in charge. Carla has gone. What will Tracy do now? What will Nick do now? When is Je_Jo going to ignite? Will Robert sell the Bistro back to Nick - or perhaps to Leanne? Nick and Leanne back on again? Will Roy now accept Cathy's proposal? Who will be Michelle's new bestie? Where was Steve? Where was Rover? These and many other possibilities will no doubt open up over the next few weeks.

And of course we wish Alison King well. May she find work she enjoys and has a great time. And maybe when the time is right she can return to the Street to look after a much older Roy and resume the great partnership with Kym Marsh.

See you next week.

Richard

Monday 30 May

Written by John Kerr Directed by Peter Rose

Gemma has come to the police station. She is not unknown them. She's there to tell them that David Platt killed Callum.

David moves his family into Carla's empty flat. Gail didn't feel like staying with Audrey but would she really be likely to stay in the flat of the woman that broke her Nicky's heart? It's going to be even more of a squish than at the house since there are fewer bedrooms but they will all make do. David picks up one of the abandoned wedding gifts. Gail insists he put it down and can't get over David's apparent cavalier attitude after all that's happened. David snaps that he's trying to figure out what they're going to tell Max.

Cathy arrives at the cafe, home from hospital. She's moving slowly and she's sore but on the mend. Roy is going to head out again but Cathy wants to make a time to talk about *that talk* that they had before she was run over. He makes excuses but says perhaps when he gets back.

Johnny, Aidan and Kate stride down to the factory. Johnny is in a mood which Kate decides is because he already misses Carla. Well yes. In front of the factory, the gossip bubbles over who could have killed Callum. Beth is certain it was David but Fiz is trying to be open minded. The bosses arrive to let everyone in.

Across the road, David is coming out of Dev's with Max and suggesting a film. Kylie thinks that's not a good idea but before they can discuss it further, Callum's mother, Marian and Gemma come across to them. Marian feels terrible for Max and lets the news out that Callum's dead, assuming Max has already been told. Ooops. David sends Max and Kylie off to the cafe. Marian and Gemma both accuse David of killing Callum, of knowing all this time exactly where he was while Marian went out of her mind with worry. She hauls off and slaps him. She swears he's not heard the last of this and leaves, with Gemma behind her after warning David to watch his back. He doesn't look worried.

Baby Harry is sound asleep. Sarah watches him quietly, joined by Gail who looks over her shoulder at the innocent child. Gail admits she fears David was behind what happened to Callum because David hated him and wanted him dead. She even thinks he's capable. She remembers how David was upset when she wanted to pull up the floor to put in heating. The doorbell rings. Gail doesn't want to answer it but Sarah gets up and answers the intercom, buzzing up the police.

Chesney is finally home from Portugal after a rough flight. He's looking forward to spending time with her and making up for all that time away. Aidan comes bouncing over to see Sinead. He's got a job for her if she's up for it. 100 pounds for a couple of hours' work. She is dismayed to find out it's today and turns him down. She and Chesney want to spend the day together and she insists even when he offers her a bit more dosh. He's cool with that.

In the cafe, Kylie and David are explaining to Max that Callum's dead. Max doesn't really feel that sad but asks how he died. David lies and says it was an accident. The police come in and need to talk to them. Anna nips over and scoots Max out of the way. They want both of them to come to the station for questioning. One of them will stay until child care can be arranged but in the meantime, the police officer arrests David and Kylie both on suspicion of murder.

Chesney and Sinead come out. Chesney spies Gemma sitting on the wall in front of Number 8, upset. He heard the news and says he's sorry. She's not sure she's up to being able to work so he offers to go in and help her get settled at work. Gemma agrees. Sinead's face falls.

Sarah is at the police station when David comes in with the officer, Kylie having been taken to an interview room. Turns out Sarah and Gail have also been arrested. In an interview, Gail is telling them that she had no idea where Callum was buried under the floor and wouldn't have stayed in the house had she known. She surmises Callum could have crossed someone in the drug world. At the suggestion that someone closer, say, David, could be responsible, considering their history, Gail insists they've got it wrong. But she can't say with 100% certainty that David couldn't have done it.

In the cafe, Beth is gleeful at the news that David and Kylie were arrested. Gossip too good to miss! She takes the cake box out just as Cathy comes in after having had a lie down. I must say she's got an impressive burst of road rash on the side of her face! Anna tells her she'll fill her in later on what she missed and confirms that Roy hasn't come back yet. Cathy reckons Roy is avoiding her. She tells Anna she proposed but got run over before he really had a chance to reply. Anna assures Cathy that Roy really does care for her.

In David's interview, he explains that Callum came round in September, looking for Max and was told to "do one". He did just that. His flip attitude doesn't impress them. They explain that they now know that Callum died from a head wound on the night that David last saw him. (after 8 months and a decomposing body, how on earth can they tell to the exact date?) David says Callum was angry and on edge that night, surmising that he was on bail and had a run in with a dealer called Denton. David admits he hated Callum and he's glad Callum's dead but it doesn't mean he did it. The detective smugly points out that she didn't say it did. David has been confident, even glib a bit, not nervous at all.

In another room, Sarah is recalling that she was sometimes afraid of Callum which worried her family. They are still gearing the questions towards David. Sarah points out that families look after each other but is then asked how far David would go to look after her?

Chesney is in uniform and in the kebab shop with Gemma. He's hoping to get off to Sinead. Gemma thanks him for the support. They share a laugh just as Sinead comes in. Gemma goes out to make a call. Sinead is a bit sarcastic. Chesney apologizes but Sinead isn't have it. He should have put her first for a change. She leaves and tells him not to bother coming with her.

Johnny is in a mood because he can't get into the payroll file. Carla had password protected it and they can't get hold of her. Kate has popped in and questions whether they have tried to guess since people often use the name of someone they know.

Kylie confirms that she saw Callum leave the house about 9ish. She can't explain how Callum's body was found under the floor wrapped in Max's duvet. She cooly tells him that it was being used as a dust sheet during the building work. The inspector suggests David is responsible but she strongly denies it.

Fiz finds Sinead on the street, looking down about Chesney. She complains that he doesn't want to be with her and is probably going off on her. She thinks he's going to dump her. Fiz denies this, Chesney is crazy about her. Sinead asks her to go get a drink with her.

Roy finally returns to the cafe. Anna asks where he'd been and he owes Cathy an apology. Cathy is upset about him not giving her an answer and for avoiding her. Roy is surprised Cathy confided in Anna. He denies he's been avoiding her, he just needed time to think. Anna declares Cathy is the best thing that's happened to him in ages so it better be the right answer.

Kylie comes out where Gail and Sarah are waiting. David is still being questioned. They confer and realize the David is the main suspect. In his interview, David is wondering how much longer this will take. They are suspicious of his history with Callum and Callum's history with David's family. None of his family believe David could have done it, which mystifies the police officer. The odds are all pointing towards him. David is cool and collected. They wonder how Callum could have got back in the house if nobody else had access. Ah. David says there were indeed people that had access and they happened to have a grudge against Callum as well. Did you hear that? That's the sound of someone dropped in it.

In his interview with the police, David lets slip a few facts about Jason and his less than harmonious relationship with Callum.

Back on the cobbles, Norris asks Phelan if he can look at his roof as he has some loose tiles. When Jason hears Phelan giving Norris short shrift he reminds him that the last thing he needs right now is the local gossip having any more reasons to slag him off.

We move to the kebab shop where Gemma is still in shock over Callum and sharing her memories with Ches. He tells her to go, he'll take care of the shop. Gemma says she hopes he won't be in the doghouse with the missus. Ches assures her that Sinead will be fine.

Which just goes to show how much Ches knows. In reality, Sinead is in the Rovers with Fiz, drowning her sorrows in white wine and lamenting the fact that not only has Ches let her down this evening but last week he was in Portugal picking lemons off a tree.

Over by the bar, Johnny has his laptop out. He can't get hold of Carla and he needs her password so he can access the account and pay everyone's wages. Sinead comes up wanting to buy another bottle of wine. Michelle and Fiz try to persuade her to stick to a glass but Sinead's on a mission to enjoy her evening out and she's now too drunk to care. She makes a suggestion for Carla's password – ALLMENAREUSELESS. Fiz asks if Aidan could help but Johnny tells her he's still at the factory. Hearing this, Sinead hands the bottle of wine to Fiz and announces she won't be a minute.

In the cafe Roy says to Cathy they need to talk so she suggests going for a walk.. While he goes off to change into a clean cardie, Anna has a word with Cathy. Cathy's convinced he's going to dump her but Anna's sure that's not the case.

Phelan goes into the Kabin to have a word with Norris. He apologises for earlier and tells Norris he and Jason could probably have a look at his roof after all. But now Norris isn't so sure he wants Jason going anywhere near it in view of the way Gail's garage conversion collapsed so easily.

The Platts arrive back form the police station. David suggests a drink in the Rovers but Sarah just wants to fetch Harry and put the whole horrible day behind her. Gail goes on ahead and David stops to speak to Kylie about what the police asked her. He casually mentions that it's not as though they were the only people who had a falling out with Callum.

Aidan's going some paperwork in the factory when Sinead comes staggering in. She's very drunk and tells Aidan she's ready to do the modeling now. He tells her it's too late, they had to get someone else in and Sinead promptly burst into tears.

In the Rovers, Gail, David and Kylie are having their drink while over by the bar Michelle is gossiping with Kate and Johnny about Callum's body being found directly under Gail's bed. Kylie reminds David and Gail that they were only questioned because they live in the house but David reckons Gail thinks he's the guilty party. Gail protests she doesn't think that but says of course the police will suspect him the most as he's the only man in the house. She says she told them that he and Callum might have had their differences but there's no way David would have killed him. Kylie swallows hard.

Jason, Todd, Eileen and Phelan are on their way home from the chippy when they see the police knocking on their door. They've come for a word with Jason, a fact that is observed by both Gemma and Sarah who happen to be passing by.

Sarah bursts into the Rovers to tell the family that Jason has just been arrested so now the whole pub knows.

The Platts come rushing out in time to see Jason being taken away by the police. Assuming he's guilty, Gemma comes over and shouts at Jason that she wishes she hadn't slept with him now to which Phelan mutters he'd rather be accused of murder. Eileen puts the Platts straight and tells them Jason hasn't been arrested – he's just helping the police with their enquiries. She and Todd follow Jason to the police station. Sarah tells the family that there's no way Jason could have done it. "Was that down to you?" Kylie asks David. He walks away without replying.

In the factory Aidan's plying Sinead with black coffee. She tells him what a nice man he is and then starts to get maudlin about how unlucky she is with men and life in general. Aidan pulls Sinead to her feet and offers to walk her home. Misreading the signals, Sinead grabs hold of Aidan and kisses him hard on the mouth. "What are you doing?!" exclaims Aidan. Mortified with embarrassment, Sinead rushes out of the factory.

In the Rovers the gossip is still about Callum and now Jason's involvement. "Hashtag Blessed!" exclaims Michelle, suddenly. But she isn't being unsympathetic to Jason's plight, she's worked out Carla's password. Johnny tries it out and, to his huge relief, gets into the account.

Across the room, Gail goes off to the ladies leaving Sarah and Kylie alone with David. Sarah asks David if the police asked him about Jason. Before he has a chance to expand any further Audrey arrives.

Meanwhile in the police station Jason's giving his side of the story while they give him a hard time, citing the details of his marriage to Sarah and his assault – things that David casually mentioned to them earlier. They ask about Jason getting Callum's address from David and going round to see him. He insists nothing happened but it's not looking too good in the eyes of the police.

In the Red Rec, Cathy and Roy are sitting on a bench and having a heart to heart. Cathy is embarrassed about her proposal and asks Roy if they can just forget about it. Roy starts to talk about Hayley. He tells Cathy about their visit to Blackpool and how he'd never paddled until then and Hayley asked him to promise he'd do it again. He adds that it was, of course, a metaphor. Cathy asks if that's why he ran off the day she took him there for his birthday. Roy replies that timing is everything. He says it's two and a half years since Hayley died and that life's too short and they both know that better than anyone. "I think it's time I went paddling again," says Roy and Cathy flings her arms around him.

Sinead is lying on the sofa when Chesney comes home. He announces that he's brought her a kebab to say sorry but seeing she's fast asleep he places it next to her and quietly leaves again. Sinead opens her eyes and looks worried.

Outside Jason arrives home in a taxi with Todd and Eileen. Gary comes along and Jason tells him that David's been trying to pin Callum's murder on him. Gary wonders what it's got to do with him. At that moment the Platts emerge from the Rovers and Jason goes storming across. He lays into David for trying to frame him. Audrey tries to calm things down and Eileen says it's fine by her as long as Gail's psycho of a son doesn't try to lay the blame on Jason. Gail asks why he would do that. "Your guess is as good as mine," replies Eileen, giving her a look.

All this while Norris has been listening from his doorstep. As everyone disperses and Jason walks past he tells him he can forget about doing his roof. Gary tells Jason not to worry about it but Jason knows David's up to something.

David makes an excuse about going back to the salon then pulls Sarah to one side. He asks what's wrong, he thought she could hold it together. But Sarah's now worried about Jason going down for something he didn't do. David points out that if she goes down for it Harry will end up in care. Sarah reminds him she didn't do it but David says, like it or not, they're all in it together. She wants to know what will happen if Jason gets charged. "It's better than if we do, isn't it?" asks David, glancing at Jason who's watching them from across the street.
