Monday 1 June

Written by Simon Crowther Directed by Kay Patrick

Gail sends Michael off to do the shopping, reminding him that the CafCass officer is coming later to assess David and the home environment. When he leaves, Gail takes a phone call from Susan, Michael's ex and Gavin's mother. Turns out she's sent Michael a present. Panic stations! David comes in and Gail asks him to hold the fort, she has to see Andy though she doesn't go into details. She does implore David not to give a parcel to Michael should it be delivered when she's out. She also touches base on if he's seen or heard anything more from Kylie, musing that if she's clean of drugs, it could help his case. He's not seen a dicky bird.

In the hospital, Maddie has survived the weekend. Sally and Sophie keep watch. Sophie comments that she hopes her dad doesn't bring "her" again but Sally admonishes her. There are more important things to worry about.

Mary is interrupted in her flower arranging by Julie who asks her to lay some clothes out for the twins as she rushes out the door.

Gail has come to the Bistro to tell Andy about the latest crisis and we find out that the present is a photo album that Susan has made for Michael, with pictures of Gavin from childhood to just before he left on his travels 6 months ago. Oh 'Eck! Gail is very anxious that Michael doesn't see the parcel.

Yasmeen and Zeedan are in the cafe. The funeral for Kal will be Friday, she tells him. Zeedan declares he wants to run the gym. Norris is in getting some cakes. Alya comes in to see Gary and she's upset about having to work for Carla, who was allegedly drunk and left a candle burning. Gary points out it's too early to know for sure. Norris' ears are perked up and taking all this in. More fuel for his gossiping, you know that!

Gail and Andy cross the cobbles. Gail is wittering about getting hold of Michael to amend the shopping list but he must have his phone turned off. She's also worried about Kylie possibly turning up high just when the CafCass officer is about. Noticing that the corner shop is closed, she sighs, realizing she's got to make a trip to the precinct for what she needs. A police car pulls up as they go their separate ways. They call out for Gavin. Andy stammers a bit until he realizes they only want to talk about his call to 999 to report the fire last week. He ends up taking them to the Bistro.

Back in the hospital, Sophie is looking in the newspaper for flats for she and Maddie while Kevin talks softly to Sally and Jenny watches Maddie. She looks very disturbed does Jenny.

Eileen comes to see if Jason has heard from Tony and bring him a sandwich. She's incredulous when she hears Jason more or less defending his father. It takes two to tango, Jason decides. Jason quotes his old boss Charlie Stubbs as saying there would be no bad men in the world if there were no bad women. (and look where that got him!) He insists there's two sides to every story but Eileen reckons that if Tony were unhappy with Liz, he just should have said so. Jason's maintaining a neutral stance where his father is concerned. Eileen most certainly isn't.

The police have the information they need and leave the Bistro. Steph urges Andy to get to the house in case the post arrives but Michael walks through the door, deflated because he's lost his shopping list. He dares not go home without the shopping! Andy sits Michael down and Steph engages him in conversation to delay him while Andy rushes out.

Andy comes out, waving the police off just as Gail arrives back from the precinct. She panics but Andy assures her it's all in hand while inside the Bistro, Michael is trying to remember what was on the list. Andy and Gail go to the house to find a postal delivery card on the floor. She runs back out again.

Down at Number 7, the kids arrive home. The room is festooned with Welcome Home signs for Dad's imminent arrival. Julie enters and is dismayed to see that Mary has not laid out the specific clothes that Julie had requested earlier. Mary calmly points out that Aadi's shirt is too small and Asha's dress will not be warm enough. Julie asks Mary to make the tea but Mary wants to come with them to meet Dev but Julie turns her down. There won't be enough room with luggage and all. She also asks Mary to leave them alone for the evening so they can share some family time. Mary is crestfallen but agrees, clearly frustrated and annoyed at Julie.

Michael is finishing a coffee and slips out while Steph is busy with a customer. Gail and Andy have taken the courier/postal card into the Kabin which has miraculously gained the Post Office back, I think. (It had disappeared and didn't seem to be reinstated after the tram crash). Norris refuses to give Gail the package because it's not addressed to her. They try to scam Norris, saying Michael is in bed ill which only piques Norris' curiosity as to why it is so important. But try as they might, even Andy trying to wrestle it out of Norris' hands doesn't work. Michael comes in behind them wondering what's going on? Remarkable recovery.

After the break, Michael has brought the package to the house followed by Gail and Andy. When he wonders what it is, Gail pretends it's a catalogue she ordered which makes no sense since it's addressed to Michael. She spins a big story about being blacklisted at the company. Michael doesn't believe her and realizes that the hand that wrote the label looks familiar. Gavin is sent for the scissors and pretends he can't find them. Gail picks up the package when Michael goes into the kitchen but Bethany arrives home from school so she can't make her getaway. Bethany picks it out of Gail's hands and passes it to Gavin.

Eileen's not a lot of comfort to Liz while trying to assure her she's had a lucky escape. Liz feels humiliated and thinks she might be done with men. Eileen knows that she'll change her mind in time. Liz also insists that Tony might be a partner in the pub but he's definitely going to be a sleeping partner. No involvement at all, if she has any say about it.

Michael has opened a note and says the package is from Susan, his ex wife and reads that the package is about Gavin and his life. Michael is excited while Andy is dreading it. Michael grabs Andy to sit beside him to look through the photos while Gail pales behind them, waiting for the inevitable. Andy tries to delay him by confessing something. Bethany interrupts and Gail tries to use that as a delay tactic. Andy then tries to tell the truth but bottles it and confesses that he used to smoke. There might be pictures of him smoking, apparently but Michael doesn't think that's such a big deal. Let's get on with it. Michael opens the album to Gavin's baby pictures.

Jenny has a holdall and is calling a cab and says she's going to Hull but the dispatcher doesn't seem to understand English very well from the way the conversation is going. She's trying to book for an adult and a child.

The album pages turn. Michael is enjoying this. We're still seeing pictures of a small boy, probably from just before Michael left. Another page, we're up to age 6 or 7.

Dev comes in the house to find Mary. He is quiet and subdued, having heard the devastating news about Kal. (He looks very thin, too) Julie asks Mary to make a cup of tea but she sits down with Dev instead. She and Julie start bickering over his head and it descends into insults. Dev shouts at them to shut up.

Sophie is sarcastic to her father about Jenny leaving in a hurry. Sophie starts talking about a flat but bells and alarms start going off. Kevin jumps and shouts for someone to get a nurse and Sophie starts to panic.

12 years old. Michael is picking up that the man sitting beside him sure has changed a lot from that age. Erm... Gail tries to compare things, David looks completely unrecognizable from the boy he was at 12 (big lie, if you will remember, David looks pretty much the same). She shows him a photo but Michael rightly points out that it looks exactly like David. (I was hoping she'd show him a picture of Nick. That was several actors ago!) More pages turned and it's becoming more evident. Now there's a head shot of the man we know as Gavin. Michael recognizes him straight away and asks which one is not his son. Andy shamefully admits it's him as the credits roll.

"My real name is Andy." and Andy haltingly begins to confess, admitting he's been wanting to tell the truth but had no idea where to start. "Try!" spits Michael.

The crash team work on starting Maddie's heart. The Websters are gathered outside the room, looking through the open blinds, hoping, praying. It is no use. The doctors are not able to start Maddie's heart again. Sophie starts to scream and howl, unable to accept it. Kevin holds her close.

Andy explains it was a bit of a joke at first. He'd fallen out with Gavin and it was a way to get back at him, and financially, it might be advantageous. But Andy says he ended up loving Michael and it all got out of hand. Michael remembers meeting the real Gavin and how Gavin took pleasure in letting Michael know he hated him. Andy further explains he was worried about Michael's heart and when Gail chimes in to agree, Michael realizes she knew as well and didn't tell him.

Sophie tells the doctor that Maddie had a donor's card and the doctor thanks her and leaves them alone. Sophie asks for some time by herself so Kevin and Sally retreat. Sophie tearfully talks to Maddie, assures her she's trying to keep herself together so Maddie won't get embarassed. She leans in and kisses her love on the forehead.

Gail tries to defend herself. Michael's working himself into a bloody good rage now. How could Gail marry him knowing the truth? "Because I love you" is a bit feeble in Michael's eyes. Michael points out he's still alive despite the shock.

Dev steps between Julie and Mary who admit they've had some disagreements but never in front of the children. Dev decides he must go to pay his respects to the Nazirs. After he leaves, Julie wonders if Dev is distracted but Mary suggests he's taken Kal's death badly. Julie is satisfied with that. But is there another reason? Julie and Mary exchange apologies. Julie goes upstairs to start the children on their homework and Mary picks up Dev's ringing mobile. She takes a call from a woman named Talisa.

Bethany catches up with David and Audrey just as the Cafcass agent pulls up in her car. She gets out and they shake hands when introduced around. David leads them inside where a battle is raging. Michael snaps at Andy who's just called him "Dad". When everyone else comes in, the Cafcass officer quickly realizes she's surplus to requirements and backs out. Michael assumes everyone knows but Audrey and Bethany have no clue. Gail tells David they had to come clean so Michael is further upset to find out David knew too. Gail quietly says that Steph and Luke knew as well. Audrey and Bethany still have no idea what's going on. Michael rounds on Gail. Who's going to tell them, you or me?

Jenny comes hurrying out of Number 13 to find Tim about to knock on the door. He realizes she hasn't heard about Maddie and tells her. Jenny's face freezes in shock. Tim, clearly gutted, remarks that life isn't fair. Jenny softly agrees. She glances over her shoulder (at the Kabin? It was in that general direction) for a pause and turns back to go inside again.

At the hospital, Kevin, Sally and Sophie are sitting in the chapel. Sophie recalls that Maddie could deal with all the bad stuff in her life but didn't know how to be happy. It took her a long time to relax and believe she could be.

In Platt/Rodwell towers, the truth is out. Audrey is angry at Gail and Andy but Gail doesn't want a lecture. Bethany asks if the real Gavin knows about all this, too. David realizes that Michael doesn't know the rest of it. Everyone goes quiet. Gail slowly tells him that Gavin died in a traffic accident. Michael's just lost his son twice in one day. Michael is incredulous that they kept it all from them. Gail takes all the responsibility, insisting she loves him. It's falling on deaf ears. Audrey insists that Bethany and David come with him to her home to leave them to talk on their own. After they leave, Michael sinks into the sofa. Andy implores Michael to understand that he really did learn to look at him as his father. Michael has nothing but contempt for Andy.

Dev has been across the street, and is just getting ready to leave, telling Yasmeen to pass on his condolences to Sharif when he returns. Alya has let Leanne in. Leanne greets Dev who tells her he's sorry about Kal. He takes his leave, offering his services if they should need anything. Leanne has come to find out about the funeral arrangements. Zeedan comes downstairs and seems much less angry towards her than the last time we saw him. Leanne tells Yasmeen that Simon is taking things badly.

Sophie is curled up in her father's arms. Sally lets Jenny in. Tim has been trying to contact Maddie's mother. Kevin is glad Jenny's there.

Yasmeen is lending Leanne a light coloured wrap or shawl or sweater, can't really tell what. Alya, Yasmeen and even Zeedan assure Leanne that they don't blame her at all for Kal's death. Leanne goes over and over the night in her head and wondered if things could have been different. If they had, Yasmeen tells her, more people probably would have died. Alya speaks up and asks Leanne if her father had had a chance to propose. Leanne says he did, more or less. Alya and Zeedan are both glad Leanne had said yes just before Kal died. Yasmeen goes to the side table and brings out a small box. It's the engagement ring that was found on Kal's body. She gives it to Leanne who puts it on. Fits perfectly. They all accept her as part of the family. Zeedan even lays a hand on her shoulder so apparently he's managed to get past his initial shock and anger when he blamed Leanne last week. That's good.

Michael is at the table and making his way through a bottle of whiskey. Gail worries about his heart. Michael is sarcastic. He doesn't accept that she did it all for him. He doesn't feel very grateful at the moment. He looks at Gavin's photo and remembers him as a child. Maybe he could have talked to the adult Gavin, changed his mind about his father. Gail tells him that Gavin was blackmailing them and she paid him 5000 pounds. Michael has no sympathy for her. "At least he despised me. What's your excuse?" he hisses, then shouts at her at the top of his voice the same phrase, making her jump.

At the Websters', Sophie tells them that Maddie's mother is a waste of space. Tim promises they'll all make the arrangements in that case. Sophie asks if she can stay there tonight. She hugs her parents and tells them that Maddie really liked them all. She worries about Jack but Jenny says they'll look after it and says Sophie will be in her prayers. Sophie gives her one of those little looks that convey skepticism but no anger at the moment. She turns and goes upstairs. They all agree they'll do what they can for her.

Dev is picking at a plate of food. Julie wants to go to the Bistro while Mary observes them while sipping wine, her meal finished. Dev doesn't want to go out. Julie goes into the kitchen to start the washing up seeing as Mary cooked. When she leaves, Mary mentions the phone call from Talisa whom Dev admits to meeting in India. She worked for the charity. Mary states that Julie has dedicated her last four months to looking after his children and business for him. Dev catches her meaning and promises that this Talisa is just a friend. Mary is satisfied. For now.

Jenny and Kevin make their way down the street. Jenny suggests she take Jack away for a few days to leave Kevin to focus on Sophie. Kevin admits he'd rather have Jenny around to help him stay strong for his daughter. Jenny's face? "Foiled again!"

Michael grabs the photo album and is on his way out the door. Gail wants him to calm down so offers to go to her mother's for a few days so he can have some time on his own and they can talk again later. Michael is adamant. This can't be fixed. Gail presumes he still loves her and they can salvage this. Michael looks around the house, recalling how they met. His voice is filled with hate when he hisses that she stole everything from her. Gail tries to insist he still has her and a home. No, he doesn't. He laughs that it isn't a home, it's just some place he tried to rob and he wishes she had never forgiven him and he wishes she hated him as much then as he hates her now. And with that cutting remark he leaves.

Wednesday 3 June

It's early morning, and Eileen discovers Michael sleeping in a Streetcars cab, and looking rather the worse for wear. She knocks on the window. "What's happened to you?" she asks.

Over at the Platt's, Nick is fuming over the Gavin/Andy deception, while a worried Gail is trying to phone Michael. Nick remarks that she can't blame him for leaving and David comments that it totally messed up his meeting yesterday. Gail tells them to give it rest, she's sure the social services won't make a decision based on one family argument.

Just then Callum and Sarah arrive to pick up Max. David hands over his school lunch box and his overnight bag and tells them he comes out of school at 3.30 sharp. When they've gone, David tells Gail and Nick that he's going to skip work and go looking for Kylie. Nick offers to help – someone's got to stop David doing anything crazy.

Michael comes downstairs at Eileen's house, drying his hair. Eileen wants to know all the gory details, he doesn't get a free breakfast and use of the bathroom for nothing! Michael tells her and Todd that he and Gail are finished. "Again?" says Eileen. Michael assures her there will be no going back this time. Todd assumes he's been turfed out because of another woman. "Who says I was turfed out?" asks Michael. "You mean you walked?" asks Todd. "Don't tell me she's carrying on with another bloke already!" says Eileen. "No!" says Michael. They then want to know why he didn't sleep at Gavin's. Michael doesn't want to answer any questions, he appreciates the hospitality but....

Over at Kevin's, Jenny is aghast to learn that Kevin is taking Jack to his Auntie Pam's for the day, and starts to protest that she could take him out for the day. However, before she can say anything else, Rita arrives to see Sophie and Kevin leaves with Jack. While Jenny goes out to the kitchen to make coffee, Rita sits down and tells Sophie that she and Norris are thinking of her, they both had a lot of time for Maddie. Sophie tearfully tells Rita that she stayed at her mum's last night, she doesn't want to be in her own room without Maddie.

As Eileen and Michael step out of the front door, Gail is coming across the cobbles. "Michael!" she calls, but Michael mutters, "I'm off!" and hurries away. Eileen tells Gail how she found him in the car earlier and gave him breakfast. Gail says she'll talk to him at work. Eileen tells her to give it a while, Michael has gone off to visit somewhere first, but she doesn't know where. She tells Gail that Michael hasn't told her anything, except that the two of them have split up. Gail just turns and walks away.

As Rita leaves the house she turns to Jenny and tells her she may need to step up to the plate now, to be the strength the family needs and prove all the doubters wrong.

Carla is in the cafe getting coffee when Sophie comes in behind her. They then have a very strained and difficult conversation, Carla tells her how sorry she is about Maddie, and Sophie replies that she's not half as sorry as she is. She goes on to say that the best thing in her life has gone because of Carla, but maybe she should be offering her sympathy, because Carla is the one with the life sentence.

David and Nick arrive at a block of flats in a very dodgy looking area. David wants to see Gemma, one of Kylie's mates. They knock at the door but there's no answer so they leave.

Beth gets a call from Craig's form teachers, telling her that Craig keeps falling asleep in his revision classes. Beth thinks it must be Craig's rat spinning in it's wheel all night, keeping him awake. Sinead wonders if he's worrying about something, but Beth dismisses that idea.

Sophie is at home, playing back all the messages Maddie had left on her phone. Then she finds a new message, one she hadn't played before. In an anxious voice, Maddie says, "Sophie, it's Jenny, you were right, I've just....." and then it cuts out. Puzzled, Sophie plays it again. She's pondering on it when Jenny comes in the front door and asks if Kevin is back yet. "No," murmurs Sophie, but gives Jenny a quizzical look.

In the cafe, Todd tells Eileen he never thought he'd be interested in Gail's love life, but he wishes they would patch things up so that Michael will move out, the house is full enough as it is. Eileen says that Michael was a man of mystery earlier, and Todd says that seems to be the type she's going for these days, and asks if there's any news of Geoff from Dubai? "Let's just say I'm holding more than one ace in my hand," she replies. Just then Adrian comes in and asks if she'd like dinner at the bistro later. She makes a few funny quips and then accepts, he kisses her and says he'll go and book a table. Just then Julie and Dev come in, Julie's all happy and says they are off to the bistro for dinner later, to celebrate Dev's homecoming. Julie tells her that she and Adrian are going there too. "Join us if you like," says Dev. Julie doesn't look too enthusiastic about this, and Eileen tries to refuse, saying they don't want to intrude, but Dev persists, saying it will be nice. Eventually Eileen agrees.

Kevin is back home, being asked by Jenny if Jack was all right being left with Pam. Kevin assures her that he was. Then Sophie tells them both about the strange voicemail message from Maddie on the night of the fire. Then she plays it to them. "What does she mean by that?" asks Kevin. "You tell me," says Sophie, staring straight at Jenny, "did you see her that night?" Jenny shakes her head, "No," she says, and goes on to deny speaking to Maddie at all that night, saying that she was in the bath at the time. Then she gets really shirty, she says that the message could have meant anything and she's tired of being the wicked witch. Did Maddie have x-ray vision? She didn't see her, but maybe Maddie could see through brick walls and saw her at her cauldron casting spells? Kevin then tries to calm the whole situation down, but Jenny says she's sick of the constant insinuation, Maddie could have meant anything. Sophie wonders why she sounded so panicked, but Jenny reminds her that there was fire going on. Kevin tells Sophie there is nothing to be gained by raking over it again, Sophie must put it behind her.

Nazir tells Zeedan he doesn't have to go into the gym, but Zeedan says he does. Just then Leanne comes along, she's been going through Kal's things and she's brought his medals. She gives them to Nazir, she thought he should have them. "He really loved you, you know," she tells Zeedan. He nods and goes on into the gym.

Gail finds Michael in the pub and tells him she's been looking for him all day. "Eileen said you had somewhere to visit?" she says. He tells her that at least Andy had the decency to tell him where his son is buried. She tells him that she's been through hell and back this last few weeks. "Oh, there's always someone worse off than yourself," says Michael, sarcastically. Gail starts to tell him that she felt awful when Susan told her she wanted to make amends and she had to lie to her...... Michael sits up. "You met Susan? When?" Gail hesitates and then tells him it was at Gavin's funeral. Michael is horrified. "You went to the funeral and you didn't tell me?" Gail starts to mumble that they were too far in, and he had his operation coming up. "And she wanted to make her peace with me," he says, shattered. He stares down at the table for several moments. Then looks her in the eyes. "Is there anything else I should know?" Gail shakes her head. "Absolutely not." Michael gets up from the table. "I didn't get to say goodbye, and all because of you." He walks away, telling her not to come after him.

Craig arrives home from school and Beth tells him how his form tutor called and told her about him falling asleep. He admits he might have dozed off once or twice. Beth wants to know why. Isn't he getting enough sleep? He says he is, but she thinks he can't be. She wants to know if he's worried about anything, but he says he isn't, so Beth then decides to make him an appointment at the doctors.

In the bistro, Dev, Julie, Eileen and Adrian are sitting round a table enjoying their meal together. Dev talks a bit about his time in India, it was a spiritual awakening he says. Eileen gets up to go to the ladies, and Julie tells Adrian that she's never seen Eileen so happy, since she met him she's like a different person. Adrian then reveals that he's booked them into a swish hotel for tomorrow night, it's going to be a surprise.

Jenny arrives back at Kevin's and wants to know where Jack is. He tells her that as he was having such a good time he's allowed him to stay with Pam for a few days. She's crestfallen, but tries to hide it. Kevin then goes off out. As soon as he's gone, Jenny picks up the phone and makes a call. She tells the person on the other end that she's Melanie Davies, and starts to talk about a flat. "What? Taken?" she says, and seems very upset. Then she tells them to email details of anything else they've got, and hangs up. Sobbing, she shoves the chair around the kitchen.

David and Nick have gone back to the flat they were at earlier. David hammers on the door and eventually Gemma opens it. She tells them that she hasn't seen Kylie in months and she doesn't know where Kylie is. She slams the door and they walk away.

Inside the flat, she walks into the living room where Kylie has been all along, and tells her that David is going to keep coming back, and if Callum finds out she's been putting Kylie up he'll kill her. Kylie promises to be gone soon. "Back to David?" asks Gemma. Kylie doesn't answer. "You can't keep running," says Gemma. Kylie admits that she knows that, but she'll think of something.

Friday 5 June

Eileen's day starts with Michael in a Christmas jumper. I think it's because all his clothes are over at Gail's. He plans on going over there later and seems completely unrepentant that there was no hot water left for Jason, who is seeing the insurers later about the yard. Sean asks whether Eileen's seeing Adrian tonight and she tells him to keep his beak out.

Leanne takes some food over to the Nazir family and Yasmeen tells her she's to go to the funeral in the cars with the family.

When Julie meets Eileen and Todd in the street she's agonising over what the right thing is to wear to Kal's funeral. Eileen's a bit tetchy and once she's out of earshot, Todd tells Julie it's because she's not heard from Adrian at all. Julie reveals that it's because Adrian's planning a surprise for Eileen - a trip away. He's sorting it out this morning before he tells her about it. She says Adrian's fallen head over heels for Julie.

Another one who is tetchy today is Simon. He's with Ken and Leanne and doesn't see why he'll have to sit separately from Leanne at the mosque. Nick's busy telling Carla all about Gavandy and Gail and the changed national insurance details. He greets Simon on the way past and Simon's rude. Leanne is furious.

Mary and Julie talk about what they'd like for their own funerals. Mary doesn't want a cremation because she gets prickly heat. Julie can't be doing with a coffin because she's a bit claustrophobic. Mary tells her about sky burials, where the body is left for the birds to pick the bones clean [If you want to know about recent problems with this tradition, search on Diclofenac, vultures and Parsees]. Dev is in white and seems very mournful.

Steph and Andy are in the cafe discussing their problems. David comes in to talk to them. Nick wants to see them both later. Andy's annoyed that Steph isn't more worried about how Michael feels in all this.

In the taxi office, Eileen, Andrea and Michael talk about Kal. Michael rejects a phone call from "Gavin." He goes out to clean the car before the funeral. Eileen keeps checking her phone but there's no word from Adrian. She cheers up, though, when she gets a message from the Dubai man that says he's flying into Manchester later today and would like to meet her for a drink.

Beth's taken Craig to the doctor - she demanded an MRI scan but the doctor said Craig just needed more sleep. Beth thinks he's at the rebellious stage.

The Nazir family comes out to go to the funeral. Carla sees them and flees. Leanne doesn't think she can do this. "We were supposed to be getting married. How can he be gone?" Alya and Yasmeen comfort her. Everyone gets into the cars.

As the men take off their shoes before entering the mosque, Ken admits that part of him is fascinated to attend a Muslim funeral. Sharif tells Gary how well Zeedan coped with helping wash Kal's body and that Zeedan, who is outside, feels he has let down his father somehow.

Nick asks Andy and Steph why he shouldn't sack both of them. Steph says every time they tried to tell Michael he would keel over. Nick says he'll think about how to deal with them.

Upstairs in the mosque, the women stand silently, tears streaming down their cheeks, as prayers are said.

Eileen worries about what to wear to meet Jeff. Jason points out that she's supposed to be dating Adrian but Eileen's still annoyed she's not heard from him. She claims she's not doing anything wrong. Todd says he thought she's deleted Jeff from her contacts. The phone goes - of course, it's Adrian. Todd says she should say she's ill. Sean says she should tell the truth. Eileen takes the phone.

Craig has said he's going to see Fay but when Beth and Kirk meet her in the street she says they had no plans to get together. They realise Craig lied. There's no answer to his phone, which goes straight to voicemail.

Eileen's dressed up and ready to meet Jeff, though Jason worries that he might turn out to be dangerous. They come up with a scheme which means Jason and Sean will sit at the bar and pretend to be on a date together so they can keep an eye on Eileen. Eileen gets a text from Jeff saying he'll be wearing a red shirt and will have apple martinis at the ready. Though Jason fears Eileen's will be drugged.

Julie and Dev are back from the funeral. Mary witters on about the need to seize the day. Dev says she's right. He asks Julie to go with him to the bistro tonight so they can talk about their future. Of course, Julie thinks this means a proposal.

At the wake, Ken talks about the pain of losing a child - after all, he lost Susan. Sharif tells him they're worried about Zeedan. Yasmeen and Leanne chat and Yasmeen hopes Leanne will consider herself part of the family. Zeedan asks Alya how she's managing to keep it together. She says it's all on the surface. He's having trouble keeping in his anger at Carla.

Eileen and the boys head for the bistro. Inside, David is at the bar, Dev and Julie are at a table. Nick tells David that Steph is a brilliant worker. Dev and Julie refuse food - they're just here for a drink. Julie refuses wine. She wants to keep a clear head.

Sean and Jason settle at the bar. But what's this? Adrian arrives. It's clear Todd has invited him. Eileen appears to panic.

More later.

The end.

Time to bring another week on the Street to a conclusion. This is episode 8655; series 57, episode 111 - a Nelson. It was written by Jan McVerry and directed by Kay Patrick; copyright remains the property of ITV to whom many thanks.

In the Bistro Todd is with Adrian and Eileen as he heads towards the latest of his revenges actions on those people he blamed for his lifetime scar on his pretty face.

Also dining together are Dev and Julie, probably one of the more unlikely soap pairings. She knows that Eileen is expecting to meet her foreign internet contact and can see the impending car crash. She observes that if you cheat on your loved ones you should see what happens. Dev gives her a curious look.

Meanwhile Todd knows that Adrian has a surprise for Eileen. He has arranged time away in the Forest of Bowland at a boutique B&B. This weekend, departing now.

At the wake Ken is praising Kal saving Amy who will now live to see 12 to a group of former soldiers. They all agree he was always the coolest head. Sharif saw how well he helped Amy - as a father not a sergeant. Ken says he is an old man but if he could he would have traded places to give Kal a few more years; Kal had had a very positive influence on Simon. Ken should be consoling Sharif who responds that he likes hearing talking about Kal and not just in hallowed tones. As the soldiers will tell he could be a clown and clumsy with two left feet and sometimes two left hands adds Gary. Ken adds that his family is forever in Sharif's debt. If there is anything they need - anything. Roy has observed that there seems to be a surplus of food hiding under the table but those army boys will soon eat it all up. Yasmeen wants them to feel at home. Roy hands Yasmeen an envelope he was asked to give her asks if they are taking donations. Zeedan takes an interest. The card is from Carla and contains a large cheque. Zeedan says that if she can do that she is not showing proper respect. Zeedan hands back the card to Roy saying that Yasmeen is upset enough.

Seems that Eileen is not struck by the idea of going away. But Adrian reckons they can be there in an hour. Todd reckons that if she does not pack a nightie they can be there even quicker.

Zeedan is sat in the sun on the wall when Alya joins him. He is still ranting about Carla who probably never really talked to Kal - just used the gym. She has no idea what the family has lost - but Alya points out Carla has suffered losses; in which case Zeedan says she should know better. Alya says she is not giving up her job; Zeedan can hardly believe her. Alya says she is going to use Carla and make every contact she can, make every penny, milk the factory; then bin her off and setup on her own. Zeedan thinks that Carla will buy Alya off and that she is kidding herself. People like Carla always win.

Sean is trying to work out what is happening with Eileen, Adrian and Todd. However he cannot lip read.

In the Street Zeedan has a lump of concrete and is contemplating bashing Carla's car when she emerges from the factory and tells him to do his worst. It will not bring Kal back. Or Maddie. But if it makes him feel better ... then do it. Alya arrives and tells him that Carla is not worth it. [Blinkin' Nora EastEnders arrives on the Street]. He drops the lump and agrees she is not. He has kept the cheque and throws it back at her. She says she thought about flowers but ... Zeedan says she can sign cheques as she likes - but not in Kal's name. Alya leads him away.

In the garden the grieving parents come together. They made life difficult for their son, pushing him harder, further, faster, higher; they set the bar high. They made him the man he was - a leader and a hero. There were ten other men outside the flats that night - but only Kal was brave enough to run into the burning building. If they had let Kal be more ordinary he might still be with them.

Adrian is sensing he has overstepped the mark given the lack of gratitude emanating from Eileen. He says that Julie thought it was a good idea and then Todd agreed this afternoon by phone so Eileen twigs that Todd was in on the whole thing and her mood changes and she agrees they should do it - she will be back in five minutes. Todd stops her saying she has forgotten that she has had a better offer - after all would she get her hair done for a bloke like you he says to Adrian. Todd goes on to say she likes the corny texts. But he does not really get Eileen. Todd continues - she has met Jeff online. Todd then starts laying it on thick about how rich Jeff is and how Eileen has never had five star treatment and suddenly Michael Buble appears, rather than a Jimmy Nail. Eileen tries to stop him. Todd says Adrian is probably the best bloke she has ever had a chance with in her life. Decent, generous, and handsome. He could have changed Eileen's life. Her taupe-coloured, bargain basement boring little life. And then Todd observing their joint discomfiture suggests it is getting hot in the Bistro and starts undoing his black shirt to reveal a bright red t shirt underneath. His martini cocktail arrives. And Eileen realises that Todd was Jeff all along. She is stunned and we go into the break.

We resume in the Bistro where Todd is congratulated by Eileen on his spectacular performance. Adrian has got the gist of it all - apparently Jeff came from a catalogue. He settles the bill for wine and departs refusing to pay for the martini. He knows he is a dim star in the Universe but know sick when he sees it and that he got off lightly. Eileen tries to stop him saying he has been an innocent victim of jealous and twisted Todd. Adrian wants to know who made him that way? Observing it is a lucky escape Adrian departs.

On the other side of the Bistro Dev departs and whilst Julie wants to talk about their future he does not and goes leaving her behind.

Gary, Leanne and Ken leave the wake with the first two carrying huge quantities of food. Ken just wants a cup of tea and bed as it has been a long day. Leanne thanks Gary and asks him to thank Roy as they have both played a blinder. He goes and Ken says to Leanne that she got through it. Now it is time for living. Leanne however had a wedding to plan, a family and a future and now it is all gone. She sighs - but as Ken points out she still has Simon plus Deirdre (sob, sob) and himself. And she has her resourcefulness and resilience. It has stood her strong in the past.

Julie, Sean, Jason, Todd and Eileen stand in a circle with the recriminations being thrown around. Steph wants to know how everyone is doing! Todd tells Eileen that she was such an easy target. How she would love a simpler life with country walks and roaring log fires. A country cottage and a chocolate Labrador and a loving man to cuddle he replays. Todd says she would break out in hives if more than ten miles from the Arndale (a shopping centre). And Todd knows all about her dreams because she has spilled them all to Jeff. And she used her saucy jokes and her pathetic fantasies. And Todd keeps plunging the knife in. Then he turns on Jason saying that they have had this coming to them, both of them. Did they seriously believe that he would forgive and forget? He sat there like a saddo with a bottle on ice whilst they left him hanging. Even if he wanted to forget he cannot - because every time he looks in the mirror there is a permanent reminder. They are all two-faced, spineless sheep. Jason cannot understand why Eileen was under attack - she is Todd's only supporter. Julie chimes in but before she knows it Todd launches a personal attack on her as well. Then he turns on Jason calling him dumb. And now Todd reveals his mastery in splitting up Jason and Eva as his punishment and how easy it was to get Jason to believe that Eva and Tony were carrying on.

Beth (not Bethany, apologies for causing any confusion over this) tells Kirk that Craig has been sleepwalking. It explains why he is so tired. The two of them will sit up and watch what Craig gets up to. She has her book to read.

Back in the Bistro Todd is recounting the events which led to Jason's split with Eva (who is due back on set in July and so should be back with us by September; and frankly I hope back with Jason by Christmas - it is a nice pairing and it could be a very great long term marriage if handled properly). He even admits that planting Eva's phone at the hotel reception was a stroke of genius. And Jason recalls how Todd talked him out of talking to Eva. Even Todd reckons they are perfect for each other. Good looks and the right level of dumb - a match made in heaven. Pity she is thousands of miles away and never coming back. Finally Jason snaps and hits Todd. They all depart except Todd who is nursing his jaw.

Strange goings on. Beth has her eyes covered and Kirk is in the kitchen, no ice cream, no honey. We see Craig creep downstairs and leave the house wearing his back pack. Kirk says they have got mayonnaise. And Beth says to use it if it is the best he can do.

By the time they get to Eileen's Todd has caught up and pushes his way inside. Eileen tells Julie and Sean that she does not want to wash her dirty laundry in public this time and shuts the door on them.

Jason is still arguing with Todd. Todd reckons Sean is more of a brother / son than he is. He has always been too bright, sensitive and too ambitious. They pushed him away. Todd calls them both losers and they are welcome to each other. Eileen is simply in a state of shock.

Zeedan and Alya are now grieving for Kal. Excuse me if I do not join in; I never did quite get the character or the portrayal; indeed I have struggled with the entire Nazir family. Alya seemed hugely out of place initially although she has become more settled; similarly Sharif. I know Zeedan can and will do it but Yasmeen still does not seem to fit. Zeedan knows he has been difficult and never had the chance to show Kal through work or the gym or with his own family to show what he was capable of being and doing. All Kal heard was his son having a go - over joining the army, letting down their mother and for choosing Leanne. Simon thought Kal was great. But Zeedan never told his father. Alya seeks to reassure him that Kal knew.

Todd is going and tells Sean and Julie that in a week's time they will both be bored. And he will not be around to keep life juicy. Julie tells him he is going to die a very sad and lonely old man. But at least he will have lived first he shouts back at them.

Jason seeks to comfort Eileen. She has had a note from Michael who is working late and tells her not to wait up. Both are emotionally worn out and Jason heads for bed. Eileen opens the computer to look again at correspondence with Jeff and then closing the app the screen background is Todd and Jason much younger and happier. She dissolves in tears and slams the laptop closed.

Which means it is time to roll credits. See you next week.

Eileen is still reeling after Todd's betrayal and gets a sympathetic hug from Michael.

Alya comes in to work and apologizes to Carla for Zeedan kicking off. Leanne comes over and asks if Alya wants to help her clear out Kal's things and Carla offers Alya the afternoon off if she would like. Leanne completely blanks Carla who then goes off to get coffee for them.

Eileen fills in Michael on the whole sad affair. Michael is shocked. Eileen is still in tears over it all. Michael suggests that Todd's tortured soul is to blame. Eileen recollects Todd as being a lovely mummy's boy. She further tells Michael that Todd broke up Jason and Eva. Michael makes a cryptic remark about people pretending to be others.

In the pub, Sean has done some early time making a batch of hotpots. Liz has a legal document drawn up that would make Tony a sleeping partner if and when he shows up. She knows he's going to show up eventually, coming crawling back and she'll be waiting for him.

Michael comes out of Number 11. Steph sees him and tries to implore Michael to accept her apology but he's having none of it. Nothing she says appeases him and he shouts at her with all the anger he's got.

Sophie replays Maddie's message. She still doesn't understand it. Jenny brushes off Sophie's questions until she snaps back at her a bit. She repeats her story that she never spoke to Maddie. Kevin comes in to remind Sophie that they have to see the funeral directory and Jenny over compensates with lots of questions about how she could help. Kevin settles her down and takes Sophie out.

In the Bistro, Andy has arrived for work. It's his birthday and Steph has a cupcake with candle for him. Andy tells him that Nick is letting him keep the job since they're short staffed. Gail comes out from the back and, seeing them hugging, launches into another moan about her life being in tatters, laying most of the blame at Andy's feet. Steph tells Gail that she saw Michael and he looked terrible.

Leanne finds Kal's watch and hands it to Zeedan, thinking he might like to have it. The doorbell rings and Leanne asks Simon to get it. He's clearly in a snarly mood and reluctantly goes to answer the door, glaring at Leanne the whole time. It's Alya who's been given the rest of the day off. Leanne has found a valentine card she'd given Kal and is a bit weepy. Leanne asks Simon to get something else and he refuses before kicking off and going into his bedroom. They all make excuses for Simon.

Eileen leaves a message for Adrian, hoping he'll let her explain. There's a knock on the door. It's not Adrian, it's Gail coming to look for Michael. She decides to make herself at home and wait as Michael's out.

Jason sees Todd cross the street to go to work. He's not happy about it and starts shouting at Todd across the road.

Leanne apologizes for Simon's behaviour and talks about how she was looking forward to being part of their family. Not that she was trying to replace their mother of course. Simon comes and, having heard that, snaps at her "Like you did with mine?" i.e. replace his mother. She starts to say something but he hisses "Do one, Leanne" and storms out.

Gail is having a cup of tea at Eileen's and looking around the room being very snidey about Eileen's photo collage and her choice in brand of tea. Eileen tells her she and Michael need to sort things out. Michael comes back just then. He's been to see his ex-wife, Susan and he's not happy to see Gail. He turns around and goes back out again.

Outside, Simon and Amy are bouncing a ball. Simon throws it against Dev's shop window causing Dev to come out and complain. Simon just shrugs. He and Amy part ways as Michael exits the shop with a large bottle of what looks like whisky under his arm.

In the shop, Carla has a basket of goods but when Sophie comes back, Carla leaves. Sophie talks to Dev about all that's involved in trying to plan a funeral when she doesn't really know what Maddie would want. Kevin comes in to find out what Sophie wants for the food at the wake. Sophie can't even focus on that at the moment. Dev and Kevin agree it's a tough thing to go through.

In the Bistro, Kirk, Maria and Gail are sitting at the bar when Eileen comes in. She was looking for Michael. Maria says she saw him at the bus stop. Erica is eating at a table and interjects a few comments. They notice that Gail seems a bit off but Gail insists she's fine. Never better. At that, Michael comes stumbling into the Bistro, very drunk. Andy tries to help him but Michael isn't amenable to it. Erica refers to Andy as his son and Michael insists he doesn't have one and decides to tell the truth, the whole truth.

Jason is in the bar and is trying to persuade Sean to call Eva because she's not taking his calls. Todd comes in and makes some very mean remarks about Eva's level of intelligence and Jason's. Todd realizes he's not going to get served and leaves.

Michael tells everyone the truth about Andy, who he is and that his son, Gavin, is dead. Everyone but Nick, Steph and Gail, of course, are shocked. In the course of the rant, Maria finds out that Luke knew about it. Gail confirms that it's all true. Eileen is annoyed that she felt sorry for Gail but no more, not after hearing all this. She gathers Michael up and leads him home.

Simon comes home. Leanne orders her to dry the dishes and they argue and Simon ends up losing his temper. He picks up the tv remote and throws it at her, hard, and it hits her in the face.

Eileen feeds Michael coffee and agrees that Gail, Steph and Andy should be ashamed of themselves. Michael and Eileen have a wry laugh at them being on the short end of bad deals. Eileen laughs about Gail pouncing on the man that broke into her house. "that is So Gail!" she chuckles. The two of them, one drunk and one not, share a few laughs. Michael tells Eileen she's lovely and will soon find a fella. The next thing you know he's leaning in and they start to kiss!!!

There will be another update from me along shortly.

Michael and Eileen are getting things on and it's getting heated while Gail is standing outside. Only Michael starts gasping for breath and clutching his chest and arm and he manages to get "heart attack" out before he hits the ground. Gail knocks on the door again and shouts. Eileen hears her and runs for the door, hastily buttoning her blouse. Gail runs in and Eileen calls 999.

Simon apologizes. Leanne is still upset and tells him to get his coat.

Sarah brings a big bouquet of roses that have arrived for her. Yep, you guessed it, they're from Tony. There's a card, apologizing for hurting her. She rages and throws the flowers down. In classic Liz style, she shouts he can't get round her with a few poxy roses which, by the way, are her second least favourites! That's the Liz I know and Love! Sarah offers to bin them while Liz calms down. A bit. But when Sarah leaves the room and closes the door, Liz gets tearful.

Leanne has brought Simon to Ken's, telling him that she needs some time on her own. He notices the bruise on her cheek and she puts it down to a run in with a door. Simon is reluctant to go, knowing his mother is angry at him but goes inside at her insistence.

In the salon, Kirk and Maria have come back. Kirk is still trying to work out the whole Andy situation. Maria tells Audrey all the gossip but Audrey isn't surprised at all, of course. She admits she knows and that Gail knew before then. Maria is shocked that Gail could marry Michael knowing the truth and then it dawns on her that Luke knew and that's why he fought with Andy.

In the hospital, Eileen and Gail are standing beside Michael's bed. He's asleep. Eileen pretends she was in the kitchen making tea and heard Michael groan. She has no idea why Michael's shirt was open. Michael comes round and sees Gail but tells her he doesn't want her there. This changes nothing. Gail slowly turns away and leaves. Eileen comes over to the bed and reassures Michael she didn't tell Gail what happened between them and promises she won't tell anyone. She leaves him to get some rest.

Sarah is sitting with Callum in the pub, asking him if he ever had a proper job (what happened to the pretence that he's in "security"?) He admits he's never had a "proper" job, not really. Liz chivvies Sarah back to work. Callum is rude to Liz and gets told what for from her. Callum continues to be cheeky much to her chagrin.

Todd comes into the shop to help Tracy with the stock take. Tracy mentions seeing an ambulance in front of her place. Todd doesn't seem very worried. Tracy reminds him they're still his family but he just snarks "Says who?"

Back to the hospital, a doctor asks Eileen what happened with Michael. Was he doing anything strenuous. Eileen reluctantly admits Michael was lying on top of her. The doctor assures her of confidentiality. Eileen sees Gail coming down the hall. Gail stops, looks horrified and turns and walks away. Oh dear. But later, Eileen finds her in another waiting area. Gail didn't actually hear what Eileen said which is a relief. Gail was only glad someone was with Michael and she could well have saved his life by being with him. Eileen asks why Gail ran off. She cries that she was upset seeing Eileen keeping watch over Michael which should be her job but her husband hates her. Eileen suggests they both go home.

Luke closes up the garage. Maria comes to him kind of sheepishly and admits she's found out about Gavin/Andy. Luke tells her that Steph had made him promise not to tell anyone. Maria wishes she had known and apologizes.

Simon is glad to see that Leanne has come back for him. Ken tells Leanne that Simon was anxious and is upset at losing another person he loves. Ken promises to be of help anytime as they leave.

Sarah pulls a pint for Luke. Callum decides he will leave. Maria comes in looking for Luke and, finding him, asks if she can sit down. Behind the bar, Sarah asks if she can take her break. Liz realizes she's been a bit hard on her today and apologizes. Maria continues to apologize to Luke who finally relents and it looks like they're back together. Kirk arrives and after finding out they're reunited, admits she's been a nightmare since they'd split up.

Todd calls to Jason and asks if he's spoken to their mother. Jason isn't up for a conversation. Tracy comes out of the shop. She tries to get to the bottom of things. Todd admits he treated his family like they treated him and he's moved out. Tracy chides him. She hoped what he'd done was worth it because it's lonely out there on your own. She knows all about it. food for thought.

In the Bistro, Steph comes over to the bar where Andy is and is giggling about a couple she's been serving. They're on their first date and are already rowing about sharing the bill. They watch the woman shred the bill and pour a glass of water over the date's head and she walks out with a righteous indignity. Steph admires her for sticking to her guns. Andy looks at her with a soulful smile, he really feels lucky to have her. they kiss as Audrey comes in, rolling her eyes at the sight. She's looking for Nick and tells them that Michael has collapsed. Andy wants to see him but Audrey warns him away.

Leanne pours herself a drink. Simon comes out, ready for bed. He really does look contrite and he launches himself into her arms (but really, he's getting a bit big for that, isn't he?) Anyway, he apologizes again and she tells him that he can't lose his temper like that again. He promises it won't.

Eileen and Gail have arrived back on Coronation Street. Gail pays for the cab. Eileen tries to assure her that Michael will be ok. Gail asks her if she'll be there for Michael since he doesn't want his wife with him. And could she keep Gail informed if there's news. Eileen agrees. Gail launches herself at Eileen for a hug. Now *that's* funny, especially the awkward look on Eileen's face! Gail runs back across the street as Jason comes up, looking mystified at what he's just seen. Eileen tells him about Michael. Jason expresses sympathy for Gail.

Wednesday 10 June

Liz is sweeping outside the Rovers when Erica comes along and asks if she's coming to the exercise class at the gym. Liz isn't sure, she's not in a happy mood, Tracy was supposed to have picked up Amy and taken her to school earlier, but didn't show up. Erica says they can go to the Bistro afterwards, she's carrying the heir, they'll get discount! When she's gone, Liz suddenly notices Tracy come out of her front door and head off down the Street. She shouts to her and Tracy stops, giving Liz some excuse about her alarm not going off. Liz says that Tracy is the last person she would want anything to do with, but they have Amy to consider. As Tracy walks off, she's accosted by Sean who reckons she should be hanging her head in shame. During the conversation, Sean reveals that Tony sent Liz flowers, and Tracy is not happy to hear this.

Across the Street, a bus pulls away from the bus stop, showing Kylie and her friend Gemma standing there.

Inside the Platt's house, Andy asks Gail if she's rung the hospital today. Gail says there's no news, adding that she can't stand not being able to visit, but she's glad Michael is letting Eileen see him, at least she can report back. Max is not at school, it's an inset day. David says he hates them, and tells Gail that Callum is going to have Max for the afternoon. Gail asks why he doesn't ask Callum to pick Max up earlier, but David doesn't want Callum having him for a minute longer than he has to. Gail asks if David has rung Missing Persons again. David says he hasn't, but he will when he gets the chance.

Outside, Kylie borrows lipstick from her friend, and wonders if David will slam the door in her face, he might even have a girlfriend, she's been gone six months. "Wish me luck," says Kylie, and starts walking towards the house. Then her courage fails her and she turns round and runs back to Gemma again.

Kevin has brought Jack back from Auntie Pam's, and Jenny is delighted to see him. Sophie has been on the phone, sorting out things for Maddie's funeral. She tells them that Ben, Maddie's little brother is coming, but they can't find Maddie's mum.

Julie is busy in the kitchen when Mary comes in. She tries to point out tactfully that Dev may not be planning to propose, but Julie isn't so sure as Dev has apparently booked a table for just the two of them at a trendy new restaurant in town. "Why would he take me out for a fancy meal if he's not planning something?" she asks.

Tracy sees Liz and Erica heading for the bistro after their exercise class. "I hope you chucked them in the bin," she says, sourly, and goes on to tell Liz not to be a pushover. "Don't let him wangle his way back in," she says, adding that some of the stunts Tony pulled to get Liz out of the pub shocked even her, and goes on to reveal that the thugs that came to the pub were Tony's mates, he paid them. Liz is horrified.

Julie has gone off to work, and Mary asks Dev if the meal out tonight is a special occasion, and tells him that Julie is expecting a proposal. Dev is shocked, going to India has made him re-evaluate everything and he's actually met someone else, although he has no idea whether anything is going to come of it. He urges her to keep it a secret until he figures out what he's going to do. Mary urges him to be honest with Julie.

Kylie and Gemma are once again walking towards the Platt house. She's desperate to see the kids but she doesn't want to do any more damage. Gemma tells them that the best thing for the kids is to have their mum back. Kylie wonders if it might be best if she never came back.

Inside the house, David is on the phone to the Missing Persons helpline when there's a knock on the door. Still talking, he goes to the door and opens it and is stunned to see Kylie standing there. "David....." she says. Leaving the door open, he just turns and walks back into the living room.

Kylie follows David inside and tells him she's sorry, she let him and the kids down. He tells her the kids are fine, but wants to know her news. She says she wanted to come home, but she was in a bad way. He was right to chuck her out, it was a massive wake up call, she knew she had to get help. She's now clean and has been for three months. He wants to know why she didn't phone, text or email, just to put their minds at rest. "Do you know how many coppers I've given your description to?" he says, angrily. She tells him she was in London, sleeping rough for a bit, but she's clean now and she'd like to start again. He says that for all he knows she was with another bloke who's now got bored and chucked her out. Just then Lily starts crying upstairs. David says they must have woken her up, or Max did. Kylie says she thought Max would be at school and David explains about the inset day. Kylie wants to see them but David doesn't think that would be a good idea. She begs him for just five minutes.

Zeedan is in the shop, talking to Dev, who says he's wishing he was back in India. Just then Leanne comes in with a bruise on her face, she says she caught it on a door. Zeedan asks how Simon is, and she tells him that he's calmed down now but she thinks he could do with getting away for a while.

Liz and Erica sit down in the bistro. Erica tells Liz that two fellas at the bar are checking them out. Liz looks over and recognises one of them, he's Dan Jones from the brewery who once asked her to go to a licensee's ball, but Tony came along then. Liz then starts thinking about the thugs who came to the pub, Tony knew how scared she was, she feels that this was even worse than him having the affair. Dan Jones and his colleague then sit down at the next table.

David brings the kids down, Max is delighted to see his mum. "Have you come back for good?" he asks her. "Yes," she says, looking at David. "Don't make promises you can't keep," says David. Just then there's a knock on the door, it's Callum come to pick Max up. David lets him in, and they're both amazed to see each other. Callum recovers first. "So you're back, from outer space...." he chuckles.

The two men are chatting across the tables to Liz and Erica. Nick gets jealous and comes over to ask if the men are bothering them, he doesn't feel they should be hitting on a pregnant woman. "All right Nick," says Liz, "we're just having a laugh."

As David hands Callum Max's overnight bag, Kylie asks why he's letting him take him. "Because I've got no choice," says David. "Well I'm not having it," says Kylie, "I'm his mum, I don't want him to go." David tells her it's a pity she wasn't there to say that in court. When they've gone David explains that she walked out and he's not his real dad, so he didn't have a leg to stand on. Kylie is horrified.

Simon finds Leanne with a suitcase and she tells him they're going on holiday to France. "Cool," he mutters and wanders off talking about ordering a new game.

Back in the bistro, Dan's colleague isn't happy with his meal and complains to Nick who grudgingly offers another dish. Dan says all he wanted was a quiet drink and a bit of grub. Liz says he should have gone to her pub.

In Kevin's house, they're talking about the funeral. Sophie doesn't want anyone wearing black. Jenny offers to look after Jack, and Kevin is grateful.

Liz and Dan walk into the Rovers. She introduces him to Sean and tells him to sit down, she'll bring drinks over. Sean remarks that she's quick out of the trap, and Liz retorts that unlike Tony, she finishes a relationship before she starts another.

Dev and Mary come in. She tells points him towards Julie and tells him to nip the situation in the bud, immediately. He goes to sit with Julie and tells her he has to cancel the dinner later, making up an excuse that he's needed at the shop.

Liz takes the drinks over to Dan. He tells her he likes the pub, he might become a regular.

David tells Kylie that Callum has Max for two nights a week, and David has him the rest of the time. Kylie says she's going to fight it. David says how Callum had a good solicitor and manipulated the whole situation. Kylie can't get her head round it at all. David tells her not to look at him as if he shouldn't have let it happen, she was the one who walked out on her family. "I know," she says, "but things are different now, I'm back, I'm clean, it changes everything."

Anne Logan.

Friday 12 June

It's morning at Kevin's and Sophie got up in the night - Kevin heard her. Sophie thinks it's so quiet without Maddie. Jenny thinks she should have something to eat. then Sophie gets upset because some tea spills on one of the service booklets for the funeral. It seems Jenny has offered to look after Jack for the day. A funeral is no place for kids, Jenny says.

Callum and Sarah are in the cafe and Sarah's sick of hearing him go on about Kylie. Carla sneaks downstairs in her robe to ask Roy for some real butter, causing a bit of a stir among the customers and causing Zeedan to turn around and leave as soon as he spots her. Carla tells Roy she can handle a few dirty looks. But she says she's not going to run the risk of going to the funeral, even though she liked Maddie a lot.

Michelle arrives back from honeymoon on her own. It seems Steve's stayed on to spend a bit more time with Andy. Liz says he's probably better there. Since they wedding it's been all blue lights and funerals round here. It's lucky Tracy is 50 per cent Barlow and a survivor. Liz mentions that there's nothing like a new broom to sweep away the rubbish. Michelle wants to hear all about the new man.

Dev's at the gym. He calls Talisa just as Julie arrives with a tray full of breakfast for him. She says she's a bit worried about him. The first must have brought back some terrible memories. They talk about the funeral and Dev says it's reminded him that they should always seize the day. He says he tries to do that but before you know it, you get swept back into the same old . . . Julie tells him his friends and neighbours could do with some good news for a change.

Kirk and Beth discuss the funeral. Kirk thinks Maddie had funny taste in music. Beth heard someone creep out in the night. If it wasn't Kirk, who could it be. . .? Craig gets down the stairs and is halfway out the door, shouting that he's late for his exam, before Beth can catch him. Kirk's noticed that Craig doesn't go anywhere without his rucksack these days. He spots a story in the paper about illegal raves and wonders if Craig's going to them. Beth tells Kirk she won't be going to the funeral. She's going to stay and sort out Craig.

Over at Sally's, Sophie's annoyed by the sandwich fillings, even though Sally seems to have made exactly what she ordered. Sophie thinks there should be more food for kids. Tim's reminiscing over the games console - he and Maddie used to play when the others had gone to bed. Sophie suddenly realises she's brought the wrong music and dashes out, even though the funeral cars are due at any minute.

Jenny's busy packing and telling Jack he's her special little boy. She quickly hides the bag as Sophie comes in to get the right CD. Jenny's trying not to show how anxious she is to get rid of Sophie but Sophie says she just needs a minute and sits down.

Michelle goes over to the cafe to see Roy's houseguest. Carla tells her she's sure she put out the candle but the fire must be her fault. Michelle asks for an update on Nick and Carla says he's with Erica at his baby's first scan.

Sophie tells Jenny that because of her faith, everyone assumes she will handle death better. Jenny talks very wisely about grief and Sophie asks who she lost. Jenny just says flippantly that you can't get to her age without losing someone. Sophie tells her she can speak freely - Sophie won't tell Kevin. "Who was it? Who died?"

Jenny doesn't think Sophie will understand. Not all loss is the same. Jack, for example, lost his mother and no child should have to lose a mother. She tells Sophie she'd better get going to the funeral and to stay strong and look after her dad. Sophie gets up to go.

Outside, the hearse arrives and street residents stand to pay their respects. Tyrone says this is all wrong. Maddie was gobby and wild, not black cars and men in suits. Sophie comes out and greets Maddie's brother and hugs Zeedan and Alya. She gets into the car.

Kylie and David talk about why she went. She feels as if David abandoned her but he says she couldn't be around Max and Lily the way she was. And now Max is close to being taken by Callum. Kylie says her babies need her. "Let me try and make it right." "How?" asks David. Nick and Erica come in looking happy but when Nick sees Kylie he starts to have a go at her. Kylie says she'll go but David stops her.

A taxi arrives in the street and Brian gets out. He knocks on the door but Beth tells him Julie's not there. "She's moved on. She's with someone else." She take great pleasure in telling him that Julie is with Dev now. Behind her, Craig spots her and turns back. But it's too late. Using the standard Mother eyes in the back of her head, Beth spots him. "Oi! You! In! Now!" Yes. Each word a separate sentence.

In the house, Beth demands to know what's going on. Has Craig been going to illegal raves? "What? In Weatherfield?" he asks. Beth starts a metaphor and gets stuck. "If you're going off the rails, don't blame me when you . . .er . . . run into the station!" She grabs his back pack and the contents empty on to the floor - school stuff and several spray-paint cans.

A taxi arrives and Jenny puts Jack into it. She gets the driver to wait while she answers the phone. It's Kevin, telling her how things are going. She tells him to just concentrate on Sophie, ends the call and turns to Jack. "Ready for our big adventure?" And off they go.

David points out that neither of them is as bad as Callum but without Kylie, David's got little chance of keeping Max. If they stick together they can keep Max out of Callum's clutches. Can they go back to being a proper family?

Sarah and Callum come in - they're after Max's swimming kit. It's the first time Sarah and Kylie have met and neither is impressed. Sarah tells Kylie she can't just turn up here after God knows how long. "What? Like you did?" asks Kylie. Callum sneers that not even David will fall for Kylie's rubbish. "You will not get my son!" Kylie tells him. "Our son," says Callum. He asks David if he's taking Kylie back. David swallows hard.

The End.

Another busy week here in update towers. Anyway this is episode 8660, series 57, episode 116.

This episode was written by Carmel Morgan and directed by Tim Dowd. Copyright remains with ITV to whom many thanks.

We open at the Platts where David is making out that he and Kylie have re-united to Callum and Sarah. They exchange barbed comments before Gail arrives and is stunned to see Kylie. "Hello Gail" says Kylie laconically after Gail asks what she is doing there.

Gail cannot believe that Kylie can waltz in and all is forgiven. Callum and Sarah are enjoying watching the Gailfest and we see them smirking in the background. Gail carries on about breaking David's heart, leaving him high and dry and that David thought she was dead in a ditch. Indeed Gail sometimes wishes she was. Callum thinks that he will mention this to his brief. David tells him with a bad tempered voice to get out - something else Callum can mention to his solicitor. Gail turns on Sarah and says she could so much better than him. And turns back to David and says he could not do worse than Kylie if he tried! Kylie tells Gail she is wrong and Kylie goes out to get her stuff. On her way out she tells Callum that they are a family.

At Maddie's wake no ill is spoken of the departed - Kirk said she made the day go faster and Sally comments that Sophie is holding it all in and not expressing her feelings (not crying). Sean is taking a Buddhist view of life and treating everyone with respect, Ty thinks this may be a challenge. At Sally's behest Tim tries to get Sophie to eat a (rather nice looking) sausage roll, if only to get Sally off his back as Sophie observes. Tim notes that she can read him like a book but Sophie rather wittily rejoins that it is more like a pamphlet!

Mary would like "Sailing By" and the shipping forecast read by Peter Donaldson (sadly retired), but she has already recorded it. Rita would like "Jerusalem" and Emily would like "Abide with Me". Norris makes an absurd comment and even Emily pulls him up on it before Rita observes that he has plenty more where that came from. But Norris' argument in fallacious and he stumbles into silence. Apparently Maddie tried to convince Kev that getting her to brew up was sexist. Indeed anything she did not want to do was apparently sexist - washing up, putting the bins out - even Sophie joins in and said she swerved everything. Sal interrupts and pulls Sophie to one side to tell that it is OK to cry and asks if she does know that. Sophie assures her she is fine.

In the ginnel Craig, Beth and Kirk are walking to one end with Beth giving Craig the verbals over his glue sniffing habit and that he needs professional help. Craig denies it as the ear lashing continues. Then he shows them the artwork where the name "MADDIE" in pink nestles on a depiction of the Corrie Street roofs and chimney pots with pink and white butterflies rising above. Beth is stunned. Craig says it is a tribute rest-in-peace kind of thing. Beth notes that is some serious nozzle control son. Kirk says "Watch out Banksy". He admits to the chimney and balloon on Sally's wall as well. Beth is not mad at him - she has just been worried sick - whilst he has been beavering away vandalising the ginnel wall.

Over at the Bistro Gail is telling Nick that she wishes she could talk some sense into David; whilst Erica is listening. Nick knows David loves Kylie and Gail observes she is lucky - Michael only has contempt written on his face. Nick dashes off to comfort Carla who has just entered the bar whilst Gail continues her moan to Erica - Sarah doe eye over Callum and they agree Max is a lovely child. Erica watches him. Carla could not face going to Maddie's funeral - she would just cause more upset. Erica comes across to say she is going and Nick hardly notices her departure. At the door she looks back to see that there is clearly a connection between her baby's father and Carla.

Sean asks for hush and Sophie has a few words to say. She thanks them for coming and recalls she met Maddie on 25 December 2013 - as Maddie always said the best Christmas present Sophie had ever had. 523 days together. Sophie said Maddie was more "alive" than anyone she had met and she not only loved her but also admired her. Maddie was brave and mouthy. Tim adds she was a pain in the backside. Sophie agrees. Norris called her contrary as the day is long. Sophie agrees. Stubborn as a mule from Kev. Sophie agrees. Rita calls her headstrong. Gloriously irreverent from Mary. Sophie agrees. Emily adds extremely kind hearted. Sophie says she would have loved to hear that list. Ben adds that she was really funny. Sophie toasts her Maddie - funny and fearless. Kev congratulates Sophie and gives her a huge hug.

Jenny Bradley has arrived in a flat in Hull with Jack in one hand and a dark wig on her head. She reckons the flat is great. The estate agent asks if Melanie will feel safe here and Jenny thinks and hopes so. She has little with her - the number one priority was getting out in one piece - which they did. The keys are handed over. No pets, no sub-letting and no all-might parties. The estate agent thinks she is very brave, a survivor.

Carla and Nick are still talking although the Bistro is a lot busier. He claims he is multi-tasking (but we know he often takes Friday nights off - I have mentioned this before in previous updates). He tells her she cannot do sackcloth and ashes forever (even Carla would look a million dollars dressed like that). She offers to do the stocks for a week or a month so that everyone could do their worst and it would be over. He assures that Roy, Michelle and himself are still there to support her. After all it is more than one phone box of friends! She laughs, they look at each other and then kiss quite deeply for two "friends". She realises it is wrong and saying nothing she gets up and goes to the toilet to compose herself.

After the break she emerges and whilst admitting he has a nice face he also has a sort of ... girlfriend. Carla says that the last thing she needs or wants or should have is any relationship. She calls herself a mess - he rejoins that we all are. She says it would be a bad idea. Indeed the million dollar question - why is Nick keeping Erica at arm's length? She says she has just made a complete fool of herself and she is entitled to ask difficult questions. Carla asks if Nick fancies Erica and he admits that he does (well who wouldn't?). Carla asks if she is boring? Or dreadful company? Or a bit thick? Nick admits none of those. He accuses her of reverse psychology. She says that as a friend she needs to point out the blindingly obvious link between Nick and Erica. And the two, no three, of them could be incredibly happy together. She tells him to go for it before he kicks himself when Erica finds someone else. And he is not to snog her again in public - he should hold onto his dignity. She departs and outside she takes a deep breath knowing she may not have done what she "wanted" but what was good for others.

In the garden at Sal's Sophie is telling Ben that Maddie was proud of him. Often talking about him. And as she talks to him they both start crying as the grief overwhelms her. Sophie will always be there for him as a "nearly sister". Sal emerges from the house as this touching scene unfolds. She sends Ben to get some ice cream and she sits down with Sophie who dissolves in tears in her arms.

In the Rovers Liz assures Erica she will be dating again soon; the latter reckons it will take three years for her ankles to recover. (Anyone know how old Erica is supposed to be?) Anyway Liz points out that men are not the be all and end all. Erica rather thinks they are and Liz agrees. And Erica and Liz both know some good men - and Erica is wistful - Liz spots that she is pining for Nick. Liz tells Sarah love to go and make her a cuppa as she is earwigging. Erica admits it - but it is also a complete waste of time. He likes the cargo not the container ship. And there is an upside notes Liz - Erica will have Nick on tap for baby sitting duties. Erica says that if Nick was coming round to her place for the evening she would be stopping in with full slap on and her best tinkly laugh (Claire when are you in?).

Julie tells Mary they need a romcom to cheer themselves up. Julie wants it to get Dev to "pop the question". Mary wonders if he needs prompting but Julie decides on "The Holiday". Julie immediately sees the parallels between her and Dev and Jude Law and Cameron Diaz. Mary tells Julie that Beth saw Brian knocking on the door of her flat earlier. Julie sinks to the sofa - "Brian"!

In the Street Nick finds Erica. He tells her they are "wrong". He thinks they should be a proper couple and denies it is to do with the child, well partly - they get on with good chemistry and a good laugh. He calls himself a fool and calls her great. She says she is hardly a barrel of laughs at the moment and then corrects herself - she is a barrel. Once the flat is ready Nick wants her and the baby to move in. He tells her they are a family and she kisses him with markedly less passion than the kiss between Nick and Carla earlier on.

Liz's new beau - Dan (she never hangs around does she?) is buying Liz a drink. Liz blames Tony and she will not be falling for any of his lies. Cheating is the line in the sand. Liz just wants Tony's signature agreeing to being a sleeping partner. And to give him an ear bashing - but will it be that easy?

Kev, Sophie and Rita are slightly confused. Jenny and Jack are missing and it is 8:30 pm. Odd time to take a young boy out. Sophie spots that Jack's car collection is missing. His "County" kit has gone. And his other clothes. Sophie and Rita are both instantly concerned. Kev rings Jenny's number and on loudspeaker at Sophie's request we hear that the number has not been recognised. Rita says they should call the police.

Dev, Julie, Mary and the twins are watching the film when there is a knock at the door. Julie tries to stop Dev answering the door. She apologises. She is worried that it might be Brian - but instead Dev opens the door to a petite blonde (with sunglasses on her head) who says "Hello you!". He responds "Talisa" - with a warm smile on his face.

Kylie has returned. She calls David amazing. David tells her that he is not prepared to be a proper family in the way she means. What he said earlier was just for Callum. Everyone needs to believe. Even Kylie believed him! He admits he has forgiven her - but he is over it - all of it. He is over "us". She says she has been clean for 3 months. But to David that is not relevant. He will always love her. But he needs to be in control. He has switched the tap off at the mains. Kylie says she will be a good mum and wife and whilst he might be acting she won't and he will learn to trust her. David says that he won't, as he cannot risk it for the sake of the children. Kylie breaks down in tears.

In Hull Jenny without the wig is playing with Jack; she wants him to be her son and she tells him the Mummy loves him. We note behind her a balcony and that they are several floors up.

Kevin has spoken to the police - has she ever used the name Jenny Midgley? Kevin finds he does not have a good picture of Jenny. Kev assures the police woman that she would never harm Jack and then shows a good picture of Jenny with Jack. Meanwhile Sophie has surfed the web and found a story about Jenny Midgley in the Whitby Express and it is the same Jenny. She had a son called Tom who drowned in paddling pool. It happened two years ago when Tom was four. Same as Jack. Kevin is clearly distraught.

Roll credits.

Finally I usually have some space to praise the institution of Corrie. However I feel let down at the moment. Over the next couple of reports you will be treated to the delight of Jack's abduction. Most of us have been watching Corrie for a long time and recall the sad saga of Jake's death. Given much of what is said over the next few episodes I find it amazing that no-one in the Webster family has any recall of Jake or his mother or his passing. A number of comments are made about Jenny and the loss of Tom - but Kevin's loss goes unmentioned - and yet he lost more.

I hope it has not been deliberate - but some of the lines used would hurt Kevin so much. OTOH maybe it allows Kevin to go and talk to Jenny and with his own understanding help her. I just do not know how some of the lines could have been used in the light of past events.

And by this time next week all will be well!

Monday 15 June

Written by Julie Jones Directed by Brett Fallis

Rita is at Number 13, supporting Kevin and Sophie. Sally arrives to see if there's any news. Rita insists that Jenny wouldn't harm Jack. Kevin is angry that Jenny would put him through this and when Sophie tries to say I Told You So, he snaps at her. Sally goes to answer the door. The police have arrived but there's no news. Sophie and Kevin ask about the son Jenny lost.

Jenny, meanwhile, is making paper chains with Jack to decorate the flat. Although she says to him "it's you and mummy, now" she tells him about the birthday party they're going to have for Tom.

The police tell Kevin about Jenny's son. Her little four year old son, Tom, was left in a paddling pool unattended but it was designated as an accidental death. There should be no reason Jenny would harm Jack. Kevin snarls that by taking Jack away from his family, he's being harmed. After the police leave, Rita reiterates, *accidental*, and repeats that Jenny wouldn't hurt Jack. Sally is snarky and implies Jenny could have hurt her son even if she wasn't convicted.

Over at the Platt Towers, Kylie is trying to help with Max but he's a bit reluctant to let her help. He reminds them that Callum is picking him up after school and then asks Kylie when she's leaving again. She promises she will never leave and goes upstairs with him. Gail makes a few sarcastic remarks about the pair of them putting on a smiley face for all to see when things are not as they seem.

Jenny brings a little cake with a candle out. Jack is just sitting there on the sofa looking bereft. Jenny gets angry because he's not making an effort and shouts at him to go to his room. The little boy runs off, scared, as she tears down the paper chains.

Rita comes back to see if there's been any further news. Nothing yet, she's told. Rita comments that it's a terrible thing to lose a child (and Kevin says nothing, still forgetting he lost one of his own in 2000). Rita is very upset about Jenny though admits it doesn't excuse what she's done. Her phone rings but when she answers it, though nobody says hello, she can hear that there's someone there, upset. Jenny! She doesn't let Kevin take the phone for fear of frightening her. Rita tries to get her to talk to her. Jenny admits she's not ok. Rita tries further to find out where she is and that they're all worried about both of them. Jenny sobs "I shouldn't have done it", striking fear into Rita's eyes.

Alya and Gary are walking towards the factory. Beth summons her by text to come into the ginnel where she's waiting with Eileen and Mary admiring the mural that Craig painted. Alya admires it and Mary gives it high praise. Carla comes around the corner, also summoned but it seems like Beth has rounded her up to make another point and dig the knife in a bit more. Why do Corrie residents always presume guilty until proven innocent? They do this time and time again. Alya whispers to Gary about crocodile tears and Carla looks grim and turns around and leaves. Alya is uncompromising in her contempt and even Beth looks smug that she's scored a point. Mary scolds them.

Rita tries to calm Jenny down and find out if Jack is ok but Jenny is crying hard. Rita calls her a good mother and knows she wouldn't hurt Jack. Jenny gasps that they're supposed to be having a party. Jenny finally allows Just Rita to come and get her though Kevin is shaking his head, unwilling for that.

Julie comes into Number 7 where Mary is plumping cushions. She tells Mary she's not seen Brian and is glad of it. Mary tells Julie that yes, Talisa is still there just as she comes through the door, clearly having been to a yoga session. Mary admits to the occasional session herself. Talisa explains that she learned in India from a bloke from Birmingham. Talisa decides to make a smoothie so Julie runs off to nip to the shop. Talisa goes up the stairs just as Dev arrives. Both women are out of view and Mary gives Dev what for, scolding him for leading Julie on when he clearly has designs on Talisa.

Outside, Gail sees Eileen coming out of the Kabin with some sweets for Michael and notes that Kylie and David are back together. Gail admits it's mainly for the kids. Reconciling is a lot of work. She knows all about it. Eileen nods and gets on her way.

Rita and Kevin are getting ready to leave for Hull. Sophie is determined to call the police but Rita doesn't think it's a good idea and neither does Kevin. They don't want Jenny scared or panicked. Sophie is frustrated but goes along with them. For now.

At the flat, Jenny has a handful of balloons that she releases to the sky, telling her little boy Happy Birthday and that mummy loves him. She kisses Jack and tells him tearfully they're going to be together forever.

Bethany is making a sandwich at the Platt house though she's not actually staying there at the moment (I think she and Sarah are staying at Audrey's which is probably further from the school). She makes a remark to Kylie about addictive personalities. Kylie, to her credit, just agrees, it's not a great thing to have. David comes downstairs as Bethany is asking Kylie what it was she was on. Callum, Sarah and Max comes in, late, having bought Max another game. David brings him into the kitchen to give him his medication. That gives Callum the open door to poke at Kylie and wind her up, suggesting strongly that she would be after Max's meds given the chance. That hits a bit close to the knuckle for both Kylie and David.

Rita insists on going up to see Jenny alone even though Sophie is adamant that Jenny could be dangerous. Rita doesn't think that would be the case. Jenny's grieving her child, she's sad, not dangerous. Rita promises to bring Jack back. Upstairs, Jenny sees Rita get out of the passenger side of the car and looks perturbed.

In the factory, Julie is fretting about Brian and Sally is fretting about Kevin and Jack. Beth seems unconcerned about either situation. Carla asks Alya to take the meeting at the Bistro on her own. Alya gripes that Carla is feeling sorry for herself and leaving Alya herself to do all the work. (I'd call it being confident that your trainee assistant manager can handle herself).

Rita approaches Jenny's flat and knocks. Jenny peeks through the peek hole and lets her in. Rita looks around at the birthday decorations as Jenny hisses at her for not coming alone.

Julie is point out jealously that Talisa has lovely glowing skin and is calm from twice a day yoga. Beth takes the opportunity to utter hateful comments about "people like that" and that there could be more to her than meets the eye. (I kind of agree. Talisa is already coming across as too good to be true). Dev comes into the cafe with Talisa who is introduced to Beth. Talisa admires Beth's hairdo and likens her to an 80s pop singer. Beth likes the flattery from the looks of it but doesn't quite seem won over. Dev and Talisa sit down and Beth whispers in Julie's ear observing that Dev is looking at Talisa all gooey eyed.

Jenny is furious that Rita has come with Kevin. She's clearly unreasonable. Rita tries to find out where Jack is but Jenny won't say anything.

Sarah suggests that she and Callum get a bite to eat before she has to work. Max wants to come but Kylie says he can't so he accuses her of not being a proper mum. Ouch. David backs up Kylie. Callum digs in a bit more at Kylie until she shoots out the door, upset, leaving Callum crowing in triumph, insinuating she's going for a drugs fix.

Rita tells Jenny Kevin was with her when she called and she couldn't keep him away. She reveals they know about Tom and they know it was an accident. Rita expresses sympathy while Jenny cries. Finally Rita calls out for Jack who runs out. Rita hugs him close as he says he wants to go home. Rita is horrified when Jenny leans over and tells Jack that this is his home now.

Talisa has had a shower and Julie comes home to find her drinking another smoothing and wearing Julie's dressing gown. Talisa apologizes, telling her she gave away most of her clothes before she went to India. Talisa says she's a local girl original but there's no relatives around anymore. Julie suggests she visit her nearest one, in the Isle of Wight though backs off when Talisa wonders if she's overstayed her welcome.

Down at the car, Kevin and Sophie are anxious. Finally Kevin tells her to call the police while he goes upstairs where Rita is trying to talk Jenny into letting her take Jack to his father. Jenny explains it's Tom's 7th birthday today. Only 7. She cries, heartbroken that she couldn't protect him. Rita again sympathises but tells her she cares about her and so does Kevin. Yes of course Kevin will forgive her. Kevin beats on the door, startling Rita. Jenny grabs Jack and backs out onto the balcony as Kevin bursts in. Jenny screams at them to stay away and glances down over the edge of the railing.

Sophie's on the phone to the police. She follows this with a phone call to Sally. She looks up from the street to the balcony where a near-hysterical Jenny is clutching Jack to her while Kevin and Rita try to calm her down. Jenny sobs that the last thing she wants to do is to hurt Jack but just as it looks as though she may be about to give in, Sophie comes bursting through the door.

Back in the Rovers Sally tells Tim she doesn't know what's going on. Norris helpfully reminds her that it was Jenny's father who tried to kill Rita. Sarah doesn't endear herself to Sally by wondering aloud whether Kevin just goes after women who are a bit ‘loop the loop'. Tim wonders whether Jenny's on drugs but Sally tells him the police have said that it may be because her little boy died.

Out in the street Ken spots Brian who greets his old neighbour with a bear hug. Brian tells him he's there to build bridges with Julie although he confirms he knows she's now with Dev.

Meanwhile Julie is in fact only a few feet away, on the other side of Dev's front door. She's talking to Talisa, or rather trying to find out how long she's planning on staying. Julie would like Talisa to go and visit her relatives in the Isle of Wight whereas Talisa is more than happy to stay with Dev who was ‘such a friend' to her while they were in India. In fact she doesn't know what she would have done without him. Julie's more worried about what she might have done with him. Just then Dev comes in and Julie suggests the two of them go for a drink in the Rovers. Talisa thinks that's a lovely idea and goes off to get changed. Then Julie remembers she has to go and pick up a parcel from the post office. Dev says he and Talisa will meet her in the pub.

We return to Jenny who is still clutching Jack on the balcony, now watched by Kevin, Sophie and Rita. Kevin tells her he knows she lost her son. Still holding Jack, Jenny sobs her way through the story of what happened to Tom. It was a tragic accident, involving a paddling pool. She only turned her back for a moment. Kevin tells her it must have been awful but she doesn't want to lose another child. At long last she gives in and hands over Jack. Kevin grabs him but Jenny is still crying hysterically by the edge of the balcony as the police cars arrive.

At Platt Towers Sarah is filling in her mum and Bethany about what she's heard about Jenny running off with Jack. David comes downstairs and the three women give him a hard time about Kylie. David says he has faith that she'll come back but Sarah's view is ‘once a junkie, always a junkie'. Meanwhile she claims that Callum is a reformed character. "With a deformed personality," says David.

Kylie, meanwhile, is still hovering outside in the street. Maria sees her standing there and decides to give her a bit of a pep talk. Kylie looks thoughtful.

Kevin watches Jenny while she looks down over the side of the balcony. "The police are here now, what have I got to lose?" she asks as she stares down at the street several floors below.

Kevin talks gently to Jenny who finally collapses into a sobbing heap on the corner of the balcony just as the police arrive.

We return to Weatherfield where Kylie has got herself an appointment at the doctor's.

Meanwhile over at the Bistro Alya has arranged a meeting with a buyer. He's not keen on what Underworld has to offer so Alya tells him that they have an upmarket range of bespoke basques that she thinks might be more up his street.

Kylie is telling the doctor about her drug taking. She's after a test so that she can prove to the family that she's kicked her habit but as the doctor explains, it's one thing getting clean, it's another staying that way. She tells Kylie she'll need support from people around her and gives her some leaflets to take away.

Out in the street a delighted Brian bumps into Julie. Many moons ago they entered a competition in Knapsack Magazine and their limerick has won first prize of a round-the-world trip! But Julie isn't going anywhere with Brian. She tells him in no uncertain terms that she's with Devendra now and if Brian still holds a torch for her he must blow out the flame.

Back in the Bistro Alya's business contact is getting slightly suggestive. She takes offence, whereupon Jason leaps to her defense and the meeting comes to an abrupt end.

Up in Hull a sobbing Jenny is driven off in a police car. Rita is sure that Jenny never intended to harm Jack but Kevin doesn't look like he's going to forgive her in a hurry.

Meanwhile Brian is enjoying a game of chess with Ken who is filling him in on what's been going on. Ken mentions Deirdre and says he hopes she'll be back in time for her 60th birthday in a few weeks. Rather poignantly Brian says he must miss her. They move onto the subject of where Brian is staying – a rather unappealing B and B in town. Before you can say check-mate, Ken asks Brian if he'd like to stay in Amy's room as she's currently living next door at the Rovers.

Round a Platt Towers Gail receives a text message from Eileen to tell her that Michael is having an ICD fitted on Friday (apparently something to do with his heart for us non-medics). Gail wistfully tells David she should be there with him. While this is going on, Kylie arrives back. Bethany's convinced she's been getting high on something but Kylie puts her straight. She's been to see the doctor. She says it's one thing getting clean but it's quite another staying that way and she's going to need their help.

In the Rovers Sally gets a phone call with the good news that everyone's fine and Jack is safe. Norris is much more concerned to know if Rita's alright.

Julie arrives in her usual flustered state, clutching the parcel she's picked up from the post office and joins Dev and-. She tells them it's a collection of Cell Block H fanzines for her cousin Dawn who lives in Hebden Bridge with her cat. As Julie witters on, Talisa catches Dev's eye.

Having come to Alya's rescue, Jason is now having a drink with her in the Bistro. At least he's drinking – Alya just wishes she could have one too. She thinks it might make her feel better. Jason says he knows losing your girlfriend is not the same as losing both your parents but he wants her to know he sympathises. Alya agrees it's not the same thing at all but she's grateful nonetheless. She appears to be on he brink of breaking down.

Back at Platt Towers, Gail is reading Kylie's leaflets while Kylie says she'll read Max a bedtime story. But Max turns down her offer . Kylie tells David they'll need to work together to win back Max's trust. "We?" questions David. Kylie says she can't do it on her own. David responds by kissing the top of her head.

The police have finished questioning Kevin. Sophie is waiting for him. She puts her arms round her dad and tells him it's all over; Jack is safe and Jenny is locked up. Kevin says he's really sorry – he can't believe he's been so stupid. Sophie tells him he doesn't need to apologise for anything. Kevin wonders when his baby girl turned into this amazing, strong woman. Sophie replies that she's not strong and that sometimes she wishes he'd just give her a big hug and tell her that it's all going to be OK. Kevin puts his arms round her and says that he can't tell her that but he can say that he'll always be there for her and that he will never, ever let anything bad happen to her or Jack again

Wednesday 17 June

On her way to work, Alya meets Carla in the Street. Carla tells her that James, (the customer Alya saw) phoned to say "No". Alya tells her that he didn't like their range, and was also more interested in coming on to her, but she concedes that maybe she did overreact slightly. Carla's not bothered and tells her there's plenty more where he came from.

In the Platt household, Kylie tells Max they can think about going on holiday. Max would like to go somewhere there's a big water slide. When she takes Max upstairs to get ready for school, Gail asks David how long he can keep it up, she knows it's an act between him and Kylie. He tells her he can keep it up as long as it takes, he's not going to give the drug dealer an open goal.

Outside the garage, Tyrone tells Luke that Kevin is having a few days off after the upset with Jenny. Also, they need to tidy the house, Fiz is due back at the weekend and the place is a tip.

Talisa comes round the corner and comments on Luke's designer t-shirt. He tells her he got it from a mate whose shop went bust and he was selling them for 70 percent off. Jason and Kirk come along then and hear this, and ask how much it was. Luke tells them it was 25 quid. Jason, Kirk and Tyrone all decide they want one.

Steph is in the salon having her hair done by Audrey, while David scours the internet for holidays. Steph comments on him and Kylie being back together. "You got a problem with that?" asks David, and starts to get shirty. Audrey tells him that people are just a bit surprised. Just then Kylie comes in with a box of cakes and immediately senses an atmosphere. "What?" she asks. David says that Steph thinks he's a mug for taking her back, and Steph protests that she never said that. David then sticks up for Kylie, saying that she's overcome her addiction and not many people do that, and she had to swallow her pride to come back, and there are two young kids at home depending on them both.

Rita arrives at Kevin's to see how he and Sophie and Jack are. She tells them that she phoned the police in Hull earlier and Jenny has been sectioned. "She's not a well woman," she says. Just as she's leaving, Tim arrives, Sally has sent him round to look after them.

Talisa is sitting cross legged on Dev's living room floor, meditating, when he arrives home. She tells him it takes her mind off the events of the last two years. Mary comes downstairs then, brandishing a feather duster, she thinks a job is as good as anything to take one's mind off things. "The devil makes work for idle hands," she says. Dev starts to protest, but Talisa says Mary is right, she should get a job, she doesn't want to sponge. Just then Julie walks in. "Did I hear the word job?" she asks, adding she's heard of the perfect one for Talisa, as a machinist in Macclesfield. Talisa tells her she's hopeless with machines, the only job she's ever had was as a yoga teacher. Julie then thinks she may be able to take some classes at the community centre, she's have a word with Yasmeen. Dev thinks that's a brilliant idea and says she could take some at the gym as well!

Jason sees Luke outside the cafe and asks if there's any news of the t-shirts. Luke says he's seeing his mate after work, so Jason gives him the money. Gary is sweeping and looks up. "What's this?" he asks, and they explain about the designer label t-shirts and Gary decides he wants one too.

Kylie and David are in the back room of the salon. She asks if he meant what he said to Steph about her, that he was proud. He looks uncomfortable and says he never used the word proud, then he gets up to start unpacking a box. He tells her he's pleased she's kicked her addiction, but the rest of it is just an act so they can get custody of Max. He tells her, gently, not to believe everything he says in public. She looks somewhat crestfallen. He then suggests they go to the Rovers later, to show people that they are a couple again. Just then they hear the shop door closing, and go outside to see who it was, but there is no one around. They go back inside as Bethany peeps round the corner, grinning.

In the gym, Sharif is dealing with a young man whose membership has lapsed. Sharif points out the record they have on the computer, but the young man starts to get stroppy and says that Sharif called him a liar. Just then Zeedan comes out from the back to support his grandfather. The young man walks off and just then Sharif starts to cough and wheeze and then collapses.

Sharif has been put in a chair and is using an asthma inhaler. Gary calls for an ambulance as Alya and Zeedan fuss around their grandfather.

Bethany walks into the pub and tells Sarah how she'd gone to the salon and overheard David and Kylie. Before she can say exactly what she heard, Callum comes over and demands to be told.

The paramedics have arrived and put Sharif into the ambulance. Zeedan goes with him.

Outside the shop, Julie tells Dev that Talisa told her how supportive Dev had been to her after her bad relationship, and asks him what she meant exactly. Before he can reply, Brian comes walking up to them and tells Dev that he wants to take Julie away, and explains about the round the world trip. Julie gets embarrassed and flustered at first, and then tells Brian to read her lips – she is not going anywhere with him, ever! He tells Dev that he's not leaving town without Julie.

Luke is in the pub with Tyrone and Kirk. He tells them that the t-shirts were at his mate's lock up and he asked him if tomorrow will do. Luke told him that was fine. "Oh, so you've not paid him yet then?" says Tyrone, but Luke has. He's sure it'll be fine, he was at school with the guy.

Gail is in the pub with Audrey when David and Kylie come in. (I always wonder who is looking after the children in these situations!) Audrey warns Gail not to start any trouble. Mary is at the bar and comments that it's nice to see them together. "They say absence makes the heart grow fonder!" she says, raising her glass. David takes offence at this and asks if she could turn her life around after being at rock bottom? Mary mutters that she wouldn't abandon her children, and David retorts they will never know as no bloke in his right mind would touch her with a ten foot barge pole. Audrey tells David that was not called for, but David retorts that neither was what Mary said. On receiving their drinks, David then turns to Kylie. "To us," he says, "welcome back," and kisses her. Callum steps forward, clapping, and saying it's a great performance, he almost believed it.

Tim is still round at Kevin's, and has obviously just been out and brought back a takeaway. While Sophie is upstairs getting Jack into his pyjamas, Tim asks how she is. Kevin tells him that she's glad it wasn't any worse, after what happened to Maddie, and how she'd never trusted Jenny from the start, he then states that he'll never trust another woman ever again.

Back in the pub, Callum tells Kylie and David that he knows it's an act, someone heard them plotting in the salon earlier, then he reveals that it was Bethany. David doesn't admit anything, but points out to Callum that if it's true all he's got to do is make it stand up in court.

Alya is on the phone to the hospital, her grandfather is fine. Gary arrives then, with Carla, who has come to suggest that Alya takes some time off from work. At first, Alya protests, saying that she doesn't need that, she's fine, but she eventually she agrees. After Carla has gone, Alya starts to cry, telling Gary that she couldn't cope if Sharif died. Gary assures her that he's not going to die, and hugs her.

Steph arrives in the pub and sits down with Luke. Tyrone and Kirk get up to leave, asking Luke to let them know when he gets the t-shirts. After they've gone, Steph asks what t-shirts, and Luke explains about the designer label t-shirts, like the one he's wearing. "Are they genuine?" asks Steph, starting to look more closely at the one her brother is wearing. She decides that it feels cheap, the printing on the front is off, and the label in the back is the wrong way round. "Luke, they're fake!" she declares.

Mary comes in with Dev, talking about poor deluded Brian. Dev wonders if Julie still has feelings for him, and Mary suddenly realises that this would suit Dev very well. Just then Julie joins them, and apologises about Brian. Dev urges her to go and talk to him, to try and clear the air. Julie says that is very magnanimous of him, and it makes her love him all the more!

David and Kylie are sitting down talking about Bethany. David is furious, and would like to kill her, but realises that they have to be nice to her – for now. Then they leave and walk out hand in hand.

Luke is trying to call his friend, but he's not answering. "You've given him everyone's money?" asks Steph, "Luke, you have been had!"

Kylie and David arrive home where Bethany is babysitting. With lots of smiles all round, David tells her she can go now. When she's gone, Kylie joins David on the sofa and tells him she thought it went quite well today. She thought he handled it especially well, but she's finding it really difficult. He points out that it is just a game. She agrees, but asks whether, when he kissed her, he didn't enjoy it one little bit? "Isn't that how you would like it to be? Like it was before?" she asks, and leans over to kiss him. "No!" he says and pushes her away, saying that he can't risk it. She swears that she won't let him down again. "You mean it now," he says, "but three months time? A year? What will you mean then?"

Friday 19 June

We begin at No 9. Tyrone and Chesney discuss when Fiz will be back. It's tomorrow, so there's time for a big tidy-up later on. Tyrone blames Luke for the mess. When he gets over the road, Luke's talking to someone called Joe on the phone, asking him how he's going to tell his mates. "Tell us what?" asks Tyrone.

In the cafe, Anna's telling Gary how proud she is of him when Fay comes in with the baby. It's clear she has little or no empathy. She can't tell whether Miley is happy or not. After a short chat about the Christening arrangements, Fay goes to sit down and Gary says he's worried about her and he's worried about Alya.

There are no T-shirts, even though the guys have paid 25 pounds each for them. Luke's got an idea.

Gail meets Andrea in the street and gives her a good-wishes-to-Michael card to take to Eileen at the cab office so she can pass it on. Too late. Eileen's already left. David suggests Gail take it herself but Gail's sure Michael won't want her at the hospital. David says he'll take it.

At the factory, Sally and Izzy ask Alya if she's coming to the pub but she wants to go and see her Grandad.

Oh no, Rosie's been dumped by her boyfriend in London. Sally has to go down to comfort her. She's already cleared it with Carla and booked the train tickets. She tells Tim he'll have to go to the Christening without her. Tim's really annoyed. He thinks she just wants a shopping trip. Sally denies it but, hey, shopping will be a good idea to keep Rosie's mind off things. She suggests Tim take Kevin for the drink (no, not right now, Tim!) because Kevin's secretly worried about Rosie. Despite telling Tim it's work now and drink later, she's off for a drink with Izzy.

Things are glum at the Nazirs' place. Yasmeen's invited some relatives over for iftar tonight (the meal served after sunset during Ramadan). She's also fussing over Sharif and she's sorted out a bag of Kal's clothes to take for charity. Alya removes Kal's jacket and sniffs it. Yasmeen tells her she has to try to move on but Alya does not want to do that.

Jason's got Tony's van and Tyrone, Chesney, Luke and Kirk are ready to go and sort out this T-shirt business. Jason suddenly gets a work call that means he can't go. He tells the rest of them to look after the van. Chesney loses the race and has to ride in the back.

Lloyd arrives back in the pub stinking of ling or mackerel or something after his unexpected fishing trip. He finds out that Steve's in Spain and Andrea's out.

Gail arrives in the pub and Sally asks about Michael's op. Gail has no idea. Lloyd's surprised. He thought she'd be camped out at the hospital. "It's a long story," Liz tells him. Alya arrives and asks the other factory workers for a glass of white wine. They're all reluctant. Apart from the fact she is a Muslim and doesn't drink, it's Ramadan - or "Ram-a-dam" as Sally calls it. Alya goes to get a drink herself. Gary asks what she's doing - he's there because Yasmeen was worried and called him. Alya stomps out.

Kirk's confused about what they're doing. The idea is to send Chesney to inquire about T-shirts with Joe and find out where his lock-up in, on the pretence of meeting him there later to check out the shirts. It works and Chesney finds out the address.

Gary and Alya talk. He tells her drink isn't the answer. "Stop shutting me out and talk to me," he says. Alya snaps that talking doesn't change anything. She demands that Gary take her to bed. He tells her he won't because she's not thinking straight. "You're dumped," she tells him, doing some more stomping away from him.

Kylie arrives in Michael's hospital room while Eileen's away at the hospital cafe. They chat and Kylie tells him yes, she's clean. She says she and David are not really back together - it's all an act. Or at least it is on David's part. She tells him Gail still loves him. They're interrupted by the arrival of David with the card from Gail.

Leanne's back from seeing her sister and has taken Simon with her to see Sharif. She says she's coping but Si's refusing to speak.

They leave and outside meet Jason, who asks after Eva. Leanne breaks it to him that Eva has met someone else and is engaged.

Luke's trying to pick the lock on the lock-up but without success. Tyrone tries the TV-cop thing of delivering a decent kick to the door but just hurts his foot. Chesney comes round with a pair of bolt-cutters - Tony's tools are in the back of the van. They open the door.

In the Rovers, Lloyd's going on about fish and quoting someone called Olav and describing Tromsø as like Eccles. Andrea arrives and is really annoyed by what Lloyd considers his manly stubble. She also doesn't like eau-de-halibut. Jason's arrived and wants a double whiskey. And another. He won't tell Sean why.

The boys have just found the box of T-shirts when they hear a vehicle arrive. They race out with the box and just get it and themselves into the van when they see another van fly past. Chesney's in the back and realises he's dropped his wallet so he shouts to the others and gets out. They obviously don't hear as Tony's van takes off and the box of shirts falls out of the open back door. Joe and his mates see the open lock-up, then see Chesney and chase him.

Gary's gone home to tell Anna he's been dumped. She tells him it's Alya's grief talking.

Leanne sees Alya on Maxine's bench. Alya snaps at her that because her dad is now dead, Leanne's nothing to do with the Nazir family now. Alya, who does a lot of stomping in this episode, stomps down the street and sees Jason with some cans of beer. She asks if she can join him.

Jack's playing with Kevin's old Scalextric cars when Tim arrives at the house. He and Kevin have a go.

The boys arrive back and open the back of the van in triumph - only to find no Chesney and no shirts. Chesney, meanwhile, is hiding behind a big rubbish bin.

Jason swigs on his beer and moans to Alya that every woman he's ever been with ends up dumping him. Alya tells him she and Gary are over. Nobody understands her. "You love people and then they go," she says. Jason agrees. Alya says she's too nice. She's stuck by the rules but it's no good because in the end life just kicks you in the teeth. She kisses Jason and tells she's going to do what she wants for a change. "I'm sick of being good."

The end.

No sooner do I finish one update but another is due to be written. This episode is brought to you courtesy of some different technology as sometime ago I bought a tv tuner for the pc and it sometimes records Corrie (and sometimes not).

This episode was written by Jan McVerry and is episode 8665 or series 57 episode 121. It was directed by Brett Fallis and the copyright remains the property of ITV to whom many thanks.

We open this evening near the "burgled" lockups with Chesney seeking to avoid another couple of youths. He throws some stones which distracts them in another direction enabling his escape.

Alya comes rushing downstairs with a part dressed Jason following her. (Do I hear the patter of tiny feet again?) She knows she has made a terrible mistake and indeed for someone so rooted this time the PTF really has scored an own goal. She dashes out of the house not explaining to Jason why she made the first move.

Luke, Kirk and Ty cannot raise Chesney, hardly surprising as Ty has found Ches's mobile in the back of the van. Although worried Luke reckons there is not much they can do. And they need to start cleaning because Fiz is returning.

In the hospital David is on the phone. Kylie is with him when Eileen arrives accompanied by a doctor. The operation has been a total success.

Dan arrives to take Liz on a date and tells her she looks great when she appears in a bright yellow ensemble. They depart together leaving Sarah and Andrea in charge (?) and it is observed that Liz must be keen - new dress and ready on time. OTOH Sarah seems less certain about Dan, saying that whilst Liz is a mug about men even she is not that much of a mug. Andrea and Sal look at each other and one says "pot" and the other says "kettle" behind Sarah's back, although she does in fact hear them!

Along the bar Gary and Lloyd are discussing Alya's earlier behaviour with Gary; Lloyd points out she has just lost her father but Gary says that unlike some women she does not play mind games. She has just lost the person she loves most in the world Lloyd adds.

The Sharif family cousins have gathered and Yasmeen is moaning that Dev is not pulling his weight but Zeedan says he can cope. Alya returns, she wants to go and get changed. At the top of the stairs she overhears the family talking about her saying that she is the golden girl and they will not have to worry about her. Little do they know what we know!

Luke, Ty and Kirk are discussing how hard Joe and his oppo are when there is knock at the door and Luke reckons Chesney has returned. Jo and his oppo march in. They know the lock up was entered - but have no idea it was Luke & Co. They have only just managed to resecure it. The oppo hands over the shirts!

Alya has come downstairs but the family are still discussing things. Alya is hungry but is prevented from eating by Zeedan who tells her that there is talk of selling the gym - which they would not do if it was her, but as it is him then it does not matter. [Aside - the gym needs a professional instructor - with Kal gone who is there who actually knows about training regimes, food supplements, safe training weights etc - has no-one considered health and safety?]. They just do not trust Zeedan with the big stuff. The doorbell goes and Zeedan opens the door to Gary. Yasmeen hears Gary's voice and summons him into the house. Gary is introduced as the man who saved Sharif's life. Alya and Gary come up with excuses to get outside for a talk.

Joe and his oppo are leaving when Ches appears at the end of the Street and has a go at Luke. Joe pulls his hoody off his head and the ginger hair gives him away. He puts an arm around Ches's neck and drags him back inside the house. Once inside they grab the TV and are trying to get past Ty and the others when there is a knocking at the door. The argument continues until the door is pushed open and Fiz returns! And that is her telly they are manhandling.

After the break Fiz lays down the law. The lads have had their money the other have had their T shirts. What about damage to the lock up. Luke coughs up £10. Then Fiz tells Joe and his oppo to do one or she will phone the police. They say the tv is worthless anyway and depart. Fiz says the girls are waiting outside to see their daddy and she adds "Some welcome this is." And flumps down on to the sofa as Luke puts the tv back.

Alya and Gary walk down the Street. The cousins have come from Keighley. They walk to the flats and Alya says she can look at it - she has to build up her tolerance. In a month or so it will be rebuilt and it will be easier for other people and they will forget it - but it will be more difficult for Alya. Alya has to return home as it is nearly Iftar (time to break fast once it is dark - for Muslims in the UK it is a long day when Ramadan is during the summer period as this year). Gary says that you need to keep the people you know close to you. He says he knows she is lost but their falling out was nothing (apart from her oops!). Gary says this is mad and sudden but it just feels right and he drops to one knee as Alya says do not do this. He asks her to marry him - not now, not next year but when she feels ready. He wants to be the One and spend the rest of his life with her. She says "I dumped you"!! So who then proposes? But Gary says she did not mean it - she was grieving and he has broad shoulder. She says she cannot marry him as he is asking for all the wrong reasons and she would be saying yes for even worse ones. She will never say yes. He needs to move on because she does not deserve him. He looks completely crestfallen.

The place is a mess and Fiz takes her anger out on Luke asking who he has been having round the house in her absence. He denies everything. It was a one-off that got out of hand. She wishes she had stayed with her mam. Anyway nothing placates Fiz and she tells Luke to pack and move out. She tells Ty not to argue. Luke goes to pack.

Back to the Sharif garden where Alya has been looking after the chicken. Zeedan comes out to find what has taken so long and so does nosy Sally next door who found an egg in Tim's trainer this morning. She made Tim leave the dirty trainers outside her conservatory. Alya snaps back that she did not know that Sally had a conservatory and stomps off indoors. Sally puts it down to hunger. Zeedan cannot work Alya out and she asks him if Saint Alya is allowed an "off day".

At the Dobbs' residence Ty is telling Fiz how good Luke has been whilst she has been away and how it has helped him both at home and work. But he is in with a bad crowd says Fiz. Ty says he was simply showing off. Luke comes downstairs with his bag and Fiz says she has been told she is over-reacting and it is agreed he can stay temporarily; it is not permanent. He agrees and goes to have a bath so they can have some time to themselves. Ty apologises - he had wanted everything perfect for her return but she knows they never do perfect and she moves over to him and kiss and hug whilst chuckling.

In the hospital as ever on Corrie the patient (Michael in this case) has nasal canula. Always. Yet in most cases they are unlikely to need additional oxygen and in my rare visits to hospitals I have not seen it. Do we have any medics who can explain why Corrie does this please? Michael wakes to find Eileen, David and Kylie at his bedside. Anyway it is the first day of the rest of his life and it should be easier now.

In the Rovers Jason is sat on his lonesome at the bar when Gary wanders in. Jason thinks Gary must know about earlier events and nearly opens his mouth when Gary explains about the failed proposal. He has been dumped from a great height. Jason can beat that - Eve has accepted a proposal from some French bloke. He is not sure which is worse - getting a no or not even being on the radar. Gary assures him that he will find someone and they order shots as they have joint sorrows to drown.

Liz and Dan return. Liz is in seventh heaven as she has just had her first Chateaubriand (and it reminds me that it is ages since I have had one, looks up menu of next outing; annoyed not on menu). She rhapsodises that it is like eating warm suede which melts in the mouth. Lloyd asks if that is a good thing. Dan departs almost immediately as he is working in Leeds in the morning. But next time they will be getting very drunk. And Liz herself floats off to bed. Lloyd is not sure about Dan calling him lightweight - a choice of an early night or a night with Liz and he opts for the early night? Lloyd would have made a different choice. Which does not go down well with Andrea.

Gary and Jason are discussing Alya - Gary fears it is not just grief but is in fact Alya wanting to rethink everything and taking a new look at her life and does not need him any more?

Kylie is assuring Michael that she came to see him - but also as he observes there was a second bird in the room nodding at David. She tells him not to hold his breath and gives him a farewell peck on his forehead. David observes another heart patient returning from smoking a cigarette. They fall to discussing second chances. Michael has been given one and she can do it if she sticks to her therapy. He is not pushing her towards therapy - no one is helping her. She has not asked him - well she is now. Anyone who can help her should come to a group therapy session. (The Platt family at a group therapy session; this could well be fun if any of the past history is recalled). She asks David to help her stay clean. If not for her then for the kids. Does he want her to fail - no he does not. She asks him to "walk the walk" if he can do it. David cogitates.

Jason knocks on the Nazir front door. Zeedan opens it and Sharif asks who it is. Alya comes to the door and sends Zeedan in. She closes the door and tells Jason that no-one must know what happened. So he must not come round shooting his mouth off. Jason tells her that she has to forget about events earlier in the day. She made a mistake, she is in a bad place. And she has to give Gary another chance. He is a top bloke who loves her so much. She tells him it is Ramadan - a time of purification of body and soul. Jason says she is a good person and God, Allah will forgive. Alya will not forgive herself. Alya says "Jason. I was a virgin". This reality brings Jason up short. No she has not slept with Gary. She admits that she wanted to drink alcohol and she wanted to drag him upstairs. But as soon as it was over she knew it was wrong. She has ruined everything in a few stupid minutes. She is distraught, crying and very ill at ease. Jason in the background is also unable to provide comfort.

Roll credits.

An interesting evening with a lot of action from the recent mothers:
Kylie asking for help to stay clean.
Fiz showing her mettle.
Eva - she may be engaged but clearly is coming back or it would not have been mentioned.

Of course we are about to lose Maria.

And given that she was celibate the next thing Alya should do is a morning after pill. As I bet she was not taking precautions.

And I am lusting after a Chateaubriand. It always tastes good in my view because they use a larger piece of meat and it serves two and so I always feel larger joints have a better taste. I wonder where we can go for one.

Monday 22 June

Written by Damon Rochefort Directed by Audrey Cooke

Anna and Gary are making butties for the after-christening party while Tim is singing to baby Miley on his knee. Anna recommends that Gary ask Alya to the christening though he doesn't think she'll want to go. Faye comes out of the bedroom, looking distinctly glum. Tim offers her the baby and the rest of the baby's bottle. She takes it and starts to feed Miley though doesn't look all that happy about it. She barely looks at Miley and only manages to lift a quarter of a smile at her.

Over at Number 1, Brian has made himself right at home, having dug through Ken's closet obviously, because he's wearing Ken's kimono at the breakfast table. He moans to Tracy about love hurting to a background song on the radio "If I Could Turn Back Time". Ken is rather circumspect to find his personal clothing on Brian's back. Tracy whispers to Ken in the kitchen wondering how long Brian is going to be underfoot. Brian leans back and orders a couple of soft boiled eggs to go with the toast and tea offered. He hasn't changed much, has he? Ok, maybe Ken left the dressing gown out for him but even so. Ken admonishes Tracy and says it likely won't be for long.

Kylie wants the family to come to a family counseling session. Gail doesn't know what she could contribute. David agrees to go. Gail reluctantly agrees. Kylie is going to invite Audrey and Nick as well.

Tim and Gary see Alya and Zeedan and mention the christening but Zeedan is busy at the gym and Alya says she's got work with Carla all day. After they leave, Zeedan questions his sister but she pretends everything is just fine with her and Gary.

Faye is changing Miley. Anna coos over the baby, Gary and Tim come in, and Izzy mentions that Carla is in Birmingham all day so that's Alya's lie exposed. Faye questions why they're having a christening when they never go to church and she, for one, doesn't believe in God anyway. "It's what you do" is Anna's reply. Anna goes to get dressed, Izzy and Gary tell Faye that it's important to Anna and she might enjoy it, too. Faye doesn't look so sure.

In the gym, Dev has worked out a sweat on the treadmill and picks up a couple of heavy looking free weights as Talisa walks in. Mary's wittering is cut short and Zeedan rushes over, concerned that Dev is taking on too much too soon. They aren't really heavy ones, mind you, but we don't know how much Dev has worked with them up to now. Zeedan takes them from Dev and hands over very small ones while Talisa and Mary look on, bemused. Dev objects, blushing. Talisa has come in with a proposal that she teaches a new class called Yoga-lates, a cross between yoga and pilates. Dev thinks it's a wonderful idea and asks Mary if she'd be interested. Mary, in the line of the night, says she's very flexible already, and "with a good wind, I can still get my ankles behind my ears". Ok, then. Zeedan seems to think it might be a good idea and Dev promises to square it with Zee later.

Fiz and Tyrone are in the cafe. Fiz is shocked at all the things that happened while she was gone. Cathy arrives and is introduced to Fiz. When Fiz mentions that she's heard Cathy has been in for breakfast every day, Cathy mutters something about a fridge-freezer being broken. Fiz sympathises. Ty and Fiz take off, with Fiz wondering if romance is on the cards for Roy!

Gary has come to the factory to see Alya in the office.

Faye and Tim wait outside with the baby buggy. Faye's attention is glued to her phone rather than the baby. Tim takes a call from Sally (who's in London you may recall). The baby starts crying and Tim is startled to hear Faye burst out and snap at the baby.

Gary apologizes for springing the proposal on her and then tells Alya he knows Carla's away. She apologizes. He takes a call from Anna who's hurrying him along. Gary says Alya is still invited if she wants to go, either the church or the flat after.

Fiz and Tyrone chat about fish cakes. She calls to Mary who turns her head as she's walking to answer and walks right into Cathy who drops her shopping. Fiz and Tyrone help her put it back in the bags. Cathy rushes off. Mary observes that Cathy is a bit eccentric (pots and kettles spring to mind here). Tyrone notes that Cathy had milk and ice cream in her shopping and had said earlier her fridge freezer was broken.

Across the road, a cab pulls up and Eileen and Michael get out, Michael having been released from hospital. Gail is pleased to see him but Michael turns his back on her. Kylie comes along and Michael does have time for her. Kylie wants a word. Gail and Eileen exchange glances.

AT the church, Windasses, Izzy, Craig and the Hodges all come in up the aisle. Jackson's mother has a hold of the baby for a minute and then hands her back to Faye. Billy is officiating at the rite. They all stand up.

Brian and Ken are having lunch. Brian is still moaning while Ken and Roy admit Julie is devoted to Dev. Brian offers to cook a meal for Roy and Ken later on. The invitation is gladly accepted. Eileen and Julie come in. Brian asks if they'd like to join them. Eileen politely declines but Julie comes over and starts shouting at Brian. She's with Dev and they have a future together. She wants him to leave her alone!

Audrey and Nick are waiting for Gail before they all walk around to the community centre. Gail is late, she wants to get changed before joining them. The rest of them walk around the corner. Nick and Audrey are both also mystified as to why they should be there and what they are supposed to do or say. Audrey reckons a chat over a bottle of wine will do just as much good, rather than airing dirty laundry to a stranger. Kylie thanks David before they follow the other two in. He admits it's for the kids. Michael comes up behind. Apparently he's been invited as well.

At the church, Tim gets up to do a reading. He has lyrics to an old song that his mother used to sing to him. It's a country music song, all about a mother's love. As he reads the words, we see Alya come into the church quietly behind. Tim doesn't get through it all, the emotion of it all getting the better of him. Anna comes up and rescues him, calling him soft, and reads the rest of it. Faye is sitting with the baby, glancing at her occasionally though there doesn't seem to be a speck of emotion on her face when she sees the sweet little face looking back up at her, cooing. Faye looks more and more distracted as Anna reads the words about the joy of being a mother.

In the community center, the councilor still hasn't arrived. Audrey is impatient. Michael says he's come for Kylie because she's been straight with him. Gail finally arrives and she's dressed in a raggedy old sweatshirt because a pipe had burst in the Bistro and she got drenched. She borrowed the top from Lost Property. The councilor finally arrives. Gail is embarassed at the state of herself, especially because Michael is there. The councilor starts... "Mrs. Platt..." and looks in Gail's direction. Audrey corrects her, it's Mrs. Rodwell at the moment. The councilor asks Gail why she's here. Gail, thinking it's all part of the program, admits she hates what drugs has done to the family. It's increasingly obvious that the councilor thinks Gail's the addict and when she asks how Gail got on drugs in the first place, David and Nick break up in giggles while Gail protests, horrified. Kylie looks exasperated and admits she's the addict.

The families are in front of Billy as he proceeds with the ceremony. Faye looks around the church and isn't paying attention. They all respond to a question but she didn't really hear it. Craig whispers that she's supposed to say "I will" but she starts shaking her head and tells them all she just can't do it. She runs out of the church with Tim following her.

Talisa is telling Julie about the yoga-lates. Julie isn't sure it's something for her. Talisa advises a diet change is also recommended and Dev smarms about asking her to help him change his eating habits. Julie is affronted, thinking he's casting aspersions on her cooking. Oh no, Dev starts to protest but Mary edges past him roughly and causes him to spill his cup of tea over himself. On purpose, likely. Julie takes him into the kitchen to clean up while Mary tells Talisa that Dev is easily distracted.

Faye is sitting on the ground outside the church. Tim comes and joins her. She's weepy and he puts his arm around her shoulder. She cries that she doesn't feel the way she's supposed to, the baby is always crying and messing and she can't do anything with her friends anymore. Tim promises to fix things but she says he isn't listening to her. She doesn't want to be a mum.

In the churchyard Tim has a very touching heart to heart with Faye. He tells her that she shouldn't worry about what other people think. She and Miley are all that matter and he promises they'll sort everything out. he's not sure how but they'll do it somehow. Anna comes along and Tim takes charge. He instructs her to take Faye and the baby home and he'll go and tell everyone there isn't going to be a christening.

At Kylie's family counseling session, she's the only one who isn't getting a word in edgewise. David jokes they might as well rename it an audience with Gail Platt ... or Rodwell ... or whatever she calls herself nowadays. The counselor says it's a good opportunity to get things off their chests and talk about the past. David hopes she's a fast writer because they've only got an hour.

In the Rovers Sarah's wondering how the rest of the family are getting on. Callum can't stop to chat – he has some ‘business' to attend to. Meanwhile, Ken and Brian are discussing this evening's planned dinner party with Roy.

In the church Jackson's mother is outraged that they've canceled the christening. Tim calmly tells her that it'll happen in due course but they need to let the dust settle.

Julie and Mary are doing the washing up together. Mary is trying hard to warn Julie about Dev without actually telling her. Dev comes in and Julie looks at him all dewy-eyed while Mary glowers in his direction. she's grown fond of Julie and she doesn't want to see her hurt.

Back at the church Jackson's parents go to have a word with Tim. they've been thinking. In view of how Faye's not coping they suggest Miley would be better off going to live with them. But Tim's not having any of it. He tells them Faye will get there in the end and that Miley is staying with them.

In the cafe Fiz and Ty are teasing Roy about tonight's dinner party. They think it sounds all a bit too highbrow and intellectual for their taste. Cathy is standing at the counter and Roy asks if she'd like to join him but before she has a chance to reply Fiz suggests she'd be much better off going for a drink in the Rovers with her and Ty. Fiz says she reckons Cathy's just like her – she gave up astrophysics for Lent several years ago and never looked back. Cathy, who seems incapable of showing enthusiasm for anything, reluctantly accepts Fiz's invitation.

The counselor is doing her best to get the session back on track and asks the family to say something positive about each other. David's contribution is to say he likes it when Kylie doesn't take drugs or lie. Kylie tells him if he's not going to take this seriously he knows where the door is. She wants this to work for the sake of their kids and says that they deserve better.

Back at home Faye doesn't want to talk about what happened at the christening. Anna loses her temper while Tim tries to act as the voice of reason. it's clear Anna has reached the end of her tether and he tells her to go and have a lie down. As soon as he's on his own Tim makes a phone call to Jackson's parents, Greg and Josie. He asks if they can go round to see him.

The counseling session is finally over. As they all troop out Michael tells Kylie that at least everyone turned up to support her which has to be a start. Kylie pulls David to one side and tells him that his sniping has got to stop. If they're going to stand up to Callum then they have to do it together.

In the Rovers, Billy's downing a pint. He needs it after the day he's had. Meanwhile Callum comes in with a carrier bag. Sarah is quite snippy with him until she sees what's inside - a very-expensive looking designer bag. Her eyes light up and she asks what the occasion is. Callum tells her he just thought she deserved a treat ...

Tim meets Izzy in the street. She asks after Faye. Tim tells her he reckons that Miley is going to remain a heathen for the time being. Izzy says she'll pop in and see Faye tomorrow.

Sarah is still drooling over her new bag. She says it must have cost a fortune. she's obviously wondering where the money's come from to pay for it but her desire for the gift wins over her conscience.

Brian is serving up the food at his dinner party – a vegetarian cassoulet for Ken and Coq au Vin for everyone else. Amy is not impressed. she's decided she doesn't like French food. Her mother hasn't even bothered to turn up.

Meanwhile, Dev, Julie and Mary are also sitting down for their evening meal. Julie says she saw Brian today. Dev's eyes light up and he says that he always thought Brian was a decent and intelligent man. Julie misinterprets his reaction as jealousy whereas Mary has Dev's full measure. Julie takes Dev's hand and tells him lovingly that she knows which side her bread's buttered. Mary glowers at Dev and comments that some people like to have their bread buttered on both sides.

Tracy finally turns up for Brain's dinner but they soon wish she hadn't bothered. She manages ruin all their attempts at a civilized conversation before sending Amy out to buy fish and chips.

Tim is talking to Greg and Josie. They tell him they have the time and the space to look after Miley and appear to have her best interests at heart. Tim says he'll need to think about it and talk to Faye and Anna of course.

Back at the dinner party Tracy's turned her attention to Brian. She bluntly asks him how long he's intending to stay and freeload off them. He says for as long as it takes to win back Julie's heart. Tracy suggests in that case it's time he took some action and Brian concedes she has a point.

Meanwhile in the Rovers Fiz wonders how Roy's getting on. She and Ty are having a drink with Cathy and but the conversation's hard going. Then Cathy mentions how her late husband used to be good a quizzes and the memory makes her face light up. It gives Fiz an idea and she suggests Cathy should join their team at the quiz night on Friday.

At a nearby table Alya and Gary are discussing Faye. She puts a sympathetic hand on him then pulls away. Gary tells Alya she can put her arm around him if she wants but suddenly she says she has something to do and hurries off, leaving Gary looking bemused.

Round at the Platts' Kylie is trying to talk to David when Callum and Sarah turn up. Callum wants to see Max but Kylie tells him in no uncertain terms that he can't. Max is in bed, Callum has set times when he's allowed to see him and this is hers and David's house. There's no arguing with Kylie so Callum and Sarah leave.

Tim goes round to see Anna. He tells her about Greg and Josie's visit and how they're prepared to look after Miley. Anna can't believe what was discussed but Tim says he thinks it may be for the best.

Wednesday 24 June

Tim has arrived to see Faye and Miley, and is helping make up bottles, while Anna holds the baby. Faye tells them she's off into town to see her friend. When she's gone, Anna and Tim discuss how disinterested Faye is in the baby and how they should have seen that she's just not ready for it all.

Carla and Nick are in the cafe when Liz comes in and informs Nick that today is Erica's birthday – her 50th. Nick is thrown into panic and tells Carla she's got to help him sort something out that Erica will never forget. Carla suggests he makes some calls and throws her a party.

Back at the flat, Tim asks Anna if she's thought any more about what Jackson's parents said. Anna says she doesn't want to think about it. Tim says she should think about it, because they can't carry on the way things are going. Anna doesn't want to let the baby go, she loves her so much, but Tim points out that Faye doesn't and they can't force her into feeling something that she doesn't. He's going round to see Greg and Josie later when he finishes work.

Mary is holding a meeting in the pub for the quiz team, which consists of Chesney, Norris, Roy, Tyrone and Fiz and Cathy, who is late. She's being very bossy and Norris wonders who died and put her in charge.

Fiz goes into the ladies and finds Cathy there, having a wash. She's flustered and embarrassed and tells Fiz that her boiler has broken.

Liz is in the bistro with Dan and Audrey comments that they make a nice couple, it's nice to see someone happy for a change. Gail is sniffy and tells Audrey she doesn't know why she's even there. Audrey reminds her that it's Erica's birthday and she's having a baby with Gail's son. "Don't remind me," sniffs Gail. Liz tells Nick she's surprised Erica was up for a party, and Nick confesses that it's a surprise. "Oh dear," says Liz, and goes on to tell him that Erica is a bit sensitive about her age. "Why didn't you tell me before I organised this?" asks Nick. Liz replies that he didn't ask. Just then Erica walks through the door. "Surprise!" says Nick. Erica looks decidedly underwhelmed!

Tim and Anna arrive at the home of Miley's other grandparents and are invited inside.

Back in the bistro, Gail still is in a very bad humour and tells Liz that she doesn't think Erica is right for Nick. Over near the bar, Bethany remarks that it must be weird to be knocked up at her age.

Nick quietly tells Erica that if he'd known she'd hate it he would have done something else. "Next time try jewellery," she says. Gail then hands Erica a card which tells her everything that happened the year she was born, but Erica is not pleased to receive it and decides to go home.

Anna and Tim are sitting in the living room at Greg and Josie's house. Greg says that if Miley comes to live with them she will not go without. He adds that he knows bringing up a baby isn't cheap and offers a cheque which may go some way towards the expenses of the last few months. Anna is affronted, and wonders if he thinks he can buy the baby off them. She gets up to leave, but Josie begs her to stay. Anna tells her that she will stay, but only because she wants what's best for the baby and for Faye.

Back in the bistro, Audrey tells Gail she hopes she's pleased with herself. "All I did was give her a card," says Gail, acting all innocent. Dan suggests to Liz that they go somewhere else, just the two of them, and Bethany sneaks a crafty swig of some champagne when no one is looking. Meanwhile, Carla and Nick are chatting and getting on very well.

Dev and Julie are in the gym for Talisa's yoga class. Suddenly Julie opens her eyes to find Brian sitting on the floor next to her. She's furious.

Tim goes out into the garden where Jackson is kicking a football about. He asks how Jackson feels about Miley coming to live there. He thinks it may be weird but it is what his mum and dad want, and he wants to help out too.

In the bistro, Nick and Carla are sitting at the bar. He tries to call Erica but she's not answering her phone, he thinks she's ignoring him.

Mary is still lecturing the pub quiz team, she reckons there is room for improvement. Chesney tells her they are trying. Mary says he'll just have to try harder, but Chesney is fed up and goes off home. Fiz and Tyrone are at the bar, talking about Cathy, they think it's odd that first her fridge-freezer was on the blink and now her boiler has packed up. Fiz got the impression that Cathy was hiding something, and Tyrone says he felt that as well, so when he takes her drink over he tells her that he knows a plumber and can put him in touch with her. Cathy snaps at him that it's all sorted now, and then says she's tired and leaves.

Back in the gym, Brian tries to offer Julie some advice. She tells him to go away. He replies that he will go away if she will go with him. She tells him she will not go round the world with him, she wouldn't even go round the block with him.

Anna and Tim arrive home. Faye tells them that Miley is asleep and she goes off to her room. Anna is forced to admit that Faye is not going to bond with Miley and she would probably be better of with Greg and Josie.

Nick and Carla are still at the bar in the bistro, drinking. He tells her she's a good person, funny and beautiful, but his life is such a mess. Carla thinks that Erica is lucky to have him.

Tim and Anna explain to Faye that Miley can go to live with Jackson and his parents, but she will still be able to go and visit. They just want her and Miley to be happy. Faye says she knows Miley is just a little baby and none of it is her fault, but she'll never feel about her the way she is supposed to. Anna says she knows that, but it has to be her decision. Faye gets up and kisses the baby on the head. "I'm sorry," she says, and rushes off to her room.

Nick and Carla are now walking down the Street to the cafe, slightly inebriated. He bets her she can't walk a straight line, so she does it, amid much laughing and joviality, and they end up sharing a passionate kiss! When they pull apart, he says he's sorry, she says it was the drink, and goes off inside.

Anne Logan.

Friday 26 June

Hello, here's the next Friday episode.

It's morning in the cafe and David and Nick have breakfast together. Carla comes downstairs in a rush and tells Roy she'll clear up the bathroom later. Roy offers her toast and on her way out of the door she asks Nick if he'll be at the quiz night. She'll see him there later. Liz and Erica come in but they have to sit on their own, Liz says, because they're discussing arrangements for the quiz.

Anna packs up Miley's stuff. Tim seems quite glum and he's cuddling one of the baby's toys. Anna tells him it's for the best. Their priority now has to be Fay. And no, Fay's not saying a tearful goodbye. She's on her phone and Miley is asleep in Anna's room.

Craig asks Gary if Fay's coming to school but is told she isn't because the other family are coming to pick up Miley later.

As they leave the cafe, David teases Nick about Carla fancying him.

Liz and Erica chat about the quiz. Ken Barlow is setting the questions so Liz is relying on Erica to liven things up a bit. Over at the counter, Fiz tests Roy on the rules of the road. She asks if he's heard from Cathy. But there's no need to ask because Cathy's just come in. Ken comes in to deliver the questions and several pages of tie-breakers. Liz tries to ask tactfully whether they're going to be too hard. Ken tells her they shouldn't be too easy. Liz looks worried, until Erica checks the questions and finds one about Kim Kardashian. Ken admits Deirdre helped with some of the popular culture questions. Erica says there are rounds on pop music, celebrity gossip and Jackie Collins novels.

Nick's sending Andy off in the van to pick up some wine. Andy sees Michael and tries to say something but Michael just turns away from him.

In the factory, flowers have been delivered for Julie, who thinks Dev's the most thoughtful man in the world - and then discovers they're from Brian. There's a message asking for her to come outside now. Julie huffs that she's too busy to go out and Carla points out it's lunchtime. She goes running out and interrupts Brian's speech about having golden tickets and wanting to share them with her. She screams that she doesn't want his tickets or a round-the-world trip. As he turns away, Brian tells Ken he's not going to give up.

When Alya goes to the cafe to get sandwiches for the machinists who are working through their lunch, Gary tells her about Miley. Jason comes in for some pies and Gary tells him to entertain Alya. Awkward.

Izzy watches TV with Fay. She tells Fay she came close to giving up Jake but now she's glad she didn't. Tim and Anna come in and tell her off for trying to change Fay's decision.

Nick's looking for Carla but Sean says she's had to go to Bradford for a meeting. She'll be back later. Nick tells David he has to talk to Carla and admits they kissed. David says he has to make up his mind between Carla and Erica.

In the bistro, they're talking about quizzes when Steph takes a call from Andy. He's had a bump in the van and he's at the hospital. She rushes off. Erica also leaves and just as she gets outside she gets a spasm of pain that stops her in her tracks.

Tyrone's giving Roy a final driving lesson and is about to practice the emergency stop when Roy brakes very hard indeed. It seems there's no need to practice because he's just successfully avoided hitting Cathy, who has stepped into the road. She's dropped a lot of papers and Tyrone and Roy and Craig help her pick them up. She's full of apologies but grabs the paperwork off them quickly saying she's just got a bit behind with it all. A taxi beeps behind them and Roy and Tyrone have to go.

Alya talks to Jason about her guilt. She feels as if they have stabbed Gary in the back. Jason tries to assure her that he's not going to say anything. Alya just says it's all a total mess. Jason's worried she plans to tell Gary. He tells her that confessing is not going to make anyone feel better.

Julie talks to the twins on Maxine's bench and Brian comes up behind them. Julie tells him this is getting creepy. Brian tells her he's been selfish. "Look at you. You've got a family, the one thing you've always wanted."

Lloyd's been to the hospital to drop off a fare and on the phone he tells Eileen that Andy was there. There aren't enough details for Michael, who says he's going to see Nick to find out more.

David's still going on about Nick having to choose between Erica and Carla when Steph and Andy arrive back from the hospital. He's fine but the van isn't. They go and sit down just before Michael rushes in, obviously worried about Andy. He's a bit embarrassed that Andy hears all this and tells him he's glad he's all right. Andy thanks him for coming round.

Fay, Anna, Tim and Izzy wait with baby Miley. Izzy is still annoying Fay, who decides she's going out for a walk.

In the pub, Norris tries to lay down rules for his team. He doesn't want anyone getting over-excited and shouting out the answers. They're waiting for Roy and Cathy to join the team.

Gail's at one end of the pub, staring at Michael at the other end.

Erica tests the mike and welcomes everyone to the quiz. Then it's off with the first question, which is surely three: Who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2014, which country did they represent and what was unusual about them?

Gary's tidying up in the cafe when Alya comes in. She doesn't fancy the quiz. She wants to talk. Gary locks the door.

Question 20: What sport did Michael Buble dream of playing when he was a small boy? That's the end of round one. David's getting more and more grumpy with Gail, who claims she knew more answers than she really did. Carla comes in and joins the McIntyre-Platt-Tilsley team.

Erica's had another spasm of pain. Nick goes to the bar and Erica asks if Carla's on his team. Then she asks him if they should buy somewhere round here. She has this vision of their baby and Nick playing in the garden. She asks him to think about it. Then another pain comes. Liz asks if she's OK but Erica isn't. Liz tells Nick he has to get Erica to hospital. As they leave, Carla looks upset.

The end.

Good evening. The world of Corrie often works to a different beat but I do wonder sometimes if the team are trying too hard. A lot of stories and to my mind we have lost something. Modern day pace is one thing - but we no longer get down some down time with a group of lads having a drink and a chat - but not moving any stories onwards. On reflection last week was a case in point - all the fuss over some T shirts to provide a strong re-entry for Fiz to remind us of the strong character hiding under the ginger frizz! Was it needed?

And as I mentioned recently two serious blunders in my view:
a) why did no-one mention Kev's loss of his son?
b) why has no-one brought Sarah and Faye together in some way?

Roy, who employs Anna, Jason and Todd would all be aware of Sarah's teenage pregnancy. (And Bethany is a similar age to Faye). I cannot believe that it would be impossible for Jason to tell Gary that she should talk to Sarah.

Corrie team - come on. You are not doing us justice when you do not do your jobs properly. I know that there has been an apology over Kev - but it is not right. It just should not happen.

Tonight is episode 8670, series 57, episode 126, written by Susan Oudot and directed by Audrey Cooke with copyright remaining the property of ITV.

We open in the cafe where Gary is seeking to convince Alya of his love for her. He wants to marry her - and she is not say no - but before she finishes there is knock at the door. Faye comes in - everyone hates her. Everyone expects her to be upset over the baby going - but she isn't and they are going to be disappointed in her and she does not want to be there. Gary gives her a pep talk telling her she will eventually be glad she is doing this for Miley. He and Alya will go with her.

At the hospital Nick and Liz are sitting and waiting. Apparently they saw Erica quickly.

Eileen has taken over the quiz at the Rovers. The Platt family are worried about Nick and cannot reach him as it is just going to voicemail.

Nick goes into Erica's room and asks "Baby?" and Erica simply cries in response.

Tim if cradling Miley and talking to her; he did not think he would fall for a little bundle like her - but she has knocked his socks off. He touchingly says he will be there for her no matter where either of them are. Faye cannot be found says Anna.

In the hospital the doctor can offer no explanation - these things happen. She would like Erica to stay in overnight to allow her blood pressure to stabilize. Erica sends Nick on his way and will not let him kiss her; once he has gone she starts sobbing.

Tracy is helping Amy with her homework. Brian comes in and he is close to admitting defeat - he cannot compete with Dev and the kids and Julie is a domestic goddess. Brian says that he does not wish to fly solo on his boat trip and unless Tracy can magic up another Julie Carp he cannot impose on Ken's good nature and feels a proper rent book is needed - which Tracy is not happy about.

In the Street Miley's belongings are handed over and Faye eventually appears with Gary and Alya.

Nick arrives in the Rovers and tells David that Erica has lost the baby. Carla overhears. Nick has a go at Gail and Michael also hears the outcome. Nick says he only came to pass on the news and goes. At the bar Liz is saying Erica will be totally devastated. Norris wants to know who won the quiz and Liz just gives him the cup and he has the temerity to ask after his free drinks.

Car loaded it is time for Miley to go. Craig, Gary and Faye give Miley a final kiss and then Anna asks for confirmation that they get home safely. And eventually Tim has to say goodbye as well.

After the break Eileen sits down with Michael and tells him that he and Gail need to talk to each other. After some urging he gets up and goes to Gail to offer his sympathies. He assures Gail that Nick did not mean the abuse he gave her earlier. He goes on "we always lash out at the ones we are closest to". Gail says thank you and then Michael edges away nervously and sits down.

On the Street Amy is telling Tracy about Lola's mum and the lodger who are getting married. Tracy says she can be committed if she tries marrying Brian. They meet Julie and Tracy tries to convince her to give Brian another hearing. Julie assures them she has no interest in anything Brian Packham has to offer. Any observes, once Julie has gone, that she will not be going with Brian - so why does he not find another Julie Carp? Tracy thinks this is a great idea.

Arguments about the quiz answers continue. Eileen tells Michael that Gail still loves him - and he should not give up on it easily as finding love at their ages is difficult. Michael looks disconcerted. Julie arrives and offers them both a drink.

Anna is re-assuring Tim that handing Miley over is the right thing to do. Tim hugs her and departs.

Tracy is on the phone to Julie. They have found another Julie Carp for Brian to meet him on Monday and when he comes in they tell him he is meeting Julie Carp - just not which one.

Alya and Gary walk down the Street - she has something to tell him and she cannot get it out. Finally she says she does want to marry him So he asks again and she says yes again. They kiss - but they cannot say anything to the family at the right time. As the hug we see her troubled face over his shoulder.

David and Nick sit down for a drink. David sympathises - it must be tough. Nick already had a mental image of a child and Erica is hardly even talking to him. Carla arrives and David departs to let them talk.

Anna sits on the sofa and pulls a little white bear out from under her. Faye comes in and observes how quiet it is. She sits and Anna gives her a huge cuddle and they cuddle each other and the bear.

Back in the Bistro Nick admits he has always wanted kids and Carla remembers losing her own daughter. She says that is huge and unfair and Erica will be blaming everyone and everything. Nick wanted to tell Erica about what happened between them. Carla says Erica will just want to curl up into a little ball and forget about everything. But Erica will come through because she has Nick to support her. Carla had no-one to support her when it happened. She rejects Nick's comforting grasp, kisses him and walks out of the bistro.

Roll credits.

See you next week.

Monday 29 June

Written by Simon Crowther Directed by Durno Johnston

Gail's dressed to the nines, lippy and all, and practicing how she'll greet Michael should they run into each other.

Michael is in the pub with Eileen, Lloyd and Andrea who is teasing Eileen and Michael about their lunch being a double date. Just friends, they both insist. Michael mentions getting more receipts for the cab office, thus turning it into an official business lunch. Eileen orders more drinks.

Michelle is talking to Steve who seems concerned about the dog.

Audrey is in the cafe complaining about her pinching new shoes. She asks after Roy's new lady friend. Just friends, thank you. Gail arrives and Audrey notices that Gail looks very smart. Gail insists she wasn't hoping to run into Michael. Audrey mentions that she saw Michael and he asked after her. Gail is very interested but dismayed when Audrey said she told Michael that Gail was doing well. Better that, than tell him she's miserable and in the doldrums, Audrey advises.

Ken mentions to Tracy that Roy has a driving test scheduled for the next day. Tracy can't believe the world is quite ready for Roy on the streets. Brian comes downstairs, all suited and booted for his lunch date with "Julie Carp". Brian thanks Tracy for arranging it but wonders why Tracy keeps referring to the lady in question with her full name. Ken looks suspicious. Tracy is a bit cryptic upon questioning and only says that she's looking forward to discussing the round-the-world trip with him.

Talisa has taken a phone call from her husband who is guilting her into coming home. Dev advises that she should confront him and be honest but she doesn't think that's as easy as it sounds. Dev thinks she should tell her husband over the phone again how she feels rather than in person. Talisa muses that the world would be so much better if everyone was honest about how they feel rather than pretending. Dev takes her hands and tells her there should be no more pretending. She pulls away and leaves just as Julie arrives, twittering about work. She asks about Talisa and is told Talisa's husband won't take No for an answer even though he's been told it's over. Julie prophetically remarks that some people couldn't see what's in front of them if it was written on a sign. Oh dear. She kisses Dev and offers to make lunch but he declines the offer and decides to leave. She looks a bit thoughtful, as if she may be hearing the jingling of pennies about to drop?

Brian arrives at the Bistro where a forty-ish looking blonde is waiting. She looks nice, kind of pretty, and stands when he arrives to introduce herself. Julie Carp. Brian realises there's been a misunderstanding when she says they exchanged messages just last night. Tracy arrives to see the results of her work and gleefully tells Julie that Brian was excited about her messages. She leaves them to talk about the trip and get to know each other. Julie is newly divorced and has always longed to travel. She asks after Brian's "situation". He says it's complicated but Tracy interrupts and says he's single and anxious to get away on the trip.

In the busy pub, Jason and Kirk mention poker. Dan the Brewery Man's ears perk up and he asks them if they've ever played. Turns out Kirk has only played once and Jason only twice (though I do find that hard to believe). Dan smells a couple of easy marks and suggests a game in the back room of the pub. Jason's keen, Kirk a bit less so. Over in a booth, Eileen confirms that Michael hasn't told anyone about the kiss. Julie arrives, looking upset. She becoming suspicious of Dev and Talisa.

Dev and Talisa are in the cafe sitting at a table. Maria is getting coffees, mentioning Audrey's new shoes blisters. Kirk and Jason arrive, talking about the poker game. They reckon they might end up playing for matchsticks, bless 'em, and Kirk decides he'll stock up on the wooden currency, just in case. Kirk shows Jason and Gary his poker face which isn't so bad but his face showing he has a bad hand is full of pain as he cradles one of his hands. Doh. Gary laughs with Jason and is subsequently invited to the game. Roy is invited but declines. Gary mentions Roy's driving test and all the advice the lads give him doesn't help with his mounting case of nerves. At the table, Dev and Talisa are talking. She tells him she doesn't know what she would have done without him and that he's liberated her. He takes his hands in hers just as Brian walks in and spots this affectionate gesture.

Michelle and Liz talk about the upcoming poker game. Liz asks Michelle to make up a few sandwiches.

Gail has come back home, defeated and goes upstairs.

Ken and Brian are in the pub and Ken has apologized for Tracy. Brian explains he and the other Julie Carp parted on good turns though he suspects she's a fantasist. He looks over longingly at our Julie Carp who's still sitting with Eileen. He approaches the booth and tells her about his lunch date, the one he thought he'd be meeting her for to discuss the trip. She's not impressed, less so because of the excess of Ken's cologne that he'd borrowed. Brian explains that Tracy and Amy had engineered the whole thing. Julie asks him to leave but he manages to tell her that he saw Dev and Talisa hand in hand, whispering possible sweet nothings. He warns Julie against Dev's womanizing ways, "I've seen his sort before. All hair oil and shopworn charm" Julie does take all this on board.

After the break, she's gone and Eileen is talking to Michael about Gail. Michael wonders why everything had to go so wrong. He wants to forgive Gail but he can't. Eileen encourages him to talk to Gail and get her side of the story. Michael admits he does miss the comfy bed. Eileen warns him not to tell Gail about their "moment" Michael asks her to come with him for moral support. Um. No.

Gail has a piece of chocolate cake and picks it up in one hand, but it falls apart easily and she's got chocolate all over herself. As she tries to clean it up, there's a knock on the door. She puts her jacket on to try to cover the mess and opens the door. It's Michael.

Amy and Tracy are giggling over Brian. Ken chides them but they are not contrite in the least. Tracy calls Ken a drama queen and wonders what kind of woman agrees to go on a trip with a stranger anyway. Someone lonely, Ken says. It doesn't seem to matter to the dastardly duo that Brian was mortified and they don't look inclined to apologize when he demands that they do. Brian arrives home just then. Tracy defends herself. The real Julie doesn't want to know and it could have worked out. Amy does apologize though it doesn't sound overly sincere.

Gail is trying to explain to Michael that she acted in his best interest. She points out they were so happy together and tries to blame it all on Andy who lied first. She was cornered and admits she made a bad decision. She promises no more secrets or lies and begs him to take her back. He seems like he's about to agree but he decides to come clean. The reason for his heart problem was due to his kiss with Eileen. Gail's face distorts in horror and rage. Michael tries to defend himself, one little kiss. Eileen's been a good friend ... Gail's temper explodes, accusing Eileen of waiting for the chance to get at Gail for years. No matter how Michael desperately tries to explain, Gail isn't having it and storms out looking for her erstwhile rival. This obviously means war!

Talisa is using Dev's computer in the shop office. Dev asks Talisa that if her marriage is really dead, why is she still there with him? She tells him he's sweet but he describes their connection as "powerful". She admits he saved her life. Dev tells her that although he's with Julie, it isn't going anywhere. Talisa is definitely uncomfortable with this turn in the conversation. Out in the shop, you know who's just walked in. Julie, of course, as is the way of all soaps. She stands there and hears Dev telling Talisa he can't stop thinking of her and he is in love with Talisa. Julie turns and leaves. Dev moves in closer and asks if Talisa feels the same. But he's not given the answer he longs to hear. She says No.

Gail is knocking on Eileen's door but it's Jason that answers. Jason doesn't know where his mother is. He notices Michael peeking around the corner of Number 8 watching Gail and then frantically trying to get hold of Eileen on the phone but she's not answering. Where is she?

She's in the salon. We can see her phone buzzing on another chair while she's talking to Audrey and Maria about pinchy shoes.

Gail has gone to Streetcars. Lloyd says they'd had lunch earlier but doesn't know where Eileen is now.

In the pub, Kirk and Jason are sitting at the bar. Dan the Brewery Man notices that Kirk has a huge lot of matches and teases him that he shouldn't be playing with matches. Kirk counts out his matchsticks. Dan realizes Jason, Kirk and Gary haven't got a lot of cash between them and probably realizes the night isn't going to be so profitable. Liz laughs and asks Dan to go easy on them. Gail comes in looking for Eileen. Liz says that Eileen mentioned getting her hair done.

In the salon, Eileen's phone is still vibrating and going unnoticed. Eileen remarks how relaxed she feels. Gail walks in and glares at her in the mirror. "I hope it was worth it" is her opening shot.

Find out in the next part how that all comes out. I doubt it will be pretty.

It all kicks off in the salon as Gail reacts to the news of Eileen's moment of madness with Michael. Eileen is forced to protect herself with a large laundry basket as Gail flings bottles of shampoo and conditioner at her. Gail is even more outraged when Eileen tells her it didn't mean anything as Michael's not her type. In Gail's eyes this means Eileen did it deliberately to spite her.

Nick meets Carla in the street. She asks after Erica. He says she's got to stay with her mum but won't answer Nick's calls or texts. Any further conversation is interrupted as Gail and Eileen take their row out outside and it turns into a full-on cat fight. Norris, who's busy with his broom, is all ears. Nick wades in and pulls the two apart. Gail shouts it's no wonder Michael had a nasty turn with his heart, having Eileen slobbering all over you would be enough to put anyone in intensive care.

In the corner shop, Talisa is desperately trying to explain to Dev that he's got the wrong end of the stick and that there could never be anything between them. She tells him that Julie is lovely and deserves better and that he needs to pull himself together and appreciate what he's got before it's too late.

Meanwhile out in the street Todd, David and Kylie have joined the spectators. When Todd makes a comment Gail tells him to shut up and says that the rotted apple didn't fall far from the tree. "Whereas your David is a prince among men," responds Eileen sarcastically. Gail tells Eileen that she thought she was scraping the barrel with Barney McGrew* and his missus sleeping in the next room but this is something else (*a reference to a fireman in a children's tv series). "I know he walks upright and is breathing ... just ... but even for you this isn't a good catch, is it?" asks Gail, referring to Michael. Gail doesn't notice that the man in question has just appeared round the corner as she continues to describe him as a failed burglar with a dodgy heart and a fondness for Y-fronts. Eileen points out Gail married him. "Yeah, and a fat lot of good it did me," declares Gail as she glances up and sees Michael standing there. He tells her to carry on as it's good to know where he stands.

The poker game is in full swing and it looks as though Dan is doing rather well when Carla and Michelle come into the room. They tell Jason about Eileen's fight with Gail and he decides he needs to go and check his mum's alright. It's mid-hand but Carla says that's no problem, she can take his place at the table if nobody else minds. Dan Makes some sexist comments about women not making good poker players as they are risk averse but as Carla lays a wodge of cash on the table Gary says if that's being risk-averse he'd hate to see her when she's being reckless. Dan looks smug as his hand beats Carla's. He takes the pile of cash just as Liz comes in to take their drinks order. He tells her he's taking her to a club with a Michelin starred chef tomorrow night.

Mary comes bouncing in but her face falls when she sees Julie sitting on the sofa clutching a glass of wine with tears streaming down her face. Julie tells her that Dev has fallen in love with another woman and is upset to learn that Mary had already suspected something but didn't choose to tell her. Mary is upset, too and tells Julie Dev is worth fighting for but Julie says he's not – Dev's broken her heart.

Back at the Poker game the tables have turned. Gary and Kirk watch in admiration as Dan throws down his hand and Carla sweeps up her winnings. Liz and Michelle come in and Gary and Kirk decide to call it a night. After Carla and Michelle have left Liz senses Dan's a bit miffed at losing. He's more put out by the fact that he lost to a woman. Liz points out that she's a woman and Dan says there's no danger of him forgetting that as he moves in to prove the point.

Dev and Talisa arrive home where Julie is wearing an apron and a bright, albeit false, smile on her face. Dev looks bemused and Talisa squirms as Julie announces that "the little woman" has taken care of tea and that she's "still good for something". She says she's cooked Dev's favourite, or that it used to be, but she struggles to keep up with him because he's nothing if not fickle in his tastes. Julie tells Dev to entertain their house guest and that she will do the dishing out in a minute ...

As Talisa, Dev and Julie eat their meal Dev comments the chicken is tender. Julie, full of false brightness, says he knows all about being tender and how to sweep a woman off her feet; it's putting them down again that he struggles with. Julie's expression begins to change, along with her conversation, and it all comes out. Talisa tries to tell her there's nothing going on but Julie ignores her and says that she overheard everything at the shop today.

Round at Eileen's Michael is apologising. Eileen says at least they only kissed. Jason says imagine what had happened if they'd gone further and Michael had actually pegged it. Eileen says she thought her days of fighting on the cobbles with Gail had long gone but Jason reckons they'll still be at it when they're both on Zimmer frames. Eileen vows never to do it again, no matter how much Gail provokes her. Jason points out that having Michael staying with them will provoke Gail further. Eileen agrees and tells Michael that she wants him gone by tomorrow morning.

Back at Dev's, Talisa is listening awkwardly while Dev declares to Julie that he's been a complete fool, he didn't realise what he had with her and he doesn't want to lose it. Julie replies that she thinks that horse has already bolted. Talisa finally gets a word in and tells Julie she's never been interested in Dev, or any other man come to that because she's gay. Julie starts to laugh as she sees the expression on Dev's face. A bewildered Dev asks why Talisa didn't tell him. Talisa says she thinks it's time she left. Julie agrees and says she won't be far behind.

At Platt Towers Kylie's wishing she'd filmed Gail and Eileen's fight. She says it'll go viral next time. Nick declares there won't be a next time. He tells his mother it's got to stop. He puts her in her place when he reminds her that he's just lost a baby that he really wanted and in the meantime he had to cope with her circus. He's sick and tired of the madhouse and leaves just as Audrey arrives. She's also annoyed as she's only just managed to clean up the mess Gail made in the salon. Gail's upset because she was so close to reconciling things with Michael. She wonders if she still can. Audrey tells her they're not the ones she needs to convince.

In the Rovers Norris is relishing the fact that he witnessed Gail and Eileen's fight. He points out that as the neighbourhood watch coordinator he's the eyes and ears of the street. Michelle comments that he's certainly the mouth. Carla notices that Kirk's drinking a half pint. He explains that he's skint after the poker game and he doesn't want to face Beth. Carla insists on giving him some of her winnings. He's reluctant to take it but she says that it was Dan she wanted to give the whipping to, not him. She advises him to stick to playing Happy Families in future.

Liz and Dan are talking about their meal out and Liz suggests they should find a way to work up and appetite. Dan says he thought she didn't want to rush things but Liz says it's a woman's prerogative to change her mind. Liz puts Michelle in charge of the bar so that she and Dan can go upstairs "for an early night"...

While Julie sits and talks to Dev, Talisa is beating a hasty retreat with her worldly goods. She apologises to Julie who tells her it's fine and that she's done her a favour. Dev starts to say that if he hadn't gone to India ... but Julie says that it would have happened in Weatherfield with some other woman. Julie points out that while Dev was over there having his one-sided holiday romance, she was here looking after his business and his children. Julie sobs that Dev abused the love she had for him and his children. Dev begs her to give him another chance so he can repay her but Julie says it can't be done. She heard him telling another woman that he loved her and there's no coming back from that.
