2013

Friday 1 February

We open with Kylie entering the Bistro and getting a fright as Lewis springs up from below the bar, having been gathering small dishes in which to put olives. He asks her if she has had any luck in finding Gail's bank details and informs him that she hasn't even looked. When she asks what would happen if she genuinely couldn't find them, Lewis replies that it would be a great pity-especially for her...

Sally is telling Sophie that she plans to do some baking and encourages her daughter and Kevin, who is passing, to come for dinner. Sophie informs them that she is going out with Jenna; news which meets a frosty reception. Sophie reminds Kevin that it was thanks to him that all the trouble kicked off and she won't be put off having a friendship with Jenna.

Roy hears a familiar voice as his cafe door swings open. Sylvia comes in carrying bags and tells him to hurry up and help her with her things. She hasn't been happy with Karl's service and tells Roy to give him a banana for a tip. Roy asks what she is doing here and she replies that she is currently making an obstruction, so he had better hurry up and help her with her cases.

Tracy arrives at the factory smartly dressed and makes a show of trying to locate a locker. Hayley asks her what she is doing and Tracy cuttingly replies to her that she won't have been told as it was an executive decision that she is now an employee at Underworld. The factory girls are confused; and they're not the only ones; Carla and Michelle are soon on the scene. Carla informs Tracy that there is no job to be had but Tracy assures them that Rob has given her a job. Michelle quips that Rob promises women a lot of things before Carla shows a disgruntled Tracy the door.

Kylie is looking troubled at The Bistro. David comes in and shows her a baby's t-shirt he has bought emblazoned with the words: 'I Love Daddy' Kylie feigns an interest but her mind is elsewhere. As Leanne comes over to have a look, Kylie goes up to Lewis and grudgingly tells her that she will do it. Lewis assures her she will have Gail's house to herself at lunch as he is taking Gail out. Kylie snarls that she hates Lewis for making her do this but he retorts that she had better not give herself further reason to hate him. He leaves her with the parting threat not to disappoint him.

Tyrone and Fiz are anxiously waiting at the contact centre to see Ruby. Tyrone is worried that things are taking so long but Fiz urges him to relax, saying that Ruby wants to see her dad relaxed.

Meanwhile, Kirsty is on the phone to the social worker, telling them that Ruby is running a temperature and is too ill to attend the visit. Of course, she is nothing of the sort and Kirsty lifts the perfectly healthy tot into her arms with a smile to herself.

Sylvia is enjoying a cup of tea when Hayley comes in and exclaims her surprise at her visitor. Sylvia tells her and Roy that Milton's sister is staying with him so she thought she'd give them some space. Before any further discussion can be had, Sylvia announces she is still on American time so heads for a nap.

Lewis has met up with Gail. He has told her that the ball is moving and she is excited and can't believe it's happening. She suggests that they don't tell her family but he smarmily tells her that it would be a little too selfish and he knows Gail is not like that. He will inform her when all the final details are in place and then they will announce their news.

Back at Gail's house, Kylie reluctantly gets to work rummaging through the cupboards and drawers...

Back at the Bistro, Kylie hands Lewis a handwritten piece of paper with Gail's details on it. He scoffs at Gail's password but all Kylie can think of is what this will do to Gail. She asks if Lewis does not love her to which he replies he has very strong feelings towards Gail; that is exactly why he is doing this. He gets on the phone to Gail and tells her their flight is on Sunday. He instructs her to gather the family for a meeting that night

Gail hangs up the phone. She is drinking with Sally in the Rovers. Sally notices her good mood and Gail can't resist telling Sally that she is moving to Italy with Lewis. Sally tells her it's a bad idea and isn't sure Gail should trust Lewis but Gail answers that she knows Lewis like nobody else does. Now where have we heard THAT before...?

Tyrone continues to be agitated. Eventually, a social worker comes out and informs him that Kirsty hasn't been able to bring Ruby in because she's unwell. Tyrone is incredulous and demands to know if they took her word for that. The social worker says that they will rearrange the visit for when Kirsty alerts them that Ruby is well enough. Tyrone is furious that Kirsty has all the control and tells Fiz that she can't keep getting away with this.

Lewis pops round to see an increasingly excited Gail. She tells him that she has arranged for the family to come round that evening and he is pleased. Gail asks if they are doing the right thing and he tells her that nothing easy was ever worth doing before kissing her. As she makes a cup of tea, Lewis sneaks a disc into the DVD case of Italian For Lovers, before heading off to the banks. As a last insult, he even takes £20 from Gail under the guise of buying flight socks.

Rob has returned to the factory to be greeted by Michelle and Carla's anger about Tracy. He tells them that they need an extra pair of hands but Michelle points out that these hands don't have to be Tracy's. Peter chips in that he thinks a day of work will do Tracy good. Carla relents and agrees to give Tracy an interview.

Sophie and Jenna are heading out for a meal. Jenna flinches as Sophie takes her hand but Sophie tells her to relax and not care what anyone else thinks. Jenna smiles and they walk away hand in hand watched reprovingly by a worried Kevin.

Audrey and David arrive at Gail's where Nick and Kylie are already present. Audrey wants to know what is going on but Gail says that they need to wait for Lewis. She then gets a text from Lewis saying that he has been held up and to start without him. After encouragement from an edgy Kylie, Gail announces that she and Lewis are moving to Italy. Audrey's face drops.

Hayley is telling Roy that she doesn't see why Sylvia would need to give Milton space, given the size of his home. At that point, a delivery man arrives with a massive suitcase for Sylvia. It has come overseas from Milton

Back at Gail's, a tearful Audrey is asking Gail how she can do this to her. Gail tries to assure Audrey that she didn't mean to hurt her. David and Kylie are shocked to learn that Gail has taken a loan of £40,000 against the house and that it will be going up for sale. At that point, Nick gets a text telling Gail to revise on her Italian and that the DVD is on the second shelf. David snatches up 'Italian for Lovers' and sees a disc insider with a post it note attached saying: 'Play Me' Gail tells David it might be private but he puts it into the player. Gail sits down, looking worried. Lewis comes onto the screen. He is in Nick's bar, making himself a cocktail. He says that the cocktail is similar to revenge, it needs served very cold. He smiles wickedly to the camera and says that he has been a very naughty boy...

The Platts and Audrey are sitting glued to the telly, open mouthed, listening to Lewis. He is finally spilling all, letting everyone know about his dastardly scheme to get his own back on Gail and make a bit of money for himself at the same time.

Gail sits there crumpled as he tells her he never loved her, that there was no job and no house is Tuscany, and no money left in her bank account, because by the time she hears what he has to say, he will have cleaned it all out.

He then speaks to Audrey, saying she had done something he thought no woman ever could. She had truly made him happy, and had succeeded in making him a changed man for a little while. He apologises for hurting her, but tells her this has to be their last goodbye, and blows her a kiss. Audrey watches him with a smile on her lips and tears in her eyes.

Kylie is next on his list, and she cringes in case he decides not to keep his end of the bargain. However, he tells her he likes her very much, and she deserves better than that weasel of a husband. David's face at this is a picture! He also tells Nick that he too deserves happiness one day, and hopes they both find it.

He then raises his glass to Gail and offers a toast of 'What goes around, comes around'. Draining his glass, he waves 'Ciao' and leaves them all sitting there totally stunned.

Roy and Hayley are discussing the trunk in the cafe. Roy is telling Hayley that he remembers it from his childhood, that he had hidden in it during his birthday party. "Oh you were playing Hide & Seek?" says Hayley. "No," says Roy. "I was just hiding in it waiting for it to be over, I never wanted a party in the first place". Sylvia interrupts just then saying she was about to send the police out looking for him, then happened to lift the lid on the trunk and found him playing with his little Dinkies (toy cars), or rather arranging them in straight lines, she corrects herself.

Lifting the lid now, both they and Sylvia are surprised to see just about all her things inside. Roy points out that Sylvia had told him she wasn't staying long. She replies that Milton must have gotten hold of the wrong end of the stick, something she insists he is prone to do. Hayley tells her he seemed sharp enough to her, but she insists she just hadn't seen him in his less lucid moments.

She tells them she will phone Milton and make arrangements for it to be sent back to America, but asks that she be allowed to do so in private.

Gail is also trying to use the phone. She is trying to contact Lewis, but is getting nothing but voicemail. Audrey snaps that she surely didn't expect him to be waiting at the other end for a pleasant chat did she? She goes on to say that she is sure he is now well and truly airborne to somewhere. A sobbing Gail replies that she is sure if only she could speak to him - but is interrupted by Audrey, who has no sympathy for her whatsoever. She points out that he never cared for her in the slightest, and has been planning this revenge for months. Nick tells his Gran to go easy on her, but Audrey is not in any mood to do that, and David has no sympathy for her either, considering how she was prepared to dump them all and take off to Tuscany without a moment's thought for them. Nick, trying to be the voice of reason, points out that the man is a serial con-man, and now they have to decide what to do next.

Julie and Kirsty, who is pushing Ruby come out of the Chippy. Tyrone runs over to them furious that she had said Ruby was too ill to see him, yet not too ill to be taken out to the Chippy. Kirsty tells him he should be glad Ruby is feeling better. Ty shouts that she wasn't ill in the first place. Kirsty replies that she doesn't have to justify herself to him.

Tyrone asks if he can hold her, but is refused by Kirsty who gets upset. This springs Julie to her defense of course, and she shouts at him to get away from her. Fiz, and Kevin who has come along at that point, pull Tyrone away from his daughter, saving him from breaching his bail conditions, but he is distraught, calling out Ruby's name.

Over in No. 8, Gail is still sobbing, pleading with her mam to try to understand that she had thought this was her last chance at happiness, and grabbed it. Audrey is looking at her stony faced. She is also getting no sympathy from David. He is pointing out that she had been quite prepared to sell their home from under them, just so she could go and eat spaghetti with that toffee nosed ponce. (His words, not mine!) Gail shouts back that he is 22 years old, she had thought he could be trusted to look after himself. Audrey steps in there and remarks that she (Gail) is almost 55, yet certainly can't be.

As Gail starts to cry again, Nick puts his hand on her shoulder and hands her the number of the bank, telling her to check on the situation there. Audrey can't see the point of that, as she knows the money will be long gone. Nick tells Gail it is worth a try, because Lewis will have needed her bank details and password to get access, and asks if she ever gave it to him. Gail assures him she didn't, saying she isn't that stupid. (Oh no? I wouldn't mind betting that if Lewis had asked her for them, he wouldn't have had to use Kylie!) Speaking of Kylie, she is standing through this conversation nervously biting her lip.

We are now over in the Bistro, eavesdropping on a conversation between Sophie and Jenna. They are talking about the gap between them in age, Sophie is telling her it doesn't matter to her one iota. Jenna replies that although it doesn't bother her, it's other people who seem to have an opinion about it. Sophie points out that she is 18, and her parents have no say in who she sees. "Some of us have no choice" groans Jenna, who spots Lloyd and Mandy coming through the door. They are seated at the next table to them, much to the dismay of the younger couple.

Tracy is being interviewed for a factory job in The Rovers by Rob and Carla. She is telling them that her experience as a florist will stand her in very good stead as she is familiar with paper work and ordering, plus she is excellent at tying ribbons. Carla asks her what else she has done, and Tracy has a think, and comes up with motherhood, the most important job a woman can do. Carla, who wouldn't know about that, asks if she has done anything else. Tracy admits there is a bit of a gap in her work history, and doesn't have to elaborate, as Carla points out she is fully aware she was a guest of Her Majesty for a few years. Tracy begs her to give her a chance, as she is a quick learner, and is very eager to please. As she says the latter, she runs the toe of her stiletto clad foot gently up Rob's leg.

He gets the point (point, geddit? ha ha!), and turns to Carla saying in his opinion she has a lot to offer. (Oh I bet she does!). Carla is easily persuaded too, and agrees to give her a trial, starting Monday. Tracy is thrilled, and assures them they won't be disappointed. (Well, one of them won't anyway, until he gets to wear his first statue headgear in the style of Charlie Stubbs).

As Tracy leaves, and Rob goes to buy more drinks at the bar, Michelle comes over, disgusted that Carla caved in and hired Tracy. However, Carla has a plan, she knows why Rob wants her there, and tells Michelle it will work to their advantage, as he will be too busy with her to bother getting under their feet in the office.

Roy and Hayley are also in the Rovers, speculating on what exactly has been going on in America. They are agreed that there is nothing wrong with Milton's faculties, but are curious as to whether things are as they should be between him and Sylvia.

Speaking of Sylvia, she is currently speaking to Milton, and is questioning why he forwarded all her things to her, saying she has every intention of returning. The upshot of the conversation is that he no longer wants her there, even though she tells him that she now has 'it' right out of her system, and has it completely under control - whatever that is. However, it is clear that Milton does not want to see her again, and hangs up on her.

Someone else is also on the phone. Gail is pleading with the bank, asking if they can put a trace on where her money was transferred to. Apparently it was all, including the £40,000 loan, transferred into five different accounts, and her account is now dry. She is told there is nothing they can do, because a password was used, and it was through her negligence that she allowed him to have it.

Nick is urging Gail to contact the police, although Audrey can't see the point, as she knows he will be out of the country by now. Just then there is a knock at the door with a package for Audrey. Surprised, she opens it to find a wad of money. The note inside reads '£9,000 payment in full, love Lewis'

After the break, we are back in No. 8 and Nick is counting the money, and I am amused to see cases of olives on the shelves in the background. It's all there, £9,000, along with the £1,000 he had already repaid to Audrey, he was now out of her debt from the amount she paid on his behalf to the woman he had ripped off. Gail is still feeling sorry for herself, saying he had broken her heart and ground it into the floor with his built-up shoes. Nick is shocked, "He wore built up shoes?" he asks. "Yes", they all reply in unison. Gail remarks to Audrey that it was typical of him, never quite what he seemed. Audrey doesn't reply, but has a little smile playing around her lips.

Gail sighs, gathering up the money, and tells them at least she hasn't quite lost everything. However, Audrey has other ideas about that. She takes the money away from her, saying the envelope was addressed to her, that it was repayment of money she had paid out, and it belonged to her. Gail protests that it was paid with her money, but Audrey is adamant, the money belongs to her, end of! Gail protests that she can't seriously be intending to keep it. Audrey snaps back that she has no idea what she intends to do right now, but she does know she doesn't intend to foot the bill for her stupidity, or for breaking her heart. With that, she tucks the money firmly inside her handbag.

Gail begs her mother to reconsider. Pointing out she can't do that to her, she is her daughter. Audrey bites back that maybe she should have thought of that before she started sleeping with her ex. Gail then admits they hadn't slept together, which quite shocks David, and he quite indelicately points out that it cost her 40 grand and she didn't even get to sample the goods! That fact still cuts no ice with Audrey however, who bids her goodnight and leaves.

Tyrone is still angry with Kevin for stopping him from picking up his baby. Kevin points out that if he hadn't, Kirsty would have called the police, and he would be back inside for breach of probation. Fiz agrees with Kevin, but Ty bleats that all he wanted to do was hold her for a minute. Kevin points out that a minute could have cost him a lifetime of regret, because he could have ended up inside, and Kirsty might take off with Ruby, and he would never see her again. Ty however is not calmer, and feels he is no better off the way it is now.

The police are in No. 8, have watched the video and are taking it for evidence. They admit it is going to be pretty difficult to catch him, as he has a few hours head start, plus he has experience in getting away with this sort of thing, and had it all very well planned in advance. Nick and Kylie go back to work, and the latter pleads with David to give Gail a break, as she feels she has suffered enough.

Tracy and Rob are all over each other in the Rovers, much to the disgust of Michelle and Eva who are watching from the bar. Tracy notices them looking and makes a sarcastic remark. Eva points out that Rob has form in giving people jobs in order to get them into bed. (And she would certainly know about that). "Ooh, sounds like a perk to me", says Tracy.

Sylvia comes in and joins Roy and Hayley in the booth. Roy inquires as to whether she has sorted things out with Milton. She replies that she has been very busy getting all traces of Milton and Americana tat bagged up ready for the charity shop, as she and Milton have gone their separate ways. Hayley is shocked, and asks what happened, as they had seemed so well suited. Sylvia concedes that he was a lovely man, but his country was not. "One can only be wished 'a nice day' so many times, choose from so many sandwich fillings and television channels, and endure so much ear splitting enthusiasm of anything and everything regardless of merit." As the pair are sitting in stunned silence, she decides to get up and get her own drink.

As soon as her back is turned, Hayley turns to Roy and tells him she doesn't buy all that for a second, that she had been having the time of her life out there, and knows there is more to all this than meets the eye. Roy replies that perhaps there is, but feels they would be wise to let well alone.

Lloyd is trying to break the ice between the two tables, and asks Jenna if she comes here often. She replies that the only other time she had been there was with him, and reminds him that he had told her that day that it wasn't his type of place. He makes the excuse that Mandy had been cooking all day, and wanted to give her a break. He then asks if they are out on their first date, but Sophie assures him they are just friends. "Glad to hear it!" says Mandy, which riles Jenna, who says "No, actually it is a date, alright?". Mandy tells her that as she is asking, it is definitely not alright.

Lloyd looks stricken, and suggests they cool it. Jenna is angry though, and tells her mother she thought she had said she was OK with her sexuality. Mandy tells her she is OK with that, it's just her girlfriend she has a problem with, as it was down to her that she lost her career. Jenna snaps back that owning up to her sexuality was far more important to her than her job, and she and Sophie are together now, and she had better start getting used to it. To reinforce this, she grabs Sophie's hand and holds it up for Mandy to see.

Behind the bar, Nick and Kylie are talking about the Lewis debacle. Kylie admits that she had known it was coming, and confesses that she gave Lewis the bank information, and how she had been blackmailed into it. She points out that if she hadn't done it, the two of them would have been the stars on that DVD.

Back at home, David is being a little nicer to Gail, giving her a glass of wine to settle her nerves. He tells her it could be worse. "How?", says Gail. She points out that she had her future all mapped out, and that was all destroyed by Lewis, he also destroyed her relationship between herself and her mam, made her a laughing stock among her friends, humiliated her, lost her job, she's broke, and stands to lose her house. "Yeah, well, when you put it like that." agrees David.

Audrey arrives home to find a huge bunch of flowers laying on her doorstep. She reads the note which says "You were always the one, all my love, all my life, Lewis". She stands there smiling with tears running freely down her face, hugging her flowers.

Monday 4 February

Written by Julie Jones Directed by Tony Prescott

Gail is in the dumps, the doldrums and very, very down. Head in hands, she thinks her life is over. She's been humiliated. She'll be the object of gossip the rest of her born days and nothing anyone can say will cheer her up.

It's chaos in the salon flat, with way too many people underfoot. Craig is looking for his rat and I'm surprised Ozzy the dog hasn't found it and had it for his breakfast.

Sally has come to see Kirsty and has a coo at the baby. Kirsty tells her she's got to sign some forms at the police station. Sally says she's booked the day off and will mind Ruby.

Maria is up on a chair while the search for Darryl continues. Ozzy growls and whips something around in his mouth and we all think it's the rat, but it's just a small soft teddy. Really. Why isn't the dog gone mental if there's a rat loose in the flat? Kirk has found Darryl who has made a little nest in Maria's best bra. Maria is highly offended.

Tyrone is trying to talk to Social Services. Fiz pops in to see him before work. IT's apparent that the news isn't good and he's not been able to re-arrange another meeting to see the baby. He's worried that Kirsty will continue to stop him seeing Ruby. Fiz suggests a visit to the solicitor.

Kylie tries to get Nick to go see Gail but Nick is on Audrey's side. He makes a snidey remark about her feeling guilty. She admits it and says they're in it together so he should do his bit and help with his mother.

Sylvia comes downstairs and Roy has assumed she is there to work. She is not and declines to say where she's going. Fiz is busy doing a deep cleaning job and Roy insists he needs the help so Sylvia sighs and turns round to get a pinnie on, complaints to the forefront.

Beth is complaining about Maria being stroppy. They chat about rats and other pets until Tracy walks in, dressed to the nines, even with her hair up. Michelle calls her on being late. Ah. It seems that Tracy thought her job was in the office and is dismayed to say the least when she discovers she has to work in packing. With Kirk. Michelle is merry at her discomfort and even Hayley hides a smile behind her clipboard. Kirk cheerfully comes to collect her. Rob just looks elsewhere while Michelle giggles.

Eileen is getting her hair done. Gail comes in and David shores up for a battle. Audrey wants nothing to do with her. Gail is trying to explain, to apologize but Audrey isn't having it. Eileen takes it all in. Gail has to leave without getting anywhere. Eileen commiserates and comes out on Audrey's side.

At the solicitor's, Tyrone complains about Kirsty and is scolded for talking to Kirsty without permission. He's bouncing off the walls with frustration. The solicitor reminds him that he's under investigation and could still be charged. Tyrone insists he's innocent and can't go to prison because then he can't be a dad to Ruby. She suggests he pleads guilty and would probably get a suspended sentence. That has the effect you would expect. No Way!

In the cafe, Julie buys a cuppa for Eileen. Sylvia insists on leaving and Roy is on his own. Sally arrives and joins Eileen, Julie, Izzy, Beth and Sean just as Eileen is spreading Gail gossip, including the 40 grand swindle. Sally only defends Gail as falling for the wrong bloke. She tells them she's looking after Ruby just as Tyrone arrives to hear. The rest of the workers leave and Tyrone asks if he can sit with Sally for a bit.

Nick has come to see his mother. She's in tears. Nobody loves her. He points out her family does, even Audrey. She has so many regrets, falling for all of Lewis' lies. Nick declares Lewis is a world class cheat and she needs to forget it and plan what comes next. He advises her to ring the bank manager, they may be able to do something to help.

Tyrone tells Sally about the aborted visit. She admits he's a brilliant dad. He wants her to let him see Ruby while she's babysitting but she really doesn't think that's a good idea. He tries to impress on her that he would never hurt anyone. Sally explains that she thinks his tragic past has affected him and he must tell the truth and really should get help. He realizes she believes what everyone else believes. Sally leaves him there, devastated.

In the salon, David gives his Gran a peck on the cheek. Audrey is at loose ends. David suggests she go speak to Gail but she doesn't want to. Marcus drops in. He's off to Frescos for something for their tea. They both have a moan about the flatmates, their appetites and their penchant for being messy. Maria is at the end of her rope. They have to move out.

Kirsty drops Ruby off at Sally's. She tells Kirsty she saw Tyrone early but promises she won't let Tyrone see Ruby. Sally feels bad for how things turned out. Kirsty implores Sally not to fall for Tyrone's emotional pleading. Kirsty tells Sally that she won't let her guard down because she landed in hospital last time and she's only worried for Ruby (sound familiar?) Sally promises faithfully that she won't let Kirsty down.

Gail arrives at the Bistro with Nick. She's seen the bank manager who has been distinctly unhelpful. Nick offers her her job back. She reckons she needs to up David and Kylie's rent and won't let them move out. Eileen and Paul arrive. Eileen takes great pleasure in rubbing Gail's nose in it. Paul drags her away but the damage is done.

The workers tease Tracy who's not happy about her new job. Hayley and Julie both reckon it's good honest work and putting something good back into the world. Julie even says "If someone gets pleasure out of my knickers, I'm happy" (!) Kirk challenges Tracy to a test to make sure she's up to speed. She starts to kick off until Rob calls her over. He implies it might be too much for her so of course she tells him she's better than the lot of them and they won't do her in. Kirk demonstrates proper lifting. Oh joy.

David gives Max his dinner. Gail tells David they're all going to have to make economies. She lets him know their rent is going to have to be increased. He isn't happy with the 100 a month increase so they'll just move out sooner. (He's going to have to pay a lot more per month!) Gail cries that she'll lose the house altogether if they move out. David snaps that it's not his problem. She will have to sort her own mess.

Fiz arrives at Tina's. Tyrone is in a state. He's angry and frustrated. Sally has known him for 15 years and thinks he's guilty. How is he going to convince a jury? Nobody can say anything that will calm him down. Tyrone admits he is going to plead guilty.

Tvor

Written by Susan Oudot and directed by Tony Prescott

Fiz and Tina are desperately trying to talk some sense into Ty. He's convinced that the only way he's going to avoid losing Ruby altogether is by pleading guilty but Tina says if he does that she'll lose her anyway because Ruby will grow up believing her father's a wife beater. Fiz is sure that everyone will learn the truth eventually, even though she's not sure how. Ty says he's going out. He promises he won't go to the police but says he wants to clear his head and he wants to go on his own.

Round at Platt-MacIntyre Towers, David and Gail are having a row when Kylie comes home. David tells Kylie his mum wants to put the rent up. Gail doesn't help her cause when she implies that Kylie will find a way to get the extra money because, as Kylie puts it, Gail thinks she's a rip-off merchant. At that Kylie announces she and David are moving out and they're going down the pub. Max is upstairs asleep and when Gail asks if that means she's expected to babysit, Kylie tells her it's the least she can do in the circumstances.

Tracy's in the Rovers, celebrating the fact that she managed to complete a whole day of work in the packing department at the factory. Not exactly a high-powered role but, as she tells Rob, she hopes it will show him what she's capable of. He tells her he has no doubt what she's capable of as he raises his glass and gives her a knowing wink. Steve, Michelle and Carla walk in so Tracy suggests they should join them although she adds that Steve may be a bit bored as they're talking shop.

Rita and Audrey arrive in the Rovers. While Stella gets them their drinks, Audrey tells Rita how chuffed she was to receive a beautiful bouquet of flowers from Lewis. Rita says she hopes Audrey smashed it to smithereens and she confirms that she did ... in the end. Kylie and David join in the conversation and tell Audrey and Rita how Gail has decided to put their rent up because she can't afford the loan repayments. When they tell Audrey that they're planning to move out she points out that Gail definitely won't be able to make the payments then and she'll have to sell the house. Kylie says it's tough and David adds that his mother's given them no choice.

Meanwhile, Ty is on a mission. We see him thumping on Kirsty's back door. She says she's going to call the police but Ty says they both know she's not the one in danger. She tells him Ruby's not there but Ty says she's the one he's come to see. Once they're inside Ty tenderly picks up one of Ruby's toys and asks how she is. Kirsty says she's fine then swiftly moves on to tell him how kind and supportive everyone's being to her in view of how she's been suffering. After a few more catty comments from Kirsty, Ty tells her she's won. He says he'll go to the police and tell them that everything Kirsty has said about him is true. Kirsty can't believe what she's hearing and asks why. Ty tells her that Ruby is more important to him than what people think. Kirsty asks if it's some kind of trick. Ty says it isn't, he'll do anything rather than lose Ruby. Kirsty tells him there is another way: she tells him he can come home and then he can see Ruby whenever he likes. Ty doesn't reply but just shakes his head.

In Roy's Rolls, Sylvia is acting rather strangely. She claims that she was in another cafe somewhere across town when she discovered she'd lost her purse. After some nudging from Hayley, Roy offers to lend her £20 but Sylvia says that isn't enough and asks for an advance on her wages and says £100 should do it. Roy reluctantly raids the till, whereupon Sylvia orders a frothy coffee and a sticky bun "for the shock". We can see her relieved expression as she goes to sit down. Hayley remarks to Roy that Sylvia seems a bit vague and wonders if she's alright.

We return to Ty and Kirsty. He can't believe what she's just suggested but Kirsty says that they've both done things they've regretted and said things they didn't mean. She seems to think they can go back to how they were but Ty says that's just it, he can't go back to how things were, always being scared of what might happen next. Ty swallows hard and then tells Kirsty he can't get back with her because he doesn't love her any more. Kirsty starts to get angry. She threatens him with stopping his visits to Ruby. After all she says, you know what kids are like, always picking up some bug or other. Ty says she can't stop him seeing Ruby but Kirsty says they both know she can. She makes out that she's about to call the domestic violence investigator. Ty stops her and tells her not to do that, she knows he loves Ruby. "But you don't love me" says Kirsty. "That's just the price you pay. Now get out."

Back in the Rovers, Audrey and Rita are still discussing Lewis. Audrey says that before she met Lewis if someone had told her that she'd fall in love again and feel the way she'd felt 50 years previously she would never have believed them. She says she doesn't know whether to feel relief that part of her life is still there or regret at all the pain that comes with it. Rita suggests that maybe the same goes for Gail. She points out that she's had her heart broken as well and now it looks like she might lose her house too. Audrey says she deserves it for betraying her. Rita doesn't think Audrey means it and asks if she honestly wants to see Gail homeless.

On the other side of the pub Michelle is fuming about the fact that she now has to put up with Tracy at work all day, on top of everything else. Tracy is far too busy laughing and flirting with Rob to notice.

Maria and Marcus are just settling down for a romantic evening with a DVD but Beth, Kirk and Craig arrive home and join them on the sofa. They'd been out for a pizza but Kirk's ability to down a 10 inch Sloppy Giuseppe in under 4 minutes meant that Marcus and Maria hadn't even got as far as the opening credits. Maria has reached the end of her tether and tells the three of them they're going to have to move out, taking Daryl with them. As Marcus puts it, it was the rat that broke the camel's back.

Outside we see Ty watching from across the street as Kevin arrives at Sally's house with baby Jack. Sally comes out to let him in and she's holding Ruby in her arms.

Kevin is holding baby Ruby and Sally asks if he can look after her for a few minutes while she goes upstairs for a bath. He wanders over to the conservatory and sees Ty through the window. Kevin opens the back door and Ty begs to be allowed to hold his baby. Kevin is worried he'll be seen a reminds Ty he's on bail but Ty begs him and Kevin relents. As he holds Ruby in his arms Ty tells Kevin that he's lost everyone he's ever loved and he can't lose her too. Hearing Sally's voice in the background Kevin quickly takes Ruby back and Ty disappears just in time.

Back at Maria's, she and Marcus have given up and gone to bed leaving Craig, Beth and Kirk to discuss what they'll do. Craig doesn't want to leave and says it's the best place he's ever lived, like being in a proper family. Beth reckons Maria's just in a bad mood and puts it down to being 'that time of the month' but Kirk says she can be really stubborn when she wants to. Beth promises Craig that with her ability to charm the birds from the trees by the time she's finished with Maria she'll be begging them to stay. Kirk doesn't say anything but even he must have enough brain cells to work out that Beth is completely deluded.

Round at Platt-MacIntyre Towers Gail looks pleased for a change when Audrey arrives for a visit. But her pleasure's short-lived when she hears her mother's proposition to solve the problem with the loan. She suggests to David and Kylie that she can give them the money for a deposit so that they can take out a mortgage and buy the house. David and Kylie are delighted but Gail looks shocked. "Buy my house? With my money?" asks Gail. She asks where she's supposed to live. Audrey tells her she can stay as their lodger but that's a step too far for Gail who announces that it will happen over her dead body. Which, given her past history with David, probably isn't the wisest statement to make.

At Sally's, she and Kevin are discussing Kirsty and Tyrone. He suggests that Ty might not be the guilty party but whilst Sally agrees that Kirsty might not be the easiest person to live with and she feels sorry for Ty she obviously still on Kirsty's side. She reminds Kevin what Ty has had to go through thanks to him: the affair with Molly, losing Jack and discovering that he wasn't the father. Kevin says he can't take responsibility for everything that's happened to Ty and Sally says, contrary to what he might think, she doesn't blame him for everything but adds that we all have to take responsibility for our mistakes and pay for them.

In the cafe, Roy is closing up for the night. As he sweeps the floor his mother sits reading a magazine and demanding another cup of tea. He's clearly fed up to the back teeth with her. He asks if she's reported her lost purse to the bank but Sylvia says she'll do it in the morning. Roy points out it's a 24 hour service and offers to get the number. Irritated, Sylvia gets up and tells Roy that she may have lost her purse but she hasn't lost her marbles. She picks up the phone as if to make the call but, the moment Roy leaves the room, she hangs up again without even dialing.

At Gail's Audrey is trying to talk some sense into her. Gail is adamant that she's not going to sell to David and Kylie and become a lodger in her own house but Audrey points out she doesn't have much choice: either she sells it to them or she sells it to someone else and, if she doesn't that, then where will she live? As Gail allows this logic to sink in Audrey bids them goodbye.

Ty arrives at Fiz's. She horrified when Ty tells her he's been to see Kirsty but he says he wanted to try and make her see reason. He tells Fiz that she made it clear that, even if he admitted to everything in court, she'd still stop him seeing Ruby. He goes on to tell Fiz how he snuck round to Sally's and got to hold Ruby. He starts to well up at the memory and then gets himself into a state. Fiz tries to calm him down and says she knows he's upset but they will expose Kirsty for the lying, scheming bully she is. "How?" asks Ty. He says he'll do whatever it takes but nobody is listening to him. He says he feels like he's in a hall, screaming but nothing is coming out. Ty says that people keep reassuring him that everything will be fine but what if it's not? He tells Fiz that he's made a decision: he's going to go abroad and take Ruby with him. As Fiz looks at Ty in horror he tells her that it's the only way.

Wednesday 6 February

Kirsty is in the cafe, regaling Julie and Sally with a tall tale of how terrified she was when Tyrone knocked on her door. The gullible pair swallow it hook, line and sinker and make sympathetic noises, say they must have a night out and Sally offers Sophie's babysitting services. Meanwhile, Fiz stands and seethes behind the counter and asks Roy how they can believe her when they've known Tyrone for so long.

Marcus and Maria get up and find Beth and Kirk cooking them a full English breakfast. Marcus says he can't face a fry up and Maria agrees and says she just wants toast. Marcus tells them that this won't change their minds, and Beth protests that they're not cooking breakfast for that reason. She says they've had a talk and realised they've not been pulling their weight, so from now on this is what it's going to be like. Maria points out that they agreed Kirk and Beth would find somewhere else to live, but Beth ignores her and Kirk puts plates of bacon and eggs in front of them.

Gail comes downstairs with a face like a slapped backside. David and Kylie tell her that if she'll sell the house to them, they can all carry on as they are, if she sells to someone else they'll all be out, and she should think of Max, this is his home. Gail asks if they're expecting to buy at a knockdown price, but they assure her they're not. She asks how they can afford it. David says they think they can, and Kylie starts to say that they'll have Gail's rent as well.....and then stops short when Gail glares at her. David hurriedly says that they should get a valuation, so they all know what they're talking about. Gail concedes that it wouldn't do any harm.

Anna arrives for work in the cafe, so Fiz goes off on a break. Sylvia comes down then, and Roy asks if the bank has been in touch and told her whether anyone else has used her cards. She says they have, but won't tell him anything more. Roy then notices she's wearing an old watch, and not the new one that Milton gave her. She bristles, but tells him she left her new one in the salon. Roy asks why she needed to take her watch off, but Sylvia is very much on the defensive and refuses to answer any more questions.

Fiz has arrived at Tina's flat to see Tyrone. She hopes he isn't still thinking of grabbing Ruby and running off. "Have you got any better ideas?" he asks, adding that he has no choice. Fiz says he'll just get into more trouble. "And what if Kirsty decides to run off with Ruby?" he asks, "what if one day No. 9 is empty?" Fiz is pretty sure Kirsty wouldn't do that, especially after what she's seen in the cafe, with Sally and Julie believing every word and arranging a night out.

Sally is in the shop, telling Sophie how she said she would babysit Ruby. Sophie tells her she's already arranged to see Jenna. Sally turns on the emotional blackmail, saying how Kirsty is a woman on her own, she's had a terrible time, and this should be Sophie's Christian duty. It works, and in the end Sophie asks how long she'll be needed for. "Because I'm not staying in all night!"

Tyrone goes over to the garage and thanks Kevin for letting him see Ruby yesterday, and tells him that Sophie is going to babysit Ruby later. He asks if Kevin will help him to see Ruby again. "What, just for a few minutes?" asks Kevin. "For good," says Tyrone. Kevin can't believe his ears, and points out he can't kidnap a baby, and besides, he's on bail. Kevin won't help, because, he says, he would just be helping Tyrone get himself locked up. Tyrone says he really thought Kevin would help, after all, he's already taken one baby off him, and he really thought Kevin would help him get his baby to safety. "You think I should leave her with Kirsty? She battered me, what's she going to do to a baby?" he says. " Cheers mate, I should have known better than to ask!" he storms off leaving Kevin looking thoughtful.

Gail goes into the pub and meets Audrey. She wants to know why Audrey offered to give David and Kylie the deposit money so they could buy the house. She points out that it was actually her money, so Audrey should have given it to her. "Let's not argue," says Audrey, but Gail is furious. "You make me a lodger in my own house and tell me not to argue!" she snaps, and says she'll never forgive her.

Sally knocks on Kirsty's door and tells her that Sophie has agreed to babysit. As she walks away Kevin sees her and comes running over. He asks if Kirsty has said why she won't let Tyrone see his own daughter. "Can you blame her? After what he's done?" says Sally, adding that he'd better get used to it because it's not going to change.

David and Kylie are showing a mortgage advisor round the house, and he gives them forms to fill in. Just then Gail walks in through the front door. They tells her that he's valued the house at £90k. Gail of course, has just had a few drinks in the pub and is slightly the worse for wear. She puts her head in her hands and asks the man if he's got children, and then tells him that one day they'll turn on him, they'll treat him like a useless bit of rubbish they can't wait to get rid of. David and Kylie squirm with embarrassment.

In the cafe, Roy is going off to his railway enthusiasts meeting. Anna comes in with Faye, and sits her at a table. Faye is annoyed because she can't speak to her own dad, saying that she thought Anna had him checked out and he's ok. Anna reminds her that she ran off and they didn't know where she was. "Get your homework done," she says.

Gail has crashed out on the sofa, snoring, as David and Kylie show the mortgage man out. He's sure they'll get the mortgage with the deposit that they're putting down.

Anna asks Sylvia if she'll keep an eye on Faye while she goes to the bank. Faye isn't too happy about that.

Kirsty has brought Ruby round to Sally's house, where Sophie is going to babysit. The two women go off for their night out.

David and Kylie tell Gail that when the house is theirs they're going to make changes. One of which is that they're going to have the largest bedroom - Gail's! They tell her she can have the little bedroom. Gail is aghast, and tells them that there is barely room for a single bed in there. "Well, you won't be needing a double, will you?" says Kylie.

Kevin goes round to Sally's house with Jack, and tells Sophie that he'll take over babysitting. He then makes a phone call to Tyrone and tells him that he's changed his mind. Tyrone says he'll sort some things out and be round. "Come round the back," says Kevin.

Fiz arrives at Tyrone's just as he's going out the door. He says there's something he has to do, but can't tell her what. She shuts the door and says she's staying till he tells her. Eventually he explains that Kevin has her and has said he can take her. Fiz is astounded and wants to know where he's taking her. He thinks probably Ireland. Fiz tells him he's mad, they'll come after him and catch him and he'll be in loads of trouble. He tells her he doesn't care, he just has to do this. "And what about us?" asks Fiz and then says she will go with him. She loves him and begs him to let her come with him.

Kirsty is in the pub with Beth, Julie, Sally and Kirk. She tells them she's planning to stay in No. 9 for the time being. "Well you've got his kid so you're entitled to his house," says Beth. Julie keeps trying to change the subject, but the others won't let it drop.

Marcus and Maria come in, and Beth goes over to them and tells them she and Kirk want to take them to a bar that they really like.

Tyrone has gone into No. 9 and has found Ruby's passport.

Fiz has told Chesney and Katy that she's moving in with Tyrone - now! Chesney protests and can't understand the timing.

Tyrone goes round to the back of Sally's house where Kevin hands over Ruby in the car seat. He tells Tyrone that he'll say he just fell asleep and Tyrone must have sneaked in. Tyrone thanks him and says he'll never forget this.

Fiz is standing on the pavement with Hope, and tells Chesney to get back inside. Then Tyrone comes zooming round the corner in a car and stops beside her. She straps Hope into the back and off they go!

Anne Logan.

Friday 8 February

We start in the pub, where Julie and Eileen and Kirsty are having a night out. Except that Tina refuses to serve Kirsty. She's sent home to cool off because Stella won't have her being rude to the customers.

Tyrone and Fiz put the last few things in the car. Fiz is worried that Tyrone will have been caught on CCTV in a shop. She warns him that once they're reported missing with Ruby they'll be watched by camera on the roads and everywhere. Tyrone says they'll just have to hope they're on the ferry before anyone realises they've gone.

Kevin's got the telly on and he's looking at the paper when he hears the door open. Kirsty's been so upset by Tina that she and Sally have come back early. It's just a minute before Sally goes up to fetch Ruby and discovers she's gone.

Anna's cleaning up while Sylvia waxes lyrical about the labour-saving devices they have in America. Self-cleaning ovens. Self-defrosting fridge-freezers. And no, Sylvia can't help Anna put the chairs up because her lower back is giving her twinges. Fay reckons it'll be the lack of exercise, what with all the devices Sylvia had to do the work there. Sylvia tries to get Fay back to doing her English homework. What's the next question? "Explain the meaning of the word 'slacker' and say whether you think it relates to anyone in the book."

Back at Sally's they've been searching the house. Then Sally finds the conservatory door is unlocked. Kirsty's screaming that it'll be all Tyrone's doing. As Sally phones the police, Kirsty leaves the house to go and look for Ruby.

Kirsty's screaming and banging on Tina's door - loud enough to have Anna, Sylvia and Fay rush out from the cafe and Owen comes from his yard. When Tina opens the door, Kirsty shoves her way past. Sally, Owen and Anna go after her, with Anna asking Sylvia to take Fay home and look after her.

In the flat, Tina is adamant that Tyrone isn't there. Kirsty's screaming and threatening her and Owen tries to calm her down. He's angry that she's attacking Tina while she's pregnant. As they manage to pull Kirsty back out of the flat, Tina asks whether Kirsty's saying that Tyrone snatched Ruby. "Good for him," she says.

Beth's taken Kirk, Marcus and Maria to a gay bar in town. The barman recognizes Marcus. Beth talks about the advantages of being friends with gay men and wants confirmation from Maria, who just says: "Why are you asking me?" Beth says the bar has a tranny night, though Marcus says they don't do that any more. Kirk can understand that. "Nobody's bothered about trannies since digital radio came in."

Chesney and Katy have just got Joseph to sleep when Kirsty does her screaming and banging thing on their front door. As she bursts into the house, with Owen, Anna and Sally trying to hold her back, she demands to search the house. She demands to know where Fiz is, then realises Fiz and Tyrone have run off together, taking the babies with them.

The police have arrived in the street, lights flashing and with a detective sergeant with them. No, I have no idea why they haven't just sent a couple of uniformed constables as usual. Kirsty weeps as she tells them what's happened.

Kirsty's back at Sally's, being questioned by DS Klein. The only friend of Tyrone's she can think of is Connie. She's got the address and photos of Ruby back at her house. No, I have no idea why she hasn't gone there to be questioned. She does know the car registration number because it's her car they've taken. The police are going to search Fiz's house and Tina's. No, I have no idea how come they've already got a search warrant. DC Klein issues a warning to Kevin about not going anywhere because they'll need his statement. Then they go off to fetch the photos. Sally looks at Kevin when they've gone. "I just hope this has got nothing to do with you." "No, it hasn't," he says.

Fay sneaks down the stairs past a napping (but noisily mumbling) Sylvia.

At the bistro, Gail comes in and asks Nick if he'll be able to increase her hourly rate when she re-starts her job. He agrees, though Leanne, standing not far away, looks aghast. Then Gail asks the killer question. Can she come and live with Nick? She can't sleep in the boxroom after 21 years living in that house. And with David and Kylie not speaking to her except to order her about. Nick asks how long she plans to stay. Just until she saves a deposit for a place of her own. She weeps as she says she took in Kylie out of the goodness of her heart and this is how they repay her . . . Nick can't stand the tears and says she can move in. Leanne goes through the swing door to the kitchen and there's an enormous crashing sound in there.

Back at the bar, Marcus tells Maria that Beth and Kirk have only brought them out so they can persuade Marcus and Maria to let them stay. When Beth and Kirk come back from the bar with banana vodkas all round, Beth again turns the conversation to gay men and asks Marcus what his type is. Maria snaps that she means what WAS Marcus's type. Maria's fed up and gets up to go, though Marcus thinks she's overreacting.

On a building site where they're working late into the night, Fay greets Tim. She tells him that Anna and Owen are cool with the idea of them having contact and know she's gone to see him. He suggests they go for a cuppa in a few minutes when he finishes work.

Leanne has a go at Nick about Gail. She points out that Gail hasn't got a hope of saving up for a deposit on a cleaner's wages. She'll have to win the lottery. Nick says Gail will just want a small flat. Leanne points out that even if Gail manages to find a deposit, by the time she pays off a 25-year mortgage she'll be 89. Nobody will lend her the money. If she gets a shorter term she won't be able to afford the repayments. Leanne and Nick will be drawing their pensions by the time Gail gets a place of her own. "But I've told her she can stay," says Nick. "Well, you'll just have to tell her she can't," says Leanne.

Tim and Fay chat in a cafe. She thinks he understands her more than most grown-ups do.

Back at Kirsty's house, she senses somebody's been in. The back door is wide open but she tells the police Tyrone doesn't have a key because she had the locks changed. Ruby's passport is gone.

Tyrone checks in at a ferry terminal and pays 264 pounds in cash. He's got his hood up to avoid the CCTV camera he can see but it's clear to us that another is getting a good view of his face.

Back at the bar, Sean sees Marcus and goes to talk to him.

Tyrone and Fiz are in the queue of cars waiting to board. But when Tyrone sees the police checking each car he panics and drives away, sure they're looking for Ruby. "We'll have to think again," he tells Fiz.

The end.

Kirsty is sitting at home fretting over her daughter, she has Julie and Eileen for company, and they are offering her plenty of support and comfort. The policewoman comes in to report that all ports and airports have been put on alert and have been armed with photographs of the fugitives. Julie asks if they have had any sightings of them, but is told there hasn't been, but she assures them that everything that can be done is being done. She also reports they have been in touch with Connie Rathbone, who told them she hasn't seen Tyrone for some time, and has no knowledge of his whereabouts.

Kevin is being questioned inside Sally's house. He admits that he and Tyrone are now friends again, but that he hadn't been told of his intentions. He sticks to his guns that he had been babysitting for Sophie, who wanted to go out, fell asleep, and Tyrone must have taken Ruby while he was asleep. The policeman queries the fact that there is no sign of forced entry, and assumes that is why he slept through it. He asks if Tyrone would have had a set of keys. Sally tells him he didn't, but possibly she had left the door unlocked, she is not sure. He goes on to ask why, if Kevin had been so terribly tired, he would have volunteered to babysit, when it would have been easier just to go home and put his feet up. Kevin replies that he wanted to do something nice for his daughter. The policeman then tells him he understands that people like to do good deeds for people they care about, and can't help wondering if he had also done a good deed for Mr. Dobbs.

Kevin reiterates that he fell asleep. The man has to accept it, but does so reluctantly. He leaves with the warning that he only hopes he is telling the truth, for his sake. Kevin makes to leave right afterwards, but Sally's demeanour changes, and she asks where he thinks he is going? She snaps that she has some questions of her own for him.

Tim and Faye are chatting in a cafe, she is telling him she has been auditioning for the part of Annie in the school play. She asks if he will come to see it if she gets the part. He tells her he wouldn't miss it for the world. He then asks her what time she is expected back, and is told they hadn't really given her a time. He suggests they make a move, but she persuades him into five more minutes.

He goes on to say that he is taking her home right after the five minutes, because he wants to thank Anna for allowing them to see each other. Little Miss Liar tells him there is no need. When he insists, she tells him that Owen is very upset about it, and he would be the last person he would want to see. Tim asks her how Anna managed to persuade him to agree to it, if that was the case, and Faye just tells him that apparently women have their ways.

We are now in No. 5, where Anna and Owen are with Chesney and Katy. Just then Tina and Tommy come to the door, wondering if Ches has heard from his sister. Chesney goes off the deep end at them, saying if anyone would have heard it would be them, as they have done nothing but encourage them, and probably know where they are. Tina assures him she has no idea, and is as worried as they are. Ches rants that his sister goes from one nutter to another. Tommy gets angry then, and points out that the only nutter in all this is Kirsty. Chesney isn't convinced though, saying he must be a nutter to kidnap a baby. Tommy shouts back that the baby he kidnapped is his own daughter, and that he knows nothing! Tina decides they had better leave at that point, and asks them to please let her know if they hear anything.

After they leave, Katy has a go at Chesney, saying that nobody made Fiz go, it was her own decision. Anna also tells him that Fiz wanted to go, because she loves him. Chesney replies that he knows, and he hates Tyrone for it.

Back over in Sally's, she too is having a rant. This time the recipient is Kevin. It's pretty obvious she suspects he knows something, and tells him he can help Tyrone by talking to the police. He still swears he knows nothing, so she tells him that if anything happens to that child, she will never forgive him.

Tim and Faye arrive back in the street and notice all the police cars. A bystander tells them that a child has gone missing, which scares Faye, until he goes on to say that it was a baby girl. It scares Tim too, and he insists on walking her to her front door. Faye protests, but he insists, leaving her no choice but to come clean and admit she was seeing him without permission. She begs him not to tell Anna, and he agrees on the condition she never does anything that stupid again, and sends her packing. Her luck is really in tonight, she creeps into the house and finds Sylvia still asleep, and just as she is near the top of the stairs, she hears Anna and Owen returning, so has time to scoot into her room and get into her pyjamas.

Sean and Marcus are sitting having a drink, and getting along better than they have done in a very long time. Marcus unloads his troubles on Sean, telling him how unreasonable Maria had been, being paranoid for no apparent reason. Sean points out that maybe she had good reason, and points out that they are in a gay bar after all.

Tyrone and Fiz are parked by the side of the road listening to the news. They are disconcerted to hear their descriptions are being broadcast over the airwaves. Ty suggests they find somewhere to rest for the night, and figure out their next move.

Sophie is home now, so Kevin is making his leave with Jack. She is telling her Dad that none of it was his fault, that it was all down to Fiz and Tyrone. Kevin tells her he is sure they had good reason for doing what they did. After he leaves, Sophie says to her mother, "You don't believe him do you?". Sally replies that it doesn't matter what she believes, it's what the police believe that matters.

Nick drops into No. 8 and tries as tactfully as he can to take back his offer of Gail living with them. She is devastated, blames Leanne of course, and cries that she will end up in a homeless shelter. He points out that she is far from homeless, she just has to swallow her pride a little and doesn't have to move anywhere.

We are now eavesdropping on many conversations in the Rovers, but the topic of each one is the same, Fiz, Tyrone and abduction. General consensus is that nobody has much sympathy for them, especially Norris who of course would like to see them hung, drawn and quartered. Only he would have Tina up on that scaffold alongside them, as he figures she probably masterminded the whole thing. When they finally tell him to shut up, he remarks that he is only voicing what everyone else is thinking. Stella points out that the day he speaks for her, is the day she has herself committed.

Sean bounces back over to Marcus' table, very excited because he has just met a real life stunt man who has a picture of himself with Tom Cruise. He wants Marcus to come over to meet him too. Seeing his excitement, Marcus remarks how he had forgotten how he enjoyed watching him meet new friends, how he dives right in head first, and is completely himself. Sean asks again that he come over to meet him too, but Marcus sadly tells him it's not him any more, but he should go back, as he is obviously in there. Sean makes it clear that he would much rather stay with Marcus, but the latter shakes his hand, and bids him goodnight.

Fiz and Tyrone have found a B & B, and judging by the landlady's accent, I would guess they are in Wales. She asks where they are going, and Ty tells her they are visiting friends in London. She asks where they are from, and Fiz tells her they have just come off the ferry from Ireland, that they had moved there a couple of years ago. Convinced, the lady bustles off to get their room ready.

Back in the Rovers, Norris is still waxing lyrical about Tina being the Head Honcho behind the Great Coronation Street Kidnapping, when the subject of the conversation walks in with Tommy. She overhears enough to demand to know what exactly is being said. He tries to backtrack, but Rita drops him in it by telling Tina exactly what he has been saying. Tina now has the floor, and tells everyone who cares to listen that she will tell them the same as she told the police, that she knew nothing of Tyrone's intentions, or where he has gone. However, she goes on to say that if he had come to her and asked for her help, she would have given it to him gladly. This causes a gasp, and Audrey points out that he abducted a baby. Tina corrects her by saying that on the contrary, he liberated his daughter from an evil vicious manipulative cow, and when the truth does finally come out, they will all owe Tyrone a massive apology!

Anna and Owen are also talking about the abduction/liberation in No. 6. Anna is saying that she can't help but feel for Kirsty, that she couldn't bear it if anyone took Faye away. Owen assures her that it is not going to happen, that they will watch her closer than ever. He remarks that he only wishes they could get it across to her why they worry so much. Anna replies that she thinks she might be coming round to their way of thinking, that it's been close to two weeks now since she last saw Tim, so maybe the message is finally getting through. Owen replies that he still plans to watch her like a hawk.

Marcus arrives home, and both he and Maria apologise in unison. Maria explains that she still has a hard time with that time in his life sometimes. He replies that he too has trouble with it, and this life is still all so new to him. He points out that there is bound to be hiccups. Maria replies that she shouldn't have stormed off the way she did, and he tells her he shouldn't have let her. She asks what he did after she left, and he tells her he bumped into Sean, and they had sat with a couple of drinks, almost like old times. Maria turns away hurt, but Marcus turns her back around, reminding her that he had said 'almost' like old times. He asks that they try to forget the labels, that he has found what he was looking for in her, and would she please replace 'gay' with 'happy'. She smiles and tells him she is happy as well, as they hug.

Just at that moment, Kirk and Beth arrive home with their kebabs. Seeing them in each other's arms, they tell them they are glad they have sorted out their differences and will make themselves scarce. Marcus calls them back, sits them down and tells them they have to leave - permanently, and very soon. Beth is shocked, but Kirk can see it from their point of view. He assures Beth that they may be homeless, but will always have each other. Beth tells Marcus and Maria that it's a good job she is feeling randy, or she would be having this out with them right now. Everyone is embarrassed, including Kirk at that remark, but as they leave immediately to take care of business, it gets Marcus and Maria off the hook for having to discuss the eviction further.

The police are back in No. 9. They report they have no evidence that baby Ruby has been taken out of the country, which is good news, and assure them they will not rest until they have located their whereabouts and brought them back. Kirsty is listening from the stairs, holding Ruby's rabbit and sobbing with what looks like genuine tears.

Tyrone and Fiz are laying on the bed in their rented room, and the two children are happy in their cots. Tyrone apologises that it's not a nicer room, but Fiz doesn't care, she assures him it's the company that counts, and there is nowhere she would rather be than by his side. He admits it's going to be tricky trying to get out of the country, but suggests they both get some sleep, as they have a long day ahead tomorrow. Declaring their love for each other, they close their eyes.

Monday 11 February

Written by Carmel Morgan Directed by Noreen Kershaw

Fiz and Ty discuss their situation over breakfast in the B&B. Tyrone wonders if Kevin will be up for a difficult time but Fiz thinks they won't bother him. They exchange a few jokes with the establishment owner and then wonder what to do next. They can't afford to stay there indefinitely. There's not a lot of places they can afford or will be recognized.

At home, Kirsty is distraught. Eileen is trying to comfort her but Kirsty won't be. Eileen says they will be found and assures her that Tyrone will take care of Ruby. Eileen figures Fiz and Ty are under a lot of pressure because they know they are fugitives.

Down the street, Chesney and Katy are discussing the situation too. They figure Tyrone will go to prison. Katy is glad they didn't know about the plan ahead of time but though she thinks what Fiz did is wrong, she also understands that being in love seems to have turned Fiz's brain to mush.

Anna and Owen are trying to figure out who's minding Faye and chaperoning her. Faye gives them lip about it all even though Owen insists it's all for her protection. Faye is missing her mates because she's been confined to barracks. Anna does understand.

Kylie gets Max ready for school. Gail, still in her robe, asks Kylie to put a hook on the door of her little box bedroom. Kylie is affronted because Gail isn't dressed and ready to take Max to school. Gail doesn't plan to. She's just the lodger now and doesn't feel like anyone's granny. Kylie asks again if she'll take Max but Gail isn't bending. She indicates a cupboard that she's taken over for her own food and for the third or fourth time, makes sure to mention the "box bedroom"

Izzy offers to include Faye on a movie night with her and Gary. Cafe discussion turns to Fiz and Tyrone's escape. Sunita thinks love will addles the brain. I guess there speaks the voice of experience! At another table, Beth, Kirk and Tracy are talking about the big move, and it seems Kirk and Beth are taking on the butcher's flat. Tracy is trying to find out if Maria and Marcus really are a couple. Beth and Kirk look at paint samples for their decorating future. Tracy is in no hurry to get to work but when Rob comes in she slinks up behind him with suggestive comments about a dream about them going on a mini break to Venice...hint, hint. They trade a few more sickening remarks before he leaves and Tracy asks for another coffee. Roy arrives to find Sylvia concentrating. He confronts her with the lie about losing her watch in the salon. He's discovered that she hasn't been there since she returned. She doesn't react. He wonders if she's ok but she insists she's fine though needs the afternoon off to attend an appointment.

Back to the culpable couple who are blowing bubbles for the children while sitting outside on the very cold looking garden furniture. Tyrone figures he can get a job anywhere but Fiz doesn't know where unless they can get some fake id. She doesn't have any more ideas than he does. He doesn't think they'll have much money left after paying the B&B bill and suggests Chesney help them out. Fiz doesn't want him involved but Tyrone plays the guilt card, they have to look after the kids. If they can borrow a couple hundred they can probably get away and later, he'll have the money from the garage from Kevin. Fiz relents and agrees to call Chesney.

Katy has returned from seeing mates who all gave her a hard time about Fiz and Tyrone running off with Ruby. They're both resentment that they seem to be looked at in the same light when they truly knew nothing about it. Chesney thinks she should try to just ignore them. She decides to go back to the red rec anyway. After she leaves, Chesney takes a call from Fiz.

Roy talks to Hayley about his mother. He thinks Sylvia's memory is deteriorating. Sylvia comes through to leave. Hayley asks where she's going but gets no answer. Roy tries to find out but gets the sharp side of Sylvia's tongue. Roy watches her get into a cab. Hayley suspects that Sylvia might just have a date but Roy has a bad feeling.

Fiz is horrified to find out that people think Chesney and Katy aided their escape. Fiz defends Tyrone and says she has no regrets. Chesney says her history with men is rubbish. Fiz asks for help. Chesney refuses. Fiz pleads. She's desperate. He relents. She doesn't need a huge amount and also suggests he take the 20 quid out of Hope's piggy bank. He puts the phone down in disgust. Doesn't even ask where she is. I watched this scene twice.

Faye is home from school. Anna tells her she's got a surprise. No, she's not seeing her dad, she's going for her tea with Gary and Izzy. Faye seems underwhelmed.

Sean asks Katy about Fiz, worried. She can't spend her life on the run, he says. Tracy is in the corner shop as well and she's her usual cynical, bitchy self. Sunita tries to play peacemaker, taking the neutral stand. Sean believes that Katy didn't know ahead of time but Tracy believes they did and they'll all go to jail. She even quips "You could all have your own wing!" She insists on her point of view, citing Chesney's utter loyalty to his sister. Katy is devastated and defends her fella.

Eileen lets the police in but they have no news. Everyone has been questioned thoroughly and they don't believe they have any leads though are still pushing. Kirsty doesn't think they can go underground with two children in tow. The police suggest that Kirsty make a public appeal. It will put the nation on alert.

Max bounces in after school to find Gail ironing. David has brought him and isn't pleased because he had to skip a couple of clients to pick Max up. He mentions to Gail that he and Kylie need a couple of things ironed. Gail happily will leave the ironing board up for them. Wha?? David accuses her of sulking and then makes to leave. Wait a minute, she stops him, she'll mind Max, if he pays her. He is frustrated, and fed up with her complaints about the box bedroom and takes Max back to work with him. Maxy is chuffed. Gail is not.

Anna is watching what seems to be news about the kidnapping on telly. Izzy and Gary come in looking for Faye! Seems Faye gave them the slip while they were in line getting tickets and popcorn and she made a break for it. They checked everywhere but Anna is pretty sure Faye's gone looking for Tim.

Chesney has gathered some money together, a bit over 200 pounds. He puts some fruit in a cloth bag when Katy comes in griping about Tracy. She discovers the money and knows straight away he's been in touch with Fiz. In Wales. So he knows but we didn't hear that tidbit of information change hands. Text much? Katy is furious that Fiz is dragging Chesney into it. She doesn't want him to do it but he feels he's got no choice. He's got to help his sister. Katy threatens to phone the police if he leaves the house. Will she?

Katy is horrified that Chesney is getting himself involved with what Fiz and Ty are up to and tells him the best way he can help Fiz is to go to the police. But blood's thicker than water so Ches goes off to give his sister the money with Katy's threat that she'll call the police herself ringing in his ears.

Round at Anna's she's telling Gary and Izzy that she's spoken to Tim who is bringing Faye home. She says he claims he had no idea that Faye was seeing him behind their backs and, in view of Faye's past history, is inclined to believe him. Anna snaps at Gary and Izzy for allowing her to sneak off but then apologises. She's upset and worried and knows she shouldn't be taking it out on them.

Roy is trying to track down his mother so he goes to the cab office to find out where she was taken. Eileen doesn't know and Lloyd is reluctant to divulge confidential information but seeing Roy's concerned expression he relents and tells him it was Canalside Road. Roy tells them he's worried about Sylvia's recent behaviour and how she keeps forgetting things so, seeing as his shift's over, Lloyd offers to drive Roy over there to try and find his mother.

At the B and B, Ty is singing Oasis songs to the babies. It could almost be a scene of domestic bliss apart from the fact that he and Fiz are on the run. The both nearly jump out of their skins when there's a knock on the door. It's the landlady bringing the phone - there's a call for Fiz. It's Ches who's rung to say he's coming with £225. Ty is amazed, he didn't think Ches would do it, but he reckons it should be enough to get them across to Ireland. Fiz arranges to meet Ches at the pub next door but she's looking very anxious indeed.

We move to Gail's house, or rather David and Kylie's, where Gail has gone into overdrive making a point that she is now the lodger. She's cooked a lamb stew and dumplings but there's only enough for her and Max because, as she points out, a lodger doesn't make tea for the landlord. She's had a lock put on the cupboard and labeled all the food, right down to writing her name on the eggs. But the final straw comes when she invites Max up to her room to watch the telly. Since it belongs to her, Gail has moved it upstairs leaving David and Kylie gaping open-mouthed at the empty space where it used to stand in the sitting room. How will they spend their evenings now?

Eileen has gone round to Kirsty's and offers to cook her something but Kirsty isn't hungry. She tells Eileen that the police want her to make and appeal on the television. She thinks it won't help because she says Ty will see how upset she is and it will make things worse because she says that's what he wants but Eileen tells her it will help to spread awareness. Kirsty clutches on to Ruby's white rabbit and tells Eileen she doesn't want Fiz bringing up her baby. Eileen tries to reassures her that that isn't going to happen.

Fiz goes into the pub next to the B and B. She goes up to the bar to get a drink but she's extremely jumpy, looking over her shoulder every time someone comes through the door.

Back in Weatherfield, Tim is walking Faye home. She's promising him she won't do it again but he tells her she can't keep lying. Faye tells her Dad she just wants to see him so Tim tells her they either do it properly or not at all.

Inside the house Anna is still waiting anxiously with Gary and Izzy. They are relieved when there's a knock at the door. Anna is quite curt with Tim but thanks him for brining Faye home. She tells Faye that she has some explaining to do.

We return to Fiz in the pub. She's hugely relieved when Ches finally arrives. They sit down and she asks if he has the money but Ches replies that he's come to try and talk some sense into her.

There's another change of scene and now we find ourselves in a casino where a rather bewildered-looking Roy is wandering round. He spots what he is looking for: his mother. Sylvia is deeply engrossed in playing a slot machine and just as Roy walks up to her is spews out a large number of coins.

Back in the pub Fiz and Chesney are having a heated, whispered debate. She tells him that all Ty wants is to be with his little girl but Ches is convinced that they'll be caught and even if they're not asks Fiz what kind of life they'll have with the police after them wherever they go. He asks her about the kids and Fiz tells him they'll have all the love they need but Chesney tells her he knows she's not convinced and says he can hear it in her voice. Ches tells FIz that it's John Stape all over again but Fiz tells him that Ty is the opposite of that man. Chesney says that when they catch Ty he'll never see his baby again. He tells Fiz to think about it. Then he hands over the money. Fiz thanks her brother, gives him a kiss and then goes, leaving Chesney looking thoroughly dejected.

In the B and B Ty and Fiz are ready to leave. Fiz looks really worried but Ty is far more upbeat and keen to get going now they have the money. As they gather their belongings, Fiz gives Ty a kiss and tells him she loves him but there's a sense that there's something she's not telling him.

At Anna's they're talking to Tim and Faye about what happened. Gary doesn't trust Tim but it looks like Faye's the one not to be trusted when it comes out that she snuck out last week when Sylvia was babysitting, met up with Tim and told him that Anna had given her permission. Tim admits that he worked out what was going on but now he wants everything to be above board and to sit down together and work out a plan. Gary gets angry and tries to step in but Anna says Tim's right. Faye gets dispatched upstairs against her wishes and Gary and Izzy are asked to leave so Anna can talk to Tim.

David and Kylie are slumped on the sofa wondering what people did for entertainment before television was invented. They run through the various options available but talking to each other or playing snakes and ladders are none too appealing. They can't even go to the pub because that would mean asking Gail to babysit. Gail, who has been upstairs watching a wildlife programme on bees, leans over the sofa in a very meaningful way and tells them about the queen bee and how all the worker bees buzz around looking after her because she's the one who gave them life and, without her, they would all wither and die. It's too much for Kylie who thinks she's the one who's going to wither and die without a telly. She tells David it's a telly or a divorce. David says he'll see if Jason has a spare one in the flat but he's not about to stir himself off the sofa so, with nothing better to do, Kylie stomps off upstairs to bed. Gail comes back into the room holding a glass of wine. She gives David a kiss before telling him that she's drawn a line on the bottle.

We return to the B and B where Fiz and Ty are coming down the stairs with the babies. At that moment there's a knock on the front door and someone calls out "it's the police". Ty quickly tries the back door but it's locked and Fiz tells him they have to let the police in. She goes to open the front door and lets in three police officers. They ask him to hand over Ruby but he refuses, telling them that he's protecting his baby and that Kirsty is dangerous. The policeman points out that Ty is already on bail for assault and says this could amount to child abduction. Ty calls out to Fiz to tell the police that Ruby is best off with him but the policeman says he's sure that Fiz knows what's best. Ty looks confused and then Fiz admits: she was the one who phoned the police. She says she's sorry but tells Ty she had to do it.

Hayley is just closing up the cafe when a furious Sylvia comes storming in, followed by Roy. She didn't take kindly to being followed and says that she'd only called in at the casino out of curiosity. She claims she's never stepped foot inside one before or played a slot machine but Roy said she looked pretty familiar with it to him. He tells Hayley that she won £50 and says this explains the missing watch, the stolen purse and the money Sylvia asked to borrow. Roy asks Sylvia how long she's had a gambling problem but she's in complete denial. Hayley tells Roy that now she thinks about it, Sylvia did keep disappearing when she was in Palm Springs. Hayley suggests they should call Milton but Sylvia says this has nothing to do with him and says how dare they poke their noses into her affairs and accuse her of being some sort of addict. "Your own mother," she adds tearfully. "After all I've done for you."

Ty is holding on to Ruby, refusing to give her up. He can't believe what Fiz has done but she says their plans were a pipe dream. She tells him that this way he'll have the opportunity to prove his innocence in court. Ruby starts to cry and a tearful Ty finally hands her to Fiz who then passes the baby over to the police. Seconds later another officer steps in and arrests Ty. Fiz can't believe it and cries out, Ty struggles and the policeman holds him against the door as they handcuff him.

Now that they're on their own, Anna confronts Tim about the way he's been in touch with Faye. She tells him that she's worked hard with Faye and she's not about to let him shatter everything she's achieved. He says all he wants is access to his daughter and that it's obvious Faye wants to see him. He says he doesn't want to take her away from Anna, just spend some time with her doing stuff like taking her to the fair. Anna petulantly tells him Faye doesn't like fairs. She says the rides make her sick. Anna tells Tim that Faye will just get confused. She adds that Faye might talk tough but underneath she's just a frightened little girl. Anna says that after everything Faye's been through she's not going to let her get hurt any more. She says that Gary's right, they don't know Tom from Adam. "I'm her dad!" he exclaims. "Since when?" asks Anna. Tim says that after what her boyfriend did to him, pinning him up against a wall and issuing threats, he thinks he's being pretty reasonable. He says it does make him wonder how stable a home this is. Anna stands up and says it's time he left. As the door closes behind Tim the camera pulls back and we see that Faye has been sitting on the stairs, listening. "I hate Owen and I hate you," she shouts.

Chesney arrives home just as the police drive up outside Kirsty's house. Katy comes running out and tells him she swears she didn't call the police. She can't believe it when Ches tells her that Fiz was the one who did it. The police go into Kirsty's house. She's desperate to know if they've found Ruby. They tell her that she's safe and well and that they've apprehended Ty. Genuine relief floods over Kirsty as Eileen puts a comforting arm around her.

Meanwhile in Wales a tearful Fiz stands holding Hope as two policemen lead Ty out of the B and B and into a waiting car. He's a broken man and doesn't even look in Fiz's direction as she sobs that she's sorry.

Wednesday 13 February

It's breakfast time at Anna's, and Faye is angry because Owen threatened Tim. Owen tries to excuse his behaviour by saying they are worried about her. She points out that she's always being told how bad bullying is - how is this different? She picks up her bag and goes off to school.

At the Platts', they're all freezing because the boiler has packed up. David and Kylie want Gail to get it sorted straight away. She points out it is no longer her house, so no longer her responsibility. She goes off back to bed.

Tyrone is being interviewed by the police. He wants to know how he can kidnap his own daughter. The policewoman points out that Kirsty must have been going out of her mind with worry. She then mentions Fiz, who she believes is Tyrone's girlfriend, and who was there when he was arrested. Tyrone points out that Fiz had nothing to do with it, and it was in fact her who called the police.

Eileen is with Kirsty when there's a knock on the door. It's Julie with a few provisions. She says she can't imagine what Kirsty has been going through. "Well it's over now," says Kirsty, "and Tyrone is where he belongs. I hope they throw away the key."

In the cafe, Roy tells Hayley that he holds Milton responsible for his mother's addiction to gambling. When the lunchtime rush is over he's going to Skype Milton and give him a piece of his mind.

Anna is voicing her concerns about Faye and Tim, to Gary. She wonders if she has the right to stop Faye from seeing her real dad. Tim has passed his risk assessment so the only thing stopping Faye from seeing him is Anna herself.

Chesney has gone to the police station to meet Fiz. When she comes out he says that Tyrone needs his head examined for ever getting her involved. Fiz tells him Tyrone was desperate.

Sophie and Jenna go into the pub and tell Mandy that they're going to update Jenna's CV. Mandy is sarcastic. "Oh really? A teenager's input, that should help no end!" she says. Adding that Jenna had a wonderful career ahead of her. The two girls decide to go somewhere else, and Lloyd begs Mandy to cut them some slack. Mandy reckons that Jenna has not only lost her job, but her head as well.

David is in the pub, having lunch with Audrey, and talking about the boiler. Someone is coming to look at it. Audrey reckons Gail will be loving the situation, she likes to think she's the glue that holds the family together. She urges David to stick to his guns and show his mother that he's capable of sorting out problems on his own.

Back at the police station, Tyrone is shocked to find himself being charged with three counts of assault against Kirsty, and of causing actual bodily harm when Kirsty fell down the stairs. He will be held in custody overnight and taken before magistrates in the morning. Tyrone protests that he never touched her. "She's lying, she does this all the time. Why won't anybody listen?"

Sophie and Jenna are now in the cafe, sorting out the CV.

Anna is talking to Owen about Faye and Tim. Anna feels it's like a fairytale and she's been cast as the wicked stepmother. Owen tells Anna to go and pick Faye up from school and he'll cook them all tea, then they can discuss it round the table like a family.

Roy comes down and tells Sylvia that he's been speaking to Milton about her gambling. It seems that he's as unhappy about it all as they are. Sylvia is furious, but Roy won't be put off and wants to know what exactly happened between her and Milton.

David is just seeing out the boiler repair man when Gail comes back. She asks if the heating is back on. It isn't, David was just getting an estimate, which is a fortune. He asks if there is any insurance for the heating. Gail says she hasn't got any, but then she's just the lodger. She goes to the cupboard under the stairs and pulls out a small fan heater, and announces she's taking it to her box bedroom!

Carla sees Peter coming out of the bookies. He tells her he's locking up to take Simon for a pizza. Just then they see Chesney and Fiz arriving home. Peter comments that Tyrone doesn't seem to be with them. Carla thinks he will be banged up, after what he's done, running off with the baby. And also, if it's true what people are saying about him knocking Kirsty about..... Peter, however, reckons that the Tyrone he knows wouldn't hurt a fly. He adds that he also ran off with Simon, the only difference being that he was talked out of it before the police arrived. "Whatever that poor lad's done, I'm not going to be the one to throw the first stone."

Kylie marches into the salon and demands to know why the heating is still not working. David tells her it's going to cost two hundred pounds. He thinks that if they hold out, Gail will back down. Kylie tells him that Gail is at home under a duvet watching a film with Max. She picked him up from school and did his tea. Kylie is worried in case Gail packs up all the things she does for Max, as they depend on her. She tells David to get it sorted.

Sylvia is telling Roy how it was all going well with Milton until his daughter arrived. She and Charity did not get on, and Charity had her father under her thumb. Then she found out about the medical expenses for Sylvia's hip, and accused Sylvia of sponging off Milton. So Sylvia went to the casino to win the money for her op. At first she won, but then she lost everything and Milton had to bail her out. Roy can't understand why she is going to casinos now she's back home. Sylvia says she has to win her money back, but she's been losing. Roy asks how much she owes now, and she tells him it's just under two thousand pounds. "You have a gambling problem, Mother," says Roy.

The mealtime discussion at Anna's isn't going too well. Owen tries to tell her how worried Anna is when Faye goes off with Tim. "You mean my dad? You can call him that you know, because that's what he is," snaps Faye. She tells them they can't stop her speaking to him, and leaps up from the table and grabs her mobile phone. There's a whole lot of shouting, and Anna takes the phone from Faye's hand. Faye retorts that they still can't stop her speaking to him, and grabs her laptop. Owen lunges forward and wrestles the laptop out of her hands, then smashes it to the floor. Faye screams that that is her whole life, and he has just smashed it. She runs upstairs. Anna holds her head in her hands. Then she turns on Owen, asking him what he thinks he's doing. He tells her he thinks Faye is too young to be using the internet. Anna thinks she's too young to be grappling with a middle aged man, twice her height and weight. She screams at him to go, to get out and leave her on her own to think.

Out in the Street, Julie runs into Eileen, out for a walk with Kirsty and Ruby. Eileen tells Julie that Kirsty has been on the phone for most of the time, trying to find out what's happened to Tyrone. Just then Fiz comes out of her front door and Kirsty rushes across to her, spitting venom. Eileen and Julie are close behind, and Fiz tells them they've swallowed Kirsty's lies, and don't know anything. She tells them that Kirsty is playing at the sad little victim, while she's been terrorizing Tyrone for months. Kirsty then tells them all that Tyrone has been charged with three counts of assault, he's going nowhere. Just then Carla rushes up. She points out that three against one is bullying, and takes Fiz back inside her house.

We then see Tyrone, put into a cell. He sits down on the bed, a tear rolling down his cheek.

We start off in Roy's Rolls and the subject is gambling and the evils of casinos between Sylvia and Roy. They are about a million miles apart in their opinions, Roy feels the casinos should take responsibility when they see someone who obviously can ill afford it getting out of their depth. Sylvia asks him if he would tell an obese person not to have a fryup? He replies that he just might, if they were in there eating them day after day, he might suggest a more nutritious meal. for the sake of their health.

She concedes that he probably would, but the casinos are in it to make money, and are not likely to possess Roy's high morals. She wants to continue with the conversation but is getting frustrated because Roy is working on his Sudoku book at the same time, and snatches it away, saying she wants his full attention. He tells her that in times of stress, he finds comfort in the security of numbers.

This reminds Sylvia of the time Roy had won the Maths prize at school, and that his teacher had told her he was the best pupil he had ever taught, reckoned he was faster than a calculator. A little light then goes on over Sylvia's head, and she tells him not to move as she has had a brilliant idea. Roy groans in anticipation.

Anna is running her Faye problems by Owen and Gary in the street, she feels that the Tim problem is not going to go away, and they have to find a way to deal with it. Owen's idea of dealing with it is to slam the door in his face each time he comes knocking. Anna looks at him in dismay, telling him that his answer always has to involve violence. Owen tells her he doesn't mean it literally, but the answer is not in inviting him round for his tea, that if they let him get close to Faye, it will only get worse. Anna is wondering how much worse it could get than the way it is at the moment.

David is bantering with Max over whether he will have cereal or toast for his breakfast when an ear piercing scream comes from upstairs. To the amusement of Max, his mother comes thundering down the stairs soaking wet, wrapped only in a towel, demanding to know why the water in the shower was freezing cold. David points out that if the boiler isn't working, they not only have no heat, but no hot water either. Gail comes downstairs with her coat on, and her towel and toiletries under her arm. Kylie asks where she is going, and is told Sally has offered her the use of her beautiful bathroom, which has gallons of piping hot water on demand. As she turns her smug face to leave, Kylie turns her furious one on David and demands he get it fixed - NOW!

It is coming clear to Roy now what his mother's idea was. She has armed him with a book which explains how one can improve one's odds in a game of cards by noting and counting the cards already played. He concedes that it could probably work, and she points out that it would require someone with a mathematical brain to pull it off, someone who loves numbers, someone who is akin to a human calculator. Who would that be then? She asks Roy if he thinks he could do it, and he replies that he probably could with a bit of practice, but why would he want to? She points out that it would be to make money, to break the bank of Monte Carlo so to speak. She excitedly tells him he is her secret weapon, her ace in the hole - her Rainman.

Roy is aghast. He demands to know if she has learned nothing from her experience in those places? He points out to her that she has an addiction, and he will do everything in his power to help her, but this book is ridiculous, and that she should promise him she will never set foot in a casino again. He waits for her promise, but she just shrugs, and turns away to serve a customer.

Fiz is on the phone to the prison because she hasn't heard from Tyrone. She asks if they will give him a message - and you can imagine what they told her. She hangs up in disgust. Katy asks why he hasn't called her, and she replies that he probably doesn't want to, because he is blaming her for being in jail. She leaves for work (Wow! just as we left the cafe we saw Anna arriving for her shift too - that makes four of them working today, almost as many staff as customers!) telling Katy to let her know immediately if Tyrone should call there.

Back in the cafe, Jenna is sitting at a table with Sophie looking through the jobs section of the newspaper. Not finding anything, she suggests she should possibly be looking for something away from Weatherfield. Sophie's face falls when she mentions places she could go, like Leeds, London, Australia or America, saying there was nothing to keep her here. Sophie points out that there is her there, which brings Jenna back down to earth, and she holds her hand, saying of course there is, and there is nowhere she would rather be. (Oh yes, Sophie couldn't possibly go with her could she? Not with the promising career she has down the street standing behind the counter of the Corner Shop! Let's find Jenna a job in the factory or somewhere instead!)

When Fiz arrives, only Roy is behind the counter, stating that his mother is upstairs. He promptly takes off out, saying he hopefully wouldn't be long. Faye's social worker comes in asking to speak to Anna, who emerges from the back. She tells her she needs to speak to her alone, so with Fiz's permission, they go to No. 6 to talk.

Tina arrives at Roy's to pick up a coffee. While she is in there, her mobile rings and it turns out to be Tyrone, who wants to see her today. Fiz is hurt, and explains to Tina that she is sure he won't see her because he feels she betrayed him by calling the police. Tina assures her she is sure that isn't the reason. Fiz asks that she tell Tyrone that she loves him, and to ask him to call her.

The social worker reports to Anna that she is there to follow up a complaint made to them by Tim. Anna is shocked, saying Faye's welfare was nothing to do with Tim. The lady continues that he has told them that Anna's partner smashed up Faye's computer in front of her, and that she had told her father how upset she was. She asks Anna if it is true, which she has to reply in the affirmative, but defends Owen by saying he was very frustrated, that Tim's appearance has caused a lot of stress on the whole family.

The social worker tells Anna she will need to speak to both Faye and Owen alone. Anna angrily asks if she has to do that on Tim's say so? She is told that their number one concern is for Faye, and that Tim is worried that she might be living in a volatile household. Anna tells her that she feels she is suddenly the one under investigation, and the lady apologises, saying her being there is not for that, but they are obligated to follow up any complaints that Faye might be at risk.

Owen and Anna are now walking down the street discussing the visit. Owen is angry about it, and points out that Tim gave up all rights to Faye when he walked out years ago. She is trying to point out to him that threats and violence are not the answer, but he is too busy being angry at Tim. He tells her she can't let Faye see him, or she will end up losing her. Anna points out that the more they fight against him, the more they seem to lose. Owen then backs down and apologises, saying he can see that Anna is having to fight both Tim and him, and from now on he will support her. He tells her that Faye loves her, and she won't lose her. Anna asks him to be there for a family tea tonight, so they can talk to Faye together. He says he will do his utmost to be there on time.

Roy is in the casino, and has asked to see the manager. He tells him he should be ashamed on himself, and would like him to give his mother her money back. He points out that his mother, who is on a pension, has a gambling problem, which should have been very clear to his staff. He pulls out a detailed account of all her losses on which dates, and demands he does the right thing, and returns her money.

You can almost ready the manager's mind - he is obviously saying to himself "We've got a right one 'ere!" But he politely asks Roy if he is familiar with casinos, to which Roy answers that he is not. The manager patiently explains that it is a game, which you pay to play, and once you have played that game, you do not get your stake money back, that's the way the game works. Roy exclaims that it isn't fair, but the manager turns and asks if it had been the other way around, and his mother had won, would he be giving the money back to him should he have asked for it? Roy tells him that is a different question. The manager has decided he has had enough of patience, and tells him that he looks like a man who could use some fun, and offers him ten pounds worth of chips to use on any game he wishes. Roy declines the offer, asking if that is the way he indoctrinates new customers. The man suggests that Roy could take the ten pounds and walk out with a hundred, or possibly a thousand. In fact, he might win back his mother's losses. As Roy leaves in disgust, the manager calls out for him to tell his mother she is welcome back anytime.

We are now listening to a conversation between Jenna and Lloyd. He is regaling a long story about the day he discovered he would never by an astronaut, when he was crippled by vertigo going up the Blackpool Tower. The point of the story is to tell Jenna she can still be anything she chooses, except maybe an astronaut, as they cancelled the Space Program. Jenna tells him that the biggest dream she has at the moment is finding a way to pay her rent, as without a job, she can't do it. Lloyd suggests to her that there is a spare room at his place. She is not sure, but he points out it would just be stop-gap until she can get herself back on her feet.

Anna is trying to get through to Faye, telling her she wants her to talk to her. She explains that Owen feels really bad about destroying her laptop, and Faye agrees that he should too! She asks if she told her father about it, assuring her she wasn't in trouble if she did. After she admits it, Anna asks if the social worker had spoken to her too, and is told she had. Anna points out that it's not her that's in trouble, it is herself that is being investigated. Faye takes a deep breath and tells Anna that all she wants is to see her real Dad, and all she seems to want is to stop her. She asks Anna why, when she hasn't even given him a chance. Faye then asks Anna if she would want to see her real Mum or Dad if she was adopted? Anna agrees that she probably would. "Then why can't I?", says Faye. Anna tells her that at least they are talking about it now, so she should be patient and give her a chance.

An angry Roy arrives back at the cafe and reports to Sylvia that he has been to the den of iniquity trying to get her money back. He angrily tells her that they laughed in his face, saying that they suck in vulnerable people and bleed them dry. Sylvia points out that nobody forces anyone to go inside in the first place, but Roy feels that once they do, they are taken advantage of in a big way. He is on a roll now, and demands to have the book he had earlier. Sylvia is now having misgivings, telling him that nobody can win against the big boys. "I can", says Roy, "And I will, for one night only, I intend to beat them at their own game". Sylvia points out that he is going to need some practice, and a couple of partners to practice on. Right on cue, in walks Dennis and Ken, and in no time, they are sat down and have become partners - let the games begin!

Anna is trying to get hold of Owen, leaving messages telling him she has had a long think, and feels it best if they invite Tim round for his tea tonight. She feels this will be them taking control of the situation. Without waiting for Owen to get back to her, she calls Tim and invites him to tea.

David arrives home to find Kylie sitting in her wooly hat and coat under a blanket. She angrily asks David why he hasn't got their heating problem sorted, and doesn't want to hear any excuses, just get it sorted!

Ken is playing the devils advocate with Roy, pointing out that the chances are he will end up losing even more money. But Roy is concentrating on the game in hand. It's down to him and Dennis, his cards total 19, and even though his mother gasps, he asks for another card - it's a 2. He has 21 and has won the game. Dennis asks if he knew the next card was going to be a 2? But Roy says nothing, instead he walks over to the till. Sylvia tells him that with a few more games he will be ready. Taking a wad of money from the till, Roy replies "I'm ready now Mother - let's go and win back your money!"

Anna, Tim and Faye are sitting eating their tea, and Faye is obviously in her element to have him there. They are making small talk when Owen arrives home. He comes in all happy, but his face falls when he sees Tim with his feet under the table. "What's he doing here?", says Owen. Anna points out that she had left a message about it on his phone, which apparently got dropped into a concrete mixer. He points out to Anna that they had planned to talk about this tonight. Tim suggests that he should possibly leave, but Faye grabs his arm, telling him she doesn't want him to go. Owen tells her to let him leave, and that we don't always get what we want.

Anna sadly tells Owen that it was only earlier that he had said he would support her in this. He replies that he will, when they have had a chance to talk about it first. Faye interjects that that means after he has had a chance to bully everyone into doing what he wants. Owen replies to Faye that he is not a bully, and he doesn't tell tales, he is simply trying to keep the family together. Faye points out that it's not his family. "Our family", says Owen, getting angrier. He then tells Tim that they are her proper family, of which he is not a part, and to get out of the house before he does something he will regret.

Anna quietly tells him that actually she feels it might be better if he (Owen) left instead. He looks at her in shock, telling her she doesn't mean that. She tells him she does mean it, he is making things worse, and would like him to leave. He looks over at Tim, who, with a little smile playing on his lips, chomps down on his toast.

Is he going to go quietly? See the second episode below!

Owen is doing what Owen does best, well, second best, he is not using his fists yet, but he is ranting and raving and shouting the odds about Tim sitting down having his tea with Anna and Faye. Anna tries telling him to calm down, but he doesn't even appear to hear her, so in desperation, she tells him to leave - NOW! As Owen storms out, slamming the door behind him, Tim quietly asks Faye if things are like this all the time, but we don't hear Faye's answer.

Jenna is outside the Corner Shop telling Sophie she has decided to move in with her Mum and Lloyd, as financially it makes more sense, plus it has the added bonus of being able to spend more time with Sophie. (Oh I don't like this storyline, yet another smart career woman has been dumbed down, given up her career and moved into the Street - how long will it be before she is working at the factory as well!)

Talking about career women who are no longer career women, Kirsty is knocking on the door of No. 5, demanding to know if Fiz has Ruby's favourite bottle with the red top, as she needs it to soothe her after her ordeal. Fiz tells her she hasn't seen it, but will drop it round if it turns up. Kirsty then tells her she is surprised they didn't bang her up as well. Fiz just tells her that Tyrone will be out soon, as soon as they see through all Kirsty's lies, she goes on to tell her that they will get through this, and will end up with custody of Ruby too. Chesney breaks up the argument, and pulls Fiz back into the house.

It's visiting time at the prison, and Tina is talking to Tyrone. She is trying to convince him to talk to Fiz because she loves him. He tells her that none of this is any fault of Fiz's, and he wants Tina to tell her to forget about him, because with the charges he is facing, he could be locked up for a very long time. Tina replies that she will not tell her that, and if he really feels that way, he should be a man and tell her himself.

Over a cup of tea, Anna is apologising to Tim for Owen's behaviour. Tim points out that the man in a nutter, but Anna is not having that, and springs to Owen's defense, saying he is a good man who is just trying to protect Faye. Tim replies that he didn't expect to be welcomed with open arms, but questions whether he needs to fly off the handle the way he does.

Anna explains that Tim has turned their world upside down, and they don't know what to do for the best. Again Tim said he understands, but what is done is done, and it is what it is, and it would be hard to back away now, and what's more, he doesn't want to. Faye agrees that she doesn't want to lose him either. Anna concedes that she can see that. Tim however is still very concerned about Owen's behaviour, and wants to speak to Anna alone. Faye agrees, just as long as he comes up to see her room first.

We are now in the casino, and Roy asks if he looks conspicuous. Sylvia replies "No more than usual". Roy admits he is out of his comfort zone, and Ken agrees, saying this is the first time he has been inside one. Sylvia remarks that she loves casinos, but is a little nervous today. Ken questions whether they are doing the right thing, but Dennis is quite excited, telling Roy it is his opportunity to take on the big guys and right a wrong.

Owen is still trying to calm down with a pint in the Rovers with Gary and Izzy. He tells them his tale of woe about Tim complaining to Social Services about him, and now sitting down having his tea in 'his' house, as he calls it. He explains to them that he had told Tim to leave before he found out he had been invited by Anna, who had then told 'him' to leave. Izzy, who knows her father only too well, asks him to clarify what he means by 'told him to leave', and Owen admits he may have lost it a little. "What did you do? Exactly?" says Izzy.

Jenna joins Lloyd and Mandy at the bar, telling them she would love to move in if the offer still stands. This is all news to Mandy, and Lloyd admits he had made the offer earlier and thought she would be OK with it. Mandy concedes that she wouldn't like to see her on the street, but would rather she was further away from that Sophie Webster. Jenna tells her not to go on about that. So whether Mandy is thrilled about it or not, it appears to be a done deal, and before you can say 'rent free', Lloyd and Jenna are off to pick up her stuff and get her moved in today.

Gail comes home just as the boiler man is leaving, she remarks how nice it will be to have a warm house again. David complains that it cost £200 that he had to put onto a maxed out credit card, on top of the course he is going on next week that he had to pay for.

Gail smugly tells them she could get used to this having no responsibilities lark. David points out that she would have to contribute something towards the cost of the boiler. "I don't think so Sunshine - I know my rights", she trills as she skips upstairs.

There is serious concentration going on at the casino, at least there is on the part of Roy. The waitress comes along to take their drinks order, and Roy orders a hot chocolate - no marshmallows. The first game gets going, and he intently counts the cards as they are laid on the table. He wins! The game has gone exactly as he predicted it would, so he tells his mother to check his coat, as they are stopping!

Tim comes back downstairs, ready to speak to Anna alone. He tells her he just wants access to his daughter, and until today he was happy with whatever he could get. Anna asks him what has changed? Tim replies that what has changed is that he realises that her boyfriend is out of control, Anna tries to defend Owen, but Tim points out that if she hadn't thrown him out, he would probably have ended up like Faye's laptop, and has to ask her how long it will be before he has a go at Faye. Anna looks as if she has been punched in the stomach, because she knows Owen has hit Faye before, but weakly tells Tim that he won't. Tim replies that he can't be sure of that, and therefore he is going to apply for custody.

Oh Anna is angry now, and is telling Tim he has no right to come there making threats when he is not even supposed to have any contact with Faye. He disappears out of her life for years, then comes back making demands? She doesn't think so! Tim fights back that he lost his daughter, and the one crumb of comfort that he had was that she was happy and safe. Anna counters that she 'is' happy and safe, and if he wants to take it to court, bring it on because she intends to fight him with every ounce of strength she has to keep 'her' daughter.

Tim now backs off a little, and tells her he might have been a little hasty, but has to be sure she is in the right place. Anna tells him she understands that he is feeling guilty for not being there for her all those years when she needed him, but he can't make up for that by trying to break up their family. He tells her that he doesn't want to do that. So Anna tells him to stop with the threats, and sit down so they can talk.

Owen is still trying to justify his behaviour to Izzy and Gary, but they are not agreeing with him. Izzy tries to explain that it is a delicate situation, that needs handling a little less like a bull in a china shop. She tells him that Faye is bound to be curious about her real parents, it's only natural, and maybe her having contact with her father could be a good thing. She angrily tells him to stop being so macho, and try to see the situation from Faye's point of view.

We are back in the casino now, and Roy is doing very well indeed. His winnings are up to £1,900, and Ken wants him to quit while he is ahead. But Roy will not quit until he has his mother's £2,000 back, and promptly wins the other £100 in the next hand. NOW he is ready to quit!

Just as they are gathering their things together, the manager, who looks very familiar to me, but I can't place where I have seen him before, asks to have a word with Roy, as he has been alerted to suspicious activity at this table. Roy counters that he has broken no rules, he was merely counting cards. The manager pounces, saying he is glad he is admitting to it. Roy explains his method in detail, adding that he was not contravening the rules of this or any other casino, because he checked in advance.

Roy goes on to say that if the management should refuse to pay him his winnings, he will report him to the Gambling Commission. Mr. Manager counters that if Roy has read the rules, he will also know that the management reserves the right to ban anyone they choose from entering their premises again. Roy assures him it won't be necessary to do that, because he abhors gambling, and doesn't plan to set foot inside there ever again. With that, he ushers his entourage out to pick up his winnings.

Anna is telling Tim that she will agree to him seeing Faye for one hour, once a week at the house, only when she is there to supervise, and that he has to arrange these meetings through her. She also tells him that it will be on her terms, and if she has to cancel at any time, she will. She also states that if Faye contacts him directly, he is to tell her. Tim protests that this all sounds very formal, but Anna tells him he can take it or leave it. He decides to take it, and Faye is overjoyed about it when she hears.

Tina and Fiz sit down with a cup of tea, and although Tina had told Tyrone she wouldn't do it, she does. She tells a shocked Fiz that Tyrone wants her to forget about him.

Sylvia is excitedly telling Hayley how wonderful Roy had been at the casino. Hayley for her part cannot believe her Roy had actually been gambling for money, and is totally shocked that he has taken the casino for £2,000. Sylvia is all for going to a different casino tomorrow and the day after, and to keep going until they are rich, but Roy tells her in no uncertain terms that it was a one-off thing to get her money back, and that is an end to the matter. Sylvia pleads with him, telling him he has a gift that should be used - that for the first time in his life he has done something she can be proud of, and he lets her down.

Roy is very upset now. He tells Sylvia he is not proud of what he did, in fact he is somewhat ashamed. She is making him feel like a circus act, and he tells her she is worse than Alec Gilroy, as he rushes out the door. (For those too young to remember Roy's dealings with Alec Gilroy, the Coronation Street Blog has the explanation)

Fiz tells Tina that she has to see Tyrone, as she won't let him do this. Tina explains that she thinks he is depressed, but that only makes Fiz more determined to show him she is on his side, and plans to stay a part of his life forever.

A game of Monopoly is going on between Faye and her Dad when Owen comes home. Anna asks him if he has calmed down, and he tells her he has, and immediately apologises to Tim for his behaviour, explaining that he is very protective towards Faye. "So am I", says Tim.

Faye wins the game, and asks if they can play again, but Tim tells her he has to go, but will see her again next Monday teatime. Owen says nothing until after the door has closed on Tim, he then questions Anna about it. She resolutely tells him she has told Tim he can see Faye once a week. There is a pregnant pause, then he says "OK, If that's what you want love".

Sylvia and Hayley are now having a heart to heart. Sylvia wants to know all about Alec Gilroy, and Hayley explains, (but not in as much detail as the Coronation Street Blog does). She finishes by telling Sylvia that Alec was of course exploiting Roy, just as she, Sylvia, was. Sylvia agrees that Hayley is right. Just at that moment Roy comes back in. Hayley asks where he went, and he tells her he had to calm down. He then apologises to Sylvia for getting angry with her earlier. Sylvia tells him it is she who should be apologising for making him do something he didn't want to do.

She then explains to him that the thing she was most proud of was the fact he had stood up for her. He looks surprised, and tells her of course he would stand up for her, she is his mother. He then pulls out her watch from his bag, explaining he happened to be passing the pawnbrokers, and they were still open, so got it back for her. Sylvia, with tears in her eyes, throws her arms around him, much to his obvious discomfort. He then remarks that the watch is two minutes slow by the way.

Anna is packing Faye off to bed, and as she gives her a hug, asks if she likes being with Tim more than her. Faye looks puzzled at that question, and Anna hastily tells her to forget she asked, she is just being silly, and packs her off upstairs.

She tells Owen that she couldn't help feeling a pang of jealousy when she was watching Faye and Tim together. He points out that she didn't have to agree to him seeing her. Anna replies that she didn't have much choice, following his behaviour earlier, she points out that Tim could have reported him, and it might have jeopardised the adoption. Owen tells her not to believe things like that, but she is not going to be placated about it. She tells him that one more outburst like he made earlier and the two of them are finished. He tells her he will try, but she snaps that he has to do better than that. She finishes with telling him in no uncertain terms that if it comes to a choice between him and Faye, she will win hands down every time. As the credits roll, the camera pans out to the stairs, where a smirking Faye is listening intently.

Anna's short tempered with Owen. He apologizes but she still calls him on it and tells him he needs to put an end to his temper tantrums. He says he was frustrated and it's only because he cares. Anna says she does understand but needs him to be there for her, calmly. Faye has come down and overheard that Owen will be keeping an eye on her today. She doesn't look impressed. He goes upstairs and she asks Anna if they are ok, because she heard the arguing.

Kylie isn't happy that David is going away on a course for three days. He tries to reassure her that it's not a holiday. Gail comes down and doesn't help matter, reckoning all the women will be pleased to find a straight man in their midst. David tells his mother he's shut the newly fixed boiler off to save money. Kylie snarls that she's got to live with Gail for three days on her own and he shouldn't be so tight. No choice, David points out, not if they are going to be able to afford the house. The taxi sounds outside.

It's Karl who is waiting impatiently. He sees a surly looking Eva who's unhappy with her lot in life these days. He describes his dump of a bedsit. Across the road, Katy had made plans to see her mates but isn't sure she wants to go. Chesney offers to look after Joseph at dinnertime if she wants to go on her own. Back to Platt Towers, David says goodbye to Kylie and Max and reassures Kylie she has nothing to worry about. Karl chivvies them on so he can get going.

Jenna has moved in so Mandy has brought the rest of her things from Jenna's house too. Looks like there's a serious lack of storage space in Lloyd's flat! He nearly knocks a cardboard box over, a box kept closed with an elastic band and it turns out her tortoise Flash is in there. Lloyd remembers it and Mandy says he's nearly 15. (Wait, Lloyd hadn't seen Mandy in 28 or 29 years, how could he possibly remember she had it?) Mandy offers to have a clear out and either chuck it out or give some things to Emily for charity. Lloyd doesn't see the point in clearing any of his own things out, though.

Kylie has turned the boiler on and Gail is clean and shiny. A police officer arrives to tell them that Lewis was seen on CCTV withdrawing money in banks all over the country and is now in Belize, Central America, safe from an extradition order. Nothing they can do. Kylie's looking guilty again.

In the taxi office, Lloyd is telling Steve and Karl that he needs a hand shifting some of the stuff. The men prevaricate and make excuses. Steve tries to get out of it by snatching the airport run that's just come in but Lloyd gives it to Karl and Steve's the one.

Kirk, Beth and Eva come out of the factory. Kirk is wearing an overcoat and cravat that Gail recognizes as Lewis's. Apparently he left a lot of stuff in the flat. Eva suggests they flog the coat on ebay to make some money and Gail realizes that if there's money to be made, she should be making it. Finders Keepers is Beth's motto but Gail insinuates that they could be done for theft. (I think Beth is right on this one. He left it behind and skipped the country). Kirk feels guilty as expected and offers Gail the clothing back. He's also wearing Lewis' silk boxers but Gail declines to take them off his backside.

In the cafe, Ryan is telling his mother about a DJ gig he can get and could make a go at it if he could get a start up stipend. Michelle hesitates but agrees and Ryan promises to pay her back. Tim arrives to see Faye who is sitting there with Owen. He joins them and tells them that he has lost his job but has a line on another one in Kent. Faye is dismayed and asks him not to go. Tim says he may not have a choice.

In the pub, Beth is moaning that she'd already sold some of Lewis' things and has to back out now because of Gail. Eva apologizes for dropping her in it, sighing sadly and saying that Beth still has Kirk at least. She's really feeling sorry for herself today, isn't she? Stella comes into the bar and tries to cheer up Eva by complimenting her and assuring her that the man of her dreams is nigh. An older man comes in singing and serenading the women. He's a stranger but very shortly, someone familiar comes in behind him. It's Gloria! She's back and he's her fella, Eric. In fact, he's more than her fella, he's her fiance! (That was the airport run! Karl has followed them in with her bags.)

Kirk is bringing boxes of items in to Gail's. She's found a photo of Lewis and Audrey in one of them. He is about to give her the coat too but she lets him keep it. She picks up an envelope from a pocket of one of the items and it has her bank password written on it and compares it to the writing on the back of the photo. It is clearly different.

In the cafe, Katy's friends are chattering and sharing cuddles with Joseph. Chesney is there as well. Ryan comes in, talking on his phone, and the other girls notice as he asks Chesney if he can rent his van for some DJ gigs in the evenings. Chesney is interested in a deal but has to check on insurance. He checks it's ok to go with Ryan because he was meant to be minding the baby and they leave the girls behind to swoon over Ryan. Katy never thought of Ryan in that way before. I bet she will now.

In the salon, Michelle asks Audrey about how things are with Gail. Not great apparently. Speak of the devil, and in she walks as Michelle leaves. Gail asks for Audrey's help and shows him the paper with the bank details. She wants to confirm it's not Lewis' writing but Audrey is not inclined to be helpful. She thinks Gail is running around chasing shadows. Gail apologizes again and says it wasn't about hurting her. She regrets it terribly. Gail walks away and leaves Audrey looking like she has a few regrets of her own.

Stella is annoyed that her mother has come back without any notice and with a man. She's still annoyed with her mother who lets it roll off her shoulders. Her fella is having a drink with Karl about carpets and flooring, which is his line of business. Gloria joins him and formally introduces him to Eva and Stella. The three women go to the back for another chat.

Owen and Faye are in the Kabin and Faye is wheedling sweets out of him in addition to the magazine he's buying her. Norris has a speech on the soap box about parents spoiling children. Jason arrives to put a notice in the window to advertise for another builder. Faye takes note. You can see where this is coming. She nicks the card while Owen asks if he knows anything about employing someone. Respect, for a start, snipes Jason.

In the back, Stella disrespects her mother by insinuating she's too old to be engaged but Gloria remarks that nothing was said when Rita got engaged. Point, Gloria. Stella tries the tact that Gloria and Eric have only known each other five minutes. Eva asks about a ring and Gloria shows off a good sized rock. Stella doesn't think it's real. Oh it is, and Gloria says Eric's loaded.

Gail arrives at the Bistro but Nick is not there. Leanne is a bit short with her. Gail has a look at the reservation book to compare the hand writing and notices that the bank details with slashes over the zeroes is very similar to another example of writing in the book. Whose is that, she asks Leanne?

Steve and Lloyd are chucking stuff in the skip. Steve finds some item of interest and then declares that Lloyd shouldn't be letting Mandy run all over him. Lloyd isn't bothered, pick your battles he says. Steve moans, and is sent back for more. He goes inside and picks up a ratty looking box which looks quite familiar. It seems to be Flash's hibernation box. (Who uses a torn dirty box to keep a pet in? Why isn't it a nicer one with his name written on it?)

Kylie comes home with Max to find Gail waiting. Gail sends Max upstairs and approaches Kylie. She's in full sarcasm mode. She confronts her. Why did Kylie betray her? She knows the handwriting is Kylie's and wants to know why she helped Lewis and the explanation better be good as she's going to go to the police!

Kylie is desperately back-pedalling and trying to convince Gail she had nothing to do with handing over her bank account details to Lewis but there's no escaping the fact it was her hand-writing. Gail says all she wants is to know where Lewis is so Kylie swears she knows nothing. Gail tells Kylie she always knew she was poison but this is beyond the pale and she picks up the phone and dials the police. The only thing which finally persuades her to hang up is when Kylie begs her not to speak to them for David's sake. Gail tells her she's all ears ...

In Roy's Rolls, Faye's having tea with Owen when who should walk in but her Dad. Anna tells him he's early and she thought they'd agree he'd go to the house but Tim hasn't come to meet up with Faye; he's there to see a man about a job. As Owen looks on askance, a smug-looking Faye tells him that she gave her Dad Jason's number.

Back at Gail's a tearful Kylie is trying to explain why she helped Lewis to escape with £40,000 of her money without revealing her dirty secret. She tells Gail he was blackmailing her but Gail wants to know what hold he had over her. Gail dials the police for a second time before Kylie finally admits the truth: she slept with someone. The look of shock on Gail's face is so all-encompassing that it's hard to imagine what sort of face she would have pulled had Kylie actually admitted who it was she slept with.

Steve and Lloyd are in the pub where Mandy has bought them a drink to thank them for all their hard work moving her stuff. Talk between the men turns to Mandy's tortoise, Flash. The one she's had for years and years. The one that hibernates in a shoe box which was sitting on the kitchen table. The one, Steve realises, he inadvertently picked up with the rubbish. Steve doesn't look too bothered, he doesn't really see the point of having a tortoise as a pet, but Lloyd is horrified and rushes off to the dump on a mission to rescue Flash before Mandy finds out what's happened.

In the back room of the Rovers, Stella is discussing Gloria's new man. Gloria claims that Eric is her soul-mate but Stella reckons her mother's more interested in his chequebook. As if to prove a point, Eric comes in and Gloria asks him to go to the bar and buy her a bottle of bubbly. He chuckles and tells Stella that her mother likes spending his money.

Katy's had a fun evening with her friends but it's back to the realities of everyday life when Chesney comes home with the news that he's managed to buy some half-price mince. After Katy's friends leave with the promise that they'll see her on Friday, Chesney asks Katy if she's had a good time. "The best," she tells him wistfully.

In the cafe, Jason is offering Tim a job, starting tomorrow. He looks surprised when Tim reveals that he's Faye's Dad. As Jason goes to leave, Owen takes him on one side and tries to put him off hiring Tim, telling him he's bad news. But, as Jason points out, this is coming from the man who called him a traitor and nearly tried to ruin his business. It looks like Owen and Anna will have to get used to the idea of Tim staying around and they're not at all happy about it.

In the Bistro Leanne's not having a good evening. Kylie hasn't turned up for work and when she asks Nick about it he shows her a text from Kylie which simply says "can't talk". To add to Leanne's joy she has to serve Carla and Peter who have come in for a meal.

We return to Gail's where she's asking Kylie about the man she slept with and how Lewis got to find out. Kylie claims he was just some random guy and she can't remember any more than that. She says Lewis overheard when he called her at work and put two and two together. "And made forty thousand," quips Gail. Gail tells Kylie that as soon as David gets back she's going to tell him everything. She reckons that it will almost be worth losing £40,000 just to see David finally show Kylie the door.

In the Rovers Eric can't help noticing that Eva's down in the dumps and she can't help noticing when he deposits a very generous donation in the charity box. He tells her it's force of habit and hopes she doesn't think he's showing off. Eric comments that Eva doesn't quite fit Gloria's description of her bright-as-a-button granddaughter although he agrees on one point: she's a right Bobby-dazzler. Gloria comes out into the bar and is pleased to see that Eva and Eric seem to be getting on so well together and Eric confirms that Eva's a very charming young woman. Eric suggests that he should take the family out to dinner so that they can all get to know each other. Stella's not sure but Eric asks Sean if he can hold the fort in the Rovers, leaving her no reason not to accept his offer.

Fiz is at home with Chesney and Katy. She tells them that she hasn't heard from Tyrone. Ches reckons that's good news but Fiz is worried about him. She knows only too well what it's like being locked up and says he needs her. She changes the subject to ask Katy what her day was like. Katy says it was ace and tells Fiz she's been invited to her friend's 18th at the Bistro. Ches tells Katy they can't afford for her to have a night out and Fiz shoots a death stare in the direction of her brother.

Kylie finally arrives for work at the Bistro but goes straight through to the back for a private word with Nick much to the annoyance of Leanne. If only she knew what it was they need to discuss ...

Stella, Gloria and Eva are enjoying a drink prior to their evening out. Jason comes in and gives Stella a smoochy kiss, causing Gloria to stand there open-mouthed. She can't believe what's been going on in her absence, particularly since Stella had the cheek to go on to her about age gaps. Eric arrives and Stella does the introductions. He tells Jason that he's a very lucky young man and asks if he's like to join them. But Jason has some estimates to write up so Eric says it looks like he has all three lovely ladies to himself.

In the back office of the Bistro Kylie is filling in Nick on what happened with Gail. Considering the situation they've found themselves in is as much his fault as hers, Nick is unnecessarily sharp with her and Kylie retorts that who cares if his mummy thinks she's a slapper so long as her blue-eyed boy's in the clear. She apologises then tells Nick that Gail is threatening to tell David. She says Nick will have to go round to see Gail and try to stop her and make her see sense.

Out in the restaurant Eric and party have arrived for their dinner. He's pleased to meet Leanne which is more than can be said for the way Leanne feels about having to wait on her sister. Or half-sister as she's keen to point out to Eric. Leanne's mood drops even further when Nick and Kylie emerge from the back and he says that Gail's kicking off and they have to pop back home. Back at the table, sensing that there's an atmosphere between Leanne and Eva, Gloria asks what she's missed. Stella and Eva exchange glances.

Steve's sitting in the cab office when a dejected Lloyd comes in. His trip to the dump was unsuccessful and it looks as though Flash may have been crushed. Steve can't take it seriously and comes out with a series of corny tortoise-related jokes but Lloyd doesn't think it's at all funny and knows that Mandy will be devastated when she finds out.

Kylie turns up at Gail's to have a word with her. Gail can't understand why she's brought Nick with her. Kylie says she needed someone to talk to and Nick says he thinks Gail should hear her out. Gail tells Nick he needs to have a very good reason why he's sticking up for Kylie.

Back at the Bistro the family have been filling in Gloria on the Nick and Leanne wedding saga. Gloria thinks Eva shouldn't have gone sticking her oar in but Eric is quick to defend her. Leanne comes over to take their order and Gloria asks her straight out what it is she's been hearing about Leanne going to visit Peter on the morning of her wedding. Stella quickly steps in and says that whatever Leanne did, it didn't justify Eva's reaction. Eva says they should ask Leanne what she would have done if precious Carla hadn't turned up. Leanne leaves the table - she can't take any more - and Stella tells her mother not to get involved. Eric agrees and says Gloria should listen to her daughter. He says tonight's about the future and they should put the past behind them.

Back at Gail's she can't understand why Nick seems to be defending Kylie when she betrayed his brother. Nick tells Gail that Kylie was in a difficult place and Kylie agrees, saying her head were in bits. Gail asks where she's heard that before. She says ever since Kylie met David it's been one crisis after another. Kylie admits she's not perfect but then points out that neither is Gail's son. She says she wishes she could turn back the clock to Christmas day but she can't. And then we see Gail's expression change. She's obviously doing a quick bit of mental arithmetic. She works out that Kylie slept with another man eight weeks ago. And that means that the baby might not even be David's. "Ooh, Kylie," says Gail. "What have you done?"

We return to the Bistro where Gloria just can't let matters go. Unfortunately for all concerned, Peter and Carla are sitting at a nearby table so she marches herself across to have a word. She tells Peter that she's heard what he did to Leanne. The others come across to try and stop her but Gloria's on a roll. She calls Peter a lushy and tells him to stay away from Leanne. Carla ropes herself in on the act and it soon looks as though a cat fight is about to break out between her and Leanne. Eric tries to restore order and tells everyone to calm down. Peter deals with the situation by quickly paying for his meal and leaving with Carla in tow. Eric asks Gloria why she can't just leave things well alone; it looks as though he's wondering what he's got himself into with her. Gloria says she can't do right for doing wrong but Eric tells her to give it a rest and then turns to ask Eva if she's alright.

We return to Gail's where Kylie's still protesting that David is the baby's father. She claims they used protection. Nick tells Gail to give Kylie the benefit of the doubt but Gail says she doesn't have to give her anything because she's been lying all day. She wants to know why Kylie attempted to have an abortion. Nick steps in. He's getting angry now and says what's done is done. He asks if Gail is going to tell David - yes or no? "No," replies Gail, "Kylie is." Nick tries to protest but Gail says she doesn't want another word from him. She tells Kylie that she wants David to see her for what she really is and she wants him to hear it from her lips. Kylie shakes her head and tells Gail it's going to destroy them. "Exactly," says Gail.

Wednesday 20 February

It's breakfast time at the Platt's, and the atmosphere is frosty. Kylie asks for the chance to explain, but Gail is having none of it.

Faye is on her way to school and sees her dad working with Jason, loading up the van. She runs over, with Anna and Owen following behind. Tim says he'll buy her something to eat later, but Anna objects at first. Faye pleads, so she gives in.

Eric is tucking in to a cooked breakfast, made for him by Eva. Gloria is a little peeved that Eva didn't make her one, and as soon as Eric has downed the last mouthful she whisks him off to show him the sights, starting with the shopping centre!

Kylie is at work, and very tetchy. Leanne wants to know what her problem is, but Nick intervenes and sends Leanne off to the kitchen. When they're alone, Kylie tells Nick it's the end of her marriage, Gail won't listen to anybody.

In the cafe, Fiz has a word with Chesney. He tells her that Katy is still upset because they haven't got the money for her to go to Steph's party. Fiz sympathises with Katy, and points out that Chesney has the money to eat in the cafe. "You think I'm out of order, don't you?" he says. Fiz says she thinks they're lucky to have each other, and Katy is doing a brilliant job with Joseph, but she's young and she needs to let her hair down every now and again.

In the taxi office, Lloyd confesses to Steve that he still hasn't told Mandy about the fate of her tortoise. He blames Steve, and says he will have to help him get out of this mess.

Back in the bistro, Kylie isn't dealing well with a customer who complains about his food being cold, and ends up tipping his plate of food in his lap. Nick and Leanne rush over, and Kylie ends up quitting. She walks out, slipping a bottle of wine into her bag as she goes.

Gloria and Eric have returned after their shopping trip. He wants to go upstairs and rest, followed by a quiet night in. Gloria, however, has plans for a slap up meal at the bistro, and a trip to the casino.

Stella goes off for a break, leaving Gloria in charge, when Karl comes in. They talk about his situation, and he says he intends to put things right this time.

Kylie is at home, swigging wine from the bottle, when Gail comes in. She begs Gail not to tell David what she's done. She points out that if she tells him, it's over, all their dreams of being a family. "Well, maybe it was never meant to be," sniffs holier-than-thou Gail. "Maybe you're right!" cries Kylie and rushes out.

The next customer in the pub is Peter. Gloria serves him, grudgingly.

Kylie comes marching in, asking for a double vodka. Sylvia, Mary and Norris are sitting close by, and Norris questions whether Kylie should be drinking alcohol in her condition. Kylie, however, is in no mood to be criticised, and tells him to keep his beak out.

Faye is in the cafe with her dad. He tells her that if his job with Jason looks like becoming permanent he'll think about getting a place to live close by.

Fiz remarks to Anna that Faye and her dad seem to be getting on well. Anna thinks he's around a bit too much for her liking.

Leanne has come into the pub with Simon. Simon is going off for the evening with Peter, and she tells him to make sure he's home by 9pm.

Mary, Norris and Sylvia are watching Kylie. Mary wonders if they should say something, but Norris says it's not illegal to drink. Sylvia says it should be if you're in the family way.

Karl is still in the pub, Stella serves him and makes pleasant conversation. She then notices a drunk Kylie ordering another drink and tells her that's the last drink. Kylie mutters that she'll go somewhere else then. She goes off to sit down and Ryan joins her.

Tina goes into the taxi office. She's off to see a friend who has just split with a boyfriend because he kept lying to her about stupid stuff. Lloyd looks worried.

Steve comes in with a cardboard box, containing a resin tortoise he'd picked up from the garden centre. He seems to think that Mandy won't notice it's not her real one. Lloyd isn't impressed.

Ryan is trying to get to the bottom of Kylie's unhappiness. She's not saying anything though, except to ask for another drink. He goes off to get her a fruit juice.

Gloria takes Eric over to introduce him to Mary, Norris and Sylvia. Eric thinks that Sylvia and Norris are an item, and Mary is their daughter!

While Ryan is at the bar, Kylie downs his pint. Stella notices, and is furious, she orders Kylie out. Kylie, however, is rolling drunk by now and gets up onto the table. Eva comes in and sees what's happening and tells her to get down, Steve and Karl come over as well. Stella orders her down as well. "Make me!" slurs Kylie, and then, as Stella tries to grab her arm, she loses her balance and falls to the floor, writhing and groaning, in a lot of pain. Steve offers to take her to hospital.

Chesney comes home and hands Katy a wad of money so she can go to her friend's party on Friday. She hugs him.

Nick is over at Gail's, wondering where Kylie is. Gail is still being sniffy and spiteful, and then Nick spots the half empty bottle of wine under the table and recognizes it as coming from the bistro. Just then there's a hammering on the door but Gail won't go and answer it, in case it is Kylie. Exasperated, Nick goes to open it to find Stella there with the news about Kylie. He goes to get the car.

In the pub, Eric asks after Kylie. Mary thinks she has mental health issues, but Eva sticks up for her and says she's had a lot of problems. Eric notices Eva's broken nail. She tells him she broke it at the factory, he thinks her hands are too delicate and refined for manual labour.

Nick and Gail arrive to see Kylie. She's sore and ashamed of herself. "So you should be," snaps Gail. (Oooh, couldn't you just smack her?) Kylie tells them the hospital will do an ultra sound tomorrow to check on the baby. "Probably waiting for you to sober up," says Gail. Nick tells his mother that's not helping and asks if she couldn't show some compassion. Gail goes to wait outside. When she's outside, Kylie starts to cry, worried about the baby. Nick is tender and sweet and is sure she's going to be fine. He then leaves, telling her he'll see her in the morning. He goes outside to Gail. "Happy now?" he asks, curtly. Gail is still all self-righteous, and tells Nick that she's rung David's phone and left a message saying that Kylie fell and is in hospital. Nick tells Gail that she's just trying to cause more trouble for Kylie. "She won't need me for that when he finds out," says Gail, "which he will, one way or another!"

Friday 22 February

Welcome to another Friday. In this episode there is mainly sneering and Gail ranting - "slut . . . making a mockery . . . I won't have it . . . hypocrite . . ."

We open in the hospital where Kylie is asleep. David arrives and is distraught. Gail tells him Kylie had been drinking. She's not what he thinks she is and he should open his eyes. It's Kylie who opens hers. For someone who has spent part of the last 24 hours unconscious, she's thinking pretty quickly. She tells him that when he didn't return her calls she imagined the worst. Gail looks nauseous and leaves the room. Nick follows soon after, slumping against the wall in the corridor.

Gloria's browsing advertisements for diamond rings. Eva's annoyed that Eric's taking so long in the bathroom. Gloria retorts that Jason is worse and then with both Gloria and Stella going on about their boyfriends, Eva tells them to shut up. Gloria sneers that she's just jealous.

Faye won't listen to any encouraging words about her school play from Owen and Anna. Anna tells her she can't see Tim today.

"Hypocrite . . . little slut . . . David deserves to know . . . secrets always come out . . ." One think about Gail in a temper, she polishes harder. She's in the bistro ranting at Nick about Kylie. Nick tells her that if she tells David Kylie's secret, Kylie will take Max and the unborn baby away and David's life will be destroyed.

Stella drops some groceries in the street and Karl rushes to help her. He takes the opportunity to tell her he's sorry for everything. He just wants her to know he'll always be there for her if she needs him.

Jason and Tim load Brian's stuff into the van. Faye rushes over to see her dad and does listen to his encouraging words about the play. She asks if he'll help her learn her lines. She wants him to come and see her in the cafe later. Anna tells her to stop pestering him.

David's talking to Kylie when she suddenly gets a sharp pain in her belly. David runs from the room, screaming for a doctor. It seems they must have done away with the call button as part of the cuts to the NHS.

In the cafe, Katy's friend (whose name has not stayed in my brain) is having a bad birthday because the DJ has cancelled. Michelle overhears and tells her Ryan might be available. "Fit Ryan?" He's hired, apparently.

On her way out, Michelle stops to chat with Lloyd and Steve. Steve's advising Lloyd to tell Mandy everything. Just in time, Lloyd gets a text message from a pet shop - they've found a tortoise for him.

Back at the hospital a doctor, handily in theatre scrubs already, thinks Kylie has internal bleeding and needs immediate surgery.

Gloria is now browsing honeymoon hotels. Sunita comes in and Gloria sneers at her and is surprised when Stella serves her. When Eric asks who she is, Gloria says she's the local slapper. Eric challenges her over her attitude. He and Eva make a matching pair, slumped at the bar. Karl tells Eric that at this rate Gloria will bankrupt him. Jason suggests to Stella that they go out and Gloria sneers that an early-bird meal deal wouldn't suit her and Eric - they prefer fine dining.

In the bistro, Leanne has little sympathy for Kylie. She thinks David would be better off without her and so would Nick and the bistro. Gail comes in and tells them Kylie's taken a turn for the worse.

Eva's sitting moping in the back room and Eric goes to sit with her. He says he's astonished she's not been whisked away by some man. He does understand loneliness, he tells her. Eva says her father left her and she blamed herself and now whenever she meets a man she's just waiting for him to leave her. And they always do.

Steve and Lloyd admire the tortoise they've just acquired but are brought down to earth with a bump when Jenna comes in and laughs when they say it's Flash. Flash had a different shell colour.

Gloria's now sneering at Sunita to her face while Eric listens from his seat at the bar. Sunita tells him to ask Gloria about pretending to have a terminal illness.

Eva sits by Eric and apologises for moaning to him. Eric says he's flattered that she felt she could talk to him. He wishes he could think of something to cheer her up.

When Gail and Nick arrive at the hospital they find David sitting waiting to find out what's wrong.

Katy and her friend find Ryan and ask him about stepping in to DJ at the bistro tonight. Michelle comes along and looks pleased with herself for suggesting him.

Owen, Faye and Anna are in the bistro when Tim comes in. He's got another laptop for Faye. Owen tells him Faye can't accept it. Faye sneers that the only reason she needs another is because Owen smashed the other one. Anna overrules Owen and says Faye can keep it but she tells Tim not to get any more presents. Owen tells her quietly that Tim's just done this to make Owen look bad.

David's gone off to get some food and Gail begins to rant again. "How dare she! I can't stand this any more. I'm going to tell him the truth!" She says Kylie's making a mockery of David. Nick's so desperate to stop her that he tells her the truth. "It was me. I'm the man that Kylie slept with. And David can't find out. Not ever."

We are still in the hospital, and Gail looks as if she has been slapped round the face with a wet trout. (As she should be!) Nick is trying to make excuses, telling her it was a one off, they were both drunk, etc. etc. Gail gasps that the child Kylie is carrying could be Nick's. "Not necessarily, could be David's - probably is" says Nick. He goes on to tell her that she must see now that she cannot tell David. "I can't lie to him, not now" bleats Gail. Before Nick has a chance to argue, David comes back through the door, reporting that Kylie is still in theatre, and nobody will tell him anything. He is terribly upset at the thought she might have lost the baby. Gail for once does the right thing, and hugs him to her without saying a word.

In the Rovers, Gloria is busy picking out the most expensive honeymoon she can find in the brochure, and is quite oblivious to the fact that her groom-to-be is less than enthusiastic. Karl is there, and starts waxing lyrical about the last holiday he and Stella went on. Pushing her to remember what a great time they had in Tenerife. She only recalls the lack of sleep they got due to the noisy lovemaking neighbours, and is glad when Jason's phone call interrupts the trip down memory lane, but by Karl's face, he is not so pleased.

Gloria encourages Karl by telling him she is sure he will get Stella back in the end, saying that sooner or later Jason will dump her for someone half her age, and Karl will be there standing by to pick up the pieces. Eric is visibly shocked at how nasty Gloria can be, but she assures him she is only being realistic. She then goes back to picking out all the luxurious extras she can tag onto their holiday, and Eric has finally had enough, and opts to go for a walk, and turns down the offer of her company.

Tim and Faye are sitting together watching things on her computer, and having fun. Anna calls a halt, and suggests it's time Tim was heading back to work. Faye wants to know when she will see him next, and suggests tomorrow, but he tells her he has a football match to go to. Right away she invites herself along, and he probably would have taken her, but Anna says 'No'. She explains to Faye that it's all a bit much too soon. Tim backs off and tells Faye her mother is right, and that they would go another time. He kisses her goodbye, and the minute he is out the door, she scowls at Anna and heads off upstairs without a word.

Lloyd, Steve and Jenna are grouped around the new tortoise, and they are all agreed that this one will never pass for Flash. Steve comes up with the idea of painting it, as he has some green paint in the shed. Lloyd is all for it, but Jenna vetoes that idea immediately, pointing out that he is an animal, and it would be cruel to paint it. Steve argues that he lives in a shell, and to him, it would be just like giving his house a lick of paint. "Absolutely not!" says Jenna, and insists Lloyd comes clean and owns up to Mandy. She threatens that if he doesn't, she will tell her, then he will come across as a coward as well.

Kylie is out of theatre, and David is being told she had ruptured her spleen and was suffering from some internal bleeding, which they had caught early, so would be fine. He asks about the baby, and is told they won't know that until the baby is scanned, which can't be done until after Kylie regains consciousness.

David is blaming himself for going away and leaving her. Nick tells him to stop blaming himself, and you can see Gail is just dying to tell him exactly where the blame lies. She stops herself, but you can almost see the steam coming out of her ears.

In the factory, Tracy is doing some blatant flirting with Rob, which obviously irritates Eva, and they indulge in a little verbal sparring. In the office, Carla asks Rob which of the workforce he will be bedding next - Hayley? Julie? He just laughs and tells her he can't help it if women find him irresistible.

Katy's mates are killing time in the Bistro waiting for her to arrive by ogling the DJ, who is of course Ryan Connor. They are trying to decide which of them he will be going home with. Katy arrives, and the DJ's eyes light up. He comes over, and tells her how great she looks, and buys her a drink. Katy suddenly notices she has some of Joseph's dinner on her dress, but he assures her she still looks gorgeous.

Gloria is still wittering on about where to go for the honeymoon, and tries to ask Owen his opinion, however, he is extremely rude, and makes it clear he doesn't want to talk to her. Stella comes up from the cellar struggling to carry a crate of mixes. She complains that Gloria is not pulling her weight, Tina offers to help her with them, but Stella tells her she can't in her condition.

Gloria's ears prick up at this, so Tina gives her the whole condensed version, "Yes I am pregnant, it is not my baby, I am a surrogate for Gary and Izzy, yes they are paying me, Tommy couldn't deal with it, so that's why we split up, any more questions?" Gloria has just one. "Good for you. How much are they paying you?" Stella is aghast at the neck of the woman, but Gloria tells her that Tina is being very smart, using what God gave her to make herself a bundle of cash. Stella comes right back at her with "Well, you'd know about that wouldn't you?"

Gloria then insists on Stella explaining what she means, and Stella tells her she knows full well, that she is using what God gave her to use Eric as a cash cow. Gloria protests that Eric is her soul mate, and that he knows what a woman needs, which is to be lavished in luxury and made to feel like a princess. She goes on to tell Stella she is only jealous because her boyfriend couldn't buy her a kebab, let alone a diamond ring. Unbeknownst to either of them, Eric has been listening to the whole conversation from the doorway, and crestfallen, decides to go out again.

Back at the hospital, Nick is telling David that Leanne has picked up Max, and he can stay with them. David had forgotten about Max, and thanks his brother. Gail rushes out of the room, followed by Nick. She is boiling over again, and is all for telling David right this minute. Nick argues against it, telling her she will be responsible for splitting the family up. He points out that he will lose the love of his life, Kylie will take off with her grandchild and she will never see it, and David will go completely off the rails and end up either in prison or a mental institution. He angrily tells her it's her call.

We head into the break with Gail looking totally perplexed.

Gloria, still sitting on her backside and not lifting a finger is wondering why Eric has been gone so long. She then asks Eva to cover for her for the next couple of hours, which she doesn't want to do, as she has just got in from work. However, she manages to persuade her, and it turns out all she wants it for is to get her nails done.

Izzy and Gary join Owen, whose mood hasn't improved much since he first came in. He welcomes the opportunity to vent his frustrations, and tells them how upset he is over Faye's relationship with Tim. Izzy points out that he is her father after all, but Owen feels he is just someone who has turned up out of the blue, after walking out on her when she was two.

He is still livid about the laptop, and Izzy tells him he was probably just trying to make friends. Owen is not buying that though, and feels he is trying to worm his way into their family. He confesses to Izzy that he understands Tim is Faye's dad, but he wants to be her dad. Izzy asks him if he has told Faye that, and he replies that she already knows. Izzy questions that, saying she probably can't tell the difference between his sad face and his angry face - most people can't.

David is stroking his unconscious wife's hair, telling her how beautiful she is, and how he plans to treat her better, when Gail comes in. She starts to speak to him, and as he is waiting expectantly for her to say what she has to say, Kylie starts to moan a little. She is coming round right on cue. Marcus comes in, as he happens to be passing, and he is followed by the doctor. Kylie's first thought is for her baby, and they assure her they will do the scan right away. Gail stands stony faced in the background, silent for the time being.

In the Rovers, Mandy is accusing Lloyd of trying to get her drunk. She can tell he is upset about something, and presses him to tell her. He finally starts to tell her about Flash, but Lloyd being Lloyd beats around the bush so widely, that it just comes across that he cares deeply for the little fellow, not that he has gone to meet his maker. Mandy is touched that he loves Flash, her oldest friend from childhood almost as much as she does, and loves him for it. Think he can tell her now? Not a chance!

Marcus is now doing the Ultrasound on Kylie, who is crying with fear that the baby will be damaged. There is tension while Marcus runs the wand over her stomach, then he smiles and points to the little one's healthy heart beat. Kylie sobs with utter relief.

Ryan is trying to persuade Katy to have another drink, but she feels she has had enough and orders a coke. Her friends want to go on to an after party, and Ryan is all for it, but Katy declines, saying she has to be home by eleven. One of her friends asks if Chesney is her mother? Ryan allows himself to be led away to dance by one of the other girls, leaving Katy looking a little jealous.

Eva is sitting alone in the back room watching television, and Eric comes in the back door. She points out that her Gran is in the bar, to which he replies he is fully aware of that, which is why he came in the back door. He then hands her a box, saying it is a gift for her. Opening it, she is overwhelmed to see the beautiful necklace inside. She questions why he is buying it for her, and is told that she undervalues herself so much, he wanted to show her what she was really worth.

Eva tells Eric she is really touched, but can't accept it, being engaged to her Gran. He tells her that all Gloria is interested in is his money, and while he concedes he knew that all along, and that she is a stimulating woman, he doesn't love her, and is going to call off the wedding. He goes on to say that he wants to spend the rest of his days with someone he has a connection with - someone like her.

Izzy, Gary and Owen arrive back at No. 6, and Faye can't wait to show the two younger ones her new laptop. Owen hands her a new game to play on it, and looking at it with disdain, she tells him it is for kids. Izzy sharply tells her that Owen bought her a gift, and she should be more gracious. She also complains to them about being told she couldn't go to the match with Tim, and Owen suggests he gets tickets and they could all go as a family. Faye shouts that she doesn't want to go with them, that they are not her real family, Tim is. Then, telling Owen to stick his stupid game, she runs upstairs.

Izzy tells Owen he should go up and talk to Faye, but Anna stops him, saying he will just make matters worse. Izzy is angry that Faye is being allowed to get away with it, and tells Anna that Owen needs her support. She counters that he does have her support. Izzy tells her he doesn't have enough of it, that she allows that girl to treat him like dirt.

David is now in the waiting room reporting to his mother and brother that the baby looks fine and healthy. His voice is shaking as he tells them it has been the worst 24 hours of his life, and is now so relieved that his baby is OK. Gail hugs him, but gives a meaningful look at Nick over his shoulder.

Eva is indignant that Eric would think she was some kind of gold digger, and would run off with someone three times her age just because he is loaded. He protests that he doesn't think that of her at all. He assures her he is not asking her to marry him, indeed he doesn't want that kind of relationship at all, he just wants her to travel with him as his companion - as his friend. Eva is suspicious, and asks what he gets out of the arrangement, and he assures her again that all he wants is her company. She tells him that isn't what most men want from her, and he replies that most men in that case are idiots.

He goes on to tell her that she is a beautiful funny woman who is totally wasted around there. He wants to show her the world, and give her the kind of life she deserves. Eva is flattered, and tells him it is the nicest thing anyone has ever said to her. However, she still has huge reservations, because of his relationship with her Gran. He assures her he is calling off the engagement anyway, so will either be travelling alone, or with her, and asks her to think about what she has to lose by taking him up on his offer.

David is taking his leave of Kylie. He is off to pick up Max and bring him back for a visit. Now the poor girl is left with Nick and Gail, who still has a face on her that could make mountains tremble. Nick explains that he had to tell her everything to prevent her from telling David. She asks if she is still going to tell David, and after a pregnant (excuse the pun) pause, she tells them she is not. Kylie thanks her profusely, but she tells her she is not doing it for her, or Nick, whom she instructs not to call her Mum at the moment, as she is not ready for that. Kylie tries to explain, but Gail cuts her off, saying she doesn't want to hear about it. She tells them the only reason she is keeping quiet is for David, and if either of them ever hurt him again, she will expose them for the hypocrites they are. "Is that understood?" says the lady with the fluttering lashes. Kylie tearfully nods, and Gail turns her back on them and sails out, saying she doesn't want to look at either of them any more.

(I think someone needs to remind Gail about Ian Latimer - and the fact that when she was pregnant with Sarah, she didn't know if she was his or her husband's! - Mrs. Pot, I think there is a black kettle with your name on it!)

Written by Jonathan Harvey Directed by Graeme Harper

Kylie's coming home today. Max and David are excited. Gail is in full sarcsasm mode. Audrey is taking Max to school and David to hospital to bring Kylie home. Max has drawn a lovely picture. Gail tells Audrey she has run out of tolerance for Kylie. Audrey tries to impress on Gail that their flesh and blood is coming into the world. Gail can't deny that. Audrey knows Kylie has made lots of mistakes but they have to help Kylie through it. Gail just scowls.

Gloria has made a big breakfast for everyone. Jason is off to Leeds on a job for a week. He and Stella are cooking and Gloria is feeling romantic about Eric who isn't really enjoying it. Neither is Eva who's looking for the piggin' sick bucket! Gloria announces that they're booking an around the world cruise for their honeymoon. Cue some mild sarcasm from the groom-to-be. Jason gets himself out the door with Stella to see him off. Gloria is also off to spruce up, leaving Eva and Eric to discuss his offer. Eva closes the door and is upset because she thinks her gran loves him. He thinks it's all just words and he'd rather go around the world with her. She doesn't know what to think aside from having to get to work.

Outside, Stella is getting her goodbye kiss just as Tracy comes out to go to work. Owen, Anna and Faye are heading down the road. Faye spies Tim over by Jason and runs across the road to talk to him, asking if they can talk online that night. (Does he take his laptop with him then? I know i would!) Tim checks with Anna that it's ok and, put on the spot, she agrees as long as homework is done.

Audrey and David arrive at the hospital, complete with Max's picture. Kylie is really feeling guilty. Audrey says they need to forget the past and look to the future. David mentions that Gail was in a funny mood. Kylie reckons Gail is just worried about David and as a mother, that's her job. She also muses that going out with her is cause for any mother to worry. She looks scared to death to go home.

Tracy is bragging to Beth about her fabulous date with Rob. Rovers, Chinatown, Is that the near-second best date you've ever had Tracy? Really? Well, when you consider the likes of Steve McDonald and Charlie Stubbs, I suppose that is pretty damn good for her track record. Beth tries to bring Eva into the conversation but she's quiet and seething more and more hearing Tracy go on about her date and about Stella and Jason. They start trading jibes with Tracy digging at Eva for not being married. Eva gets in a particularly good shot but Tracy fires one back and the next thing you know the women are shouting. Rob comes out and due to Tracy's snide remarks, Eva comes out looking the worst for the argument and gets a scolding. Tracy gets off scot free.

In the Bistro, Gail strides down the warpath. She makes excuses to Leanne about wanting to avoid Kylie but she and Nick know the truth. Gail doesn't know how she's going to cope. Nick begs her to keep quiet. Gail is in an impossible situation. Nick points out that it would kill David. Gail says it's killing her and Nick thinks it will get better. Not sure about that.

In Streetcars, Lloyd is dealing with a difficult customer on the switch. He then tells Steve that Mandy wants to throw a "wake up" party for Flash tonight. Uh oh. Seems he hasn't told Mandy the truth yet.

Back to the factory, Eva is moping into the kitchen. She asks Beth where in the world she'd love to be. Beth reckons she's been everywhere and proceeds to list most of the countries in the Balkan region, thanks to a mate who had a boyfriend who worked for an airline traveling there. Tracy starts in again, digging at Eva not having a life. Eva gives Tracy a mild little shove and Tracy makes it look like a huge push. Tracy whines to Rob who wants to take Eva in for a talk. She refuses to go, offended that Tracy will yet again get off without even a warning and quits her job.

Kylie arrives home with Audrey and David. Gail is not to be found. Kylie is wiped out and sits on the sofa. Audrey gives David time off work and goes to make a cuppa. David pledges his devotion and tells her it's all going to be all right.

Owen is in the cafe and suggests they take a family vacation. Anna can see he's trying to compete with Tim for Faye's attention. Ryan notices Katy having "stodge" to settle her hangover and sits with her. Chesney comes in as well. He asks Katy if she's got a fiver and she reluctantly admits she spent the whole 50 pounds he'd given her to go out last night. He's shocked and she says she was conservative. Ryan backs her up. Chesney forgoes the sandwich he'd ordered and heads back to the market to make money to keep her in nights out.

Eva storms into the pub, hollering about Tracy being vile. Eric offers her a brandy which she accepts. Stella disapproves that Eva has quit her job. Eva offers to work at the pub but Stella says they're fully staffed so there's no job for her. Gloria scolds her for not being dedicated to keeping herself in work. It might sound like Eva's being childish about Tracy picking on her but we know the hell Tracy can put you through. Eric is kind but Gloria gives no quarter, leading Eva to tell her Gran a few truths, like, she's always sitting on her backside and planning where to put it next.

David pops into the Bistro and finds Gail having lunch. David's planning to make a family tea tonight. Audrey's coming and Nick thinks it's a good idea. Leanne manages to get out of it by saying one of them needs to stay at work. Gail moans. Nick reassures her.

Lloyd is trying out his apologies for Mandy on Steve who isn't happy when it seems Lloyd is going to blame him for the whole debacle. Lloyd points out it was his fault! Lloyd doesn't know how he's going to explain to Mandy. He tries again with Steve playing up to him as if he were Mandy. It's quite funny. Michelle thinks so too when she catches them at it though she doesn't know what it's about. But she soon finds out Lloyd hasn't told Mandy the truth.

Eric is watching telly when Eva comes downstairs. He apologizes for Gloria's rudeness. Eva reckons she probably had a point. Eric re-gives her the lovely necklace but she's reluctant. He says he'll be offended so she lets him put it round her neck. She says she's tempted to take him up on her offer but doesn't think she can go.

Gail and Nick head home. Kylie is snoozing on the sofa but says hi when Nick greets her. Nick makes small talk. Gail snorts.

Eva and Eric discuss further the offer. She says it will look like she's using her grandmother. Stella comes in and notices the necklace. Eva isn't inclined to tell her where it came from. Stella comes out on Gloria's side and tells Eva she needs to get her act together. Eva declares Gloria's just a hypocrite causing St. Ella to defend her mother, yes, the mother she usually criticizes. Eva snaps that Eric has asked her to go away with him instead of Gloria.

Across the road, Nick offers Gail a G&T. Gail snaps that Kylie isn't having one. Kylie says she didn't want one. Nick tries hard to keep things diffused but you can see Gail's building up a head of steam. Gail asks Kylie if she can really play happy families. She starts to rant about it all, wondering if Kylie can sleep at night and is hollering as David comes in with Max, just in time. David has heard the shouting, though, and sends Max upstairs. Gail decides it's time David knows that she's the only one that cares about him. She screams at Kylie that she should have got rid of the child when she had the chance if she truly cared about David. David is horrified. What the hell does she mean by that! Gail takes a deep breath and glares at Kylie. Are you going to tell him or shall I?

A tear-stained Kylie lies on the sofa while Gail goes off on one. She claims she doesn't want to hurt David then proceeds to tell him that Kylie doesn't want the baby. He's understandably furious and wants to know why on earth Gail should think that. All Kylie can do is to say that Gail's entitled to her opinion and she tries to make out that she's just scared. Gail looks at Kylie and says she's not scared, she's just unstable (pots and kettles spring to mind). David shouts at his mother not to speak to Kylie like that, just as Audrey arrives and takes in the scene of domestic turmoil. Nick tries to calm things down by offering his gran a drink, David tells Gail to apologise to Kylie, she refuses, Kylie says she doesn't need to. Gail tells David that one day he'll realise she's the one person in the family who really cares about him and he responds by telling her to get out. Gail is stunned but David means it. It's his house, his mother won't apologise and, as far as he's concerned, she's off her head. Gail is speechless with shock. She puts on her coat and leaves.

There are more family rows going on at the Rovers where Stella can't believe Eva's planning on going away with Eric. Eva can't see anything wrong with it. She says at least she's prepared to listen to Eric whereas her grandmother is only after his wallet. Eric confirms that Gloria's just one in a long line of women with the same attitude. He claims that the whole thing would be above board but Stella wants to know when Eva was planning on telling Gloria. Eric says Eva hasn't agreed to go yet and he'll deal with Gloria. Stella tells him he's horrible which makes Eva's mind up for her - she says she's going. But Stella hasn't finished with her yet and sends Eric off to the bar so she can talk some sense into her daughter.

Eric goes out into the bar. Worried by his demeanour, Mandy gets him a brandy. Sylvia is upset when he sits himself at the table she was about to occupy with her friends but Mary doesn't seem at all bothered: Eric puts her in mind of an octogenarian Mr. Darcy.

At another table, Michelle is telling Lloyd he needs to come clean with Mandy about killing her tortoise. She asks what it is about men that stops them telling the truth and says women appreciate a bit of honesty. If Lloyd won't tell Mandy she threatens to do it herself.

Eric is trying to drown his sorrows in his brandy and his spirits sink still further when Sylvia plonks herself down and says she hears he'd going on a cruise. She gives a monologue on the delights of life at sea, finishing with her tip of the day: he should pack a pair of baggy slacks to allow for all the food he's going to eat.

In the sitting room at the back, Stella is trying to explain to her daughter exactly what's wrong with an 80 year old man going away on holiday with a 25 year old girl. Eva sees it as a chance to escape all that's wrong with her life right now, including the fact that she's been cheated on by men more times than she's had her nails done. Stella tells Eva that there are plenty of decent blokes round here and Eva brings up the fact that they're only "round here" so Stella can be close to Leanne and she tells her Mum that she's always going to play second fiddle to her.

Katy goes into the kebab shop to see Ryan and apologise for the way Chesney reacted over her night out. Ryan says he thought he was a bit out of order but says if Katy got herself a job and earned her own money he'd have nothing to complain about. But where could Katy possibly get a job which would fit in with having a young baby to look after? Why, in the kebab shop alongside Ryan, of course! And would you know it? Dev just happens to be advertising for someone right now.

Out in the street, Gail has still lost the power of speech. She is sitting on a bench looking as though she's sucking on a lemon which has been soaking all night in vinegar.

Back at the Rovers, Stella seems to be getting through to Eva. She apologises for taking her to Weatherfield to get close to Leanne but says that she needed to make up for abandoning Leanne when she was small. She tells Eva that she should never think that she loves her any less and that she'll always be her baby girl. She adds that if she wants to go travelling that she should go but on her own terms but not with a cock-eyed opportunist who's going to be looking down her cleavage morning, noon and night. Stella even offers to help her out with some money provided she doesn't go with Eric. Eva takes off the necklace with Eric gave her and Stella gives her a hug.

Owen and Anna are walking Faye home from school. Owen suggests going out for their tea but Faye's not keen; she claims she needs to get home to practise her lyrics for the school production. Sally walks past and then spots Gail sitting on the bench. She stops to ask what's wrong. Gail tells her she's been chucked out by David and says that if he knew what she knew it wouldn't her that was being chucked out. Sally offers to take her home and open a bottle of wine.

Back at home David is furious. Nick and Audrey are trying to calm him down but David won't have his mother speaking about Kylie like she's something she trod on in the street. Kylie tries to protest that she's no saint but David won't have it and can't understand why everyone seems to be defending Gail. Kylie just wants everyone to stop arguing and reminds David that Gail is his mum and says she knows more than most that you don't get many of them.

Meanwhile, Gail is trying to bring herself to tell Sally what's happened but can't find the words. But with the help of a large glass of Pinot Grigio she finally admits that Kylie's baby might not be David's and, worse still, it could be Nick's. Now it's Sally's turn to be lost for words.

In the Rovers Lloyd's still trying to have a quiet word with Mandy but then Stella and Eva come through from the back. Just as Gloria comes down the stairs we hear Eva let out a scream. Everyone turns to see what the commotion is about. Eva is standing in front of Eric with a look of shock on her face. "I think he's dead!" she announces.

Eric's demise has set off a discussion in the Rovers about the subject of death. We learn that Mary once had a Saturday job in a funeral parlour and that Sylvia's father died while picking runner beans. But with Dr. Carter still examining the body Stella is keen to clear the pub. Gloria gets to work on her wailing widow routine.

Gail is still talking to Sally and tells her how close she came to spilling the beans to David and that it was only Nick's pleading which stopped her. Having confirmed that it was only a one night stand, Sally points out to Gail how many people will get hurt if she tells the truth. She adds that the biggest person who'll get hurt is Gail herself. She says if she keeps the secret she'll keep her family. Sally suggests Gail should stay with her while she decides what she's going to do.

Dev has his stop-watch out. He's timing Katy while she demonstrates her prowess at making a kebab while Ryan stands by with a grin on his face. Dev's worried whether she'll be able to fit in the shifts between looking after the baby but after a bit of enthusiastic convincing from both Ryan and Katy, Dev tells them he'll leave them to sort out the rota between them.

Faye is Skyping with her Dad but the call has been going on for too long and, with Owen's support, Anna tells Faye it's time to do her homework. Tim is ready to comply but when Faye tries to tell him just one more thing, Anna's had enough. She slams the laptop shut mid-sentence, sending Faye stomping up the stairs in yet another strop.

David's cooked tea for Nick, Audrey, Kylie and Max and it's quite a happy family scene until Gail walks in. David tries to wave the white flag and tells her she doesn't need to leave but Gail thinks it's for the best. She says they're always at each other's throats which is not what the family needs right now and then goes upstairs to collect some things. Nick sits at the table with a pained expression on his face.

Stella and Gloria are clearing up glasses when there's a banging on the door of the Rovers. It's Karl who's heard the news about Eric. He puts a comforting arm around a sobbing Gloria and leads her through to the back but Eva isn't the least bit sympathetic about her Grandmother's crocodile tears. Stella tells Eva to let her grieve and suggests they should have a fresh start with each other.

Katy and Chesney have just come home. She's been telling him about her new job but he doesn't seem that happy about it. Katy says she can't do right for doing wrong as Chesney doesn't want her spending his money either.

As a crying Gail leaves with her bag of clothes David tries one last time to stop her going. He thinks she's patronising him when she tells him that one day he'll understand and then looks thoroughly confused when Gail adds that it's because she respects him that she's leaving. Gail gives David a hug and then glances up to see Kylie watching her from the bedroom window.

Mandy and Lloyd are eating a takeaway on the bench in the street. When Mandy mentions poor Eric it gives Lloyd the opening he needs to tell her that he wasn't the only one to shuffle off this mortal coil. As Mandy stares at him in disbelief, Lloyd comes out with the news that Flash has died. He tells her that the vet cremated him so Mandy asks what he's done with the ashes. Lloyd quickly replies that he's picking them up tomorrow.

Gail returns to Sally with her belongings. She's in despair and, as Sally takes her in her arms, Gail confesses to her friend that she can't bear it.

Wednesday 27 February

Breakfast time at Sally's. Sophie comes down and is shocked to see Gail sitting at the breakfast table. Sally exlains that Gail is going to be staying with them for a while. When Gail goes off for a shower, Sophie wants to know what has happened. Sally tells her there's been a falling out with David. Sophie points out that David and Gail are always falling out, so what's different this time to make her want to live with them? She thinks her mother should have persuaded Gail to go back home, then their problems would have probably been sorted out.

At Fiz's house, Chesney wants to know why Tryone has suddenly changed his mind about seeing Fiz. She doesn't know, but is glad he wants to see her. She goes off to work in the cafe. Katy reminds Chesney that later, at 5pm, she's starting her job at the kebab shop.

In the back room of the pub, Gloria is writing a death notice for the local paper. She tells Stella that she's put that Eric leaves a 'broken hearted fiancee, a wife in all but name.' Eva comes in and hears this and is very scathing, she says that's all about Gloria hoping he's left her something. Indignant, Gloria protests that the thought never crossed her mind. When she goes out to ring the paper, Stella remarks to Eva that she seems genuinely upset. Eva says she would be if she knew the truth. Stella warns her that Gloria must never find out.

Mandy and Jenna are outside the taxi office when Lloyd comes along. Mandy tells him that later they are going to take Flash's run to the tip. As Mandy walks away, Lloyd tells Jenna that he still hasn't told Mandy what really happened to the tortoise. Jenna is cross, and tells him that Mandy thinks Lloyd will be picking up Flash's ashes from the vet.

Katy walks past the kebab shop with the baby buggy. Ryan comes to the door and they chat for a few minutes about what she'll be doing later.

Eva tells Stella that Rob has said she can start back at the factory tomorrow. Then she tells her mother that Gloria has been going through Eric's things. Stella tells her she just wanted his address book. Just then they hear Gloria on the phone, she's ringing Eric's solicitor. Eva rushes over and stands at her gran's elbow, aghast at what she's hearing. Gloria explains that she's Eric's fiancee, has he ever mentioned her? ("And why would he? To his solicitor?" mutters Eva). Gloria asks if Eric made a new will recently, because she knows he wished to provide for her!

Sophie goes to see David and Kylie. She tells them that she feels that Gail would like to come home but doesn't want to lose face, so she wondered if they would call round and invite her back. David says he will, and will go over at lunch time.

Fiz is leaving the cafe, off to see Tyrone. Anna asks her to give him her best wishes, adding that she doesn't wish him any harm no matter what he might have done. "He hasn't done anything," snaps Fiz, "except been beaten black and blue by that mad woman."

Katy is in the cafe with Izzy, explaining about her new job, it's not just the money, it's something Izzy's got, it's a job that's hers and gets her out of the house for a bit. Izzy smiles at baby Joseph and says that she wants what Katy has got.

Karl is in the pub when Gloria comes out and says she''s off to the undertakers to organise the funeral. Karl offers to take her there and she accepts, saying that's kind of him. "Am I supposed to be impressed?" says Stella. Karl says he's just trying to help, he's a reformed character now.

David calls at Sally's to speak to Gail. He asks his mother if it isn't all a bit daft, her living there when her house is next door but one. Gail says that it isn't her house any more, and she's living there now, thanks to Sally's generosity. Sophie and Sally both look uncomfortable when they hear this. Gail goes on to say that there are reasons that she can't go back, but she doesn't want to talk about it now. David then gives up and leaves. "Poor David," mutters Gail, when he's gone. Sophie can't keep quiet. "If it's poor David, why don't you just go home?" she asks, and when Sally protests, she tells her she doesn't understand, and gets up and goes out.

Fiz sits down opposite Tyrone. He tells her they've given him a date for the trial, March 25th. They'll find him guilty and he'll be locked up for real. He tells her to stop calling the prison, stop writing letters, he doesn't want her putting her life on hold for him. She must forget all about him.

David is telling Kylie about his visit to see Gail, and how she refused to come home. Kylie thinks she probably needs a bit of time. David is surprised that Kylie can forgive her, after all the awful things she said.

Fiz tells Tyrone she's sure he will be found not guilty, and anyway, she's not going to stop writing and calling, she'll be waiting for him whether he likes it or not.

Gloria and Karl arrive back at the Rovers. Apparently they've arranged for a top of the range coffin with a silk lining and all the trimmings. As Gloria goes through to the back, Eva asks who's paying for it all.

Izzy has called with a 'good luck' card for Katy, who is all ready for work in her new uniform. When she has gone, Fiz asks Izzy if the girls in the factory are on Tyrone's side or Kirsty's. Izzy says they're all on Kirsty's side. "That's what I thought," says Fiz.

Mandy and Jenna go into the Rovers carrying a large cardboard box. Inside is Flash, the supposedly dead tortoise. He'd been found at the tip! Mandy is furious with Lloyd for lying to her.

Eva comes out from the back and tells her mum that Gloria is now looking at urns on the internet, she wants to get a matching pair so that she and Eric can be side by side on the mantlepiece. "Not on my mantlepiece!" says Stella.

Katy is hard at work in the kebab shop, learning the ropes by serving Sophie. When she's gone, Ryan and Sophie smile at each other. He tells her they're making a great team.

Karl comes into the pub as Gloria comes out from the back holding up the newspaper. (That was quick work!) The death notice is in, top of the page in a large box.

Mandy and Jenna are sitting down in a corner, when Lloyd comes in. Mandy hastily hides the box with Flash in it, and he goes over to asks if they want more drinks. When he goes off to get them, Mandy tells Jenna she's not going to tell Lloyd about finding Flash yet, but would like to put him somewhere there's a bit of grass. Jenna reckons she knows just the place, and takes him away.

Over at the bar, Karl is telling Stella he's changed, and asks if there's a chance for them. She reminds him that she's with Jason. "For now, yes," he says, "but we can still be friends can't we?" "Maybe," she says, "but don't expect too much too soon." He tells her not to worry, good things are worth waiting for. She tells him he's pushing it already.

Mandy asks Lloyd if he went to the vet to collect Flash's ashes. He lies that he did. She tells him she thinks they should hold a little service for him, say a few words, perhaps a little music while they scatter the ashes. Lloyd looks aghast, but agrees.

Katy and Ryan are cleaning up in the kebab shop. He tells her she's done well, and they look into each other's eyes for a moment. The next thing they're kissing - until she breaks away and heads for the door. "You will be back tomorrow?" he asks as she rushes out. She doesn't answer.

Jenna has taken the tortoise to Sophie's house and asks if it can live in their back garden. Sophie asks Sally not to tell anyone it is there.

Gail and Sally are on the sofa, Gail is asking if she should tell David the truth. "No!" says Sally. Gail wonders what will happen if David ever finds out, and finds out that she knew and didn't tell him. "Or what," says Sally, "which is much more likely, if he never finds out, the baby is born and he brings it up as his own, and everyone is happy?" Gail asks if she thinks that's possible. "Yes," says Sally, "and you have to think that too."

Katy arrives home and tells Chesney she's tired and is going up to bed. He asks what it's like working with Ryan. She tells him he's ok, but they were busy and didn't really get time to talk. Chesney thinks Ryan seems to be a bit full of himself and asks if he's ok with her. Katy says he is and hurries off upstairs.
