Wednesday 1 October

My apology for the delay!

Streetcars, and Karen drops in to see Steve, who's on the 'switch'. Apologies are proffered and accepted, for the hurtful things they both said last night. Karen thinks that they should call off the divorce, which is due to be rubber-stamped today.

The Harris house, and a grumpy Tommy tells Craig, just as he leaves for school, that he hasn't to speak to Katy; she's no longer part of the family. Craig doesn't understand quite what's going on, especially when his Mum tells him to ignore his Dad. After Craig leaves, Angela makes it clear to Tommy that Katy is still her daughter, and Craig's sister, and what Tommy is doing is stupid and won't change a thing.

Back in Streetcars, Karen admits that seeing Steve chatting up Sonia last night in the Rovers was too much for her. She goes on to say that she no longer wants a big fancy wedding - all she wants is to continue to be Mrs MacDonald. Steve refuses to call his solicitor; it'll be too late. Karen is going to get what she wanted - a divorce.

Martin's flat, and Katy is ready to go to school. She tells Martin that it's her Dad who's got a problem, not them and, just before she leaves, she asks Martin for her dinner money. Martin hands her £5.

In the factory, Karen asks Nick if she can use the phone - it's urgent. She phones the court to ask if they can stop the divorce. Angela tells Hayley about Katy's moving in with Martin, and Hayley looks depressed at the news. Karen begs some time off from Nick. She has to get to the court before twelve o'clock, in order to stop the divorce papers from being stamped. Nick reluctantly agrees, and Karen rushes off.

In the Kabin, Martin collects his Nursing Times, and Norris wonders if he should put Katy's magazine, Cosmopolitan, on his bill now. Yes. Of course, Norris is not prying. Martin decides that "That's the world told".

Karen arrives, breathless, at the court, but has to go through a security check, whose sensor keeps going off. Eventually, it's her belly-button ring which is the culprit, and she's allowed through.

In the Rovers, Fred is talking to Bev about a trip to Scotland with fellow butchers, but he can't go and leave Shelley in charge; it wouldn't be fair. Gail chats to Eileen, and asks her how she got on with baby-sitting Bethany; both women are puzzled when Eileen says that she didn't baby-sit. Who did?

The court, and Karen eventually gets to talk to someone about canceling divorce. The minutes tick past and Karen waits...

In the cafŽ, Sarah happily tells her Mum that it was Mrs Fearns who baby-sat Bethany. Brenda is a great support and help, unlike Gail, who's now no part of Bethany's life.

Back at court, and Karen learns that the papers have been stamped; she's now no longer married.

In Streetcars, Karen arrives, in a bad mood, and throws the stamped divorce papers on the desk in front of Steve, shouting that he's got what he wanted - to be single again. Karen storms out.

The Rovers again, and Fred is imagining the delights of the trip to Scotland, although of course, he can't go. Shelley tells him that she can do the work of ten men, and he is free to go on the trip. Bev will help out.

Karen, still depressed, tells Janice about her divorce, but Janice doesn't believe that Steve is pleased to be single again.

Craig plays football in the street as his Dad comes up to apologize for shouting at him this morning. Tommy offers fish and chips as a peace offering. Tommy joins his son for a kick about for a few moments, before going to the chip shop... ... just as David arrives to join his pal for a game of football. Craig doesn't want to speak to David at first, but the pair soon make up their friendship again.

In Streetcars, Karen overhears Steve talking on the phone to someone, arranging to meet them in some new bar down by the canal, tonight. Steve pretends that it was a new driver, but Steve called them 'babe'. Karen knows that Steve is up to something.

Martin arrives and tries to join in the kick about with Craig and David, but David completely ignores his Dad, who walks silently off.

In the Rovers, Karen tells Janice about the phone call that Steve was making, and she's going to find out what's going on.

Karen arrives at the canal-side, in the dark, only to hear Steve's voice inviting her to join him. Steve is aboard a narrow boat, and he invites her on board.

Katy is busy with her homework in Martin's flat, and he tells her of David's having ignored him this afternoon. Katy thinks that everyone will come round, eventually. Martin shows Katy his 'house kitty' - which contains £50 - so there will be no need for her to ask him for money any more.

On board 'Rosemary', the narrow boat, Karen sits silently, and she's very cold. Steve drapes a blanket over her shoulders. Karen wonders if he's bought the boat. No. Steve produces two glasses of champagne and hands one to Karen, just to 'set the mood'. He admits he was only winding her up about wishing to be single again. However, if he were still married, he couldn't do this, he says, and promptly gets down on one knee, hands Karen a box with an engagement ring inside, and asks Karen to marry him. She smiles, tearfully, accepts his proposal and they kiss.

Friday 3 October

The recently divorced MacDonalds' flat, and Karen still loves her ring; she can't wait till the girls see it. Steve wonders if they'll not be a tad suspicious about an engagement immediately after a divorce. However, Karen thinks it would be a grand idea to have an engagement party - why not tonight?

The Corner Shop, and Dev phones his solicitor (Maya) with whom he's become besotted: she's off on holiday, but he'll call again. A grinning Ciaran appears, and suggests a night out to Sunita, who's looking forward to getting away from the confines of the Rovers for a time with her boyfriend. A meal, then a film, perhaps? Ciaran goes off to work, after a quick snog. Dev smiles that smug smile of his, and considers it a sweet scene he's just witnessed - Sunita is going to have a night without leaning on the bar of the Rovers!

Karen and Steve arrive in the Kabin and, Bev being there, they book the Rovers for an engagement party tonight; a private party, so the pub will be closed to all but invited guests. Of course, Rita and Norris are somewhat surprised at this sudden turn of events but, after Karen and Steve leave, the ever-helpful Janice opens her gob and tells them all it was a scam.

Fred's butcher's shop, with Fred imagining his idyllic trip to Scotland to see the herds of good prime beef on the hoof, the beautiful abattoirs and, of course, the final delicacy on a plate. His dreams are shattered by the arrival of Petunia, a local abattoir owner and Fred-admirer, who is organizing the trip.

Underworld, and Karen shows off her engagement ring, issuing invitations to all to join her and her fiancŽ for a party - 7h30 in the Rovers. Angela is the first to 'smell a rat' - and the girls realize that Karen has been economical with the truth about the 'divorce'. Sonia also twigs that Steve's chatting her up was a scam as well. All the girls agree that it was a rotten trick to play on them. Karen's smile fades fast.

After Petunia's visit, Fred decides that he'll have to cancel his impending trip.

In the Rovers, Bev persuades Ciaran to forego his night out with Sunita (time and a half is dangled as a carrot) for they'll be busy tonight with the party. Karen speaks to Betty, who's preparing the buffet, and Betty thinks that they're making a sham of the sanctity of marriage. At the other end of the bar, the factory girls reckon that they have to teach Karen a lesson. Gail lets Nick know her feelings about Brenda's baby-sitting Bethany, but Nick pleads with his Mum to give Sarah some space. A smiling Sunita arrives, but her dazzling smile disappears when Ciaran informs her that he has to work tonight instead of taking her out. Sunita is sick and tired of being a 'bar widow' and Ciaran advises her to go back to Dev and have a good time. Sunita promises to do just that, and storms out.

Later in the Rovers, which is closed for the private party, Steve and Karen arrive to greet the flurry of guests. Ciaran opens the door, and Kirk is an early arrival, the only arrival as yet. The disco starts up, and the DJ welcomes the host and hostess with a rap.

Nick is a visitor to Todd and Sarah's flat, and he reminds Sarah of all that their Mum has done for them, so Sarah should employ some tact. Sarah decides that she's suddenly very tired and goes off to bed, leaving the two lads to have a blether.

The Rovers is very quiet for a Friday evening, the only customers being Karen and Steve, and Kirk, who's filling his stomach with food. The door opens and - it's Norris, who accepts a glass of red wine, not his usual tipple. Behind the bar, Bev and Ciaran get chatting, about life, love and associated subjects. Bev tells him that, if he has split with Sunita, there'll be a queue waiting for his attentions... Karen frantically phones Janice, but her phone is switched off. Meanwhile the DJ has noticed Karen's lack of guests, and weighs-in with a neat little rap.

Bev takes a few moments off bar duty to cajole Fred, who's busy with the books, to cancel his cancellation and go on the trip to Scotland. After all, if Petunia's organizing the trip, she'll be too busy to stalk him. Fred sees the sense of this feminine logic: he's off to Scotland!

The bar of the Rovers and there's still a dearth of guests - just the two mentioned previously. Karen blames Steve for this, just as Norris creeps up and explains that, from what he's heard, certain people have some misgivings about having been taken for a ride. Karen throws Norris out. Steve asks Bev if she'll buy the food back. No. Kirk offers to take some home, for him and Les. Karen throws Kirk out. The rapper seals his fate by beginning another rap and, yes, he finds himself thrown out too.

Nick and Todd have a heart-to-heart about relationships. Todd is happy but... Todd loves Sarah and Bethany but... Todd expected much more from his relationship with Sarah.

Karen and Steve wend their weary way home, laden with bags of extra food, only to meet the girls on their way back from bingo. Fizz presents Karen with something she won (six coffee mugs) which she tells Karen should remind her of how she treated her mates. As the factory girls giggle, Karen and Steve arrive at their door with Karen in tears.

The Rovers, and Ciaran accepts a nightcap from Bev after having cleared up. After all, he has nothing to go home to. He then tells Bev that she's a very attractive woman, and wonders if she'll be 'in the queue' since he's free of Sunita. Ciaran and Bev embrace and the credits roll...

Sunday 5 October

Monday 6 October

We open with Todd sitting on the bed in his darkened bedroom. It's 7.30 am and Sarah is still asleep.

Over at the Harris's, Angie is sitting alone in the kitchen, looking thoughtful, with a cuppa clasped in her hands.

Back at Sarah and Todd's, she's waiting outside the bathroom door, asking if he's all right. He comes out and says he's been sick. Maybe it was the Chinese he had last night.

Back at the Harris's, Craig asks if he can have Katy's room. Tommy says yes, Angie says no. Craig wants to know why, because Katy's gone now. Angie says she'll need it when she comes back. Tommy goes off to work, leaving Angie to comment that there was a time when she got a kiss goodbye. Out in the street Katy has just come out of the Kabin. She greets her dad who just looks at her. He won't answer, and walks on.

Gail and Nick come out of their house into the street. Gail sees Todd across the street and asks Nick if he had a nice night with Todd last night. Nick says he has to rush off to work and leaves in a hurry. Todd comes over, Gail starts to ask him how Sarah is but Todd is looking for Nick and chases after him. He catches up with him but Nick tells him he doesn't want to talk to him, not ever again. He's pretty angry that Todd tried to kiss him, he thought that Todd loved his sister, he thought they were mates. He turns to open the factory door, Todd, trying to placate Nick, touches his shoulder, Nick whips round, 'Don't touch me - stay away!'

Katy goes into the cafe and tries talking to Sarah. She asks if Sarah misses school. Sarah tells her no, all her real friends didn't stay on. She tells Katy she stopped being her friend when she started going out with her dad.

Over at a table, Fizz and Claire, (Ashley's nanny) are talking about Katy and Martin. Sarah comes over and joins in. The conversation turns to mothers. Fizz says her mother was never proud of her, and never noticed for a week when Fizz left home. That was because she used to take her pay packet off her as soon as she got it, and just give her the money back for fares etc. The rest she spent on rent, bills, vodka and sunbeds. Claire is shocked, she gets on well with her mum. Sarah tells them how her mum went to the Social Services to try and get Bethany taken off her. Fizz says how she's heard that a lot of girls turn into their mothers, but she can't see it herself, her mum's a lazy mare with a gob the size of the channel tunnel. Claire asks if Fizz isn't meant to be at work. Taking a large bite of a bun, Fizz explains how she's 'at the dentist!'

In the corner shop, Sunita is wittering on to Todd about her evening with Ciaran last night, now that they've made it up. Sunita thinks Todd looks troubled. Todd tells her that he kissed 'someone' last night, not Sarah. He doesn't understand why it happened. Sunita tries to understand what Todd is telling her, when Nick comes in, and Todd takes him into the back room to talk. Nick asks Todd what game he thinks he's playing, and asks him if he's gay or bisexual. Todd protests that he isn't. So Nick wants to know why Todd kissed him. Todd explains that it just felt right, so Nicks asks what would have happened if he'd kissed him back. Todd doesn't know. Nick wants to know what Todd has told Sarah. He insists that Sarah has to know and if Todd doesn't tell her then Nick will.

The factory girls are coming out of work. Angie sees Sunita outside the shop and asks if she's got any milk left. Sunita tells her she hasn't and suggests Ange asks at the cafe. Todd comes out, it's a quarter to five, and he's off.

Dev arrives outside the Kabin, getting out of a taxi (not one of Streetcars). He's seen by Steve who is on the pavement. He gets into another one that's waiting, (also not one of Streetcars) and to Steve's amazement, drives off.

Katie is back in the cafe, still trying to talk to Sarah. (Glutton for punishment or what?) She tells Sarah that Martin's upset. So is Sarah. Angela comes in and asks Katy for a word. She tells her she misses her and asks her to come home. They'll work something out and she'll still be able to see Martin. Oh yes, Katy can just see her dad going along with that! She asks her mum to come to the flat, but Ange tells her Tommy won't like that and she can't be pulled both ways. She hopes Katy will come to her senses, and then she leaves.

Todd comes in. He says hi to Sarah and she starts to regale him with the woes of the day, but he seems distracted. He suggests they have a quiet night in, Sarah likes that idea.

Over in the taxi office, Dev is talking to Steve and Eileen. He was doing research by using other taxis. He discovered that other firms have satellite navigation systems, which mean quicker journeys, so more of them and more profits. One firm even had a woman driver, a lot of women passengers prefer that. So, Steve wonders sarcastically, now that Dev has done all this research what are they going to do? Install every cab with satellite navigation and employ a load of women? Dev grins, Steve's got it in one!

Sarah and Todd are washing up in the cafe. Sarah wonders if this is it for life, their little flat and boring jobs. Todd asks her if she wants things to change. She tells him she wants some things to change and some things to stay the same. Todd asks her if she can tell him everything. Sarah comments that he should have gone to Oxford, he talks about things she doesn't even think about. He tells her he loves her, she's all he wants.

Tommy and Angela are talking at home. She tells him she saw Katy and asked her to come home, but the novelty hasn't worn off yet. Tommy tells her to accept it, Katy has left home, and she can't come back unless she finishes with Martin Platt.

Dev and Steve have an argument about spending their profits on the changes.

Nick is in the butcher's, talking to Ashley. (What time does he stay open till then? Everyone else has finished work!) Nicks asks if Ashley has heard from Zoe. Ashley hasn't. They reminisce about the days when Nick and Leanne lived with Ashley and Zoe. Nick suggests that he and Ash go out for a drink. Ahs thought Nick was friendly with Todd. Nick quickly tells him that he's not, Todd's just a kid.

Todd has picked Bethany up from the creche, and is waiting for Sarah to come out of the cafe. As she comes out, Nick comes along and Sarah invites him for tea. She goes on in and out on the pavement Nick tells Todd he can see he hasn't told Sarah yet. Todd protests that he hasn't had a chance yet.

Angela meets Gail in the shop. Gail tells her she's not on her own, there's no such thing as a normal family. Angie hates being in the middle, she'd just like some peace. Gail tells her she's there anytime Ange feels like a chat.

Up in the flat, Sarah asks Todd to go for some chips, but Todd is reluctant to leave Nick alone with Sarah and says he'll go later. He tells Nick, quietly, that he needs more time, but Nick insists he tells Sarah NOW! Bethany cries, so Nick goes to see to her and Todd, alone with Sarah as she is laying the table, tries to talk to her. He tells her there's something he needs to talk to her about, and asks her to sit down. Sarah doesn't want to. He tries to tell her, but ends up just telling her he loves her. Nick comes back into the room, as Sarah is asking why Todd was sick this morning. Nick announces that he was sick because he is sick. He tells the stricken Todd that he could have told her himself. Sarah demands to know what's going on. Todd pleads with Nick not to say anything, but Nick is determined. He tells her 'Your boyfriend is gay Sarah, Todd's gay!'

We open where we left off, with Nick telling Sarah that Todd is gay. She asks Todd whether he is or not. He tells her he's not. Sarah doesn't understand what's going on. Nick tells her that Todd made a pass at him last night, he kissed him. Nick tells her that Sarah is his sister and he wants her to be happy. Todd tries to get Nick to shut up, but Nick will not, he won't have his sister hurt. He asks Todd why he kissed him. Todd doesn't know, Sarah is incredulous. 'You kissed him?' she asks. Todd replies that he did, but he doesn't know why. Nick repeats that as Sarah is his sister he thought she should know. Sarah tells Nick to leave, she wants to talk to Todd.

Over the road, Sally rushes into the Rover asking if Shelley's heard from Peter. She's rushed off her feet and people are phoning asking about him. Shelley suggests she goes next door and tries Ken. A very harassed Sally rushes off, as Lucy comes in. Bev wonders to Shelley what she wants. Lucy asks Shelley if she fancies a night out, she's got a babysitter. Shelley explains that she can't leave her mum on her own in the pub, so she can't. Lucy asks if its ok if she stays in the pub, and orders a dry white wine.

Over at a table, a very fed up looking Karen is talking to Steve. She says the girls at work are jealous of her, and they think she's a joke for wanting to do things properly. Well, soon they'll be begging to come to the wedding, because it's going to be the best wedding any of the people round there have ever seen. Steve remarks wryly that it won't be if Dev has his way, he wants to plough all of Streetcars' profits back into the business. Karen is outraged. She wants a big posh wedding dress, a horsedrawn carriage, a reception with a view, and the three tier wedding cake, she's not getting married on the cheap again!

Sarah comes out of Bethany's room, having settled her down. She sits down to talk to Todd. He tries to explain, saying it wasn't how it seems, Nick has made it sound nasty. Sarah tells him she's trying to understand, and asks if Todd fancies Nick. Todd insists he's not gay, Nick is her brother, so like her. He keeps asking himself why he did it, Sarah is all he wants, but he and Nick just hit it off and last night they were having a laugh......he's so, so sorry. She asks what he's saying, he tells her there's stuff going round in his head and he can't explain it. Maybe Nick's right, maybe he is gay.

Over in the pub, Lucy is still there. Bev asks her if she's all right. Lucy tells Bev she knows she doesn't like her much. Bev admits it, and says that Lucy slept with Peter knowing he had a girlfriend. She doesn't deserve to be trusted, or deserve sympathy when it all goes wrong. Lucy asks Bev if she hasn't ever made a mistake. Bev tells her she's never knowingly taken another woman's man.

Ashley and Nick are at the bar. Ashley asks Nick what's wrong. Nick asks Ash if he's ever done anything to make Ash think he's gay. Ash chortles no, why, he's not is he? Nick assures him he's not, and Ashley thinks it's the women at the factory who've been winding him up.

Karen is giving Steve a little pep talk. Telling him it's his business as well as Dev's, in fact the only reason Dev is in it is because his dodgy cousin did a runner. She urges him to stick up for himself, show Dev who's boss. Steve, fired with enthusiasm, turns and asks Les if he wants his old job back, and when Les says he does, tells him to be at Streetcars first thing in the morning. Karen is not impressed - she's determined to have the wedding she wants, even if it means killing Steve and getting the insurance money. Steve's face is a picture!

Lucy is at the bar, talking to Shelley. She tells her that her other friends don't understand what she's been through, Shelley is the only person she feels comfortable with right now. Shelley invites her through to the back room for a chat.

Sarah and Todd are still talking things over. She asks him if he's ever had feelings like this for another boy before. He tells her he hasn't, he doesn't think so. Sarah is the first girl he ever slept with, he went out with Candice for nine months and all they did was kiss. He told Sarah he was waiting for the right person, her. Sarah asks what if he doesn't want a girl, what if he wants a boy? She's not so worried about that, it's the fact that he kissed someone else, he can't love her.

Angie is in the garden, getting in the washing. She looks up and sees Craig through Katy's bedroom window. She calls up to ask him what he's doing. He's clearing out Katy's stuff because his dad told him he can have her room. Angie marches indoors to see Tommy and demands to know why he told Craig he can have Katy's room. She said that morning that Craig was not to have it, how's Katy going to feel to think she hasn't got a room there any more. Angie wants her to feel she can come back at any time and be welcome. Tommy remarks that she can come back when she's finished with 'im. Ange asks if it didn't occur to him that she needed that room to stay exactly as it was, so she can imagine Katy in it. She's her daughter and as long as the room stayed the same she could see her back in it, now she can't any more.

Todd and Sarah are still talking things over. Todd tells her he does love her, he never meant for anything to happen. She tells him she's his girlfriend, he's not supposed to kiss anyone, especially not boys, is she not enough for him. She asks if he never fancied girls before her, is that because he's gay? Todd can't explain but tells her it has nothing to do with her. Sarah explodes! Oh it never has anything to do with her, does it. Like when he walked out of the exam room. She doesn't know what goes on in his head. She used to think she wasn't as bright as him, but now she knows it's because he shuts her out, he shuts everyone out. Todd doesn't mean to, he tells her he feels like he's two people. Sarah tells him he has hurt her so much.

Ashley gets home to find Claire watching tv. She tells him her mum has gone to bingo so she's rather stay with him than go home to an empty house. They get talking about times past and Ash tells her how Nick used to live there with him and Zoe. They chat about past histories with girl friends and boyfriends.

Lucy and Shelley are chatting. Shelley tells Lucy that her mum doesn't like her, but Lucy knows. She tells Shelley that she never set out to be the other woman, and then corrects herself, that's a lie, she did know about Shelley from the start. She asks Shelley if she hates her. Shelley admits that she did, but not any more. She hates thinking of herself as a victim. Lucy assures her that she's not a victim, Peter was really good at fooling both of them. They decide that chats like these are what they call therapy.

Sarah is asking Todd if he ever kissed a boy before, and did he want to go to bed with Nick? She thought he was happy, now she hates him. She starts packing, she's leaving. Todd pleads with her, he's not gay. She tells him he kissed her brother, she's taking Beth and getting out. He pleads with her not to go, he meant to hurt her, he can't explain how he's feeling. He loves her, would she please not go. She has to get away, she needs time to think. She puts Bethany's coat on her, and goes out of the door. Out in the street he asks where she's going. She tells him she doesn't know where she's going, and she and Bethany get on a bus which happens to be at the bus stop. Todd picks up Beth's dropped teddy from the road, and standing in the street, cries. (Very poignant...)

Wednesday 8 October

Evening All - back from holiday now..

Tonight's episode starts with Sarah and Bethany at newly found Grandmother's Brenda Fearns where they are staying after leaving Todd.

Todd, meanwhile has turned up at Gail's house asking after Sarah, unfortunately Nick answers the door, Todd cannot believe that Nick would be so unforgiving in his attitude, Nick reckons Sarah needed to know the truth. Nick thinks Todd is gay. Gail then turns up and Todd goes off.

Sally has turned up at Kevin's garage with sandwiches, Kevin is not happy with the amount of time that Sally is spending at the bookies now that Peter is not around and tells Sally to be in the cafe for lunch, Tyrone ends up with the sandwiches!

At the cab firm Les has turned up for work and then Dev walks in, not aware that Steve has re-employed Les and is underwhelmed to find that he is back! Dev tells him to go!

Back at Brenda Fearns Sarah is telling some of what happened between her and Todd, Brenda thinks that it was a girl that was kissed by Todd, Sarah doesn't amend that impression. Sarah tells Brenda that Todd still loves her and Bethany.

At the corner shop Todd is moping about, Sunita has made him a cup of tea and offers him some sympathy, Eileen comes in now for biscuits and seeing Todd's unhappy features asks what is up - Sunita makes herself scarce so that Eileen can find out what is bothering Todd, Todd gets as far as saying that Sarah and himself have had a row when in walks Jason waving a fistful of money which is readily confiscated by Eileen!

At Roy's Rolls Hayley is reading out the roll list to Roy who is getting edgy as he is short staffed as Sarah has not turned up, Nick comes in then asking for Sarah, Kevin sitting by himself has had enough waiting for Sally and with a big sigh walks out and back to work (or pub).

At the bookies Kevin has turned up there and is annoyed at Sally for not turning up for lunch and makes it clear that he is not happy with Sally continuing to work there.

At the Rovers Les is about to have a pint unhappy at not being able to work, I never though that would happen...

Jason and Todd are there as well, Jason is trying to cheer Todd up when Nick comes in still trying to find Sarah, Jason gives Nick a friendly enough welcome not being aware of the situation between Nick and Todd.

Bit of a record here, Les has had a pint in front of him for about five seconds without drinking it when Steve comes in to collect him for his first cabbie job Steve does not know that Dev has "sacked" him Steve then tells Les that he does the hiring and firing and not Dev.

Tracy also at the bar hears the conversation and makes it obvious that she wouldn't mind working as a taxi driver for them.

At the corner shop Gail is asking Todd where Sarah and Bethany are and what is wrong, luckily the phone starts ringing here to save Todd some potentially embarrassing moments.

At the Rovers Kevin not a happy man and is giving Shelley a bad time, Sunita comes in next and gets a better reception from Ciaran, Sunita tells Ciaran she is worried about Todd.

Sally comes rushing in here and hands Shelley the keys to the bookies saying that she has had enough of Peter treating her as a mug, when Shelley tells Sally that she does not know where Peter is she tells her to keep the keys anyway. Kevin looks distinctly smug here!

Back at Brenda's Sarah has had a rest and Brenda volunteers to collect Bethany if Sarah wants to go and speak to Todd. Sarah doesn't think she can forgive Todd.

At the cabbies Tracy has turned up for an interview - Les is not happy with this, Dev and Steve enter here arguing about - guess what - Steve employing Les and Steve unhappy at Dev sacking Les. Dev also not to happy at seeing Tracy there as a prospective driver, not surprising when you consider their past relationship! Meanwhile the phone is ringing and Eileen takes the call - someone who wants a woman driver! Dev walks out in a huff leaving Steve to carry on and employ Tracy if he wants to. Eileen, however, was making up the bit about the customer wanting a woman driver and Les leaves to do the job.

Back at Todd's flat he looks as he has the whole troubles of the world on his young shoulders but when Sarah comes in he is overwhelmed to see her and tries to explain what has happened.

In the Rovers Roy and Hayley are having a drink, but when Ken and Deirdre walk in they both go quickly and bump into Tracy on the way out, Tracy however, has nothing to say to them.

Behind the bar Bev is trying to warn Shelley about getting too friendly with Lucy, Shelley thinks that Lucy is her one friend whereas Bev just considers Lucy as "the bit on the side".

Meanwhile Tracy is also at the bar and has told a disbelieving Deirdre that she has a job, Ken also looks astounded and even more so when they find out she is working as a taxi drive for Steve McDonald! Tracy is annoyed at their reception to her news.

Shelley behind the bar has just phoned Lucy, Bev overhears this, Shelley tells Lucy that something has turned up and she doesn't know what to do about it (I bet Lucy will - be round there quick for the keys...)

Back at Todd's Sarah is finding it hard to believe that Todd will not do the same thing again but eventually she is brought round and says she is going to collect Bethany Todd thinks things will be as they were but only time will tell!

That's all folks

Friday 10 October

Hi everyone, here is tonight's report......

We open with Ken, in his dressing gown, getting the milk in off the doorstep. Emily comes out of her house next door and hands him an envelope, and wishes him 'many happy returns' - it's his 64th birthday. Deirdre comes up behind Ken and urges Emily not to make too much fuss, and then Tracy comes along, writing the envelope as she walks, and hands the card to Ken, with a 'happy birthday' greeting. Deirdre makes a dry comment about a hasty purchase. Ken glosses over that and informs Emily that they've had good news from Tracy. Emily obviously thinks it's something else (the baby!) but is soon disappointed when Tracy tells her she's going to be a taxi driver. After Ken and Deirdre have gone back inside, Emily tells Tracy she thinks it's about time Tracy told them her 'more pressing' news.

Over at Todd and Sarah's, we see Sarah sitting in her pyjamas and dressing gown, with tea and toast, watching tv. Todd comes in and asks how long she's been up, she says not long, but he's felt her side of the bed and it was cold. He puts his arm round her and tries to kiss her but she shrugs him off, this isn't normal behaviour for him and she's worried that he feels he has something to prove. He assures her that he fancies her and always has.

In the taxi office, Dev is on the phone, making an appointment to see Miss Sharma (his solicitor). Tracy comes in and asks if he feels threatened by a strong woman coming into his 'little boy's club'. He points out that they have Eileen, so Tracy corrects it to a 'strong, attractive, young woman'. Steve warns her that if she cheeses Eileen off no one will be able to save her. Tracy moans that Dev has taken against her. Steve just tells her to get in the taxi and drive round, he'll time her. She's told that if she gets caught speeding she'll pay the fine.

Martin calls to David who has come out of his house on his way to school. He invites him round at the weekend. David asks if 'she' is still there. Martin says she is, he loves her, but he loves David as well and misses him. After a moment's thought David declines the invitation.

Sunita and Ciaran come down the street, giggling together, obviously a close couple. Todd is waiting to get into the shop. They overslept they tell him. Sarah comes along with Bethany, but sees Gail approaching and hurries off. Sunita tells Todd to put the flowers out as Gail reaches him. She asks if he's ok, and also asks after Sarah and Beth. Todd tells her they're fine. Gail asks him how things are with him and Nick, Nick obviously took Sarah's side, so have he and Sarah fallen out? Todd assures her that they're happy.

In the back room of the Rovers, Bev is going through the post. Shelley and Lucy come in, Bev is obviously not thrilled to see Lucy and reminds Shelley she's doing the dinners. Lucy tells her she's just come to pick up the keys for the bookies. Shelley offers her a cup of tea and when she accepts Bev has to go and make it. When they're alone Lucy tells Shelley to forget the tea, but to meet her at the bookies at 11am. She'll tell her why when she gets there.

In the cafe, Roy gives Ken a cake box, a small token from him and Hayley to mark Ken's 64th birthday. Hayley tells him he's a young 64. Ken reflects that when he was growing up, 64 yr olds were either in a bath chair or in the snug at the Rovers. Hayley jokes that he'll be all right, he's always stood at t'bar. Ken reckons that as he's got his health and Deirdre, he's lucky. (Perhaps he should get out more?) His grandparents were part of his life, which won't be the same for Peter's son. After he's gone, Hayley tells Roy that that's a complication they hadn't thought of. Roy says he'll have no problem with Ken spending as much time with his grandchild as he wants.

In the corner shop, Eileen comments on Sunita's rosy glow, something to do with Ciaran. Todd, pricing cans, looks up and tells them to give it a rest. Sunita says she's not the only one 'loved up' round here. Eileen is pleased to hear that Todd and Sarah are back together, and asks what the row was about. Todd won't say so Eileen reckons Jason will tell her, but Todd tells her that Jason knows nothing. Just then Dev and Karen burst in, arguing. Karen wants to know why they've employed Tracy, Dev tells her it was Steve's decision. Karen storms off to ask him about it.

Lucy and Shelley are in the bookies. Lucy's plan is to take over the business. Peter made money at it, she doesn't see why they can't. They'll pay the assistant and keep the profits - they'll bleed Peter dry. (Technically that wouldn't actually be legal...betting license being in Peter's name).

Karen and Steve are walking down the street arguing about Tracy's employment, he didn't consult her! He tells her he's teaching Dev a lesson but Karen reckons they've got him well stitched up, who's got money for their wedding? - Dev. Who's driving his cab? - A flippin' fruitcake!

Gail meets Nick coming out of the cabin after being sent for Mike's cigars. Gail tells Nick that Sarah and Todd were together this morning. Nick is horrified but won't tell Gail what the trouble is. He tells her to speak to Sarah.

In the pub, Shelley approaches Sally and tells her that Lucy is reopening the bookies and asks if she'll come back to work. Sally refuses at first but gets more interested when Shelley tells her there will be more money. Shelley then tells Bev that she's needed at the bookies. Bev is not at all pleased because Ciaran has just gone off for an hour.

Tracy rushes into the Kabin, asking the way to Weatherfield General. Emily and Norris start discussing the best way, while Tracy impatiently grabs a map book. Norris takes it off her and she rushes off. Gail comes into the shop and sees Sarah, she tells her that she knows something is wrong and wishes Sarah would talk to her. Sarah tells Gail to mind her own business.

Over in the bookies, Sally is telling Lucy that there's enough money in the safe for a float. Sally says she feels like she's in an awkward position. But she tells them the machine will work out the winnings for them and there's 700 pounds in the safe.

Ciaran rushes back to work in the pub, and covertly hands Ken a card, from Peter. Bev moans to Ciaran that Shelley and Lucy are going to open up the bookies.

Eileen catches up to Hayley in the street, trying to persuade her to come for a drink. Tracy comes by, driving the taxi. Hayley stares, open mouthed and horrified, and then rushes off.

In the shop, Sunita hugs Todd, and asks him what he and Sarah are doing tonight. She advises him to get a takeaway, there's no washing up and no excuse to leave the sofa. Jason comes in and asks Todd what the row was about, but Todd isn't saying. Jason reckons Todd should give Sarah chocolates and flowers but Sunita doesn't think that's a good idea. Women like men who go with their instincts.

In the taxi office, Hayley rushes in and demands to know why Tracy is driving a taxi, and not even wearing a seatbelt. Steve would like to know what its got to do with Hayley. Hayley, looking sheepish, departs.

In the pub, Bev is still not a happy bunny over the reopening of the bookies. Shelley and Lucy are buying Sally a drink.

Sarah and Todd have finished their takeaway. Todd starts getting romantic, but Sarah is playing it cool. Nick arrives, demanding to know why Sarah is back with Todd. Sarah tells him what Todd did didn't mean anything, and he isn't gay.

In the cafe Roy tells Hayley that cab drivers are exempt from wearing seat belts. Tracy comes in, she's extremely annoyed to hear from Steve that Hayley has been checking up on her, and if they want her to stop working they'll have to pay her what she could have earned. They can't do that.

Sarah, meanwhile, is demanding to know who Nick thinks he is. He tells her he doesn't want to see her heart broken. Bethany cries and Sarah goes off to see to her. When they're alone, Nick tells Todd that he'll be watching him.

Anne Logan

Sunday 12 October

Okay folks it is me again! Despite my recent trip to Canada, I did not see one episode of the Street over there. I did want to see it, just to see any technical changes!

Before I carry on with tonightâs episode I must pay my tribute to Iain McDougall. We met when he and I were both writing reports for two different groups, so we decided to merge our ãtalentsä. Over the following years he introduced many of my colleague reporters to the lists. I didnât know him very well, I know he was a retired gentleman and did some part time work proof-reading. I think he is known on some lists as "ginger". He had high standards in the English language. (He would probably criticise this muck up!).

I believe he had a connection with a church choir ·. I think he was an organist. This however did not stop him attending regular ãmeetingsä with his local publican! We rarely spoke on the phone, inasmuch as he lived in Scotland, and I in London. (Long distance phone calls are more expensive). However just before my holiday he did telephone me to wish me a good time. Covering for reporters who were on holiday etc., was never too much a burden for him. I will certainly miss Iainâs Friday night reports, and his humorous interjections. My best wishes to his wife and the rest of his family.

My thanks must also go to Anne, who offered to cover his Friday report, last week at very short notice.

Well letâs get on with Sundayâs episode (sorry for the delay, but I am without connection at home at present!).

We start off with Shelley saying goodbye to Bev outside the Rovers, she says she will be only a couple of hours at the bookies. Bev reminds her that only Lucy has a legal claim on the bookies, and without her being there it would be trespass. [Wouldnât they have discussed all that inside before she left?].

Sarah tells Todd that she wants him to be friends with Nick again. However Todd is not sure that they can be friends again.

Roy and Hayley express concern about Tracy driving around in the minicab.

Shelley calls Lucy from outside the bookies. A Îfor saleâ sign has gone up outside.

Tracy comes into the kitchen and smells her motherâs cooking. She does not like it and tells her so in no uncertain terms. Deirdre and Ken are so astounded that she could be so heartless, she seems worse than ever.

Lucy arrives at the bookies and tries to ring Peter. All she gets is the answering machine.

Jason tells Eileen that a friend tells him there are plenty of jobs in Manchester and he is going for an interview for one.

Kevin tells Ken that Sally is working at the bookies again. Ken says she cannot do that.

Bev is flirting with Ciaran in the pub. Tracy spots them and is suspicious.

Maria is sitting with Candice in the Rovers. Nick is also there. Maria says that she is always sees him with Todd. She wonders if they are joined at the hip. Nick storms off, leaving Maria wondering what she had said. She says that she is fed up with him, and doesnât want any more to do with him.

Sally explains to Lucy and Shelley the workings of the bookies. Ken comes in and tells Lucy that what she is doing is illegal [and I thought that it was a sick bird!]. However Lucy says she does have a legal right to continue the business as she was a part owner.

Jason tells Eileen that he hasnât got the job, but the interviewer has given him a lot of contact names for other jobs. In the meantime he says the drinks are on Todd.

Roy and Hayley go into the pub and see Hayley drinking there, much to their annoyance.

Karen wants to plan the wedding hotel. Steve says they havenât even set a date. He has to work long hours to get some money together for the wedding.

Deirdre tells Emily that Tracy is in acting rather strangely, and having mood swings. Emily listens silently.

Roy goes up to Tracy to tell her to tell Deirdre that she is pregnant. Tracy refuses to do so. She then joins Deirdre and Emily. Deirdre asks Tracy is she has something to tell her. Emily looks expectantly as Tracy says she does. She says she wonât be home for dinner. [How long is this game going to continue?].

Candice sees Nick in the street and starts to chat him up. She tells him that he has no mates in the area, and very kindly offers herself to go out with him.

This time Hayley has a go at Tracy, telling her to face her responsibilities. Tracy says nobody will know of the pregnancy until she wants it to be known. She wonât tell who the father is, but says when it comes out in an anorak and smelling of frying fat, everybody will know it is Royâs! [Do babyâs usually get born with clothes then?].

Candice is excited and tells Sarah that Nick has asked her out. She and Todd are very pleased for her.

Shelley takes a bet from Les in the bookies, and says to Sally in a little too loud voice that this is a ãmug punters betä. Sally and Lucy intervene saying that she is confused. Les, of course, is furious.

Ken sees Ciaran in the Rovers and tells him how the girls have taken over the bookies. He feels Ciaran should let Peter know.

Candice and Nick are sitting in the pub together. Candice wants to know from Nick are they out on a date or what · [no, they had come together to discuss the theory of relativity!].

Lesâ horse loses. Soon after the race Sally chucks everybody out of the bookies because they are closing. Les is furious, and says it is as bad there as the Rovers. Sally then says she was right about ãmug punters betsä.

Roy and Hayley are getting to the end of their tether about Tracy. However Hayley reminds him that they are going to have to continue dealing with her for 18 years. Roy decides that she must be forced to tell Ken and Deirdre.

Lucy divides the profits from the bookies, three ways. One share each for herself and Shelley and one for Peter. Shelley has initial misgivings. Lucy says think of it as compensation. Lucy she says she wants to see Peter banged up, bankrupt and broken. Shelley agrees.

Monday 13 October

In the back room of the pub, Shelley is counting her wad of money from the bookies. Bev comes in and jokingly wonders if she's doing a runner! Shelley tells her she's just counting. Bev (obviously curious) asks if there's anything Shelley wants to tell her, but Shelley tells her there isn't really, no.

Over at the Barlow's, Tracy has just received a letter telling her that her divorce has been finalized, she's officially a Barlow again. Deirdre says she's sorry, but Tracy isn't. However, Ken thinks Tracy may be hurting more than she's letting on.

Out in the street David, Craig and another boy are kicking a ball against the garage door. In the shop, Rita is holding her head. Tracy, in the shop, asks if she's got a headache. Norris tells her of course she has, with that bang, bang, bang all day. Tracy steps outside and tells the boys to keep banging the door. Tommy comes along and joins in the kick about, until the new boy says loudly that there's always some grown up pratt who thinks he's Roy Keene. Craig nervously introduces his dad to Brad, who's in his class. Norris comes out of the shop saying he hopes they've finished, Rita's had to take a head pill. Tommy reckons Norris should take a head pill!

Roy and Hayley scuttle down the street and catch up with Tracy. They want to talk to her and ask her to come to their flat at 12 o'clock, or she'll have cause to regret it. (Roy being masterful!)

Shelley is having doubts about taking the takings from the bookies. Lucy thinks there's nothing wrong with what they're doing. Sally comes in, pleased to find that for once she hasn't had to open up. She tells them that she usually takes the weekend takings to the bank on a Monday. Lucy tells her that's all taken care of, and says she can put the kettle on. Sally asks if they've heard anything from Peter, she wants to know where she stands. Lucy promises as soon as they know, she will.

Audrey comes across Maria and Candice in the cafe. She tries to hustle them to work, but they protest it's only five minutes to nine. She decides to have a cuppa, and warns them they might have to work late tonight. Candice declares that she can't, she's got a date. Maria thinks her date must be a minger or she'd tell them who he was. Audrey sends Candice to get her a cup of tea and has a little pep talk with Maria, reminding her about Candice's trouble with her mum, and tells her that Candice really looks up to Maria. Maria is obviously chuffed to hear this, and volunteers to work late instead of Candice.

Emily is in the Kabin. Norris is still moaning about the kids outside, Rita comes in, she had to go and lie down because of her headache. Emily thinks perhaps they should have a word. Norris doesn't think that would do any good, no, something has to be done and he just might do it!

In their flat, Roy is wondering to Hayley if he was too threatening to Tracy earlier. Hayley doesn't think so, when there's a knock on the door. Tracy comes in telling them to be quick, she's got a vodka and orange waiting. Hayley disapproves of her drinking. Tracy tells her she's 26, divorced and pregnant, she feels that calls for a drink, in fact - several. Hayley thinks she should tell her mum and dad that she's pregnant so, if it will stop them pestering her, Tracy promises to tell them this afternoon.

Brenda Fearns is visiting Sarah and Bethany. She's glad to hear that Sarah and Todd are back together, she wouldn't recommend being a single parent. Sarah tells Brenda she's the only one who has been of any help. Brenda asks after Bethany and Sarah tells her she's asleep. Brenda offers to take Bethany out for a couple of hours to give Sarah a break. Sarah hasn't anything else to do, she will go too. Brenda doesn't seem very keen and asks Sarah if she's sure, isn't there something else she would rather be doing. Sarah assures her there isn't and goes to get Bethany ready.

In the pub, Bev is wondering to Ciaran where Shelley got all that money from. Ciaran doesn't know.

In the pub, Candice is talking to Maria and Fizz. They are trying to find out who Candice's hot date is. She tells them they both know him, and then goes off to the flat, to try on her outfit. As she passes Nick at the bar, she tells him she'll see him later. Mike asks Nick if they've got a date. Nick tells him they have. Mike asks where he's taking her, but Nick doesn't know. Mike tells him he ought to know what kind of food she likes if he's taking her for a meal.

Behind the bar Bev and Ciaran are still talking about Peter and Shelley. Bev thinks Ciaran knows more than he's saying, and then Shelley comes in behind them, and is cross that they're talking about her. She tells them she's going over to the bookies and then going shopping.

At the Barlow's Ken is sitting at the table when Tracy comes in. He asks her to come and sit down and then gives her a little pep talk and wonders if she's ok about the break up of her relationship. He tells her he's always ready to listen to her. He compares her to Peter, at least with her he knows what he's getting.

Nick calls at the flat to ask Candice what kind of food she likes. He sees her looking stunning in her evening outfit. They start to get very friendly and affectionate........

In the pub Maria decides she's going back to the flat. Fizz follows.

Ken comes into the pub and talks to Ciaran. They ask each other if they've heard any news, but neither has. Ken isn't sorry Peter's selling the bookies, he was never that keen on it, but he wishes he'd come back and do it in person.

Fizz and Maria get back to the flat. Fizz is still wondering who Candice's boyfriend is, Maria isn't bothered. Then Candice comes out of the bedroom, followed by Nick. Maria's face is a picture!

Mike is in the shop talking to Dev, who is dressed very smartly in a suit, and whips out specs and puts them on. (He looks decidedly smarmy.) Mike reckons it must mean either the bank manager or a woman. Dev wants to make an impression on someone, a certain female lawyer. Mike says he'll make an impression all right, but it might not be the one he wants.

Back at the flat, Nick is putting on his jacket, preparing to go. Candice tells Maria she looks like she's seen a ghost. Maria comments that maybe she has. Candice escorts Nick out. Fizz tells Maria that Candice will be unbearable all afternoon.

In the cafe Hayley is there. She has come home from work because she just couldn't concentrate. Deirdre comes in and orders two vanilla slices, she thought they'd push the boat out. Hayley and Roy look at her. Deirdre, startled, asks, 'What?' They tell her its nothing and she goes, looking rather puzzled at their behaviour. Hayley realizes that Tracy hasn't told Ken and Deirdre about the pregnancy. Roy suggests they outflank her by telling them themselves. Hayley reckons Roy's finest hour is still to come.

Dev arrives to see the solicitor. She can't remember him. He reminds her that she dropped all her papers and he helped her pick them up. She explains to him that his appointment is not with her. He wants to discuss tenancy law and the specialist is another lawyer, Mr. Pumphrey. Dev looks gutted.

Outside the Barlow's, Roy and Hayley brace themselves, and then ring the doorbell.

The kids are still kicking the ball outside the Kabin. Norris comes out and the ball hits him square on the forehead. He is so cross he confiscates the ball. The new boy, Barry, tells the others he will have to learn. Craig has another ball and goes off home to get it.

In the Barlow's living room, Roy and Hayley are waiting for Tracy to come home before they will tell Ken and Deirdre why they are there. Deirdre wants to know if they can't tell them now. Roy reckons it's better if they are all together. Ken and Deirdre are puzzled.

Norris and Rita are discussing the confiscating of the football. Rita thinks it wasn't very fair of Norris. Then they hear the loud banging again outside.

Ken is wondering if maybe they shouldn't arrange a time when they could all meet together, after all, Tracy could be out all night. Just then, Tracy arrives back. When she sees the Croppers she demands to know what they are doing there. Deirdre demands to know what has happened now? Roy speaks up and tells them that Tracy is expecting a baby and he is the father........

That's all for now, everyone. Episode 2 will follow later. (When I've had some sleep!)

We start again where we finished....in the Barlow's living room. Tracy looks sulky, Hayley tells Ken and Deirdre that they thought they had a right to know. Deirdre and Ken are incredulous. Tracy shouts that she didn't need those two freaks to come and drop it like a bombshell. Roy points out that she is carrying the freak's baby and the freak has rights. He tells Ken and Deirdre that he will offer every support. Ken is horrified, she got pregnant because of a bet, and this poor mite is the jackpot.

In the solicitor's office, Mr. Pomfrey is trying to find out exactly what it is that Dev wants. Has he got problem tenants? Does he want them out? Dev says it's nothing like that, he might want to sell up. He starts being rather vague, it seems he doesn't really know what the problem is. Then he tells the solicitor that he has a problem with his neighbour's extension.......(It would seem there isn't really a problem, Dev was obviously hoping for an appointment with Miss Sharma).

Back at the Barlow's, Deirdre is telling Roy and Hayley they weren't sure Tracy could have children after her kidney transplant. Hayley says the last thing they wanted was to upset Ken and Deirdre. Tracy tells them all, ok, she's pregnant because of a bet, it's mad, but she's had no stability with them and their 'musical chairs' love life.

Over in the Kabin, Rita is admonishing Norris, she says she felt like the wicked witch of the west walking past those kids, Norris shouldn't have confiscated their ball. Rosie snubbed her. Emily thinks that perhaps if there was a youth club or somewhere for them to go..... Norris thinks that's twaddle, they'd only cover it in graffiti. He refuses to be intimidated by those hoodlums. They hear the sound of another ball banging on the wall. Norris rushes out of the shop and confiscates that one too.

Roy and Hayley are walking home across the street. They both feel terrible.

Dev is coming out of the solicitor's office and meets Miss Sharma. He asks her for a drink at the wine bar round the corner, but she tells him she doesn't date clients. He asks her out for dinner, but she declines and goes off to answer the phone.

Fizz is sitting in the flat scoffing chocs and reading a magazine. Candice and Maria come in, arguing. Candice tells Maria she asked if she minded and Maria had told her she didn't mind who he (Nick) went out with. Maria points out she didn't mind if he started seeing 'someone', but she'd come back for a sandwich and found the two of them 'at it' in the bedroom. Fizz reminds her that now she knows how Toyah felt, except that she was still going out with John. Candice points out that Maria dumped Nick.

In the shop the kids are arguing about the confiscated balls. Rita tells them she will take the balls to their homes that evening. She wonders if they know how annoying the constant thumping is, and footballs belong on the Red Rec. Bradley points out that its full of syringes and smack-heads. Then he gets cheeky and gives so much lip that Norris stabs the ball. Rita is horrified.

Ken is talking to Tracy, telling her he's taught thousands of kids and none have got pregnant because of a bet. Deirdre tells her the kidney transplant was wasted on her. (Oooch! Bit strong that!) Ken tells her he's raised a bigamist and a monster. (Scuse me, but Ken didn't actually raised Peter, did he?) Tracy wants to go and lie down, Ken shouts at her to sit down. He tells her she jumped into bed with the husband of her best friend, she stole Wally from under her gran's nose. They've been too lenient with her, they should have smacked her a few times. Tracy tells him it's not too late to start, a miscarriage would do her nicely. Deirdre slaps her, and tells her she's an evil little cow. Tracy gasps that she loves her too. Deirdre tells her she does love her, that's the curse of being a mother, but does Tracy think she's easy to love? She's a stunner but she's abused everything nature gave her. Deirdre wants to be proud of her daughter, but its like she's rotten inside. Tracy cries now, genuinely upset. She begs Deirdre not to say that, and she is so sorry, so sorry.

Outside, Shelley and Lucy have returned from their shopping trip carrying lots of bags and listing all the things they've bought.

Down the street, Tommy and Craig are knocking on Norris's door, but there's no one home.

Norris and Emily are in the pub with Rita, moaning about Charlotte Church's eyeshadow and kids today. Emily says they shouldn't get this out of proportion. Norris says he draws the line at intimidating behaviour. Rita asks what he calls stabbing a football?

Lucy and Shelley are showing Mike some things they bought, and telling him about their meal in a five star restaurant. They buy him a large scotch.

Ken has gone to Roy and Hayley's flat. He doesn't know how they've given her such a skewed vision of the world. He sent cheques to Scotland to assuage his guilt, but he was always there for Tracy to give her a guiding hand. Ken sees the parenting magazines that Roy and Hayley have, and assumes they're reading up on just so they can help out. He tells them Tracy will abuse them and they'll all be babysitting seven nights a week. He asks about Roy's overdose, Hayley tells him Tracy threatened to have an abortion and Roy tells him he thought he'd lost everything. Ken is shocked and ashamed of Tracy.

Sarah and Todd are in the pub, talking about Brenda. Todd thinks she's a limpet. Candice and Nick come in, Nick says he's surprised to see them in there. Candice sends Nick to get the drinks and tells them about lunch time and Maria's face when she saw Nick.

Tommy is asking Norris for 20 pounds for the two footballs. Tommy warns Norris not to lay a hand on his son's footballs again! Rita tells him it was thud thud thud against the door, and Norris points out how Bradley threatened to put the show windows in. Emily thinks they should go to the Red Rec but Tommy wants his boy where he can see him. Norris only has 10 pounds on him, so Emily and Rita come up with five pounds each. Rita asks Tommy if he endorses Craig's behaviour. Tommy, belligerent as ever, says that's between him and his lad. Rita thinks those children need to learn some manners.

Ken is leaving Roy and Hayley's. Roy tells Ken they're looking forward to the baby's arrival. After he's gone, Roy and Hayley discuss their 'business transaction'. Hayley thinks they are doing a very murky thing but for all the right reasons.

At the Barlow's, Deirdre is outside the back door with a cigarette. Tracy comes out, Deirdre asks if she's eaten. Tracy says she's had a couple of biscuits, and sits down. She asks her mum if she thinks she's a bad person. Deirdre says that no one is all bad, not even her. Deirdre tells her Roy is a good man. Tracy says Hayley is too. Deirdre doesn't think Tracy's joke is funny, but she thinks the baby could be the making of Tracy. Tracy says she sounds like Emily. Deirdre is aghast that Tracy has told Emily and not her. Tracy points out that Deirdre and Ken had thrown her out.

Candice and Nick are in the pub, choosing music from the juke box. Candice is snuggling up to Nick's shoulder. Maria, over at a table with Fizz, comments sourly that all that pawing over Nick is probably for her benefit. Fizz remarks its a waste of time then, seeing as Maria is not a bit bothered! Nick is thinking about Chinese food when Mike coughs loudly. He asks Nick how he got on with Preston King and tells him to keep his distractions to a minimum. Nick grins and asks if he's not allowed a girlfriend? Mike tells him he can have a boyfriend for all he cares (Nick's face turns to stone) as long as he keeps sharp and focused, like Harry, or else they'll be swapping jobs.

Harry, at the bar nearby, turns to talk to Tommy, who is staring morosely into his pint. Fizz, at the table behind, laughs loudly. Harry remarks that they're nice enough girls if only they would keep the volume down. Tommy wishes his Katy was knocking about with them, instead of being shacked up with Martin.

Over at the Barlow's, Ken comes in as Tracy is handing Deirdre a cup of tea. He makes a dry comment about tea and sympathy. Deirdre starts to take Tracy's side for once, until Ken tells Tracy that Roy tried to kill himself. Deirdre asks if it was because of the baby and Ken tells her that Tracy wanted to get rid of it, and she had ruined Roy's life. Tracy says she is sorry. Deirdre jumps to the defence, telling Ken that they've got to get behind Tracy, she is carrying their grandchild and they will do everything they can to help her. Tracy tells them they don't have to, as a way of apologising, and as she knows the Croppers are desperate for a child, she is going to give them her baby.

Phew......that's all for now, I'm of to pour myself a stiff drink!

Wednesday 15 October

Tonight's episode begins at Ken and Deirdre's, Deirdre is trying unsuccessfully to stop Tracy from giving her baby away to the Croppers, Ken and Deirdre are not aware (yet anyway!) of the money that Roy and Hayley will be paying Tracy for the baby. Ken, after Tracy has left tells Deirdre that he is not sure that Roy is the father and feels that Tracy is conning Roy.

At the cafe Roy suggests to Hayley that they should buy Tracy a present, Hayley is quite indignant about this as they have already paid her thousands with the promise of more to come. Tracy then comes in and is not happy with them at telling Ken and Deirdre that she is pregnant. Tracy is still in it for the money and tells Roy and Hayley not to tell Ken and Deirdre about their financial arrangement.

At the salon, Maria and Candice are waiting for Audrey to turn up, the atmosphere seems a little chilly! Audrey eventually finds out that Nick is seeing Candice and rubs Maria's nose in it much to Candice's amusement.

Back at Ken and Deirdre's Ken thinks that Roy may not be the father and thinks it could be Wally, so that she could catch a millionaire, but on finding out that Wally is the gardener she is trying it on with Roy. Tracy comes in then and Ken asks her outright if it is Wally's, Tracy runs off upstairs denying it is Wally's. Ken thinks they ought to tell Roy that he may not be the father.

At the shop the solicitor that Dev was unsuccessfully chatting up re-appears, after a packet of biscuits - is that all... Dev then appears at his smarmiest best, a bit of verbal sparring takes place and dear oh dear Dev sells the biscuits but misses a date!

Deirdre is hanging up the laundry in the back garden area, followed by Ken both are still discussing who the father could be, Emily comes and and says good morning, hearing their discussion she asks if everything is alright - bad choice Emily - Deirdre tells Emily that she knows about the pregnancy and also that if Emily knew before she did why did she not tell her, Emily maintains that Tracy trusted her not to say anything to anybody.

At the factory Nick seems to be getting on better with the staff and atmosphere seems quite friendly, when Nick goes in to the office Mike is concerned that the staff will take advantage of him, Nick then sees Janice sloping off to the loo for a smoke or whatever and determined to show Mike his harder side goes and tells her to get back to her machine and start working, Mike has followed Nick out into the work area and is impressed with the way that Nick has handled Janice and got her back to work without another loo trip.

At the corner shop Norris hears banging, its the kids playing football against the garage doors, Rita tells Norris to ignore it, don't think that will work Rita.

Meanwhile at the cafe Roy and Hayley have joined Ken who starts to tell them that Roy may not be the father.

In the street the kids are still kicking the ball against the doors to annoy Norris.

Back in the cafe Ken has told Roy and Hayley about Wally, Hayley then says she is going to confront Tracy and try and get the truth out of her (no chance).

Hayley turns up to confront Tracy while she is having her lunch, Deirdre has let Hayley in and watches as an angry Hayley accuses Tracy of conning Roy and Hayley, Roy also comes in then followed by Ken who is thanked by Tracy for telling them about Wally. Tracy maintains that the baby is not Wally's and then goes out. Ken suggests that they could always ask Wally as he has his phone number.

The glamorous solicitor is back at the corner shop! Will Dev be luckier this time? Dev is less boisterous this time and the solicitor suggests lunch at 1pm tomorrow.

At the cafe Sarah, Candice, Maria and Todd are sharing a table. The discussion is about a potential foursome, Candice says that Nick is not interested as he wants Candice to himself, when Candice and Maria leaveTodd tells Sarah that he is concerned that everyone will know about his moment of madness with Nick!

Meanwhile Roy, complete with bag, has turned up at the house where Wally is doing some gardening Wally thinks that Roy is a prospective employer, Wally asks who has recommended him and on the mention of Tracy's name and the fact that Roy is not looking for a gardener picks up a garden fork to defend himself against Roy's bag.

Once Roy has convinced Wally that he is not here to harm him Roy comes right out with it, in his own words to ask if they had engaged in "activities of a carnal nature"...Wally hints that he may well have done, however on hearing that Tracy is pregnant - he immediately says "I never touched her".

Back in the Kabin the four neighbourhood pests complete with football have just come in to wind Norris up, Norris stands guard at the door to make sure that everything is paid for before they leave. The ghastly Bradley then gives Norris a lot of stick, which leaves Norris lost for words!

Wally is explaining to Roy that the baby could not be his because he had mumps when he was fifteen and this left him unable to have a family.

End of the working day at the factory, Hayley rushes off to see Roy and how he got on at his meeting with Wally while Nick meets Candice and they go off together watched by Gail and Audrey, Audrey tells Gail not to worry about Nick seeing Candice.

Hayley has got home now and is pleased that Wally is not the father which means that Roy is in with a chance of being the father - is he though? Hayley drops a bombshell here and suggests that Roy and Tracy get married.

What will come of that?

That's all folks,

Pete Webb.

Friday 17 October

Good day. Many of you will be aware that Iain has provided updates on Corrie Street on Fridays for a long time and I can only now thank his memory for all of the hard work that he undertook. A minute's silence please.

And now some of you with very long memories will recall that I have provided updates in the past to Corriedays and more recently I have helped out Glenda on Corrieweeks and offered my temporary services as stand in. If anyone wants to do the regular updates please contact either myself or Martin. This week you get my update and personal views on Street progress.

I do feel that some of the worst storylines can be redeemed by individual performances and so it is with our starting point this evening - Roy Rolls where Hayley is seeking to convince the love of her life (Roy) to marry Tracy. Roy points out that he is already wedded in every way except legal to Hayley (and vice versa). Hayley knows this and knows that the marriage to Tracy is merely to secure some control over the baby. Eventually (after Hayley observes that the law may be changing and a real marriage might be possible) it is agreed that they will see Tracy again and attempt to change her mind. The rapport between these two and the delivery almost make the silly story worthwhile. Tracy is summoned to "High Noon" at the flat at lunchtime and Ken receives confirmation that Wally cannot be responsible for the baby. Meanwhile, elsewhere on the Street.

Gail leaves her house as Candice wanders past. Deciding for once to be nice and cheerful she says hallo to Candice who looks as though she has just been knocked down by a juggernaut. As Nick emerges behind Gail the latter remarks how Candice and he make a lovely couple. Nick as ever would rather not be pushed into anything by his mother. Much later on in the episode Gail meets Candice again and even invites her to tea - hoping that her problems with her mother are behind her. (Don't worry Candice you will soon be persona non grata for transgressing some unwritten rule!).

And in the Corner Shop the newly bespectacled owner is preparing for a light legal lunch, although it is clear that Sunita is still a bearing a torch of some description for Dev - one man is obviously not enough. And much later on Maya turns up in a rather nice red MGF, ruining Sunita's lunch plans.

Martin suggests Angela should try and talk to Katie - use the flat - he will make himself scarce if need be. As Angela leaves the Rovers she sees Katie walking down the Street and she stops to talk. Sadly Tommy is spying on the neighbours through the window (don't we all spend all day doing that instead of working?) and leaves the house to tell Angela off for the crime of talking to her daughter, at the top of his voice of course. It almost makes Les seem like a nice neighbour! Angela does as bid, but once inside she tells Tommy how it is and then returns to the Rovers for her lunch - well about time too. My daughters would have had a laughing fit if I had tried anything resembling Tommy's' behaviour. Much later a grudging apology from Tommy is made to Angela in the Rovers - but he soon start going off on one about Katie.

Jack and Les at the bar of the Rovers are talking horses - Jack has found a horse which the bookies (being run by the dangerous double crossed duo of dumb blondes) appear to have mispriced and it is bound to come in a winner - tipped in all the papers. Ciaran drags himself off his mobile (he is trying to warn Peter Barlow of events at the bookies) and "borrows" fifty quid from the till which Les and Jack seek to invest on the dead cert.

Tracy attends the flat and Roy gives her some lotion to ease the stretch marks, she is almost touched by the thought for all of ... about a second. Hayley arrives and Roy is much relieved (well you would want a witness present if dealing with Tracy too!). Roy explains their concerns and admits they do not trust Tracy. She asks if they want a contract. Indeed they do - a marriage contract - so ... Tracy will you marry me? This is beautifully done, he is holding Hayley's hands and is looking directly into Hayley's eyes as he speaks - we all know whom he loves. Tracy is having none of it - her one word answer of "No" is loud enough and makes it clear that she is not going to be involved.

Back at Rovers Les and Jack are in trouble - the horse came nowhere. Ciaran thinks they are joking and then starts worrying about the missing cash from the till. One of the dangerous blondes (Shelley) lets the boys (and boyo) in on a secret. The horse owner buys flowers from Lucy and hence they knew it was not running well. Shelley thinks Ciaran knows where Peter is and despite his denials keeps giving him the third degree over secrets. He starts having some concerns - after all the till is £50 short.

Roy and Hayley discuss the situation. They need to decide precisely what they are gong to say to Tracy and how they are gong to deliver it - almost the same sort of planning I used to put into dealing with Trade Union reps. Money talks and that is the only language Tracy understands. So either she marries Roy or the deal will be off, Hayley decides which to be honest Roy does not seem to enjoy the thought at all.

Ciaran has to borrow £50 from Sunita to make the till straight at the Rovers - and on his wages her chances of recovery are pretty limited.

Maya is summoned by her mobile back to the office and the lunch is cut short - and much to Dev's displeasure - although he gets an indication that there will be another date - although on her terms - she will call him - not the treatment that Dev's women usually give him!

And finally Roy and Hayley knock on the Barlow's door. Hayley delivers the ultimatum which might have stood more chance of success if delivered at the point of a shotgun. Tracy is having none of it. The deal is off and she slams the door. Roy, Hayley get out there before she changes her mind again.

And going back to where I started - the Katie story might be bearable if it were not for the completely unbelievable (in the UK at least) of a father treating a 17 year old like that. It will not work with their current education and knowledge - a real nonsense story which does not wash and no redeeming features, unlike the ones mentioned above for Roy, Hayley and Tracy.

Hope this reaches everyone!

Sunday 19 October

Monday 20 October

We begin in the Harris's kitchen at breakfast time. Ange uses the last of a carton of milk on her cornflakes. Tommy asks if there's any more, and Ange asks why, will he hit her if there isn't? It's a not very subtle reference to his bundle in the pub with Les Battersby the night before. Tommy reckons Les was asking for it, and even Craig chips in with his opinion that Les deserved a smack. Angie wonders if they think that a punch in the mouth solves everything. She was trying to build bridges, but he put paid to that. Tommy thinks they should just go back to ignoring Katy and the perv. altogether.

Over at Martin and Katy's flat, they are talking about the events of the previous evening too. She is disgusted, everyone was making an effort then her Dad had to pick a fight. Martin tells her that Les would drive a saint to violence. Katy reckons the best thing is to have nothing to do with them. Martin says he's not arguing.

At the Barlow's, Deirdre is being very cool with Peter. She asks him what his plans are, and he tells her he wants to sort things out with Shelley and Lucy before he gets sent down. She thinks he wants to get them to drop the charges but he tells her no, he did the crime so he'll do the time, his brief thinks he could get six months. As he lights a cigarette, Deirdre tells him he'll have to stop smoking in the house. Then she realises that Ken hasn't told him. He thinks it's her who's pregnant at first but she tells him it's not her.......then Tracy walks in. Peter puts two and two together - 'Not you and Roy Cropper?' he gasps, 'Flamin' 'ell Trace!'

In the back room of the pub Shelley and Lucy are talking about Shelley going back to the police to add to her statement. Lucy thinks Peter will try to stop her. Bev comes in and tells Lucy to credit her daughter with more sense, and Peter won't try anything with Bev there. Shelley gets annoyed and tells them she doesn't need anyone to hold her coat while she sorts that rat out.

Peter and Tracy are talking. She tells him she's glad he's back, it keeps Ken and Deirdre off her back. He comments wryly that they've not really been a credit to them, have they? Tracy sarcastically remarks that of course, they're parents to look up to, but Peter tells her its about time they can't keep blaming them, they have to take responsibility for their own lives. Peter is still incredulous at Tracy's condition and who the father is. 'What were you thinkin'?' he asks, 'were you on something? Well, not the pill, obviously!' She tells him she's off to drive a taxi and he wonders if there's anything else he's missed. She points out his two wives are running the bookies! He asks what she's going to do with the baby, is she going to keep it? She tells him Roy and Hayley were going to bring it up, but are not now. He's glad, he thinks Roy is a 50 yr. old weirdo who walks round carrying a shopping bag and is married to a transsexual called Howard. She corrects him, it's Harold. Anyway, (and she brightens up a bit here) now the plan is for her, Ken and Deirdre to bring it up together.

Out in the street, Tommy sees Angela come out of the factory. He calls her and offers to buy her a drink. She declines and hurries on with Fizz and Hayley. Hayley sees Roy coming and rushes over to him, he suggests to Hayley that they take a break and go away, maybe to Rome. Hayley points out that they couldn't do that with a family.

Fizz, Karen and Ange are walking along the street. They meet Les, who reckons he would have knocked Tommy into next week if it didn't mean he would go back inside.

Kirk is seen approaching, being taken for a walk by four King Charles spaniels on leads. His parents run a kennels (funny, they used to breed greyhounds didn't they? That's where Tyrone got Monica from) Kirk wonders if they mind dogs going in the Rovers. Les suddenly realises that the smell he always thought was Kirk is actually the dogs. Fizz goes off for one of Betty's hotpots, declining the offer of a romantic walk with Kirk and the canines. Les tries to get Kirk to go with him to the Weatherfield Arms, apparently they have great barmaids, but Kirk is dragged off by the dogs.

Deirdre bumps into Roy and Hayley. The atmosphere is a little awkward, so Hayley tells her they're thinking of going on a holiday. She also asks how Tracy is. Deirdre tells them she is coming to terms with it all, and now the plan is for them all to share in the baby's upbringing. Deirdre is glad about that, she thinks a child should be with it's mother.

Peter walks into his betting shop. Lucy is working there behind the counter. He suggests he takes over now, to save her the work. She declines his offer. He points out that she's a florist, she tells him he's a bigamist. She's says she's protecting her interests. She threatens to call the police. He tells her fine, it's a licensed betting office, he holds the license, one phone call and they would close her down. (At last, some sense is coming in!) Lucy departs.

In the pub the factory girls are buying drinks. Karen, (her head full of her own wedding) asks Bev if she knows any wedding planners. Bev wonders if she's trying to be funny? Bev tells her she'll find her a wedding planner if Karen will find her a hit man.

Angela and Hayley are talking about Hayley's possible forthcoming holiday. Ange comments sarcastically that Hayley looks really thrilled. Like when Tommy offered to buy Ange a drink, Hayley responds. She asks Ange if Tommy and Katy used to be very close. Ange says it was enough to make her jealous sometimes. Then she makes up her mind, she's going to go and see Katy and if Tommy doesn't like it he can lump it.

Les is in the Weatherfield Arms, chatting up the barmaid. He tells her he's a talent scout with a record company, come to check out that evening's karaoke. His story gets taller by the minute as he tells her he discovered Lisa Stansfield and 'the Quo'. She tells him excitedly that she's a singer, and is singing tonight. He could tell, she has an 'orka' round her....she asks does he mean an aura? He introduces himself as Clint, as in Eastwood, and she's Lulu. She asks if he knows Sting. He tells her that he and the police have quite a history!

Katy and Craig are walking down the street, approaching the garage, and the Harris's house. He tells her Ange slept in the spare room last night, she was so cross with Tommy. He doesn't want to talk to her where Tommy can see them, and walks on ahead.

Ashley meets Claire carrying Joshua out in the street. She's on her way to get something for his tea. He tells her not to bother, he's got to work late and could she stay on and keep an eye on Joshua? She agrees willingly.

Dev, in the taxi office, is on the phone to Maya. He asks if it's still on for tonight. She obviously asks who is calling. Tracy hoots with laughter. Les comes in to tell Steve he's not available tonight, he's got a date. Steve points out he's not available any night, he's got a curfew. Dev starts extolling the virtues of satellite navigation. Steve remarks that they haven't even got ten cars. Dev says it will be an investment. Eileen wonders how Steve can afford all this, along with the wedding planner. Dev tells him he should put his foot down, so Steve tells him he thinks the satellite navigation system is not worth it. Dev says he meant Steve to be firm with Karen, but Steve says that compared to telling Karen not to spend money like confetti, telling Dev is easy.

Peter comes up behind Shelley as she's putting empty bottles in the bin at the Rovers. He asks if she'll talk. She tells him she's having their sham of a marriage declared null and void, to add this humiliation to all the others, and asks if he realises just how humiliated she has been. He tells her, of course he does. She tells him this will be their last ever conversation, she's going back to the police station to add to her statement. He doesn't blame her, but he tells her he meant every word of their marriage service, he really does want to spend the rest of his life with her. She tells him it was a nice try, but won't work. He leaves.

Les is getting ready for his (very short) evening out. Fizz asks if the woman at the pub really believes he's a talent scout called Clint. She tells him that she tells a lot of people she's going out with a wild animal trainer, but the trouble is most people know it's Kirk. Kirk hears and says there's nothing wrong with being him, King of the Kennels, and he meets some right tasty women when he's walking dogs. He's trying on Les's jacket, and Les gets it takes it off him. Fizz tells Les his snake jacket is naff, but Les takes no notice. Anyway, he's going in the pub early and leaving at 7pm, telling the barmaid he has to go somewhere else. He asks if Kirk will go with him, but Kirk reckons he always gets the mate who doesn't look good. Fizz tells him he should say no because he's faithful to her, and anyway, if she caught him playing away she's put him in traction. Kirk looks decidedly nervous!

Shelley and Lucy are talking about what she will say at the police station. Lucy bets he will be furious when he finds out they have taken the money from the safe. Shelley isn't at all sure they should have taken it. Lucy tells her to remember, it's time he paid.

Angela goes to visit Katy. Katy opens the door and says she wishes it was the Jehovah's Witnesses, but Ange says she's here to say sorry so Katy lets her in.

At the station, Shelley is talking to the policeman. He tells her the CPS are about to make a decision. She asks if it's too late to add to her statement. He asks if she can spell out the full extent of the emotional damage she suffered, that's what he needs to put Peter behind bars. Shelley tells him she's got plenty to tell.

That's all for now....episode 2 will follow shortly...........but first I need to get some sleep!

Hi everyone....here is Episode 2

In the police station Shelley is preparing to make her new statement.

Katy and Angie are talking in the flat. Angela doesn't want to lose Katy, she misses her. Katy misses her mum too. They hug and decide they are going to be friends. Katy wonders how it is going to work out with her dad, but they decide it will just have to be behind his back. Katy wonders if her dad will ever accept her and Martin, but Angie tells her to take it one step at a time.

Les meets Tyrone in the street and, telling him he's got a red hot date for that evening, tries to persuade Ty to come along for her mate. Tyrone is worried that she's the ugly one no one wants, and will be old enough to be his mum, but Les tells him that Gaynor Slack is a little belter and he should taste the delights of a mature woman!

Norris meets Ashley walking up the street. Ashley tells him he's got to work late, doing the accounts and the VAT at the shop. Norris tells him that he will help out if Claire wants to go home, but Ashley assures him that Claire doesn't mind staying on, in fact she's been practically living there while his dad's been away. (Foolish words, Ashley!) Norris immediately pricks up his ears and raises his eyebrows!

Shelley, meanwhile, is still at the police station, and is told that there's nothing in her new statement that adds to what they already know.

Norris has reached the pub, and is now talking to Martin. He tells Martin that Ashley is lucky to have Claire, and how she's been working late there on a regular basis....hint hint. He wonders, whether, with Martin being close to Ashley he might know something? Martin leans forward, saying that actually he does know something.......that Norris is a nosey old woman who should keep his nose out of other people's business!

Peter comes into the pub but Bev won't serve him, so he leaves.

Steve and Tracy come in, talking about how her 'knowledge' (for taxi driving) is improving, but she shouldn't drive over speed bumps at 40 mph. Tracy orders wine, and Roy, who is a short distance away hears it all. When Steve goes off he comes over and complains about the way she is behaving. She reminds him that the deal is now off....unless he's having second thoughts?

Bev asks Ciaran to manage on his own, she wants to go down to the police station and give Shelley some support. Down at the station, Shelley is still talking to the policeman, but fails to add anything any more incriminating about Peter. The policeman asks if Peter's been violent or been making threats, Shelley tells him no, nothing like that. Suddenly she changes her mind, she doesn't want to proceed, her original statement is all they need to know.

Les and Tyrone walk into the Weatherfield Arms. Tyrone sees the two women and chickens out, he leaves in a hurry. Gaynor is rather put out that now she hasn't got a date and leaves, she's off to the Feathers.

Bev meets up with Shelley as she comes out of the interview room. Shelley doesn't tell Bev that she didn't alter her statement.

Back in the Weatherfield Arms, Les and Lulu are chatting. Les is telling tall stories about his time with Human League and Adam and the Ants. He tells her all was great until the late 80's when the 'suits' moved in. He's now trawling the pubs looking for the next Elkie Brooks. Lulu thinks he may have found her. Les explains that he's off somewhere else at 7pm (really its curfew time!) so she invites him to her place for a 'private audition'!

Peter is knocking on the door at Lucy's and when she opens it, rushes up the stairs demanding to see his son. He realises that it was all down to her that Shelley went back to the police station. Lucy tells him that she and Shelley are friends and it's only a matter of time until they get what they want, him in prison.

Ashley has arrived home and asks Claire if she's like to stay for a glass of wine, the house is quiet with Fred away. She agrees.

Over at the Rovers, Tyrone comes in, straight from the Weatherfield Arms. Fizz and Kirk demand to know where he's been, and Kirk tells him Les tried to palm him off with Gaynor. Fizz wants to know what Les's bird is like, but Ty didn't get a good look at her, still she'll meet her eventually, when Les brings her home.

Lucy calls on Shelley to find out what happened at the police station. Shelley tells her the police took a new statement. Lucy tells her that Peter went round there, although he said it was to see Simon. Lucy is very vitriolic and wants Peter to stay in prison and rot, Shelley doesn't look so sure.

Les meets Tyrone outside the chippy. Les is full of himself, and tells Ty that within 10 minutes they had gone back to Lulu's place, and it is straight into the action with that type of totty!

Ciaran and Peter are talking in the doorway about whether Peter will go to prison or not. Peter comments that Lucy has put Shelley up to making another statement, and that she's got a mind like poison. Ciaran tries to be supportive, telling Peter how he just got into a terrible mess, and there's far worse than him out there. Then Peter's mobile phone rings. He takes the call and then thanks the caller for telling him. He then comment to Ciaran that they will soon find out.......

Tracy and Steve are at the bar when they see Dev and his new lady walk past. Tracy comments that he's got it all now, true love and satellite navigation!

Bespectacled Dev has taken Maya to the Rovers. (He sure knows how to spoil a girl!) She asks him if he takes all his women there. He says he brings people he likes there, it's honest and unpretentious. She tells him that most men try to impress by taking a girl to somewhere upmarket on a first date, then, when they're hooked they take them somewhere like the Rovers. He says he likes to do things the other way round.

Karen comes in and goes over to Steve and Tracy. She tells Steve that the latest thing in the USA is to have a wedding wall. A designer paints a wall and they stand in front of it to have photos taken, so she wants one. Steve says no, and they start to have a bit of a heated discussion. Tracy remarks that there won't be a wedding at all the way they're going. Karen asks her what she knows about it, and Tracy replies that they're always rowing. Karen says it's not rowing, just negotiation and they start a bit of playful fooling around. Tracy's jealous face is a picture! Steve whispers something in Karen's ear and they go off together, leaving Tracy looking less than pleased.

Claire and Ashley are sitting on the sofa at Ashley's house, discussing nursery education for Joshua. It's late, Claire has to go, so she asks Ash to call her a taxi, she doesn't want to walk at that late hour. He says she might as well stay the night, in the spare room, seeing as how she's got to come straight back in the morning. She says yes, and goes off to phone her mum. (What a good girl!)

Peter goes to see Shelley in the back room of the pub. He asks how her visit to the police went, did Lucy give her some tips? He says that even without her second visit to the police, he might still go down, according to his brief. She tells him that he'll deserve all he gets. He tells her that he'll always love her, no matter where he ends up. He wants her to remember that. He leaves, and Shelley, who seems to be softening, cries.

Wednesday 22 October

Evening all!

Tonight's episode begins with Claire, in dressing gown bringing in the milk at Ashley's house, this is unfortunately seen by Norris who wastes no time in rushing across to Rita to tell her that Claire and Ashley have seemingly spent the night together. Norris is sure romance is in the air!

Meanwhile at Ken and Deirdre's Peter has spent an uncomfortable night - sitting there in his dressing gown, he has to go to the police station to find out what his fate will be - will he be prosecuted or not? Its looking like a fashion parade for dressing gowns as Ken and Deirdre come down the stairs also in dressing gowns etc. Peter knows Shelley has made another statement and wonders what effect that will have. Peter is convinced he will end up in prison. Ken volunteers to go to the police station with Peter.

At the Rovers Peter is also the item of conversation between Bev, Shelley and Sunita, Shelley does not look happy.

At the taxi firm Dev is leaving a message for Maya, Tracy hears the end of this and snipes at Dev who then leaves after hearing the astounding revelation that Tracy was in a vulnerable state when she and Dev got together. Steve then gives Tracy the benefit of some marital guidance stating Karen and himself as role models. more sniping now between Tracy and Karen, Tracy then leaves. Karen has bought another wedding magazine which she wants Steve to look at as she has seen an outfit for him that she likes.

Fred has returned Ashley and Claire are having a cup of tea and something to eat, Fred is back early so he didn't have to sit next to Petula Peach on the coach! Fred asks for news none to talk about so Fred gets meat from shop or convention? under grill.

Peter and Ken are leaving to go to the police station to find out what will happen to him, Deirdre is seeing them off Tracy is also hanging around at the time.

At Les's place he is a world of his own as Kirk and Fiz are having their lunch, Les is describing his new paramour Lulu - Les reckons he is fantastic (hands up who is going to tell him the truth!). Fiz has had enough of Les and decides to go back to the factory for the rest of her lunch.

Dev has left another message for Maya - sounds a bit panicky - is someone giving Dev the runaround? Sunita seems highly delighted that Dev is not getting things his way.

At the Kabin Fred is regaling Norris about the trip he just made, Norris then proceeds to ask Fred what is going on with Ashley and Claire an "item". Fred of course knows nothing of this and there is "nothing" Norris of course is sure that wedding bells will be ringing shortly!

At the police station Peter, his brief and Ken having been waiting for the news for over an hour as to what will happen to him. The policeman then comes in to go through the papers....

Fred arrives back home and tries a bit of fishing to find out if there is anything going on between Claire and Ashley, Fred it seems, would not be disappointed if something was going on.

Peter and Ken have arrived back home, neither of them seem very happy, Deirdre is waiting on the doorstep for them. Both go in without letting Deirdre know what has happened.

At Martins flat Katy has invited her mother round, Martin decided it would be best if he was not there, Martin is quite happy for any of there family to turn up including Tommy - no chance of that I think!

Lucy has turned up at the Rovers to hear what will happen to Peter, Shelley looks quite nervous, Lucy asks Bev if Shelley is ok. Lucy has really got the knife in for Peter.

Les is enjoying an evening of passion with Lulu when he realizes he has only got twenty minutes to get home, nearly curfew time - Lulu does not know about Les's criminal record and wants him to stay to continue with their night of passion. Les cannot find both his shoes!

Deirdre meanwhile is preparing dinner Ken has gone out for a walk and Peter tells Deirdre that he is going to the Rovers to tell Shelley what the verdict is.

Katy and mother are having a cozy meal together, they decide that these meetings are the only way at present that they can see each other.

Les has arrived back home just in time! Fiz and Kirk are watching tele together. Les has come home in his socks, one shoe is in his jacket the other with Lulu, a reason to see her again?

At the Rovers Steve and Tracy are having a drink together, Karen then comes in and manhandles Steve away from Tracy.

Rita and Fred are also there and Rita in her own way is trying to find out if there is a relationship developing between Ashley and Claire.

Outside the pub Peter is plucking up courage to go and tell Shelley his news - Peter enters and is given the cold shoulder by Bev who asks Shelley if she wants him thrown out as he is barred, Shelley says no and Peter asks Shelley if he tell tell her in the back, Lucy returns from the rest room here and looks highly delighted to see Peter. Shelley is not going to let Peter tell her what has happened in private - Lucy and Shelley are standing together at the bar when Peter tells them that the Crown Prosecution Service will not be prosecuting him and he had had a caution. Lucy cannot believe this especially after Shelley has made her new statement.

here it ends until the next time!

Friday 24 October

Hallo again. Many kind notes following last week's update and I have earned a return visit for a period. If you can do this as well as me feel free to offer to take over ...

Meanwhile in the back streets of Weatherfield our vision commences at the Barlows. Peter (who has been given the lightest possible treatment by the CPS and will not be formally prosecuted; I have no personal experience of bigamy but am very surprised that he has not been taken to court, however) has decided that he can no longer face the blonde harpies and has decided to move away from town once he has sold up. He cannot face the ongoing criticism and his business has been harmed. Ken is disappointed - he wants to have Peter around.

Lucy turns up at the Rovers - she wants to see her solicitor - can Shelley babysit for an hour or two. And she departs before Shelley can argue!

Over at the butchers Ashley asks if Fred minds Claire staying for supper - and Fred responds that he had heard she stayed over whilst he was away. Ashley explains the Claire is just a friend and nothing more, so that's all right then.

Martin has broken his indicator light on the car and asks Kev to repair it. Kev, who is barely polite, has to order it in. The two old friends are very distant at present. Kev is also having to put up with Rosie's bid for stardom.

Steve quizzes Tracy over routes around town - she clearly does not have the faintest idea of her home town (I know how she feels - I visited Southampton yesterday {we won 2-0} and felt sure that the traffic never used to be that bad)! He tells her to go our and about with Les or Patrick, although her face would appear to prefer Steve's personal service.

Peter sneaks (how?) into the back of the Rovers where he immediately runs into Shelley to tell her that he will be leaving town for good but Simon hears his voice and starts making a noise which Peter recognises and pushes past Shelley into the back room to see his son. He picks up Simon and Shelley looks ever more worried, knowing that Lucy is due back. Peter knows that he has lost badly and he is sorry. Shelley tells him it is spilt milk - which reminds her that it is feeding time, so Peter insists on feeding his son. Simon (allegedly) immediately brings it back and Shelley grabs a wet wipe to mop up. The two of them are cooing round the baby when Lucy appears in the background and takes in the instant happy family scene and she takes it very badly indeed. Lucy snaps that she wants her baby several times very loudly, she also claims that she thought she could trust Shelley as she storms out.

At the Weatherfield Arms (a somewhat run down public house where Lulu works) Lulu and the blonde friend are discussing "Clint" and his sudden departure. A stranger / regular wanders past and admits to knowing the man slobbering all over Lulu in recent days - he is called Les and he is a taxi driver at StreetCars.

If you have once been married to a tall stick insect who was bludgeoned to death in your front room would you have moved house? Luckily Ashley has more sense and he and Claire get ready to settle down (to dinner - nothing more yet ...) and oddly there is a half bottle of wine left over in the fridge - never happens in our house I tell you, so later events are alcohol induced.

Peter has returned home and tells Ken he has changed his mind. He wants to be a part of Simon's life even if the blonde bombshells keep exploding all around him.

And who is this arriving at Streetcars - the delightful Lulu who appears to have inherited the Janice Battersby gob as well as the man as she tears into "Clint" as she returns the shoe found on top of the wardrobe. They depart into the Street as Steve kills himself laughing over "Clint". Outside (and it looks a lot later than 7pm) Les explains the tagging, his jail sentence and asks for a second chance. Lulu is not happy - he has made her feel like a fool.

Claire and Ashley enjoy dinner and then sit down, as friends to finish off the wine. Why won't people accept that they are and can be just friends and not lovers?

Lucy stalks into the Rovers. Being a blonde it has taken her some time to work out that perhaps Shelley did not tell the police the agreed text. After all Shelley did tell the police enough to put Peter away didn't she? Shelley tries not to answer the question and Lucy just stares in her normal demented fashion across the bar. Eventually Shelley gives in. She did not add to her original statement and she is fed up with these discussions. Time for Lucy to go off on one - which she does. She believes that Shelley has betrayed her just as much as Peter has.

In the background at the Rovers during this Kev and Sal arrive and the latter talks the former into sitting down with Martin and Katie. Inane chatter follows, although the girls are not exactly best buddies but Kev and Martin stand up to get another round in. Katie asks Sal if she was flirting with Martin. Don't need to she replies been there, done that, got the T-shirt and the baggage. It would appear that this is news to Katie who looks over again at Martin.

Back at the Peacocks Ashley and Claire are far more relaxed. She really feels part of the family now and is really settled with Gary out of the picture. Ashley offers her a "big hug" and just as they break they hold - a little longer - look in each other's eyes and then kiss.

When he gets home Les gets a chance to bewail the loss of Lulu to Fiz and Kirk. And in the Rovers Katie decides it is time to check up on Martin's love life - well he is 35 and there must be something. He does not admit that one of them decided to join East Enders and marry Phil Mitchell - but then would you?

And then after a few seconds they look at each other as if looking at their worst nightmare. Both instantly believe they are to blame, Ashley feels disloyal to Maxime whilst Claire feels responsible for making Ashley feel disloyal. Both move onto regret at damaging something important and Claire feels that she has let her professional standards slip - she must leave for good and Ashley reluctantly agrees.

Which raps it up for tonight. And I will leave you with a question. Over in CSVU Lucy is described as a "bunny boiler" - a reference to the Glenn Close character in a film (9.5 weeks I think). What were such women called before that film appeared - based on Lucy I can only suggest Bad, Mad and Dangerous to know.

Goodnight.

Sunday 26 October

Hello everyone.

I hope you all got my apologies for last week.

Hopefully you all get this report without any hassles.

Fred was cooking Sunday dinner, when Claire arrived to talk with Ashley. However Fred was always coming back & forward into the room, making it difficult to get the feelings sorted out between the two.

Steve & Karen where bragging to Angela & Janice about having an extra hour in bed, then arranged to meet them in the Rovers later. Just across the road was Lucy, who was heading into the pub. Bev was not happy to see her & would not allow her to see Shelly until it was confirmed ok. Shelly agreed & came through. The discussion got heated with Lucy calling Shelly weak minded & basically a mug for not telling the police, so Peter would be jailed. Again Shelly threw her out.

Eventually Claire & Ashley both agreed that she didn't have to leave, & that they can move on from the kiss. (Watch this space) Roy & Hayley went to find Tracy in the Rovers to discuss the deal. However she was at the cab office talking to Steve about the residents making jokes about the wedding arrangements.

Lulu contacted Les to meet up for another date. She decided to forgive Les for lying about who he really is. Tyrone got wind of this & gathered Fizz & Kirk to follow Les to meet his new woman.

Meanwhile, Lucy visited Peter at the Bookies, asking him to come to the flat to see Simon. Peter was a little stunned & puzzled as to what Lucy was up to. But being given a chance to see his son, Peter decided to go. At the flat, Lucy stirred things more, by contacting Shelly to tell her that Peter was with her to see Simon. Shelly wasn't pleased & hung up on her. Peter then grabbed Lucy by the throat & told her that he could kill her right now. She dared him to do it, & he backed off, walking out of the flat. She told him not to bother seeing Shelly because she would never believe a word she says.

Fizz was shocked to see Les's date Mum she said. Les was also gobsmacked for a change. The scene was set for yet another showdown at the Rovers. Peter asked to see Shelly. She came through & told Peter she wasn't interested in what he had to say. Bev asked Ciaran to throw Peter out but he refused, saying he was a mate. Eventually Shelly said he could stay as long as he didn't tell her anymore lies.

Lucy walked in surprised to see Peter still in the Rovers. She flung lots of insults at Shelly who then got the pair of them through the back. Lucy said that Peter came to the flat to get back with her again, & she told him no way. Peter defended himself confusing Shelly. However, Shelly decided to believe Peter & told Lucy to get out, & told her she was doing this all for revenge which Shelly didn't want to be a part of.

Lucy walked out of the pub with a face full of anger. Who knows what she will do next, with her hateful mind.

Monday 27 October

Hi everyone here is Episode 1 of tonight's two episodes.

We begin at the Barlow's house at breakfast time. Ken and Deirdre are talking about their plan for a day out, Deirdre asks Peter if he's working today but Peter says he'd be afraid to set foot outside the door in case Lucy pounces on him. Ken thinks she must feel pretty foolish in the cold light of day, but Peter isn't so sure, and anyway, he's convinced she won't ever let him see Simon again. Tracy comes downstairs, to be greeted by a sarcastic Deirdre wishing her good afternoon.

Over in Lucy's flat, her friend Mandy has just arrived and is shocked to find Lucy writing 'poison pen' letters to Peter, and planning another one to Shelley. Lucy reckons it's only a matter of time until they're back together and living happily ever after. Her friend points out that she doesn't know that, and even so, where is her dignity?

Back at the Barlow's, Tracy has opened the bill from her solicitor following her divorce from Robert. It's for four hundred pounds, and if she pays it she will be absolutely skint. She asks if Ken and Deirdre can help her out. Ken tells her they are in the same boat as her and Deirdre points out that it wasn't long ago that she was blowing money on a Caribbean holiday. Tracy says that they promised to help her through her pregnancy, and she gets no sympathy from anyone round there. They all agree!

At the Cropper's, Roy and Hayley are discussing their next move. Roy thinks they should give Tracy extra money with extra conditions.

At Les's house, Fizz is wondering why her mother, Cilla, is going round calling herself Lulu, and Les tells her it's her stage name. Fizz thinks LooLoo would be more appropriate considering her career went down the toilet, and she doesn't want her round there, Fizz came to live round there to get away from her mother, she hates her guts, she's a cow. Les gets cross and reminds Fizz she's talking about his girlfriend. Fizz tells Les she's not suitable, she's using Les, she's a tart, and if she comes round there Fizz will be as far away as possible. She storms out, leaving Kirk to wonder if he and Les could get them both on Jerry Springer.......

Deirdre and Ken are on the doorstep of their house, Deirdre is getting excited about the coming baby, while Ken hates seeing Peter so upset about Simon.

The Croppers meet Tracy in the street, they tell her they've been looking for her. She remarks that she knew they'd come crawling back. They just want to talk things through, which Tracy thinks is a waste of time until Roy tells her they have a new proposal for her which involves extra money.

Claire is arriving for work at Ashley's. They are both very awkward with each other, and she says she'll go if he prefers, but Ashley doesn't prefer, so she tells him she'll take over so he can get off to work. They notice that baby Joshua has knocked his cup onto the table and both go to pick it up at the same time, touching hands. They are both very embarrassed by this, and Ashley goes off to work.

Tracy and Steve are in the taxi office when Karen rushes in, she's found the perfect venue for their wedding, but so has Steve. His face falls when he looks at her brochure, Wolcott Manor - sounds expensive. Her face falls when she looks at his brochure, Maudley's Guest House - sounds inexpensive!

Shelley and Bev are in the pub, hoping Lucy doesn't show her face again. Bev suggests a Hallowe'en party, good for business. Shelley's not so sure. Peter comes in, Bev is very anti him being there, but Shelley takes a softer line, as long as he stays that side of the bar she'll serve him. While Bev gets his drink Peter talks to Shelley and thanks her for taking his side against Lucy. Shelley tells him she didn't, she just didn't believe Lucy. Bev puts his drink down hoping it chokes him! (Wonderful sentiments for a barmaid!)

At the Croppers, Tracy arrives. Roy starts to explain that he feels they've been hasty, Tracy complains that they never trusted her, Roy feels it was unreasonable of them to expect marriage, so they offer her an extra 5,000 pounds to get the arrangement back on. She tells them it has to be 10,000 pounds, although Roy isn't sure he can raise that sort of substantial sum. She tells them they've got til half past six that evening to give her their answer.

In the Rover's, Karen and Steve are reading their brochures. Steve prefers his choice, a ten minute bus ride from the town centre, with tea making facilities in every room and an 'all you can eat' buffet for 9 pounds. He tells her they can't afford Wolcott Manor, it's out of their league. She says they only want to hire it for one day, it won't be all that expensive.

Over at another table, Roy and Hayley are discussing whether they should give in to Tracy's latest demand. Roy feels they will pay her the 10k, if they can raise it. Hayley remarks wryly that the money they're splashing out on this baby makes Karen McDonald look prudent.

Les and Lulu (Cilla) come in. Les is full of bonhomie, telling Cilla how well known and loved he is at his local. He makes a big show of greeting everyone, even kissing Hayley's hand! He introduces her to Shelley, and says he'll have his usual. Shelley doesn't know what his usual is. He spots Janice coming out of the ladies, and warns Cilla that she's obsessed with him, can't let go. Janice says hello, as she passes, and goes out the door. Les reckons the Prozac must have kicked in, Cilla wishes her daughter was on it.

Ashley and Fred arrive home at the end of the working day. Claire already has her coat on ready for a quick departure, but Fred tries to persuade her to stay for her tea. She refuses politely so he insists she stay for a drink. She reluctantly agrees, quickly refusing a glass of wine and opting for orange juice instead. Fred tells the two of them to sit down while he gets the drinks and she and Ashley sit down beside each other, rather awkwardly, on the sofa. Fred watches from the kitchen.....

Tracy and Peter are alone in the Barlow house. She doesn't want him moping about the place, she's in a good mood. He tells her he doesn't fall for her 'Poor Old Tracy' routine, and he hates watching her leech off his dad and Deirdre, he knows that if she had anywhere else to go she'd have gone. They start to squabble.

Over in the Rovers, Fizz and Kirk walk in. Fizz is dismayed to see her mum in there with Les, and starts to say she's leaving, but then thinks better of it, after all why should she be driven out of her local? She tells Les her mum is on the game, and she's a druggie and she also steals. Cilla says it's no wonder Fizz ended up in care, she's out of control. She tells Les the only game she plays is bingo and the only drugs are tablets for her nerves. That's why Fizz ended up in care, to give her a rest. Les thinks she's had a hard life, that must be why they were drawn to each other. (I think they probably deserve each other, which isn't quite the same thing!)

Lucy's friend Mandy is about to depart. Mandy tells Lucy she has to move on, but Lucy is bitter and feels she's been taken for a ride by both of them. Just as Mandy is going, Ken arrives asking if he can speak to Lucy.

Back at the Barlow's, Peter and Lucy are continuing their discussion. Peter tells her he never set out to hurt anyone. Tracy tells him not to take the moral high ground, what he did was actually worse, but Peter reckons that sleeping with a man for a bet, especially Roy Cropper, and trying to split up his marriage was worse than anything he did. At least Peter showed remorse, but she delights in the misery of other people, she's inhuman.

At the Cropper's, Roy is on the phone making an appointment with the bank manager about borrowing money. He's upset at having to bribe Tracy so he can bring up his own child.

Peter apologises to Tracy for the things he said to her. Tracy says he's right, she is a nasty piece of work, she's made such a mess of her life, just one long list of disasters. Peter tells her that Roy is a good man, he'll do right by her. Tracy tells him he wouldn't say that if he knew the truth. Peter asks 'What truth?' She makes him promise he will never breathe a word to anyone and tells him it's not Roy's baby. Peter asks her who's baby it is. Come on Tracy...who?

End of episode 1

Anne Logan

Hi everyone, here is Margaret Carr's excellent first report for us, Episode 2 from Monday.

Episode Two:

The Barlow living room: Tracey tells Peter that the whole time she was with Robert there was no sign of a pregnancy, even though she took chances with other men. She blamed it on living with someone else's kidney. "I used to think of myself as being on the Pill. It just happened to be an anti-rejection pill." Peter presses her to tell him who the father is and Tracey confesses: It's Steve Macdonald's.

Lucy's flat. Simon is being rocked but is a bit grumpy. Perhaps he's just realised who his family is. Lucy tells Ken firmly that if he's come to plead Peter's case it's no use. Ken appeals to her not to cut Peter out of Simon's life. "The child needs to know who his father is."

Back at the Barlows', Tracey tells Peter she really liked Steve and thought the relationship was something worth working at, especially after Robert and Dev and all her other mistakes. So they spent the night together and the very next day he dumped her, she says. So why did she pretend the baby was Roy's? "I mean, if we're talking humiliation," says Peter, "I'd rather be dumped by Steve Macdonald than up the duff by Roy Cropper." "Because he was happy with Karen," Tracey explains. "Why cause them trouble when you've got the Croppers?" They love children but can't have any of their own. "So you said it was Roy's out of the goodness of your heart, did you?" asks Peter. "That's right, yeah."

At the bank, Roy and Haley are ushered into the bank manager's office. We can tell he's the bank manager because he's rubbing his hands together like Uriah Heep. Roy manages to stutter out the amount they'd like to borrow and the manager goes off to get their details. "He's never going to agree to that much," Roy says as soon as the manager is gone.

The Barlows' again and Tracey tells Peter about saving Shelley from the date-rape drug on Shelley's hen night, and how no-one believed her, thinking she was just jealous that the bloke had been showing interest in Shelley and not in her. "This filthy scumbag that I fancied, was prepared to drug a woman to get what he wanted and however desperate and pathetic he was, what he didn't want was me." Her self esteem was very low after that, "and there was Hayley 'freak show' Cropper giving me advice about relationships." Tracey tells Peter about the bet with Bev that all men were alike. She says Peter and Shelley's wedding was very romantic, but she knew it was all phony and a lie. She found the drug in her bag where she had forgotten about it after taking it off the bloke at the hen party. And she just wanted to get out of there because she was sick of the sight of loving couples. "So the next thing you know, it's Plink Plink Fizz, taxi for Cropper." She confesses that Roy couldn't even get his own clothes off, let alone get her pregnant. For a couple of minutes she felt like a winner. But then, having undressed Roy, she turned the light off and lay down next to him. She lay there in the dark, listening to his snoring, and cried herself to sleep. Tracey dismisses what might be seen as human feelings: "I was three weeks' pregnant by then -- that was probably something to do with it.

Peter is disgusted with her for letting people believe she and Roy had sex. But Tracey says she had only just found out she was pregnant and wasn't sure who the father was. She tells Peter how she "gave in" to Wally Bannister, whom she believed was wealthy. "He was a dirty, filthy-fingered old gardener! He conned me!" she says indignantly. Because she was planning on getting rid of the baby, she didn't put people right about not having sex with Roy because it didn't seem to matter. Then when the Croppers called her a monster and said men weren't interested in her, she wanted to destroy their cozy lives and lost her temper, telling Roy he had made her pregnant and she was going to get rid of it. "And then it just got out of hand. Hayley left him. Roy tried to kill himself. There was no going back."

Back in the Rovers, Les and Lulu (sorry, Cilla) are attempting to perform hands-free mutual tonsillectomies, to the disgust of Shelley. Steve tells Karen he doesn't want to talk about wedding venues any more and Karen suggests going home to practise for the honeymoon. "And we'll make them two look like Cliff Richard and Anne Widdecombe." She describes some of the lingerie she bought while out looking for her wedding-day underwear. "Let's go and have our own private Eurovision thong contest."

Peter and Tracey are still talking. He tells her that she must tell Roy the truth now. It'll hurt him too much to break the bond once he's seen the baby and believes it is his. Tracey admits that she is being paid to have the baby and is expecting the Croppers with the next installment at 6.30. She describes the baby as a curse and her punishment.

Bank in the bank we see the latest in bank interrogation techniques as the manager cross-examines the Croppers while playing with an hypnotic executive toy. Roy is mesmerized and seems quite unable to resist the questioning as they are asked about their recent finances -- extending their overdraft, making early withdrawals from their high-interest account: "Is there a problem I should know about?" The bank manager tells the Croppers he might be able to stretch to giving them five thousand pounds.

Tracey and Peter are STILL talking. She explains that if she gives the Croppers the baby it will have a loving home and she will have the money to start again somewhere else. Peter tells her that even though Steve Macdonald isn't interested in her, once he knows she's carrying his baby that will change. We see Tracey perk up at the thought. "What would you rather have? A lump sum and never see your baby again, or continuing financial and emotional support from Steve?" See Steve and tell him the truth, Peter urges. "See what he says -- he might surprise you."

Back in the pub, Kevin and Sally are discussing the fact that Rosie was late home without telling them. It turns out she went to an audition and has won a part in a production of "Grease". She's got the most important part. "What, the Olivia Newton-John part?" asks Kevin. "No, not that boring old bimbo part," says Sal. "Rizzo -- it's a much more demanding role. It's the star part!"

Around the corner Shelley has had enough and threatens to pour the ice bucket over Les/Clint and Cilla/Lulu. Tracey meets Karen and is told Steve is working the night shift. It's Tracey's fault, Karen says. "Steve's not going to carry you forever, Tracey."

Lucy's flat. Simon has fallen asleep. It's probably the sound of his grandfather going through the "If I'd been a better father..." speech again. "A child needs it's father," he drones on, and on and on and ... "Don't keep him away from his Dad." Lucy puts him straight. She points out that all over the country single women are bringing up children in loving, caring, safe environments "and not one would have benefited from being anywhere near the influence of Peter Barlow."

At Streetcars, Tracey and Steve are having a comfortable chat. For some reason he has suddenly taken to calling her Trace. He tries to get her to learn how to work the switch so he can have some time off, but she cunningly manipulates the conversation around to whether or not he and Karen want children. "Right now, I'd prefer a radio operator."

Over at No 1, the Croppers arrive late and Peter doesn't reveal where Tracey has gone.

Streetcars: Tracey and Steve are discussing their brief relationship. Tracey seems about to tell him the truth when the Croppers burst in. Outside, they explain they could only get five thousand pounds, but tell her that even though it's not as much as she wanted, it is extra to the amount they originally agreed. If they don't get the baby it would break their hearts. "Please, Tracey, accept the cheque."

But we have to wait to find out whether she does as the scene switches to the yards behind the Street. Peter has gone outside to smoke and hears a noise. He looks over the wall into the yard of the Rovers and sees Shelley. They have a brief conversation without angry or defensive words, but civil, and say goodnight. We see Peter looking pensively up at the night sky.

Tracey walks into the Streetcars office and reminds Steve of the conversation they were having earlier about Karen. "What do you want, Trace?" "If you want to go home to her, I'll work your shift." Steve goes to phone Karen and let her know that he'll be home as soon as he's shown Tracey what to do. We see Tracey unfold something. It is a cheque for five thousand pounds.

Wednesday 29 October

Hello Corrers fans

Tonight's episode begins with breakfast and Roy and Hayley's - Hayley is quiet as Roy is making breakfast, Roy wonders whether they are doing the right thing Hayley is happy with the arrangement that have made with Tracy although she is concerned that the arrangements are not out in the open.

Peter Barlow is not happy with Ken at going round to see Lucy and thinks this may jeopardize his chances to see Simon. Deirdre is cooking breakfast and Ken asks after Tracy - Peter also shows his concern for Tracy who comes down the stairs and quickly hides her cheque for £5000!

In the street Sally is telling Emily about "Grease" and that Rosie will be in it. Emily is not the best receptacle for this information as she has never heard of John Travolta (John who? only joking!!) Sally seems to be taking this assumed stage career of Rosie's quite seriously. Next we see Les and Kirk on the their way from Les's house. Les is in a good mood due to his new relationship unlike Kirk who is unable to enjoy the fruits of his relationship with Fiz as her mum is getting in the way.

Pete tries to speak to Steve but he is is a rush and drives off as Peter's phone rings - Lucy no less - she wants him to go to her flat and says she is calling a truce - she is not going to cause any more trouble - can she be believed?

Ashley is just getting ready for work as Fred feeds the nipper, Ashley wants to get out before Claire gets there, Ashley accuses Fred of interfering and tells him to keep quiet - which Fred does for the next scene with Claire as she turns up to babysit - not a bad achievement!

At the Kabin Sally is now boring Rita and Emily about "Grease" and Rosie, luckily we are spared too much of this as Hayley comes in and tells Tracy, who is by the magazines, how pleased she is about the arrangement they have made - Tracy suggests that they keep it quiet.

At the Rovers Shelley and Bev are discussing the forthcoming evening attraction when Fred bursts in going on about the non-relationship between Claire and Ashley.

Peter has arrived at Lucy's now and she seems quite human - did Ken and Deirdre's visit work? Lucy is happy with Peter seeing his son twice a week.

At the Rovers the girls from the factory are having lunch and discussing the forthcoming wedding between Steve and Karen. The talk gets round to babies and Hayley is amazed that Karen doesn't want to have a family. Janice thinks that Hayley would make a good mother and continues saying that it is a shame that she and Roy cannot have their own family. Oh dear - Hayley throws all sense to the wind and tells Janice, Fiz, Sonia and Karen that they are going to adopt Tracy's baby, who worse could she tell! The girls of course do not know that Tracy is pregnant and that Roy is the father - the expressions on their faces are something to behold especially Karen's!

Behind the bar Bev and Fred are talking about the Tarot card reader - quickly though we go back to the factory girls and Hayley wishes she hadn't said anything and gets them all to promise not to say anything to anybody.

Meanwhile the ghastly Les and his equally ghastly girlfriend are enjoying a pint - Lulu gets jealous when Les makes a comparison between Janice and Lulu, he manages to recover lost ground though.

Outside the factory Fiz is telling Kirk about how parasitic her mother can be and if will she be moving in with Les. Kirk however seems to showing more concern for his own unfulfilled needs - what turns Fiz in his favour is the fact that he has washed the sheets on his bed.....

Fred has been doing the cooking again and Claire is sampling the results when Ashley comes in. Fred makes a too obvious attempt to get Claire and Ashley together at the Halloween entertainments, Claire says that she will be looking after Joshua so she will not be able to go (I hope these two do get together eventually!) Ashley is getting annoyed with Fred's attempts at matchmaking.

Meanwhile Hayley has told an unbelieving Roy about what she has told the girls, he is for him quite angry, Hayley thinks though that by telling others it will make Tracy less liable to go back on the arrangement. Also Hayley was dying to let others know about the "adoption" and when Roy asks what their reaction to this Hayley says this was shock to start with, although Fiz and Janice were more supportive after the initial shock had worn off.

Back at the Rovers Shelley is asking Steve what the latest news is, Karen has picked a date in February, Peter then comes in and offers to buy Steve a pint, he is about to speak seriously to Steve when the rest of the Barlows come in. All seems quite friendly with the Barlows.

The girls from the factory are still there when Roy and Hayley come in, Janice goes over to the bar to ask them about how secret their secret is, Bev overhears this and asks what all this is about, Janice asks Hayley if it is ok to tell everyone. Janice then tells in shocked silence that Tracy is pregnant, Roy is the father and Tracy has agreed to let them have the baby!

Les is having a foot massage care of Lulu when Fiz and Kirk come - Fiz is not expecting to see her mother and goes back to her flat, Kirk tries to with some desperation to invite himself back as well - no chance here Kirk! Les offers the alternative of a cold bath.

Back at the Rovers Deirdre is quizzing Tracy about her decision to let Roy and Hayley have her baby (not being aware of the financial arrangement!) Deirdre seems to be more concerned about her plans to raise the baby.

Rita and Emily are talking to Roy and Hayley about the adoption and hope everything will work out ok.

Peter has just heard that Tracy has been paid £5000 to be Mrs Cropper!

That's all folks - back to the darkened room for a rest now!

Friday 31 October

Friday night is fright night this year as Corrie runs into Halloween and our heroes become seduced by their dark side as we shall see. And re-instating an old practice a reminder that events in Weatherfield are copyright ITV (soon to be ITV plc) and tonight were written by Daran Little and directed by Ian Bevitt and were sponsored by Cadbury's flake.

Somehow you know things are going to be different when you see Daran's name at the top of the episode and we go straight into a somewhat nasty American import - trick or treaters knocking on the front door at the Barlows. Tracy sticks her head out, bends down to kiddie height and summons the children to come closer. And then shouts at them to "Get Lost". This is obviously a woman with a deep and abiding love for children. She walks off - leaving the front door open!

Over at the Croppers Roy is looking for his bag, both of then are getting ready to go out - after all Tracy will be waiting. Hayley does her red anorak up and then holds hands with Roy, gets him to breathe deeply to calm him down. As Roy observes having a baby will be far more important than marrying Tracy - but - whilst he will not be lying to the registrar as he is not married he is worried about the words of the ceremony - he will have to love, honour and cherish Tracy and the only person that deserves that attention is Hayley. Roy removes his wedding ring and hands it to Hayley for safe keeping.

Outside Tracy and a taxi are waiting. Peter (who know about the baby's real father) tries to get Tracy to start telling the entire truth - it is not fair on Steve who deserves to know. Tracy observes Lucy knocking on the now closed door of the Barlows and Peter goes off to find out what one of his wives wants. Tracy was worried that Roy had got cold feet - but now he can make an honest woman of her and they all depart.

Dreary seems happy to see Lucy on her doorstep. Simon is asleep in the van and whilst Lucy and Peter arrange for the latter to look after him in the afternoon step-grandmother goes for a quick cuddle. Family innit (sorry wrong soap, will go and wash my mouth out). Lucy has stopped being psycho-woman and smiles at Peter who agrees. What is going on?

At the Rovers Bev and Fred are preparing a pumpkin when Shelley ushers in Terry the psychic tarot reader. She is early but she wants to be well prepared - a comfortable chair and good lighting! She recognises Shelley from the Rugby club (a typical Daran touch - a brief reminder of past history and just the sort of thing which does happen).

At the Registrar's Office she sees Roy first insisting that they see them separately and not together. She wants full details, particularly of any previous marriages. Roy stumbles over saying single as his marital status. Later the Registrar sees Tracy who confirms her divorced status. The notices are to be displayed and the wedding will be Monday 17 November. Tracy heads off for a drink and Hayley re-instates the wedding ring on Roy's finger.

At the Rovers Fred finds Terry getting focused - or as she calls it forty winks! Fred asks her to give Ashley a special reading - to stop the latter being held back romantically.

Peter is talking to Deirdre about Tracy. Deirdre thinks that the baby is part of Tracy and that makes it family - if she has been bringing up a baby it would have given her a purpose. Deirdre makes it clear that she would have liked a large family to have large Sunday lunches and that if she had stayed with Ray she would have had more children but it was not to be. Peter promises that Simon will be a part of the family and that she can be a grandmother.

After the break we are in the Rovers where most of the residents appear to be overdressed. Eileen is a witch and so is Shelley and ... so is Janice, a coven is proposed. Karen (with most attractive devil horns) is having her fortune told - she gets Steve to listen. Apparently she is going to be married to the same man for a long time - but there will be breaks - will one of them be working abroad. Steve (delightfully bedecked with hair all over his face as a werewolf) listens and something in Terry's comments lead us to think that the breaks might be caused by time in prison. The love will survive the times apart.

Nick is Dracula, Candice is (obviously) a bride and Maria is a very attractive Medusa, which Nick has to explain to Candice. Maria is reminded of one of the good times in Canada - one evening when things were obviously going very well! Nick offers to buy them both drinks.

Eileen, Janice and Fiz notice Les's absence - it is after 7! Janice suggests raising a petition to get the tagging period extended. Fiz wishes it could be extended to her mother as well. Fiz has a real downer on her mother.

Frankenstein Fred tries to convince Jack to partake of some foul brew - and any way why is he not dressed up. Well says Jack you have heard of the bride of Frankenstein - well he has come as the husband, the husband of Vera Duckworth!

Shelley has her fortune told - one of the cards turned over is "Death" - Terry knows that the past couple of months have been bad - Shelley is too trusting, but she is a strong woman, good in business and content in life. She will have one true love in her life - a real soul mate. At these words we see Peter appear in the background.

At the Battersby residence Les enjoys the company, the food and Cilla observes that it is a pity that it not like this every night. Les makes the suggestion that they live together. Cilla says she can't - her reputation, over t' brush? Les thinks she is being serious until she cracks and agrees to move in. At which point the meter runs out and he asks for 50p for the meter.

Back at Rovers Shelley gives Peter a free pint and he thanks her. Meanwhile Terry tells Bev that she is going to be married within the year to someone connected to the pub. Bev does not believe her, Shelley suggests Fred, who is removing his wig in the background, Harry Flagg or perhaps Ken Barlow who lives next door. Bev does not believe in all this nonsense. Ciaran asks her what she was told and perhaps, just perhaps Bev can see her future in front of her.

Fred gets Ashley to have a reading and Terry tells it straight. Terry tells him that it is time to move on. Ashley considers her a fake. Terry refuses to take the £50 from Fred - she says that she really did see Maxine and sometimes the gift can be a curse.

Roy remains worried - as he tells Hayley he had to tell the Registrar he was not married and he felt he was lying when he said single. Hayley re-assures him that legally it is true.

Maria observes that Steve's hair looks good - and the source of the hair was from the salon - Rita, Vera and Les contributed to the hair on his head. Tyrone is very white - but the paint will not come off. It is hard wearing paint for the pigeon coop. Tyrone will have to use turps and a wire brush.

Peter is looking after Simon tomorrow. He asks Shelley to join them but she refuses. At least they are having a polite conversation. Tracy arrives and invites Peter to be a witness at her wedding. Peter reminds Tracy that she has to tell Steve - she must stop being the wicked witch of the west (and she is not dressed up) - a cute line on this particular night. Peter tells Tracy that having a baby changed his whole world and Steve should experience that. Tracy will not tell. Peter has no option - if she does tell Steve he will.

And that is that. Some lovely make up - I have not had the time to work them all out.

See you all again next week.
