Monday 1 September

Hi everyone - here is the first of tonight's programmes.

We open with the removal men loading up Curly and Emma's furniture. Les comes along, wondering if they've sold. Emma tells him no, they just couldn't stand living next door to him a moment longer!

Gail meets Audrey in the street. Gail has just seen David off on his school trip to France. Gail muses that it will be strange being in an empty house, she hopes Sarah got sorted for school this morning and got Bethany to creche.

Mick has prepared breakfast on a tray for Janice, complete with small vase of flowers, when she walks into the kitchen. He tells her it's a peace offering - breakfast in bed. She has to rush off to the other man who needs her - Mr. Baldwin - and declines Mick's suggestion she throws a sickie. She tells him it was a lovely thought, and makes a sarnie with the bread and the sausages etc. She tells him she'll see him in the pub at dinner time.

Roy and Hayley are in the cafe. Roy couldn't sleep, wondering if Tracy has absconded with 5,000 pounds of their money, and even if those fears are unfounded there's still plenty of other things to stop him from sleeping. Hayley tries to placate him by telling him that a baby is what they wanted. Karen comes up and takes Hayley off to work.

Vera comes in to the cafe to begin her day's work. She sees Sarah already there, working and tells her she'd better get her skates on, she'll be late for school. Sarah tells her she's working there full time now. Vera is worried and gets Roy's assurance that Sarah won't be taking any of her hours, and also that there's a pecking order, and Sarah can go and clean the toilets. Just as Sarah goes off, Gail comes into the cafe, Sarah ducks out of sight but listens as Gail asks Roy how things are. At least he and Hayley are still together, she tells him, and she'd swap nightmares with him anytime!

Out in the street Fizz and Maria are paying some rent to Audrey. They've paid last month's rent, but Audrey wonders where this month's rent is. Fizz asks her to give her a break! Candice comes running up, looking disheveled. Audrey tells her she shouldn't come to work looking like that and to get inside. Maria asks if she can pay Audrey what she owes a little bit each month, after all she doesn't earn much in the salon!

Curly is polishing his telescope, wondering if it might fit in the car instead of on the roof rack. Norris comes in with a tray of hot drinks and makes a poor attempt at the Geordie accent. Curly reflects that their son will grow up talking like Gazza.

Karen and the factory girls come into the pub. (It must be dinner time already!) They are talking about the party that's planned for Curly. Janice isn't sure she's going. Les says they can count him out, he'll celebrate after they've gone. Mick, who has been waiting with a drink for Janice, says she should go, they have a lot to thank Emma for. 'Like saving you from prison you mean?' asks Janice. She'll be there for Curly, she reckons he's the real victim in all this.

Hayley, in the pub, goes over to talk to Deirdre. She asks if Deirdre has heard from Tracy. Deirdre says she hasn't but she didn't really expect to. Hayley asks if she is expecting Tracy to come back. Deirdre says she is, but perhaps it would be better if she didn't.

Jack and Curly are sitting in the almost empty house. Jack is escaping from Vera who keeps on about Sarah working at the cafe. Emma comes in and asks Jack to take Curly to the pub. As they go off, Mick arrives and Emma gets him to make her a cup of tea. (Not actually seen her do anything yet!) She tells Mick she can't wait to get away from there, and thinks that when she and Curly got married they should have got their own place and not moved in to his house. All the people around are his friends, people who loved his ex-wife. Mick thinks that is what he should do with Janice, get her away and then they might have a future together.

Some time later Curly is looking at Ben, wondering if he will remember any of this. He wants Ben to be proud of him. Ashley comes in, asking if Emma and Curly will come and have a drink before they go.

Candice is in the cafe, trying to talk to Sarah who is working. She is moaning about her mum's new boyfriend. Martin comes in and sees Sarah working, and asks if she's finished early now that she's a 6th former. Sarah tells him she's working in the cafe now, and not going to school. When Martin starts to protest she asks what would be the point in going back to school to spend 2 yrs getting rubbish grade A-levels. Katy is standing in the background. Sarah tells Martin he should adopt Katy, the perfect daughter! Martin tells Sarah one daughter is quite enough. Martin then sidles over and has a quiet word with Katy and arranges to meet up with her later, no one will notice if he's late for Emma and Curly's farewell do.

Ashley, Emma and Curly are on their way to the pub. Les comes out of the pub and tells them he won't be coming to the party. What party? Ooops! Has he ruined the surprise? Well his life was ruined, he spent 3 months inside for something he didn't do. Curly tells him to put it all behind him as he has, and he doesn't hold grudges. Les reckons Curly has a life sentence being married to Emma. Curly and Emma walk into the Rovers and act surprised! Vera asks Curly if he's all right, are those tears in his eyes? Curly seems choked.

Fizz and Maria are discussing who they could get to come and share their flat and help with the bills. What about Ashley's nanny?

Roy is sitting on Maxine's bench, looking thoughtful.

Back in the Rovers, Fred urges Curly to give a speech. Curly protests that he's bad a speeches, but tells them all that they hold a special place in his heart, especially Emily and also Vera and Jack who were like a mum and dad to him. Then he breaks down, unable to continue. Janice remarks that Curly is honourable, which is more than can be said for some folk.

Katy and Martin are coming out of Martin's flat, into the street, checking that the coast is clear.

Ken sees Roy sitting on the bench and asks if he's coming to the party. Roy tells him not after the last party. Ken sits down beside him. Roy tells him the last few weeks have been the most traumatic of his life. Everything has been turned upside down. He and Hayley were happy, contented. Ken explains that that is Hayley's weakness, she doesn't like to see other people happy when she's not, and she's basically an unhappy person. Roy thinks he's been touched by evil. He knows other people think it's a joke, Roy Cropper in drunken frolics while his wife is away. He tells Ken he attempted suicide, now he realizes what pain that would have caused Hayley. Would it have hurt Tracy? He doesn't think so.

In the pub, Martin has got there at last. Vera tells Jack to go and look for Curly, Emma hasn't even noticed he's gone.

Mick and Janice are talking about their relationship. He wants them to move away, have a fresh start and asks her to marry him.

Jack finds Curly sitting on the floor of his empty house. He has found a postcard that he sent home from his honeymoon with Raquel on the QE2. He loved her. He's got 20 years of memories in Coronation St, ever since he was a kid. Jack tells him if he and Emma are going to make it, they have to move away from here. Curly comments that she hasn't even missed him and come looking for him. If she had, he would have hugged and kissed her and told her he loved her, but she didn't......so he's not going!

Part 2

Curly and Jack are still in Curly's empty house. Curly tells Jack this is his home. Jack tells him it's just a house, home is with his wife and baby. Jack tells him he's got his future ahead. Curly doesn't want a new house or a new start.

In the pub Martin is wondering where Curly is. Mick asks Janice if she's going to marry him. She tells him she's not free. He says she could be if she got Les moving on the divorce.

Sarah tells Todd she's going to see her mum to tell her about giving up school.

Jack goes into the pub and tells Emma to go and see Curly in the house, and how he's upset about moving. Emma goes off saying nothing's ever straightforward with Norman.

Mick asks Janice again to marry him. Janice gets up and goes off, saying she can't stand any more of this.

Maria meets Claire in the street and asks if she's like to move in and share the flat with her and Fizz. Claire says she'll think about it and let Maria know. Tyrone comes along and while he's chatting to Claire he sees Maz coming. He asks Maz to come for a drink with him.

Emma finds Curly in the house, and tells him Jack has said he's throwing a wobbler. Emma wants to know what's going on, they're supposed to be saying goodbye to the neighbours and she gets a message saying he's upset. Curly says he's lived there a long time, he doesn't think he can go. Emma reckons his timing is brilliant, the whole house is cleared and the furniture on its way to Tyneside.

At Gail's house Sarah is expecting an argument, but Gail says there's no point in trying to make her see sense, Sarah will do what she wants to do. Sarah tells her mum she's capable of making her own decisions about her life. Gail's tells her she'll remind her of that one day, when she realizes she's thrown her life away and it's too late to pick up the pieces, she'll say Gail should have told her. Well, Gail has told her and Sarah wouldn't listen. And one day Todd will blame her, he'll say Sarah stopped him going to university, he's sick of living in poverty and it's all Sarah's fault. He'll start to hate her. Sarah tells Gail that Todd will never be like that. Gail goes on to say that if Sarah starts to drag Bethany down, if she neglects her, she'll have her to answer to.

Back at the Watt's house, Curly and Emma are having a heated discussion. Curly wants them to rethink the whole thing. He tells her his life only makes sense there, in that house. Emma, exasperated, says that they've talked about this, what is he so upset at leaving behind, Les Battersby living next door, or a career he hasn't even got? They'll both have a new start. Curly says he can't explain, it's instinct, he's been happy there. Then Emma tells him she's had enough. She's driving to the new house in about half an hour, with Ben, and Curly can decide whether or not he wants to come with her. Frankly, she doesn't care either way!

Mick and Janice are talking, he's asking what is wrong with wanting to marry her. (Well, each to his own!) She tells him to drop it, she doesn't want anything to do with marriage any more. Mick reckons there's been something wrong ever since they had the 'do' with Les, when he broke in. Janice tells him all right, yes, she didn't like the fact that he had lied to her. Mick tells her he did it because of her, he didn't like the filthy, vile names Les was calling her, so she shouldn't forget it! Janice tells him there's no chance of that.

Candice has called on Sarah at the flat, but Todd tells her Sarah's gone to see her mum, should be back any time. He would offer her tea but there's only enough milk for Bethany. Sarah comes back in then, and Candice, seeming really quiet and fed up, asks if she can stay the night. Sarah and Todd tell her they don't have any beds or bedding spare, so she can't stay.

Audrey and Maria are in the pub discussing Candice. Maria reckons Candice was useless at work, and Audrey agrees that she seemed to be in a right dream, and supposes that her head was full of boys. Well, she'd better buck up or Audrey will have to let her go.

Tyrone and Maz are talking about harvest customs. Maz has been in places where everyone took their clothes off and danced naked. Tyrone asks if she joined in, of course she did, it was only polite. Tyrone agrees, and asks where this was, Africa? No, the other side of Cheadle! Maz asks if Tyrone is a dancer, he says he is a bit. She'll have to remember that.

Curly is asking why everyone keeps buying farewell drinks, he's not going now. Vera says he's throwing his marriage away and tells Jack to have a word. Jack says he shouldn't interfere between husband and wife. Sally is leaving the pub and says goodbye to Curly, who tells her he'll see her in there tomorrow, he's not going. Sally asks Ashley to have a word. Ashley tells Curly not to lose his wife and little lad, to stick with his marriage, it's bad enough having them taken from you, don't throw it away. Curly reflects on this.

Mick and Jan are talking. He tells her they need a break. From each other? she asks. No, just to get away somewhere, his station sergeant Tim Hedley has a cottage in Anglesey, they could have a weekend break, just Mick, Janice, Tim and his missus. Janice thinks the missus is a snotty cow who looked down her nose at Janice, then she tells Mick that he does it too, sometimes, when he's with his mates. Janice then starts to really goad Mick, and as he starts to lose his temper she asks if he'd like to shut her up?

Candice leaves Todd and Sarah's flat. Todd wonders what is up with Candice, but Sarah didn't notice anything wrong. Sarah tells Todd what Gail said about him hating her one day because he didn't go to Oxford.

Gail has picked up the phone and dialed Social Services. On the answering machine she leaves a message saying she's worried about Bethany, she feels she's neglected and Sarah and Todd leave her alone in the flat.

Mick and Janice continue their conversation, he asks her if she was trying to get him to hit her. Janice reckons it would have been the easiest way out of the relationship. It has gone, whatever they had. She wants to end it, she's gone off him, it's no use pretending. She'll go to the pub and stay till closing time to give him time to get all his stuff out. She wants him gone when she comes back.

Roy is cleaning up. Hayley comes in. He tells her when she goes out he thinks she's wont come back. He's torturing himself, he can't forgive himself. She thinks they can get back to the way they were, given time.

Out in the street, Emma has put Ben in the car. She is about to get in the car herself when Curly hurries down the street from the pub. He apologizes for throwing a wobbler, it was top of the Curly Watts range. He loves Emma and he's going with them, it doesn't matter where they live as long as they are together. He asks for a minute and goes into the house to pick up his telescope. He tells Emma he's still in the gutter, and still looking at the stars! (Touch of Oscar Wilde here?) All the neighbours come out of the pub to see them off. Goodbye, they'll miss Curly, but Les appears and tells them to push off, it's good riddance. Curly and Emma drive away - see ya!

Wednesday 3 September

Tonight's episode begins in the street where Ashley and Claire are discussing Curly's empty house. Meanwhile in the Kabin Emily and Rita are having a similar conversation and saying how much they miss him, Norris enters from the back and thinks they are talking about the missing Monty! No such luck Norris! As Emily leaves Harry comes in giving Norris a chance to get some sympathy from him. Candice meanwhile is late for work and running from the bus to the hairdressers bumps into Audrey, Audrey however, is keen to get away as she has just seen Gale and dashes off to speak to her telling her that she has arranged to take Sarah's post round. Gale is quite miffed at this and wonders if she will be providing meals for them next!

In the Rovers Mick is looking for Janice and gets some stick from Fiz, Les over by the bar hears the exchange between Fiz and Mick and finds out that Janice has slung Mick out and getting Kirk dashes off to see if Mick is really leaving the flat.

Back in the street Norris is sitting on the bench looking dejected at Monty's disappearance when Harry asks if there is any news of the missing Monty - Norris thinks he will never see him again to which Harry suggests somewhat tongue in cheek some sort of memorial - Norris (being Norris!) takes this seriously - Norris is asking if a bench like Maxine's would be in bad taste when ..... is that a little meow in the background? Yes Monty's back!!

Mick meanwhile has arrived back at Janice's flat and is trying to talk Janice out of ending the relationship he's not getting much luck here and Janice asks for the key back here ends another relationship!

Norris has got hold of the cat - now with collar and with name of Phoebe!

Les and Kirk have now turned up outside Janice's flat just in the to see the departure of Mick - Les is elated to see Mick leaving and seems to think that he may be able to get back with Janice.

Sarah is just arriving back at Todd's flat to find the same social worker there asking questions about Bethany and if she is left alone at all during the day or night. Sarah agrees to put a rota together confirming where and when they all are during the week, this is to confirm that Bethany is not being left by herself.

Norris is still going on about Monty (Phoebe?) and Rita is getting fed up with this and rings the number on the tag. Phoebe belongs it seems to a Mrs Parry who when she finds out that Norris has got here says she is coming round straight away.

In the Salon Candice is not having a good day and it gets worse when Audrey finds she has not washed the towels and Betty now has a multi coloured blouse where the colour has run. Candice is on her mobile, which Audrey confiscates, while she is talking to her mum.

Back in the Rovers the girls from the factory are having lunch and celebrating Janice's escape from Mick. Les meanwhile is still propping up the bar along with Kirk and wants to speak to Janice but wants to make a good impression (best done by staying away Les!)

Mrs Parry has turned up at Emily's house to collect Phoebe, Norris wont let her in when Emily turns up and despite Norris's protests lets Mrs Parry in while he gets locked out!

At the salon Betty is escorted out by Audrey who is just taking the ruined blouse to the dry cleaners, Candice is also there and asks for her mobile back, Audrey says she can have it tomorrow but with Candice pleading that she needs it is given the keys to the Salon by Audrey (wise move?)

Eileen in the the cab shop is confronted by a debt collector - she owes £300 plus this weeks money. Dev comes in as the debt collector goes and Eileen asks for extra shifts Dev says an emphatic NO.

Back at Todd and Sarah's they have their suspicions as to who told the social workers about Bethany. Sarah puts two and two together and goes dashing off to Gale's to confront her.

At the Rovers, Ashley's child minder, Claire has decided to do the flat share with Maria and Fiz.

Les is also there (where else) and is keen to get to speak to Janice, she sees this coming and Betty puts the clock forward to 7pm so that Les has to go as he has to be home by then to beat the curfew. Janice makes it quite clear that Les and her could not be an item!

Sarah meanwhile has arrived and Gales and accuses her of contacting Social Services, Gale does not deny this and says she acting in the best interests of Bethany. Gale maintains that Bethany is not safe in the flat. Audrey walks in during full flow of argument Sarah stalks out saying that Gale does not have daughter or grand-daughter now.

Candice still with the keys to the salon has let herself back in and looks like she is staying the night to stay away from her mum's new boyfriend.

Meanwhile Audrey is trying to make Gale see sense, all Gale does is alienate her mother as well, Audrey stalks out here, leaving Gale to find (Gasp) Nick has returned from Canada!

That's all folks

Pete Webb.

Friday 5 September

At Gail's, she and Audrey patch things up after their quarrel about Sarah and little Bethany. Audrey's face lights up when Nick trots down the stairs - she didn't realize he was home. [Is peace going to break out at last?] Nick will be a tonic for Gail, Audrey says, but Nick is only home for a few days; he's off to London.

Meanwhile, at Todd and Sarah's, Sarah remains livid at what she sees as her Mum's viciousness towards her and wee Bethany. Sarah pleads with Todd to support her, and not ever let Gail in their flat, or anywhere near Bethany. Todd promises. [This is not the happy little love-nest which they'd both looked forward to, it seems...]

The Grimshaw domicile, and Eileen's debts are mounting by the day, not helped by her one meagre wage being stretched to feed herself, son Jason and Jason's Dad, Tony. Apart from some slices of stale bread, there's no food in the house. Jason chirps that he's to have his plaster off today, so he can look for work tomorrow. Tony adds that Peter Barlow owes them money for the electrical work they did in Todd's flat. Eileen faces a grim future - she just cannot cope financially any more.

In the Salon, Betty receives her damaged blouse back from the dry cleaner's, and a glum Candice [whose hair could do with a tidy!] is told that the bill will be deducted from her wages. Audrey spells out to Candice that she has to leave her love-life outside these walls, or else. Furthermore, Audrey gives her five minutes to smarten herself up. Audrey then informs Maria that Nick is back from Canada, and not to hurt him again, or else. [It's now Maria's turn to look glum.]

Back at Gail's, Martin meets Nick, who says that he's left Canada for good, and he asks Martin what's been happening. [He should read the updates!] Nick is appalled to hear that his Mum phoned Social Services about Sarah, and he's keen to meet this Todd. Just as Gail creeps downstairs, Nick tells Martin that he loves his Mum dearly, which brings a rare maternal smile to Gail's face. [Of course, Gail doesn't realize that her son is only home for a fleeting visit...]

In the Rovers, Tony and Jason tackle Peter about the cash he owes them for their electrical expertise. [Which, as you'll remember, included wiring the flat's circuit to the bookies' meter!!] Peter claims he doesn't carry much cash with him, so they'll have to call to see him in the betting shop, but not today for he has an appointment elsewhere. [Now, where would that be, we wonder?] Tony and Jason leave the pub, dejected, and Peter orders another drink, pulling out a well-stuffed wallet.

In the Salon, Maria and Audrey take an early lunch, leaving a still-glum Candice to hold the fort in their absence. Maria and Audrey cross to the Rovers, and a shady-looking character is seen lurking at the corner as they pass. [It's a male - all 'shady' characters are, didn't you know?]

Jason worries about what's for dinner, but his Dad assures him that Eileen will 'magic-up' a wonderful meal for them all. [In your dreams, Tony! Ever tried shopping without money? Ever tried shopping??]

Candice is alone in the Salon and the door opens; it's the shady character from across the road, who turns out to be Gerry, her Mum's boyfriend. [Candice looks terrified, not at all the cocky girl we've known.] Gerry claims to have come to see her, for her Mum, and he, are worried about her and where she spent last night. [Candice slept in the Salon, remember?] Gerry comes closer to Candice, and she backs away from him. "Why are you so nasty to me?" he asks. "Why don't you want to talk to me?" he goes on. Candice is obviously scared of this guy, and she warns him to stay away from her, as he grins. [This Gerry gives ME the creeps!]

In the Rovers, Maria and Fiz discuss the possibility of someone else sharing the flat with them, to share the rent. Of course, it wouldn't be a guy, Maria assures her. [That would be a surprise, eh?] Audrey agrees - they can have a flat-mate.

Back at the Salon, Gerry is clearly terrifying Candice, who accuses him of pestering and following her, even trying to touch her. This slime-ball suggests to Candice that she fancies him, but Candice's face shows her true feelings - fear. Just as things are going from bad to worse, with Gerry's persistent lurid comments, Audrey arrives. [Audrey has never met this Gerry before.] Gerry attempts to talk himself out of the situation, but Audrey is having none of it - she sees the effect his presence has on Candice, and she issues him his marching orders. Mr Burton (Gerry) wisely departs, and Candice sobs on Audrey's shoulder.

Nick calls on Sarah in her flat, and Sarah recounts the misery their Mum has put her through, Sarah holding it all together in the face of horrendous events in her young life. She doesn't need her Mum any more. Just as the decibel count rises, Todd arrives and meets Nick for the first time. Nick assures them both that he'd liked to have been there for them all, but he's only passing through...

Back at the Salon, Candice pours her heart out to Audrey - about how this Gerry keeps pestering her, her Mum won't listen to her and how she can't ever go back home. Audrey promises to take care of her...

Outside the Rovers, Claire learns that she can now move into the flat with Fiz and Maria, just as she happens to notice a handsome young man striding towards them. [Yes, you guessed - it's Nick.] Exeunt Claire and Fiz, leaving the two ex-lovers to have a rather awkward chin-wag about how it had all gone wrong in Canada. Maybe they could talk later? [Wouldn't hold your breath, Nick.]

Back chez Gail, and Martin accuses Gail of becoming more and more like Ivy, in her trying to control her family. [Like Ivy? Now, that IS harsh!!] Martin thinks that Sarah (16) knows her own mind and can be responsible for her own life. [Just like Katy (16)?] Gail accuses Martin of being a liberal father, just as the phone rings... ... and it's the firm from London where Nick has an interview next week; they're calling to remind Nick that he can claim expenses at the interview. Gail informs the caller that her son has decided not to attend the interview, and that he's going to stay where he is. [Martin hears this conversation, and is pleased that Nick will be around again.]

Claire is just about to settle in to her flat with the girls, when Audrey arrives and informs everyone that she's allocated Candice the new tenancy. Candice is now under Audrey's wing, she says. More glum expressions. [Whatever happened to happiness?]

Martin meets Nick on the street and tells him how pleased he is that Nick is not going to London after all. Nick strides off to see his Mum...

... and storms in to see Gail, who thinks that her ruse has worked. [Oh no it hasn't.] Nick lambastes his Mum for interfering in his life and trying to control him. He's now twenty-two, and he doesn't need, or wish, his Mum to meddle constantly in his life. [The decibel count just about goes off the scale.] As Gail listens to this tirade, Nick ends by congratulating her for, within the space of a mere twenty-four hours, losing two of her kids. Nick is going to London, whether Gail likes it or not.

Nick and Ashley go into the pub...........Ashley goes to the bar and leaves Nick to be confronted by Janice...........she tells him about Maria's abortion.................he looks shocked.......he didn't know................he tells Ashley he has to go ..to sort something out. Nick goes to the salon flat to see Maria...........he demands to know if the baby she aborted was his??? Her boyfriend rings..she tells him she will call him back. She tells him no.........and they sit and talk about what she did with Toyah's boyfriend and why she left Nick without an explanation.................they seem to clear the air.............when Candice comes back, she apologises, but they tell her its fine.....Nick is leaving, and Maria makes Candice a drink, and tells her to get some biscuits.....cos hers are better than Fiz's

Eileen has finished her shift and is in the rovers, she over -hears Jason saying how pleased his mum will be now Peter has paid for the work they did.......but his dad says no way, this money is ours.........its the first time he's been paid for putting right something he messed up in the first place. She steps forward and says what u talking about..............Jason tells her..............she goes mad!!! she shouts at them, Shelley asks what's going on and she says get them to tell u.......I'm going home!!!

Eileen gets home to a tip!! they have put the washing in mixed, and her clothes are ruined.

Peter sits down with Tony and Jason and asks them what's been going on?? They tell him that they had wired the flat up to the bookies, so that Sarah and Todd didn't need to pay any electricity....... and he wants to know if Sarah and Todd knew what they had done?? they did.

Audrey is telling Gail how sorry she feels for Candice.........she wonders how can any mother can be so wicked to use the children to their own ends like that Cue Gail's Hamster face.

Eileen apologises to Dev..............he tells her he won't bail her out again. She goes into the pub and throws her best blouse at Tony.........he tries to blame Jason, but she tells Tony she wants him out the house and out of her life!!!

Sue Nicholson

Monday 8 September

Sarah and Todd are making breakfast and moaning about Jason and Tony messing with the electrics and getting them kicked out of the flat. Sarah comments that maybe moving in wasn't such a good idea in the first place. Todd says if that's how she feels maybe she should move back with her mum. She says maybe she should. They start having a row.

At Eileen's house, she brings in the post. It's bills, bills and more bills, none of which she can pay. Tony tells her she was right, it was a stupid stunt to pull. Tony is apparently getting his plaster off today, then he'll be able to get out there and start earning some money. Eileen him he can start packing, once the plaster's off, he's out.

At Gail's, Martin pops in to ask Nick out for a pint. Nick is on the phone, rearranging his job interview. When he's finished Gail asks if he doesn't get it will he come back? Nick says no, he's got a better chance of finding one in London, because he probably won't get this one as she made him look such an idiot. He goes off to pack. Gail reckons there's plenty of good companies in Manchester, she doesn't see why he needs to go off to London. (Everyone else does though!) Martin says its because he wants to. Gail remembers that he wanted to go off to Canada. She lost Nick and now it seems like she's losing Sarah as well. David will be next as soon as he's old enough. Martin tries to tell her that she can't control people's lives, if she wants her children to come back to her she has to be prepared to let them go. (Very wise, Martin! Would he have felt like this before he got involved with Katy I wonder?)

Todd and Sunita are working in the shop. Ciaran comes bouncing in. Guess what? He's got the night off. So has Sunita, he's going to blow a week's wages taking her out, but he might spend it on someone else instead! Todd says grimly, what about me? But he's not Ciaran's type!

In the taxi office Dev is on the phone, while Eileen sits and stares. Moaning about her daydreaming, Dev gives her a wad of money that he was going to bank but now doesn't have the time. He tells her to get Steve to do it. Eileen stares at the money for a moment before putting it in the drawer. Jason comes in. She asks if Tony's gone. Jason doesn't want his dad to go, Eileen stopped his dad seeing him before, and now she's doing it again, but this time it isn't going to work.

In the cafe, Sarah asks Tyrone if he and Katy ever argue. Tyrone stutters no. (No wonder really, they're never together!) Vera hails Tyrone, and asks what's happened to all the veg. Maz was supposed to be bringing them, seeing as she's using their greenhouse. Vera thinks there's something fishy going on and she's going to go down there this afternoon and check up, and she's taking Jack with her. (Bad luck, Jack!)

Martin and Nick are in the pub. Martin tells Nick that he's not expecting him to stay, but to be more understanding of his mother.

Todd arrives in the pub to tell Jason and Tony that Peter's kicked him and Sarah out of the flat. He's angry and upset with them. Tony says he was only trying to do them a favour. Todd is furious and tries to attack Tony, saying he nearly killed his girlfriend's kid. He then tells Jason that Tony's not staying because of him, but because he only wanted a free place to doss down, he's a user. The two brothers nearly start to fight, and are broken up by Martin and Nick. Tony leaves, he's not welcome round here. Jason asks Tony for his address, he's going to miss his dad, and he gives him money for a taxi.

Shelly is talking to Peter. She didn't expect him to chuck them out. They're only kids, can't he give them another chance? Peter snaps that they had no right to rip him off and she shouldn't be so soft. Shelly goes off in a huff, which is Ciaran's cue to ask Peter what's really bothering him. He tells him it's Lucy, she's cancelled his visit to Simon yet again, at this rate he won't know who he is. Is Lucy freezing him out altogether? Ciaran tells him he's got to make a choice, he can't keep acting this way or wifey no. 2 will get suspicious.

Tony goes into the taxi office to tell Eileen he's going. They start to squabble about the fact that he messed up. Patrick, one of the drivers, comes in and starts to eat his lunch. The atmosphere is rather tense, to put it mildly, so he goes out again. Just then Eileen gets a phone call. It sounds like someone is having a baby and needs a taxi urgently. She opens the drawer and takes out a notepad to write the address on. Tony sees the wad of money in the drawer. Eileen goes out to take the address to Patrick, and while she's out of the office Tony takes the money out of the drawer. When Eileen comes back in, Tony leaves, telling her if only she'd given him another chance things wouldn't have had to turn out like this. She tells him he's a waste of space and always has been.

Todd and Nick are in the pub, Todd is blaming himself for making a mess of things. Sarah comes in and they apologise to each other for the morning's row. Nick gives them 50.00 pounds to soften up their landlord. Todd and Sarah go straight over to Peter and give him the money, asking if they can stay on. Peter says they can. Shelley asks who's being soft now? Peter tells her its being kind and compassionate, and he learns from his wife.

Dev is in high spirits, talking to Steve in the taxi office. He'll be able to have a holiday soon, now that Dev's upped the takings. Steve seems skeptical. Dev says surely he's seen yesterday's takings. Steve tells him he hasn't. Dev tells him Eileen was supposed to tell him to bank them, but Steve says she never told him. Where are they then? Steve suggests that maybe Eileen is banking them herself in her lunch hour.

In the pub Nick says he's going to check the train times. Todd asks if he's really going. Nick jokes he'll probably find the door bricked up.

Jack, Peter, Ciaran and Patrick are at the bar checking the day's runners. They're talking about backing a horse, but Peter says he doesn't fancy it. Patrick reckons he would say that because he doesn't want to pay out, so the three of them decide to put some money on it. Just as Jack is on his way, he is collared by Vera who drags him off to the allotment.

Jason is telling Tyrone that his dad has gone and how much he hates his mum for sending him away.

In the taxi office, Dev is fretting about the missing money. Eileen comes in. She had forgotten to tell Steve to bank the takings. Then where are they? They are not in the drawer, and people come in and out of the office all day. Patrick comes in and Dev practically accuses him of taking them. Then he turns to Eileen, and says he can't believe she left them in the drawer. She says she had a lot on her mind.

At the allotment Maz and her hippie friends are eating cake Maz has made with dope, drinking lager, smoking (what?) and giggling a lot. Vera and Jack come along, and Vera is not best pleased with what she sees. Maz tells her they're just having a break before they get back to work. Vera reckons it's more like a party, they should go somewhere else, they're making a mess of her allotment. Jack tells her it was a mess before. He suggests that Maz takes her in the greenhouse and shows her what she's growing.

In the taxi office the situation is going from bad to worse for poor Eileen. Dev accuses her of taking the money because she had debts. Eileen is affront ed, and urges Steve to tell Dev that she wouldn't. Steve looks uncomfortable and remains silent. Eileen thinks back over the events of the day and then realises that Tony must have taken the money when she took the address out to Patrick. Dev asks where Tony is now, but Eileen doesn't know. Dev reckons they might be in it together. He decides to call the police and picks up the phone. Eileen tells them they can stuff their job.

Maz shows Vera the plants in the greenhouse, Vera wonders why she can't see any tomatoes. Maz tells her they come later (not quite sure how!) in a few weeks there'll be tons. Vera could sell those she can't eat. Maz urges them to sit down and talk about it, and hands Jack the lager he's been longing for. A little disgruntled, Vera agrees to Maz carrying on at the allotment, and says she'll have one of those cakes and all! Maz passes the tin.

Nick is on the phone checking train times. Gail comes in and admits she made a fool of herself, its just that she wants to put her arms round all of them and keep them all safe.

Police come knocking on Eileen's door. Can he come in and ask her a few questions? No he can't. Well, would she come down to the station then? No, she won't. Well then, he'll have to arrest her. Jason comes running up, wondering what's happening. She tells him his dad took the takings. Jason can't believe his dad would do that. Eileen tells him to find his dad, surely he won't choose him over her? Does he hate her that much? The police car drives Eileen away.

In the street Jason is talking to Dev and Steve. They ask him if he thinks it could have been his dad, but Jason obviously refuses to think anything bad of Tony and tells them it was neither his dad or his mum. He asks Steve why he's doing this, after all Eileen let him sleep on their sofa. Steve is cross with Dev for putting him in this situation and storms off. Todd comes along and Jason tells him their mum as been arrested because Dev and Steve reckon she took 700 pounds from work. Todd declares that Eileen would never do that. Patrick drives up and gets out of his taxi, just as Todd is asking Jason who it could have been. Patrick says it was Tony, he was the only one alone in the office. Jason still finds this hard to believe, but Todd wants to know where Tony can be found.

At Gail's house Nick is bringing his suitcases downstairs, although his train does not leave until the evening, can't he wait to get away? Gail wonders. Nick assures her that is not the case, and as far as Sarah is concerned, she will come around. Gail isn't so sure, she's missing the most interesting part of Bethany's growing up, getting bigger every day and learning new things. She tells Nick it has been lovely having him home and she doesn't know what she'll do when he goes. Nick tells her he is going, but first he's going round to see Sarah, would his mum like him to pass on a message? Gail doesn't think Sarah would want to hear from her.

In the taxi office Dev and Steve can't see eye to eye about the situation with Eileen. Dev asks Steve if he wants to be robbed blind, and he didn't appreciate Steve disagreeing with him in public, it was a business decision. Steve argues that Dev didn't consult him and anyway, Eileen's a mate and you don't grass on your mates. Is this a breach of criminal etiquette? Dev doesn't work like that. Steve tells him it's a matter of loyalty. Dev reckons Steve should show him some.

Meanwhile, down at the police station, Eileen is protesting her innocence. They tell her if she just makes a statement she will be released. She asks whether she should have a solicitor. They say she could......but it's really not necessary. But Eileen has heard about situations like this, the Birmingham 6 for example, she wants a solicitor. One of the policemen makes a flippant comment that he doubts she'll get life for this, Eileen is not amused. She wants a solicitor and she doesn't want theirs, she'll get her own with her one permitted phone call. They will have to put her in a cell until her solicitor can be found. She is shocked by this, and even more so when they search her bag for sharp objects.

Down at the allotment, Vera and Jack are chilling out in deckchairs while Maz tends the soil. Vera thought the cake was lovely and asks if there's any more. Maz is sorry but it's all gone. Vera thinks that's a pity, she could do with something to take the taste of the lager away, there seems to be something in it. Maz tells her it's ginseng, a root, to give a bit of a lift (!) Does Vera feel any different? Vera wonders why Maz keeps asking her that. Maz tells her the root is an aphrodisiac, but Jack reckons there's not an aphrodisiac in the world that could combat his natural defense of picturing Vera in a hairnet and facepack!

Back at the street Nick catches up Sarah and Bethany. Sarah asks him if he'd babysit Bethany. He protests that it's his last day, but Sarah pleads, saying she just has to make up a sandwich order for Roy and she'll be an hour at most. Nick agrees.

Peter and Ciaran come out of the bookies. Ciaran has put a lot of money on the horse they were talking about. Peter is off to Lucy's for a surprise visit.

Down at the allotment Vera and Jack are roaring with laughter, but they don't know why. Maz asks if they feel any different now. Jack reckons he does, but it's not a lift, he feels less like doing anything than he normally does. He also reckons he just saw a cabbage move! (Has been on LSD as well?)

Todd and Jason are ringing on a doorbell. A tough looking man answers the door, but says he hasn't seen Tony for months. Jason tells him he's looking for his dad. Tony comes out to speak to them.

Back at the allotment Vera and Jack are singing and giggling. Jack is watching the cabbages, he reckons they're the greenest cabbages he's ever seen. Vera, full of bonhomie (or something else?) tells Maz she was wrong about her, she's a lovely girl and she makes a lovely cake. Maz tells her she'll give her the recipe, and a bag of the special ingredients. Vera is delighted.

The boys are talking to Tony, Todd asks for the money back. Tony acts all innocent, but Todd tells him his mum has been arrested because of him, and they're not going until he gives it back. He and Tony start to get physical and Jason tells Todd to go and wait outside. When they're alone he tells his dad to look him in the eye and tell him he didn't take the money. Tony seems to have trouble looking Jason in the eye, although he still protests he didn't take it. The truth starts to dawn on Jason, he realises his mum was right all along, Tony is just a liar and a thief. Didn't his dad realise it would hurt him too? Tony still protests so Jason gives him one last chance, and tells him if he lies to him, he'll be dead to him. Tony admits he took the money.

Nick is in the Kabin with Bethany, buying her mountains of sweets. Rita wonders if he's ever heard of the effects of sugar on children. Gail comes in, delighted to see Bethany, and astounded that Nick would be contemplating giving Bethany all those sweets. She asks if Nick would like to take Bethany round to her house, it would be lovely to have her home again. Nick isn't sure, the doesn't think Sarah would like it. But Gail persuades him, saying that she's missed Bethany, and it would be nice for Bethany too, no one need know.

Jason is still with his dad. Tony hands over the money, saying he didn't mean to take it, he just saw it and grabbed it. Jason tells him he must have known Eileen would get the blame, he thinks his dad is pathetic. Tony says he wanted to get to know Jason, and make a difference. Jason says yes, he did he just hurt him. Tony asks if he's going to see Jason again. Jason says they should just go back to how it was, birthday cards with the wrong age on, a week late, every other year. He takes the money outside to Todd, who asks him to take it back, Todd's due at the hospital.

Ciaran and Peter meet up in the street. Ciaran accuses Peter of not telling him the horse was a duff nag. Peter says he did. Ciaran has lost the money he was going to use to take Sunita out. Peter is not sympathetic, he's got problems of his own, he couldn't find Lucy anywhere.

Sarah meets Nick just as he comes out of Gail's with Bethany. She's cross, she didn't want Bethany in with that evil old witch. Nick protests that Gail's not that bad. (Well, not quite!) And he never wanted to look after Beth anyway.

Dev and Sunita are in the shop talking. Sunita is surprised that Dev had Eileen arrested. Dev tells her he'd have her arrested if he found her with her fingers in the till. Ciaran comes in, Sunita tells him she can't go out, she's got to work, Todd can't work now that his mother's been arrested. Ciaran tells her not to worry, there'll be other nights. She questions why he doesn't seem that disappointed and he tells her he lost the money on a horse. Sunita isn't pleased.

Eileen is still in her cell, wondering why her solicitor hasn't arrived. The policeman tells her the solicitor is busy and she has to stay there until he arrives.

Nick is getting in his taxi, Gail and Audrey are waving him off. Gail gives him a big hug and then gets choked up and goes inside. Nick is hesitant about leaving but Audrey assures him she'll look after Gail. Nick gets in the taxi and drives off.

Dev and Steve are in the taxi office. Jason comes in and hands over the money, and asks Dev to ring the police, his mum didn't take it, but he won't say who did. Dev refuses to make the phone call. How does he know that Jason didn't find it in Eileen's wardrobe? Jason won't tell that it was his dad, and goes out. Steve asks Dev if he's going to ring the police but Dev says no, Eileen did it.

Ciaran goes back into the shop brandishing a bunch of flowers, apparently stolen from just outside the shop. Sunita tells him Dev will have him locked up for that. Ciaran says he saw the horse in the paper and thought of Sunita! Charming! No, it was the name, Sunny Day Girl, it reminded him of her. He talks her round and soon they are locking the shop door!

Back at Gail's, Nick walks in, he's changed his mind about going, this is where he wants to be.

Jason is at the police station. He tells them the taxi firm have got the money back and they should let her go. She didn't do it, she's never been locked up before and she suffers from claustrophobia. We see Eileen in her cell, crying. Poor Eileen!

Wednesday 10 September

Evening All.

Tonight's episode begins with Eileen the following morning in the police cell, then cuts to Jason at Sarah and Todd's flat, the advice from Todd is that Jason will have to tell the police about Tony to make sure that Eileen is released. Jason is unhappy about doing this.

Gail and Nick are having breakfast, they seem to be getting on quite well now and when the subject of Sarah and Bethany comes up Nick tells Gail that the road to forgiveness from Sarah will be long and difficult, because of Nick and Bethany in Gail's house Monday.

At the corner shop Dev is being difficult with Sunita after finding an empty wine bottle and pizza box, has Dev turned into a bin man as this is where they were! Dev is accusing Sunita of not keeping the shop available for customers while she and another - (Ciaran) were enjoying the pizza Sunita suggests that Dev is trying to trip her up - Dev looks distinctly uneasy here...

At Roy's Rolls Jack, Vera and Tyrone are ordering breakfast, Jack and Vera seem to be suffering from "hangovers". Tyrone's thinks his chances with Maz have died a death now that Vera has under the influence of the "cakes" told her that Tyrone fancies her.

At the taxi office Jason and Dev are arguing about Eileen - Jason wants the charges dropped but Dev will not until a name other than Eileen's is in frame.

In Roy's Rolls Nick enters and tells Sarah that he will be sticking around for some time. Todd then comes in and gets disapproving look from Sarah as he joins Nick.

Meanwhile Haley and Roy are discussing whether Tracey will return. Haley thinks she will return while Roy is taking a more pessimistic line and thinks she will not .

Sarah joins Todd and Nick - Sarah is not keen on Bethany going on about seeing Grandma (Gail) again Todd and Nick are trying to get Sarah to accept Gail but she is not having it!

At the taxi office Jason is still there trying to get Dev and Steve to drop charges. Jason will still not shop his father and even Steve makes a token effort to get Dev to change his mind. Dev wants a name from Jason and until he comes up with it charges will stay. Dev gets up and starts to go out and as he does Jason at last sees sense and names Tony.

Back in the Rovers Jack is propping up the bar, Shelley asks him how he feels - Jack is surprised and ashamed at how hungover he feels - I wonder why!!

Ciaran is playing darts while asking Peter about wife number one (Lucy) his only contact recently has been by voice-mail. Peter is getting upset at not seeing his son.

Back at the bar Sunita is telling Shelley about the romantic evening in the corner shop, Ciaran, plonk and pizza - a potent combination! They shut the shop at 7:30 so someone is going to have some explaining to do.

At the police station Jason and Steve are waiting for Eileen. She is understandably none too pleased to see Steve and tells him she doesn't work for scumbags as Steve did not stand up for her against Dev. Jason and Eileen then have to walk home as between them they cannot manage the bus fare as Steve has left after Eileen's comments.

In the hospital canteen Martin is having a break when he is joined by Katy who says she would like to "snog his face off" Yuk!!! Katy is concerned that Kevin will tell her dad about her and Martin.

In the corner shop Todd is working behind the counter as Tyrone and Claire are shopping. Claire is asking Tyrone about Katy and is disapproving of his interest in Maz rather than Katy.

Dev is looking at the till roll and finds last transaction was at 7:30pm.

Peter has gone round to the Lucy's florist shop only to find it empty he then makes a call to Lucy asking to talk to her and asks her to reply to his calls.

Meanwhile Dev has traced Sunita and Ciaran to the Rovers and is asking them about closing 2-1/2 hours early. Dev now bans Ciaran from his shops unless he is buying something!

Roy meets Haley at the Rovers he has been to the library and has got a book on parenting, he seems to be taking his coming parental role seriously, even down to getting the annual local school report!

In the cafe Tyrone is telling Katy about Maz and is trying to get Katy to dump him so he is a free agent with her, when he agrees to an extension of two weeks Katy gives him a big kiss on the cheek which is seen and totally misunderstood by Claire.

Eileen has reached home and is talking to Jason and Todd when there is a knock at the door Jason returns with three heavies - they have bought the debt of the car loan - £5,000 poor Eileen now owes an extra £380 on this and when she says she hasn't got any money the heavies start stripping the house to pay for the debt.

Outside Lucy's florist she returns with a young man who seems to be carrying her son. Peter is waiting in his car outside the shop for her return and is taken aback by this.

Back in the street Vera and Haley are watching Eileen's house being stripped by the debt collectors. Jason and Todd escort Eileen indoors as the van with most of their worldly belongings drives off.

That's all folks!

Pete

Friday 12 September

In Streetcars, Dev appears with a bunch of flowers in his hand, ostensibly as a 'peace offering' for Eileen, who is [quite rightly] a bit miffed at having had to spend a night in a police cell and is refusing to darken the doorstep of Streetcars ever again. Dev states that he's too busy with his seven shops to operate the switchboard, so Steve and Dev discuss what to do, just as Jason arrives and suggests that nothing less than an abject grovel will suffice - perhaps. [This I must see: Dev groveling.]

Over breakfast, Shelley and Peter discuss families; should they not be starting a baby instead of talking about it, Shelley suggests. Shelley wonders if they can have babies, and Peter blurts out that, well, there'll be no problem with him! [Oops - Peter suffers from foot in mouth disease again.] Peter swiftly steers the topic to 'how many babies should we have?' before Shelley questions his previous claim.

Over at Eileen's, Dev and Steve arrive to a not-altogether warm reception. Dev proffers the aforementioned bunch of flowers, and Eileen would ask them to take a seat, if she still had a sofa. Eileen explains that the finance company has sold the debt on, and the latest debt-recovery agent makes the finance company seem like the tooth fairy. Steve tentatively proposes that they 'start again' and wipe the slate clean, but, as someone once said a few years ago, the lady is not for turning, and Eileen sees them off the premises, wishing them 'happy motoring'.

In the cafˇ, Peter pours out his worries to Ciaran: how can he still be involved with Simon, his son, when Lucy obviously has a new man in her life - Dan - who appears to be usurping Peter's role as father-figure? Ciaran advises Peter to get the facts first. [Ciaran is a wise confidant, thinks Peter: yeh, with the emphasis on the 'con'! The writer apologizes to any francophones.]

Jason calls in to Streetcars, to try to persuade Dev and Steve to attempt to get his Mum back to her rightful place on the switchboard. Dev reminds Jason that she still owes him £100. Jason pleads, cajoles and even begs Steve to talk to his Mum, and Steve will talk to her - tomorrow. [I think Kofi Annan would find talking to Eileen an uphill struggle...]

In the Kabin, Emily is telling Rita and an every-hovering Norris about a special church committee meeting in Roy's Rolls this Sunday. Norris suspects that the church is only after people's money, and that the church should sell its palaces. Betty arrives and supports Emily, until Emily invites Betty to the meeting, when Betty suddenly finds that she has a pressing engagement. However, Rita [very reluctantly] agrees to attend. Norris reminds Rita of what she said a few moments ago - 'God loves a cheerful giver'. [I'm reminded of the old adage - a friend in need is a pain in the bum...]

Back at the Grimshaw home, and Jason makes a concerted attempt to get his Mum back to work at Streetcars, but Eileen is adamant that she'll never go back there, for it's a matter of principle. [Jason thinks about the horrendous consequence of this - he'll have to get a job. Whatever next?]

Peter arrives chez Lucy and she's not too delighted to see him. However, he worms his way into her flat and there is Dan, nursing the baby Simon. Dan wisely leaves, and the two former lovers argue about Simon, Dan, Lucy's sleeping arrangements and so on. Peter wants answers, and won't leave until the situation is sorted out.

Jason is still trying [I haven't finished the sentence!] to get his Mum to go back to her job, but Eileen's answer is still NO!!

Peter and Lucy continue their dialogue - briefly, Peter wants more time with his son, and Lucy's domestic arrangements are none of his business.

Maz enters the cafˇ with a large box of potatoes for Vera. Maz also has the secret recipe for her cakes for Vera and, hush my mouth, a packet of her secret herbs to spice-up the cakes with. Vera can't wait to get baking, but Maz warns Vera to go easy on the 'spices'.

Back at Lucy's, and Peter doesn't want to be messed about any more; he'll not rest until Lucy agrees to letting him see more of his son. [All those who wish to give Peter a slap, please form an orderly queue!]

In the Rovers, Tyrone suggests to Maz that they could have a quiet night in, with a video, but Maz has a weekend with a friend in a country cottage planned - perhaps another time? Tyrone then tells Kevin about his secret: he's not seeing Katy, but she's seeing 'an older guy' and Tyrone has been covering for her. Kevin [who knows very well who this 'older guy' is] advises Tyrone to end the deception, right now, and Tyrone agrees. Ciaran and Sunita giggle at the bar. They've 'christened' [what can they mean?] the Corner Shop, so where now? Peter, fresh from his bout with Lucy, enters and pours himself a large whisky.

In the street, Tyrone catches up with Katy and tells her that he's no longer going to cover for her secret affair, much to Katy's discomfiture. [I can't wait to see what happens when Tommy finds out - fireworks are forecast.]

In the Rovers, Norris is still wittering on about Monty, the (female) cat he befriended. Apparently, Monty and his mistress are moving to Warrington soon, and Norris wants access rights. [The writer joins Emily and Rita in rolling eyes towards heaven.] Peter is still determined to retain contact with wee Simon, his son, but Ciaran advises caution. Does Peter want to go to court, if necessary? Yes, he does. Peter will stop at nothing to keep contact with Simon...

Sunday 14 September

Shelley is talking about raising a family with Peter and whether they can still live at the pub. When Shelley leaves he discusses it with Ciaran.

Ciaran tells Peter that he should look at Lucy's boyfriend as a blessing in disguise. However it is not what Peter wants. He wants to continue to raise the baby.

Jason tries to persuade Eileen once again to take the job back at StreetCars. She is adamant that she won't. She says she will go to the job centre tomorrow, and suggests that he comes with her. She laughs at the thought that they may bump into his dad!

Katie goes round to see Tyrone not to give up their pretend relationship. He is not interested.

Sarah is in the Street and sees Nick. (Now to say she is dressed casually, is an understatement!. She looks as if she is out for the evening trying to "pull" !). She won't go round to see her mother.

Emily persuades Norris to come to the church meeting. As Hayley passes she confirms that it is still ok to have the fundraising lunch at the cafe. Hayley seems a bit surprised (maybe Roy hadn't told her), but she says yes.

Peter goes round to see Lucy. He is not wanted. If she had known it was him, she wouldn't have left her front door ajar. She was expecting a girlfriend around. He says he wants to put things back to how they used to be before. he tries to apologise about Dan, but she doesn't trust him.

Martin goes round to see Gail. He tells her that Neil Fearns was in a road traffic accident and it was fatal. Nick asks who Neil Fearns is (I am sure you all remember - not !). He was the father of Sarah's Beth. Martin wants to know whether they should tell Sarah.

Peter once again pleads to Lucy.

They decide to tell her. Sarah seems to take it in quite calmly.

Hayley is concerned that Roy is not sleeping properly. She believes it is all to do with Tracy. So she has been to see Ken, and he confirms that Tracy is due to come back tomorrow.

Lucy comes in with her friend, Mandy. Peter is there looking after the baby. He tries to justify himself with Mandy.

Nick calls round to see Sarah. She is in another room, but he sees Todd and he says that Sarah has said nothing about it. When she comes into the room, Nick tries to get her to talk. She says Neil has nothing do with Beth.

Steve calls round to Eileen. He tries to apologise again for what happened and asks her to forgive him. He says this is the last time he will call. She finally agrees to start back tomorrow. When Steve goes, Jason (being quick off the mark!), asks her why she changed her mind. She says she was scared. Everything has been going wrong and she is scared. She therefore feels she has to work.

Kevin is in the Rovers with Tyrone, and Katie walks in. Kevin delights in pointing this out to Tyrone. Tyrone says he doesn't care, it is finished. Kevin, (trying to stir it) says that Tommy will want to know who the real boyfriend is. Tyrone says he doesn't care. It is nothing to do with him. Kevin says it is nothing to do with him. He turns to Martin for comment, and Martin announces he has to go.

At the fundraising dinner, there is the Vicar, Roy, Emily and Norris and Rita who has turned up a little late after being delayed by a drink in the Rovers! Roy provides a plate of brownies, he says Mrs Duckworth has kindly provided them. They all take one except the Vicar.

After Peter has gone, Lucy tells Mandy that Dan (her current boyfriend) is dying to get through the bedroom door. Mandy is surprised that he hasn't already been there. Lucy says "once bitten ...". Lucy admits she is getting a little fed up with him anyway. Mandy guesses that she is still holding a candle for Peter and reminds her that she is still legally married to him.

At the fundraising lunch everyone is giggling, and loosing their inhibitions (methinks it is something Vera put into the brownies - perhaps what Maz gave her?!).

As Tyrone and Kev leave the pub, Katie comes over to Tyrone and tells him who her secret lover is. Tyrone doesn't believe her, but finally the penny drops (but seems to stop halfway!). He is dumbstruck, lost for words.

Ciaran jokes with Peter about marrying a third woman. He thinks two is too easy for him!

Lucy tells Mandy that she will talk to Peter and maybe they will get it together again. She says she will go round to his shop, rather than asking him to come to her, for a change.

Anne has a double episode for you tomorrow .....

Monday 15 September

Hi everyone, here is the first of tonight's two exciting episodes.

We open in the back room of the pub with Betty bringing Ciaran a cup of tea. She checks her watch, it's half past ten, she wonders what Shelley and Peter are doing up there. Ciaran jokes with her that they both know what they're doing up there. Then Peter walks in with a very self satisfied smile on his face. Betty asks him what time he calls this. He tells her he calls it half past ten. Then Shelley comes in, still in her dressing gown and bids Peter a fond and tender farewell as he's off for a day at the races.

In the cafe Norris and Emily are pondering over their strange behaviour at the church social meeting and wondering what came over them.

Hayley and Roy are behind the counter talking about Tracey. Roy thinks that if she has tricked them to extort money, and there is no baby, then they should go to the police, she shouldn't be allowed to get away with it. Hayley thinks they should go to see her first and see what she's got to say for herself.

Vera and Jack are talking to Tyrone. Ty is thinking of going down to the allotment later to do a bit of digging. Jack asks if he's courting Maz or what? Tyrone isn't really sure. Vera doesn't reckon much to Maz's dress sense and thinks she could do something with her hair, but she's got a heart of gold.

Outside in the street Hayley sees Tracy getting out of a taxi. Peter comes along just at that moment and tells Tracy she's got the house to herself, Deirdre and Ken have gone to see Blanche. As Peter walks away he takes a phone call from Lucy and says he'll go over and see her. Over at Lucy's she is putting baby Simon in his cradle, telling him that Daddy is coming.

Shelley is in the back room of the pub, putting her wedding photos in an album. Betty comes in and tells her that to stay in bed half the morning while everyone else does the work is the start of the slippery slope. Shelley tells her they're starting a family. Betty tells her there won't be much lying-in then.

Peter arrives at Lucy's, worried that there is something the matter with Simon. She assures him that there is nothing wrong, and asks him to sit down. She tells him she's been working out how she feels and (shock!) she feels they should try again at being married. Peter looks distinctly uncomfortable!

Tyrone is talking to Kevin and finds out that Kevin knows what he knows, that Martin is seeing Katy. Kevin reckons that when Katy's dad finds out, he should be worried.

Across the street Martin is talking to Sarah, trying to persuade her to go to Neil Fearns' funeral. She says she hasn't got time and anyway she hasn't seen him in ages. Martin thinks that she should make time, seeing as he's Bethany's dad, and that she should go and say goodbye.

Peter, rather shaken, is talking to Lucy. Where has all this come from? He thought that she and Dan were getting close. She tells him that she's recently started to see the old Peter, the one she fell in love with, when she sees how good he is with Simon. She's rather embarrassed, she thought he had feelings for her. He tells her that he spent so long trying not to have feelings for her, after she kicked him out, he doesn't know what he feels any more (giving himself time to think, no doubt!) He says he wants to do what's best for the baby. She's shocked, he's turned her down. He tries to wriggle out of it, saying she deserves better than him (he never said a truer word!). He tries to make light of it, saying that if they're both free when Simon's ready to get married, they'll give it another go. Just then her friend arrives, and Peter makes a hasty exit.

In the cafe Roy and Vera are very busy when Hayley rushes in. She tells Roy she saw Tracy earlier, but has only just managed to get away from work. Roy whips off his apron and they rush off to see her.

Back at Lucy's flat, she is telling her friend what Peter said, and they decide he's confused and frightened (yes, possibly he is, but not in the way they think!) Lucy decides he's scared and just needs a push.

Hayley and Roy knock on Tracy's door. She opens it wearing only a towel. They tell her they need to talk to her, but she tells them she's just got out of the bath, and asks what they want. Roy wants to know what's going on, what has she done with their money? Hayley asks if she's used it to have an abortion, but Tracy tells them no, she used it to go on holiday, would they like to see her white bits? Roy declines, but asks if there is still a baby. Tracy tells her of course there is, she thought they'd approve of her keeping out of the way for a bit, relaxing. Too much stress is not good for the baby, and neither is standing on a doorstep half naked. Hayley wants to discuss the future, but Tracy doesn't, she says they have an agreement, nice and simple and will leave it at that. Goodbye.

In the cafe Katy comes in to talk to Martin. She tells him Tyrone knows, dismayed, Martin says they'll have to tell everyone now, as soon as her dad gets back. Katy wants to know why they can't carry on as they are, or move away, she wouldn't mind getting away from her family. Martin tells her to tell her mum that she and Tyrone have split up.

Outside the betting shop, Lucy bumps into Jack and asks where she can find Peter. Jack suggests she has a word with his wife. His wife? Lucy is puzzled. Yes, his wife Shelley in the pub. Lucy seems stunned.

In the pub, Betty is at the bar when Lucy walks in. Lucy orders a dry white wine and asks if Shelley is in, she tells Betty she's a friend. Tracy comes in, and as soon as Lucy spots her she orders her to come and sit down, despite Tracy's protests that she hasn't ordered a drink yet. Lucy tells her that someone just told her that Peter is married to Shelley. Tracy mumbles that she's been away on holiday and doesn't know what's been going on....... Lucy will have no excuses, she demands to know if it's true. Tracy admits that it is, and when Lucy tells her that he's married to her, Tracy points out he's married to both of them. Shelley comes into the bar, and after ascertaining that she doesn't know what Peter's been up to, Lucy goes up to the bar and reminds Shelley that she's the florist. Shelley remembers that Lucy did the flowers for her sister's funeral and thanks her. After getting the drinks, Shelley starts talking to Tracy about the wedding photos and tells Lucy that Tracy was one of her bridesmaids. Lucy enquires when the wedding was, and is told it was on 20th July. Shelley rushes off the get the album, but after looking at just one or two photos Lucy has to go and sit down. Tracy goes to see if she's all right, and Lucy wants to know why Tracy never said anything. Tracy insists its because Peter told her he was getting a divorce, he can make anything sound plausible. She asks what Lucy is going to do, but Lucy doesn't know, and rushes out.

At the Harris's house, Katy is telling her mum that she has split with Tyrone. Her mum wants to know why, and Katy tells her it just wasn't working out. Who dumped who, Angie wants to know. She's told it was mutual. Her mum thinks Tyrone was too old for Katy - (she's in for a shock then) - and that Katy is more upset about it than she's letting on.

Down at the allotment Tyrone has met Bernie Allbright, the allotment inspector. Tyrone wants to know if that's like the vice squad. Bernie tells him that accusations have been made, serious accusations. Like murder, wonders Tyrone? More serious than that, it's said he's been subletting, a cardinal sin in the eyes of the allotment committee, and if he has then it's curtains for Jack. He'll be stripped of his allotment and have all his produce confiscated, and then he'll never plant in this town again! He should think on. We then see that Maz has been watching all this, peeping out from behind the greenhouse. When Bernie has gone she comes up to Tyrone and tells him they call Bernie the Gestapo.

In the Rovers, Tracy tells Ciaran that Lucy has found out what Peter's been up to. They are just talking about warning Peter, when Lucy comes back in. Ciaran is afraid she's there to make a scene and tries to get her to leave, telling her he'll talk to Peter and send him round to her flat, but Lucy won't leave and orders a large gin and tonic. In the back room, Betty is about to go home, and is saying goodbye to Shelley who is sitting at the table putting her make up on.

Out in the bar, Emily and Norris are talking about making contributions to the church fund. Emily wants to see the Reverend to apologise for her behaviour on Sunday afternoon. Norris has worked out that it must have been Vera's cakes that made them all act so strangely as the Reverend didn't have any and he was fine.

Shelley comes into the bar and sees Lucy. Lucy asks if Shelley finished putting all the photos in the wedding album, and asks for another look. Shelley brings back the album to show her, telling her it was the happiest day of her life. Looking a little pained, Lucy asks if she would like to see hers, she whips out a wedding photo of her and Peter and shows a stunned Shelley. She tells her, 'Shelley love, it looks like we're married to the same man!'

Shelley is having trouble believing what she's seeing and hearing and thinks it must be some kind of sick joke. Ciaran suggests they go through to the back so they do, and as soon as they're out of the way he tells Tracy they have to try and contact Peter. He's working so he gives Tracy the phone and tells her to do it.

In the back room Shelley tells Lucy her wedding pictures could have been taken anywhere, at a race meeting for example, after all there's no church or vicar or anything. Lucy explains it was a register office wedding, but if she wants proof she can ask her bridesmaid, Tracy, who is out there in the bar. Shelley wonders why, if they are married as she says, that Peter isn't living with her. Lucy says how she found out he was still engaged to Shelley two days after the wedding and threw him out. Shelley asks when this wedding took place, and when she hears it was the day of her sister's funeral she seems almost convinced for a moment that it couldn't have happened, because Peter was there, with her and lots of other people. Lucy tells her how the wedding was at 1.30 pm but that Peter was late. Shelley looks dismayed, and then horrified as Lucy tells her they even have a child, and shows the photo of baby Simon.

Out in the bar, Ciaran and Tracy are still trying to phone Peter, but are unable to get through. Tyrone comes in and goes up to Jack and Vera. He tells Jack that Bernie Allbright is on the warpath, he knows someone else is using Jack's greenhouse.

Roy and Hayley come in and see Tracy, they want to talk to her. Hayley is all for going straight over but Roy insists that it's commercial etiquette and they must buy drinks first, so they order two orange juices from Ciaran. As he goes off to serve them Tracy asks what she should say if she manages to get through. Ciaran's says to ask him if he knows a quick way to leave the country!

In the back room Lucy is telling Shelley how Peter regularly comes over and looks after Simon. She lies then, telling Shelley how Peter wants them to get back together so they can be a proper family. Shelley asks that if all that's true, after she threw him out, why did Lucy let him keep coming round. She hears that Peter was desperate to see the baby, wanting to be a proper father to him. Shelley asks if, when he came round, they 'behaved' as if they were still married? Lucy assures her they weren't sleeping together. But she is the legal wife, she married him first. She tells Shelley her marriage to Peter is a farce in the eyes of the law, it was just a fancy dress party. Shelley can't believe Lucy didn't know he was in another relationship. Lucy admits its funny that he never mentioned it! She asks where Peter is, and Shelley tells her he's at a race meeting. Is Peter really the father of Lucy's baby? Lucy wishes he wasn't, but he is.

In the bar, Ciaran and Tracy are wondering what's going on in the back room. Roy and Hayley come over and ask Tracy for a private word. They ask her how they can be sure the pregnancy is still continuing. Tracy is having a scan tomorrow, would Roy like to come along. Somewhat taken aback, Roy says yes, he would.

Jack is going off to see Bernie Allbright with Tyrone. Norris comes in and sees Vera. He asks about the brownies Vera baked for Emily's church meeting. Vera asks if he enjoyed them. Well, no, they made him behave in a very peculiar fashion, but Vera's never known him behave any other way!

In the back room Shelley is asking Lucy how she found out. Lucy explains how she went to the shop looking for Peter and someone suggested she go and ask his wife. When Shelley says she thought it was always Peter going to her place, Lucy tells her that recently he's been talking about them getting back together (oooh! the little liar!) and she'd come to give him her answer. Shelley wonders what the answer would have been, but Lucy prefers not to worry about that now. Shelley asks her to go, she wants to see Peter alone, but Lucy refuses to go, she wants to see him too, she'll either wait in there, or out in the bar.

Outside, we see Peter walking nonchalantly down the street, whistling. He tells Emily he's going straight in the back door so he's not tempted to have a quick drink as he goes through the bar. He steps inside the door, calling Shelley. Opening the living room door he stops dead - speechless! There are his two wives sitting at the table. Lucy comments that here he is, the husband! He finally manages to ask what's going on? Shelley asks him if it's true, is he married to her? He says he supposes he is.

In the bar Ciaran tells Tracy he missed Peter, he came in the back door. Tracy shrugs, well at least he tried.

In the back room Peter is trying to defend himself, he says he never planned any of it, he was going out with Shelley when he met Lucy and fell for her. He did tell Shelley.... Yes, Shelley reminds him he told her he had finished it before Christmas, but it wasn't, he married Lucy in March. Peter whinges that he was going to tell her but then her sister died (how inconsiderate) and so he couldn't. She is aghast and angry that he left her sister's funeral and went and married Lucy. Peter carries on trying to explain that then Lucy kicked him out, it was over, so he didn't see the point in telling Shelley then, he would just get a divorce. Shelley points out that he didn't though, did he? Peter says no, because he found out they have to be married for twelve months before they can get a divorce, and Shelley wouldn't have liked wait that long, would she? Lucy points out that its either her fault or Shelley's, never Peter's. Shelley wants to know why Peter still goes round to see Lucy. He denies it at first, but then explains that it's to see Simon. Shelley wants to know that if that's all, why didn't he tell Lucy about her and him. Lucy wonders if it's some sort of syndrome, when he married her he wanted Shelley, and when he married Shelley he wanted her. Peter admits it's all his fault, and now that they all know, what do they do now?

Emily and Norris are in the bar, concluding that it must have been Vera's brownies that made them act so strangely.

Then Maria comes in and sees Nick having a drink with Todd. Nick tells Maria he's not going to London now.

Emily and Norris approach Vera and tell her that those that ate the brownies behaved oddly. Vera takes umbrage at first, then Emily asks if it was her own recipe. Vera admits she added some herbs, and goes off to get them.

In the back room Lucy is preparing to go, she says that Peter can pay for his son for the rest of his life, but he's never going to see him or her again. She points out that he took Shelley as second best after she threw him out.

Nick is trying to chat up Maria, telling her she looks terrific, and can he take her out to dinner. She declines, and departs.

Vera has returned with her bag of 'herbs', and they call Ciaran over, he's a chef, he would know what they are. He tells them it's cannabis. Shocks all round!

Shelley and Peter are talking things over. Shelley admits she was in a state about her sister's death, but it's been ages since then and he could have told her. He stammers that he would have done, but....... She tells him that when he had a free choice he chose Lucy. He points out that he came back to her, but she tells him only when Lucy kicked him out. Shelley wants Peter to go. What move out? Yes, Shelley is shouting by now. She can never trust him again, even now he's twisting and turning things. It was a sham of a marriage, a farce of a marriage, one that he begged and pleaded with her to go through, when he already knew he was married to Lucy. And all this talk of trying to start a family when he already had one. Well he can go to them now, because she never wants to see him again, he can get out!

In the bar, Vera is on the phone to the police, worried that she may be arrested for drug dealing at any minute. Ciaran has a quiet word with Peter at the foot of the stairs. Peter says as far as they're concerned, he's the lowest of the low. (Agreed!)

Vera is telling the police about Maz and how she can be found at the allotment. She warns Emily and Norris not to tell Jack or Tyrone as they'll tip her off.

Ciaran goes back to the bar and tells Tracy about Peter going. He's gone from two wives to none at all.

Outside, a somewhat deflated Peter gets into his car. Lucy is in her flat, crying and putting the baby in his cradle. Shelley is on the sofa in the back room of the pub, sobbing.

And that's all folks! Phew!

Wednesday 17 September

Tonight's episode starts, not surprisingly in the Rovers, Shelley has had a bad night and is having a good cry when mum returns and asking what has happened.

In the cafe Peter Barlow (boo hiss) is having breakfast accompanied by Ciaran, in the background Vera is on the phone, to the police I think, about the "herbs" that Maz has grown, suggesting that they have a look at the allotment, as Vera puts the phone down Haley appears from upstairs and Roy asks her why she was so quiet, Haley says it is because he was reading - today is the scan for Tracy.

Sunita meanwhile has brought in Peter Barlow's gear as she does not want him staying in her and Ciaran's flat for another night and by her comments lets Ciaran know she was not over the moon with Peter being there.

Back at the Rovers Shelley is telling mum all about Peters two wives, at least she has a shoulder to cry on now.

At Lucy's her friend Mandy is there and Mandy is surprised that Lucy is going to work - Lucy however wants revenge!

At Todd and Sarah's flat Nick has spent the night there as Todd is just leaving. Nick is not sure he should have come back - because of Maria?

Back in the cafe Tracy is having breakfast which includes a glass of water as Roy has read that water should be drunk by mothers to be having an ultrascan, Peter is asking Tracy if he can stay at Ken and Deirdre's as they are away. Tracy is not keen on this.

Tyrone and Jack come in here and are asked by Vera if they are going to the allotment and if Maz will be there and at what time. Tyrone says to Jack that Vera scares him sometimes - Jack replies that she scares him all the time..... With regard to the allotment Jack says he should appear possessive - could be a mistake here Jack.

At the Rovers Betty is trying to get the story from Bet there is a knock at the door and Ciaran comes in and maintains he knew nothing about what was going on with Peter and his two wives. Shelley gets as far as opening the door to the Rovers at opening time but finds it all too much.

At the hospital Tracy has turned up for the ultrascan and asks the nurse if the date of conception could be learnt from the scan, when she finds out it can be she asks for this information to be kept from Roy. When Roy is asked in he appears to be in a highly nervous state and knocks a display stand over in his eagerness to get there.

At the allotment Tyrone is doing the work while Jack is reading the rules and regulations regarding allotments. Jack thinks some of the rules are daft - scarecrows not to be too garishly dressed for instance!

Tyrone mentions that a couple of police are coming this way, Jack tells Tyrone to get on with the work.

Back in the street Nick is going past the salon as Maria and Candice are outside, Maria is not too interested but did Candice seem interested here!

Peter Barlow is about to put his kit in Kens house when he decides to go a few paces up to the Rovers to see Shelley, luckily for him, Ciaran sees him about to go in and advises him it would not be the wisest thing to do. Pete wants to explain but Ciaran thinks that Shelley would not be in a mood for explanations.

At the hospital Roy is looking at the image of the baby and overcome with emotion says "hello" to the image on the scanner.

Back at the allotment the police have arrived at Jacks patch and he is proudly telling them that the greenhouse is his and very possessive he is about it, even when one of the police asks if anyone else has access to it he still maintains all in the greenhouse is his work, here Jack is arrested as the greenhouse is full of cannabis!

In the Rovers Sunita has turned up to give Shelley some sympathy. Bet wished Shelley was more angry about what has happened.

Back at the cafe Nick is cutting up his credit cards, Candice comes in for refreshment and is joined by Nick - could this be the start of a new relationship?

At the Rovers Vera is trying to find out what has happened between Pete and Shelley, Ciaran to change the subject asks Vera about the "pot plants" - Vera answers that they have all gone! Ciaran says to Bet (Shelley's mum) that he will be prepared to work a double shift in view of what has been going on when in walks Peter (death wish) Barlow, Bet not surprisingly is not pleased to see him but he wants to see Shelley and explain. Peter will not take no for an answer and is determined to tell Shelley he is sorry, Bet is having none of this and gets Ciaran to see him off the premises.

Tyrone rushes in here in a bit of state to tell Vera about Jack being arrested.

Back at Todd and Sarah's flat Nick is there giving Todd hints about how to do the washing up. Sarah then appears and has decided to go to Nick Fearns funeral, he is the father of Bethany.

At the Rovers Jack has been released and he is swearing death and mutilation on Maz and whoever told the police - watch out Vera!

At Lucy's Mandy is still there and Shelley has turned up, she wants to see Simon and tells Lucy that they were trying for a baby and what is the baby's surname. The atmosphere is quite heated with Shelley blaming Lucy for the breakup. Shelley smashes a glass which starts the baby crying, Lucy reminds Shelley that the baby like her and Shelley are innocent victims of Peters conniving.

Upstairs at Roy's Rolls Haley asks Roy if everything went ok with the scan as he is being very quiet about it. Roy is still overcome with the possibility of being a father and has deliberately underplayed the effect it has had on him, he also has a photo of the scan which Tracy made him pay £50.00 for. Roy also wants Haley to accompany him next time.

Lucy and Shelley are getting on better now and Lucy is getting Shelley round to her way of thinking - that is to get revenge on the way that Peter has lied and cheated to them both. Lucy suggests that they should be allies rather than enemies. The episode ends with Shelley saying that Peters worst nightmare would be him against the pair of them.

That's all folks!

Friday 19 September

Morning in the Rovers, and Lucy arrives to see Shelley. [Lucy looks like she's a woman with a mission.] Bev tells an interested Betty that, yes, that woman used to be a friend of Peter's, and now he has no friends left.

In the cafˇ, Roy is phoning for an appointment with a solicitor. Hayley learns that Maya Sharma is a woman, and maybe they'd be better off with a male solicitor in the particular circumstances. Never mind, Hayley will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Roy; she'll go with him to see Ms Sharma.

Chez Duckworth, and Vera is giving Jack a piece of her mind about the cannabis incident. She then turns her attention to Tyrone: since he's such good pals with Maz, it's up to him to get Jack off the hook. There is a knock on the door - the police. (While Vera answers the door, Jack asks Tyrone just "how good mates" he and Maz are, but Tyrone disappoints Jack by admitting that they're just pals.) The police inform Jack that they're taking the matter to court and, since the address they had for Maz was false, it'll be Jack who'll be facing charges. Vera tells - orders - Tyrone to go and see Maz, for her to clear Jack's name.

Todd's flat, and he's not well pleased that Sarah and little Bethany are going to Neil Fearns' funeral. Sarah explains to him [and Nick agrees] that, in years to come, Bethany will want to know about her biological Dad, and she'll be able to tell her that she was at his funeral.

The Barlow home, and Ciaran comes to call on Peter, who has taken up temporary residence there, with Tracy, while Ken and Deirdre are off on holiday. Peter still thinks that he can get back with Shelley. [Ciaran thinks not!] Peter thinks that Shelley must still love him and pleads with Ciaran to 'put in a good word' for him with Shelley if he gets the right moment. ['Tis better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all - much better!]

At a local police station, a couple of young women arrive, with documentary evidence, to make a complaint of bigamy against a certain Mr Peter Barlow. [They love me, they love me not, they...]

Roy and Hayley call to see the solicitor, Ms Sharma, and outline the circumstances they find themselves in. They want to know their rights, regarding Tracy's yet-unborn child. [Ms Sharma remarks: "... drunk, but not incapable!"]

The Barlow domicile, and Shelley phones Peter, who promises to 'do whatever' to save their marriage. One o'clock at the Rovers? No problem... Tracy warns Peter that Shelley is 'not that stupid', but Peter is determined to keep the appointment. [Will he be welcomed with open arms?]

Ms Sharma explains to Roy and Hayley that, legally, they have no rights whatsoever with regard to the child that Tracy is carrying. Her best advice is to keep Tracy 'sweet' [mmm - struggle and uphill are words which spring to mind] and that she'll have a think, then they'll talk again.

Sarah and little Bethany are at the cemetery for Neil's interment, Sarah standing back a bit from the graveside with wee Bethany in her arms. Neil's Mum spies them and comes over to thank Sarah for coming. Mrs Fearns persuades Sarah to come for something to eat; they have much to talk about.

In the Rovers, Les and Kirk quiz Jack about his 'wacky baccy' but Jack is not amused; it could mean a jail sentence for him. Ciaran mentions that 'people in glasshouses should never get stoned'. Peter arrives to see Shelley, a huge bunch of flowers in hand. [Were they purchased in a local flower shop, I wonder?] Bev, who obviously knows what is going on, ushers a gullible Peter into the back room, where he is met with the open arms --- of the Law.

Hayley tells Roy that, although they have no legal claim on the baby, they're going to fight, together, to have the little one as their own.

In a local restaurant, Mrs Fearns and Sarah get to know each other, and Sarah admits that life is hard at the moment. [Meanwhile, little Bethany, in a wee black dress, sits on her Mum's lap and sucks her thumb - so cute!] It transpires that Mrs Fearns is now on her own, Mr Fearns having left her some two years ago for a younger woman. A friend of Mrs Fearns' tells Sarah that Neil's Mum now has nothing to live for...

Peter is led away by the police, while Shelley, Lucy and a few others look on. Lucy asks Shelley if she has any regrets. No. [Shades of Edith Piaf - je ne regrette rien.]

Back in the restaurant, Mrs Fearns looks upon meeting Sarah and Bethany as a miracle. Could Sarah allow her to visit Bethany, her grandchild, now and again? Sarah agrees.

At the allotment, Tyrone meets Maz, who's packing up and heading for the hills. Tyrone tries to persuade her to go to the police and admit her guilt, but she is not willing to do that. Tyrone wonders if he should 'grass' her to the cops... [I promised myself I wouldn't stoop to such obvious puns!]

Peter is faced with the evidence of his bigamy by the police, and he admits his guilt.

Tyrone again pleads with Maz to 'come clean' about the cannabis, but again she refuses, and turns on her wily feminine charms; she's a free spirit and a free spirit couldn't survive a spell being locked-up. Maz drags a willing Tyrone into her clutches and plants [sorry about that!] a lingering kiss on his lips, with the promise of 'more to come'. Tyrone immediately forgets about Jack.

Peter is still 'helping the police with their enquiries' and relates that all he wanted to do was to make people happy. The police make clear that bigamy is a criminal offence, and that they'll be submitting a report to the CPS. (Crown Prosecution Service.) Peter is advised to listen to his defense solicitor, Mr Suffolk, for bigamy, if proven, means a custodial sentence. For the moment, Peter is released on police bail, so he is free to go. For the moment!

Sunday 21 September

Tonight's episode was quite good.

The main topics was about Peter's arrest on Friday's episode for bigamy. Peter went to see Shelly, who gave him 5 mins in the back room of the Rovers. She then threw him out, saying she never wanted to see him again!

Norris was being his nosey self, & Shelly was now in no mood for him. She shouted at him, then ordered everyone to leave the Rovers.

Their was a comedy moment in the Rovers between Fizz & Kirk. He got on bout hearing voices in his head & asked Fizz what hers sound like.

In the mean time, Tyrone went to see Maz, to talk about her going to the Police to confess that she grew the cannabis plants, so that Jack would be let off the hook. However, she had her bag packed then admitted to Tyrone that she used him for her own needs, & if he wanted to contact her than she would be somewhere in the sky LOL. [If only Tyrone had the sense to write down the registration number, before they drove off, then he could have passed that information onto the police.] Instead, he went back to Coronation Street, where he told Jack & Vera that she had left the area. Tyrone broke down, so Vera's heart melted & gave him a hug.

The solicitor who is helping Roy & Hayley popped into the cafe. She said she had been speaking to a friend, who suggested that the best way to have a chance in getting the child, is for Roy to marry Tracy. Straight away they said no! She left bumping into Dev, whose eyes lit up. [Guess what? Another romance for Dev beckons with a solicitor. This time he best be very careful.]

Todd & Sarah received a visit from Bethany's other granny. You see Bethany's Dad was killed in a car crash last week, so Sarah took Beth to the funeral, where she met his mum. Sarah said it would be ok for her to visit anytime (mainly because she felt sorry for her). [Be aware fans, because this is already causing a strain on the relationship, due to Todd not liking the idea. Perhaps Nick will comfort him?!!?]

Coronation Street ended, when Shelly went to see Lucy again. They decided that Peter's arrest wasn't enough, so planned to get even more revenge.

Stay tuned for more gossip on Britain's best loved street.

Monday 22 September

Hi everyone, here's the first of tonight's two exciting episodes.

We open outside the Rovers' with Shelley putting up a poster advertising a 'Happy Hour' between 6 - 7 pm that evening. Lucy arrives in her florists van, and asks if she's all set? Shelley reckons the poster should get the customers in. Fred comes up, and scolds Shelley for shutting up the pub the day before. Shelley explains that the 'Happy Hour' is by way of an apology. Fred says he knows there's been ructions, but he can't countenance a marital rift getting in't road of folk suppin'.

Martin runs up to Katy in the street. He asks her if she's nervous about this evening. They're telling both of their families tonight. Just then a car drives up and out get Tommy and Craig, just arrived home. Tommy hugs his daughter, and as she hurries off he says proudly to Martin that she'll be 17 soon. (A fact Martin is only too aware of!) Martin tells Tommy he'll come round this evening at 6 o'clock, they'll go out for a drink.

Kevin and Tyrone come walking along the street, on their way to work. They wonder whether Martin's told Tommy, as he made such a quick exit. Tyrone reckons he didn't or he would have been holding his head.

Inside the Harris's house Tommy hugs Angela, and she tells him that Katy's dumped Tyrone. He says he's glad. Katy and Craig come downstairs as their parents are greeting each other with a kiss.

At the Barlow's, Tracy is talking to Peter. She tells him he's a pillock, and he should have thought about his victims. He tells her that it was thinking about his victims that got him into this mess, he didn't want to hurt either of them. Tracy tells him that Ken and Deirdre are coming back today. Shall she tell them? Peter tells her no, it's between him and his Dad.

Brenda (Neil Fearns' mum) arrives, yet again, at Sarah and Todd's flat, to see Bethany. They politely offer her a cup of tea, although they are clearly surprised to see her again so soon. She's brought them a toaster she said she wasn't using. Todd thinks it looks new and wonders if she bought it specially. Then he goes off to work.

Mike is at the factory talking to Preston King, the customer who Harry Flagg revived when he had a heart attack. Preston is looking for knickers, but will only deal with Harry, who he thinks must be Mike's right hand man. Mike is horrified! He tries to tell Preston that Harry is only the cleaner, but Preston will have none of it. He will deal with Harry, a diamond geezer, or no one, and Mike is to tell him to meet Preston at the Italian restaurant at the precinct at 5 pm.

Out in the street, Ken and Deirdre have arrived on their own doorstep, and wonder what might await them. Ken comments that things shouldn't be too bad, after all he left Peter keeping an eye on Tracy! They see the poster for the 'Happy Hour' and Deirdre thinks they should go along, and see how Peter and Shelley are getting along.

Tommy and Tyrone are at work at the garage. Tommy tells Ty he's glad he and Katy have split up, the thought Ty was too old for Katy, after all she's still at school. Tyrone remarks that Tommy doesn't like the idea of Katy with an older man then. (I think he's got a shock coming!) Tommy goes off and Tyrone tells Kevin that Martin obviously hasn't told him yet. Kev asks if Tyrone has said anything. Tyrone tells him he hasn't got a death wish!

Mike tells Harry that Preston will only deal with him. Harry protests that he doesn't know anything about textiles. Mike urges Harry to go to the restaurant with Preston, he gives him a mobile phone and tells him to go into the gents every 10 minutes or so to ring Mike and let him know what's going on. He tells him to invent a prostate problem. Harry is not happy about this, and asks if Mike can't be at another table or something to help him, something like on 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire', Mike could sit close and cough! That would be no good, Preston knows Mike. There are two rules - one, work from the price list, the bigger the order the lower the price, and two, no alcohol. Preston can drink like an elephant, Harry mustn't touch any. This order is very, very important.

Shelley tells Rita about 'Happy Hour', although Norris has already told Rita several times. Shelley hopes Rita will come, it's going to be a memorable night.

Karen is talking to the factory girls. Steve comes up and taking her aside, asks why the bill from her solicitor is twice as high as the bill from his. Janice overhears them talking. Karen tells her she wants a big white wedding. Janice tells her they could both go to prison for lying to the court about the state of their marriage and the subsequent 'divorce'. Karen is worried.

Tyrone and Kevin come round the corner in a car, and meet Martin walking along. Martin informs them he's telling Tommy tonight. Tyrone reckons Martin is asking for trouble, Tommy though Tyrone was too old. Get ready to run Martin, he'll rip you in half!

Katy and Martin are walking down the street, trying to give each other courage for what they have to do this evening. She urges him to remember, her dad won't be able to split them up. Sarah comes round the corner, so Martin departs. Sarah asks Katy if she's still seeing Tyrone. Katy tells her she's not. Sarah wants to know if she's seeing anyone else. Katy looks coy and tells her she's in a mad rush and has to go. Sarah wants to know what Katy is doing for her birthday later this week, Katy doesn't know.

Harry is at the restaurant with Preston. He tells Preston he'll have to be making frequent trips to the gents. Preston exclaims that that's something they have in common, he has prostate trouble too and will be coming with him every time! Preston's mobile phone rings, he switches it off, and demands that Harry hands his mobile phone over. He switches that off too. Drinks arrive. Preston insists that Harry joins him in several toasts. Harry Flagg, Preston's saviour!

Karen and Steve are discussing the possibility of prison. Karen decides they'll have to make people think they've really split up.

In the pub, Fred asks Shelley if she's ok, she's quiet, is she brooding about something? She says she's fine, just conserving her energy, she feels it's going to be a really big night.

Harry and Preston meanwhile, are knocking back toasts to everyone at the hospital and even the defibrillator! Harry is getting more and more inebriated.

In the pub Shelley is talking to Rita and Norris, and promising entertainment later. Fred is puzzled, he didn't know anything about that.

Over at a table, Nick and Todd are having a drink and a chat about Neal Fearns' mum and her frequent visits. Nick wonders if Todd isn't really worried about the responsibility of being a family man. Todd says no, except there are more bills and expenses than he was expecting. Nick tells him he'll get used to it.

Over at the factory Mike is quizzing Harry about the evening. He is aghast that Harry is drunk, he told him not to drink. He must have blown it. Harry tells him he has an order for 30,000. (Pairs of knickers, presumably!) Mike wants to know if Harry gave him a price for 30,000. No, he gave him the 5,000 price. Mike is ecstatic and offers Harry the job of assistant manager.

Peter and Sally are coming out of the bookies at the end of the working day. Tracy comes rushing up, she's just seen Ken and Deirdre going into the Rovers. Peter rushes off, leaving Sally to lock up, yet again.

At the Harris's Tommy is urging Katy not to mope round the house but to go out and have some fun. He goes off upstairs to get changed, Martin will be arriving in a minute.

In the Rovers Betty is welcoming back Ken and Deirdre. All the regulars are talking amongst themselves when Peter rushes in. He tries to talk to Ken but Shelley rings the bell for their attention. Peter tries again to talk to Ken but is brushed aside, Ken wants to listen to Shelley. She tells them she's glad they could all make it, lots of them were guests at her wedding. Her wedding day is the happiest day of a girl's life, and if she's lucky, if she's found a good 'un, she'll live happily ever after. Her wedding day was the happiest day of her life, but unfortunately she's not found a good 'un, there'll be no living happily ever after, her marriage was a sham. Lucy enters at this point, carrying baby Simon. Shelley continues, telling them that unfortunately Peter neglected to tell her he was still married to someone else, and she introduces them to Lucy Barlow, Peter's secret wife, and Simon, Peter's secret son. Gasps and gaping mouths all round!!

Out in the street, Martin in plucking up the courage to go to Katy's house. He goes and rings the doorbell. Katy lets him in, telling him her dad will be down in a minute. Craig, sitting on the sofa, wants to know what they're whispering about. He's told to mind his own business. Angie comes down, and repeats that Tommy won't be long. Tommy comes down, and a hesitant, faltering Martin tells them there's something they need to know. He puts his arm round Katy and holds her hand. Her parents look startled. Martin tells them that he and Katy are in love. Just as in the Rovers, it's shocked looks and gaping mouths all round!!

Here is episode 2.

We start again in the Harris's living room. Martin has his arm round Katy. Angie asks weakly if this is some kind of joke. Martin, nervy and breathless tells her that they love each other. Katy echoes this. Craig bursts out laughing and a furious Angie orders him upstairs.

In the pub, Lucy asks Peter to introduce her to his family and friends. He protests that this is daft. Lucy tells Ken and Deirdre that the baby, Simon, is their grandson, and apologises for not inviting them to the wedding, only she was led to believe that they didn't approve. She knows now that they didn't know about it. She suggests they ask Peter to explain. Deirdre apologises to Shelley for Peter's behaviour, and then she and Ken leave. Tracy follows them out with the parting shot that Lucy and Shelley they make one hell of a double act. Bev comes in as the crowd disperse, asking what's going on? Shelley tells her it's Happy Hour, two drinks for the price of one, and adds, 'I know that's big o' me, but that's the kind of girl I am!'

Over at the Harris's, a stunned Tommy is in the hallway, taking his jacket off, slowly. Angie demands to know how long this has been going on. Martin hedges, saying how they tried to put barriers up, how they tried to keep their distance. Angie shouts at him to tell her how long it's all be going on. Tommy tells Martin to let go of Katy's hand, or he'll break every one of his fingers. He asks Katy if she's pregnant. Katy says her parents would prefer it if she was pregnant by a dozy 16 yr old. Angie comments that at least she's rehearsed that conversation. Katy insists that this is a mature (?) and sensible (?) relationship. Tommy tells Martin to go, but Martin doesn't want to, he wants to stay and explain, to talk it through. Tommy tells Martin, ok, then outside, now, just the two of them, man to man. Martin (wisely) wants to talk inside like adults. Katy wants Martin to go, she says her dad only wants to go outside so he won't get blood on the carpet. Tommy goes out into the garden and Martin decides he'll have to go out there too. Angela is very angry, she tells Martin he was supposed to be Tommy's mate, someone he could trust.

Chez Barlow, Ken and Peter are sitting at the table. Ken says he thought of that poor girl as one of the family. Tracy wonders which one, but is told not to be funny. Deirdre thinks she's probably glad now that she isn't, given their history. Peter tries to explain that he was going to finish with Shelley before he married Lucy, but her sister died (how inconsiderate!) and then he couldn't dump her. Tracy continues to make flippant remarks and Peter has a go at her. Deirdre leaps to Tracy's defence for once until Peter tells her that Tracy was a bridesmaid at both weddings. Ken groans and asks Deirdre where they went wrong? (Well.....we could tell him, how long has he got?)

In the pub, Shelley is serving drinks. Ciaran comes in and asks what they're celebrating. Shelley tells him they're exposing a two timing, two faced, two foot tall little toe rag! Norris pipes up that Ciaran will never guess what's just happened, but Ciaran tells him he thinks he might. Shelley asks where Ciaran has been but without waiting for an answer tells him to get to work. Fred starts worrying who's paying for all these free drinks. Shelley and Lucy tell him they are, its kind of a tradition.

In the Harris's garden, Craig is hanging out of his bedroom window making sure he has a good view. Tommy is out there and Angie comes out of the house. Tommy asks if Martin has gone. She tells his no, she can't convince him to go. Martin and Katy come out, with Katy worrying about what her dad might do to Martin. Angie tells Tommy that the more he hits Martin the more Katy will love him and hate Tommy and Angie, she tells him not to make himself into the bad guy and to fight with his head, and she didn't mean to butt him. She makes him promise not to lose his temper. She and Katy go inside, but Katy threatens that if her dad hits Martin she will call the police. Once in the kitchen Angie asks Katy to sit down and explain how she got herself into this mess. Out in the garden, Martin and Tommy are squaring up, nose to nose.

Over at the Rover's Shelley is explaining to Fred (and anyone else who is listening) how Peter left her sister's funeral to go and marry Lucy. Norris is telling Karen how Peter can expect a custodial sentence, for making a mockery out of the holy sanctity of marriage. He knows all about the law since his stint of jury service. Karen is very worried and tells Steve, when he returns to their table, to go and sit elsewhere, so people don't see them together. Steve protests that no one in the Rover's cares about them, they are more interested in Peter. Karen jumps up, shouting, and delivers a hefty slap to poor, unsuspecting Steve's face, and then she rushes out.

In the garden, Martin is telling Tommy he knows how he must feel. Tommy says he has no idea, but just let him get his hands on Sarah, Martin's 16 yr old daughter, let him take her to bed, then Martin will know how Tommy's feeling. Martin protests it wasn't like that, so Tommy demands to know if Martin's slept with Katy. Martin evades the question for a while, pleading again that he tried to stop it, and anyway, Tommy wouldn't want the gory details. Tommy demands that he answer the question and in the end Martin admits that he has slept with Katy but it wasn't anything dirty. Tommy eventually loses his temper and punches Martin, knocking him backwards through the garden fence. Craig, watching all this from the upstairs window, rushes downstairs and out into the garden, closely followed by Angie and Katy.

Over at the Harris's, they have all come in from the garden, Martin with a bloody lip. The argument continues, with Tommy saying that if he had a gun he would shoot Martin. Martin reckons they should respect him and Katy for telling them the truth. Tommy points out there are many nurses Martin's age at the hospital, but he likes the little ones, like Katy. He comments that Sarah was only 12 when she got pregnant, which makes one wonder. Martin and Katy explode that Tommy's sick to think that. Martin tells Tommy that if he wants him to stop loving his daughter he will have to kill him. Martin then leaves.

Craig comes downstairs but is chased back up immediately by an angry Tommy. Martin, outside the front door, is wiping his lip.

Over the road, Steve is picking up the bags of his clothes, watched by Eileen. Karen shouts out of the window. Eileen asks what he's done and Karen asks what she thinks he's done. Eileen then slaps Steve. Steve and Karen give each other the thumbs up sign.

Katy is talking to her mum, telling her she's a grown woman in love with a grown man. Angie reckons Martin took advantage of Katy and it won't be long before she finds herself stuck with a man more than twice her age, who she has nothing in common with. It won't last. Katy tells her she's nothing to worry about then, has she? Tommy comes down the stairs and asks Katy if it was when she had the diabetic coma that Martin first came on to her. Katy says no, that was when he saved her life.

Over at the Barlow's, Ken is asking if he had to be made best man? He'd put his heart and soul into his speech. Deirdre points out that lots of people spent a lot of money on wedding presents too. Tracy reckons she was the devil incarnate for sleeping with one man for one night, whereas Peter has married two women till death do us part and he gets the best whisky to drown his sorrows. Peter reckons no one can make him feel worse than he already does, he knows he's ruined is own life as well as everybody else's and has lost everything. Deirdre reckons he should now find somewhere else to stay.

In the back room of the pub, Lucy is preparing to take Simon home to bed. Shelley is worried that they humiliated Ken and Deirdre and made a laughing stock of themselves. Lucy assures her that they didn't.

At the Harris's, Lucy wants to go out, but Tommy tells her she's not going. He's double locked the front door and locked all the windows. Katy isn't going anywhere till he knows that she and Martin Platt are history!

Wednesday 24 September

Tonight's episode begins with breakfast at the Harris's . All are downstairs except for Katy, they are discussing the goings on, at least Tommy and Angela are and trying to keep Craig out of it. Katy then comes down - mum and son go out to work and school leaving Tommy locking the doors afterwards to keep Katy in.

As Angela and Craig are going down the street Martin is coming out of the corner shop and walks across to say hello to Angela - hardly a wise decision! Angela is not too friendly in her response to Martins attempt at conversation and she carries on to tell Kevin that Tommy will not be in today. Kevin however, puts two and two together (not bad going for him!) and realizes Martin has told Tommy and blames him for Tommy not being at work as busy today 3 MOTs 2 cam belts - things are looking up!

In the cafe, Vera brings a depressed looking Ken a cup of tea and then goes across to join Jack and Tyrone - conversation is about Jack's appearance in court. Vera wants to go but Tyrone manages to bring it round to him going and Vera staying. Kevin is going to be another worker short...

Meanwhile Deirdre has joined Ken and looks like she may be applying for the job at "Underworld" if Ken is ok with that, the other topic is Peter's bigamism which Ken seems to accept as a fact of life - Deirdre has to remind him it is in Peters case cowardly as well as illegal.

On to Gail's (spelt it right this time!), she has seen the advert and is trying to interest Nick in the trainee managers job as well is this so that number one son will be local?

At the Rovers Lucy and Shelley are still plotting revenge. Bev goes in and then Fred arrives with a big bunch of flowers for Shelley. Lucy then goes off with a cryptic "checkout bookies at midday". Shelley is overwhelmed by the flowers and the memory of the wedding as the flowers are similar to the bouquet she had then. Then horror of horrors she bursts into song....

Peter joins Ciaran at his new watering hole and Peter still feels sorry for himself and asks if he has seen either Shelley or Lucy. Peter tells Ciaran that Ken has thrown him out, Ciaran offers him digs in the flat that Sunita and Ciaran share regardless of what Sunita thinks about it. Peter using wisdom for once thinks this would be a bit too near to the battlefield!

At the cab firm Eileen is telling Dev that Steve has moved in to the flat above as him and Karen are getting "divorced" Steve gets a fair bit of stick from Dev and Eileen.

At Underworld - Mike is having second thoughts about Harry and Harry also seems not too keen on taking the job who has also seen the advert in the local paper, however, they both shake hands on this, Harry staying as the cleaner.

The girls meanwhile are having their tea break Angela does not see the joke of them going on about Peter Barlow and his two wives, the girls are not aware of the situation at the moment so Angela's outburst is ignored.

Back at the Harris's Tommy is fitting new locks on the doors much to Katy's disapproval, she manages to text Martin who texts her back only for her phone to be taken by dad who then throws it on the floor and stamps on it. (Please someone fit Katy with a silencer!)

High Noon - and at the bookies there is a nice floral display provided by Lucy - "BIGAMIST" picked out in nice large yellow flowers , "to match the colour of his belly" she says. Lucy then drives off, Les Battersby has seen the flowers and proceeds to let everyone else know. Peter and Ciaran then turn up - he gets a warm welcome especially from Sally who has been covering for him. Peter it seems though has had enough and goes off back down the street.

Kevin has gone over to see Tommy to find out when he will be available for work - they are talking outside and in the background can be heard the dulcet tones of Katy imploring to be let out. Katy meanwhile is trying to force her way out and Tommy goes in, followed by Kevin, to find Katy trying to open a kitchen window. When she sees Kevin she asks if he is satisfied now that Tommy knows, the penny eventually drops and Tommy confronts Kevin as to why he did not tell him, another bashing on the way? No - Kevin gets away with it but looks like Tommy will not be employed by Martin for much longer!

At the Rovers Deirdre walks in and says "hi" to Bev who goes to where Shelley is, then they both go over to Deirdre who asks if she can speak to them in the back. Bev and Shelley are having none of this - more public humiliation! Deirdre maintains that she and Ken knew nothing of what was going on although Tracy was part and parcel of it. Deirdre then walks out after a disbelieving response from Shelley and Bev.

The girls from "Underworld" also in the Rovers are discussing Karen and Steve's "separation" only Janice seems to know what the full story is and she keeps quiet here. Les Battersby then turns up - he has appropriated the flowers from the "bigamist" sign and tries unsuccessfully to sell the "S" to Sonya - no chance Les, failing here he tries to sell some of the letters to Fred for "A" for Ashley. Fred rapidly disappears, as does "B" for Bev.

Martin is in the pub leaving a message for Katy, pity he doesn't know the phone is no more!

Angela has just arrived home from work and follows Tommy upstairs leaving her handbag on the settee, Katy sees her chance here and grabbing the keys unlocks the door.

At Jack and Vera's - Tyrone and Jack suited and booted have just returned from the court, Jack has got a £200 fine which was paid by Tyrone - where did Tyrone get that from? Kevin sees Tyrone and tells him to get over to the garage asap.

Katy by now has unlocked the door and rushes out into the street shouting Martin's name, all of underworld are in the street and gawping away as Katy rushes over to Martin and kisses him in full view of all and sundry. No chance to keep it secret now! Tommy meanwhile has come downstairs and not finding Katy indoors rushes outside and shouts at Martin to let go of Katy. Angela is just behind Tommy and tries to stop him from giving Martin a good hiding. Gail and Nick have also appeared now and Kevin rushes over to try and keep Martin and Tommy apart. Tommy then grabs a squealing Katy and putting her under one arm takes her back. More shouting now between Tommy and Martin as Angela takes Katy back indoors.

That's all for now folks - must go and lie down in darkened room...

Friday 26 September

In Gail's, Audrey reacts to the news of Martin and Katy. What will David and Sarah think when they hear? Nick, however, is less judgmental - "it's no big deal!" [Gail remains unusually silent...]

The Harris house, and it's Katy's 17th birthday. Tommy and Angela hand her a present, which she rejects immediately. Craig can't leave for school, until Tommy unlocks the door. Angela asks Katy if she's had her injection [for diabetes] and Katy retorts: "What do you care?" A tearful Katy sits over her breakfast of corn flakes - with spoon after spoon of sugar piled on!

The Barlows', and Deirdre is all power-dressed for her impending interview at Underworld. Tracy suggests that she hitch her skirt up a few inches - that always works for her. Ken assures Deirdre that he has no worries about her maybe working for Baldwin again, and he tries to boost her flagging confidence. Tracy remarks that Mike must know of a few other attributes that Deirdre can offer. [Oh dear, miaow!]

The Harris house again, and Martin comes a-calling. The welcome mat is not out, and Tommy sends him on his way with threats of severe violence if he doesn't. Audrey just happens to be passing, and gives Martin a piece of her mind; he should be ashamed of himself. Martin tells her that it's none of her business and that he's not broken the law. Gail rushes up and rescues Martin from further accusations from Audrey.

Inside the Harris house, Tommy tells his errant daughter that he's protecting her. What about Tyrone? He wasn't good enough for her. Katy reckons that Prince William wouldn't fit the bill either. Katy pleads for freedom, but Tommy is keeping her under 'house arrest' until Martin is off the scene.

Martin and Gail discuss 'the situation' over the English panacea, a cuppa. Gail presses Martin to tell Sarah today, before she hears from someone else.

Les offers Jack a red-hot tip for the gee-gees, and Jack seems interested...

The Rovers, and a penitent Peter batters on the door, which is opened by Shelley. Peter explains that he has 'seen the light' and wants to be with the love of his life, just as Lucy arrives to talk to her 'mate'. [Mate, as in friend, not as in partner or husband.] Door slams.

Tommy has phoned the school, and they'll send work home for Katy for the next few weeks. Katy, meanwhile, gives the biscuit tin her undivided attention, unseen by Tommy.

In the Kabin, Janice, Rita and Norris discuss [what else?] the Martin/Katy affair. Norris adds, rather superfluously, that he's not like other men. Karen, with sobs, admits that Steve has been unfaithful again and they're splitting up. Again. Rita responds with a comforting hug for Karen. [No, I don't understand this story-line either!]

Back room of the Rovers, and Lucy persuades a reluctant Shelley that Peter hasn't suffered enough, showing her something in the local paper...

Underworld, and the candidates arrive for interview, including Nick and Deirdre. Janice wishes Nick the worst of luck; if he gets the job, she'll be making life Hell for him. Overcome by jitters, Deirdre starts to leave, but is stopped by Mike, who persuades her to stay... ... and a few moments later, during the interview, Mike tells her that she has his trust, she has the experience for the job.

Harris house again, and Katy is on the phone to Martin; her parents are threatening to send her to Sheffield, but she's not going there. [Not Coventry, then? Maybe Martin's being sent there?] Craig sees Katy wolfing down bars of chocolate, but Katy warns him to keep his nose out of her business. [Does Katy know what she's doing?]

Lucy and Shelley are putting up a few posters outside the bookies - 'BARLOW'S MY NAME -FRAUD'S MY GAME'. [I know about '... a woman scorned', but it must be worse with two!]

Underworld, and Mike interviews Nick, firing some 'material' questions at him. [Sorry!] Could he keep Janice in line? Nick thinks he could.

Jack and Les are in jubilant mood - the 'cert' horse has now gone up to 25-1. [They shouldn't count their chickens - or horses - blah blah...]

Peter drives up in his car to see the picket line in front of his shop, as well as the posters. He orders Sally to close the shop immediately, just before Jack and Les place their bets on the 'cert', and he drives off, at high speed and in high dudgeon.

As promised, Martin calls to see Sarah and, hesitantly, admits that he's been seeing someone much younger. Sarah listens, and cannot believe, at first, that this 'younger person' is her pal, Katy. [Does Martin have any friends left?]

In the Rovers, Les and Jack try to get some compensation for their loss of winnings, but Shelley sees them off the premises. Nick tells his Mum that his interview was a disaster. Deirdre tells Ken and Tracy that her interview seemed to go well. Steve comes under a combined verbal assault from Janice, Fizz and Eileen about his despicable treatment of Karen, even accusing him of trying to chat up the lovely Tracy.

Martin still tries to convince Sarah that his feelings for Katy are genuine, but Sarah makes it clear that he has to choose between his young lover or his family. Martin is sorry. So is Sarah.

The Harris house, and the effects of excess sugar are visible on Katy: she's becoming delirious, just as Angela finds a large slice of cake missing. Was that Craig who ate it? No. Sarah arrives to see her erstwhile pal, just as Katy collapses, in a coma. Tommy phones for an ambulance.

Steve and Karen have another go at each other in their flat; Steve has decided that he can't go on with this charade any more, and Karen leads him into the bedroom to, well, talk about it. [Is this daft, or am I missing something?]

The ambulance arrives, and Katy is carried out on a stretcher, just as a passing nurse offers help. [Yes, it's Nurse Platt.] A furious Tommy drags Martin away from the ambulance, which drives off to the hospital, leaving Martin and Sarah on their own in the otherwise empty street...

Sunday 28 September

Monday 29 September

Hi everyone, here is tonight's 1 hr episode.

Steve and Karen are discussing their imminent divorce. Karen doesn't want Steve eyeing up other girls, even if it is just for show. He tells her he only has eyes for her. She tells him she hopes so, it's the last time she want to be signing papers like these.

In the cafe, Todd comes in and asks Sarah, who's working, to go the cinema tonight. She eventually agrees. Martin comes in behind Todd and when he's gone, asks for a bacon sarnie, Sarah is a bit offhand with him and tells him she'll bring it over. David comes in, and seeing Martin there turns round and is about to go out again, but Martin then sees David and catches up with him. David however, is disgusted with Martin's behaviour and leaves. Ashley comes in and sits down next to Martin. He finds it hard to believe about Martin with Katy, doesn't he realise the whole street's got it in for him? Ashley reckons Martin should finish with Katy, it's upsetting both families and families are most important.

Over at the factory, the girls are looking at Nick who's in Mike Baldwin's office. Sonia thinks he's gorgeous. Mike comes out and introduces Nick as the trainee assistant manager. Sonia asks Nick to come and have a look at her machine, and they all eye up the view as he bends over to check the switch.

Todd meets up with Eileen in the street and asks her if she'll babysit for Bethany that evening so that he and Sarah can go to the pictures. She agrees after a little persuasion.

Karen and Steve are at the pillar box, posting off the divorce papers.

Katy, out of hospital, is outside Martin's flat talking through the intercom, asking him to let her in. Although he's up there and listening, Martin doesn't answer.

Sally calls round to Ken and Deirdre's wondering where Peter is. Ken tells her he's gone to stay with a friend from the navy. Tracy comes downstairs and asks her why she doesn't just shut up shop, it would do Peter good to see his takings go down. Sally however, is worried about her wages.

At the factory, Angela pops out, telling Nick she won't be long.

Karen tells Fizz she's just posted off the divorce papers. Janice is disgusted at Karen for not only tricking the court, but milking the situation for sympathy. Sonia tells Janice she thinks Steve is really nice, and that Karen needs her head examined. Janice, stirring up trouble as usual, goes up and asks Karen if it's all right for Sonia to go out with Steve. Karen's face is a picture, she's not amused.

Angela goes to see Martin to find out what he's going to do. Martin tells Angela she doesn't know her daughter . Angela wants Katy to grow up at her own pace and appeals to his better nature to let her go. Martin tells her it's a witch hunt, but Katy will suffer. However, he's go not choice, he'll finish it.

Over in the back room of the Rovers, Sharon, Lucy and Bev are discussing their next move. Shelley remarks that it was only two weeks ago she was working out the best time to try for a baby. Deirdre arrives to tell them the news that Peter has left the area to go and stay with a friend from the navy. Lucy is worried about how they'll get their revenge now.

In the taxi office Karen tells Steve that Janice was trying to set up a date for him with Sonia, and clearing it with Karen. Steve wants to know what her answer was, and is astounded that it was yes. Steve then gets interested and wants to know if Sonia fancies him. Karen warns him that there's to be no funny business.

Martin is waiting outside the school as Katy comes out. He asks if she'd like to go for coffee. She is immediately suspicious, and wants to know what's going on. He tells her they have to stop seeing each other. She demands to know if her dad has got to him. He tells her it's nothing to do with her dad (no, it was her mum!) She is adamant that there is no way they are splitting up.

Sarah, in the cafe, is talking to Brenda (Neil Fearn's mum), and have just made arrangements for Brenda to babysit. Todd comes in as Brenda goes out, and tells Sarah that Eileen is babysitting. Sarah tells him she just asked Brenda, and when Todd protests that his mum was looking forward to it as she lost her telly (when the baliffs came), Sarah points out that Brenda lost her son. Todd backs down straight away.

Meanwhile, Katy is arguing with Martin about their staying together. Martin tells her he was never in love with her and she's not worth all the aggro. This is the natural end of it all. Katy retorts that her mum and dad were right all along, and that he's just a dirty old man.

Over in the factory, Sonia asks Nick if he's got a girlfriend. He tells them to keep all their questions work related. They give him a hard time and he escapes into Mike's office. Mike tells him he'll either sink or swim, tomorrow he must show them the fight in him.

Todd breaks the news to Eileen that she's not babysitting, she's a little disappointed.

In the pub, Martin meets up with Ashley. Ash orders him a pint, then Martin tells him he split up with Katy. He then gets cross with Ashley for all that Ashley said to him before, and tells him to keep his pint, and storms out.

Over at the Harris's, Angela and Tommy are discussing how to be with Katy when she gets home, having had the bad news from Martin. Angela tells Tommy to take it easy with her.

Katy however, is at Martin's flat, pleading on the intercom to be able to talk to him. Reluctantly he lets her in. She wants to know if all he said to her was true. Was it really all lies about him loving her? Martin tells her that he never used her, but he's not changing his mind. He admits that he loves her but he wants her to have a normal teenage life. She tells him that she thinks everyone else is more important to him than she is. He tells her he's ashamed at caving in to everyone. Then, he asks her to move in with him! She tells him yes!

Over in the pub Bev is serving Nick when the factory girls come in. Nick starts chatting to Maria, and when she walks away Fizz says she thought Maria didn't fancy him any more. Maria tells her she was just being friendly.

Steve comes in, he's celebrating his last day as a married man. Sonia offers him a drink and tells him that Karen doesn't care if he goes out with anyone else. Steve, (to wind Karen up) buys Sonia a drink.

At the Harris's, Angela and Tommy are wondering where Katy is. Wondering if Martin is telling her its all over. Ange suggests they go over to the pub for a quick drink, so that they seem casual when Katy gets home, heartbroken. Reluctantly, Tommy goes.

Katy and Martin are cuddled up on the sofa, but she has to go home to get her insulin. He wants to go with her, but she says she's old enough to stand up to her own parents.

Brenda has arrived to look after Bethany. She's brought a book, "Where the Wild Things Are" it was one of Neil's favourites. Sarah hopes Bethany won't be frightened, and then she and Todd go off to the cinema.

Katy goes home for her things. Craig is in and tells her that their mum and dad have gone over to the pub. Over in the pub, Tommy wants to go home in case Katy wants to talk to him, but Ange dissuades him.

Karen is watching Steve chat up Sonia with a sneer on her face. Les comes in then, and Janice suggests that Karen does the same to Steve with Nick or Les. Karen goes up to Les and starts to talk suggestively to him. Les wonders if it's a wind up. Karen assures him she wants the company of a real man.

Katy comes down the stairs with her bags and tells Craig that Martin didn't dump her, and gets her insulin out of the fridge. She tells Craig she's going to move in with Martin. He says he'll tell. She says she doesn't care. In the pub Angela and Tommy are having another drink. Sonia is still talking to Steve and Karen is talking to Les. Les tells her he wouldn't want Janice to get the wrong idea. She tells him she's not serious, she's only talking to him for Steve's benefit, but Les will have none of it, he knows what a knockback can do!

Katy rounds the corner and meets Todd and Sarah waiting at the bus stop. Sarah is pretty unpleasant to Katy. Katy tells her she should understand, after all she loves Todd, and Martin supported her when she wanted to be with him. She tells Sarah she's moving in with Martin and it was his idea!

Sarah doesn't feel like going to the cinema after that, so they go into the pub for a (non alcoholic) drink. Gail sees them and wonders where Bethany is, she hopes they haven't left her on her own. Sarah wonders what kind of person Gail thinks she is, and asks why she doesn't have a go at Martin instead. Behind them, Tommy and Angela go out.

Steve tells Sonia he's called her a cab, although Sonia obviously doesn't want to go anywhere, unless it's back to Steve's I think!

Angela and Tommy arrive home and Craig tells them that Katy came back and got her stuff. Tommy is furious and blames Ange for taking him to the pub. They start shouting at each other, until Craig shouts at them and asks them why they wonder why she's gone!

Karen is in the street sitting on the bench. Steve comes out of the pub, on his own and goes over to her. She starts shouting at him that he was chatting up Sonia and wanted to be with her. He tells her he didn't want Sonia and got her a taxi. He points out Janice and Sonia coming out of the pub and Sonia getting in the taxi. Karen still keeps shouting at him and in the end he tells her he's going back to the flat to celebrate on his own that tomorrow he'll be rid of her. Karen then starts arguing about who's divorce it is - hers or his?

Katy and Martin are in the flat, she's wondering where to put all her stuff. He comments that if she's like Sarah it'll be all over the floor. She tells him she's not like Sarah, who's hypocritical. Martin assures her that Sarah will come round, although there'll be plenty who won't. She asks him if she's worth it. He tells her she knows she is.

At the Harris's Tommy comes down stairs, having calmed Craig down. Ange asks if he's calmed down, she has to be joking! She thinks she should go and have a talk to Katy, he thinks he should go and rip Martin's head off his shoulders! He and Ange then rush off to go there.

Sarah and Todd arrive back at their flat, saying that Sarah had a headache. Brenda has done a whole lot of tidying and washing up, and is in no hurry to leave.

Tommy is hammering on the door at Martin's place. Martin and Katy come to the door. Katy tells her dad if he touches Martin she will phone the police. She tells him she put herself in hospital because of him. Angela accuses Martin of stealing their daughter. Tommy then tells Katy that if she stays with Martin she's not welcome back at their house. Katy tells him she's made her choice. Tommy then changes tack a little, asking if after all they've been through over the last year. She can't love him. She says she does and runs upstairs. Martin then apologises to Ange for lying and shuts the door. He runs up to the flat and assures Katy that its all ok. Outside, Angela is crying and Tommy looks stunned. They sit on the kerbside, with Tommy saying, 'I've lost her....'
