Sunday 2 December

Help. We need update writers for the additional Thursday episodes and with effect from four weeks time Sundays as I shall no longer be writing Sunday updates. I will carry on until the end of this month. Volunteers please take one step forward and drop me an email.

Events in Weatherfield were written by Martin Allen, directed by David Kester, and sponsored by Cadbury's Miniature Hereos.

Dennis and Janice are expecting Toyah and Sam for lunch. Dennis reckons that this will start the road towards reconciliation. Les is not far from their thoughts though.

Over at the shed Vera tells Terry that Curly will spill the beans to Emma tonight. Terry wants to go to Huddersfield and Vera volunteers Tyrone to drive them over.

At the Corner Shop Les is acquiring some more alcohol. Clearly drunk as a skunk he staggers out. Dev brings Deirdre on his plans to extend the empire by buying a house and turning it into a shop. So planning permission will be needed - Curly refuses to understand when Dev asks who the right contact might be.

Les wanders down to StreetCars and volunteers to restart - so Vik, who clearly has no sense of smell or sight gives him some keys and tells him to get started. Les is about to depart when Dev informs Vik of his liquid purchases and current state. Vik grabs the car keys and prevents Les departing. Les takes this badly and the two exchange words at the end of which Les finds that he has returned to the growing ranks of the unemployed. VIk doe try to send him home before taking the inevitable step.

Richard is spotted arriving by Norris who says Kellet Holdings out loud. Richard reminds Norris that he told Emily he was a Director - which Emily cannot recall so Richard determines to go round and see Emily immediately, with Norris in tow.

At Emily's Richard seeks to smooth things over. Emily tells Norris to get lost and then Richard tells a new story - he alleges he mentioned he was a director when quoting lots of other small print. He asks if she remains happy with the arrangement - and he also suggests she should seek advice elsewhere. She re-assures him that she is perfectly happy.

Les is knocking back the booze when Toyah and Sam arrive. Vikram sacked him and Sam tries to take the bottle of him. Les shouts at Sam who is sent to get Janice whilst Les starts drinking a can of lager.

Norris catches Richard and taunts him with the name Patricia. This touches a nerve but Richard asks him to back up his comments at a police station with a solicitor present. Defamation of character seems to cover it. Norris is forced to back off.

Sam arrives at the flat and breaks the news of Les' condition - and she agrees to go and see him.

Vera and Tyrone arrive at the shed. Terry has left a note - he has done a runner to go to a mate's. So what do they do now?

Geena arrives in the Corner Shop where Dreary tells her about the planned new acquisition - except that Dev has forgotten to mention anything to Geena and Dreary gets pleasure out of knowing more than she does. Geena tries to cover up ineffectively.

Les is pleased to see Janice, thinking she has returned. Janice tries to tell him that she is not coming back to him but she tells Toyah and Sam to go.

Vera returns home and tells Jack that Terry has gone. Jack is under pressure and is not feeling well. Nobody has a clue what to do.

Dev arrives in the Rovers and Geena starts the cross-examination. They bicker slightly and Geena is unhappy that Dreary knew before she did. Dev promises to tell Geena first in future. She forgives him - this time!

Emily arrives in the Rovers and upbraids Norris for his good intentions. Norris reckons that something does not add up - but Emily does not want to hear another word ever.

Richard arrives at Gail's and they kiss (urrgh). Richard has something to tell Gail. He has had two wives - one died but the second one, Patricia is still alive and they are divorced. There are no children. Gail is somewhat shocked and wants to know why she was not told sooner - perhaps because of the loss of Alma and he did not want to tell her - and it just went on and became more difficult. Gail wants to know what else he is hiding. He says there is nothing else, no more secrets.

Les is almost sober and feels sick. Janice tells him to drink some water. She is not coming back and she is not going to turn up to help him. Les wants to know what he did wrong. As Janice points out if it had not been Dennis it would have been someone else. She cannot come back - it would not work. They will go to better things separately. Later Dennis arrives and Les starts shouting as soon as he sees his rival. Les blames it all on Dennis and Dennis and Janice discuss what should happen. Janice feels bad about leaving Les and decides to stay whilst Dennis departs. Les holds his head in his hands and cries.

Jack has gone to Blackpool - he cannot do anything and he needs the rest. Vera is going to stay and see what happens.

Richard has told Gail because he could not go on lying. The marriage lasted two years - they did not have as much in common as they thought. He was also reluctant to tell Gail because he has had little luck in recent years and did not want to make it worse. He acknowledges there has been a breakdown in trust and if she wants to call it off she must. And he stands up and leaves.

Norris sees him outside but says nothing. Richard gets the closing shot - seething at Norris it would seem.

Monday 3 December

Gail is in a pensive mood, listening to Sarah Lou and David at the breakfast table, they are discussing Christmas presents and David knows what is top of his list, a DVD which is about £200, Richard bought them a TV why not him a DVD. Gail hears what he is saying and puts him in his place.

Dennis and Janice are at home discussing the previous night's performance with Les, she promises him she will not go round there again to bail him out.

Les comes downstairs, doesn't want breakfast or to go to work, feeling sorry for himself, he was positive when Janice turned up she had returned to him, Toyah tells him to buck up his ideas, there is no way she will ever come back and he has to accept that.

Vera is on the phone to Jack who is worried about Terry, to find if he has contacted her which of course he hasn't, Vera blames Curly for all the trouble they are in, Terry doing a runner, if he had kept quite all would be well.

Emma and Curly are in 'Roys Rolls' having breakfast, Curly is about to come clean, when Dev interrups them about his planning permission, the moment is lost, but Emma wants to know if the Duckworth's have heard from Terry?.

Gail is not with it at the surgery, and making numerous mistakes, not her usual competent self, Molly notices and offers to listen if anything is worrying her, Gail says they will talk later.

Geenan wants Dev to ask his and her parents over for Christmas, he is horrified, considering the fiasco at the engagement party and says no way, he'd rather they went away together on holiday, but she is adamant.

Vera has a shouting match with Curly in the cafe, Emma is lurking nearby, Vera thinks he has told Emma everything, he hasn't, but she knows now. Janice and Toyah are also in the cafe and she is telling her mum she should help Les to handle the breakup, Janice says it is time he stood on his own two feet, and she is not going back there again.

Emma is furious having heard Vera and Curly's conversation, and asks why he didn't tell her, he says he gave them a deadline for Terry to leave or give himself up, Vera returns to have more words with Curly under the impression that he had 'shopped' them to her earlier, it is Emma's ante-natal day, but she is going to the police station for advice, she cannot believe that Curly would be so stupid., and she has to inform the police irrespective of who is involved, as a serving police officer it is her duty.

Les has gone to Dev's shop to buy something for his lunch, but he is 15p short, Janice offers to pay but he is not grateful and he is abusive to her about Dennis.

Vera is giving customers wrong orders she's worried about Terry and now there is another threat..Emma. Tyrone tries to console her.

Geena is determined to have her own way over Christmas arrangements, to pacify her Dev says he will think about it.

Sarah Lou and David do not know why Gail is unhappy but they have an idea it could be something to do with Richard, David is more concerned about his DVD, he's a mercenary little horror.

Janice is thrilled, Dennis has given her a large box of 'choccies', something she never received from Les, she always had to buy her own.

Gail is confiding in Molly, she cannot see anything wrong in Richard admitting his past, Gail is an astute woman she's been there before and knows there is more to it than meets the eye.

The phone rings at the Duckworth's Vera thinks it is Jack, but no it is the light of her life ..her Terry, then a knock at the door which Tyrone answers, it is Emma, Vera has to cut Terry short. Emma wants to know who was on the phone, and where is Terry? Vera is agressive and blames Curly again, Emma tells her Curly is not involved, having taken advice from senior colleagues, but she and Jack are and could go to Prison.

Gail has been giving a lot of thought to the situation twixt her and Richard, Sarah Lou and David return from school and Gail knows she has to tell them her decision, she cannot trust Richard and it is the end of their relationship, David goes upstairs and Gail tells Sarah Lou she will not be seeing Richard anymore they are finished.

Thursday 6 December

Written By: Jo O'Keefe Directed By: Chris Jury

Tonight's episode started with Tyrone and Vera, discussing Terry and Emma's nerve telling them she was going to report them to the police about Vera harboring Terry. Meanwhile next Emma was telling Curly that she had to report Vera for what she had done but Curly tried to stop her but there was no stopping her she was determined.

Over the road at number 8, Gail was telling Molly what she had done about Richard, Molly told her to ring him she was not very sure about this but then the Kids walked in and Sarah agreed about Richard and so did David, Gail said she would wait a bit.

In the cafe, Geena and Shelley were talking about the Christmas decorations for the Rovers and the cafe was busy, then Geena noticed that their breakfast was burning and alerted both Vera and Roy. Vera was very apologetic to them and said "I will bring it over" they went to sit down while Roy asked Vera if she was ok and she said yes "I just did not get a good sleep last night". Ken then came in and Roy asked him if he would mind doing a talk for the Weatherfield Historical society Ken said he would have to think about it and Roy told him he could let him know latter on.

Back on the street, Eileen was getting ready to go to work at Streetcars, but Jason had a day off work and decided to take Maria out for the day somewhere special. When they both got outside Jason's bike would not start and Dennis noticed him from the garage and came over and asked if he could help him Jason said no and they just went into town.

At Number 5, Les had decided to get his life back together and said to Toyah and Sam who was also there that he was going to have a shower then get this mess cleared up and he felt really confident and wanted to get himself back together Sam and Toyah both thought this was good. As Les was making breakfast Toyah brought the mail through to him and there was a letter from the council and he opened it and read it.

INTERVAL

Back at number 5, Les was again saddened as the letter from the council was to say they had terminated his contract as of 9th December, he tried to pressurize Sam into giving him money to buy a drink in the Rovers. Toyah said no and then les told them to get out and leave him alone.

In the Rovers, Roy came back to ask Ken about doing his talk to the Weatherfield Historical society and after some encouragement from Deirdree he said to Roy he would do it and Roy was very pleased. Over at another table Maria and Jason were discussing Eileen and Jason was telling Maria that he was concerned about his mum and they were in so deep a chat that they never noticed Eileen walk in and out again.

Over at the bar, Curial was talking to Tyrone about doing another few other cars for him, Fizz was very up for it especially when Caral said that there would be a lot of money at stake and he could get them on the guest list at the new club Tyrone agreed to help him.

Back at number 9, Emma and Curly popped in to see Vera she was surprised to see them but was glad when emma said she could not go through with report her about terry. As they were about to go Emma got a pain and she said it was only the baby but Curly was a bit more worried and said "I think we better get Matt to have a look", and Emma agreed and Vera was happy that they had made up.

Back at the Rover's, Toyah and Sam were having a drink when Eileen came in a mood and asked sam what exactly Jason's bile is doing outside the garage, Sam said "Dennis was fixing the plugs or something". Eileen walked out in a strop., Shelley had now found the Christmas decorations and Geena asked where they had been and Shelley said on the bin. Geena then said it is time they got some new ones but Douggie likes it traditional according to Shelley.

In the Cafe, Molly and Sarah asked Gail if she had phoned Richard but Gail said "I bottled out and Sarah said you could of phoned him on his mobile". Molly and Sarah were annoyed with Gail and Molly asked if she going to ring him. Sarah then said "I will make sure she phones him tonight", Molly said good for you. Gail then said they were being ridiculous treating her like a teenager. Over at another table Eileen then came in to ask Jason what he thought he was doing giving Dennis the bike to fix, Jason was annoyed and said "I will kill him" and they both went out.

At the garage, Jason found Dennis and went for him and told him that he never wanted him to come near his family and him mum again and a fight ensued leaving Sam and Eileen to break it up and strong words were said as Jason was lead away and Sam said that he would bring the bike over latter.

At number 8, Gail was chatting to Molly about Richard and what to do about it when the kids came down the stairs and Sarah said "Haven't you got a phone call make mum" closely followed by david saying go on mum do it. Gail Said " I better do it as I wont get to forget it if I don't" she phoned and left a message for him on his anseering machine to call her back. But will he ever call I wonder.

Round at Dennis's and Janice's flat, Dennis was getting ready for his evening meal when Eileen turned up and barged in, She had a look around then asked Dennis where Janice was and he said out at the shops, Eileen then said that she does not want him to come near her boys ever again and she thought the best thing they could do was pack there bags and leave Weatherfield. That is how the episode finished.

Friday 7 December

Eileen comes out of her house first thing in the morning to see Dennis sitting on Jason's bike across the road at the garage. Eileen glares at him. Tyrone opens the door to collect the milk and tells Eileen that he's had a night on the tiles with Fiz, then shouts across to Dennis that he's going to have a lie-in.

In the cafe, Sarah tells her Gran that she's worried about her Mum after her break with Richard; Gail is miserable, she says. Audrey will 'have words with her'. Eileen asks Toyah how Les is doing. Not good. Les is full of self-pity and can't accept what has happened. Eileen speaks to Vikram on Les' behalf and he promises to think about giving Les his job back.

In the back room of the Rovers, Eve tells Shelley and Geena that she's not happy living in Fred's house. It's very nice and comfortable, but everything was chosen by Sybil, his first wife. Duggie comes in, after having done some cleaning in the pub, and overhears their conversation. However, he has left the toilets to be cleaned by someone else...

In the cafe, Janice suggests another try at Sunday lunch for her and Sam - she'll make her favourite nut roast. Toyah thinks that'll be good. Janice tells Dennis about Les losing both of his jobs and Dennis advises her to keep out of the situation.

Eileen calls to see Les, who is very depressed: it's not his fault, he says. His first wife walked out on him, and now it's happened again. Eileen tells him to get washed and she'll take him for a pint. He accepts the invitation and goes upstairs to change.

At Gail's house, Audrey is offering some support to her daughter, Gail, who admits that, just maybe, she over-reacted at Richard's confession of his second marriage. Audrey reckons that, if the relationship is over, then it's Richard's loss. Gail is not so sure. The phone rings, and Gail rushes to answer it - she seems disappointed to hear her son Nick, instead of Richard.

In the Rovers, Fred and Duggie share a few moments. Duggie tells Fred of Eve's being uncomfortable in his house, with the decor, furniture, carpets all having been chosen by Sybil. Fred had no idea about how Eve felt about this... Dennis and Janice call in for a drink, just as Les and Eileen are having a friendly drink together. Janice thinks it would be better to go somewhere else, but Dennis thinks not. Les starts 'mouthing off' and Janice starts to walk away. Les grabs her and tells her never to turn her back on him. Eileen asks Dennis if he never listened to what she had to say to him last night, of which Janice knows nothing, apparently. (The bar staff do nothing to intervene in this fracas!) Finally, Eileen throws a pint of lager over Janice, which prompts Dennis to lose his temper, telling Les just why he lost his job and, no matter what anyone thinks, he and Janice are now together and they are not moving away. Moreover, he loves Janice, he announces to everyone. Janice and Dennis leave, watched by Vikram...

Shelley meets Peter in the corner shop and asks him what he's doing for Christmas. She confides that, since her Dad died during Christmas dinner a few years ago, she doesn't want to spend the day with her Mum. Peter immediately has the solution - she can come with him to Ken and Deirdre's on Christmas day, and Deirdre, reluctantly, agrees. Blanche advises Deirdre that she'll have to make more effort with the turkey this year - it was too dry the last time.

Vikram calls to see Les at his home. Les wonders why Vikram has come to see him, but offers his hand, as he knows he was in the wrong. Vikram declines this and, instead, offers Les his job back. Les is delighted. Just before leaving, Vikram advises Les to thank Eileen for speaking up for him.

Back at the Rovers, Shelley tells Geena about her plans for Christmas day. Fred is very attentive to Eve, who wonders why. Duggie feels a bit fed up with so few customers and goes off to the club.

At the garage, Dennis tells Tyrone that he's getting sick of Tyrone's laziness. Not only that, but he knows the real reason for his absence this morning - it was not food poisoning. Janice asks Dennis what Eileen meant about what she said about last night but, just then, Les passes in a taxi and toots his horn...

Fred's house. He offers a complete redecoration of the house - anything to please Eve.

At Gail's, Eileen arrives and they share mutual sob stories about the men in their lives.

Back at Fred's. Eve says, to Fred's consternation, that she'd like to move house.

Again at Gail's. More of female bonding, each bemoaning their lost loves. Gail tells Eileen that 'she and Richard' are now over...

Toyah is working at her studies when Les gets home, full of the joys of life - he's now got his job and self-respect back. He's going to make toad-in-the-hole for them both, but he's not sure how to make the hole!

Yet again at Gail's. Gail admits to Eileen that she loved Richard. Eileen declares her philosophy of life: "The one way to get over a man is to get under another".

Sunday 9 December

Events in the Street are a little more balanced as several story lines proceed. The saddest news comes at the very end as the formal announcement of Duggie's departure is made.

Written by Phil Ford, directed by Chris Jury

Shelley, Geena and Betty discuss Duggie - he spent the previous night at the Rugby club and they expect him to have a hangover. He arrives with a big smile and cheerily sends them about his work. He wants to review the books even though it is Sunday morning. They leave him in peace.

Eve serves Fred a full breakfast. He has decided that despite the memories in the house he is living in a mausoleum to Sybil. So the time has come to sell the house - first thing Monday. Eve is delighted. Later in the Rovers they tell Ash and Max - and Fred makes it certain that he does not wish to move to bungalow.

At the Battersbys Toyah tells Sam she is worried about telling Les about their lunchtime appointment at Janice and Dennis - and she decides she must tell the truth, however much it hurts.

Gail is regretting not telling Richard that his lack of honesty did not matter - and although Audrey sympathises Gail remains unhappy.

At the Rovers the girls are still worried about Duggie's strange behaviour. Shelley is convinced from what she knows that he is hiding something.

We are told that Ken is lecturing the local history society tonight, organised by Roy, on the local contribution to the First World War. Anita in particular is looking forward to meeting Ken. It would appear she a "fan" of Ken's and Dreary pulls his leg and tells him to practice his autograph.

Toyah meets Les outside his front door and tells him they are off out for lunch - there is a pie in the fridge. Toyah reluctantly tells him that they are actually going to Janice and Dennis's place. Toyah tries to make it clear that she is not taking sides - but she has to see her mother. Sam and Toyah depart and Les is left on his own.

In the Rovers Betty welcomes Duggie's appearance in the bar with a waspish remark. The girls all reckon that they are safe - at least until Christmas. Geena hears Duggie on the phone to his accountant - he wants to discuss the Rovers and it is very important.

Gail loads the washing machine and then opens the front door to find Richard saying that he will not be surprised if he is not invited in. Why has he not rung? He was giving her some space to decide what she was going to do. He has been in the Lakes all week on business and has only just picked up his messages. He has had one of the worst weeks of his life. She asks if there are any other secrets. He promises there are none. They kiss but as they break the look on his face implies otherwise - a worried man.

Dennis has cooked an excellent lunch and Janice is appreciative of how well she is being looked after. Dennis and Janice are happy - and they are all getting wrecked when the door bell goes and Dennis has to let Les in. He does not want to cause trouble - but he wants to thank Janice for helping last Sunday - and that he is working again. Les has received a Christmas card from Leanne - and he proceeds to read out the message. She is in Switzerland, snowy mountains but feels homesick and is thinking of them all at Christmas. They always had a great time at Christmas together. Les starts crying and Toyah and Sam take him home. (Lovely piece of emotional blackmail).

Duggie is going out for a couple of hours. Geena guesses he is off to see his accountant. Eve reckons it starts with T and ends with rouble. Shelley is safe - she can work at the bookies anytime. Fred tells Eve to stop worrying as well. He then suggests to Eve that they should go home and make use of the peace and quiet. And she drags him out of the pub.

Blanche talks Peter into going to Ken's lecture.

Audrey returns with David and they find Gail and Richard coming downstairs. David decides to tell Richard that he should not upset Gail again (allegedly his mobile was not working).

At Roy's Rolls Anita is introduced to Ken who starts his talk on the Weatherfield Pals. He starts with a recording of Uncle Albert and also passes around some photographs. Even Peter who had been planning on sleeping is spellbound.

Janice and Dennis discuss the events - Dennis wishes Les would leave them alone - but Janice is a little more sympathetic. Dennis does not think he can take much more of Les.

Fred is being told he to decorate before he sells. He does not think much of the idea - but Eve and Max gang up on him - Eve is going to get a decorator in - she cannot hang a piece of wallpaper.

Peter, Ken, Anita, Blanche and Dreary come into the Rovers. Anita invites him back for a further performance. Anita seems to be hanging on Ken's every word - Dreary observes that if she wants his underwear she has a washing basket full. (Watch out Dreary Ken is susceptible to a little flattery).

When Duggie returns Geena, Shelley and Betty subject him to the third degree - he is selling the Rovers and leaving.

Monday 10 December

Richard and Gail come down to breakfast. Sarah and David realise that he has stayed the night. They both make excuses to go to school early.

Blanche tells Ken that Roy is going round congratulating him on his talk to the Historical society.

Gina tells Dev that she doesn't think Duggie would have said anything about selling the Rovers unless they had asked.

Candice invites Todd to her place for tea, as her mother has prepared something special. Todd said he had promised to stay home and comfort his mother.

Gina asks Duggie what he's going to do when he sells. He said he hopes to take over the club and bar at the rugby club.

Gina and Betty are worried about their jobs. Duggie says he would give them good references, but can't guarantee them anything for the future.

Matt spots David playing football in the street. He says he doesn't feel like school. He is a bit upset because he doesn't trust Richard.

Anita meets Ken and asks for a favour. She says she will tell him at the Rovers at 1pm.

Eve tells Ashley that they have found a decorator for the house, and that he can start tomorrow.

Tyrone is going out but won't tell Fizz where. He says he will see her tonight.

Betty tells Gina that she thinks the Rovers would be good for a retiring couple, like Jack and Annie Walker, or a couple starting out with their first pub.

Les is in the corner shop. He doesn't know what to buy. Janice comes in and sees him and offers to help him with the shopping. Dennis then comes in and stands there watching them. He then storms out.

Betty wants to when the Rovers is going to be sold. Duggie says it is not even on the market yet.

Anita meets with Ken in the Rovers and says she wants to do an interview with him for Wetherfield What's On.

Janice sees Dennis to says she is not going to ignore Les, but still wants Dennis.

Ashley invites Fred and Eve to stay with them while their place is being decorated. Maxine is not so sure, but Ashley reminds her that Fred gave them their house.

Dev asks Gina if she is going to be a dogsbody to the new owner of the Rovers. She says she isn't.

Sarah and Candice apologise to each other and start talking again.

David tells Gail that she would be surprised if he brought a girl home and asked her to stay the night.

Dennis calls round to see Les. He tells him to leave Janice alone. Dennis says the reason why Janice left him was because he treated her like a skivvy, and not a woman.

Candice tells Todd to tell Eileen that he is going round to her mother's. Then Jason says he is going to a concert with Maria.

Les explains to Dennis that Janice offered to help him at the shop. Dennis tells him to leave her alone. Dennis tells Les to keep away from her.

Ken tells Deidre and Blanche about the interview for Wetherfield's What's On. They get excited.

Tyrone has bought a leather jacket for Fizz. It is similar to the one he is wearing. Fizz loves it.

Gina tells Dev that she is going to put an offer in for the Rovers.

Friday 14 December

The day of Maxine's driving test dawns, but she has spent the night sleeping on the sofa on account of Fred's habitual snoring. Fred and Eve come downstairs and Fred offers to brew-up, while Eve suspects that the young couple have had a tiff. When she learns the truth, Eve sees the funny side, but Maxine doesn't.

Fiz and Tyrone are enjoying breakfast at the Duckworth's, Fiz having stayed the night. All Fiz wants for Christmas is to be able to spend the holiday with her beloved Tyrone in a nice hotel - after all, she's banned from Jack and Vera's. She can't spend the time with her Mum, for they can't stand the sight of each other.

In the cafe, Les tells Eileen that he's available for as many shifts as she can offer him over the holiday period. Dev and Geena sit down beside Duggie and ask when they can see the books for the pub; Duggie is amazed at Geena's idea of running the pub, but their money is as good as anyone else's.

Tyrone tries to sneak Fiz out of the house without anyone noticing, but Fiz doesn't care who sees them. She's annoyed that Tyrone wants to spend Christmas with the Duckworths and not with her - he doesn't want to hurt their feelings, but what about her feelings? Across the road, Janice gives Dennis a kiss and goes off to work. Eileen sees this, and promptly storms up to Dennis to tell him to stop acting like a love-sick teenager and clear off. Dennis tells her (overheard by the guys at the garage) that they'll soon be off, to Sheffield.

In the back room of the Rovers, Shelley and Eve are enjoying a cup of tea when Duggie arrives to collect the books. They are astounded when they find out that Geena may well be the next owner of the pub... Geena seems to relish the prospect.

In the cafe, Sam tells Toyah what he overheard earlier - that her Mum may be moving to Sheffield with Dennis; this takes Toyah by surprise.

In the Rovers, Eve and Shelley discuss the possibility of Geena's being landlady. Ken has been invited to a meeting of the Weatherfield Historical Society, but Dierdre says she doesn't want to go with him. Eve puts the idea to Shelley that she ought to consider buying the pub. After all, Geena has Dev, but she has Peter - no harm in asking!

In the cafe, Janice arrives, only to discover that Toyah already knows of her plans to move. Janice assures Toyah that she won't move without her blessing for she doesn't want to lose her daughter. Toyah says that, while she's not thrilled at her Mum's moving away, maybe it would be best all round... They hug each other.

In the Rovers, Shelley invites Peter into the back room and asks him if he'd consider helping her to buy the pub. Peter is taken aback by her suggestion; after all, he's just got the bookies up and running. Shelley is embarrassed and admits it was a daft idea.

In the corner shop, Geena arrives with the books, for Dev to have a look at. (Dierdre hovers in the background!) After a cursory glance at the books, Dev reckons that it's a profitable business. Geena suggests that, to cut costs, she could make Shelley part-time.

Back at the Rovers, Shelley tells Eve about her talk with Peter and that she's sorry that she broached the subject with him. Shelley then confesses to Eve that she and Peter's relationship is one of laughs and not much talk. Geena appears and seems to love the prospect of being the boss. Fred arrives to escort his wife home for, as he calls it, some 'time together'.

Just outside the pub, Peter asks Fred about his time as partner in the Rovers. (Eve hurries home, but tells 'big boy' not to be long.) Fred tells Peter that it was the biggest mistake in his life but he liked the idea of free drinks. Peter's idea is to own the Rovers, but have Shelley as landlady. Fred can't wait to get home...

In the Rovers, Eileen tells Les to pop round any time and then asks him what he's doing for Christmas. Les says that he's spending Christmas with Toyah and Sam. Ash looks despondent. How will he cope with Maxine's failing her driving test? Les tells Toyah and Sam that Eileen is 'after him', but Toyah thinks that she might just be being friendly. Maxine arrives and sits down with the despondent Ash. He begins to comfort her, but there's no need - she's passed. First time!

Dennis and Janice, in their flat, have an argument about why they have to move. Janice is quite happy to move, if they both want that, but she's damned if Eileen is going to tell them what to do.

In the Rovers, Dierdre tells Peter what she overheard in the shop earlier - that, if Geena takes over the pub, Shelley will be part-time only. Ken arrives back from his meeting, which he claims was very boring. Anita, he also claims, is a very lonely woman! Peter asks to see Shelley alone in the back room. Shelley concludes that he's going to dump her. However, Peter thanks Shelley for supporting him in his previous nefarious deals and they agree to try for the ownership of the Rovers, together.

Janice and Dennis are still arguing about their reasons for leaving Weatherfield for Sheffield. Dennis is still of the opinion that they should leave, but Janice will miss her friends. Maybe Les as well?

Sunday 16 December

Events tonight sponsored by Cadbury's Milk Tray, written by Peter Whalley and directed by Philip Wood.

Janice is drying up. She is not happy that Dennis seems to prefer Eileen's desires over her own.

Tyrone and Fiz are discussing Christmas. Fiz has got her feet under the table as Jack and Vera are away. She knows Jack and Vera do not want her their. Tyrone feels caught in the middle. Fiz is promising a special event for his birthday.

Eve and Fred are off for a walk. Eve has taken ages to get ready. Max wants Ash to tell Fred about his snoring, although oddly Ashley has never noticed it before. Max wants more sleep - after all she is sleeping for two and the donkey like noises she emulates are keeping her awake. Ashley promises to tell Fred. And Max says if he does not stop he has to go home.

Les wants a coffee but Toyah is studying and he agrees to make it. Les asks after Janice - but Toyah says nothing about the departure to Sheffield. Les reckons that Janice cannot admit she has made a mistake. Toyah is studying broadcasting regulations.

Ken is in the shop reminding Deirdre about the history society meeting that afternoon. Roy wanders in carrying flowers and he seems surprised about the meeting - it is not in his diary. Fiz arrives and asks Roy if he can do a take away meal for Tyrone. They agree a deal. Ken offers to take Roy to the meeting. Dreary hopes they will have a nice time at the meeting.

Peter sees Ken coming out of the shop and tells him about the offer they are planning to make on the Rovers. Ken observes it is a big commitment - but Peter reckons they can make it work.

Janice arrives at the garage to tell Dennis she loves him and she is sorry they fell out. She will go with him anywhere in the world - no matter whose idea it was. They agree to discuss it further. Eileen sees them talking.

Peter arrives in the Rovers and exchanges kisses with Shelley. He gets a less warm welcome from Duggie. Peter says he is interested in making an offer for the Rovers and Duggie regards it as a joke. Peter wants agreement that his money is good enough - and he wants to go through the books. Duggie agrees - and Geena who appears in the bar is told she has a rival - Geena is surprised. Shelley re-assures Geena that her job would be safe.

Fred and Eve return from their walk and will go across the road for a drink - they want to celebrate Max's success in her driving test. Ash takes the opportunity to tell Fred that he snores. Fred is surprised.

At the Battersbys there is a knock at the door. Eileen comes in with Les's money. She is offered a drink but refuses. She tells Les that Janice and Dennis are off to Sheffield. Les is dumbstruck.

Once he recovers he rails at Toyah for not telling him. She admits to knowing. Toyah reckons it is better if they do move - but he does not want to be the last person who knows.

Shelley tells Dev that he and Geena have rivals. Duggie is happier that it is not a one horse race - but Dev threatens to pull out. Dev observes that he can at least show he has the money. Dev tells Geena to keep smiling and not admit to any alarm.

Fred buys the drinks and they celebrate Max's success. Eve observes that the drink might be causing the snoring. They discuss various remedies to solve his snoring and Fred seems very touchy on the subject.

Ken and Roy arrive at Anita's house. She says it is an extra meeting not in the calendar. She invites them both in. She is wearing a simple black dress and it seems that the gathering will be very select - just the three of them. The subject to be discussed is not set - it will be an Open Forum. Roy thinks Anita has got the wrong day.

Back in the Rovers Ash asks Matt if there is anything Fred can take to stop the noise. Eve suggests an operation on his nose. Fred is not happy. Nor is Max who tells Ash off for asking Matt. She has a sharpish go which even Eve notices.

Shelley observes to Peter that they seem rattled - but as Peter remarks it is a serious business proposition. Dev tries to wind Peter up a little over his lack of knowledge but Peter is a rock like (do not play poker with Peter).

The history meeting gives Anita a chance to demonstrate her legs. She also admits that she takes Ken's book to bed with her.

Even reckons that Fred's snoring is what is making Max fractious. Fred decides the time has to come to reveal the truth. It is Eve who snores - it is like sleeping next to a set of roadworks. Eve is surprised but does not deny it.

Les arrives at the flat where Dennis and Janice are. He wants to about their moving plans. Janice initially has no idea what he is talking about - and anyway it is not fixed. Les would like to know before they go. Janice does not want to hear any of this and is clearly bored by it. Les is a sad case. Dennis comforts Janice.

Ken is buying the drinks - Roy needs a brandy. Ken reckons it was an interesting meeting when Dreary arrives.

Dev does not want Duggie to engage in any gazumping - one offer, then a higher bid and backwards and forwards. Peter wants a level playing field as well. Duggie says no deals - he has decided to have an auction - highest bidder gets the lot.

Richard invites Gail out for dinner that evening.

Emily sees Richard in the street and thanks him for organising the house sale. She tells him that Geoffrey's business is almost up and running. They are overheard by Tony.

Tony finds Richard in the pub with Gail. Richard was a financial adviser for his mother. Tony wants to talk with him, but Richard says he is at lunch.

Steve tries to make peace with Karen. However she is mouthing-off viciously about his mother.

Dev tells Gina although Peter has a loan he doesn't yet have the pub.

Gina's mum comes round and invites her round for xmas dinner. When Gina asks if it includes Dev, her mother says she thought that Dev would be celebrating xmas. Dev jumps in saying it is all irrelevant, because he has booked them both a holiday in Madrid.

Sam is looking for somewhere to stay. Les offers to put him up.

Gina is not happy with Dev's white lie.

Steve comes home. Karen tells him she's not made any tea. They argue again and he storms out.

Fizz gives Tyrone a present. Aromatic oils.

Toyah unhappy that Les has invited Sam to stay without asking her first.

Fizz is massaging Tyrone when there is a knock on the door. It is the police doing a search for Terry.

Steve makes his bed on the couch, much to Karen's annoyance.

The police find nothing.

Gail rings Richard after he didn't turn up for their date. He explains that he got held up with work and apologises. Then Tony comes up to Richard. He accuses him of swindling his mother out of her home, and says he overheard him talking to his latest victim.

Written by: Martin Allen Directed by: Tony Prescott

Tonight's episode starts out on the street with Dennis and Janice coming out of the Kabbin talking about going to Sheffield and Dennis suggests next week, but then thinks that Janice might want to wait till after Christmas and she says yes.

As Richard comes out of Number 8 to head to his car to go to work he tells Gail that he will meet Gail in the Rovers and tells her he will be there and want let her down again like the night before. As he is sitting in his car when all of a sudden Lawson the man who is following gets in beside him and Richard tells him to get out of his car, but he says he is not going anywhere.

In number 5, Sam is running late for work and tells Les that he has no time for breakfast, but Les tells him that he must have time for some toast amd Sam says ok then when Les goes to put on the toaster suddenly all the lights fuse and Toyah shouts what's happened to the lights Les. Sam tells him he will fix them at lunchtime but Les says "I don't want to put you out"

In number 4, Maxine comes down stairs muttering to Ashley about Fred's snoring, when Fred comes out of the kitchen and Maxine feels terrible when she works out that it is Eve that is snoring and Fred then says that she keeps me awake as well. On maxine and Ashley's way out to work Fred tells them that he has tried everything to get a better night sleep but it did not work.

In the Rovers, Richard has surprised Gail by coming in for lunch, she asks him what he is doing here and he tells her that he has booked two plane tickets to Montreal for them to go for Nick's birthday they leave on Christmas Eve though, this makes Gail unsure and she tells him that she will have to ask Martin if he could look after the kids Richard says ok then.

In the cafe, Hayley is back and tells Roy that she is going to do the last of their Christmas shopping and she tells Roy that she will go by the soup kitchen to see what time they want them on Christmas day he says ok then. At another table Karen and Steve are having a chat and Liz Steve's mum phones him on his mobile and tells him that she is selling number 11. Karen thinks that is unfair on Eileen and the boys and goes off to sit at another table.

INTERVAL

Out on the street, Gail bumps into Martin and tells him about Richard taking her to Canada, Martin thought this was a good idea till Gail said it was to be over Christmas and New Year and could he look after the kids he agreed.

In the Cafe, Hayley had returned from her christmas shopping to find Curly in the cafe and she told him that the soup kitchen was all boarded up, she asked Curly what he could do and he said nothing as it was not his department and this annoyed Roy.

In the garage, Dennis was working when Sam came back from lunch and said could he please have a bit longer as he needed to do something to cheer up Les, Dennis said in that case take as long as you want and he carried on talking to Janice and working.

At Number 8, Gail had made a "Proper" tea with cakes for her, Richard, David and Sarah, David wondered what it was all about and he asked Gail she Said we want to talk to you both about Christmas and David got excited and asked why. Richard then said "they were going to Canada for Nick's 21st birthday and David and Sarah were over the moon until Richard said "It is just me and your mum it would be too expensive to take you all", this put a whole new mood on things and when Gail said they were leaving on Christmas Eve the kids did not really take to it, but Gail said they would spend Christmas with Sally and Martin and the girls and they would still get presents they were happy when Richard said he would by him a DVD player.

Steve got a call in his taxi, but when he got there it was Karen and he was surprised but she only wanted to make piece between them, Steve was not happy but then Karen said if you drive me back to the flat she could wrap his Christmas gift.

Back in the shop, Roy bumped into Curly and asked him if he had managed to find out anything about the soup kitchen, but Curly said no but he would look into it for them and get back to them on it.

Back at the flat, Steve and Karen were making up and having fun together as they kissed and made up.

Back in the Rovers, Gail was telling Martin and Sally that the kids are all right about her going to Canada with Richard and she asked Sally if she minded having them on Christmas Day, she said it would be great fun for the kids, Gail then thanked her. Over at the bar, Ashley, Maxine and Fred and Eve were having a drink and celebrating but I don't know what. Sam then came into find Les and Toyah to take them home in a big hurry.

Back at Number 5, Sam had fixed the lights and decorated the house for Christmas with a good tree, les was thrilled and then went back to the Rovers with them.

Friday 21 December

Karen and Fiz make their way together to work on a cold morning. Fiz, however, declares that she doesn't feel the cold - her Mum said she had an Eskimo's blood. Outside the factory, the 'girls' are looking forward to this evening's party chez Underworld. Fiz wonders about the food, but Karen has limited her catering to alcohol.

At the Peacock's, Fred is sitting on the sofa with a tea-towel over his eyes, trying to get some rest. He has tried ear-plugs, he tells Ashley, but they make him sea-sick, but he doesn't want Eve's snoring to be mentioned again, in case separate bedrooms ensues! (As he puts it, so delicately, "I like things to hand, when I get the urge.") Maxine and Ashley are excited about today's visit to the hospital for a scan.

At Underworld, the 'girls' are getting into party mood; they sing The Twelve Days of Christmas while doing no work. Mike tries to get them back to doing something, but eventually retreats to the sanctuary of his office. (Janice has taken the day off.)

Eileen thanks Steve for his Christmas bonus to her of £100. Tyrone tells Karl that he doesn't want any more 'clocking' jobs from him, but Karl manages to persuade Tyrone to continue with an extra 20 per car.

In the hospital, Maxine is having her scan, with Ashley looking on. Both of them look so happy, and they wave to the little one, Ashley introducing himself to the baby as 'your Daddy'.

In the cafe, Karen is issuing final instructions to Sam about his imminent appearance at the party at Underworld - just keep it crude and raunchy! Toyah disapproves of Sam's stripping, but he tells her that it's only a job...

In the pub, Fred is still tired as he has his lunch. Eve tries to persuade him to go house-hunting again, but he tries to calm her worries by assuring her that she doesn't snore any more. A miracle, he laughs?! Karl tells Tyrone about the latest cars he has for him to clock, and also asks Tyrone about who owns the local taxi firm, Streetcars. Tyrone points him in the direction of Vikram.

Steve and Vikram are having lunch in Roy's, when Eileen appears and thanks her generous bosses for her bonus, of which Vikram knows nothing. Of course, the usual argument about 'partners' breaks out between Steve and Vikram... Les is having lunch, on his own. Roy and Hayley discuss the annual soup kitchen for the homeless. Apparently, the verger at the local church, St Xavier's, which has hosted the event in recent years, is not interested, as he'll be spending Christmas in the Algarve. Hayley insists to Roy that they can do something - after all, they have a cafe, and could open it for the benefit of the homeless on Christmas day. Janice, having been to Sheffield for the morning, tells Toyah that both she and Dennis now have jobs there and they'll be moving sooner rather than later. Seeing Les having lunch, Janice gives him the glad tidings, which he doesn't receive well at all.

Later, at the Battersby's, Sam is getting ready for his appearance as Santa at the Underworld party; he is busy removing all chest hair. (This is apparently necessary for the oil, to be later applied!) Les sits and mopes about Janice's latest news about moving away: why do they have to move away when Janice and Dennis both have jobs locally? Les fears that Toyah will follow her Mum soon...

At Underworld, Karen is mixing a rather strong punch for the party. Mike, quite wisely, refuses to taste it and leaves. It's now party time - the music is turned on full belt and the 'girls' start to get into the serious business of drinking themselves silly...

At the Peacock's, Fred is shown the photo of the scan (he's surprised it's not in colour!) and he advises Ashley that he has the perfect wife who'll be a perfect mother. (Maxine doesn't look too sure about his summation of the situation!)

Santa (Sam) arrives at the party to a rather raucous, and inebriated, reception. Karen offers to be Santa's little helper for the application of the obligatory oil.

In the pub, unusually quiet, Charlie and Matt discuss Christmas presents - why not limit their presents to each other to 5? Karl introduces himself to Vikram, suggesting they could do business together. Charlie and Matt agree they could help charity, by limiting their cash on expensive gifts.

Back at the factory, the 'girls' discuss their various men's bodies, while poor Sam is all but ignored.

In the Rover's, Dennis asks Tyrone if he should still give Eileen a bag she liked in Paris when they were there on holiday. He'd bought it for her then, as a Christmas present, but she doesn't know. Karl and Vikram shake hands, and Karl departs. Steve wants to know what's going on, and Vikram informs his partner that he's got some good deals on new motors for Streetcars. Roy is collecting for the proposed soup kitchen and Charlie and Matt agree to help out. The 'girls' arrive from the party and drag their men off to join them...

While the group go off to the party, Terry appears in the shadows.

At the party, Steve loses no time in stripping to the waist, to much screeching encouragement, while Vikram refuses to join in the 'fun'. However, Vikram is pulled to the floor and forcibly 'debagged', after which he flees, as do Tyrone and Dennis. Janice meets Dennis in the street and she says that it was the best party she's ever attended. They snog, watched by the hapless Les from his front-room window. Fiz and Tyrone go to the Duckworth's to continue their own festive frolics upstairs... ...and Terry comes in the back door of his parents' home with the words, "Welcome home, Terry".

Sunday 23 December

Good evening it is Sunday and it is 7:30 and it is time for Crackerjack. Oh sorry got that one wrong - must be Coronation Street then I suppose. Sponsorship by Cadbury's Roses. Written by Phil Ford and directed by Tony Prescott.

Fiz is cooking breakfast and is enjoying domestic bliss, but as Tyrone observes it will only last until Jack and Vera return. The fry-up is great according to Tyrone but then Fiz knows the way to a man's heart!! Fiz thinks they may have vermin - she heard some noises in the night. Tyrone heard nothing - he was asleep. Tyrone reckons it was her imagination. Fiz wants him to go and look but Tyrone reckons rats are evil and won't go. A knock at the door and there is evil X who has some cars which want clocking. Tyrone demurs but Fiz reckons he needs the money.

In the Street Matt and Charlie meet Norman and Curly. It will be their last quiet Christmas as a twosome. Charlie suggests a party to celebrate the anniversary and suddenly everyone is being invited.

Gail is walking down the Street with Audrey telling her about the trip to Canada. Audrey accepts it is a good idea - after all Nick will be 21. Until she hears that Sally will be preparing Christmas in Gail's house where Audrey will be welcome. Audrey is worried about this but then Gail reveals it was her idea (and I may be confused but I thought that Sal's house was probably slightly larger than Gail's - but both are minuscule.

At the Battersbys Sam is telling Toyah about his experiences at Underworld with a pack of wild animals - the female staff apparently. Janice was involved and Les staggers downstairs and overhears this. Les is feeling sorry for himself and he will not have a happy Christmas. Sam stands up for Les - but Toyah wants Les to move on and she tells Sam to stay out of it. She has had enough of Les's bellyaching.

Fiz is in the bath singing (?) "It's raining men" as Terry lowers himself down from the loft. Terry drops to the floor and goes downstairs. A card drops through the letter box and his heart jumps as the noise makes him flinch. He grabs some chicken from the fridge.

We see Janice dropping cards through various letter boxes before she is stopped by Toyah. Janice is looking forward to her best Christmas ever - but Toyah is hoping to make the best of sharing with Les and Sam - she asks Janice to remind her of some good Christmases. Les and Sam are sharing a drink in the Rovers. In answer to a question Sam admits he cares for Toyah. Sam promises that he would not mistreat Toyah as Janice has done. Sam tells Les that he has to make an effort - and it might be better if Janice does go to Sheffield. Les reckons his life will be over if Janice goes.

Shelley and Peter are discussing the future ownership of the Rovers - she is clearly a little concerned.

Terry hides when Fiz comes downstairs and then grabs her from behind, putting his hand over her mouth and threatens her to maintain her silence.

After the break Shelley is telling Peter what she will change about the Rovers. Geena moans about Peter to Duggie - but it goes nowhere. Geena and Shelley bicker. Dev turns up and calms Geena down - and invites her to the party. Geena is working but resolves to ask Duggie for the night off.

Eve and Fred arrive in the Rovers moaning about estate agents. Then Dev and Peter exchange comments. The girls are taking it too seriously - the boys resolve that it is simply business.

Fiz, wearing just a towel, sits at the table as Terry gets her a drink of water. She admits to be being Tyrone's girlfriend and Terry gains a new friend by putting his coat around her shoulders. Tyrone arrives and wants to know what is going on.

At the Rovers Les wants another drink but he is already 9/10ths of the way there and Duggie refuses and sends him home. Sam guides Les out of the pub, falling over Peter on the way. Peter wants to know if Shelley has asked for the night off. Geena points out that she has already been given the night off. Anyway Duggie gives them both the evening off to end the bickering.

Terry and Tyrone discuss the situation. Terry knows Tyrone will do nothing out of respect for Vera. Tyrone calls him a blood sucker. Terry observes that Tyrone must be the son they always wanted. Terry challenges Tyrone over Fiz's residence. Tyrone goes quiet. Terry wants some cash so he can get away. Tyrone refuses to phone Jack and Vera. Fiz returns (dressed thank goodness) and offers to make tea. Terry is happy.

Sam gets Les home (just) and Toyah comes downstairs. She is not happy with Sam and storms out - she reckons they deserve each other. She is off to the party.

Terry is eating a square meal for which he compliments Fiz. She believes he is innocent and lets him bath a bath in her oils. Tyrone tries to tell Fiz the truth - but she reckons he is good looking - mainly to make Tyrone jealous.

Crowded party scene at Norman's. Gail and Audrey discuss Richard - Gail believes he needs a holiday. Dev tells Geena to ignore Shelley and Peter (on the other side of the room) and to leave work at work. Peter and Shelley discuss the backbiting. It appears that Shelley and Geena have to buy each other Xmas presents. Curly and Matt are eating nibbles. Toyah observes that Sam entertains everyone except her - and she is looking very down in the mouth. Max and Ashley arrive - Ashley has a surprise under his coat - a tee shirt with the ultrasound scan of Peacock Junior. Max is surprised and unhappy.

Tyrone has 600 which he gives Terry who takes the money and will go once he has dried his hair.

Sam arrives at the party and apologises to Toyah. She reckons it is all lads together. She is finding it very hard and does not think it is going to work and wants him to move out.

We see Dev pouring a drink for Shelley. Then Geena crosses the room to talk to Shelley and the two exchange words and decide not to buy each other a present. Emma and Norman celebrate their anniversary with a kiss. Max cannot stand being in the same room as Matt and decides to leave the party claiming she is not feeling well.

Janice and Dennis walk along the Street. She cannot face seeing Les getting wrecked in the Rovers and they decide to go back to the Flying Horse. Janice wants this first Christmas to be a good one. We see Terry skulking in the shadows - he might not be indoors but he is still around.

Matt rushes after Max. He wants to know how the pregnancy is going (apparently he is no longer her doctor). She apologises for the tee shirt but she knew nothing about it. Max re-assures him that all is well. She asks him what she wants - but he does not know. She is worried about Ashley and Matt re-assures her that nothing will happen.

Monday 24 December

It is Christmas Eve on the street ... (surprise, surprise!)

Hayley and Roy are opening their christmas cards.

The guy that has been pursuing Richard sees him in the cafe. Richard shows him the release form that his mother had signed for the property. The guy is still convinced that Richard is a swindler and threatens to tell Gail.

Les acusses Sunita in the shop for short-changing him.

Wayne and his mum come to see Roy and Hayley. She has not heard from Alex since he went to prison.

Janice and Dennis discuss christmas presents.

Les returns to the corner shop and apologises to Sunita.

Steve asks Eileen to work over christmas. He offers her double time. Karen in annoyed about that, inasmuchas he has already given her a christmas bonus.

Gina's mother comes round to the shop with presents for her. Her mother is surprised when Sunita says she hasn't gone away.

Richard is impatitient to get to the airport to leave for Canada. As he is loading the car, the guy drives by.

Jack and Vera return from Blackpool. Jack asks Tyrone if anything has happened while they have been away. Tyrone says nothing.

Gail says goodbye to the kids.

Tyrone eventually tells Jack about Terry returning. Jack says he ought to have rung when he re-appeared.

Eileen and Karen trade insults.

Karen tells Eileen that Liz McDonald is selling the hopuse and therefore she can't continue to live there much longer. Steve says he was going to wait until the new year before mentioning it.

Steve and Karen argue about the way she told Eileen. Karen wonders if Steve fancies her. Steve says no and leaves.

A message comes over the car radio to Les that Janice is waiting to be picked up in town. He offers to take the booking.

Dennis comes round to Eileen. She is upset at the news. He gives her a handbag from Paris. Initially she takes it out of surprise. Then she tells him in no uncertain times that she doesn't want it.

Janice is waiting for the cab. She sees Les and reluctantly gets in. He says she will not get another cab on new years eve.

Des comes looking fgor Janice in the Rovers. Vikram says Les was picking her up from town.

Karen rings up Steve, at Vikram's flat, on the mobile. She hears music in the background and presumes he is in the pub enjoying himself. She puts the phone down.

Dennis goes round to the cab office. He asks Eileen to radio through to Les. There is no reply. Les ignores Eileen's calls before turning off the radio.

Terry phones Jack and says he needs more money. Jack tells Vera that it was Jeff and Doreen on the phone checking they got back safely.

Les arrives at his house with Janice. He invites her in to see Toyah and for a quick drink. She goes in with him.

Eileen winds Dennis up, by saying that if Janice can leave one guy, she can do it again.

Janice gets into the house and realises that Toyah is not there. She wants to leave, and suggests that her and Les can talk elsewhere in the warm. He says he is sick of talking. When she tries to leave Les forcibly prevents her from going.

Tuesday 25 & Wednesday 26 December

Les takes Janice hostage so he can try and convince her he loves her. Janice being a strong character eventually manages to persuade him to let her go.

Deidre goes to bed with Dev after he has a row with Gina. Afterwards Dev feels remorse and is very cold and snappy towards Deidre who is oblivious that anything is the matter.

The police come round to search the Duckworth's for Terry, but they find no sign of him. When they have gone Jack goes to the shed where he is hiding to warn him. He then starts to suffer pains in his chest. Terry risks his freedom by taking him to hospital. On the way he is stopped by the police for going the wrong way down an one way street. The police don't recognise him, but when he explains about his father they give him a fast escort to the hospital. Unfortunately the police overhear him giving the hospital details of his father and recognise the name Duckworth. They arrest him. Back in prison he asks his mother for the best lawyer in the hope that he can get off the charge.

After some tests the doctors decide that Jack's heart attack was no more than indigestion!

Roy and Hayley decide to make free meals for the homeless on christmas day. However they did not realise that the service was being provided elsewhere together with entertainment. They are left with a lot of meals. Thankfully (!) the gas system breaks down around the Street which means that everybody has no turkey or hot food. So they are all invited to the cafe. Roy and Hayley suggest rather than charging everybody for their meals, they all make a donation to charity.

In the cafe Peter has a few beers too many and starts shouting off at Ken, Deidre and Blanche. Blanche suggests that he is sponging off his father, but Peter tells her to re-arrange the words, pot, black and kettle! She is Deidre's mother and as Ken and Deidre are not married, she is probably living at Ken's without paying rent.

Emma's waters break while Curly is with Vera at the prison. The only person nearby who can help is Norris. He rushes around making Emma comfortable and rings Curly. Curly manages to come back just in time to deliver the baby boy. Norris is standing by reading from the instruction manual.

Apologies again for this brief report. Hopefully it will return to a more normal format next year.

Tonight's episode started at Weatherfield General with Terry being taken away by the police in the police car, in the treatment room Jack is in agony with his chest pains as the doctor is looking after him. The doctor then comes in and asks him what is wring and he tells him that he is burning up at the top of his chest. He then tells them that his son Terry is outside and the nurse tells him that he has been taking away by the police.

In Streetcars, Eileen is telling Vic to come back to base as quick as he can as Geena is waiting for a taxi cab home and Geena tells Eileen that she must be sick being in work, but she says "someone has to keep this place going". Geena then tells her that she thought it was just her and dev who feel out on Christmas Day but Eileen tells her no it is not. Geena then again says she wanted it to be really special as it was their first Christmas together not relising Eileen's situation she then tells her how sorry she is.

Round at Dev's flat, Deirdree and Dev are spending some quality time together after Deirdree went round to see if Dev was all right. She tells Dev it feels strange but it is nice and he agrees, Deirdree can't believe that this is happened and asks Dev if knows how it has come about he says no he doesn't. Toyah is surprised when Sam tells her she has another six presents and she can not believe it.

Back at Dev's flat, Deirdree's and Dev's compassionate moment is over as Dev hands Dierdree her coat to leave, Dev tells her "I hope you don't think I am trying to get rid of you". She asks Ken if he would like a drink and he says yes and so she orders from Douggie and then Ken tells her she has cheered up and Deirdree tells him it is Christmas but he is not sure the 2 things go together, she then apologizes and Ken asks how Dev is and she is surprised and tells him that he is fine. He then tells her she has lost her earring and she says it must of fallen out and he says she hopes he gets it back. Peter then comes in and tells them both that Blanche plays a great game of Backgammon and Deirdree tells him it is though years of practice. Blanche then enters and says do I smell drinks being ordered? Shelly then walks in and Peter says that is another person I have to apologize to and goes after her.

Out on the street, Peter apologizes and suggests they go back to the flat and do something there and in the end Shelly agrees as none else wanted her so she may as well be with Peter.

Just as Steve radios to Eileen that he is going to be on his mobile he notices Karen coming out of the Cafe with two plates of Turkey and then he drives off.

All of a sudden, Karen knows that Steve saw her coming out of the cafe and he said of course I know these are not even our plates and she tells him the gas was off.

Over at Janice's and Dennis's flat, they are having a Christmas kiss and then Janice asks him if they can open their presents now and Dennis kids her on and tells her he forgot, but she has something for him and he feels like a little kid and his leather jacket is great.

Curly then tells Vera that the Braxton Hicks contractions have started and he explains that they are only practice ones. He then asks how Christmas has been for Vera and she tells them about Jack ending up in hospital and Terry in prison. He asks if Terry and Jack are both all right and vera tells them that she would love to go and see Terry so Curly offers her a lift to the prison leaving Emma behind.

Sarah is on her way home with Martin from the Cafe and she explains that she taxed Luke and has now had a message back saying she is his x. Martin tells her not to worry and gives her a hug.

On the other side of the Street, Toyah and Sam were coming out of number 5 and going to Sam's mums Toyah was a bit worried about Les so Sam told her they would go and have a look for Les before they go to his mums.

Outside the shop, Deirdree is putting out the flowers for the day when Dev comes she bids him a good afternoon and he gives her the earring which she dropped at his flat the day before. She thanks him and asks him if Geena found it and he said no it was him they then both go in with a big smile on their faces.

At number 4, Maxine tells Eve she is glad the gas is back on as Fred is cooking in the kitchen and Ashley asks Fred if he needs any help with the cooking, but he says he has a ribbon of beef hanging freshly. Maxine then notices a present under the Christmas Tree and reads the label it says "To Linda from Mum" and then Eve says "I thought she might be home for Christmas". They all give her a funny look as she goes to do the vegetables.

Back in the Rovers, Steve and Vic are having a Christmas drink when Eileen comes in and asks Steve for his mother's telephone number, he asks her why and she tells him "If she wants me to move out of the house she can tell me herself". Steve says I am her agent but Eileen is having none of it.

At the prison, Terry is glad to see his mum and Vera is glad to see him, he tells her how he got put back in Brent worth and then asks about jack and Vera tells him it was only stomach ache and he can not believe it he says "I thought he was going to kick the bucket" and she tells him I know you did the right thing and me and Jack will do the best we can to get you out don't worry and he is pleased and thanks her.

Back on the street, Todd has come round to apologize to Sarah and she shouts at him saying that "thanks to him they have now slit up". Todd is upset for her and tells her that her and Luke has been building up for weeks for him as he did not like him at all and then she goes in and closes the door.

At the other side of the street, Emma is putting her bin out for collection when David bumps her back on his bike she tells him to watch out and then Norris asks her when the bins are being collected as "Last year they were here until new year" she tells him she does not know then goes into pain. Norris asks her if she is all right and she tells him that she may have just had a contraction and Norris asks it was a Braxton Hicks and she said a proper one and he rushes her inside.

In the shop, Deirdree serves someone and then goes over and nips Dev's bottom as he is stocking the freezer, he tunes round and goes mental at her says that what did she think she was doing and he was her boss and he was annoyed with her behavior, she apologizes and he tells her to make sure it does not happen again.

Back in number 7, Norris makes Emma comfortable on the sofa and asks her if he can get her anything she asks him for the phone as she wants to phone curly and he gets it.

Up at Brent worth, Curly is waiting in his car for Vera when his phone rings, Emma asks him where he is and he tells her he is outside the prison she then asks him how long Vera is going to be and he says 40 Minutes and he asks her why. She then says she has had a proper contraction and that Norris is there and then Curly says he will come home right away and Emma says wait for vera. Norris tells curly that Emma is calm and Curly asks him to stay there and Norris is surprised. and then they both get some comfort aids together.

Back in number 4, He then tells them both that he has another gift for them and as he goes to get it asks Maxine to keep an eye on the beef as she is doing so she takes a bit and Ashley is amazed and tells Fred as he shows them the Eliot family tree they are pleased with it.

Back number 7, Norris tells Emma that he has been timing the contractions and she asks him how long between the last two and he says 6 minutes and asks her if she wants him to call an ambulance and she says no. he then tells her that he feels so helpless just standing around and then Emma asks him if he could get some comfort aids together. Norris says what are those and Emma tells him there is a list on the table and when he reads it he is surprised to see some of the things on it.

On the way back from Brent worth, Curly tells Vera that he is daft worrying aren't I as a first baby can take up to 12 hours and then Vera tells them it took her 36 hours with Terry. His phone then rings and it is Norris asking where he is as Emma's contractions are getting worse he tells Vera to tell Norris that they are two minutes away.

Back in number 4, Ashley tells Fred that he feels very humble being before his ancestors and Fred says it is in the blood and that is what makes us what we are. Maxine then says and the up bringing and Eve tells them what were this about a hanging in 1842 and Fred tells her I told him not to put that in and Eve says it just shows the Sikes are not the only bad family in Weatherfield then.

Back in number 7, Curley comes rushing in and Norris tells him he wanted to call an ambulance but she would not let me. Curly tells Norris to get an ambulance now as he goes and asks Emma how she is. She tells him that her waters have broken and the contractions are coming quick and fast, she tells him the baby is coming and she is sure. Curly then tells her to breathe deeply and Norris tells him that they are on there way and he asks he long they are going to be 10-15 minutes Norris tells him. He says he does not think they have that much time and they may try to deliver it their selves, Norris is flabbergasted.

3rd INTERVAL

Back in number 7, Norris is telling Curly that he is not a trained midwife and he faints at the site of blood, while Emma is in the birthing position and screaming and Curly tells her they are doing everything they can to help. He then tells Norris that he has to stay with him and do everything he tells him to do and then to make sure she is ready.

Back at number 5, Toyah and Sam return to find Les in the choir and %Toyah rushes to wake him as she thinks he is dead, Les then grunts Merry Christmas and then blabbers on and on. Toyah gets angry and tells him he drives her mad then bursts into tears. Sam then tells her to calm down as she sobs.

Back in the Rovers, Dev is ordering drinks as Dierdree tells him she does not need a talking too about what happened earlier, he tells her that a few days ago they would have been innocent but not now. He tells her also her whole attitude has changed towards him and Dierdree tells not to talk soft he then says what if Geena found out it would be a nightmare.

Back at Number 7, Curly tells Norris that they will need the pregnancy book and then Norris asks Curly shall he put the kettle on and Curly says that is an old wife's tail and Norris says for a cup of tea and Curly says that is good. Curly then tells Emma to push down slowly and continually, he then tells her she is relaxing to soon and to do it again and he tells her he can see the baby's head.

Back in the Rovers, Dierdree asks Dev if he thinks she wants a repeat performance and Dev says don't let anything like that happen again , Dierdree then tells him she does not expect anything from it. She tells him that if she told Ken it would hurt him and then Dev tells her he wants everything back to normal.

Back in number 7, Curly tells Emma to push harder then tells her that she has a baby boy and both Curly and Emma and Norris are overjoyed. Then the ambulance arrives and that is where the episode finished.

Sorry it is so late, but I have just been busy with Christmas.

Friday 28 December

Curly comes out of his house and breaths the air of a happy man, a new Dad. Matt and Charlie, who have been away visiting, arrive to hear his happy news - a baby boy, 6lb 2oz, and he delivered the baby himself, with Norris' help.

In the corner shop, Geena can't wait to see her name, Geena Gregory, above the door of the Rovers after tomorrow's auction. Dev and Deirdre, meanwhile, strive to keep their relationship on a professional basis after their recent night of passion.

Les goes to his work at Streetcars, but Vik tells him that he's not wanted at the moment; if he can keep sober over the next few days, he'll be taken on again. (Karl is seen in the background.) Steve arrives and wonders why Vik and Karl have been shaking hands. Vik informs him that he's going to see some cars which Karl has, to add to their fleet of taxis, but Steve doesn't like what Vik is doing. Curly arrives and spreads his good news about the baby.

At the Peacock's, Maxine is tucking into a large fry-up for breakfast. Curly arrives to tell them his news and he joins Maxine for breakfast. (Emma is still in hospital with the baby.)

In the cafe, Roy wishes the two protagonists for the Rovers, Geena and Shelley, the best of luck. Norris arrives and tells everyone about the baby's arrival at 17h00 last night, not forgetting to add that it was he who delivered the wee one. Bobbi and Vik are looking forward to a nice quiet time at the New Year, together. When Bobbi leaves, Steve warns him about her getting her feet under the coffee table... Curly arrives to tell his news, only to find that Norris has beaten him to it.

Steve stops his car to speak to Bobbi, and he plants the idea in her head that Vik would like her to move in with him. Bobbi seems quite accommodating with the idea, and Steve denies that Vik has put him up to speaking to Bobbi about this.

Curly arrives at the hospital. Emma wakens and tells Curly that the baby has had all sorts of tests, all fine. Curly has never been so happy in his life, he says.

A 'For Sale' sign is being put up at the Grimshaw's house, as Todd and Jason arrive. They are assured that there is no mistake. Eileen has not yet told the boys of the impending sale, but she'll have to do so now. Dennis passes and asks about the sale, but Eileen rounds on him, saying, "What do you care?"

Back at the hospital, Emma is told that she can go home today, but she's not sure she wants to leave the security of the hospital. A nurse asks if they'e thought of a name, but they've only thought about girls' names.

Steve and Vik look over some cars which Karl shows them.

Eileen tells her boys that they may not have to move, for they like it where they are. She apologises for not telling them, but says that it's not Dennis' fault.

Steve and Vik look at a few cars, while a guilty looking Tyrone looks on in the background. (These are some of the cars he's been clocking for Karl.) Steve and Vik eventually agree on a price for one of the cars, believing they've got a bargain!

In the pub, Norris finds Les, and regales him with all the details of the birth... Bobbi wonders why Vik looks so pleased with himself and he tells her about the good deal he's managed to get with Karl. Bobbi tells him that nothing would please her better than waking up beside him every morning! The new Dad, Curly, arrives to a great welcome, and he insists on paying for drinks all round. Geena and Shelley are still at odds over the impending auction and the claws are out. Curly is going to pick up Emma and their baby at 3 o'clock. Ashley and Maxine wonder about a name for their imminent arrival. There is much talk of names for Curly and Emma's baby and the suggestion is made by Duggie that he should be called after the 'midwife', Norris. Curly doesn't like the name Norris, but warms to the idea of Norris' middle name, Benjamin...

In the office of Streetcars, Steve asks Tyrone about Karl, but Tyrone is a bit evasive in his reply. Todd and Jason arrive to ask Steve why he's selling their house. Steve tries to explain that his Mum needs the money, and offers to help them find other accommodation, but the boys don't want any help from 'scum' like him.

In the Rovers, Curly tells Charlie and Matt about his wonder and awe at the birth of his wee son. Matt tells him he doesn't know how lucky he is. In the corner, Maxine and Ashley discuss their imminent 'happy event', but Maxine leaves for home, her departure watched by Matt...

Todd and Jason arrive home, just as Eileen is leaving for the pub. Matt reaches Maxine just as she arrives at her door and pleads for five minutes to talk to her. They go inside and the door closes...

Curly arrives at the hospital to collect Emma and the baby. He tells Emma about Norris' middle name, Benjamin, but Emma prefers the name Ben, on which they both agree - Ben Watts it is!

Maxine and Matt have a heart-to-heart talk about her (their?) baby. Maxine is suffering strain, not knowing who the father is, while Matt is desperate to have his own child. After a bit of in-fighting, Matt asks Maxine what plans she has for the New Year and, just before leaving, he wishes her a Happy New Year and they share a kiss, just a bit too long and passionate for a kiss between just friends... Matt leaves and Maxine tearfully confronts her future.

Curly is speaking to Alice on the phone, telling her about little Ben. Emma is still tired and is resting on the sofa, while Curly lifts baby Ben out of his cot and talks to him. "This is your home, and I'm your Dad", he tells the little one.

Sunday 30 December

This will be my last update. Many thanks for all the kind thoughts from my readers since my (probably overdue) departure was announced. I shall still lurk in ratucs from time to time. And of course I will still be watching the Street. The last two years have seen some good bits - Emma and Curly, David, Sarah who has had some great stories, Duggie (whom I shall miss), Tyrone, Linda (when on song), Eileen (who will make a great landlady of the Rovers when her time comes), Norris and Anthony were a great but brief double act, Geena and Max for raising the crumpet score and there were some bad bits - but we do not need reminding of those. I know that we all have our favourites and those we would remove - but to be honest at the moment there are few I would rather were not there - Fiz maybe, Terry certainly and Les is well, Les, were he not there we would miss him. Finally special mentions for Hayley - her original story was one to move us all and Alma - now departed but not forgotten.

There is no one to take over on Sunday evening updates - volunteers welcomed. This evening events in Weatherfield are sponsored by Cadbury's, written by Peter Whalley and directed by Garth Tucker.

Events this evening are largely centred around the Rovers but we start with Les who is recovering from his last visit to that establishment who is spending his Sunday hungover. Toyah gives him a telling off - he says he will not drink today - but she expects him to fail to keep his promise.

Eve talks Fred into a drive round looking for empty properties. Ashley is going to the shop to catch up. Eve reminds Fred that she wants to be back for 2pm for the auction. Fred says he will not be bidding - he has already owned the pub once and it went nowhere. Eve reminds him that it was in partnership - and there was constant bickering, it would not be like that if he were sole owner. Ashley says that Max will be catching up on her sleep whilst they are all out.

Matt is consuming coffee at the cafe - he looks unhappy. Roy has been thinking about Emma's new baby and what he will see over his lifetime. Matt does not want to think about babies. Also in the cafe are Shelley and Peter discussing how much they are prepared to bid. £72,000 absolute maximum says Peter - Shelley says another 1k. Peter says not - it is an absolute maximum.

Over at Dev's flat a similar conversation is progressing. Duggie originally wanted £60,000 but it seems more is the order of the day. Dev gives it some thought and suggests £73,000 - top line. And if it is not enough they don't get it. But Dev does not like losing.

Steve and Vik are discussing Les. Steve stands up for him - his wife has left him. Vik does not think that is a good excuse - and it will not happen to him - he is not married. At that moment Bobbi arrives sporting the worst hairdo ever (I have obviously missed the storyline when she visited Audrey's and some madman cut her hair; it is a bit like Carol Vorderman's on a bad hair day after an electric shock like in a Tom and Jerry cartoon then messed around a bit) with carrier bags. No she is not moving in but it will save her popping round the corner when she needs some clean kn... socks. Steve notes this apparent domesticity.

At Curly's Vera is cuddling baby Benjamin before returning him to Emma. Vera volunteers to be a baby sitter and neither Curly nor Emma can imagine going out. Vera remarks that Jack went out the first night she had Terry - to the dogs. Curly reckons times have changed. Vera reckons that it is a different man. Emma looks tired.

In the Street Les is heading for bread with Steve pointing out to Vik that Bobbi is moving in. Vik reckons she only thinks she is moving in - he will put her right. Both note the state of Les who is unfit for work. They do not need him today. They know where to find him - in the pub. Dennis emerges from the shop and warns Les that the recent events must never be repeated and he pushes past Les.

Dennis passes Norris who is intending to visit Benjamin - named after Norris. Vera has already gone (see later) and Emma is asleep - but is soon woken by Norris. Norris wants to pursue his duties - he has a bond with the baby after helping to bring him into the world. Emma and Curly cannot disappoint him and Curly goes to make tea.

Matt knocks on the Peacock front door. Max opens it and is not pleased to see him stood there - but lets him in. He has been doing some thinking - he wants them to face facts and start telling the truth. If Ashley and Charlie find out and then they both leave then he and Max will be on their own and then they could get together and be a proper family. Needless to say Maxine does not like the suggestion.

At the Rovers Duggie asks Shelley and Dev if the boyfriends and their cheque books are coming. He is assured they are. The girls exchange words. Duggie notes that the competition is bound to push up his money. Peter arrives and offers some money now - if it is withdrawn from the auction. Duggie is happy to let it run.

Matt is telling Max they should be together. Max says she is married to Ashley and she wants to it stay that way. Matt says that he is with Charlie whilst she wants him. Ashley arrives and Matt comes up with an excuse to explain his presence - he will be in the Rovers later for the auction.

Les asks Toyah if Sam will be departing before Leanne arrives tomorrow. Les does not want them fighting over a bed. Les also wants to put a poster up to welcome Leanne. He departs to buy a card and Toyah tells him that the Rovers do not sell cards. Les says that is not relevant.

Curly and Emma are now being visited by Max and Ashley - although Norris has not departed. Emma is even more tired and Norris remarks that Vera had stayed for ages in the morning (see above). Ashley realises that Norris has long outstayed his welcome and eventually manages to drag him off to the Rovers for a drink. Norris intends to take an interest in the baby. Ben waves good bye to Uncle Norris.

Eve and Fred have landed in the Rovers - but there is nowhere suitable for him to buy. Fred knows they have to move. The auctioneer arrives.

Toyah finds Sam in the Rovers - he needs to move out. Then Les appears - he has been talking to Steve and Vik - and having a drink. Toyah calls him totally pathetic and departs. Vik overheard that Sam needs somewhere to live and they go to inspect Vik's flat. Dev arrives - Geena was worried but the bidding has not started. They discuss the £73,000 limit - which Shelley overhears. She dashes over to tell Peter - and he thinks it over and agrees that they can go to £74,000.

Roy arrives for the auction and joins Ashley and Norris. Ashley says he will have to sit still so he does not make a bid - Norris re-assures him that it is unlikely - but Ash says he would still have to buy it.

Over at Vik's flat Sam is strong-armed into making a commitment - Vik assures him that Bobbi is not living there, so Sam shakes hands especially when Vik knocks a fiver off the weekly rent - down to 40. Bobbi then arrives with another couple of plastic bags of clothes. Sam is introduced as the new lodger and she takes one look, decides she has made a mistake and departs still carrying the bags. Vik says "See you later" to which Bobbi responds "See you", but you get the feeling that she won't.

Vera and Eve are discussing the Rovers - Vera suggests that Eve should bid but this seems unlikely.

The auctioneer commences the auction - all bids must be serious and a 10% deposit will be needed. Les elicits a laugh by looking in his pocket. Bidding starts at £55,000 from an unknown bidder at the back. Dev offers £60,000, whilst £65,000 comes from the back and the auctioneer then asks for £70,000 at which point Norris with a very definitive wave places a bid (he had been telling Ashley where the bid was made). Norris tries to disclaim the bid - but it sticks amid general merriment.

At least until Dev bids £71,000. Peter suggests £72,000 and Dev responds with £73,000. Shelley looks at Peter and he gives it some thought before lifting the bid to £74,000. Much to Geena's delight and after some pressure from the auctioneer Dev offers £75,000. Shelley tries to get Peter to lift his offer - but they know they cannot go further. Dev looks quietly confident. The bidder at the back is not interested.

The auctioneer says the bid is with the man at the bar. Geena and Dev start getting excited. The auctioneer asks for £76,000. Is there anyone in the room who will offer this amount? We get wide angle shots from both sides. Once again £76,000. please? And Fred raises his hand and bids. And the auctioneer knocks the Rovers down to Fred for £76,000.. Eve gives him a huge hug and is very excited.

And the executive producer is still Jane MacNaught.

And I wish you all a final farewell.

Best wishes for 2002 to all readers. Bye

Monday 31 December

Rushing to get this done before going out for N Year celebrations!

Les has made a banner for the front door welcoming home Leanne.

Deidre asks Shelley if she is still working at the Rovers. She says she is.

Les calls out to Janice and Dennis that he is organising a big party for Leanne.

Fred thinks that Eve thinks that it was a mistake to buy the pub. She says it wasn't.

Sunita tells Gina that she is better off not having the pub. Dev says that Fred paid over the odds for it. However Dev then tells Vik he wished he had made another bid.

Fred and Duggie decide to discuss handover dates. Fred suggests the end of January. Eve wants to take over right away so she can start it afresh for the new year.

Les tells Rita that he thinks Leanne will sort out Janice. Leanne is unaware of what has happened.

When Gina arrives to work at the Rovers, Eve tells her that she has taken over.

Shelley asks Eve if there is any difference now that she is the owner. Eve comments that there are more staff behind the bar than in the pub. However when asked she said she has not thought about any staffing changes.

Janice tells Dennis that she is worried what Les will stell Leanne about her. She does not have any regrets about leaving him.

Matt accuses Maxine of avoiding him. She says she can't handle him keep coming up to her. He doesn't think she will be able to keep up the pretence.

Rita asks Betty what the new landlady is like. Is she like Annie Walker or Bet Lynch. Betty says Mrs Walker would soon have her measure.

Duggie announces and introduces the new owner.

She says there will be no immediate changes. There will be champagne at midnight though. Fred is a bit annoyed.

Les and Toyah are preparing a big spread for the party. Then the phone rings. Leanne is still working in Switzerland. She won't be coming over.

Bobbie tells Vik that she's annoyed about Sam moving in. She wants to know when they are going out tonight. Vik says he has to work because on of the cabbies has called in sick.

Eve tells Fred she wants to give everyone champagne, and in future not to complain in public.

Les is upset. Leanne has got promotion on the condition that she did works this evening.

Rita and Steve come along to Les's expecting a party. Les looses his temper and chucks everyone out.

Duggie tells Peter that he is pleased that he got more than expected from the auction. He is also pleased that the pub is in good hands. He then offers Shelley a job at the Rugby Club for an extra £50 per week.

Sunita comes to see Duggie. He remembers the good times. He says the best thing was her.

Janice comes round. Les shouts down the stairs, not knowing who it is. She hadn't heard that Leanne wasn't coming. She offers to sit doenw with a drink with Les.

Peter is annoyed at Shelley took up Duggie's offer as he doesn't like him.

Maxine tells Audrey that Matt is pestering her.

Les says to Janice he would like to go back to how it was. Her, Toyah and Leanne. He says she is ok that she has Dennis, and he has nothing. He pleads with her to come back. She confirms she and Dennis are going to Dennis. She wants a divorce.

Okay that's it for this year! Have a good one when it arrives with you all!!!! (We have just over 2 hours to go).

Cheers
