Bill pesters Rita to let him rent the Yard, Fred is appointed

and Mark alone on one condition.

Rita decides to buy a car from Heslop but Brian thinks
the sale is crooked. Fred decides to lay on hot lunches to impress
Ken, who is writing a good food guide on the local pubs.

Rita tells Heslop she is not buying the car, he threatens
her with legal action and Stan takes Hilda's cash card and withdraws
money from the bank.

Fred spends the night in hospital with food poisoning after
eating some of his pies and Ken writes a review about the awful
quality of food at the Rover's. Billy Walker returns to the Street
on his mother's orders, to save the pub.

Ivy wants to start living her life again and tells Brian
she's tired of him bullying her, Billy lays on free drinks to
win the regulars back and Kevin agrees to give Mavis driving lessons.

Bill installs himself in the Yard and puts up his own sign,
Rita agrees for Mavis to have a proper driving instructor and
Gail and Vera are annoyed with Brian for upsetting Ivy.

Billy decides to return to Jersey as Fred is coming back.
Ivy tells Arthur that she's not ready for a relationship and doesn't
want to see him again and Mavis is too ill to attend the concert.

Fred returns to the Rovers, minus his appendix and Kevin
agrees to give Emily an estimate for the chapel roof.
Tuesday (2399, Wednesday 28 March 1984)
Bet agrees to go to the dance with Fred, much to Betty's

Alf doesn't like the idea of Rita lending Bill money, fearing
that she is becoming too fond of him and Emily gives Bill the
chapel job on the condition that he produces two references.

The Barlows plan an outing to Tatton Park which has to

his friends go on a canal trip.

Curly and Elaine spend the night together in the boat when
it breaks down, Bill finds someone has stolen all the lead off
the chapel roof and Jack panics with the arrival of a TV detector

Bet discovers that Linda is back to stay and Vera asks Mike for

Hilda tells Mike that she saw Billy leaving Deirdre's house late

through her mock driving test.

Bill Webster's daughter arrives at The Street amongst speculation
that the Websters will buy Elsie Tanner's house. Curly is interviewed
by the Recorder as he reports having seen an unidentified flying
object.
Thursday (2421, Wednesday 13 June 1984)
Curly's picture appears in the Recorder but rather than receiving
recognition, he becomes the brunt of jokes at the Rover's. Bill
Webster is still unsure about buying Elsie's house.
Friday (2422, Monday 18 June 1984)
Dave Burgess propositions Linda, she refuses and a row ensues
at the Rovers. Jack Duckworth collects his car from Brian without
paying and Curly is interviewed by Radio Weatherfield.

Mike Baldwin gives the factory workers a good talking to when

to Emily.

The Websters move into Elsie Tanner's old house and it's the day
of the 'Coronation Street Olympics'

The Street prepares for the evening concert at the Rovers, after
the day's games against the Flying horse. Whilst all enjoy themselves,
George Hepworth goes to the Tilsey's home and attacks Gail.
Wednesday (2430, Monday 16 July 1984)
Gail is distressed following George's behaviour and refuses to
help organise the wedding. Meanwhile, in an attempt to get revenge
on Mike Baldwin, the girls at the factory 'go Japanese'

Percy is making the most of his hero story and Jack finally tells

Gail has a chance to run Jim's café but Brian is
not keen. Mavis is being wined and dined by Derek and Betty and
Fred are dismayed to see that Billy has returned.

The girls at The Rovers are worried about their position
now Billy is in charge. Hilda is beaten by Phyllis to a washing
up job at the café and Mavis goes to a birthday dinner
at Derek's and he proposes

Debbie gets her CSE results which aren't good and consequently
wants to leave school. Billy tells Fred he'll have to leave The
Rovers, but Fred wants compensation. Mavis can't decide whether
to marry Derek, especially when he gives her his mothers ring

Fred and Jack go to the races although Fred is supposed
to be looking for another job, so Billy is furious. Bill says
that Debbie can leave school, if she finds a job first. People
are finding out about Mavis' engagement, but Mavis is still not
sure that she's doing the right thing

Debbie is determined not to go back to school and to get
a job somehow and Derek and Mavis set off to buy the ring

Mavis is worried about the job situation and the approaching
wedding. Fred applies for the job in the shop and Terry Duckworth
rings the police to warn them of a peeping Tom and that night

It is the day before Mavis and Derek's wedding and the
bride to be gets merry at her hen party. Meanwhile, humiliated

Ken rows with Deidre over his attitude towards their holiday
and then clashes with Billy over Sally Waterman. It's Jack's first
day as one of the unemployed and Betty meets Sergeant Tony Cuncliffe
and agrees to take him in as a lodger

Bill gives Jack a job as a casual labourer paying him cash
in hand but Jack is worried that it will jeopardise his social
security and Sally tells Billy that their relationship is getting
too serious.

Billy buys a gold bracelet for Sally, Jack packs his possessions
up and pays Fred to store them in his van whilst the DHSS visit
and Bet flirts with Tony, when Betty refuses to bring him to The
Rovers

Ken and Deirdre return from holiday, Jack borrows money
from Vera to buy jewellery to sell and malicious gossip is spread
about Sally, following her split with Billy

he's interested in being his business partner. Deidre asks Billy
to stop spreading rumours and Bet asks Tony out

Jack starts to make money after a rocky start, Sally tells
Deidre that Ken kissed her and Gail tells Brian that George made
a pass at her
Thursday (2461, Wednesday 31 October 1984)
Sally tells Ken that she'll resign, but Ken convinces her
that the situation has been resolved and there is no need for
Sally to leave. George tells Brian that Gail enjoyed his kisses
and Brian unable to control his feelings,attacks him

Bet announces to the world that she is in love and invites
Tony to spend the night with her. Billy and Bernie pick up two

Tony pesters Rita for a date and after being told by Alf
and Betty that most of Bet and Tony's relationship is in Bet's
imagination, she finally agrees. Hilda is upset that Trevor is
too busy to visit Stan and Percy is delighted to have Elaine to
stay whilst she's on leave
Thursday (2466, Monday 19 November 1984)
Bet begs Rita not to go out with Tony again. Percy introduces
Elaine to Mike in the hope that romance may blossom. The police
call at The Rovers and accuse Billy of selling alcohol after hours.
The hospital phones Hilda with some bad news, Stan has died
Friday (2467, Wednesday 21 November 1984)
The neighbours rally around Hilda who is devastated. Rita
tells Tony that she can't see him again and Percy tells Elaine
that Bill is too common for her
Monday (2468, Monday 26 November 1984)
It is Stan's funeral and Billy lays on a meal to help Hilda.
Jack makes a statement to the police telling them he gaves Stan's
name and Tony tells Bet to leave him alone

Hilda is sick of moping about and returns to work. Sarah
Ridley summons Billy to the brewery and suggests that she buys
him out. It is agreed and they toast the end of the Walker empire

Ridley tells Betty and Bet that Gordon Lewis is taking over

turns up unexpectedly at Rita's and they decide to spend Christmas
together.

Tony and Rita spend Boxing Day together. Kevin Webster
makes plans to find digs in Weatherfield and a petition is raised
in support of Bet becoming landlady at The Rovers.
