George worked as a van driver at Mike Baldwin's factory. He played rugby, but more importantly, was Catholic and a widow - and hence became an attractive proposition to recently-widowed Ivy Tilsley. They became engaged, but this was broken off when Brian Tilsley disovered George was divorced, not widowed.
He went off with Pauline Wallace instead
