Lloyd was hired by Steve McDonald to drive at Streetcars and was given a month's trial. It all worked out quite well and some months later, when co-owner Dev Alahan wanted to sell up, Lloyd offered him a fair price and became Steve's partner in the business. He took the opportunity to move into the taxi flat after Steve's mother, Liz, moved out.

Lloyd wasted no time chatting up factory working Kelly Crabtree. He was still involved with another woman, however, and when Kelly found out, she spiked his beer with laxative. He admitted he had had an affair with a married woman and borrowed money from her to buy into Streetcars. The woman was blackmailing him into continuing their relationship. He ended up borrowing money from the bank to pay off the woman and Kelly agreed to take up with him again. They moved in together but things started going wrong when Kelly invited an old aquaintance of hers, Becky Granger, to move in temporarily.

Becky and Kelly had been in prison together. Kelly had pulled her life together but Becky was still living rough and in and out of trouble regularly. Becky schemed to break up Kelly and Lloyd and set Kelly up for a theft at the factory that she committed. Kelly had to spend overnight in prison after her arrest and while she was there,Becky came on to Lloyd. He did kiss her but then quickly rejected her. Kelly dumped Lloyd but soon made up with him and on Lloyd's advice, plead guilty because she couldn't prove that Becky had set her up. She was fined and released. Now everyone thought she was a thief even though Lloyd knew differently. He still went along with the pretence which hurt Kelly and she slept with Steve one night.

Meanwhile, Steve had hired Ronnie Clayton who was separated from a very dodgey bloke, Jimmy. Lloyd was anxious for Steve to get rid of her but Steve fell for her and they moved in together. Lloyd ended up having to help defend Steve against Jimmy's heavies to were determined to pay Steve back for stealing Jimmy's wife. Jimmy organized boycotts against Streetcars, sabotaged some of the cabs and hurled racist threats against Lloyd. The climax came when Lloyd had to rescue Steve and Ronnie from Jimmy who had been holding them at gunpoint.

Steve's fling with Kelly would have stayed a secret except Ronnie got involved in a hit and run while driving a Streetcars cab and pretended Steve was driving. He had to tell the truth, that he was with Kelly on the night of the accident. Everyone broke up with everyone else and Steve and Lloyd fell out for awhile as well, but managed to stay in business together to salvage the reputation of Streetcars.

In 2007, Lloyd briefly dated Jodi Morton but she had a difficult time separating her responsibility for all her siblings and didn't have time for Lloyd. Jodi's mother, Theresa was an old fling of Lloyd's and when she came into the picture, she convinced Lloyd that he was the father of her son Finlay, coercing money out of him. She was exposed as a liar. Lloyd was disappointed as he wanted to be a dad.

Lloyd then went on to a relationship with Liz McDonald who was a bit older than him. Steve was horrified when he found out but came around eventually. Lloyd and Liz's relationship was rocky and Lloyd had a quick fling with Theresa. Liz dumped him and went to Spain and Lloyd took up with Theresa who had promised to change. It didn't last long and Theresa eventually left Weatherfield when she realized that Lloyd didn't have any interest in her anymore and was attracted to a new woman.

Lloyd's next chance at love was Cheryl Gray who was an exotic dancer at a club that Streetcars serviced. She was much younger than Lloyd and had a young son, Russ. Her husband, Chris, was abusing her and Lloyd gave her refuge. He fell hard for her but she was vulnerable and wanted to be just friends. Chris was furious and jealous and he and Lloyd had more than one confrontation. Chris continued to try to get Cheryl back but she was developing feelings for Lloyd, a good man who also got along really well with her son. On the night of the tram crash, Lloyd and Chris had yet another fight in the Bistro but after the tram came through, Lloyd helped rescue Chris and also managed to get Russ, Claire, Freddie and Josh out of a burning number 13. Jason rescued Simon Barlow from the same house as well.Lloyd later bought number 13 and moved in with Cheryl and Russ. Chris was working for builder Owen Armstrong and was dating Maria Connor while still hoping there might be a chance for he and Cheryl. Chris developed some worriesome symptoms and discovered he had a brain tumour. He broke up with Maria. Cheryl persuaded Lloyd to let him move in with them for Russ's sake, helping him with hospital appointments and looking after him after his chemo treatments. Lloyd wasn't happy about it but went along with it. Soon however, Chris took full advantage of the situation and managed to win Cheryl back. Lloyd threw them out when he discovered the truth but nobody saw it coming, Chris's tumour was cured but he let everyone think he was still ill to keep Cheryl's sympathies. She dumped Chris when the truth came out and tried to get back together with Lloyd but he was not having it. She left town as did Chris, but not together.

Lloyd had some trouble with the tax man and while Steve was away, accepted help from Stella Price who assisted him in getting all his books in order. He was lonely and tried to kiss Stella who rejected him. When Stella's partner Karl found out, he threw Lloyd out. Lloyd had not been dealing with the Cheryl disaster well and decided he would just sell up and leave Weatherfield. He sold his shares to Steve's newest ex-wife, Becky, and left.

He returned to Weatherfield about 6 months later. He had lost money on a property deal in Jamaica and came back to start up a rival taxi firm, Fare Ladies which targeted women as it's clients and hiring women drivers. Steve allowed Tracy to work for Lloyd but to spy on him for Steve. Tracy did very well until Lloyd found out and tackled Steve on the school grounds on Sports Day. The old friends settled their differences and merged their two companies, back in business together again. Lloyd moved back into the flat, having sold Number 13 to Kevin Webster.

In the fall of 2012, Lloyd ran into an old friend, Mandy Kamara who had been married to Lloyd's best friend Johnny. Johnny had died the year before. What Lloyd didn't know was that Mandy and Johnny's daughter was actually Lloyd's daughter. When he met Jennna he put her birthday together with the dates of his fling with Mandy 29 years ago and realized the truth. Mandy had to admit it but Jenna was very upset especially with her mother who had lied to her all these years. She insisted that Mandy move out of her (Jenna's) house so Lloyd offered Mandy a roof over her head. Inevitably they resumed their relationship while Jenna, a physical therapist, slowly came to know her father. Jenna was a physical therapist and met Sophie Webster as a client after Sophie had an accident and had to relearn to walk. Sophie developed a crush on Jenna and it turned out that Jenna returned the attraction in spite of the age difference. Mandy had a difficult time accepting that Jenna was gay but Lloyd was perfectly fine with it and supportive. But due to a complaint by Sally, Jenna's new relationship with Sophie, one of her patients, got Jenna fired. Mandy was even more enraged and blamed Sophie for Jenna losing her job even though Sophie had offered to lie and say she chased Jenna but it was not returned. Jenna told the truth and sacrificed her career and Mandy had a difficult time accepting it. Eventually, Mandy and Lloyd realized that they really weren't suited any more and Mandy left town leaving Lloyd alone again, though with a growing relationship with his daughter.
