Ron Cooke Ron CookeRon was a draughtsman, who met Maggie
Clegg after her assistant in the corner shop, Norma
Ford, placed an advert in a lonely hearts column. They were
instantly attracted to each other, but Maggie had her doubts when
he admitted to having been an alcoholic. A year later, the pair
met again and having been dry for over a year, Maggie felt happier
about getting involved. Ron had the chance of a job in Zaire and
as they both felt they needed a fresh start, they married and
flew out to a new life in Africa.
