Bill Kenwright KBE

Played: Gordon Clegg (April 1968 - March 1969; and intermittently since then)Bill had no formal training as an actor, but it hasn't stopped him becoming probably the most successful actor in monetary terms to appear in Coronation Street. He bluffed his way into Granada, and landed a part in The Villains, and a succession of other roles which eventually led to him playing Gordon Clegg - but he only signed for one year.Like his character, he went south to London, but eventually found his fortune as a producer and impressario, and is now a multi-millionaire. The only role he will now act is Gordon - out of love for The Street and its cast.A lifelong Everton FC fan, Bill is sufficiently rich to stump up the money to partly finance the takeover of the club by Peter Johnson, and is now a director.

He was awarded a KBE in 2001.
