Outside acting, Kevin has two great interests - Manchester City FC and music. His uncle played with Shep's Banjo Boys, and four of his family were in brass bands. A talented guitarist, his first band was Paris Valentinos, which also contained Johnny Marr and Andy Rourke, later to star in The Smiths. After drama school he joined Irish band The Borderline, and then formed his own country group The Bunch of Thieves. Kevin's cousin is Cush, lead singer with The Men They Couldn't Hang, and he still occasionally plays with them. He has also joined The Saw Doctors on stage.
