Angela Griffin was born in Leeds on 19 July 1976 the only daughter of three children born to bus conductor Desmond Griffin and his wife Sheila. Her two brothers are called Stephen and Kenny. Angela's father left the family home when she was just four and moved to Brooklyn where he now works as a welder. The three children were then brought up by Sheila and her new husband Wallace. The family lived in Cottingley, South Leeds.

Angela was educated at Leeds Comprehensive School but also joined the Leeds Children's Theatre and the South Leeds Youth theatre. Angela was spotted by a talent scout who visited her school. Angela made her television debut as Gail in Yorkshire Television's Under The Bedclothes and then played Zoe Ashton in three series of Just Us. Angela also took a part time job at Leeds Burger King.

Angela left school at 16 with 9 GCSE's and went to college to study A-level Psychology. Soon Angela made a guest appearance in Emmerdale as Tina, a guest at the holiday village. She then auditioned for the role of Fiona Middleton in Coronation Street and made her screen debut on 5 March 1993. Soon the workload proved too much and she was forced to give up her studies.

Angela became one of the most popular stars of Coronation Street but announced in 1998 that she wanted to quit the role of hairdresser and single mum Fiona so she could concentrate on other parts. She rejoined her Coronation Street pals in 1998 when she was Scary Spice in a Stars In Their Eyes specail.

Angela had a long term relationship with electronic engineer Keith Lamport but later dated Hollyoaks actor Will Mellor. In 1995 she was awarded the Best Newcomer Award at the National Television Awards. She is single and lives in Leeds.
