After leaving school Susan trained at the Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama in Kent.
In a career that has spanned over thirty years, Susan has performed on stage in productions such as Road, Shirley Valentine, Downfall, Romeo and Juliet, Richard III, Easter, Butterfly Kiss and House of Bernada Alba.
On television she has had roles in The Duchess of Duke Street, Fanny By Gaslight, The Bill, Within These Walls, The Hanged Man, Murder Weekend, The Paradise Club and Andy Capp. In 1984 she joined Johnny Leeze, Jane Hazlegrove and Caroline O'Neil as the Clayton family in Coronation Street. Susan played Connie, the mother but the family were written out after a year.
After leaving the show she continued to work on stage but had great television success as Avril in Making Out, Helen in Road, Maria in Nona, Bill in Absolute Hell, Linda in Prime Suspect, Maggie in The Riff Raff Element, Cilla in September Song, Mrs Tribbly in Prince and Barbara in Stay Lucky. Other television appearances include Casualty, Lovejoy, EastEnders, A Touch of Frost, A Pinch of Snuff, The Ruth Rendall Mysteries and another role in The Bill.
Susan lives in London but has a house in France where she spends time with her partner Tony Whale.
