Whilst still at school Judy trained in violin, piano and singing. At the age of fourteen she made her professional debut at the Leeds Playhouse in Our Day Out.

She later appeared with James Bolam in the comedy drama The Beiderbeck Tapes and its sequel The Beiderbeck Connection in which she played Yvonne. She worked on a Living With Aids film and first made her first appearance in Coronation Street in 1989 as Anita, an optician's receptionist. Other television roles include Sharrell in How To Be Cool, Susie Thornton in All Creatures Great and Small, Aileen in Goodbye and I Hope We Meet Again, Rita Hebdon in The World of Eddie Weary, Jackie in Coasting, Paula Barker in Emmerdale, Bev in Children's Ward, Anne in A Time To Dance, Belinda in Harry, Julie Coleman in Medics and Rebecca Dawson in Peak Practice.

In 1992 she joined Coronation Street as Andy McDonald's girlfriend Paula Maxwell, a role she played for almost four years. Judy then played two roles in Wycliffe - Diana Byrne & Angela Sykes and then Julie Stanton in Heartbeat. She has also worked on several commercials and radio plays.

Judy has appeared on stage in productions of Charley's Aunt, Death of a Salesman, Alfie, Titus Andronicus, An Inspector Calls, Our Day Out, A Little Hotel On The Side, The Amazing Dancing Bear, The Crucible and The Plotters of Cabbage Patch Corner.
