Judith Barker was born in Oldham on 22 June 1943 and trained at the Oldham Coliseum. Since then she has worked extensively on television and stage.

On stage she has appeared in Mother Goose, Feed, Fur Coat No Knickers, Happy Families, Last Tango In Whitby, Romeo and Juliet, The Card, Love On The Dole, Salt of the Earth, An Inspector Calls and September in The Rain.

On television she has appeared in September Song, Crossroads, Strangers, All For Love, Dixon of Dock Green, Coasting, Pardon The Expression, Scully, GBH and How We Used To Live.

In 1969 she made her debut in Coronation Street as town hall clerk Janet Reid, who was to woo Len Fairclough and Alan Howard and marry Ken Barlow. Judith left the series when her character took an overdose in 1977. She then played Pauline Kent in the Granada TV medical soap The Practice before playing Eileen Salter in Brookside.

Judith has appeared in the film Distant Voices Still Lives as Miss Bruce as well as many radio plays. In 1993 she appeared in Dancing Queen and played Mrs Corrie in Harry before rejoining Brookside as Audrey Manners. Audrey was to woo Bing Crosbie before dying of the mystery Brookside bug in 1996. She played Mrs Robins in Between The Lines, Mrs Tate in Aint Misbehaving, Tessa in Medics, Mrs Dempsey in And The Beat Goes On and Miss Bunch in Daisies In December.

She is married to Nottingham Playhouse director, Kenneth Allen Taylor and they have two children; Jason and Jessica. The family live in Manchester and Nottingham.
