Thanks very much for taking the trouble to look at this page. Although they may not be the most glamorous part of the site, the profiles are very much at the heart of it, and literally thousands of people visit the site each week just to read them. There are currently around 3,000 profiles of actors and characters - out of an estimated 3,000 characters and 4,000 actors - so you can see there's an awfully long way to go, and any help you could give would be gratefully received !

Hopefully you will feel that you would like to have a go at writing a profile. You will be rewarded with a far deeper insight into Coronation Street and a nice warm glow inside as thousands of Corrie fans all over the world read your profiles !

Which profiles need writing ?
Well, many of the main characters have now been written - at least in outline form. If you take a look at the lists of main characters and main actors you will see that some don't have links - these are still outstanding. If you can't find a particular character or actor here, try the full actor and full character lists. If they aren't listed here they are still outstanding.

However, please check any favourite characters you wish to write about. Nearly all the profiles do need some updating, and many favourites (such as Valerie Barlow, Emily Bishop, Jack & Vera Duckworth, Reg Holdsworth, Stan & Hilda Ogden and Rita Sullivan) are just in outline form and still need a full profile writing.

Ideally, we would like you to write a profile for both character and actor at the same time - but obviously we understand that this may not be easy and we are grateful for any help anyone can give. Don't worry if you feel you can only write about just the character or the actor, or even if feel you can only write part of a profile.

What information should a profile give ?
There's no 'right' way of writing a profile. The aim is to provide a comprehensive history of a character or actor. You should aim to be clear, consice and accurate, but we are happy for people to develop their own writing styles. It is particularly important to note that the profiles should be factual - certainly note important events in an actors life, but ensure it's serious rather than scandalous.

Perhaps the best way to decide how to write a profile is to look at a few: Ken Barlow, Gail Platt, Deirdre Rachid and Raquel Watts all give an idea of the detail we are looking for. Peter Adamson, Johhny Briggs, Kenneth Cope, Peter Dudley and Brigit Forsyth give you some idea of the actor details we are looking for.

What information sources are available ?
There are scores of books available on Coronation Street, and these are the best information sources, but obviously most people won't have easy access to many of these.

However, there are plenty of resources available on the Internet. Within this site you can find a history of the Street since 1960 and detailed episode reviews since 1995. There are also episode reviews between 1976 and the early 1980's in the Classic Coronation Street reviews; later 1980's and early 1990's episode reviews in the WTN reviews and the Episode Guide also provides reviews of assorted episodes. The character and places profiles may also be a source of information.

The Official Coronation Street website also carries 'Biographies' and 'The Story So Far' fills in the yearly events missing from this website

The Coronation Street Magazine is also a very useful source of material.

Please note: Any information taken from copyrighted sources can't be used verbatim. It must be re-written before it can go on this website.

What about writing for the WWW?
Ideally the profiles are submitted as HTML files (the language the WWW uses), but we're more than happy if they are submitted as simple emails. However, if you can write in HTML, here's a few guidelines:

If you are conversant with HTML and it helps, we can send you HTML templates for actors and characters.
